The apartments are fully furnished and its so homey here! FREE laundry, FREE coffee in the morning, FREE maintenance and everyone is so helpful and nice. I love how you have to have a passcode to get into the door, super safe. Only Complaint is that there is no overhead light in the bedroom, you have to provide your own light. But overall, amazing!!!!
Its a step ahead of all the dormitories and other living arrangements here on UC campus. Staff is very friendly, Maintenance is friendly, free laundry and coffee and plent of events that go on. Its been a overall nice experience to live here at UPA. The only downside that comes to mind is lighting in the bedrooms. The desk light is handy but fails to illuminate the whole room completely. Otherwise I think UPA is a great place to live.
I love UPA for its location on campus, free laundry, and apartment style layouts, which are furnished and include a full kitchen. While the dishwasher and the AC broke in my dorm, maintenance was very responsive and fixed such problems the following day. I would highly recommend UPA to anyone looking for an apartment style dorm on campus with many amenities.
Amazing place to live! Free laundry and coffee, free food Wednesdays, a small gym inside, multiple study areas and lobbies! Super convenient as far as being close to central campus and being close to popular nightlife events and all of the food :) A great place to make friends and build community! The staff is also so great and accommodating!!
Ive lived here since the Fall of 2015, UPA South. This is going to be a detailed review, so buckle up. Overall score: 45/100Cons:- They shut off the air super early even though it was still really hot. Theyre also really hesitant to turn on the air again in the spring because the pipes will freeze. My apartment consistently got up to 78 degrees or higher without them caring- Maintenance takes forever to get to requests marked as high importance or urgent. Multiple problems in my apartment have not been fixed within a month of noting the problem to the staff (even though the problem was caused by a maintenance check in the first place)- Internet is super unreliable. I have to plug directly into ethernet to get a consistent connection- My room was in a disgusting condition when I moved in. I told the RA staff about the state of my bathroom and they assured me that someone would come in and clean it. No one ever did, so I had to get rid of mold and clean up all the stains from God knows what. I basically bleached the entire apartment before putting any of my stuff away- Things were also broken when I moved in. Both closet doors were busted as well as one of the windows and my freezer door. These must have been overlooked by RAs moving out the people before me- Really crappy lighting. No bedroom lights and one light right by the main door. Youll have to bring a ton of lamps if you want the apartment to not be dark- Thin walls. There was a review that said the walls are thicker but thats not always true. Every night, I can hear every word my neighbors say and what they do- Crap charges. We were charged for damages from some idiot group of students breaking things in common areas, plus they try to charge you for damages you didnt do in your room- The noise from the street is unbearably loud sometimes. I have to keep my windows open at night because it gets too hot and then I hear loud people and people blasting their music from their cars all night. Choose an even numbered room in the South building if you can, that is the side NOT facing Calhoun street. Also the light pollution from outside is bad tooPros:- Free laundry; almost never had issues finding a machine to use (though there are only about 8 washing machines/dryers per room so be wary) I also lived down the hall from the room so it was super convenient- Free wifi/internet and not paying utilities: as an apartment, it was great to not have to pay for these things but still get a kitchen and bathroom of my own- Included furniture: though some of the stuff was gross moving in, overall it worked out very well. Someone even left a lamp in the room that worked. I had a full bed, 2-seat sofa, chair, 2 bar chairs, coffee table, desk, desk chair, and 3 sets of drawers, which was a huge plus- Convenient location: enough said (plus theres a small workout room in the North building thats nice)- Safe and secure; you need keycard access to the building as well as a code to get into your roomDocument everything. Take photos of EVERYTHING when you move in so that when you move out, they cant charge you for anything. Hopefully my photos will keep them from charging me.Overall, its not a bad place to live if youre a Type B person and dont get grossed out easily. Im Type A and all the little things wrong with this place just kind of added up. I unfortunately have to live here again next year, but if youre on the fence, you can find somewhere nicer for a whole lot cheaper. I got free furniture and a single room, but Im afraid of having to move to a different room and completely bleach and deep clean the place again.
I have lived in UPA for a year and from my experience it has been nothing but good. The office and security staff is very friendly and always helpful. Whenever there is a problem maintenance comes in a timely fashion and is able to fix the problem! UPA is safe and so close to campus! I would recommend it to my friends.
Do everything you can to avoid living here! I unfortunately was stuck here for 2 years and it has been a horrible experience. It is a small step up from living in dorms. It is always filthy, the amenities are low quality, things are constantly not working, there are never open washers/dryers, and there are RAs just like the dorms. The AC breaks every summer, and there is little urgency to fix it--my room was 80 degrees for over a month, and no compensation was given. It is expensive and not worth it. For the same price, you can get a nice, CLEAN apartment with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a nicer rec room, and in-room washer/dryer. Also, there are cockroaches…cherry on top.Cant wait to leave.
The prices are marked up as high as they can get away with, and the only thing you get as compensation is location. Be ready to deal with graffiti in and around the building, washers and driers being removed or shut down, lights being removed or broken in elevators (when they work), and 2 am fire alarms. Save your money, live off campus with people you know, and enjoy the opportunities. The staff could run the place MUCH better, but keep going along with business as usual, as theyll still get the sophomores year after year. Get a house, or look at the other new apartments going up.
Overpriced even for location. A/C was not usable for 3 months during the summer even though it is factored into cost. Maintenance would take up to 2 weeks even if filed under urgent request. Was charged at the end of lease for the grout in the bathroom that had already been black. Furnature was already stained along with some carpets and they will try to charge you for that also. Closets in four person suite are made so poorly that they break upon first time use, they a 100$ charge follows. The only nice people were the maintenance men when they finally showed up, very nice people who explain what is going on. The managerial staff treat you like 3rd generation pond scum. The RAs were however very decent people. Laundry was overpriced although they decided to make it free after I left but as a result increased the price of rent to 2 arms and 2 legs instead of just one set. Bottom line, if you are going to shell out that much money for an apartment, there are many better places. Also you will only get to know other residents on the floor if you make an effort, its really like living in a -2 star hotel where robbery of your money is a legal crime.-One Unhappy, rationle Resident
DO NOT LIVE HERE! The only reason this place has so many good reviews is because they literally bribe you with free food etc so that you will write them a good review. Just living in a double room (shared bedroom, bathroom, kitchen) the total comes out to more than $1,000 a month to live here. TOTALLY not worth it. Yeah the location is great but that is probably the only positive aside from the free coffee every morning *which isnt even really every morning because there is none on the weekends* The furniture they provide is very medeocre and uncomfortable, as well as the fact that I found a roach in my kitchen! (Considering how many people do live here I am 50% sympathetic to the roach incident) all and all you can find something 1000x better through Uptown Rentals, newly renovated, completely furnished, with gaurunteed privacy, for legit half of that UPA is asking for by the semester. Granted you dont have to worry about paying monthly rent because the payment is made through your tuition, but once again its just totally NOT worth it. For the price I pay to live here, I am not even allowed access to the fax machine, printer, or the excersize room (which is the sorriest excuse for a gym I have encountered) beyond a certain time of night AND the staff truly tried to regulate how many times a week I can have my visitor spend the night. Even worst of all YOU STILL HAVE TO PURCHASE A PARKING PASS which I found to be completely unbelieving considering price once again. And lastly I just want to add that the only pet youre allowed to have is a goldfish...with the permission of your roommate. Dont let UPA rob you blind. There are FAR better options on campus & I am very upset that I wasted so much of my money on this apartment for my first year! I know better now though.
Lived here for a year and it was nothing but negative. Sure it was a lot better than the dorms but not by much. The biggest problem me and my roommate encountered was our neighbors. Loud, obnoxious football players, they would scream at all hours of the night and play music as loud as they wanted. Now thats not what bothered me, what bothered me is the 50 calls to the front desk that resulted in nothing, We have ended up calling them at least 40 times(no exaggeration) and each time they tell us, Youre more than welcome to go tell them to turn it down, as if they would care at all.Secondly the rent just keeps climbing! Now that UC is renting out all the rooms they now cost another $100 a month, which is incredibly high but than you also have to pay another $100 a month if you want to park anywhere.I believe the reason UPA cares so little is the fact the this place will be full no matter what, so they dont need to try to keep anyones business. So now im forced to move out because of the price and the fact that i cant study in my own room.Do yourself a favor and check out University Edge, after extensive research of apartments close to campus this one does not disappoint and much cheaper.
Its in a very good location in terms of both the school and activities off campus. It is also nice that it comes fully furnished. The only drawback is needing a desperate card rather than everyother building for on-campus living. I would totally recommend it, its the best deal for on-campus residence.
UPA is convenient to live due to the free laundry and close location to many shops, as well as campus. I personally have not had any extreme maintenance issues, as I see many others have had, so I cannot speak on that. However, one issue I have had was when I attempted to buy a new key, after losing it during winter break. For one, I came back from winter break on a Saturday night and there was an RA on duty who is only allowed to give out lock out codes. Basically this resets every 30 minutes and can only be used once. I needed to make several trips to my car which was very inconvenient as I had to keep coming back to get lock-out codes. On top of that, I live in the south building and was only able to get in if someone else was going in or coming out. So for the remainder of my weekend I had to keep getting lock out codes to get into my room as the office wouldnt open till Monday. Come Monday, the card machine ended up being broke. In the end, the machine didnt end up working until Friday. Going almost a whole week without being able to buy a new key card was a huge inconvenience for me as I had to keep going to the other building to get lock out codes. I believe that in the future, RAs should be able to issue new cards for after hours. I also believe that there should be more of a sense of urgency when dealing with issues like this. One other issue that I have had is when the laundry room is randomly closed for maintenance or painting. They will randomly close BOTH laundry rooms for several hours on Sundays, the day that most people do laundry. In the future, it would be nice if the staff could send out an email or note that lets residents prepare for this. Or perhaps leave one laundry room open while the other is being worked on.All in all, there are a couple of minor things that UPA can improve on but it is a decent place to live given the location, free laundry, free coffee, several events with free food, etc.
To anyone considering living in UPA i would HIGHLY recommend against it. The cost is just as much as nicer, off campus apartments, and the quality is much worse. The maintenance for this facility is beyond terrible, we a our toilet break in November and it took them until February to come and fix it. We submitted several maintenance requests and someone came to look at it finally in January, said he would be back the next day, then didnt return for another month. Every time we brought it up they said they had never heard of our issue, even the maintenance person who came to look at it the first time. We had a window break from kids throwing snowballs at it in January and it still wasnt fixed by the time we moved out. I had the slide on the top window in my bedroom break and it wouldnt stay shut in the middle of winter, and it took someone 4 days to come out and fix it.In addition to the shitty maintenance, they didnt turn on the AC in the building until over a month after it started getting hot out. Half the time the building didnt have hot water, our sink faucet was constantly breaking. And then the kicker: a $120 damages charge for A dirty fridge and stove top, along with another $60 which was just added to my bill with no explanation, several months after I moved out. Avoid this place by any means possible, yet another complex whos managers think they can abuse college students that dont know any better.
Just moved out of my room for the summer, got claimed $150 for a damage that had existed when I arrived and had absolutely nothing to do with. Tried contacting UPA about it but they just sent me in circles redirecting me to other people, this is bs. I would never recommend living on campus to anyone, go with one of the much more affordable and better quality apartments off campus.
Honestly one of the best dorms here at the University of Cincinnati. Definitely worth the money and all the workers are extremely friendly. I can actually study in my room, unlike most dorms, because you cant hear the next door neighbors due to thicker walls. Oh and cant complain about FREE LAUNDRY!
I wish I didnt have to leave any stars. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! This place is so over priced, absolutely disgusting and the staff does NOT care about you at all. To start off they took $2,060 a MONTH for me to live in a tiny one bedroom apartment with a roommate. When we first moved in, the lighting in the bathroom wasnt working, we took showers in the dark for an entire month before someone came and fixed it, all the doors squeaked, the apartment smelled terrible everyday and we couldnt figure out why. It turns out the dishwasher was leaking under the sink and was literally molding/ deteriorating the cabinet, the leaking dishwasher also rusted my brand new crock pot. Time and time again we found dead cockroaches across our apartment, it was the worst when I grabbed a measuring cup and found dead baby cockroaches in them. My roommate hated the housing and how they treated us so much she TRANSFERRED SCHOOLS. Leaving me stuck with getting a random roommate, I made it a point to talk to UC housing, the director of UPA and my RA and NO ONE could help me, I was even willing to pay the fee to have the room to myself, when I was sitting in front of the director, she looked me in the face and said I wasnt going to be able to have a room to myself because they wanted to maximize revenue and those were her exact words. I got $100 charge to take the bed frame in my room apart, they deemed it as unsafe because I lofted the beds, when someone at the front desk literally handed me the pins to loft my bed! I timed it and it took them 10 minutes from when the crew entered my room until they left my room, $100 for that! It is now a month since I have moved out of that TERRIBLE place and I just got a $20 damage charge... I called UC housing and they didt know what it was, so they transferred me to UPA, that gentleman didnt know and transferred me to his supervisor. She ended up telling me it was a charge to clean the stove drip pans. $20 to clean the stove drip pans..... My roommate and I both got checked out of UPA by different RAs, we both thought we were leaving the room in good condition, the RAs said the rooms were good to go. but somehow a month later I get charged $20? This place is a trap, a scam and not worth your time at all! Im not even going to go in detail about how many times I had to call an RA for the people blaring music next to us. To sum things up, DO NOT LIVE HERE, DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BUSINESS UC SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE PARTNERED WITH THEM.Just a side note. Alex Fields who also left a review on here is a RHD in UPA, she didnt even leave a 5 star review..
The place is a mess. Management needs improvement, holes punched into walls stains from God knows what on the floor and its almost always loud, between people yelling in the halls and construction on Calhoun. For a total $1600 month rent between me and my roommate for barely 500 sq. ft is ridiculous. You are absolutely being ripped off by living here. Dont live here. The maintenance guys are the only good/functioning thing about these buildings. They deserve a raise.
I lived there for a full year. The apartment was terrible. Compared to normal apartments in the area, the rent is extremely expensive. I found it almost impossible to pay the rent per month. Houses in UC are the way to go. The apartment is not at all what you pay for. Another thing is that air-conditioning and heat are promised in the apartment, but they shut of the air-conditioning for the winter. This means that in the fall, they shut it off before it gets cold and turn it on far into hot Spring weather. The staff make me feel very uncomfortable to approach them and do not handle situations very well. I have wandered into the leasing office looking for assistance when the staff help me, but the entire time they act as if I am wasting their time. I feel like for the fortune I pay to them, they could at least help me with a smile on their face.About the apartment: The air-conditioning doesnt work half of the time you want it to because they dont turn it on, the internet is also terrible (very hard to run anything but a computer, such as an xbox) and when you have a problem with the internet, they cannot help you, you must contact ResNet at UC for help, who are very slow at helping, the furniture in the apartment, along with the fixtures in the bathrooms are in terrible condition. I feel as if I am living in a luxury shack that has had a tornado run through it, all while I am paying a monthly fortune to them.If you are a parent reading this, please dont let you child room at UPA. It has been the most frustrating experience ever. Lease a house off campus (the area is really safe) and if you are worried about saftey, look north and west of campus, or close to campus. Those areas are relatively safe (I have had no problems in Clifton).
Very convenient place to live as you set it up through UCs living application like you would a dorm. A step up from dorm living as you have a fully furnished living room and kitchen. You still have to share a room with someone like a dorm.Location is on campus which makes walking to class easy.
The hot water is on a strict timer, (15 minutes). This is insane. Not only this, but I heard word on yelp that you are required to pay for replacements due to wear and tear?? Not that students staying here would know any of this, the internal UPA contract is behind closed doors.
When I first moved in my apartment had not been cleaned. I had to clean my apartment before I moved anything in because the floor clearly needed to be vacuumed along with some other things, i didnt want to put my stuff in a messy room. I basically used bleach on every inch I could. The shower is still gross along with the faust in the bathroom and the kitchen sink.

2022-03-08Any amenities that UC writes UPA has are not true. Air conditioning is constantly broken and you do not have any control over temp in your rooms. There is no fitness center, no game rooms, no tv lounge areas either. Elevators break constantly and I cannot remember the last time we had all elevators running. It is nice having two bathrooms and two bedrooms, and the the kitchen and living room work just fine as well. The space is nice and I would still pick UPA over a traditional dorm, just prepare to be sweating every night in your sleep and to be prepared to take the stairs. Also, I lived in North so I had security, but the UPA South has no security and living there is a major safety risk and multiple people have been attacked simply trying to enter their place of residence, and there is nothing UC will do about it. We also do not have printers in our dorm so you have to walk to a location with a printer on campus to do any printing.

2018-10-23According to my RA, UC bought out UPA, making any repairs/construction UCs responsibility. And there have been a lot of problems since moving in. First, the apartment was not cleaned before move-in. The bathroom was filthy and my roommates mom had to bleach it. There was drywall along the walls in the living room. Second, the common area of my floor is unfinished, just concrete and couches pushed together near the corner of the room. There were construction workers (who sat on the couches playing with their phones) but I dont even see them anymore. Third, the down button to the elevator had been broken for almost 2 weeks until it got fixed. It has been a disappointing experience so far. And the perks of free coffee and free food are gone. The apartments will have free laundry for the rest of the year but will very likely be gone next school year.Edit: Im out of UPA now, good luck to anyone still staying there.

2020-11-09Figured I should provide some info I wasnt aware of before living here. Laundrys no longer free. My bathroom flooded while I wasnt even using it in the spring, apparently because another apartment had a clogged toilet. Also, despite the fact this is a dorm, UPA is out of UC polices jurisdiction, so if theres an issue Cincinnati police are called. A/C was turned off in October (which is normal dont get me wrong), but now that we have some warm November days my apartment has been 76 to 80 degrees for 4 days straight. I wouldnt be complaining if it wasnt so expensive to live here. Definitely moving to a real apartment after this semester. 2/5 too much water.

2016-11-04Living in UPA has been great so far. I like the location on campus, and it doesnt feel any further away than the dorms are. The amenities are so nice, and the apartments are a good size. Its a good deal for the price I pay. I love doing my laundry for free, too.

2019-06-03UPA is good. The apartments are fully furnished with ease of ability to cook. Plenty of space. The hallways may need renovation. Sometimes lamps are out or the carpet is in poor shape. Lobby needs frequent cleaning. The maintenance team usually takes care of a lot of good work but might be able to do better. The aquapointe purified water in lobby is highly quality H20. No purifiers North. Each floor has its own lobby space which is nice. Free laundry. Trash service on each floor could be picked up more or processed better. This apartment is like Mount Carmel at the University of Cincinnati with the color of the building. Close to campus is always better especially next to track and baseball stadium.

2016-11-02I love living in UPA! Its a really convenient location on campus. I also appreciate the free laundry, coffee, and occasional food provided. Its spacious enough and its really nice that it comes fully furnished. My only complaint is that it is kind of annoying to have to swipe into the building, the room, and enter a code to get in, but I understand that safety is important. Overall, I would recommend living in UPA and am happy with my decision.

2018-03-02Great place to live. Location is practically on campus. Management and maintenance crew are super nice. Free laundry, free coffee, free food once a month! Only complaint is that the beds are hard and lumpy. Other than that UPA is amazing.

2018-10-07Im going to start by saying the only reason this place has 3.7 stars is because they used bribe students with food to write a good review, if you dont believe me, read the other reviews. Alright lets talk about UPA. Ive been living here for 2 years (entering my third now) and lemme tell you how awful UPA being taken over by UC is. Before it was average - wasnt amazing for the money you were paying but wasnt the worst. It has has officially dropped to the worst this year, yes I mean the 5 weeks were into this year. So upon returning to my apartment - I find it has not been cleaned, even though every appliance has been pulled out and placed in the center of the room, strange right? Floors are dirty, hair stuck in drains, all the things you DO NOT want to deal with first day back. Whatever easy to ignore cleaned the mess and continued on. The paint job they applied during the 4 months I wasnt here to the apartment looks like a 6 year old was given a brush but you know its okay, another thing I can ignore. But as time goes on it keeps getting worse. Hope youre never in a hurry. Usually only one elevator works so you can find yourself waiting for over 20 minutes to get up to your room since they dont unlock the stairs for us. Also do you like sleeping in 78 degree weather and taking cold showers? Then maybe UPA is the place for you. I cannot count the times I have the AC set to 70 and come back and its nearing 80 degrees, theres no website for maintenance requests anymore so I call maintenance, they tell me to flip the breaker, nothing, they put in a maintenance request, still nothing. Has happened about 8-9 times so far this semester. Oh and hot water is becoming a rare resource here. Hey the one star is for free laundry - that is if you can find a machine that doesnt smell like something has died in it. If youre considering living in UPA - just dont. I am paying roughly around $800 a month to live here and the AC and hot water doesnt work half the time. Really isnt worth the price honestly. UC housing please for the love of all things good - sell it back to the original owners. This is just awful.EDIT: It has been even worse in the last week. Air conditioning incompletely shut off - my room is currently 76 and the temperature is still rising. The light in out kitchen just completely fell off the ceiling without anyone touching it. And half the 8 washers for the whole building of 500+ people are still broken. All the floors common areas and hallways are torn up, no one has worked on them AT ALL. The lobby is always disgusting. not even sure we have maintenance anymore. No free parking - you have to pay $200-$500 per a semester ON TOP of the semester rate for a spot and this year is the worst the garages have experienced so far. NEVER except to find a spot when and FC or football game is happening. You will have to wait for someone and follow them to their car to take their spot. Would highly NOT recommend. Seriously, if youre considering UPA, dont live here, youll regret it. I cant wait to leave this awful place next year.
