Walmart Supercenter in other cities:
This Walmart stays well stocked and clean. The auto maintenance is good but they wont put the oil you want in the car only the manufacturers recommended weight. Same for tires so not my go-to place. I like the fact that it carries a number of unusual food items, the result of catering to a large foreign student population from Ohio University.
They have the usual extra sugar filled confections, processed snacks, all pantry items, cleaning items, fresh fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices, usual ordinary casual wear, ordinary housewares and small appliances, toys, basic laptops, Apple phones, makeup, hair, skin, and toiletry, otc medicines, and pharmacy. Before the pandemic, they needed to work on cleaning, which I’m not too optimistic will improve any time soon. Overall, worth a visit for most things one needs on a budget, unless you have money to spend elsewhere, short of name brand or designer clothes and shoes. Management could train employees on customer service more, as I feel a few have no interest in helping customers at check out or have zero conversational skills.
Always a struggle at the Athens Walmart. Never stocked on a lot of products, prices have skyrocketed on everything and they always have too few cashiers. Standing in line for 10-20 minutes because they have 2 registers open. They say theyre short staffed but I applied here a month ago, passed quizzes and never got a call back. Hire some workers, stock your store and maybe the rating would go up. Going to have to go to Logan from now on and thats a shame.
This stores policies need to change, there are never enough registers open, always long lines and prices have gone sky high. I hate using the self check outs because it is just another way Walmart is padding their bottom line on the backs of unpaid labor. Hire some cashiers.
When we visited with my brother, he had a medical issue. The employees couldnt have more helpful. They got him water and provided a chair for him. They then brought a wheelchair so I could get him to the car. He is now fine but I wanted them the employees. I know this isnt a traditional review, but above and beyond should be recognized
Always do our grocery shopping here. Good prices. People need to understand the concept of the self check-out though. It is not meant for you to bring an entire cart of groceries or products through. I guess some just arent that smart. Need to have more cashiers. Only having 2 lines open is unacceptable
If a store has a giant sign at its entrance that says masks are REQUIRED, I assume that masks are REQUIRED. I assume that it is safe to enter and safe to shop. During the 15 minutes we were in the store, we encountered 53 people not wearing masks! If you are going to allow that, tell me so at the door so that I can leave, instead of believing the lie and endangering my health. See you after the pandemic.
Store was busier than I expected it to be for the time of day I was there. (8:00 p.m) but was remarkably clean and organized. Staff was a smidgen slow on response time to my inquiries but remained with me until all of my questions had been resolved and I was satisfied with my selection. Not the best Walmart Ive been to but the Athens Walmart supercenter can hold its own considering the unusual circumstances we live in today. I would recommend this today
The help desk is always closed in the evenings. Theyre short on staff Right now so its not their fault. Some of the management really need a vacation because they dont look like theyre happy to be there!! And a lot of times the managers sure dont treat the customers like theyre happy to see them or talk to them.
I ABSOLITELY hate shopping. When I go, I go to get in, get what Im after and get out. Granted most of what Im after can be found at Walmart (hence 3 stars) and sometimes the staff is nice, although theyre rude or just plain ignore you the majority of the time... Now... as someone who loathes shopping, the checkout process... you have like 30 lanes, not including the self check outs. Every time Im in there, maybe four human ones are open and theres a line into the clothing on each. And the self check outs... lets not discuss the lines. Ive left and bought nothing because of the lines. Its ridiculous.
Always long lines with hardly any registers open. Even lines for self check out were extremely long and growing. I needed something out of the case and when I asked for help it took 3 people to find the person with the keys and im convinced the first 2 didnt even attempt to look. I stood there for 15-20 minutes before someone from a different section of the store got what I needed.. I try to be polite and understanding even in less than ideal interactions but it was one of the few times that the store looked pretty dead. Its really a hit or miss with the employees they are either really nice and polite or extremely rude. I work in retail and understand that sometimes you have a bad day but If you dont like customer service you shouldnt be a retail worker.
This store is a complete mess. After waiting 30+ mins and 2 phone calls to the front desk, I still wait for paint. 10+mins later someone finally comes to help...10+mins after that Im told they dont have the base to mix my paint. Alright... Ill go to lowes, I tell myself, but then have to wait ANOTHER 23 MINS to check out because no one is actually running the registers! Go to the self checkout they would say... nope those lines were even longer! Theres a reason why a seldom frequent this store, but sometimes in a small town ya gotta! #ihateWalmart
They always go above an beyond for there customers an the grocery pic up is amazing an super fast, once u check in within 5mins someones coming out to load ur groceries in your vehicle! The most iv ever waited is 10mins an that was only bcuz I wasnt parked in the right place!! They are altogether wonderful organized, very professional an extremely polite l, I just love shopping there in person and online!! Id give them more stars then 5 if I had that option!
Quit letting people with more than 20 items go through Express checkout. I had a customer threatened me when I said something. And the cashier let it happen. Just terrible. Im a senior citizen. My experience at Athens Walmart sucks because they let it happen. I said something to the manager and she said I cant stop it. Well who in the hell can.
I found everything I was looking for, which this trip wasnt much. Some plastic hangers, lantern fuel, a mop head for my Libman mop, triple antibiotic ointment, a candle, Mr. Clean w/Febreze multipurpose cleaner, and toilet paper. The self-checkout was not available for cash usage, but the cashier in attendance was very kind and checked me out quickly.
I like Walmart for what it is for me to go and buy cheap stuff. I love how their staff is being treated low pay and long hours and hard work and not even the common decency of health insurance. Especially when the family who owns Walmart or worth billions you cant even give your stuff health insurance that you have. And then the most of the stuff have to rely on government assistance in order to make it work.I generally try to shop anywhere else first before I go to walmart.
It was very busy and they only had 2 open registers for people making purchases larger than 20 items. The lines were back up past the main isle blocking pedestrian traffic. They need to open more check out lanes (and less self check outs) to accommodate customers. We were in line for 30+ minutes.
Not even worth 1 star worst experience ever had to scan my own items then register broke so had to move to another so RESCAN EVERYTHING and was was card only so had to have main woman check me out on hers. I then tried to use food card not able so cash for that then I go to walk out and old woman checking EVERYTHING I bought she called for help bc line was forming and the woman behind me had a whole freaking cart was let through.never so disappointed as I was today
I am all about the Athens Walmart! Outranks my hometown supercenter by a gazillion stars. Clean. (EVEN THE BATHROOMS!!)Well stocked. NICE employees! Price comparison- spot on. I stop in and check out what theyve got everytime Im in Athens.Only grevience- can be a little bit like playing human Pac-Man when wandering up an down isles, with them stocking, displays and customers all vying for the same space.
Great variety of products and reasonable prices. Could have nicer youngeremployees or could not have as many elderly with disabilities working checkout line. Many lack the physical ability to do that particular job. But for the most part they are courteous and polite.
This is a pretty solid walmart. Obviously good prices. The store is kept clean and there’s usually a good selection. In my opinion it’s set up a little weird and there’s lots of aisles that are kind of empty. Also a lot of long lines at most check outs. deserving of four stars but definitely not five.
Come here frequently and keep finding dead shopping carts. There is not enough outlets for the amount of carts stored. I carts dont get plugged in anywhere else except by the grocery door by vending machines. Dead carts should be found charging on the cart storage wall
Decent store. My issue is with the automotive service dept. I do not live local to this location but have gotten tires there before. I dont care what day or what hour of the day you call , you can never get anyone to answer the phone. Which makes it difficult to get an appt for services. Just seems to be poorly managed.
Great quality and variety if items. Friendly staff. Helpful customer service with the exception if the lady who told me they do not do online orders or hold orders until you come pick them up which in fact they do with the App. I am handicapped and was disappointed with her poor attitude and false information.
This is your standard Walmart and certainly nothing more. If you need help with anything, especially finding an item in the store, you are entirely on your own as it is nearly impossible to track down an employee. That being said, a few of the cashiers are friendly. I had a return once and with my receipt the employee took care of it quickly and with no hassle. There is a pretzel place and a Subway in this store, and Ive gotten good food at both places. This Walmart also has an eye doctors office and a hair salon.
It has everything basic needed in low to average quality you settle on purchasing when waiting on Amazon order cant wait the day or two delivery on better quality items that is worth paying morefor the brands you cant find now stores that used to carry no longer exist.
We shop there to get most of what we need. But whens schools in they are always busy with collage students so kind of packed slot through the day. Not bad place need to stock more and keep shelves more straighten up some employees could try and help customers instead a group or a few of them just chatting amongst them selfs and not wanting to help customers but if want to get in and out sometimes its not to bad sometimes could take a little bit
My only complaint is parking. It used to be adequate even 1st of the month. But now with the rows that are designated for pick-up, its a nitemare. I circle 3 times and then go to Aldis. I dont understand the justification of rows of EMPTY. RESERVED parking spaces, waiting.. when Im there trying to find a place to park so i can go in and get my groceries. Thank goodness for Aldis
Employees (3!) not wearing masks or not wearing them over their noses despite having over a year to learn how to put a piece of fabric over their nose and mouth.Complaints done to manager Wes who said theyve had trouble with some employees.Complaint also done to the state of Ohios webpage for that purpose.
Its Walmart the very essence of corporate greed. The staff are under paid, overworked and occasionally rude with most management who generally dont have a clue what their staff is doing. Its a great if you dont mind waiting in long lines because they have 5 to 6 of the 15 lines open or fighting through throngs of people by all means shop at Walmart. Ive had to do it and ultimately I had to choose between my sanity and low prices. I chose my sanity.
It was overcrowded. Had to stop for a prescription. There were two fights, one in the middle of the parking lot between two couples and another at the front door between a group of young men and a couple in a white car. The young men kicked the side of the car and an altercation took place. Didnt see any security. The only way in and out was thru the fight.
Athen Walmart is very nice. Laid out very well and has a wide range of clothes on sale. Out of all the surrounding Walmart stores, this one is the best in my opinion. Only suggestion would be to make parking row numbers more visible. I had to help and old man find his car today before entering the store. He couldnt see the row numbers at all. We found his car after searching for 15 minutes. I will be going back and much kudos to the staff of this store.
Look, I get it - its a college town but there are still families and non-college residents in Athens. Everything is geared towards the university. Most employees are rude and unwilling to help. Pickup department is eh. Half of what you order will be unavailable but if you go inside after you pickup, youll find the item. Save time...go to Logan.
Refused to honor their tire warranty. Tires, under warranty, had one with belts busted in multiple places. It looked like a stomped marshmallow. Walmart could not find any information on me even getting tires here. Further, my receipt and paperwork was worthless. It did not prove a thing to them. The fact that they are a Walmart exclusive brand proved nothing. That I had road hazard warranty that they found proved nothing to them. They refused to honor the warranty.
Great employees! At a self service kiosk I forgot to get the 20 bucks cash back.A young lady associate noticed it and stopped another customer from pocketing it, then ran outside to catch me and give me my cash. This Wal-Mart is lucky to have such honest and dedicated personnel.
Management here is worse than any other place I have ever worked or been in. If you are even the slightest bit concerned with doing your job well, they will single you out and do everything they can to get rid of you, from emotional abuse to write ups.As far as being a customer here goes, its a Walmart. You know what to expect (very little).
I like to do my shopping better after 9 pm. Staff are friendlier and check out is also faster.Daytime is crowded and check out is slow and most of the time the customer service desk only has one person working. You would think that when people are waiting 20 minutes for service, they would have more people working.
This store is unorganized, dirty, and the staff is unhelpful. Today my boyfriend and I were looking for a phone case.. there was some type of meeting being conducted in the electronic department and no employees available to assist us. Their immediate problem seemed to be the appearance of the store instead of the customers. I understand if this isnt their responsibility, but they should be able to delegate someone to help us.We left without a case because the shelves were poorly stocked.I dont recommend this place.
Never really enjoyed going to Wal-Mart and actively try to avoid it and support the smaller business out there, but some times there is no choice.Over all though it is a good place to get about everything you need if you are looking for lower end goods. As the items listed there at a discount are generally altered from their more expensive counterparts with lower end parts.
Walmart is exactly the kind of place one would expect. You can get groceries, electronics, toys, home goods...pretty much anything you can imagine. Its not always the best quality, but that is expected. Its a fun place to window shop if you dont want to buy your cheap goods online. I would not recommend buying produce or meat at Walmart though. There are better options in town.
This is your one stop store to get everything you need. Really big and the price is reasonable. You have a lot of self check out and also a checkout area manned by a store rep. At the time I was their the queue wasnt long so check out is speedy. Will always reco.mend this store anytime any day
Yes. This is like almost any other Walmart on the east coast of the country. However, I still got the feeling that it seemed less crowded than the ones I am used to frequenting and the employees seem a little less stressed and the shelves a little bit neater - making the experience just a little bit better.
Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Blessed Kwanzaa... PLEASE cleanse your restrooms.Disgusting. I wouldn’t let my service animal use your filthy facilities.Let me guess. That’s why Kroger has a Union; and I may add I was privileged to design Mr. Sam Walton’s 50th Anniversary mug.Your “children” should be ashamed...I’m appalled for them.Total garbage, with the exception of the optometry department!Efficient and courteous...
Only 2 check out lanes on a crowded Saturday night. As Im sure corporate is trying to screw the workers more people are turning against the store, not the employees, but those who think with dollar signs. Maybe the whole of all the stores should organize and become unionized. Then at least the Walton heirs will have a bunch of empty buildings to walk around in and wonder just exactly what happened.
Went for a battery change, battery must be removed from tire well. Was told they could not remove a lugnut so i did not get my free battery change with the purchase of a battery. I went home and removed the tire by hand with a 4 way and a roadside jack. These are paid mechanics thats working on our cars and they are lazy or dont know how to remove a tire from a car. Basic knowledge
Its a Walmart what more can you say. I was very surprised at the sporting goods counter actually had a knowledgable employee who actually knows what they are talking about. I will be going back again the next time i need something. Far better prices and more selection of products then the competition across the street and without the attitude of the staff of the competition chain store with high prices across the street at the old mall.As for the rest of the store goes its on par with the other Walmart stores. They do have a good selection of products for the local schools sports teams as well. All in all its just a typical Walmart with groceries and a automobile shop to boot . With the best department being the outdoor sporting goods department.
Staff, including managers, are ruder here, than most other Walmarts, and never seem to want to help. In fact, they seem to prefer to argue with customers, say I dont know or Thats not my department and just walk away without even trying to help. This store is also usually a bit dirtier and more cluttered than the typical Walmart. The Kroger down the street is a bit better, cleaner and prices are about the same.
Wouldnt take my refund because I didnt have a receipt? Thats never been an issue before. I called my walmart in my hometown while I was in the store and they are going to refund me, because they could see I had purchased it. It was never used, I bought the wrong product and just wanted to exchange it. I felt there wasnt a good enough reason to reject my refund.I feel as though the lady was just stereotyping me, I could be wrong but based on the conversation I feel that way. I get it I used to work retail. I understand theft and fraudulent returns, but just because Im out of town doesnt categorize me as a thief. I think more training is recommended for their customer service department.
Of course the shelves were empty. Looking for a simple sweeper bag. For all the sweepers out there, you would expect more than 3 choices, none of which were for my sweaper. Then there was no caffeine free diet coke. Came to Walmart for 2 specific things. Left with neither of them
Although my shopping experience was satisfactory the service at the tire center was extremely slow. I arrived and checked in before 9:30am on a Monday, the parking lot was empty and only two bays were occupied in the garage. I was told itd take an hour to mount and balance all 4 tires. It ended up actually taking 2&1/2 hrs!! Aggravating to say the least. Especially after being told on the Saturday prior it would take 3hrs& then informed the best time to come was weekdays before 10am. So, silly me decided to come back on Monday instead. Shouldve just took care of it when I was there the first time, I suppose.
Went to buy a phone case the employee acted like she was put out to have to answer questions, she didnt want to open the display case so we could see what we needed and made us feel rushed at making our our purchase, the end result my husband ended up with a pink/purple iphone case and tempered glass cover that was needed since he bought a case
Waited on hold for 20+ mins to get tire prices only for no one in the automotive department to answer. Called a 2nd time and after 10mins was finally able to talk to someone in electronics, ask to be transferred and back to waiting another 8-10mins and still not able to get tire prices.
Ordered my groceries through the pick up app, I picked my time slot and was waiting for my groceries. When my 4-5pm time came, I got a message that my time slot had expired. I also checked it before 4pm, just in case they might have got it done earlier, nothing. Now customer service is telling me I have to pick a new time slot for tomorrow. Not reliable.
I am African American. My family and I are visiting from out of state. My college age daughter was buying some make up. The self checkout attendant kept watching her during the entire time she was making her purchase. She even changed her location to watch her. I moved from where I was to stand next to my daughter to make sure she wasnt going to have an issue with the person. I would say that not all people are dishonest so dont act as if we deserve your suspicion. It may not matter, but youJust lost a customer!
Awful service. Employees are disrepectful, not helpful. Worst customer service care I have ever experienced. Bathrooms are always disgusting and unsanitary even after being cleaned. From managers to cashiers, they are all rude, and unprofessional and sometimes thieves. No employee cares about your situation they only care about checking off their to do list and going home. I will now be shopping somewhere else because of such awful service. What a pathetic Walmart if you ask me.
The tire store should get zero stars. I called ahead, and was on hold for 10 minutes. When I arrived, the technician told me they didnt have the tire I wanted. He pulled up the inventory and tried to sell me the same Goodrich tires I asked for. Then he told me they didnt have time to install them today, and I would have to come back tomorrow. They refused to take the keys, ora service order for the next day saying it was a liability issue. They wanted me to come back tomorrow to sign the service order. I told them that if I left, i was going someplace else, and they would loose the $500 sale. Nobody cared. What an inconvenience.
This is a older Walmart and when I was there it was crowded and very busy A little messy but I believe thats because of the volume of college students that were there at that time The parking area seemed small and cramped but I believe thats because they share their parking lot with other stores
Tonight at 10:40pm, while I was shopping for groceries, I and all the associates observed a college couple wandering the store with their pet puppy. This was a pet, not a registered service dog. To show that it wasnt a service dog, besides its obvious lack of training, was that while in the self-checkout registers on the grocery side, the female picked up her puppy and held it up to some children to pet and hug the puppy....all with a CSA watching, and she said nothing.Walmart has signs posted allowing for only actual registered service dogs, and yet the never say anything to anyone bring in their pets. Even the ones with fake service dog in training harnesses. While you cant ask what handicap one has, you can legal and should ask what the animal is trained for.Walmart, keep your stores clean...or does policies dont matter if the pet is cute?
I usually love this Walmart but today I asked for help finding something and was pointed n the wrong direction and then when someone finally helped me find it she was rude. At least I can say she walked me right up to it but with a pissy look on her face as if I was an inconvenience.
Absolutely hate this Walmart yah the new change is nice but ever since they have done this new change the employees have been nothing but rude and to get help in this store is pretty much a hassle to find someone . And not only that when I go to look for my oil they carry it online in 1 qaurt bottles but yet cant sell it in the store or get it in stores

2022-04-21Parked our camper here overnight. Very nice big lot. Very nice and quiet. And the Walmart is huge so if you need anything you can get it here. Just keep in mind in this area everything closes early Walmart closes at 11:00. Food places closes early also.

2022-03-13I havent been to Walmart in quite a while, however nothing has changed. It is a rip off more and more as time goes by. I dont enjoy the prices. Now and again you can score on a clearance deal or a rollback but you either have to time it just right, happen to get lucky, or shop there all the time. I just dont have the time or the patience for all that. Watch your receipt because they have a habit of ringing the product up for more than advertised. Not only false shelf price but also while using the scan tool on the app. If you watch closely and call them on it, they will fix it but if you wait until you get home then chances are you lost out on a few bucks. I bet they are banking on customers a few dollars at a time and thats unacceptable. Just seems a lot easier to shop on amazon, its usually comparable in price if not cheaper, a wider range of selection, and most times you can enjoy shopping from the comfort of your own home. No lines, no people, no hidden fees and that alone takes most of the hassle out of a painful shopping experience. I will have to note that while checking out, my cashier Emma, she was very kind and helpful to all the customers. She should get a bonus for putting in such effort because some of the employees are not as pleasant to be around. I would like to remind everyone its not the employees fault that walmart is a money hungry corporation so if you do find yourself ripped off dont be rude to the employees ( unless they deserve it) as they are there simply doing there job. The bone to pick is with the big dogs who cowardly hide behind these workers. Need I say anymore?.. Thank you and good luck....

2022-04-05I took my daughter to get a laptop for her to start her first year at college with. We found what she wanted right away but it took us approximately 20 minutes to get a key holder to try to find the laptop. Three other electronics employees joined in the search and I could hear them telling each other the wrong number to locate it. I tried to explain and show them that they had the wrong number but I was assured that I was wrong and they do this every day. After another half an hour they finally were able to locate a manager who did acknowledge they had been looking for the wrong laptop that entire time. It was on sale but they tried at first to charge us full price. Eventually we got the correct laptop with the correct amount but it took entirely too long.

2022-06-08This WOULD be a good Walmart, which I would reliably give my business every time, but they never, EVER, ever pick up their phone. I live halfway between Logan and Athens, and even though Logan is the farther of the two, I end up going there because their staff actually bothers telling me what is in stock before I waste the gas having to find out for myself.

2022-05-24I gave check out staff coupons and she didnt use them, this happens every time I go there. If Walmart doesnt want to accept coupons they need to let the public know, I can use my coupons else where. I had $7-$8 worth of coupons and the worst thing is they kept my coupons.

2022-05-19Nice clean store set up like all the other Wal-Marts that I go to. Subway was slow but available and convenient the staff at subway was excellent considering we stopped by with 2 tour busses full of teens

2022-03-17Out of something I’m looking for every time I go. Not sure if the employees are too lazy to stock or if management can’t seem to figure out they need to order more, but it’s been this way for as long as I can remember. Store is messy and things are thrown everywhere. Plus side is I’ve never had a bad experience with an employee, they try to help. But please for the love of god stock your store.

2022-06-04Stopped here to get some items we needed while we were on vacation. Very clean and organized Walmart, way bigger than the one we are used to shopping in.

2022-06-04The one complaint that I have is that the management doesnt have enough check outs open. And the other thing is the Walmart at Logan Ohio is better priced and the workers are friendly.

2022-01-10Besides the obvious, if you want help at this location to get into a locked cage or literally anything at all where a worker is not constantly required to be anyways, might as well go somewhere else as youd have better a better chance being struck by a flying ice cream truck since paging and calling every manager multiple times even when theyre not busy at all is futile.
