Upon move in day, The Deacon was unfinished. Trinitas Ventures is the company responsible. The parking garage was littered with glass, nails, garbage, and construction debris on every floor. The backdoor by University Ct had a missing glass panel - anyone could stick their hand through and unlatch the door. My studio wasn’t terribly unfinished, but I’ve seen horror stories on Google Reviews with residents posting pictures of doors covered in mud, sawdust spewed everywhere, sludge spilling onto the beds through the ceiling, and broken windows. The courtyard is an echo chamber. The building is simply too big with too many residents, the sound has nowhere to go but bounce off each wall, until it escapes from the 12th floor. After move-in, over 30 rooms were blasting music. It was so bad, I threatened to break my lease. In the first 2 months, I filed over 30 noise complaints to the staff and Cincinnati Police.I learned from my manager The Deacon housed 400 Freshmen. While leasing said it would be marketed towards students, I thought the high price point and chic building would entice upperclassmen, graduate, and medical students along with professionals. This was more like a dorm, complete with RA’s. I’m a 2nd year Masters student!A “no music policy” was enforced in the courtyard. But the fire alarms would be constantly going off in the winter past midnight, either by pranks or water pipes malfunctioning. I told a Cincinnati Firemen my complaints, and he responded, “You’re preaching to the choir. Ever since this place was built, we’ve been getting sensor malfunctions. They cut so many corners when they built this place.”The front door always broke, but the cheap repairs would only hold up for about 2 weeks. Instead of replacing it with a secure system, it was left unlocked late at night. Don’t live here? No worries, you sloppy street chumps! You can just stroll in like it ain’t no thing! Security? Management let them go in the Spring because they were “unnecessary.” Cameras are completely absent on multiple floors, aside from the one facing the parking garage. Even after I wrote multiple times to the general manager, they were never installed. Residents would also be leaving their doors unlocked, and letting people in without key cards. A plethora of break-ins resulted - people literally kicking down doors and stealing electronics. The stories on google reviews again, are horrifying. The front door was eventually replaced, but it took the work of tenants threatening Trinitas with a union meeting. Still, security cameras are missing and the fire alarms continued.A common response from management here is, “We’re doing our best and your safety is our top priority!” What angers me is that management can’t do anything because their hands are tied by Trinitas Ventures and their CEO, Loren King. Trinitas is responsible for the safety of their tenants, but they choose to do nothing. Top class, this Loren King! Top class! If “your safety is our top priority,” then why hasn’t this been fixed? Now for the positives. Of all my apartments, this studio was easily THE nicest. My previous studios placed everything in an open room. But here, mine has a wall separating the “bedroom” from the kitchen. They’re chic, hardwood floor apartment rooms. Though the paint scratches easily on the wall. My kitchen was on the small side, especially with a lack of counter space and no silverware drawer. But this is fixable with a kitchen cart on wheels. The lighting and TV are excellent, and the view from my balcony was nice. The best part is proximity to the campus. It made getting back and forth to CCM so quick, it only takes 5-7 minutes to walk. You can’t complain about the lack of amenities, like the gym with every piece of equipment you need, or the 2 practice rooms. As much as I want to rate The Deacon 4 stars, the terrible opening combined with Trinitas cutting corners on safety brings this review down to 3 stars. For anyone experiencing firealarms and poor security, I would directly email Trinitas at [email protected].
It’s very cold here, it’s cold in the building, in the hallways. My room is ALWAYS FREEZING. My roommate complains about the same thing. Even with our thermostat set high our rooms never get warm, just the common room. I’ve got a cold now because of this. Gonna have to get a heater and heavier blankets 😭Besides that my experience living here has been good with the staff and other residents.
Imagine being paying over $800 just for some strangers to come into your residency and rob multiple students of their electronics and games. With all the money that The Deacon seemingly loves to shower on its residents, its truly a shame that they arent willing to help those who expected a safe living space. Living in a nice place means nothing if the management behind it is trash. If I were a parent, I would think twice about paying that much money and letting my child stay here.
This place is a complete nightmare. For starters, 3 floors of this apartment building flooded this past weekend and my specific unit was affected pretty heavily by water damage. I have been living in a mess for the past week, waiting to be told about any work that will need to be done on the unit and I have heard absolutely nothing from the deacon staff. We were never directly contacted by anyone about the cause of the flood. They never asked about damages to our property. They never offered to move us to another unit while ours is being worked on. I havent even seen or talked to a member of this so called management team. Ive received more helpful information from the random cleaning team than I have from the people who I pay to live here. This is just one example of the many, many problems Ive had with this building in the two years Ive lived here. The management team here is practically non-existent and doesnt seem to care at all about their residents or their well-being. Word of advice: save your money and dont bother signing a lease here.
I would only suggest living here if you want to fear daily that your car will get broken into or stolen without any actions taken by the staff afterwards to prevent these things from happening. After walking in the parking garage and seeing over 10 cars broken into only to discover my car was one of them as well, I went to speak to someone at the front desk who basically told me to screw off it’s not their problem. It would be one thing if this happened once, but it literally happened to my roommates multiple times prior. This is just ridiculous. Not even to mention the lack of service there have in regards to maintenance and keeping the place safe.
DO NOT LIVE HERE. The staff is the worst run management I have ever had to deal with. Two managers 1-Morgan Klepper and 2-Andre the head manager (her kids live with her by the way) will cause you the worst headache ever. They do not care about any issue and will not try to help you out at all. Over New Years last year my clothes were stuck in the washer for 4 days. The deacon number goes inactivated once it’s past regular office hours and you call some head organization that is not even affiliated with the deacon. Andre went on to say that the washer was “user error” meanwhile no one would come and help me get my clothes out. I hope that this organization spins falls down the rabbit hole because no one knows how to operate a business here. One of the first phone calls I made they told me I was least of their priority because that had over 1000 residents. I don’t know how to make this more clear but if you can’t manage 1000 residents then you shouldn’t be leasing to that many people. They will be your worst nightmare and will not care about you at all. So do not live here if you want to deal with hundreds of issues on top of everything.
If I could give this place a 0 star review I would. Overall average but overpriced place to live. They have a faulty garage pass scan that doesnt work half the time and keeps you from getting in or out for a few minutes. They also did not transfer my utilities costs over to my sublet and when I called to have them help me fix this they said it was not their responsibility. They will work their hardest to get you and your friends to renew your lease and pester you about it, yet they wont care about you at all while you live there. Thanks to them I am out around $100 or more because of their utilities mistake. If you have the option dont live here and pay overpriced rent but deal with subpar customer service.
DO NOT LIVE HERE!! I can’t even name everything wrong with The Deacon. Their management is incredibly rude, the building is unfinished, there have been multiple break ins, fire alarms that go on for nearly 20 minutes, and many more things. You have to pay a cleaning fee of $250 and they don’t let you see your room before you move in and promise that it will be in “like-new” condition but when I got to my room there was stuff all over the walls, the floors and bathroom were not clean, and the door was broken. I tried to request a different room but they told me I had to pay ANOTHER $250 to clean it when they didn’t clean my other room in the first place. A large portion of the cost for The Deacon is because of the amenities and they aren’t even accessible right now. And they won’t deduct any off your rent because those are closed. I swear any positive reviews on here are either from paid people or people who work there that are obligated to leave a good review. Their response to negative reviews is an automated generic response telling you to contact them but there is no point because the management is terrible. They are insanely rude and not helpful at all. Please save your money! It is not worth the outrageously expensive cost!!
While marketed and priced as a luxury living space, the Deacon falls short in many areas.First, the quality of the building. Even though at the time of this review, the building was less than a year old, my unit and others my contacts have stayed in have encountered issues so soon into the first year. For example the roof has already flooded multiple rooms, and appliances and lights have needed repairs. One good thing was that maintenance services arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Many areas of the building remained under construction throughout the year including the study rooms and amenities, and many bedrooms were not even fully finished with missing ceiling fans and lighting. This did eventually get fixed, but it is unacceptable to have these conditions for such a long period of time in a unit that costs a premium. One of the biggest selling points of the Deacon are the amenities. However, most of the time, residents dont get the opportunity to fully utilize them because the majority of them are closed when the main office is closed. The fully furnished, modern living spaces are definitely a pro, however the bedroom chairs and desks are very flimsy and cheap and dont match the rest of the place. In addition, every bedroom is laid out differently, some having much more space than others and some having extremely awkward layouts where doors block other doors. The paid parking garage is a nice option, but its very expensive and the electronic entry gates were not operational sometimes which was a pain.As mentioned in other reviews, the fire alarms tend to get set off for no reason. Even in your own bedroom with nothing going on. Management claimed to be dealing with it, but it continued to happen even after.Theft became a problem for a short time, but that seemed to be resolved by implementing the locked doors at the entrance with keycard access and residents actually keeping their rooms locked. That shouldnt be much of an issue anymore. One of the worst parts of the Deacon is the utility system. They use a third party service to pay your bills for you. This service charges a service fee for every transaction and you have no ability to pay the bill through any other means. They also charge you an estimated bill at the end of your lease so that they can close your account when you move out instead of when the bill comes in. This bill was insanely high compared to my usual usage and its highly unethical to charge me for something I maybe would use in the future, in addition to double charging for the service fees.Overall, for how much of a premium you have to pay to live at the Deacon, youre better off going to the Verge or USquare or Clifton Heights.
Not a great experience. There are a lot of issues with the building; fire alarms go off all the time, appliances barely work, the rooms are unfinished, etc. The management has done some questionable things too. They scheduled a room check and said they would arrive anywhere between 9:00am -5:00pm but they came into our unit and bedrooms before 9:00am while we were sleeping and undressed, which was highly inappropriate. They also locked my roommates bedroom doors without consent and caused her to be late to work. I would recommend looking into other housing options as this one is way over priced for the quality.
I currently live at the deacon, and my roommates and I all agree: we dont understand why people give so much hate towards the deacon. Its not bad at all, it is way nicer than any other accommodation you are going to get. It is pricey, but for what you get its quite nice. Fire alarms were a bit of an issue the first semester, but they seem to have fixed them. Maintenance is pretty good and responsive. Noise on the weekends is common, but not surprising, its student living.
I currently reside in the Deacon. Upon moving in my washer and dryer was broken. I was without a washer and dryer for a week because it was “not an urgent issue”. I also had pool chairs that were stacked up along my window blocking my view that I was promised would be removed immediately and was not removed until October after I had to complain over and over. There was also an incident where myroommates door was locked and could not open so the maintenance had to break the door to get in then they tried to make her pay for it. We told them that would not be happening because it was not us who broke the door. I also paid $360 to park at the Deacon. This garage is not secure at all!! People park here without passes because the arm is always broken and they have not fixed it which leaves the people who paid without spots. I am also always worried about theft in the garage because it has happened multiple times. I wish I could receive a REFUND on my pass because I feel as if I have paid for nothing if everyone just parks here and if my car was to get broken into I would not be able to see who it was because the cameras in the garage do not work. Overall this place is okay and there are some good things about it but not enough to outweigh the bad. I personally do not think it is worth all of the money that you are paying. I would expect better quality.
Living here has not been a great experience. The rooms look nothing like the model rooms they show on the website & in person tour. There is random pieces of conduit and nails/screws sticking out of the walls, the ceilings are unfinished, and they did not repaint/repair the walls from the previous tenant in my unit despite the redecorating fee they charge you upon move in. The fire alarms go off almost every day, even sometimes at 3am. Afterhours security is basically useless, Ive called multiple times and not been able to get a hold of someone. Overall not a great place to live and I have not and will not be renewing my lease.
The Deacon seemed very rushed and incomplete at move in though maintenance has fixed most of the problems we’ve encountered. The clubhouse is really nice and the amenities (when working) are great. Our apartment is very large with tons of windows. The free food is also a bonus.CONS:The building itself is very nice, but the “industrial” look in every space seems cheap. The fire alarms have been a problem since August. The alarm in my bedroom had to be replaced 4 times because it kept going off randomly and on my third replacement the maintenance guy told me to put away my candle next time. The study room on the 10th floor is incredibly loud for some reason. The Ethernet ports weren’t wired properly upon move in. The cable TV works about 50% of the time. The parking garage gate takes forever to read the parking tags. None of the windows in the apartment can be opened. With rent, the parking fee, and an electric bill (with unnecessary service fees), I’m paying nearly 1k a month and it is not worth it. I hear prices are actually going up next year (how?).
After living at the Deacon for nearly one year now, I honestly have no complaints! Despite the setbacks of COVID-19 the Deacon has managed to create COVID safe events for residents to actively take part of! Plus, what’s not to love about the amenities they provide? I go to the gym all the time and it’s so nice to have! On top of that, management is always on top of issues I have (if any) and the entire staff is warm hearted and welcoming. I’ve never had any safety issues and find comfort in my apartment. I’ve signed my lease for the upcoming year and look forward to another school year leasing through the Deacon!
First of all. Take a look at all the 5 star reviews. They’re all from before this scam of a building opened. Earlier this week my washer broke. After calling maintenance out they told me that it would take around 2 weeks for us to get a new one. I went to the front desk to try and figure out how me and my 3 roommates will wash our clothes. They did not have any solutions. For $1,100 a month this place is a joke. Just about everything in our apartment has not worked properly. Management here is a flat out joke. My roommates mother was called and told that she did not pay the bill and told her that they would be evicting her son this week. Upon further investigation it turned out that the deacon had actually sent back the payment to her bank. After all of this the manager did not even apologize instead she decided to slap on a $30 late fee. The workers at the front desk do a tremendous job in helping the residents but besides them everyone else is just terrible. For $1,100 a month you should be able to wash your clothes. We will not be returning next year and I strongly advise others to do the same. There are much nicer and cheaper options than the deacon. I had very high hopes upon coming here that it would be a tremendous experience and it has been nothing close to that. I would recommend to the owners of this building to strongly consider changing management at this facility. They are not friendly and are not helpful at all. The security is also just downright laughable. During the first semester there were 3-4 “security guards” that would put there feet up on the desk and play on their phones all night. Some nights their kids would also be with them and allowed to wonder the building. This building is very unsafe it has over 15 points of entries and doors are left cracked open more than they’re closed. I have heard numerous stories about cars being broken into and the deacon didn’t do a thing for them. They even made the residents call the police.**i also would like to add that the fire alarms go off every single day for hours upon hours. Most weekends they go off the entire night. The owner replied to a review saying it was cause by vaping but everybody knows thag is a flat out lie**
As someone who has lived in terrible Clifton houses all of college, when I found out the Deacon was being built, the outrageous pricing did not hold me back from finally wanting to live in a nice place with amenities. While my personal apartment has not had any issues while living here, the overall facility is terribly run. The front desk staff is very nice but it is the property management department that I think many residents have an issue with. The fire alarms in this building are out of control. They will randomly go off for over 20 minutes at a time, mostly at night which is annoying and honestly unsafe at this point. I never leave my apartment when they go off because I just assume that its just because the issue has not been resolved yet. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me. At this point, if there was an actual fire, a lot of people would get hurt. Many people have complained about this issue and 5 months into our lease, the issue still isnt fixed. The security guards are useless. During winter break, the front doors were not unlocking at night with the key fob. So, many times I would tap on the window to get the guards attention, show them my key fob proving that I am a resident and they would just look at me and tell me to go to the side door. It is winter and dark out, I should be able to use to the front door of my building and not resort to using the side door.In November, my car was broken into in their secure parking garage that I pay 80 dollars a month to park in. Managements only response was to file a report with the police. They did not offer any incentives or anything for the inconvenience and took weeks to get back to me, when in my opinion this was an urgent issue. They told me that they would look at the cameras, but never got back to me, even when I sent a couple follow ups via e-mail.Like mentioned before, I do love my personal apartment and would pick living here over the other Clifton houses I have lived in in the past. However, do not expect much from management. I do not think they were prepared to take on this responsibility.
DO NOT MOVE TO THE DEACON! This apartment is very misleading. If I could put zero stars I would! 1. before I moved in I had to pay first months rent in which when I came to pick up my keys at the end of August (the deacon was not ready in which they bribed us with gifts for the inconvenience) they gave me keys to a room that was not mine. when I asked why no one could tell me until I spoke with the head of the deacon, and he stated my room was not finished yet! I did not get the keys to my actual apartment until the last day of the month in which the apartment I was staying in was cheaper than my actual apartment and I did not get reimbursed. 2. when I moved into my actual apartment it was still incomplete, missing a washer, dish washer, and ceiling. 3. the rooms are extremely small and nothing like the photos. 4. my mentees who stay at the deacon also did not have hot water for a week 5. my close friend who also lives at the deacon had mold in her kitchen and missing smoke detectors for at least a week. 6. you have to pay an electric bill that is split between the rooms, when you pay the bill the first time there is a $15 starter fee, and after that you have to pay the bill plus $5 extra for a processing fee. there is not a way around this! 7. My bill alone has been anywhere from $40-$60 and only one of the vents in my apartment work! I am just now being told that there is something wrong with my thermostat, 4 months later. 8. they advertised that parking is included but it is not! parking is an extra $80 a month. 9. the staff never know what is going on. 10. if you are someone who orders a lot of things online, you are not able to get your things as soon as it is delivered, you must wait until the deacon staff process your items and then show an id that you are you to pick up your items.. 11. I have been having serious roommate issues, being threatened, and harassed and the leasing manager not doing anything, but telling me to move out of the apartment I moved into first and pay an extra transfer fee! 12. the fire alarms are ALWAYS going off at all times of the day and are extremely loud. they are inside the apartment and in the halls, t has been said that they know that they are not functioning properly and yet nothing has been done. 13. there have been several leaks within the building causing the floors to flood. 14. the security officers are useless, and super unprofessional being loud on the phones, sleeping on the job, having friends over with them. 15. local people come in the building everyday and sit in the computer room harassing residence as if they live here. I can go on and on about how awful this place is, just save yourself the trouble because the deacon isnt worth it! I most definitely will NOT be renewing any lease here.At this point I think that we should all come together with all of these unresolved problems and create a lawsuit against the Deacon!
I will give it a 3 stars. It is not like, the level of horrible . But some staffs are rude and unhelpful. Be careful some balconies are facing a wall lol...... It is pretty clear that they do not care about your living experience there but your rent :-) They spent crazy amount of money and effort on marketing but forgot the students living there ... I dont think this place is super horrible. But you can find a better place with the same amount of money.
I would not live here again. It has been such a frustrating experience. My car has been keyed in the supposedly “secure” garage and the cameras just happened to be conveniently disconnected so nothing was done. The fire alarms are a HUGE issue. The management admitted to me in person that there was a problem with them and they were not installed correctly. One night they went off for 11 hours and nobody came to do anything. Now, the whole Building is having problems with the alarms in the middle of the night and the fire department has to come and evacuate the whole place. The biggest issue seems to be that they let UC stick freshmen in some of the apartments and they have been rude and disrespectful to the property. The whole place smells like weed 100% of the time and the noise level is unacceptable. Two weeks ago our ceiling was leaking water from the apartment above us from their dishwasher. The amenities are nice but it’s way overpriced and it’s only getting way more expensive next year. Save your time and money and live somewhere else.
I have lived at the Deacon for more than 6 months now and I have absolutely loved it. Everyone working at the front desk is always very pleasant and helpful. Although there can be issues with the fire alarms, I know it is not the staffs fault but the residents and those walking by who pull them when there is not an emergency. Also, I am very impressed with the efficiency of the maintenance staff. Anytime there is an issue (which is rare) it is fixed within 48 hours. The amenities & events are honestly what caught my attention about the Deacon. The events always have food or giveaways and there are so many amenities, that if there was a grocery store, I’d never have to leave [pool, 3 fitness areas, grills, tanning beds, hammock area, arcade, movie theatre, business area, etc]. I resigned my lease the second came out bc I want to spend the rest of my time at UC living at the Deacon.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. You pay a lot to live here in order to use the amenities however they were rarely open. There was no communication between management and resident. Also were charged a $250 redecoration fee upon moving in and somehow was charged $350 once I moved out because we had scuffs on our walls that would have been fixed by one coat of paint. Also the countless break ins made you feel very safe and the fire alarms that went off at 3 am helped you get a great nights rest. I would rather live in Daniels Hall all four years then live in this place again. Only advice to people looking to live here is dont there are way better options on campus.
Do not rent from Deacon for your student if you are looking for UC housing. Original apartment was not even close to being finished on move in day. Moved to another apartment and was promised everything would be up to what they promised within a month. It is now March and there are many work orders still open and have never had cable that was supposed to be included in the rent. They do not have good security and anyone can walk into the building. The garage is not clearly marked and they will put a sticker on your car if they believe you have parked in an I marked handicap spot. The sticker has now caused damage to the car because it will not come off after multiple attempts to get it off with cleaning supplies and car washes. Management does not care and you do not get what you pay for. They are over priced!! If I could give a 0 star I would!! The only reason I am doing this review is because they are non responsive. So warning don’t waste your money!
Ive lived here for a little bit and have no complaints! I have had good experiences, when I have had to submit a work orders they get fixed quickly. Management is quick to respond compared to other places I have lived. I was informed about the alleged break-ins by management but have not felt any safety concerns living here. I have not felt uncomfortable or unsafe in my apartment at all. I would definitely recommend people move here!
The Deacon is an exquisite place to live. It lets you enjoy college life beyond imagination with all the amenities and rather luxurious facilities. Right from the swimming pool, the gym, the theatre, the pet spa to every single apartment, it is a perfect fit for living in style.
The deacons security and “courtesy officers” are absolutely terrible. There’s no record of your complaints. If something happened to your apartment or car, the deacon “can’t access” their cameras that they have set throughout the entire apartment complex. If you ever choose to live here, don’t. The deacon in its entirety is so terrible. This place was built in less than a year and you CAN TELL!Fire alarms going off all the time, security not doing anything for its residents, and the walls are so thin you can hear the residents conversations above so clear. The apartments are poorly made even though it’s “brand new”. Don’t live here, you’ll regret it.
Seriously, what a train wreck. Fire alarms are constantly going off, sometimes in the middle of the night, and the staff has taken very little accountability for this, instead blaming this (and often, these are alarms going off throughout the building, not just in units) on residents. Fire alarms are also almost constantly going off in the garage. The front door has been broken on and off for months now so that sometimes residents can’t use the front door to get into their home and instead have to go in through the garage. A lot of the construction outside of the clubhouse (what they mainly love to show off in their photos and promotions) is sloppy since they threw the building up ridiculously fast (during move in, construction was still going on). During the holiday season when the front desk was closed, packages (which are supposed to be checked so that residents can pick them up from the front desk) were left out in the mail room so that anytime could steal one if they wanted to. So add MAIL FRAUD to the never ending list of ways the Deacon has been screwing its residents over while pampering prospective signers. They also took no accountability for this mistake, choosing instead to blame mail carriers for leaving packages, which is definitely true in part. However, the best solution would have been to leave a note for mail carriers so that they wouldn’t drop packages when the front desk was closed. This happened on at least 2 occasions so they had time to come up with a solution had they wanted to. Water unexpectedly shut off today with no warning—so no water in any of the units, including showers and toilets...meanwhile, one staff member is on the phone about a lease, and the other is trying to close with two prospective residents and the only maintenance worker I saw was putting up signs. Emails went out to every resident last week saying “you have a vacancy in your apartment and we are going to come inspect the unit” and then were immediately followed with a “disregard the previous email” message. These people do not have it together at all. Clueless staff, horrible management, and no accountability or compensation for mistakes. You would be better off living anywhere else. If I could give zero stars I would.
The Deacon is overall, very nice. I feel like they put more effort into the spaces that were public instead of the apartments themselves. When we first got here, we had freezing water for 3 days till maintenance got a chance to fix it and our oven and stove did not work. Our dishwasher hasn’t been working for a week now and no one has come by to fix it yet. We have had freezing cold water again since yesterday and maintenance said they would be here today to fix it but they never showed up so we have to take freezing cold showers again.. I am very frustrated because everything is apparently brand new but they should not be breaking down the moment you use them. We pay a lot of money to stay here and for all of these things to go wrong and take a long time to get fixed, it’s frustrating. I also feel like it is very disorganized and there is a big lack of communication. They had two separate numbers for the emergency maintenance listed, one on a sheet given when we moved in and a different one on the resident portal.. I really hope you guys step it up.Update (9/17/19):The dishwasher started leaking and the oven/stove doesn’t work again. The appliances are not very good.
To say the deacon is the worst experience of my entire life would be a understatement. Last night my apartment was broken into twice. (Our front door was installed poorly so they were able to move the lock)The robbers knew I was there and left but came back 15 mins later. I called 911 and the security at deacon. The cops eventually came but deacon security was nowhere to be found the entire night. I had to wait in my bathroom while the the robbers came in my room and broke my belongings. The security here is just terrible one of the least safe places I have ever been in. Robberies seem to be common here due to the lack of security and cameras that do not work. I am lucky to be unharmed and alive. My family pays a fortune for the deacon thinking it’s security would be there to protect me. Unfortunately not the case. No human should have to go through what I went through living here please for you own safety and well-being DO NOT LIVE HERE.
This place is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. They are extremely unprofessional, unorganized and inconsiderate of their residents. They will leave the hallways and courtyards dirty for days, they will give you attitude when you come to the front desk, and they will not answer you if you send an email. This apartment seemed like it was also thrown together in 4 minutes. The ceiling are completely unfinished, you can hear every noise through your walls ( they like to keep the courtyard music on full blast even after hours), and there were multiple things in my apartment that were broke. Additionally, they are insolent to their residents. My sister and I both have apartments here and she signed a lease to renew her apartment for the following year. She received an email that even said that she had it renewed then as of this week (less than a month before we have to move) they say “oh yeah you didn’t finish it because we didn’t send you the copy to confirm you we’re renewing”. They never communicated with her that was the case or anything. It is completely unorganized and as a business, when she said she wanted to renew they should have reached out to her and made sure she was comfortable and knew what she needed to do since they knew her intent.Additionally, they overcharge on everything. They use a secondary electricity app which charges you more money for your monthly electricity bill. They require so many fees and you do not get money back for a security deposit. On top of this during quarantine, when all the amenities were closed they did not give us a deduction on any of our rent. We had to pay full price for the month even though we could not use half of the things we were promised when signing. There are so many hidden fees that they do not disclose at the beginning of the lease. This complex has horrible cell phone reception as well. Your calls will be dropped when you walk in the building. I had phone calls for job interviews and I would have to go outside in order to receive them. It is very inconvenient and annoying. They will claim to have WiFi calling as well but it does not work. Half the time the wifi is out in the apartments anyway.Sequentially, the fire alarms go off all the time. I hear at least one a day if not more go off for sometimes multiple hours on end. Once again, you can hear everything through your walls so don’t worry you can hear those too!Lastly, there has been multiple apartments that have been broken in too. The security on this building is of the lowest quality. I have friends who have had random people walk in their apartments all the time. I had one friend have his laptop and Xbox stolen. Not to mention the gate on the garage is the worst setup I have ever encountered. It takes sometimes 5 minutes to get the gate to open for you on the way in and on the way out. It was the stupidest designed device they could have ever installed. Again, this was probably to cut corners when building this horrible piece of infrastructure.Hope this help bring light to the terrible place that is called the deacon!
The Deacon is in a prime location, probably the nicest building on campus with all the amenities, and has really cool events for its residents making it feel like a community. However, with all the negative reviews pertaining to robberies & fire alarms going off every 30 minutes, you would think that instead of replying dont leave your doors popped open, they would install security cameras / lock the front doors at all times of the day & not just after 6 / and fix the fire alarms???? Of course the blame isnt completely on management in regards to robberies - theyre right about locking our doors, but at the same time its their fault that these people are able to get into the building and its their fault that there is no security to stop them / be able to see what happened. Paying 1,000+ a month, you would think they could meet us half way in the middle & install some security cameras. After the buildings been robbed so many times, you would also think they would tell their residents that this is occurring! But because its such a marketing firm, the only email weve gotten is as we know crime happens keeping everyone in the dark. Communication sucks and its because theyre protecting their image. I give them three stars because the buildings designed really cool and of all places to live I still think its one of the best, most community driven places. Def not worth the price though - rent should be around $800 MAX.
Please ignore all 5 star reviews. Most are from before this building was built and other are from employees. This building is an absolute scam. I’ve had 3 friends have their places or cars robbed and Managment told them each time that the cameras were malfunctioning and there is nothing they can do. They charge random fees without telling you. I have honestly considered moving out right now and finding a new place to live. My car was broken in to and the manager did absolutely nothing for me and even made me call the police myself. Nothing works and all maintenance will tell you is “I think it’s broken” and will never get back to you to replace it. DO NOT LIVE HERE IT IS NOT WORTH IT. If you only wanna love here for the pool then just live somewhere else and walk to the deacon and use the pool because everything is always unlocked. The owners of this building should be absolutely ashamed of themselves
Fortunately, I have not seemed to have had as bad of an experience as some of the reviews on here. However, I do have my fair share of complaints. Two words: FIRE ALARMS. There is nothing worse than at 2 a.m the Monday morning of finals to be awoken by the lovely sound of the building fire alarm going off for what seems like the 100th time this year. At this point, Im convinced if it ever was a real fire, we will all die because no one will leave their apartment. On my day of move-in the fire alarm in my room was faulty and I was luckily able to get it fixed and installed correctly. However, there are apparently still rooms that go off for no reason to this day. On the fire alarm incident from last night (where it went off at 2 a.m then again at 9 a.m) we were sent an email stating how a resident pulled the alarm??? Which I find hard to believe as there is a mutual hatred for the fire alarms throughout the entire building so I do not see someone voluntarily pulling it. I feel it is just them trying to cover up the fact they were not installed correctly. My roommate upon move-in had a leaking ceiling that stained her comforter a gross orange color and it took threatening to go to the news to report the issues for them to finally come take it seriously as they focus so much on their social appeal. She also had no ceiling fan installed and just a single hanging light. The floor below us apparently had their ceiling light leaking due to our dishwasher that was installed incorrectly (or had a missing part, something like that). The girls came up and told us about it so we were aware of the issue but the maintenance guy that came was very creepy. He hid to the side of the door (out of view from the peep-hole) and when we finally opened the door to see if he was gone he barged right in without saying anything. Luckily, we knew about the situation because the girls came and told us but if we didnt then it would have been very scary for four girls to just have a random man barge in at midnight. The it took them 3 weeks to finally fix our dishwasher.THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN. I have the absolute JOY of sharing a wall with the trash chute. Every Sunday morning like clockwork I get woken up with glass bottles falling down it. As Im trying to study, as Im doing homework, the trash chute always makes its entrance. You can hear people running in the hallways outside the apartment from inside your room. You can hear conversations from your other roommates rooms even with all of the doors closed. Parties a floor below you are heard loud and clearLocation of some of the apartments is terrible. You apparently have to pay extra next year to have the balcony that faces inward. However, if you look out the window to one of the elevator rooms, there are balconies that look directly at a wall. What is the point of paying extra when your view is a wall? My room is located in a corner, I have one window and it looks into other rooms so I do not feel comfortable having it open, making it virtually useless. It feels ridiculous to pay this amount of money for a view into other apartments.Cell service is a nightmare. My family lives hours away from me and calls cut out every five minutes. If my head isnt basically touching the window, I have no service. This isnt an issue of the cell service provider, its a building issue. Going out front doesnt even work. You to walk away from the building to regain service. When they first installed the gate on the car garage, everyone had issues. It wouldnt let people in or out without our car being in a specific spot. I had to fully back up once and have someone else open the gate as my tag wouldnt work. This isnt but a building issue but just a forewarning: people also SUCK at driving in the parking garage, I have almost been hit five times and most of the time its because people dont realize its a one-way parking garage and end up going down the wrong way, almost hitting you.On the bright side, the staff that works in the front has been nice and helpful. Thats about it, though.
The office lacks organization overall, I’ve gotten packages at least several hours to days Late after they have been delivered by shipping company. they are never logged on time. Packages have been lost and even they’ve claimed to have returned to sender but I’ve never got any other updates on it. I would not recommend sending packages here and why live here if you can’t get a simple package 🤷♂️
Do not live here. One thing we quickly realized is the Deacon cares about their social appeal, not about their residents. I have a solid list of reasons this place is not worth any money, much less $800+ per month. I left in December and still am not completely out since 2 months after moving out, they tried to slip a fee in claiming I never turned my keys in, which was luckily disproved by a confirmation email we forced them to draw up.1. Move-in process. The Deacon was not near living standards when they opened the doors. Dust and construction debris caked the hallways, some rooms didnt even have appliances installed for weeks, and pipes were leaking in multiple locations. A few hours after moving in, I came back to find my comforter and sheets completely stained orange, with an metallic smelling substance leaking from the exposed pipe above my bed. Also, there was no ceiling fan in my room, just a single lightbulb with no fixture.2. Maintenance. Going off the issues with my room, I immediately went to the front desk and reported the pipes obviously being damaged. The worker first told me to file a report on the app and when I tried, it was obvious the app didnt work. Instead, he wrote my emergency issue on a post-it note and told me it would be taken care of. After waiting all day, I went back down and asked a different worker. To no surprise, they had no record of my report. Finally, after I had put in no less than 4 reports over a span of 3 days, my mother had to threaten the Deacon with John Matarese from the news, who wanted to run a story immediately. Once their social reputation was threatened, I immediately got attention (still no ceiling fan for 2 weeks).3. Safety. Its no secret that Clifton has its fair share of crime, just like any college campus. One of the reasons I was drawn to the Deacon and okay with forking out the high rent was because of the safety features they offered, such as security cameras, secure entrances and guards. Read any of the reviews below and you will see how well the cameras have helped residents who get robbed. As for secure entrances, they dont exist. Honestly, the clubhouse and study areas are pretty luxe, if you can even get to them through the people who dont even live there just walking in. When it comes to guards, they cant help with anything while their sleeping and aloof on the clock.4. Admin. To be fair, everyone at the front desk does a great job at running their social media, telling everyone what they want to hear, and leaving fraudulent 5-star reviews on their own company. I cant overestimate the amount of times a front desk employee told me one thing while the next told me the opposite. There were some people in the administration that were helpful along the way, and like clockwork, the next time I would go to them for help, theyd have quit unexpectedly.5. Subleasing. UC has a giant co-op program. CEAS, Lindner, DAAP, and some CECH students filter in and out of campus every other semester, creating a huge demand for a subleasing option. Every other place on campus accommodates this, but no matter what the Deacon promises you, this is not the case. Sure enough, once we start the process of finding someone to fill our spots, we are hit with claims that subleasing was never in the talks, and definitely not an option for the future. When I met with a then-higher up of the company (Eli), he promised me that come spring when I left for co-op, they would have a solution figured out. Once again, I went to meet with him, and he had quit the company. Instead of subleasing, the Deacon makes you completely transfer your lease to another person, pay a $500 fee, and then when you come back, re-pay all of the application and redecorating fees. This would be fine if its what I went into the situation expecting, but when Eli promised me one thing, then quits, and Diane King in the office writes it off as a miscommunication, it says a lot about how they run behind the scenes. Morgan in the office has been the only helpful one throughout the process.
The deacon is not what they make it out to be on their website. As one of the first residents to live in the deacon, it was quite the surprise walking into this building. The hallways and the walls look awful, the elevators always smell like urine or spoiled milk, the bedrooms and bathrooms have chips in the paint and scratches from workers trying to hurry and get the building ready on time. The amenities are nice; however, they do not keep the tanning beds clean and the pool only gets 2 hours of sunlight a day because of the sides of building surrounding it. The fire alarms might just be the most annoying and ongoing issue. They go off multiple times a day (even at 3am) and there’s no way to know if there is actually a real fire. The deacon will definitely leave you feeling catfished for the price you pay to live here. Moral of the story, don’t live here and waste your money.
After a couple months since move in there has been little effort to improve serious complaints. Apartment units are initially nice but that’s the only appeal. Fire alarms constantly go off (in units and building wide in the middle of the night) and nothing has been done to address it. Even worse there is still no cell service in most of the building with students being told “use wifi calling.” Things constantly break in the unit with maintenance having come about 6 times in two months to my unit alone. The rest of the apartment building (excluding lobby and amenities) is dirty and not well maintained. This building is overpriced and not properly managed so I am so happy to be leasing a house next school year instead.
Don’t make the same mistake I did, do not live here. I have spotty cell service throughout my apartment and no service in hallways (really safe). The fire alarm goes off frequently at all hours of the day/night. Management claims it’s due to resident misconduct. I’m convinced the wiring system in the building is messed up, (If there is a real fire we will all likely assume it’s another false alarm). Truly disappointed, this place had the potential to be amazing, just poorly managed...
Very Misled moving into this apartment. While I do understand that it is brand new, i still find it inexcusable that on move in my dishwasher, shower, and washing machine didnt work and to this day my cable doesnt work. The fire alarms are a huge “boy who cried wolf” issue at this point. I admittedly dont ever leave to them because of how frequent they are. Sometimes they go off for 10 minutes and sometimes its 5 seconds. On Christmas Day I was woken up at 4AM due to a fire alarm and the day after at 2am. Not to mention a fire alarm the night before my 8AM exam at 2Am.The Amenities are very nice but also only open for a limited time. I find I want to use many things after 5pm and cant get access to any of them. I moved here because they displayed a studio and as a drummer I was looking forward to having a space for music. However this room is still completely empty and I dont have access to my instrument. The apartments are smaller than labeled on the website (I measured), the paint job is sloppy, the bathroom floor is peeling. Its an alright experience living here but for the price I dont say its worth it. There are helpful staff but there was even a brief period where you couldnt get in through the front doors. So far my experience has been decent and I dont blame anyone entirely but I do think the coming of this apartment was very rushed and sloppily handled. I signed on a studio A which shows a balcony and my apartment had no balcony but yet i still had to pay the same price. S M H
The Deacon absolutely was not move in ready for these students paying an exorbitant amount of money per person to live there.Having been in the facility a number of times since tenant move-in, it’s clear the construction schedule fell behind drastically affecting interior finishes and mechanics. From a safety liability standpoint, this is a massive fail on property & construction managements part.Reviews stating concerns and issues are spot on. Reviews prior to The Deacon’s opening – the result of hype incentives to generate social media attention and increase leasing opportunity goals. There is absolutely no streamlined process for reporting issues and the execution of issues being addressed in any sort of timely manner. If there are processes in place for personnel to properly intake the sheer volume of issues tenants are having, it does not translate in a proactive communicative manner to current tenants experiencing building related problems.Responses are slow to non-existent in a number of cases (by phone, by email, or otherwise). Instructions to “stop by the leasing office” are misleading considering who has time to swing into the leasing office during hours of operation while attending classes all day?Phone #’s publicized should be operational and have a designated operator or operators taking phone calls and responding to messages left (good luck with that). A message left should generate a returned phone call or text acknowledging receipt of maintenance concerns reported and an estimated time frame in which the maintenance issue will be addressed, the same goes for an email. In terms of a supposedly experienced property management service provider; there is an obvious lack of preparedness and training for the overwhelmed leasing/maintenance personnel leading back to the management company’s lack of placing importance on this aspect. While it’s understandable that it takes time to “work out kinks”, it’s alarming that the push for opening may have taken precedence over proper construction completion processes directly compromising tenant living quarters and safety. This is concerning on a multitude of levels.
Looking for a place for your college student to live where they will feel safe and secure? You won’t find it here. No security cameras inside, the ones in the parking garage conveniently never work. Their top-of-the-line security they bragged so much about can be found watching YouTube videos at the front desk or sleeping... or just can’t be found at all. There’s a break in every day, no exaggeration. They don’t keep their residents informed of anything that’s happening on the premises if it’s a matter of personal safety, just a puny email reminding everyone to use common sense and lock their belongings up. But hey, there’s “free” food every once in awhile and a pool so you should definitely pay $1000+ a month to live here! The security, or lack thereof, is just up and coming on a long list of screwups the Deacon has yet to fix.
Fire alarms constantly go off sometimes for 30+ mins. The doors are either completely unlocked or completely locked (to where you cant get in with a key) so there have been many robberies. You cant pick up your packages until the front desk processes them which has taken up to 3 days for me. The study rooms are not sound proofed AT ALL. But hey they have a pool I guess.
Everything about the fire alarms and burglaries are true.I live in a 4-person dorm and my own fire alarms in my room go off constantly. I have to call maintenance to turn them off and replace them every time (which is is pretty fast at least). I am told that they go off because of dust in the air, and there is a lot of dust. There is so much dust in my room alone that I can dust my entire room, and within an hour it is covered with a thin layer of dust again. In fact, when I first moved in, my windowsill was covered in layers of dust. I ran my finger along it and got a large shard of glass stuck in my fingertip. I know a new building will usually have a lot of dust, but the problem seems to be that it is seemingly impossible to get rid of. Every time I dust my room it just comes back again as quickly as I dusted it.There is also a problem with theft. This is mostly because doors in the deacon do not lock automatically when you close them. I lived in Scioto (a UC dormitory) last year and the doors locked behind us. I have no idea why they do not lock themselves here. My friends from high school who live in the Deacon were robbed out of $4000 worth of stuff. I also have had experiences with random people just walking into my dorm. One Friday, I was in my room watching TV when a random drunk guy came in through the front door, screamed, and left. Come to think of it, the Deacon also has a problem with very loud people running up and down the hallways on the weekends. Not a huge problem but still, annoying.Parking is good in my experience. The garage floors have doors that lead into the individual floors (for example if you park on the 8th floor of the garage you can walk into the 8th floor of the building). However, during the first few months of classes, these doors were not locked and anyone could just walk right in if they wanted to. Also, they apparently do not salt the top floor of the garage. I had a friend tell me their car was sliding all over the place on the top floor and nearly hit another car.
Ive been moved into this apartment for nearly a week and its becoming more and more clear that this place was slapped together as quickly as possible and not ready for move-in. I thought the grime on my bathroom door was a pattern since the whole place has an industrial feel, but as it turns out it was just coated in a thick layer of DIRT. In fact, everything in the apartment was covered in what I can only assume was construction dust and had to be wiped down thoroughly before it was even inhabitable. On top of that, Ive been trying to reach out to a manager every day since move in with concerns (my bedroom did not include a desk or table as was advertised, and one of my roommates matched roommates is allergic to my pet- something that should have been addressed LONG ago considering I had to pay a fee upfront to have him with me) and havent received any returned communication. I might have been willing to forgive this if rent didnt cost an arm and a leg– but with how much Im paying to live here, Im beyond frustrated.
Although the apartments are beautiful, maintenance and safety do not seem to be a priority. I moved my college daughter into a street level apartment in August. Her bedroom window (at the end of an alley at street level) has been broken since move in day. The complex promised to fix it by end of August 2019. Although I have been calling weekly, it is now mid-October and the window is still broken, which would make it very easy for someone to break in. Despite numerous calls, the manager of the complex has steadfastly refused to talk with me and has the student worker who answers phones promise the window will be fixed next week. Its ridiculous given the pricing and location.
Im writing this as a parent of a Deacon resident (ie. I don’t live there, but we pay the bill and we, like all parents, care deeply about our kids):My concern with The Deacon is their lack of ability to deal with the negative experiences of their housing, and their confusing to nonexistent communication. I write this publicly because they didn’t respond to the portal. To me, the responses in reviews are all defensive - we sent out multiple notices.., the residents need to lock their doors.., ... this may be true, but what is The Deacon doing to improve their communication and interaction with their young adult residents and actually SOLVE the problems and PREVENT mis-understandings???I know several people who wanted to stay and are out for 20/21 because we somehow didn’t finish the renewal, yet we have emails saying our renewal is complete and it doesnt mention additional steps. Their response: well, we dont have rooms. We were told that alerts were in the portal. I went there, found none. If they deleted them, why? The emails read as generic reminders. Not finding the portal info, I asked for an explanation of what we missed, but have not received a response. There are two messages now in the portal and/or email that make no sense. We have a move out checklist - yet we have a lease until 7/30. What does this mean? Im afraid to ignore anything now. Do they think were leaving?I also got a “Financial Check Out statement” for our 20-21 lease which included a lease #- which they told us we dont have. Thats insult to injury. On the alarms: theres an implication in their responses to reviews that the fire alarms are residents pulling them. Our apartment had alarms that went off literally all hours and was only stopped when the fire department came (because there was no maintenance response) and dis-engaged the unit in their room in the middle of the night. We were told at one point that the electric issues in the room were so bad, they might need to move us out and rewire it. New appliances failing... its a mess. Yet no sign of appreciation for being their resident and living thru these issues.News alert: Kids prop doors open and have friends over, lots of them. They also dont think bad things will happen to them. Maybe put buzzers and cameras on the doors? Its not that hard. Maybe actually have security systems and people that understand and relate to the kids? Of all things, that’s my biggest disappointment.Startup problems are common - but OWN them. Learn from and solve the issues and win our satisfaction and loyalty thru your care of our kids that adds value to the money we spend. We wanted to spend >$350 a month premium for what The Deacon could have been. Through our experience, there is little value in the premium.Maybe their business plan is to have UC take it over since our rooms probably went to the UC agreement for more rooms that we just got a letter about. UC Housing- beware.
LOOKS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES. In all of the online pictures they only show one of 2 suites in the whole building. The rest of the rooms are one floor rooms that look like an entire frat lived in each one. Even the pictures of the lobby are photo shopped to make it look better, upon walking in you can barley tell if it’s under construction or not.
Absolutely outraged with the service here. First of all, the fire alarms go off multiple times a day for prolonged periods of time. Even in the middle of the night. Along with this, the rooms are poorly constructed and need constant maintenance, despite being brand new! The biggest issue is that I first signed my renewal offer but I guess there is a separate document to officially “sign it”. This happened to all 4 of my roommates and now the unit has been given always to 4 other people. We were never contacted about the issue, despite signing the first document and already being residents. We now have to move out of the complex because there are no 4 bedrooms left. Absolutely ridiculous. Horrible service
This is my second year living here and I absolutely love it. It is located just a short walk from the University of Cincinnati main campus and in a safer part of Clifton. They provide a number of amenities to residents that cannot be found anywhere else nearby. Management and staff are extremely professional and responsive, especially the general manager, Andrea. Overall, so far, it has been a great experience living here.
I have been quite irritated with my stay here and refuse to renew my lease. Fire-alarms constantly going off, persistent break-ins, and lack of transparency are among the many issues with this place. When I first moved in, I was unable to use my toilet - at all. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, they said that my issue wasn’t an emergency and to use the hallway bathroom. Took nearly two weeks for maintenance to address the situation.Cincinnati tenant law requires landlords to fix issues that render the unit or parts of the unit unusable. The Deacon infringed upon my fundamental tenant rights and that’s unacceptable.I looked at the Deacon’s website and found that they’ve already sold out all their units for the next next school year... The cycle continues...Also, those “5 Star reviews” are fake and most likely done by the staff.
Ive had a terrible experience living here. It was unfinished and dirty upon my move in, not even my apartment the whole building looked terrible and nothing like what was promised when I signed the lease. The management is terrible they overcharged me in rent for the first 6 months and charged late fee on top of it when it was them who messed up my payments. To this day I still have problems with the management. They make it hard to access the amenities we pay for and the rooms are sooo small for how much you pay a month. It is not worth a penny and its terrible living here almost like a prison. ALSO THE WINDOWS DONT OPEN!
My unit at the Deacon is great (when it is working properly). But the physical space of residence here is where any positive apsect of living at The Deacon stops. The fire alarm is constantly going off, we have had multiple (5+) faulty appliances and were wrongly balmed by the maitnence team for their malfuntion each time. The staff memebrs claim to care for their residents in instagram posts and public media statements, but it seems that once you are locked in to a lease and they have your money, the well-being of residents is disregarded. I have reached out several times in need of help and have been denied, quite rudley, each time. My roomates and I all agree on this negative experience. For the price of rent that I am paying out of pocket to live here as a student, I am very dissapointed with my time here and would not reccomend living here.
Overcharged by a couple thousand dollars and have received no help and have heard nothing back. Asking to see my payments, I was being charged for parking when I never had a car, and even then, somehow the bill total didnt add up to the crazy-high price I was told I had to pay. A legit scam, actually was robbed. Very unfunny, not cool. The staff also bullied my roommate when she was trying to discuss issues about another roommate who had threatened her multiple times and the staff disregarded her safety even though she had a witness to the threatenings. The staff said they didnt need to hear from someone else, but still didnt believe her.
I am writing this review in response to the five-star ratings the Deacon is forcing their employees to put on this website. Not really subtle to insert glowing and identical five-star reviews amidst a sea of poor experiences. Also, the front door hangs open and anyone can enter the building at any time. People have been robbed by non-deacon residents.Non-residents are allowed to buy parking passes, which makes theft incredibly more likely. I recommend the Verge.
From the beginning, the apartment complex was not ready for move in. The staff is VERY rude and not helpful what so ever. If you need anything fixed in the apartment it takes weeks for someone to come out and fix it. This property is not worth the money that were paying to live here. There was also some hidden fees and misleading information that was given to me. Overall, I wish I could get out of my lease however, even when trying to rent to someone else, there are hundreds of fees that you are responsible for before even completing that process. Needless to say, I will NOT be renewing any type of lease for the following year.
This is the worst apartment complex I have ever witnessed. They charged a $500 fee for a friend to spend the night even though guests are allowed. The amenities never work or are not open yet they still charge everyone for it. We were not allowed to move in until the last week of the month and they forced us to pay the entire month rent. Finally, the managers are the meanest people ever and cuss out college students when they bring up valid grievances.
The Deacon right now just isn’t worth it. Fire alarms going off numerous times and usually at night, robberies occurring recently, and poor internet connection. How would I be able to call for emergencies without having to leave the building? I wanted to like the Deacon but I just don’t feel the safest here and needs lots of work. I even felt safer in Calhoun last year...The only saving grace and reason it gets two stars instead of one is because of the game room
When it works, The Deacon is great. But every day, most of it DOESNT work. No hot water the first week, our dishwasher is still broken 2 weeks into the semester, AC is spotty, and fire alarms randomly go off in many of the rooms. For how expensive it is to live here, I believe reimbursement for the many shortcomings is very reasonable.Side note: the industrial aesthetic feels more like they ran out of time to decorate rather than a deliberate decision.
Unfortunate circumstances at this place. Would have loved to enjoy living here! The place has wonderful amenities, however the lack of enforcement on noise and smoking policies has absolutely ruined my experience of living here. I can understand it is a new building on a college campus, however since DAY 1 I have NOT had cell service, have had a broken window that is yet to be fixed 9 weeks in, and am CONSTANTLY kept up by loud music. Its so loud I cant even have a simple phone conversation or listen to a TV show right in front of me. I cant take a nap if Id like to and I am paying a decent amount to live here. The proposed solution to use wifi calling in place of cell service has not improved my experience at all. There are still many areas of the building where wifi calling doesnt work, and my calls drop constantly on wifi calling in my room.I would hope in the future they have someone on staff to sit out in the courtyard to enforce the noise policies. Will never be living here again. The place often smells like weed smoke inside and outside. Nothing seems to be enforced to help this issue. Calling a security officer on staff for the noise doesnt do anything to help you out. I highly recommend NOT living in a room with a balcony on the inner part of the building OR living below the 7th floor. To ADD to the awful circumstances of living here this far, there are fire alarms that sound off all the time. No one seems to be at all aware of this happening, there are times where these will sound off for HOURS at a time. I have not heard any update from staff at all about whether or not these are truly sounding off because of fires or if these arent trustworthy firearms. Not sure what to do anymore honestly. I have called in about 10+ times about the fire alarms.
Beyond excited to be living at The Deacon. It’s the newest place to live at the University of Cincinnati. The apartment it self is very nice and modern. The common areas are well designed and fun to be in. Anytime I have to leave to go somewhere, I don’t want to because it’s a very enjoyable experience. Of course things were hectic at first during move in but it’s because The Deacon is new and there are going to be kinks. The staff is amazing and so nice. They literally answer anything I have for them and they are quick to get things done. I’ve lived in multiple apartment complexes in Clifton and this by far is the best experience. Very excited to live here for a few years! #LiveTheDeacon
As a parent I am extremely concerned that their is no cell phone service no matter which provider you have throughout the building. If there is an emergency the residents have no way of calling for help. As soon as they leave their room in the halls etc there is no WiFi service. The garage is not gated and has very poor lighting. Things have been rushed and are sloppy in the units. Towel bars and lights falling off the walls. Absolutely filthy windows inside and out. It is clear they were not ready for students and I am very concerned about the safety. I’ve left a message two days ago and have yet to receive a call. I know things are busy and hectic but no phone service is a serious safety concern as well as uncared and dark sub ground parking garages.
This apartment complex has without a doubt been a joke and a slap in the face. I have been charged with random fees, given poor maintenance help, ROBBED, etc. The reason I say this is because with all of that the Deacon refused to help at all. PLEASE DO NOT LIVE HERE. Your belongings and your personal safety will he put at risk. There is little to no security at the deacon and anyone can be let in at any time. Your personal belongings are not covered by your renters insurance provided by the Deacon. DO NOT LIVE HERE
I’ve enjoyed my experience so far (2 months). The office staff is kind and respond to most requests within 48 hours. It never hurts to follow up with them every once and a while to make sure they are meeting your needs. if you want to get your moneys worth definitely take advantage of all of the amenities including the gym, which seems very under used in my opinion (maybe just b/c of covid).
A bit pricey but its been a great place to live during the COVID era. I do look forward to seeing what the place will be like when things are normal but so far everything has been great. Staff has always been responsive and helpful, repairs have been handled promptly, and couldnt ask for a much better location.
Personally I feel like I have been pretty lenient with the Deacon and all of the mishaps that have occurred during and since move in. I considered not even writing a review. However, the 3 most recent reviews are by all means FRAUDULENT and show how the Deacon only cares about you until you sign your lease. The 3rd most recent is written by a literal employee here, the second most recent is her roommate, and I can only assume the most recent is either an employee or was some how paid off (they’re good at that) considering she followed the same script the other two did. If you are sincerely interested in learning about what the experience at the Deacon is really like, consider reading the other reviews or asking students you know at UC. NOT HONEST OR TRANSPARENT WITH THEIR TENANTS AT ALL!
Very unsafe and sloppily put together. If you go in one of “luxury” study lounges, it’s just a table and what looks like all of the wiring and mechanical parts for the floor. Walked in today and the security guard was sleeping in the clubhouse. Fire alarms go off multiple times a day and the whole place reeks of weed. Definitely not worth the high rent.
Beautiful place and great location. The staff is more friendly and accommodating than any other place my son has lived since beginning at UC. Im a little confused by the complaints of pricing and the fact that its not 100% done yet. Pricing is very clear if you pay attention and who cares if they are still putting on the finishing touches. Without a doubt the nicest place with the best location near campus. If you complain about anything here, your living standards are clearly above my pay grade.
Where do I even start with this place????? If you want your stuff stolen I would highly recommend coming to the deacon. If you don’t plan on using any of the amenities I highly recommend the deacon because absolutely nothing works here. Want a free place to stay for the night? Come to the deacon all the doors are left wide open for anyone to come in. When you want to speak to a manager they’re always in “meetings”. This is literally Fyre festival 2.0. Starting tomorrow I will be knocking on doors to get a list of residents who would be open to a class action lawsuit against this scam. I have already spoken to an attorney and there will be no upfront fee as they will just get a portion of the settlement. I have been against going this way from the start but at this point I am just done with this place.
The deacon charges you a full month of rent (for me, 1000+ dollars) for the full month of august even though you move in on August 21st. This company steals money from students. They use bots to bump their internet ratings. This place can’t even fix a broken front door within a week. Not worth the headache by far.
I am incredibly impressed by how kind and helpful everyone here is. I relocated from Florida and the staff made it exceptionally easy to transition into this community. My favorite part of my experience is how human the staff is. None of us in this world are perfect, so the fact that management worked with my individual situation in order for me to have a roof over my head in a new place is something i will always be grateful for. I cant thank this community enough for embracing and accepting myself and my dog (Zeus) so completely. Id recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a great community of people, unique amenities, and pleasant staff thats always willing to help. I wish I could give 10 stars!
Please fix the fire alarms in this building!! They went off 4 times yesterday. It’s November, they should’ve been fixed by now. Not only is this a huge nuisance, it’s a safety issue!! Residents are choosing not to leave when they go off because they think it’s a false alarm. What happens if it’s a real emergency and no one is evacuating?? This should be a top maintenance and safety priority!!
First off I called to see if there was any exception if there’s no in person classes at uc next year, because I will not be living there if we are not in class. They told me I had to choice but to pay $1,500 to get out of my leaseAlso they delete comments of users complaining on all forms of social media and recently made it so no one can comment. Look to google reviews from REAL people.Wouldn’t be surprised if this got deleted
These apartments are going to be the best in Cincinnati! From the amenities, to the brand new EVERYTHING, how could you not want to live here? The staff is also extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the apartments. I highly suggest this location to anyone in the area looking for housing!
Believe me when I say that I’d give this place a 0 if I could. I’m a manager and I’ve been in customer service roles for 7 years, not to mention I went away for Navy Bootcamp, and I’ve never experienced such a poor excuse for respect, dignity, or common decency in my life. If you like being treated poorly and having all your concerns swept under the rug; this is the place for you! This building experienced a flood the floor above me on March 13th and my apartment was damaged because of it. Some of my property was also damaged during this. I was never contacted by the property manager until my boyfriend’s dad had to request a video meeting to discuss the flood and attempt to discuss ending our lease early and cutting our losses. The property manager denied the damage to our apartment was as bad as we had been told it was, refused to cut our rent back for a month, refused to send someone to investigate our fire alarms (which didn’t work during an actual emergency), and simply advised us not to touch our light switch that had WATER coming out of it just days prior. She couldn’t have seemed less interested in what we were dealing with and acted as if our concerns and complaints weren’t justified. It’s like the people here are professionally trained to gaslight you. I work full time and my boyfriend is in college full time and we pay $1600 a month to live here and not even enjoy our time at home peacefully. I understand emergencies happen, but there is a right and a wrong way to handle them, and this place completely failed. The only plus side is the maintenance staff who is completely amazing. The property manager will take credit for all of their hard work though, so don’t bother telling her that they are the only good thing. Not to mention, this building is basically brand new. Who knows what else might be defective? Don’t worry though, management will never contact the whole property to let everyone know what happened. Instead, they’ll email you about how “spring break is never cancelled here at the Deacon,” and that’s because you can swim in my bathroom.I wrote a very long, detailed review of the events that unfolded her about a week ago, but it doesn’t meet the character limit, so I’ll attach the screenshots with screenshots from the videos I took of the flood, feel free to read it and see the whole experience in detail.I have never experienced such a lack of empathy and consideration, especially at this level and given this landlord/tenant relationship. Please, DO NOT send your college students to live at The Deacon under ANY circumstances. This place DOES NOT care about its residents and is ONLY interested in the money it has coming in. It will clearly do whatever it takes to secure those funds.
I have lived at this establishment for this past year, and it is like living in hell. With break ins, fire alarms going off at all hours, horrible quality, and horrid management, I would honestly rather be homeless. If I can give you any advice save your money and move into the verge.
I do not recommend living here at all. It looks very nice from the outside but it is not. The staff is rarely helpful, and some are very rude. The amount we pay is not worth what we get at all. There is so many problems in this place too many to list. Even when we voice our problems nothing is done. Do not live here.
Horrible! Moved our daughter in this week, the place was still under construction, hallways filthy, paint splatters everywhere, holes in the walls where outlets should be, washer doesnt work, elevators do not work, sink faucet installed so far back water runs all over the counter, vanity cracked, balcony door doesnt close, bathroom sinks leak, and it goes on and on!

2022-07-05The actual rooms / amenities are very nice. But that’s it. The management is one of the worst I have ever seen. I have NEVER gotten through on the phone to a real person in my entire time living here - guessing they do this so they do not have to deal with problems. The pool (which we pay for) has still not opened and it is July 5! It was supposed to open in the end of May. The reason it’s not open is because the Deacon didn’t get their pool license in time. The doors automatically lock and I got locked out and could not get through to a team member for assistance. Frankly a HUGE safety issue if you ask me. Speaking of safety - the garage door on the parking garage has NEVER worked for longer than a day. They make us all go get new parking passes and then they never even keep the door shut - another huge safety issue. This is after I have heard of numerous cars getting broken into. Our utilities were not charge to us for months because the website was down and then they just charged it all in one lump sum when they finally got it working. I would strongly not recommend living at the Deacon, while the facilities are nice - nothing else is.

2022-01-05This place is amazing! I love the private bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is super nice and spacious. The staff are wonderful people who are very patient. The fire alarms are not an issue for my apartment. Occasionally, you will hear a distant fire alarm from a different apartment but it is barely noticeable. I have only lived here for a few months and have not yet ran into a major maintenance problem.

2022-05-27The new staff are so much better than the employees that worked the front desk prior. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. My apartment has a few minor issues but all have been fixed. The location is so close to campus and walking distance to tons of restaurants.

2022-01-06While living at the deacon there have been a long list of problems. The first problem would be that the staff is not trained, not polite, not willing help in any situation, and quite frankly rude. The staff will do anything to get you to renew your lease and then once you have, you are treated like you do not exist. The second problem would be that the parking garage is not secure. In the handbook it states that there will be a gate and security cameras that work. There is neither one of these. The deacon has at least 2 car break ins a night and what do they do to help? The answer is nothing. They say that since the resident signed the handbook it is out of their hands. While actually we did sign the handbook but, the deacon is not upholding what they said they would do sooooo it is your problem. The third problem would be that the fire alarms go off constantly for no apparent reason. This is very inconveniencing and annoying. The fourth problem would be that maintenance requests take at least a month to fill even if it is an emergency. And when they are filled they do the bare minimum to keep whatever was broken fixed. I will say that the deacon is one of the nicer apartments near UC but the staff and long list of problems is what makes it unbearable. I 0/10 recommend living here unless you want to be badgered everyday to renew your lease and have countless problems that will not be fixed :).

2022-05-18Terrible management. No employees after 6 PM to help residents with anything. The pool table, shuffle board, or ping pong table are unusable after 6 PM. How does that make any sense? Why even have them at that point? The front desk opens late 10 AM and closes at 6PM. This makes it hard on anyone working a job to find time to pick up their packages. A Motel 6 has better management then this place. Employees around The Deacon are friendly and nice however, the management especially the lady with short blondish hair is harsh, rude, and unfriendly. I personally recommend she is replaced immediately.

2022-02-16Proximity to UC is nice and that is arguably the only advantage of the apartment. Everything else is about greed of the management. First, rent is exponentially higher than the average. Secondly, there is not sufficient street parking to accommodate for the residents. However, they will offer you the option to park in the garage for an additionally $90 a month. With the rent being as high as it is, parking should already be included. I would not recommend this apartment complex to anyone else.

2021-12-03After two years at the Deacon, I would absolutely not recommend this living situation to ANYONE. The staff are unprofessional, inexperienced, and downright rude except for a few. They are manipulating and deceitful - promising everything they can until you sign the lease and then they treat you as if you’re dirt. Living here was so stressful and miserable I spent all the time I could living at home and commuting over two hours to class/work or staying at a friend’s house just so I would not have to sleep in the building. There are lots of neat, and nice things that the property has to offer including a pool and workout rooms, but please listen to me when I say the amenities are NOT WORTH IT. The location is NOT WORTH IT. The brand new building is NOT WORTH IT (so many structural flaws and unfinished parts - they have started to advertise them as an “industrial look”… my first apartment here didn’t have a finished ceiling). My list of bad experiences here is lengthy and I honestly can’t remember a time when I lived here that “something” wasn’t happening to me personally or all of the residents as a whole. My last experience personally was that while I was out of town, a water leak sprung and completely soaked all of my belongings and the carpet in the bedroom - which my bed was sitting on. I was never notified of this, only by chance I came back to the apartment and found the floor soaking wet. When I called the front desk, an employee said “yeah, a lot of other units on the floor have been having the same problem” and offered literally no help. My apartment and belongings sat in water for HOURS based on their condition and were ruined. I can say wholeheartedly that living here significantly negatively impacted my mental health and took away a big part of my college experience. It was a constant stressor for me. If you are considering The Deacon as a place for you or your college student to live, PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider. Prestige Property Management is a great company.

2022-02-04I lived here for about a year in 2020. I was assigned a random roommate, who was nice but was pretty messy overall. I dont know if its because it was the midst of COVID, but things just seemed too packed at times at The Deacon. Especially, at the pool in the summertime. Very industrial looking, my bedroom ceiling lacked tremendously. It reminded me of something out of Eraserhead. The only nice thing about my apartment was the view considering I resided on the thirteen floor. I do think there are some structural issues with the building that need revisioning; they constructed it fairly quickly.

2020-08-20Words cannot describe how absolutely frustrating these past few days have been. To preface, we signed our lease in DECEMBER for a three bedroom apartment at the Deacon. We were assigned to apartment number 1033 but two weeks before we moved in we were notified that we had been moved to 633. We didn’t think much of it. When we arrived and started moving things in we were surprised at how it looked but we didn’t take much time to actually look around since it was such a chaotic day. Then, we noticed nails coming out of the ceiling, weird stains, writing on the walls and on the plumbing pipes, random holes in the bathroom ceiling, DUCT TAPE around the duct pipes. We tried to talk to someone this morning and were told that management wasn’t on site and that they had no idea when they would be back. They said they’d call me but they never did. Finally, I got my mom involved and she was met with very unhelpful management that claimed the unifinished apartment was the “urban aesthetic”. My boyfriend has lived in this apartment complex for a year and I have toured and seen other units and NONE of them have a completely unfinished ceiling. We were sold a unit that is unlivable and we were not even shown what the unit would look like. Management came to look at our unit today and told us that only two other units in this complex (that has probably 100 units) has ceilings like this. She also told us that it’s normal to have nails coming out of your ceiling and writing on the walls. Then I told her that we think someone was going to move into this unit early and saw it unacceptable so they moved them to our original unit 1033. When I brought this up she said nothing but told my mom that we were always in 633. I have an email from when I paid the first months rent BEFORE we moved in that we were in 1033. In writing. The Deacon is a nightmarish place to live and I cannot believe I looked forward to living here all summer, drove 11 hours by myself to get here only to find our apartment to look like a legitimate dungeon. We pay the same absurd amount to live here as everyone else so why do we have this unit??? Our only options are to stay in this apartment with NO reduction in rent or to move in with a fourth roommate which is not ideal. This place obviously doesn’t care about its residents, just the money. This should not be ok to do to anyone, especially 3 out of state kids who are musicians needing to record in their apartment everyday. Management never apologized and is doing everything to make this the most stressful and terrible experience ever. Share this so people don’t live at the Deacon.

2022-04-26Price is terrible, walls are super thin so you can hear everything that is happening around you, does not even let you live in your apartment for the whole month of august because their move in system is terrible. On top of all of that they have maybe the worst internet provider of all time I beg you if you see any apartment complex with Whitesky communications as their internet provider do not move in they are even more of a nightmare to deal with.
