I ordered a Smith and Wesson gun called the Governor from an online gun store. In order for it to ship I had to make sure the store was an approved FFL dealer and to see what the fees are. I made a couple of calls and the people I called weren’t friendly, but when I called Vandalia Range and Armory everything changed. The person that answered was so nice and I had a lot of questions because I had never done and online purchase and didn’t know how things worked. He answered all my questions without irritation.( I wish I knew who I was speaking with) . My 5 stars are based on my first call because ,customer service began on that call. The day I picked up my gun as soon as I walked in someone asked if they could help me and everyone was so nice, Mike showed me some tricks about locking the gun . I definitely will use them again.
This is honestly one of the best shooting ranges I have ever been too. The staff are friendly, very helpful, and informational. Every time I go here I have a good time and bring new people back with me to share the positive experience. Overall no complaints a clean and good atmosphere to brush up on your firearm knowledge and skills. Also purchased a sling for my shotgun today and the staff took the time and explained how to install properly and actually installed it for me. Thank you guys !!
I loved Vandalia Range and Armory. The service was impeccable. Helpful, attentive, courteous, friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and still very safety-conscious. From the rental counter to the range, and back to the sales counter - every single person was all of these things. Above and beyond, even.
The digital range is great! Play a game using targets that are projected onto a paper target screen, and controlled by computer. Results of your shoot are sent to your email. No need to pay for targets, and you dont have to wait for a target to come to you, to change it out. The air exchange system works great. Its always comfortable, not too hot, or cold. The RSOs are friendly, Professional, and knowledgeable. The selection of holsters in the store is top notch, with many left-handed models available. Very good selection of guns, new and used. Ive been coming to VRA for several years. I definitely recommend this range and gun store.
My fiancé and I just completed the beginners gun training class at the Vandalia Range and Armory. We cannot express enough how exceptional, how educational and how enjoyable our experience was with this class.. and the icing on the cake... it was done with humor and non intimidation for us newbies! We want to thank these wonderful instructors and all the staff. They were all so passionate and helpful, never for a moment did they make you feel afraid to ask questions. We were recently at another range in the area where the atmosphere was the opposite, making us feel like we didn’t want to follow through with gun training and ownership. So glad we gave this place a try... you will not be sorry. The experience was PRICELESS! Just signed up for the CCH class and CANT WAIT!Thank you everyone at Vandalia Range and Armory. Just know how much you’re appreciated... especially from someone just learning about guns. We now look forward to our newfound hobby!!!!Sincerely, Tracy Murphy and Jeff Krodel, Vandalia residents
Best armory in the Dayton area, no others can compare. Range is excellent as well. Their CCW classes are taught brilliantly and their teachers are the most knowledgeable I have ever seen. The kind and skilled staff are the best I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in Ohio.
The range is great and the people working them are usually laid back and very personable. The selection and price of firearms is also hard to beat in the area. If you’re looking for an honest staff that knows their stuff and wants you to be satisfied, look no further.
My husband I went for the first time today. We enjoyed it very much. The staff was friendly and the computerized range system is great! You can choose from a large number of “games “ to shoot at. They had a corrective target that will give you feed back as to what the problem is if you are not hitting in the center. The range monitors were helpful and and even gave me some instructions as to proper stance and form to help me shoot better. We will definitely be a return customer. Talked to the owner after we were done and he asked for feed back on their range and was very friendly. We also traded in a weapon the we had brought and shot for the first time and did not like and bought a new gun.
This range is very clean and professionally run. The range officers are alert, and very helpful if you have a problem or just need help. A wide variety of pistols, revolvers and long barrel guns are there, plus a verity of ammo for about every need, and at least average prices and knowledgeable sales people, who are I think on salary, so no high pressure sales here !
Overall an excellent place to go whether youre new to firearms or experienced. The range masters are not only attentive to the things going on around them, they are also very friendly and willing to help if need be. Both the Range and Retail side of things are well kept, clean and welcoming.Moving further into this, the Range is very clean and has updated technology thats far superior and safer than other local ranges for those worried about it. As far as the retail side goes I couldnt complain either. The prices are great, the staff is helpful and the selection is vast as well. While all the staff were very helpful and attentive, Id like to specifically mention a young man by the name of Alex. He took the time to reassure on my decisions for a firearm and also assisted withSeveral other questions.Once again, if youre looking for a clean and welcoming firing range/firearm retail store, Id HIGHLY recommend Vandalia Range and Amory for anyone.
Friendly staff, clean range and large selection. I bought a gun case after looking at several different ones and when I got home I realized I had grabbed the single case, instead of the two gun case. Brought it back and swapped it out without an issue. The staff also dropped what they were doing as I walked in to make sure I was able to get what I needed. Very impressed with them. I will be back.
A great place for all your firearms needs. It is very family oriented and friendly. This shop offers the best selection in the Dayton area. When you walk in the door you are immediately greeted and asked if you need help with anything. They store is always clean and items are brightly lit for viewing. The range is one of the best in the state and open pretty much year round. It is also good to note they are now stocking NFA items, such as suppressors, for those needing a knowledgeable staff for your next transfer.
I really enjoyed this range and Gun Shop. Their prices are decent but their employees are always polite informed and extremely helpful. They know their stuff. And if the particular employee youre speaking to does not know the answer generally speaking he can get you in contact with another employee who does. Every experience Ive had at this location has been a good one.
Overall, the experience was amazing. Once I walked in, I could see they had an abundant staff and they were all very experienced. I was asked for an ID and was accompanied by an instructor since I was a first-time shooter. The instructor was consistently watching shooters to catch any mistakes (this could literally save lives). The only issue I had was the price. I paid around $58 for one hour with a Glock 19 and a box of 50 rounds. I can think of several other shooting ranges that charge half the price of this. In conclusion, its a wonderful shop with very friendly staff.
Absolutely an awesome experience. I was in Dayton for some training and decided to get a night of shooting in with a classmate, and boy am I glad that we went. Sign in was quick, easy and painless. Range safety is obviously a priority without being intrusive at all. CLEAN, well lighted facility. Staff was awesome, prices VERY reasonable. All sorts of firearms are for sale, all prices, all styles, with a massive inventory. If you are the area, you owe it to yourself to visit them.
Stopped in yesterday, very friendly, knowledgeable staff several present and past military. Everyone you can tell enjoys working there, it makes for a great customer experience. Huge selection of new and used guns with good prices. Definitely will be my go to place.I liked it so much, i was thinking of asking if they were hiring! 😁 CZ dealer BIG+
Whenever I want to buy a firearm I either go here or have it shipped from another FFL to here. Attentive Staff, very helpful to me on every gun I have purchased here so far. The older gentleman, Mike, and I generally talk to one another every time I am there whether its to shoot at the range or to buy something or even sometimes when I am there just looking around. He also shares an enthusiasm for C&R firearms which I particularly enjoy. Definitely someplace Id recommend anyone to go regardless if theyve never picked up a firearm or have a small arsenal at home!
I feel compelled to give my opinion on my several visits. I have been there a few times to purchase and even more just to window shop and shoot the s**t. Every experience Ive had has been positive. The staff has always been friendly and very knowledgeable. Theyve been friendly even when they knew I wasnt buying. Havent been to the range I have land to shoot at so I cant comment on that. Their prices are a little high but not hight enough for me to shop elsewhere. But good knowledge and a welcoming environment is priceless. If you are in the market for a gun or knowledge definitely give these guys a try.
Their service is excellent, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their selection is very good and their prices are good too.The range is decent, although the physical barriers between stalls are not bulletproof steel, but just noise blocking plastic. So be sure the person next to you knows which way to aim!The range officers are also very helpful. All things considered, VRA is one of the best stores and ranges in the Dayton area.Just know their price on ammo for rentals is outrageous. $17.50 for a box of 9mm Blazer Brass, which can usually be found for $11 in stores. Other ranges are usually $14 which is already steep, but VRA definitely costs. Their rental selection is great but Point Blank and Fox Loft have better overall rental programs.
Over All, A great place to take friends and family to shoot or for training. Took my CCH class here and really enjoyed the Contracted Staff that hosted. The Chief Range Officer is knowledgeable and will help you if you ask, and will definitely tell you if you’re doing something wrong.( A solid person to be in charge of the range). Had one minor issue but was taken care of by the owning family. All in all, it’s a great place to go have a fun and safe time shooting as well as taking classes they offer for certifications or safety.
For the past two years, my shooting family has met at the Vandalia VRA almost exclusively. We all, for the most part, are experienced long time shooters. We find the range officers to be professional, knowledgeable, friendly and most important, always present. In my 40 plus years of shooting, I can say VRA is one of the safest and cleanest commercial ranges I have ever used. Also, I must point out that the range rental staff are friendly and always make us feel welcome. Please keep up the good work and a special thank you to Jan, Dave, Jeremy, Eddie and Steve.
Personally I prefer outdoor ranges however Vandalia Range & Armory has a very safe and modern environment. Ive purchased several firearms from them. their sales team are professional, informative, and dont get pushy in the sales process. The classes they offer are great.
My friend and I visited VRA last night and it was one of the top indoor facilities that Ive ever shot at. Ive shot competitively for over 15 years and visited most of the nations top ranges. The staff, prices, and selection of guns/equipment were excellent. The range officers were vigilant but not over whelming. The range (pistol) was climate controlled, well lit, and easy to use. The rules were extremely accommodating to shooters of all skill levels and there were no unnecessary rules/regulations that are commonly found at ranges. At no time did I feel unsafe due to other shooters on the line. At no time did I feel intimidated by the staff or other patrons. They provide FREE ear and eye protection, FREE tape to hang targets, FREE target frame hangers, and provide a wide variety of targets at VERY reasonable prices. I truly cant say enough good things about this range and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to shoot, learn to shoot, or experience a wide variety of firearm exposure.
I have been to the shop a few times before. The first time I came with my wife and was treated very well. The next couple of times I came by myself and the shop was relatively empty and not one person asked if I needed any help. In fact most of them avoid any eye contact with me all together. Well even with all that I heard the range was great so I took my father in law out here to fire off a few rounds with the AR which was also the first time I had used the range. Right off the bat the older lady behind the counter was very rude and talk to us as if our business was not welcome. Her ton and overall attitude made us feel very rushed the only thing she didnt do was throw the paperwork at us. We filled out the proper paper work and she asked a gentleman if he could keep watch while we shot for 30 mins. Which he stated was not problem. The Rifle range is pretty nice especially if you are trying to zero in your rifle. Afterwords my father in law who is from Alabama had some questions about some holsters and when he asked someone the reaction from the employee was once again in a matter as if he was bothering him. So all in all The facility is very nice the service and customer support to my experience is terrible. I will never come back to this Range and Armory.
Visiting from out of town, my brother-in-law and I each Christmas holiday, enjoy a shooting session for an hour or so. This was our first visit to VRA in a few years and were immediately pleased with the expansion and improvements in the range facility. Staff were busy but very friendly and went out of their way to explain the range check-in procedure (automated & easy to use) to the range director who explained the automated target system. No more tape cardboard and paper targets! One of our best indoor range shooting experiences in the Dayton area. We’ll be back next year! Thank you VRA for an enjoyable hour of shooting. G. Kuhlman
Ive had a few good experiences here in the past. I bought my 11 year old his first gun, a Ruger 10/22 here, him and I have been shooting here twice. Those three visits went well.Last week, I stopped in to purchase another 10/22 for my other son who has just turned 12. While I was there, before looking for the 10/22, I decided to ask about some parts for my AR build. When I was able to finally get the attention of an employee, I asked if they sold bolt carrier groups or BCGs. He said they dont sell AR parts like that and told me there are too many parts to stock. Thats fine, I understand that the inventory could be overwhelming and the fact they didnt carry such parts isnt a concern to me. What bothered me though was after he apparently dug so deep for those 2 sentences, he then just walked away without another word. I was ready to buy another rifle, a scope and ammunition for my son. I also needed to buy a holster for another gun. I went around the corner and was treated much better. Vandalia Range is now off of my list, which is a shame as I like to shop local but thankfully there are plenty of other options for gun related purchases in our area.Ive changed the review to 5 stars following the level of commitment to service I received after my review. A lot of follow-up and research went in to Alexs response and he even looked me up on LinkedIn to ensure happiness.
This place is always packed full and I can see why after visiting here! They have a huge selection of hand guns and long guns and one of the largest selections of suppressors that are in stock. The range usually has a small wait but its worth it. Ive been to lots on indoor ranges and this one has really nice controls for moving the targets back and is divided up so that there seems to be less people than there really are on the range. The rifle range is small with only 4 lanes but for an indoor 100 yard range, its good. On this range they even have a screen with a digital target on it that shows where your shot was placed! After all of this, I was able to put a suppressor on transfer using the e-file as well. I will be returning to this store soon!
Got my CCW training here... excellent class and the instructors are top notch. Pistol range is great! Wish I lived closer. Doc helped me during the shooting exercises and was very helpful. (What do you expect from a retired Swat medic?) Sales staff and RSOs are very nice and helpful. Much more so than Vance outdoors. This place is worth the drive out to even if you dont live close by.
I have been to VRA a number of times over the past year to shop, shoot, and handle NFA transfers and purchases. I recently took a friend there to try and pick out his first handgun. When we arrived, a salesman (Mike) greeted us almost immediately. I told him that we were just trying to get an idea of what type of handgun my friend may be interested in and that we would not be purchasing it today. To my surprise he was more than happy to talk to us and help figure out what features we were interested in even though he knew there was no chance of sale. Mike spent the next hour pulling out dozens of handguns for us to look at. He listened and provided advise while not being overbearing nor did he try and push a particular firearm on us. On many occasions he even suggested firearms that were well below our stated budget. Having previously had horrible shopping experiences in other gun shops, I greatly appreciated his assistance and lack of continual sales pitch. After we narrowed down our selection, we proceed to the range to rent a few of the ones we liked. The lady at the counter was very nice and helped us get everything we needed. Once on the range, the RO explained the range rules clearly. We got our targets set up and started shooting. The RO was personable and obvious very knowledge, but not overbearing or disruptive to our experience. He offered opinions on the guns we had chosen but he only did that while we were loading mags or waiting for the other to finish shooting. All in all, the range session was quite enjoyable.VRA is one of the best gun shops in the area. Not only do they have a wide selection of firearms but the staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are decent and the entire facility is kept quite clean. I have been shopping at local gun stores for years now but the VRA experience blows all the others out of the water.
Overpriced for the range. Suggest going to the next closest range Miami Valley Shooting Grounds. Staff isn’t the greatest and short with some family that was lacking much firearm knowledge when they visited. Not what I expected for them when I sent them there. I’d suggest Miami Valley Shooting Grounds, friendlier staff and owners, all around a better place to visit and shoot. Will send family/friends there from this point on.
I saw a lots of comments telling that the staff in store are rude. I was skeptical getting into the store because of such comments. Thats partly true, most of them I met were extremely good, while there was one who was not. I was there to just get the experience of shooting guns. I have never held a gun in my life. There were 3 people I met in the store. 1 guy at the store, an old lady at the rental section and then the third guy in the firing range. I need to tell that the guy on the firing range was awesomely helpful and understanding. He was helping me out every way possible. If this guy wansnt around my rating would been 1 star. The other guy at the counter of the store was good too. But the old lady at the gun rental section was whining, not the kind of person whom you want to meet, getting to a gun store for the first time.Maybe if you are an experienced gunner, this place might be ok.
I found the staff to be exceptional here! They were all friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. the facility was clean and organized. I am from out of town and unfortunately did not have time to check out the pistol range but will definitely make sure this is one of my stops next time I am back in the area! Definitely one of the top 3 facilities in the state!
I enjoy the shop, its very clean and kept up. The prices are fair and the staff out front has always been helpful. The problem I have is on the range. I understand the range boss is there to keep everyone safe, but on more than a few occasions, one or more of them have to bother you with advice on how to shoot or yell at you for carrying your gun back to your case - even when it is clearly unloaded, pointed in the air and you are obviously paying attention. I know how to shoot and have been for many years. I dont appreciate the range bosses that feel the need to beat me over the head with their presence. I now shoot elsewhere.
I am new to the gun scene, the staff was very helpful and polite with any questions I had. Now that I have picked a pistol that I want and am learning with it the guys in the range room are more than welcome to share there knowledge of how you should shoot and are very informative on everything there is to know about it and willing to assist and share the INFO! A BIG THANK YOU TO VRA FOR BEING HELPFUL AND POLITE TO MY SITUATION! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND VRA OH TO ANYONE!!!!! This is the place to go not just for the staff but products and the range very reasonable cost!
Just got back from going with my brother-in-law who is a brand new inexperienced shooter. Jeremy, the range safety officer, was very patient, helpful and was able to put my brother-in-law feel at ease. He carefully went over the range safety rules as well as shooting techniques. I also learned a few things myself. He even took the time to show us how to disassemble the Taurus PT-92 we brought since he had experience with the Beretta model while serving in the Marines. This was an excellent experience for a new shooter thanks to Jeremy.Vandalia Range and Armory is a very clean modern range and I highly recommend it.
Didnt take pictures but this place was pretty great. Paid for my time, had a trainer give me pointers. Im trained on military tactics so the trainer helped me with the civilian adjustments. Very knowledgeable staff. Offers CCW training, as long as enough people sign up and there are still openings.
Your chances of dying will increase significantly if you go here.1. We walked in and it was a complete mess. No instructions on where to sign in for range time, what documents needed to be filled out, how to proceed before waiting in line (yes, there was a wait) and how the range functioned.***We waited 15 minutes to find out we werent even on a waiting list because we hadnt paid yet. When we initially submitted our forms, no one mentioned we needed to pay up front first to get in line.2. The man who gave us our safety class pointed my own weapon at my face (accidentally) when asking if he could use my weapon for instruction.3. You use tape to hold up your targets and the device to send targets up and down range is a phone pad.4. The place was disgusting. As a veteran, I was pretty surprised as to how expensive it was. We normally shoot at Point Blank in Cincinnati because we live there. We happened to be in town and this was the only place open and we were very disappointed. We pay less at Point Blank, get way better service, and shoot in a much safer environment.
I usually dont have a problem with this range, however, our most recent visit will more than likely be the last.Upon arriving prices were decent and the staff was helpful. That was until we went into the handgun range itself. After firing a few shots one of the RSOs decided to take it upon himself to walk up to our lane while we are loading, picks up our own personal firearm and fondle it. Not saying a word to us, just picking up our firearm moving it around only to put it back down and walk away like it never happened. You do not pick up another visitors personal firearm without asking. We will not be back.
I gave a 1/3 not because the staff is bad, quite the opposite, they are great; that fact remains, $18/hr on a range is absolutely outrageous. I dont care..., I have been shooting for years and have been to ranges all up and down the east coast. Their facility is fantastic but no facility is worth 18/hr. On average I pay 15/day! To me this is robbery. I will not ever shoot her because of that price. I am a military trained marksman and I take my time when plinking at the range. I would feel rushed here. Great shop guys honestly! But that range cost is way out of proportion regardless of supply and demand.
I was in town for a couple of days and I wanted to find a place to go and shoot ,after reading many reviews about this location I decided to give it a try. I am glad I stopped in the location was very clean very well-maintained all of the staff that was on duty was very helpful and answered any questions I had. The range itself was pretty bad ass as I have never shot in a range the way it is in this location. I would highly recommend this place to anyone from the area or from out of town that is in the mood to go do some shooting if I am ever in the area again I will definitely stop on in
As somewhat of a firearms collector I tend to visit approximately 10 different gun shops in the area, and VRA is the best by far. When shopping for a firearm, if I shop around enough I could save a few dollars at other gun stores in town, but Id rather spend a few dollars more and support folks that are friendly and remember you when you walk through the door. Not to mention, they have an outstanding selection and have obviously invested quite a bit into providing a full service gun shop that will be around for years to come. As a small business owner myself, I am intimately familiar with the cost of inventory that sits around hoping someone will come and buy it, and the folks at VRA try to have just about everything you can possibly want, and if they dont have it they can get it in a timely fashion. Ill look elsewhere, but when it comes time to buy I generally come here.
This shop is a decent place. The range however, is not a place I enjoy. Ive lived in Fl and KY, and Ive never had to pay more than 15 dollars for an entire day of shooting. I also bought a .223 pistol there, and they dont allow necked down cartridges on the pistol range, and no pistols on the rifle range, so I couldnt even shoot what I bought there. the rifle range is an underground tunnel, and you have to be on paper in three shots or you cant continue, with no way to move the target closer for sighting. Just plain idiotic range rules and fees.
If zero stars were an option, I would have opted to choose that, however the women working the counter were super friendly so I’ll give credit where it’s due.I, hands down, had the worst experience of any range I’ve ever been to at this particular location today. So much so that I made the decision to write a negative review (and I never leave reviews). Honestly, if there were more that I could do, I certainly would.Firearms are a very big part of my life, I love them, I own many, I USED to shoot frequently up until last year when I had a very tragic, traumatic experience that left me unsure of anyone else handling firearms around me and I decided to take a break. My long time best friend has since encouraged me to try to get back in the range, as perhaps a final step in my recovery process and after much persuasion I found that it was time to face my fears and go.I have been to several ranges, I used to live by Point Blank in Miamisburg and I’m partial to the staff there, however this range is now closer to me and my friend has been there several times, he expressed how much he liked it and I decided to give it a go.My anxiety was high today, going back to a range after being shot, bullet still lodged in my shoulder, was no easy task for me. I was quite certain I may vomit in the parking lot, but I still forced myself to go in.Again, the ladies behind the counter were friendly and inviting. The range officer. NOT AT ALL.He was rude from the beginning. It was my friend, my daughter and myself. We paid for our lanes, and walked to the door to put on our gear and the RO walked out and stared with such an attitude that my daughter asked me who that man was and if he was okay.. My friend had walked back to the counter to switch our time in the pistol lane from an hour to a half hour so that we could then do a half hour at the rifle range.Immediately the RO asked in a such a nasty manner if I had the lane ticket, to which I explained that my friend had it around the corner. As my friend was walking back, the RO stopped him and asked for the tickets and told my friend in the most unwelcoming way to put his glasses on, mind you, he was coming from the counter, had no time to even make it back to his range back, the RO then proceeds to walk through the door and I told my friend, then, that I would rather leave and go to point blank. Obviously the RO has no idea the battle I’m fighting just being there, but it was completely unnecessary to be that rude regardless. My friend asked me to just give this place a shot, no pun intended, and reluctantly I go inside. The RO is already sitting there and his annoyance of us, for no apparent reason, radiated. He was rude in telling us not to mess with firearms at the table, rather inside the range, and I get it, safety first. It wasn’t what he was saying, rather how he was saying it. My daughter was uncomfortable, she no longer wanted to shoot, but I calmed her down. I had never been to this range before or used the digital targets, and the RO was at least halfway nice in explaining that, but then hovered over my friend nearly the entire time, and at one point even asked him “where did you get this piece of shit” as he had trouble pulling the slide back on his freshly cerakoted Kahr cm40. I was floored. And over it.I’ve never in my life experienced such terrible customer service. Granted the RO may not be obligated to be friendly, more so focused on safety but come on, the way this particular gentleman acted was absurd.I’m not even sure my paragraph could accurately detail the way this man made me feel.Towards the end, another RO came in and this man was very friendly, much like the ladies at the front. Had he have been our RO I’m not sure I would have had such an issue..30 minutes in the range was far too much for me and I was adamant that we not shoot the rifles we had brought at this location and instead traveled down to Miamisburg and went to point blank.Overall I will never visit this range again on the off chance that I have to be paired up with the same RO.
I believe I picked the worst place in Dayton to do my CCW. This set of instructors appeared to be deliberately trying to cover the material in the most uncomfortable way possible. This course only covered about 1hr worth of content, but by law it had to be stretched to fill 6hrs. These instructors chose to do that by putting on painfully unfunny forced comedy sketches. (One instructor pretended to get mad, for 45 minutes, about someone inserting comics into her slide deck. Another bit, about 2 instructors getting married because they were drunk, was repeated 3 times. Do you know why bad guys hold their guns sideways? Because thats how they come out of the box. I could go on - I started writing them down to pass the time.) For some reason that I dont understand, this course had no breaks other than lunch and range time. They didnt show a single gun accident video during the safe-handling presentation, or any videos during the course for that matter. The few real-life scenarios they discussed were all centered on friends of the instructors - neither interesting nor instructional. I take a lot of safety courses as part of my job, and Ive never seen anyone botch it this badly. I left legitimately surprised at how far below my very low expectations this fell.
We have been shopping here for years and have always gotten exactly what we want. Alex, Brock and the rest of the crew are helpful, friendly and give us great service. If they dont have what I need in stock they promptly order it or source it and give very timely follow-up phone calls or emails. The range is clean and easy to use and has good air flow. Highly recommended on all regards.
Lady at the counter was nice, range officer kept staring at me then said go thru that door and grabbed my receipt out of my hand which I guess was the ticket to hand him. He did not ask he just grabbed it. I thought that was pretty rude. Then when I left he asked for a shot count. Apparently you have to count your shots and let him know which seems silly Ive never heard of that at any other range. I think the guys name was Jeff or john.
If I could rate VRA with more than 5 stars -- I would! When I first learned of VRA through a friend of mine, I did not know what to expect. I had several questions before and during my purchase and it is only because of Mr. Alex Hague that I felt extremely, very confident in each step of my purchase.Alex went above and beyond the call of customer service every single step of the way. I truly feel like a valued customer of VRA. If you are a first time gun buyer or if you are a frequent visitor and have questions, I strongly encourage you to speak to Alex. You will not be disappointed. In addition, the store is kept very clean, neat and organized. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.I am very much excited and looking forward to my new handgun. Thank you so very much Alex for helping me along each step of the purchase process.
Since there is not a decent gun store in my are I always go to vandalia range and armory for my firearm needs. Over the last couple years this is where i purchase all of my things. They have been very helpful in getting me set up with the paper work i need in the things i am after. NFA paper work was a new thing to me and they made it very easy to make this happen. They are always willing to help and answer questions. They have the firearms that I am interested in. best selection of tactical handguns and rifles around. Last selection for suppressors and willing to help you fill out the paper work and answer any questions you may have. Very friendly staff that are always willing to help and hold friendly conversations when time allows.
Great place to sight in at 100yrds. Range master helped my buddy sight his Ar 556 new eotech sight and helped me with my iron sights very helpful worth the money just for the help he gave us. The targets have a screen you watch and lets you know where you hit and keeps it marked untill you clear it with a push of a button. Very nice for sighting in.
My 5 star rating comes from being a customer of 3 years and I wanted to share some of my experiences as well as comment on some of the recent negative ratings.I was newbie on guns other than my Grandfathers shot gun and some trap shooting and during my first visit to VRA I was overwhelmed to say the least. The selection of fire arms and fast pace of people coming in and out made my decision even harder but they were very patient and helpful.Have I ever had to wait longer than I think I should have, sure. Has any of the staff been disrespectful, never. Have I ever seen some staff not having a smile on their face, sure they are people too. I know when you walk in your expectations are high, you want the best service, all of your questions answered and if we dont get that we are not happy, its natural. Im not saying you didnt have a experience nor do I think they dispute what you are saying, but they want to fix it.Do me a favor, before you pass final judgment look at how they respond to any negative experience, it should tell you that they care. I dont care if you post it on Goggle or Facebook, look at their responses. Keep in mind, they dont have a HR department or someone thats assigned to the social media department, its the family responding. Then tell me how the people at Cabelas, Gander Mountain would respond to anything negative. There are not that many family owned gun stores around that truly care about your experience. Its how they respond to the problems, that should tell you, you should go back.Sorry for the long review but I feel I have to express my experiences at VRA too in hopes that people see that the owners really care about your experience and its not just about selling guns.
I live in Columbus area so I dont get out to them very often but Ill make the nearly 2 hour ride to VRA. This shop is in my opinion is the best merchandise presentation, inventory selection and friendliness staff in all of Ohio! Ive been to almost every gun shop from Cleveland to Cincinnati.
Horrible experience! My wife and I had never shot a gun before and wanted to become educated and shoot different caliber weapons before purchasing any for our own home and protection. We explained that we had never used a firearm before. One lady helped us but seemed annoyed because we didnt know what type of gun to pick and didnt help at all in any recommendations. Then there were 3 other guys behind a different counter that laughed and made jokes because we didnt know what we were doing. They wouldnt stop staring at us and laughing which made us feel very uncomfortable and we should have lef then. Once we got in the range we told the guy we had never shot a gun and he pretty much left us to figure it out, until he saw us obviously confused and lost and then decided to help. As soon as we were done we left as quickly as possible even though I was hoping to get some help to explain more and some recommendations on carry conceal type of gun to buy for the both of us. This might be a good place if you are experienced, but for beginners the staff is highly unprofessional and not willing to take the time to welcome new folks into the gun community.
Been going to VRA for years and have always had a good experience. Its over an hour drive, but worth it. There are plenty of local gun stores in my area, but none can compete with the selection that VRA has. What sets VRA apart from every other gun store is the people who work there, they are not just some friend of a friend who kind of knows something about guns so he got the job, they offer real knowledge of guns that most stores can not even come close to. The reason for the great service Is the facts its their business, its the families business, they dont just work there, its actually theirs unlike so many other places. You can buy a gun, ammo or accessories from many online places, but if you have a question, need some help, that place wont be able to come close to what VRA offers. VRA has earned my business because of not only how they treated me as a customer, but how they treated my sons as well. Yes there are other gun stores that have recently opened in the Cincinnati area, but none can compete with the service that I get at VRA. Darryl D.
Did not see anything and may have overlooked it if it was posted, but drove down from Sidney to use rifle range only to find it was not open. Sign on the door. I usually look at this page before driving down just to see if anything is going on. Just a suggestion.Other than that, I think this is a great place to shoot. Friendly staff.
Fantastic staff an its always a joy to go in. Recently picked up a 92fs for a very good deal an couldnt pass it up. Went in today looking to order a few things an the young lady went an grabbed a gentalman who knew his stuff for the Ar platform needless to say Im about to see if they need a helper seems how I just put another rifle on layaway. Thanks again guys.
I was originally a little leary of this place thinking that it would be over price and a typical I know exactly what you need kind of place. However the employees are extremely helpful especially since most are interested in personal protection. Regarding their prices, probably a little higher than most of you typical box stores, but you get great advice with a bullet! :)
Dont go here unless you want to buy a TON of stuff... because they have it ALL! The only thing i hate about this place is how much my wife yells at me every time i come back with a new gun or suppressor. If you like cans, this is the place: the best silencer selection around and very helpful staff who will help you through the pain-in-the-ass process, making it far less of a pain-in-the-ass.
Vra is the best gun facility that Ive been to. Alex and the rest of the staff are very friendly and go out of there way to answer any questions or do anything they can to help. I have been to just about all the gun stores in the area, and let me tell you no body else comes close.I ordered a gun around christmas time and, went to a lot of different stores no one had what I was looking for. Two other shops nearby told me they could get it for me one couldnt give me a time line and the other said right at a month, Vra had it in 2 days and at the same price.I have recently looked at some NFA items and didnt really know how to go about purchasing them, Alex and the gang explained everything and made the paper work easy.I plan to make all my future purchases at Vra.
Salesman(Matt) was demonstrating assembly of my piston on my suppressor when he noticed that the piston I purchased new, was not the piston identified on the package & suggested I call the factory. I made the call & factory rep. mailed the replacement part immediately. Good looking out Matt. THANKS
First time i came i had so much fun... i brought my huband here becuase he really wanted to come to the range since ive joined the military. The 2nd time i came... treated like a criminal. They were hovering around me and talking to me like a child. Very rude. Wont be be returning. Its a shame... my huband liked the idea of shooting on the weekends. Ill have to find another place
Walked in and was immediately greeted and helped. As I was waiting on my Nics check to finish I walked around the store and was asked by multiple other staff members if I needed help. Was made to feel very welcome and treated great. couldnt have asked for a more helpful/honest/welcoming place to go to.
VRA has an wide selection of firearms for the modern shooter. VRA also has 2 indoor pistol and a rifle range. The ranges are fully supervised with both cameras and safety officers. The officers confirm that the shooter has a basic understanding of range safety prior to shooting. VRA offers on-going classes for CCW; basic and advanced shooting techniques; and firearm law updates. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.
Great place to go shooting range great staff very noligable will help you anyway they can and Ed does a great job helping and as far as price of there products yes you can find them a little cheaper but come on guys dont complain about that support them after all its pretty cheap to use range how do you expect that range stay in businesses if you dont support it what we pay to use range wont keep it running so help support them big deal if its a few buxs more
Normally I would rate this business as 4 stars or better but after the experience I had today between the owner doing and saying one thing to correct an issue and another person doing the opposite I give it a 1. Left in the middle of my range time due to the negative experience!
Great place to shoot!Always their to answer questions.Range officers are great about tips and showing you things free of charge.(Happens everytime I am their) complaint is Why do you guys have to bunch everybody together?Especially if it isnt busy?It isnt enjoyable when im trying to focus my aim and I have shells from next door falling all over me.Kind of defeats the purpose. Why not space out the people shooting if you can.Just a thought other than that you guys are awesome keep it up!
I had a very pleasant visit for a first timer and Brennan (i hope I spelled that right bro) did a excellent job putting me at ease with his knowledge and laid back attitude made me feel like I was with good friends shooting the breeze no pun intended lol but thank you so much Brennen I will be back to purchase another firearm from you and your right the addiction has already started lol
Tje lady at the gunrange counter was great asking any questions ro anyone else anything else i might as well have a dick on my forehead no one has any idea what a 7.62x25 tok is whether its a pistol or rifle round the range safety guys try to give their input on how to load my guns .... rather stick a wey noodle in a bobcats ass then go back
FIRST EXPERIENCE IN A GUN RANGE FOR MY 19 YR OLD AND I ( born and raised in Chicago).....WE WERE HONORED TO HAVE FOUND THIS BUSINESS.......This place could of been a corner diner, or a grocery store.......the staff was kind and courteous......laughing with each other,bs back and fourth.....sweet lady behind the counter with a young man who was very helpful...at the door there was a big tall dude, maybe there security , ironically he was soft spoken and respectful.....he was security...everyone was security....there were hundreds of guns in clean display cases....everything was clean.....they literally walked us thru everything.....first we filled out some waivers and they checked our information thru a gov database to make sure we were legally able to shot guns....VERY PROFESSIONAL.....then we choose the weapon to shoot first with baby steps in mind ....it was obvious we were rookies......once we went to the range,we were given a lesson what to do and MORE IMPORTANTLY what not to do.....THIS IS NO GAME AND THEY REMIND YOU......ITS ALLOT OF COMMON SENSE, BUT PEOPLE MAKE ALLOT OF MISTAKES ......there was an older gentleman there who helped us at the range once we had our guns.... because he was a TRUE PROFESSIONAL, and we listened carefully, my son and i were loading/unloading /shooting 9mm hand guns and a 12gauge shot gun for the first time in a matter of 10minutes,with professionals around you at all times.......I had a eye opening experience with my son.....2nd amd rights should be protected...starting my classes soon for conceal and carry.................if your ever driving thru ohio...to /from cinn and Cleveland.....if you want to meet some cool people , practice in a safe, clean environment for all , and maybe learn a thing or two about respect for life and the right to protect your family and loved ones then go to this place......WE WERE LUCKY TO BE THERE!!!!!!!!
I went there with my rifle to get them to sight it in and paid them for 40 rounds to use and paid them to sight it in and they went through all but 4 rounds and still didnt get it sighted in and charged me full price for what they did they said it was the gun that it was inaccurate and could not be done I went to Miami valley shooting grounds and I got the scope hitting zero in 10 minutes I will never trust vandalia to do any gun work ever again thanks for nothing waist of time

2022-04-03First time at the range and first time shooting my pistol .. even though I had done a ton of reading before my purchase, and knew a lot of what he told me, Kyle (I might be wrong on his name) was very helpful in explaining my weapon to me, made me feel very comfortable while he was explaining.. everyone was very helpful before and during shooting! 10/10 recommend, no one said a single word to make me uncomfortable in asking questions and they didn’t make me feel like I was asking stupid questions, we will be going back! Thank you to all the staff! You’re all great! Keep doing what you’re doing! Almost forgot .. Jim our range safety officer was mindful of my husband possibly wanting to show me and made sure it was ok that he stepped in to give me the tips and pointers! He was also very helpful and kind and made me feel very comfortable as well!

2022-05-28I love the (regular) CCW class and the teachers. They are extremely knowledgable and even funny while still having and demonstrating great respect for the weapons. The people who work here are very nice and always ready to share their knowledge. They welcome ALL people, and treat you with respect. Theyll throw you out if you act like a Fool, which I love about them.I appreciate and respect this place and the people who work here. Very happy to have found this place! A special thank you to the owner for carefully picking the right people to work here.

2022-03-29I purchased a handgun online and had it shipped to Vandalia Range and Armory . They called to let me know it had arrived less than one hour after ups dropped it there. They were also extremely friendly and helpful throughout the ffl process. Thanks so much!

2022-06-12I took my daughter this past weekend and it was such a great experience. She is a new shooter and everyone was so helpful and attentive in the range. My first time going and I’ll never go anywhere else again!

2022-05-24Gun side is decent, limited selection and typically higher prices than everyone else in the area by a noticeable margin. Friendly staff at least.Range side is terrible, fine to poke some paper quick (if youre stuck with no other options) but otherwise do NOT recommend if youre actually looking to target shoot or dial in new weapons. RSO staff is NOT shooter friendly, Ive ended more than one lane pass session early due to bad RSO here . New shooters especially beware, Ive personally witnessed how theyre treated here on multiple occasions. One RSO (rifle range) went as far as to make a laughing stock out of a poor kid who shot a lane bag on accident because he had no idea what he was doing. Instead of guiding him or teaching him he publicly berated him and then proceeded to walk around the entire building telling everyone what he did and cracking more jokes. Wildly unacceptable behavior displayed, I will not spend my money here again.

2022-01-09Started coming here about 6 months ago when I bought my first gun, and I love this place. The employees dont scoff at any questions I may have and I actually feel welcome here. I also purchased a rifle from the internet and had it shipped here recently. The process was seemless and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. Overall, after many visits within these past 6+ months, I can truly say this place is awesome.

2022-07-05Only because it wasnt worth the money. Went here with my nephew and brother, we thought a quick 30min shoot out will be enough for mainly my nephew but what we didnt like was from the time you pay to the time it takes you to walk to your lane your clock has already started meaning we only had bout 25min or less to shoot?! like whats the point of paying for 30min if your not actually getting 30min🤷♀️ Go to Springfield were you get what your paying for, a full 30min or whatever, js

2022-06-19Range prices are priced nicely and have used their range multiple times it’s nice to have a decent range to shoot at in the winter, but on my last visit went to the range to shoot on the 100 yard indoor range. Apparently according to an employee the owner believes that AKs are so inaccurate you can’t use iron sights at 100 yards and must use a magnified optic, so I had to leave. Owner apparently knows nothing about AKs considering they’re 2.5 MOA guns and a lot of people myself included have had no issue ringing chest sized steel out to 500 yards with IRON sights. If it was an issue with steel core ammunition or whatever I’d understand the concern, but claiming a firearm is that inaccurate shows ignorance. I shoot all types of rifles including precision long range mile shoots with 6.5CM and .338 lapua, so I’m no stranger to the accuracy of firearms and cartridges. The conception that an optic makes a gun more accurate is the dumbest policy I’ve ever heard in my life. Just for comparison the employee claimed that ARs are vastly more accurate as well, and while they are more accurate most budget ARs out of the box are 1.5 MOA at best unless you’re buying higher tier AR like a DD or shooting a krieger barrel etc.

2022-03-23Great company that has always treated me well but I wont be back. Vandalia Police are a bunch of speed trap running extortionists and with the economy and gas prices I cant afford to risk them arbitrarily changing the speed limits to steal my money again. When your out of town business dries up at least youll know why. Ill never visit Vandalia again.
