Food was terrible looks as though it was prepared hours before serving I drained oil of my potatoes salmon was gross Pork chop was not smothered as requested waiter brought out a bowl of gravy and said I could smother myself appetizers were great. Kool-aid extra sweet restaurant is over priced.
(5/8/22) I celebrated mothers day with my wife and mom. They had a great time. Food was over all good, a little dry chicken though. The only negative was that it was on mothers day and an 1 hours 30 minute wait, which is to except on mothers day. Well be back next week.
I havent dined here, but I recently had the displeasure of picking up an Uber Eats order from here. The woman who helped me with my order seemed to be pleasant, until she realized I was trans... then her attitude quickly became nasty and wouldnt stare me in the eye. I think its safe to say I wont be returning here in the future to dine.
So far the worst experience with this restaurant. The first time we ordered online for about $25 menu and they charged $37. They delivered through Door dash, but when I called the restaurant kitchen manager why I have been charged extra $12, he didnt even gave any appropriate answer to me. He said he will talk to the door dash people and will get back to me, but he never. When I was purchasing through online there was no clue that for delivery I will be charged extra $12, I was only saw the option tip, nothing else. I feel like this is cheating to the customer. This restaurant is in my neighborhood just like 10 minutes of walking, so there is no reason that they charged me so much extra. I dont expect this from such a good restaurant like this. Felt very disappointed. Without any reason $12 just gone.
I love this place! But I had a bad experience a couple Friday’s ago this young lady named Cassandra she waited on my table was late with the muffins and she was very cocky and unpleasant I’m still upset about it I stopped another server passing by they told me they would let her know we were waiting for the muffins it was also brought to my attention she is also a manager but she has very poor customer service. She made me never want to come back here. How dare you let this woman represent your company? It’s absurd. I’ll for sure be calling corporate
I said I wasnt never coming back to this restaurant since 2016. However, I had to attend bday celebration. I know you all need help with short staff. The waitress I think her name was Alexia was working hard and polite to accommodate everyone. So, I stuck with the soul rolls and house potatoes. The house potatoes were cool. Soul rolls changed. My cousin had the wings, greens, Mac and my friend had zucchini and fried green tomatoes. The greend were better no cheese in the mac. They were hungry so they ate. Zanzibar was the bomb when it first opened not sure what happened over the years. I understand now it could be a shortage of cooks, and maybe you all have to take short cuts. Cook with ❤ Would you eat those items. However, I see you can get busy so customers come in to eat. God bless..I know its hard to find good employees who want to actually work and take pride in what they do.
First things first the hostess Taneisha hospitality was superb. A beautiful spirit. Her courtesy alone spoke volumes. Being a southern native that was a highlight. Especially since many establishments lack a welcoming feeling. I started with something small jerk wings and soul rolls. The food was good and fresh though I did not care for the sauce that came with the wings. I’m not sure if it was mayo based, but overall it was a great experience. I will be visiting again
So I will say that the customer service was good for the first time in years for me. The hostes that was there today @5 gets a great review. The food was tasty especially the yams, but what’s up with the crab cakes soaked in gravy or something. It is good but looks terrible
My experience was absolutely horrible! I just Flew in from Georgia and wanted to eat at this restaurant I’ve heard so much about. From my first entry into the restaurant the hostess/manager CASSANDRA was rude and unprofessional. She told us a 45 minute wait, which was no problem, we sat and watched as she sat larger parties before us, so we sat at bar, she never once asked us were we ok did we still want our table or anything! She had a very nasty disposition and for her to be working at the front representing the owners of this establishment is a horrible look! Customer service is number 1! Another gentlemen in the restaurant noticed who I was and came to greet me and converse a few seats down she proceeded to say that he needs to pick where he is going to be because she needed his seat and he was a paying customer who was still dining and had an entire drink in his hand which clearly is an indication he was not done! The entire atmosphere with her working the front is horrific multiple customers were upset with her customer service! DO BETTER!
Ive eaten here several times and the food is good. If you want tasty soul food, then go here. The in restaurant experience is good with friendly service.I recently ordered take away and had it delivered via door dash. The food was good, but I felt like it hit a little different.
We was having lunch there and it was only other two people on the restaurant. The lady at the bar took a while even to bring the menus, then disappear and we had to wait to take the order too. I wanted to change smth of my plate And she told me no (which makes no sense cause it was a side). Then after all that she added a tip!!!! Without even asking 18% and we were only 2 people, not a big party.
I’ve heard so much about this place from my family and figured I’d come visit from Atlanta the food and drinks were exquisite however there was a young lady there with dread locs with gold tips I had an amazing experience up until my encounter with her she is very nasty and rude she appeared to be high and had terrible customer service and I will not be returning because of her to have someone like that representing a black owned business is very out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t spend another dollar here.
HelloChef Rome and Tianna were exceptional. It has been Quite a while since I have been in the restaurant. The service I received today was above and beyond. I did not realize the dining room would be closed and that I would need to sit at the bar. I entered the restaurant just before a party of 6 to 8 people came in behind me. Tiana is beautiful, professional and kind. She gently and politely explained the situation and offered myself and them seating. Because of the family style feeling in the restaurant myself and two other people volunteer to move down so that the group could sit together. Tianna made me the best drink I have had in a very long time. She was smooth and efficient and handled every question or concern that came her way. Then I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Rome. He too was hospitable and answered questions I had about Entertainment in the restaurant. I am a vocalist and offered to do a set with Just a acoustic guitarist. He explained what the restaurant is currently doing as far as entertainment and offered to answer questions in the future if I had any additional questions. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as a lone diner. I felt completely safe and as if I were with family. My meal was awesome. Thank you for being a staple in the neighborhood. #excellence #zanzibar #food cleveland #restaurant
We were here to celebrate my son graduating from college and he was excited. The service we received from the host was awful, I mean just say you don’t have our table ready. Our waitress though was on point, and did a very good job. The food was FANTASTIC! My family, friends, and I were full and had to take carry out boxes😋
The soul rolls tasted like spinach and artichoke dip with black beans and corn. Where is the chicken and seasoning? 🤔 And the entrées were served on wilted lettuce. The macaroni was extremely dry. I asked one of the servers if there was a new cook and they told me it varies throughout the week. It probably shouldnt vary on a Friday night...I told the server than I hadnt been to the restaurant in 2 years and they told me that there is a new owner. I did tell them that it wasnt good, but they kinda shrugged it off. Shame on Zanzibar for serving this 😕
I ordered a Zanzibar drink and was disappointed she did not garnish my drink the right way with lemon 🍋 or a lime mint 🌿was down in the cup I had to ask for a glass $16 I want my drink made the right way sorry I will be calling asking whos the bartender before I even come there again everybody you hire as a bartender doesnt mean their good at making drinks
We placed a pick up order and drove 40 minutes to get food from the downtown location. None of our sides were in the bag. We paid $60 to end up with just chicken. Really disappointing.Update: after actually trying the chicken, it was extremely dry and not worth the money.
Very very sad to say, my review mirrors many others posted here. HORRIBLE — my daughter and I spent over $60 and couldn’t eat 2 spoonfuls!! Chicken was recooked, waffles were cold, jerk chicken salad had 4 cucumber slices and 4 tomato slices with a bit of salad greens and the chicken was inedible totally!!! Only thing we could eat was the grits that came with the chicken & waffles.
Visited Shaker Location for the 1st time on Saturday January 30th, 2022. Food was terrible.. Pork Chops and Chicken were dry, greens tasted soapy and gritty, The lemonade was waaaay to sweet.. My sister and I literally left everything we ordered on the table. The manager comes out and ask about our experience, then LIED and said she would discount our meals. Brought back receipts which indicated the previous balance. The taller dark-skinned young lady with long braids was a great server. The hostees (older lady) was very mean, rude and not accommodating. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE
Made reservations and still had to wait 15 mins to be seated. The server was amazing. She was very helpful and overall on point. The greens were horrible. I’m going to need to chef to create a whole new recipe. The macaroni was good and the yams had to be drained. There is a such thing as too much sugar. They could save on it actually if they didn’t use soo much in the kool aid. The soulful pasta was amazing as always, they just need to add more than 3 pieces of okra. The atmosphere was pleasant on this Sunday evening, but for sure they can reevaluate some of the recipes on the menu. And a tip... change hot sauce brands. Not sure what I had, but it was disgusting. Try Red Devils.
Friday evenings are busy but only had to wait to be seated 15 min. Make reservations especially if youre going at a busy time. Took a little to long for appetizers to come but when they did the food came right after. Everything was tasty and delicious. I feel like their portions can be a bit better, especially for the prices they want. Waiter was nice. It was cold so bring a sweater or something. Overall a good experience.
Nothing better than these soul rolls ❤My husband had the steak subs , he said they was ok . and my drink was bomb . Everytime may be different but i feel as a person who deals with customer service , just be more understanding and compassionate with people . I always have a great experience anywhere i go , maybe because my attitude and i dont expect much of people . But i show love and grace as my father shows me.
1. The hostess was very rude! I asked about Cajun fries and she was very abrupt and just rude!2. My catfish was not fried hard.3. $10 for two half cooked soul rolls.4. I went to another location that was a little whole in the wall joint. The service and the food was on point. Everything was delicious! One of the young ladies said this location was the best and she did not lie! Needless to say I will not be back to this particular location.
I ordered take out in the restaurant. Drove 35/40 mins. Brought my food back home to have a raw turkey chop. My entire order was $55. I called the restaurant and spoke with a manager by the name of Kelly who was very rude and unprofessional. She advise me in order to get a refund or credit I will need to drive 40 mins back just to turn in the turkey chop because they can’t take my word for it. All I asked for was a credit on my next order. Very unprofessional!!
Okay, lets start from the beginning. The outside had live music at lunch time & they were quite nice. Walked in with a very friendly greeting from all the staff that was near. The waitress/hostess had the patiences of a saint asking questions to provide the best option choices off the menu. Decided on the half chicken and the purple rain drink. My drink was flavorful and tasty, I wanted another. My food and sides was delightful, the seasoning in the chicken was glorious from first bite to the end, the rice cooked just right and the Mac n cheese just like back home when my mother made it from scratch. Will head there first when I return to Cleveland for work.
Me and my boyfriend drove from Warren Ohio to come eat here which we always do, yesterday was by far my worst experience since we have been coming there, first off it we got there at 530pm, we got our drinks and appetizers at a timely manner, and when it came to our meal we didn’t get it until 7pm and that was after the hostess at the front door went and asked our bartender why we haven’t received our meal, at that time Connie put our meal in, as we were sitting there waiting patiently the owner came in and sat next to me, which I didn’t know her from a can of paint, she was in there doing a secret shopper, which they probably needed because of the short staffed and the lack of friendliness that was in the air, but the food was great as always, but the service needs to be a little better, I only gave it a 1 star only because of the service and not the food,
Visited Zanzibar on Thursday evening our waitress Cassandras energy was way over the top very polite smiled the entire time while taking care of our table the food was amazing I had the pork chop dinner and it was great my husband tried the grilled turkey chops and was amazed the evening was so wonderful for our date night
I came here about 3wks ago. This is my first time here. The food was ok. I wish my pork chop was fried with flour not naked and a little more seasoning. I like the corn muffins with the greens and scalloped potato. Thank you Ms Sandra for the complimentary soul roll it was spinach cheese and beans
Ok, first, the bad. We called for a group of 6 to confirm there was space. Theres only a voicemail, not a person, which tells you to go on Yelp and make a reservation. So, then, we had to download an app first! How inconvenient. Also, they charged 20% for our group even though it was less than 8 people, plus a tip. Rather than argue, we paid it but we havent had that problem anywhere else. Now, the good. The prices are not cheap but not terribly expensive. My 3 item vegetarian meal of greens, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes is shown below. It was a little less than $12. I know it sounds weird but it tastes wonderful! My husbands bowl of shrimp and grits (shown below) was around $10. He gets this everywhere and said theirs is outstanding! Lastly, despite the bad, I am still giving 4 stars because they were attentive to our needs and the place made our group feel very welcome. Oh yeah, their delicious kool-aid or their lemonade comes in a huge jar...beware, its addictive!
As we waited to be seated, we sat at the bar. The bartender was so pleasant and she made a killer Long Island and Kentucky Mule. The food was delicious! Our server was terrific. My husband, son and I had a great time celebrating my husbands birthday. Thanks, Zanzibar!
I want to start of by saying usually when I go to this establishment its an amazing experience. This time however was the total opposite. My date and I arrived two and half hours prior to closing and from the moment we told the older African American hostess (With the accent) that we wanted to dine in it was an uncomfortable experience. she said its an hour wait and became noticeably frustrated that we were willing to wait. We sat down in the waiting area and waited nearly hour or so patiently then was abruptly handed menus and Told (Not asked) to find what we wanted to order as she walked away ( we havent even been sat at a table or told when we will be). Ordering ahead to maybe help with the wait is something I can understand but she didnt give any context as to why, This left us confused and feeling as if she was going to just place a to go order (which we did not want)... I just want to reiterate that my date and I arrived two and a half hours before closing time, there should not have been a reason we should have had to abruptly place our order with the hostess at her stand.Eventually we were sat down but we never appointeda waiter/waitress, just the same hostess dropping off food and rushing away, never to ask or check up on us to see if we liked the food or anything of the sort. My date and I felt as though we were a burden and an inconvenience. There was a major lack in Customer service and general courtesy from the tone of her voice to the phrasing of her questions. After feeling as though we were a nuisance we politely asked for our checks and to go bags, Where jokingly (Hopefully) she mentioned Yall waited an hour to take a few bites just to leave, before walking off again. After wards she gave us our checks, rushed us back to the hostess stand to pay and made us wait another 15 minutes for a to go order we placed at we when first sat down.Needless to say it will be a very long time before trying this place again and hopefully next time will be better which shouldnt be hard to do unfortunately.Based on this experience I will say the food is delicious but the customer service makes the trip to this establishment completely not worth it. I do not expect to be treated like royalty but I do expect to be provided professionalism and respect.
Wonderful services , great food , great atmosphere good coffee , prices are decent , the grits and sweet potatoes are expert level of tasting . I enjoyed the kind and warm servers , parking is a bit rough but its shaker square so expect to ride around a couple times but something usually pops up . Black owned , clean and professional. Support this Business 💯
When You Want a Unique Take on Southern Cuisines. For Family, Friend or just Significant Others. This is the place to go for a warm ambiance feel, modern decor setting, and a full open bar. With good food, great wine and a appreciative liquor list.Really could ask for more and would of gave a Five Star.If Zanzibars Customer Service would give more smiles and friendlier greetings.
I had the BEST experience at this restaurant. Taneisha was our waitress and she is FABULOUS!! the service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious. The options are interesting - unique combos but also familiar favorites. Please do yourself a favor and try this restaurant!
Me and my friend/co-worker had dinner after work at Zanzibar recently 110721. We drove over 30 minutes from West side, Elyria OH and it was well worth the drive. The food was delicious! Nice portions. So full could not eat it all. I want to give shout out to ***CONNIE****We had our meal at the bar and we could not have asked for a better bar tender/waitress. She was so nice, knowledgeable and attentive! Let me tell ya, she makes an excellent Pineapple Mojito, never had one better. I will definitely return. Hint, Hint, put location on West side.
At arrival we were placed at the bar. Ordered the fried green tomatoes and they were excellent! After about 15 minutes our food was served to us however it was cold:-( a complete turnoff for my husband. Although the food was sent back and warmed up it was just time to go. Our waitress was very nice though.
HAD A GREAT TIME!!! I admit I stopped going to Zanzibar because of the declining customer service & food quality. We decided to go celebrate my sister’s birthday. We had Justin as a server & he was FANTASTIC!! His special face mask read Happy birthday to my sister & the service only got better from there. The food was SO GOOD!! The chef came out at the end & we gave him well deserved compliments. It felt good to support a black owned business & have a positive review.
After a few bad delivery experiences I tried one last time. Ms. Kelly and Arie renewed my confidence with outstanding service and pleasant demeanor. The food was excellent and atmosphere was great. Will definitely return and highly recommend dining here. As for delivery.........
I think Ill make Zanzibar my favorite place! The server was phenomenal, the atmosphere was the best; good music, tastefully decorated, people talking, laughing, and singing, and the food was seasoned exceptionally well. The only reason I didnt give it a 5.0 is because the food was very salty, I could hardly eat it. Im hoping that was just a heavy hand on that day, I will try it again.
Literally the worst dining experience Ive ever had!!!! where do i begin...I mean the entire experience was horrible...from the moment we sat and waited what we were told 15 mins for a table...it was at least 25 min wait...sat and waited for a server for over 15 minutes while chatting with the gentlemen next to us whos order was taken WAY before ours and took just as long as ours! the server didnt bring our drinks for 25 mins and both us and the table next to us waited on food for well over an hour and fifteen mins.we didnt know exactly who our server was because no one introduced themselves properly...a gentlemen who wasnt serving us was our biggest help as we begged him to figure out what the hold up was... when the food finally came it was barely warm and the pork chop my friend ordered was Under cooked! everyone including the manager had an excuse.i just wanted a nice meal and drove 20 mins to go to this particular place.and currently late to the event we had planned because of the whole ordeal! I do not recommend spending the time to dine here!
Got takeout and this was the second time having food at this location. First, when we arrived to pick up our food we had to wait awhile for someone to acknowledge us and then give us our food. The customer service was terrible. Second, the food was very bland. We ordered 1/3 baked chicken with Mac and cheese and potatoes, jerk wings, bread pudding, greens and yams. Everything but the wings and mac was bland. Lastly, I get home (mind you we live 30 min away) and realize the bread pudding I ordered wasn’t with my order. It’s a no from me
Celebrating my husbands retirement, his birthday as well as my birthday. Although we live in Texas we had to come home to celebrate. (Both born and raised in Cleveland). We had a Fantabulous time!! Chef Rome took special care of us. He came out to greet us. Our waitress was awesome. She addressed us by our names. She was nice mannerable, polite, funny engaging and she took impeccable care of us. Tanisha thank you so much.💜💜💜 The food was superb!! Everyone (15 people) enjoyed their meals and large portions. It was a great time had by all.
My familys 1st experience with the restuarant. The service was outstanding. From being. Welcomed, to being seated, drink and food orders, and service after the meal began....our service was exceptiomal... courteous and friendly. We ordered lots different items from the menu.ans shared. Everything... entrees and sides was excellent. If I could give the 6 stars I would .
Once again.... this location disappoints. I should have learned from the last time but no my greedy behind..... well Im just greedy. So anywho I went to the other location on Wednesday. The Euclid location is the best hands down. There is absolutely no comparison between the two when it comes to service or the food. The esthetics at the Shaker is a vibe and thats it.I ordered Door Dash on Friday night and it was awful. Slimy catfish, burnt macaroni scraps and not so candied yams.Ton on fr13
Although the food is good, the wait and service dampened the experience. My party of 3 had to wait over 20 minutes for a table on a Wednesday evening. They seated us, only to wait another 10 minutes for someone to come over to take our order. From my view, I saw the waitstaff in the kitchen laughing and joking around. Our server seemed to be the only one responding to tables. At the end of our meal, she brought back my card and receipt and hovered over me until I signed and gave a tip. It made me feel uncomfortable, like I was forced to show her that I was leaving a tip. I have never not tipped, but her standing there was an intimidation tactic.
I tried Zanzibar for the very first time this month since returning to Cleveland last year. My husband used to go regularly and raved about their salmon croquets but we never ordered due to cost and the size of our family. However, it was our anniversary and we finally decided to indulge. We ordered carryout and I must say that the food was amazing with decent portion sizes but service with an unfriendly attitude.A couple days later, we returned for his birthday and the portions were lacking as were several items in our order. My husband waited for an hour alongside at least 20 other disgruntled people for the missing items and the order was still incomplete. The young lady retrieving all the orders was severely overwhelmed because she clearly needed assistance even though there were others lingering who could have offered help.We called and spoke to the manager, who was rather nonchalant about the situation. He did refund the money for the missing items but this was not about the money because we could have gone elsewhere for better service. Perhaps tighter management could resolve the service issues.A week later, we decided to give Zanzibar one more try and the carryout service was somewhat redeemed because the order was checked and bagged in front of me to make sure there was nothing missing....of course there were still items missing but not nearly as many as our last visit. Another week later we returned and the food was just ok...not nearly as good as the first time...and items were incorrect and others missing.I really wish it were more consistent than what we have experienced because on a good day, the food really deserves rave reviews. However, besides the subpar service, the attitudes, the lack of management, the expensive entrees and the nickel and diming for the sides, everyday should be an excellent day!!!
I live in Detroit. I started visiting my friend from Akron 2018 and he recommended this place. Stylish soul food indeed, and I love their soul rolls. Professional service and the food is on point.I try to visit him every year and I make an attempt to come here every time. Its so totally worth it, if they build one in Detroit I will totally support it!
Arrived at the restaurant and told our wait time would be alittle over an hour. We were fine with it since it was my Moms birthday and first time at Zanzibar. After waiting an hour the hostess/manager tells everyone that is waiting it would be a good idea if we all went to another restaurant because it would be another hour or so wait. Everyone waiting asked why did you wait so long to tell us. I wont be going back!
I went to Zanzibar on a Sunday afternoon to have lunch with my sisters. We weren’t greeted upon arrival. We were then told the dining room was closed & the bar was to full (when it wasn’t) to seat us. So we asked about sitting on the patio & was told we could order our food to go then take it outside because they don’t serve the patio. I tried to call my order in from the patio & was told I could only order online & come pick up. I have food allergies which is why I wanted to order on the phone. I gathered my sisters & left. I’ll take my money & my business elsewhere.
Ordered through grubhub, got the jerk wings, house potatoes and fried okra, and was unsatisfied to say the least. The potatoes and okra had no salt whatsoever and the chicken was soooooooo dry. Also they never called to let me know my food had arrived, I had to call the front desk to my office.
Yesterday, my daughter ordered Zansibar through DoorDash, a pretty big order I might add, when the dasher arrived she only had one dinner, why I’m giving them such a good review, she called the Manager, he listened to her and he was trying to figure out how to get the order to her! I know with the pandemic business are trying to thrive with limited staff! It’s hard out here! Thank you sir for trying!
I frequently use to go to this restaurant prior to the pandemic. However, returning to the restaurant was a grand disappointment. The service was horrible. Although, the server was polite and respectful. She blamed her mistakes on everyone else and continously made excuses without fixing them. I had to request silverware several times after my food arrived. The food was overcooked and some was cold. I never recieved my rolls after several request. And the bathroom wasnt appropriately tended to. I was very disappointed in my visit.
My friends and family celebrated Trina’ birthday. We had a beautiful amazing experience, our waiter Justin was superb, excellent customer service, well mannered. Along with remembering each of our names of a party of nine. We told our chef Rome our food was delicious and hot and appreciated everything truly. We will definitely be back, just because server Justin and Chef Rome.
Last night the food was surprisingly so good!!! I haven’t been to this restaurant in a couple years due to the food quality always being bad. I had catfish smothered chops Mac and house potatoes as main course and soul rolls for an appetizer. Everything was seasoned well and food was hot!!! Service was beyond good at the bar where we sat.
This was my first time ordering takeout, I usually eat inside. I ordered the soulful pasta and the side Caesar salad. The salad was good minus a few old pieces of dark lettuce. The soulful pasta was dry, it literally had no sauce on the food. It was like someone just cooked the food in grease. The shrimp wasn’t deveined and I found this out after eating a few pieces. I pulled out this piece of shrimp that had a huge black line running through. The customer service wasn’t up to standard. This used to be my favorite restaurant, but I will not be eating from this Shaker location again.
I feel like the definition of insanity. I go, have a bad experience, I wait hoping it will get better and it doesnt. Im even a little suspect of some of the good reviews. Waited 25 minutes for a simple drink. I really want to like this place. They wont let me. I frequent restaurants all over the city and the country and I try to go to soul food restaurants. Right food but wrong execution. Implement a mystery shop program or something and hold people accountable. The experience has been been subpar for years if Im keeping score.
Absolutely amazing food and experience!I ordered take out at this location (Soul Rolls and Soulful pasta). I was greeted warmly and everything smelled so good! The best part, I didn’t need wait there for my take out order. Text message notification from Zanzibar alerted me as soon as my food was hot and ready to go! My entire experience was a pleasing breeze.I have been to the Zanzibar Downtown (Prospect Ave) and the amazing quality of the service, the food, the experience is refreshingly consistent!I will definitely be ordering again to knock a few more items off of my “Must Try” list!!!
I went to this place on Sat and the food was terrible the chicken wing was to big and not season good and it had hair on it so that just let me know the chicken was not clean good. Macaroni cheese was plan no taste very bland tasting and so what ever cheese they use was not a good cheese. The greens nasty as hell.. I personally will never go to the Zanzibar again. they need to season their food alittle better.
Amazing experience. Place was about to close. My order was mistakenly taken because of 3 repeat orders. The owner and staff generously fired the grill back up and prepared my meal to perfection. All so nice and gracious. The food was perfect. Thats A+ customer service.
Not good anymore. It feels very ghetto. The table wasnt clean, there was 1 line for take out ordering, pickup and to be seated. The servers try their best but it is clearly under staffed. I ordered an appetizer but wasnt told they were out of it until the food was being put on the table. Food came out cold and dry, missing onions, missing everything. Then when food was replaced, they threw onions clearly meant for another dish on it and a spoonful of gravy. My mom was so disappointed that she didnt even ask to have her plate fixed because that meant ordering a whole other dish and waiting 15 more minutes. And that mason jar drink that you may not finish? Chalk that as a loss or drink it all up because they dont give you carry out cups and you have to pay $5 extra dollars to take the jar. Sad to say but will not be returning anymore.
I ordered my food online at 8:50 got a email saying my food would be ready at 9:10. I figured that was to fast so I didntarrive until 9:30. All to get there an my food still wasnt ready. Had to go in to talk to mgr (kelly) which she was rude as hell. Ending up not getting my food until 10:30. I order steak med well. They gave me well done, corn was old and dry, corn muffins horrible, rice wasnt done. The other dinners was ok.But to spend 96.12 cent it should have been great. I feel like I should get a gift card or something.
Most disgusting soul food I have ever eaten in my entire life. The cornbread was dry like it has been made a month ago. the catfish was bland and smelled like it was cooked in OOOOLLLLDDD grease. HOuse potatoes and candied yams swimming in OIL. DISGUSTING just wasted 70.00 all food in the trash, dont waste your money......
I ordered they chicken and waffles and they soul rolls Nd Mac and cheese. My waffles was hard, my chicken was cold the soul rolls had no chicken in them Nd the Mac was tasteless Nd crunchy 😑 I call to complain they answers the phone put me on hold then hangs up. And they workers was so rude when I asked about my order. I’ll never eat there or recommend nobody to eat there. Ruined my whole Valentine’s Day.
Stopped in Cleveland overnight from Chicago, it was a last minute option my wife chose to have a birthday dinner away from home. My family and I stopped by the restaurant at about 8:30pm and we were told they were not taking anymore customers because they ran out of food. How tf do you run out of food at a restaurant? It really made a bad impression on me without ever having one bite of their food. Would never consider this place again, unfortunately. Do better. Figure out a better way to handle that issue.
Finally found some good food in Cleveland. So many times these mediocre restaurants have let me down I was delightfully surprised to actually enjoy the food at zanzibar. I had the smothered turkey chops with man n cheese and the portions are so fat I have more for later. Thats the best part. The service was great and she was very good at her job i will be back
This was only my second time attending but first at this location. The initial host turned us around and stated there were no seats available but an older woman reminder her that we were able to sit at the bar. The waitress at the bar was awesome and made sure we had everything needed. Very cool, calm and relaxed... the atmosphere was one that I enjoyed a lot (clean, great music, smiling faces, and positive attitudes)... tried some new food and was not disappointed.
4 star review was earned due to fast and friendly service. I also appreciate that the location was clean and safe and had just reopened to in person dining. Unfortunately the meal was some of the worst soul food that my group had ever eaten. Plenty of detail and specifics but Id rather not be super critical. Sadly, I will not be back.
I recently visited zanzibar a couple of weeks ago. I had been wanting to go because I hadnt been since covid, so I was really looking forward to it. Me and my girls decided that we wanted to order some appetizers and drinks to start. We got our drinks right away but the food was taking a little longer than expected. One of my friends suggested we should just cancel the order, pay for our drinks and go somewhere else. I asked to speak to the manager (Siff) and he was very apologetic and understanding. He went to the back and put a rush order on our food and within 15 minutes our food was brought to the table. He also gave us another appetizer (on the house) for the inconvenience. He also checked on us throughout our time there. Needless to say even though it was a rocky start it ended with a great experience. I will be back!
Zanzibar is always great. In Cleveland, Ohio the Shaker location is my favorite. Sandra Nash was my hostess and Tanisha was my waitress. Tanisha was very bright, bubbly and helpful. Sandra helped us get seated and was very helpful with getting us served promptly after being seated. Food was delish as usual.
I used Uber eats to order $100 worth of food for my family and when I received the order I was missing 2 whole meals. I called my Uber driver to see if they forgot to give me food and she said she gave me all they had given her and that the staff were tipsy when she went in to receive my phone. I called the restaurant and she was right the staff had been drinking and hung up on me. I try to support a black business that I’ve grew up on knowing and they basically spit in my face. Never never again we I support this business never
Came 9/14/19 for date night and was really disappointed. The wait staff was polite and welcoming. However, the food was horrible. All of our sides were cold and they didn’t taste fresh. The macaroni and cheese tasted like it had sugar in it and they messed up on my boyfriends order. We barely ate our food. We kind of just picked at it asked for boxes and the check. The waitress could tell we weren’t satisfied and we told her we were underwhelmed our dinner. She asked if we wanted something else or to speak to the manager, but boyfriend just wanted to pay and leave. On our way to the car someone else who had just eaten dinner there asked us how we liked the food and we told her it was horrible and she said she thought it was just her meal that was bad. We all agreed we would never come back. The quality of food is really not worth how much they charge. The food tasted like Caucasian rendition of soul food. Management needs to address some issues in the kitchen. My boyfriend and I could of spent less money and gotten better at a soul food spot in the hood.
The food wasnt bad. The house potatoes were good, yams alright. I had the honey glazed chicken, it was a touch too sweet, tasted more honey than chicken. My cornbread had a yam baked into it. The service was what really did it. It was just chaotic. As someone who works in restaurants, there was a noticeable lack of communication between the front and back of house, and no management in the front at all. Waiters were wandering around like lost puppies, no direction what so ever. Our food came out one plate at a time because our waitress didnt know what table number we were, so the gentleman bringing food out proceeded to ask every table in the section before getting to us. Chaos. Cant say Ill willingly go back.
This is a great restaurant right in Shaker Square. The first time I came here I got the shrimp and grits which were some of the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. I got the wings also, which had an amazing dry rub. All of the sides are also delicious. The prices are great for what you get. Definitely worth stopping by.
So after a horrible experience at the downtown location last night, today we decided to try the Coventry location before we got back on the road. From placing the order over the phone , to walking in and pickup up our food the customer service was phenomenal. We went back in because we needed plastic silverware, and when we came back in the hostess called us by our name and was apologetic. It was good experience all around and of course the food was amazing as I remembered from years ago! I’ll definitely be back when we come in town. Thank you very much!!Cash & Charity order #3 ❤️🙏🏽
Probably the greatest soul food in the city. If you eat here I recommend the bbq grilled salmon or the turkey chops grilled then smothered in gravy & onions 😋. Good drinks, friendly staff. Take a date there then go see a film at the cinema across the street. Better-than-sex cake is delicious as well!
The food here is great, just like my grandmother use to create! The wait time was minimal compared to other soul food restaurants I’ve been to.My waitress explained everything about the menu prior to us ordering and was attentive to us as well. The food is hot, well prepared and nicely presented. Their menu overall is great! I wanted to order every single dish!I will definitely return when I come back through the land!
Fantastic Service, and I cant emphasize this enough. Our waitress was apologizing for the delay on receiving our meal... which didnt feel like it took that long to receive in the first place. Ive waited longer for worse! But she was fantastic. Also worth noting, we got our food freakishly fast. Normally this would be a bad sign, but the speed of delivery did not hurt the quality of the meal. The Soul Rolls are delicious, and I could have easily just ate 3 orders of those alone. The Chicken and Waffles was fantastic. The sides were very tasty. The only real problem we ran into was that they ran out of Butter for the Grits that came with the C+W standard. But... I can kind of see how that could happen to these folks, judging from the menu. I did have an option to have a different side though, but it was OK. The Grits were still good. Back to the topic of speed, though: Im sure a lot of the items on the menu are premade en masse, particularly the sides and the fried chicken, and served to you. But thats not a bad thing if the quality is high. And its all definitely high quality.Another positive: the cost vs. portion size. Id say that Zanzibar is a pretty good value for the dollar. Especially when compared to other restaurants in the immediate area.My biggest regret is not having enough time to stick around for desert. Im sure I would not have been disappointed.
My experience with this Zanzibar location exceeded expectation! I placed a takeout order and shortly after, I received a text when my order was ready. Upon arrival, not only was my order actually ready, it was fresh and I noticed the dining room had been renovated which enhances the overall dine in experience! Management taking initiative to make renovations during unprecedented times while other food businesses remain closed, shows how proactive management is and the level of appreciation they have for their patrons to elevate their experiences moving forward.
I wanted to order pick up. I called asked how many soul rolls come per order. The answer was two. I then asked if theres chicken wings were battered. The person who answered did not want to answer that question and told me to go online. Well I guess they wont get the sale of 100 jerk chicken wings and soul rolls. Because the staff didnt want to answer the question. Smh
Horrible! Mac and cheese nasty, greens bland. No seasoning on anything. I have never had soul food this bland. Very upset right now. With my grub hub. The chicken and porkchop has no seasoning. Terrible! This place is waaaaay too expensive for this poor seasoning. The cook cannot possibly be black.
I was here back in January and the facility was beautiful, inside and out. It was 3 of us and it was a Friday or Saturday night and it was packed. We waited for about ten minutes to be seated and our waiter was amazing. She told us about the menu and even recommended us certain drinks and meals. My only problem was the wait time for our food, it was a bit excessive. Other than that Zanzibar was amazing and I recommend you check it out!
If this was a review based off the food alone I would the Zanzibar 5 stars. The food is great. It has really good flavor and they serve it in huge portions. A+! However, they get an F for customer service. They’ll make you wait for extended periods of time before they even offer to bring you a drink. Employees have nasty attitudes & are unprofessional. & If you think you’re going to complain to a manager think again. You’ll get the exact same treatment from her. They waited until half my guests arrived to inform me that they were charging me a $100 deposit for my dinner party. Who does that? Not to mention you’ll have to park in Akron if the restaurant is full. Thank goodness for those soul rolls.
Food was hot and tasty. Decor is awesome although the cleanliness of the entire restaurant (Shaker Square location) could use more attention. My guest felt that the servers could have been more welcoming. I appreciated the server coming to our table while SHE was eating.
Omg love it going back in two weeks me and my husband love it great soul food there fried green tomatoes omg its to die for with a dipping sauce there fried chicken its delicious I had chicken and waffles and grits omg I was happy they have open bar I had 1800 good a splash of cranberry juice my husband had greens mac and cheese and African fried chicken he said it was good .
Went on a Sunday and they were really short staffed. The wait was forever!!! It was so bad that the bartender was seating people. The food was just OK. There wasnt any fusion. It was straight traditional soul food. My server was very impatient borderline rude. The ambiance is nice though. If I could give 1/2 stars Id rate them 2.5 stars.
Experience was terrible! Our server was the worse make sure you dont have a waitress by the name of Jessica. Very rude and absent minded. She kept forgetting about us and the restaurant had only a hand full of people in it at the time. She also charged us a $5 tip as we left none due to her terrible service but it came up in my account. I would file a fraud charge against her but it was only $5 but I recommend if you eat her to not be seated in her section! The food was sub par and lacked flavor. Ive eaten here before, pick up only and the food was good then. Its been some time so I decided to go with my husband. We will never dine here again unless the service is fixed! They shouldnt hire scam artists! Save your money and time and either order online or eat else where!!!
I ordered from Zanzibar on July 24, 2020 because my daughter told me your food was good. I ordered for pick-up. I received a text at 5:43 PM that my order was ready. My husband got there at 6:10 and it was not ready. It was finally ready at about 6:20 PM. I did not receive everything I ordered even though I was charged for it. The Turkey chops were dry and almost burned. Two items I ordered were not even there. I am so disappointed. I will order elsewhere in the future.
10/21/19 approx 10:30p I picked up my order. Nice atmosphere. Food is kinda pricey, food was cold , Mac and cheese taste not so cheesy, smoothered pork chop was dry even smoothered in gravy, lightly seasoned , , walleye cake looked like the chef the chef took a bite out of it , I order the ultimate feast , feast is not the word , more like 10 minutes later you are starving, not to bad but not worth 17.99 more like 13.99 . I would go back but it would be a last resort if everything was closed and I had no food, staff was very friendly
My family and I had a reservation for 15 people & the service Brittany gave us was extraordinary. She was patient & remembered what everyone ordered without giving us the wrong food. She was quick on her toes with our drinks and food. She was apart of our family while we ate. Oh now the food was delicious no complaints great portions and the prices were shockingly great. 5 stars from my family and I. Thank you Brittany :)
Usually the food and service is amazing. However I waited almost 2 hours for take out.....we got a text alert that our order was done at 8:26pm and didn’t receive our food until 9:45pm..... we originally ordered our food at 7:21pm...... over 2 hours for a simple take out order is absolutely unacceptable. The manager didn’t offer a discount or an apology. I’ll think twice next time I order from this establishment.
My family and I had a great dinner here. It was nice ,clean and upscale. The waitor did an excellent job. He took our order without writing it down and remembered it. He was attentive and was able to give recommendations while taking our order. The food was fantastic. We had to wait for our table but it was in a nice area and not for long. Great place to eat. I think it is a great atmosphere.

2021-10-08In Cleveland for the weekend this is a must visit for a great soul food experience! Unfortunately on our Sunday visit it was carry out orders only. The restaurant was spacious and when open for dining the ambience would be on point with the delicious food! Everything I ordered was tasty and the mini cornbread was all that. I highly recommend!

2022-04-07First I tried to order online and they shut down online ordering around 6:00pm. The Euclid location would not answer the phone. So I called the Shaker location. They wouldn’t take orders over the phone and said the only way to place a order was to come in. So we went in and place orders at the shaker location. They said the order would only take 15 to 20 minutes. It took well over a hour to get the food. No one ever came to check on us or apologize. I went to the back where take out was, there was my food. No told me my food was ready. Still had to wait on the rest of the orders. No compensation for time or apologies were given. Will waiting for the order the people in the back were laughing and joking around. Very unprofessional. I often patronize Zanzibar, but I don’t think I can any longer. It keeps going down. Then to add insult to injury the Mac and cheese was mainly noodle.

2022-06-20Real nice atmosphere. It was very crowded. We took a seat at the bar to cut our wait time. The food was good. To much salt for my taste. My son didnt like the Mexican corn. The sauce for the fried green tomatoes was really good. I dont do spicy, but it really was good.

2022-05-01Went there for the first time last night and just wow. Service was great and food was just amazing. My boyfriend has the fried pork chops with baked mac and cheese and I had the honey glazed chicken with collard greens. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be going back soon.

2022-03-07Ordered the 1/2 Baked Chicken with Cajun corn and house potatoes. What I received was a poorly disguised, store bought rotisserie chicken drowning in cream of chicken soup with parsley and tomatoes added to make it taste “fresh”. Sides were just ok. $23 wasted, could have gone to Boston Market for this quality of a meal. Very disappointed

2022-04-11My daughter took me to Zanzibar and we ate our scrumptious meal at the bar. Our bartender/server,Connie, was very attentive, down to earth, and her suggestions were on point. I had the catfish dinner, and my daughter ordered the honey fried chicken. The overall experience was very nice and we plan on returning as soon as possible. It was worth the drive from Lorain, Oh. Thank you Connie!!!!

2022-02-20I don’t even know where to start. If I could leave no star I would. After waiting over two hours due to no wait staff. Persons being seated out of order (same table size as us)and hostess stating they were called back to pick up “to go orders” but clearly being seated. Being out of food. Ice cold food being sent out and meat products not fully cooked. Our server had to keep being reminded to bring items asked for like drinks, menu, sides and being noticeably upset that we even asked. We were told that the food was ice cold because of just being put on steam table from fridge. Well why send it out? Dining room opened at 5pm. We walked in at 5:15pm. We stood at hostess stand until about 5:45pm just to give names for wait due to them taking food orders first. Very unorganized and most definitely not worth the wait. I was in town for an event and had been wanting to try this place. Unfortunately it was a very bad experience and want be back. We also had wanted to originally place a to go order in addition for later but server never came to place the order and after tasting the food figured we dodge that bullet.
