During the RNC here in Cleveland I stopped in to TOMO. The staff was exemplary. The restaurant is family friendly. They have live action hibachi cooking which is always an amazing dinner experience. They have fresh sushi. A great wine list. Beers from around the world. This place is a world class experience.
Visited Cleveland, OH a few weeks ago and decided to have dinner here mainly due to the wide menu selection. We were seated right away and the front desk staff was so kind to recommend which sushi rolls we should order. We ended up getting the following: Tina Roll, Cleveland roll, 2 Dynamite rolls, Hot girl roll, Sexy girl roll, Spiderman roll and the Godzilla roll. It was just the right amount for 4 people considering we were starving! All the rolls were superb, would highly recommend them. After dinner we ended up going to the lounge upstairs for some hookah which was very disappointing. The front desk staff had told us the owner was a certified hookah professional so we had high expectations. The lounge felt grimy, hookah charcoal holes on the couches, floor and drunk/high people everywhere, even the bar tenders. Quality of hookah was low, price was $50 each for barely any smoke and flavor. We thought maybe the first one was bad so we tried ordering another, both were the same. Overall food was great but hookah was disappointing, don’t waste your money on it.
Well, as we walked in I should have taken the hint. we had an after party for Bone Thugs N Harmony last night. We didnt expect anyone this early. It was after 1pm. Not the place for hibachi or sushi. Rice was hard, the shrimp was way over cooked, the fried rice was not the best and I walked away knowing the staff was super nice and accommodating and she event too 20% off the bill. The take away is, party here but dont eat here.
Went there last night with a group of 10. Service was fast and the drinks were great. Our chef was fun and entertaining (I believe his name was David?) and the food was excellent. I ordered sirloin and shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. Shrimp was flavorful and cooked perfectly and so was the steak. I would definitely go back.
Probably the worst hibachi (quality, service, ect) ive ever had. Went on my birthday with family. Spent easily $200.00. everything eay over priced and terrible quality.Chef took 30min+ to start the show. Didnt care at all, rusher through it, didnt talk, then left.Trash save your money.
Went for Hibachi and the food and service were excellent. They lose one star for two reasons. One, do not get dessert here. The mochi was very stale, so not worth the $8.Two, they are quite sneaky about the gratuity line item on the check. 18% is automatically added for Hibachi dinners, which I certainly agree with. However, they add the suggested gratuity on the copy you sign based off the total price of which youve already been charged for gratuity. So if you dont look over your check and you typically leave 18-20% you may end up leaving 36-40% unintentionally.
WOW!!!!! I havent been here in person yet, so I cannot speak to the atmosphere or service but I must say the pictures look amazing. I have ordered from doordash twice and the food wS SUPERB!!!!! large portions, steak ordered medium was cooked to absolute PERFECTION!and the VLADIMIR SUSHI ROLL WAS THE BEST THING IVE EVER EATEN!!!!!***** omg I could eat this roll every single day forever. Cannot wait til I get a chance to stop by and get the full dine Im experience.
This place has the potential to be great. However, the two times Ive dined here, its been pretty chaotic. I say chaotic because there are typically only three or four people working the whole restaurant that are visible. Both times Ive dined here, our drink orders werent taken for more than 20 minutes after sitting down and the restaurant was not full at all. The food has also taken quite some time to come out, I didnt exactly time them, but it was at least 25 minutes before they started the hibachi (And that was after we all ordered, which took an additional 25 minutes prior.) I will say, the food is good, and Ive had both sushi and hibachi here, but if the service were a little quicker or organized, this place could be great.
Went for sushi for dinner. Was a Thursday night and the restaurant was almost empty (was bad weather though). The place is very big with normal tables, hibachi tables and bar. Sushi was good, fish seemed good quality. Service was nice and food was pretty quick. Curious why it was not so busy.
The food was absolutely disgusting! the employees were rude and blunt. They were overly unprofessional the way they spoke to me and my friend. They forgot to serve us food when we asked for it. They accused us of dinning and dashing when we already paid. They had an employee chase us down outside to get a signature just to receive a tip for their poor service. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!!! We tried to tell them how the food was awful and they didnt care about accommodating the issue but got rude with us.
Please head my warning, i have read reviews on a restaurant and been like “ oh it must have just been them” this is not that. We waited 2 hours for our food only to have one meal never show. we all finished our food and the. after we asked for the check the last bit of food show up. they didn’t care about how bad they did. they took me for 100 dollars and i feel bad for the wendys down the block that i didn’t get to pay for a better meal.
Ive only ordered a hookah there, so my review is purely based off that. The hookah was at most mediocre, but I had to pay $50 for only one hookah. That is absolutely crazy. You can buy a decent hookah for $100 for you to own not just to smoke for one session. It was partly my fault for not asking for the price beforehand, but the price was not listed on the menu and Ive never had a hookah cost more than $15. Whats worse is the owners behavior. The owner came to us drunk and said hell make the hookah for us, but instead he kept on talking nonsense for an hour nonstop before finally making the hookah for us. The owner was very inappropriate in what he was talking about. Since hes the owner, the staff could do nothing but watch as the owner annoyed us for a whole hour. Very unprofessional. first time making a review on literally anything shows how unpleasant the experience was going there.
Tomo rocks. Super chill vibes and delicious hibachi. I didnt get a chance to try the sushi but hear its the bomb. Hibachi is a huge serving and the gyoza is tender while also crispy. Great decision coming here. Not to mention the bartender is badass and friendly. And the owner is very welcoming and kind. Will try to come back before my trip ends.
We came for Valentine’s Day day and it was just a bad first experience. We had a reservation and that did not seem to matter at all. My boyfriend is in a wheelchair and the facilities are not ADA but we had no way of knowing that and I listed it in the reservation. The food took way took long to come out and it was and overcooked. We did not get our food for well over an hour of sitting. There was one person hosting, taking orders, bartending, and we could not understand what was happening. We where told hibachi was not an option so we we ordered our food traditional style and getting refills, ordering more drinks, even getting the soup they forgot to bring me was impossible because there was so much running around. When the food came out cold and with over cooked chicken we decided to just make the best out of it and eat what we could and leave. Maybe this was an off night but we won’t try again to see. I am only giving them 2 starts because they tried. I am assuming people must have called off or something.
My boyfriend and I tried Tomo Friday of Valentine’s Day weekend. Before arriving, we called to see if we needed a reservation, which we did not but were told that the kitchen was very busy and we may have to wait on food. That wasn’t an issue at all, we sat down placed our drink and appetizer orders. The appetizer showed first, drinks took about 20 minutes to hit the table, at the point our appetizer was almost finished. Again, no issue, we had to get smart and order drinks even if our current drinks were full because drink service was taking so long. We didn’t end up waiting hardly at all for entrees. The server cleared our entrees and we asked for the bill. The server brings the bill, takes our card, swipes it and just brings our card back to the table. We didn’t have a receipt to sign or add a tip to. So, I asked the server where we were supposed to write in the tip in which she replied she swiped our card on the wrong machine. She brings out another machine, swipes our card again, we sign that receipt and tip. A few days later we realized the server never voided the original transaction and charged us twice. We called Tomo, gave all the necessary information, were told we would be refunded and never heard from them again. We had to open a compliant with the bank to get refunded. Unfortunately, the sushi was not good enough to look past the awful service and mindless mistakes made.
Avoid this place. I came to Cleveland to experience the city and to take In restaurants in the. Downtown area. I had my wife , son and grandson and stopped Into this place for eats. The waiter staff were great and got us ready for the main course. 45 minutes urea later I became concerned. And asked the waitress to give us a status on the chef. She did her best to cover for the slow service and offered the explanation that, due to COVID, the chef has to sterilize the equipment between each customer. So we waited some more but did not get any service. We noticed that there was an attempt to get a chef out to serve, but he was not ready to work. As more time went by, he finally came out to cook for us. I asked him if he was ready and that I had kids waiting to eat. His response was disconnected from my concern and attempted to pretend that nothing was going on. When he began his JOB, he appeared to be under the influence of a substance and was dropping and spilling things through his attempt at his routine. I’d recommend that no one go to this place. If youdo choose, hopefully you and your family will not experience the same service that we received. By the way, we paid $79.00 for soup, salad and drinks. We got our main course at WENDY’S.
Attended with a large party when it was not busy on a Monday night. Waited for service with several delays in between drink orders, menu orders, and for chef to be ready. Seemed to be understaffed, despite having a reservation weeks in advance. The soup was very bland, it did not taste like anything, had to add soy sauce for some flavor. The salad was tasty. The chef did a phenomenal job with what he had. Everything he grilled tasted delicious and he was fun. They were out of rice apparently, so instead of providing him with fresh rice to cook, we were given obviously hours old rice that was clumpy and did not taste good. The chef did his best but it could not make up for the understaffed service and poor preparation of ingredients by the restaurant. They force you into a full meal by enforcing a $10 sharing charge and after the food debacle stacked a gratuity charge on to boot. Will never be returning.
Very excited to hear about a sushi bar, went in everyone was wasted. Only 1 server and 1 bartender. Pretty sure the one server owns the place or is a manager. Service was horrible.our server forgot out food so when he did bring it out it was cold. Ordered a garden salad, on menu it said it had carrots, tomatoes, cucumber. When it came out it was a very plain bowl of just lettuce and a little dressing, will not be coming here again!
When ordering for take out, the person on the phone refused to take my name or number, which I found odd and made it confusing when I went to pick up the order. The sushi seemed to be pretty low quality and was just okay. I would recommend Ginko Sushi over Tomo any day.
I got there exactly 25 minutes after I placed order as I was told. Our sushi was cold and in the same container. I asked for two. I should get two containers. I shouldn’t have to take out someone else’s Sushi from my container. They didn’t have their own wasabi their own chopsticks. Not cool. And I’m cool. Good luck.
The best sushi and hibachi establishment in Cleveland ohio. The food is overwhelmingly good. The portions are ridiculously hefty. The atmosphere is charming and sofisticated. The owners are amazing humans. I highly recommend this place. If you have a bad experience here. Tell me Im wrong
My daughter and I ate here this afternoon..delicious food!! I had the Volcano sushi rolls and my daughter had the Dynamite Sushi..as well as a aide of noodles..some soup..i forget the name..Miso or something..i have a teen that is picky about her food and every bite of everything..her eyes lit up as she savored it.. The waiter was nice, funny and attentive..and the owner was very friendly as well.even bought me another mixed drink and my daughter and I both pieces of fried cheesecake to try..we definitely will be back
Very bad service, took over an hour to get drinks. We actually ended up getting them ourselves from the bar. They never gave us soup or salad, took another hour to get our chef to cook for us. Food was just ok. Not worth a 2 hour wait (with reservation) at the table. They did give us 20% which made the bad experience 20% less bad. The staff was unprofessional. I did feel bad for the waitress. Was her first day and it seemed like they just threw her out there. I would not return or recommend this place to anyone.
Worse experience I’ve never had in a restaurant. A friend and I were visiting out of town and decide to go. The restaurant was pretty empty and it took over an hour for us to get our food. Once it was time to pay our tab we were told that their machines were down and they couldn’t take cards, only cash. We didn’t have cash on us and we were told that they would have to take pictures of the front and back of our credit cards in order to pay for our meal which sounded super suspicious to us already. There was a group of girl near us that were also told the same and a man which I believe was a manger or owner started yelling at them telling them they had to do the same. They did not meet our expectations, really after spending so much money..
Worst place ever! Food took forever and the manager and staff were so unprofessional. The food wasn’t worth it and the place looked like it wasn’t cleaned in years! Even after they bring your food, they never come back to check up on you. I don’t recommend this place at all, they charge people extra money for the mandatory tip and other services. What a horrible, horrible experience. Seriously if you want to try hibachi, go to Wasabi..... it’s the best restaurant ever. The reason I’m giving this place one star is because it’s a minimum requirement to post this review.
One of the best Hibachi experiences I have had. The food was great. The show was the best Ive seen and very unique compared to other Hibachis where Ive found that it gets pretty stale. Our cook was incredibly funny and personable. Our service was very fast. Definitely worth a try!
We had a great time. Met the owners. They were fantastic. Food was excellent. Our waiter was absolutely awesome. They were running late on our sushi. However, they apologized and they went above and beyond to make it right. Extra food free deserts for the table (party of 4) and drinks on the house. We will definitely stop by again.
New to town from SD and had to try this place. The staff was fantastic and so friendly and talkative. The food was delicious. A must stop! Be sure to have a chocolate martini, I know that might seem out of place for a sushi place but they are TO DIE FOR! Amazing experience!
The service took forever although there was few patrons. The appetizers and drinks took forever to arrive and seemed hastily prepared and not made to order, Hookah didnt work, ordered snake special at market price ($125) was so tough broke my tooth! Ive been in the restaurant business my whole life never once complained about a meal or left a review let alone a bad review. Not only was the food horrible the wait staff was rude and seemingly intoxicated. The manager was as nice as i think she could be but i assume her hands are tied on how to deal with the gross mismanagement at this establishment
Just dont do it. Calamari appetizer was chewy and over breaded. Two ordered hibachi. Adequate at best. Two ordered sushi. The tuna came out grey in color and was clearly not fresh and likely not safe to eat raw. They did agree to remove the sushi order from our bill which was the right thing to do. But the better idea would be to not serve old fish. I felt really bad for our server, and who I assume was the servers manager, for having to be the front line for a management team who are clearly to blame. It is a decent enough looking place that needs attention in the kitchen urgently. There are far better options in Cleveland if you are looking for sushi or a good Asian meal.
So I went to this place last night and I must say I have never been to a hibachi restaurant where you have been sitting for over 35 minutes waiting to place a drink order. The cook came before we got drinks. The cook had to have the waiter bring water. We had to ask the cook if we got soup and salad with our meals being he had started cooking and we hadnt gotten anything. The prices was ridiculous for the amount of food they give you. The soup was bland and the food was not great. The yum yum sauce had chunks in it, and the salad was nasty. We barely saw a waiter because he was the only one working the entire place. We had been there for almost 3hrs. Most of the time was just waiting on things to be brought to the table including the check. When we brought our concerns to the lady inside she said she called the police even though we were not disputing the bill just the gratuity because service was horrible. I would not recommend this place at all. Management is rude and the service is horrible.
Service was tremendously slow, and food was mediocre. Walked in around 7 on a Wednesday evening and we were seated at a table where there were already four other guests finishing their appetizers, (also prepared for a hibachi dinner). Being the ONLY table in the restaurant for hibachi, service was incredibly slow, as the people who had been seated before us decided to take off after waiting a supposed 45 minutes AFTER they finished their appetizers for the chef to come out and prepare their entrees. On top of that, the couple also came across a dangerously sharp piece of plastic in their food which greatly contributed as to why they left. Unfortunately , the service my party and I was given wasn’t any better. We also waited a good 45 minutes for the hibachi chef after finishing our appetizers, along with the other couple who was patiently waiting whom had arrived shortly after the couple that left. When the chef finally showed up, the show was not entertaining, as he was very bland and slightly boring. The jokes he attempted to crack were actually quite racist, as he’d often refer to every move he made as the “Japanese” way of doing things. Aside from also not having the correct food prepared to cook when he came out, the food itself was bland and lacked flavor altogether. I ordered the hibachi steak & shrimp which came with vegetables and fried rice, all of which could’ve been served with much more seasoning and flavor. Unlike other hibachi places, the chef took rather long to prepare our meals and serve them to us, making one item at a time rather than cooking multiple things at once like most hibachi chefs do. When the show finally concluded and the meals were finished, it took another good 10-15 minutes to flag down and catch the waiter’s attention despite there being no one else at the restaurant besides our table before taking another 10 minutes to give us the check to pay. The whole process altogether took until about 9:15, much longer than we had anticipated dinner to take. We will definitely NOT be attending this joint again, as the service clearly needs improvement along with better trained staff who don’t come up with excuses as to why service was slow such as, “it’s only my fifth day working here,”.
We came with a full table (x2 grills). We got 1 chef. I finished my rice and vegetables before I even saw the main course brought out. My steak was set in front of me on the grill and left there long enough that I had to flip it myself. It was overcooked by the time the chef came back from the other grill. Drink service took ages. The lighting was poor and I couldnt tell if the meat was actually cooked thoroughly(chicken) or just chewy due to low quality. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, as it would easily be considered cruel and unusual punishment. 0/10.
This place is super friendly, everyone is very accommodating and the service is great. The food and drinks not so much. The alcohol in the cocktails is incredibly cheap, which obviously affects the overall result, very sweet and syrupy. I had sushi, so I cannot comment to their hibachi. The fish was not very fresh. I was just visiting Cleveland so I am not sure how it compares to other places in the area.
This was my first experience at a hibachi and hardly would I say I was impressed. It was a Friday evening and the place was dead- should have been a sign. There was little showmanship (didn’t even get an onion volcano or anything thrown into my mouth) from the chef. The only thing the chef said to us was “if you owned a company would you hire a felon?”The food was tasty, but I had anticipated a show. Our waitress also told us that she was asked if we were giving her a hard time, I can’t imagine anything we did that would have been construed as difficult. I’m not soured to the idea of hibachi, but I won’t be trying this place again.
Came by for quick bite, ordered Indian sushi roll...to go. 20 minutes later still no order. Checked with staff, well there was a large order to fill. It will be 10-15 minutes more. Really? There are three parties in the whole restaurant! Its Monday night. You told me it would be ready in 5 minutes. Just manage customer expectations better. Had I known of long wait I would not have ordered... Give me a choice to wait 30 minutes for a roll or go on!
I was really disappointed with todays experience. First time was really good. This was my 2nd time & we went for my husband for fathers day. First of all I called for the hibachi dinner, when i got there there was no hibachi dinner just dine in (I wish they would have said that over the phone). So I brushed it off because i understand the situation with the covid 19. Buuuuut they didnt even distance the tables they sat people right behind us with no walking space. The soup had no flavor whats no ever, the rice had no flavor, the sodas was flat. The steak & noodles were really good but I felt like it was a waste of $100. Although the waitress was extremely sweet.
Lilly the bartender and Velimar the owner are extremely polite and easy to talk to. The staff cares about customer service and they value the customers experience. Its a local and independent restaurant thats in a great location. The food is excellent as well. You should definitely go! You will enjoy your time at the restaurant.
Went to eat here on sat night with a party of 10 service was not good sushi came out when our cook was playing our food. 2 of us ordered the ostrich which was the worst cooked food ever neither one of us ate more than 2 bites and then when handed the bill it was $150 for the plate of dog food they served. Then the manager treated us like s**t and then charged us full price. Im sure if you order a simple meal it would be fine but I urge you try Wasabi not far from downtown and much better food and atmosphere.
This place is great. The sushi is out of this world! Its all made fresh to order with very fresh ingredients. The service here is outstanding. Our waiter was a trip! Very friendly. The bartender was also very cool. We sat in the front half of the restaurant. The back half is a hibachi setup. Its a nice place. A little pricey, but well worth the money!
Amazing service and the food was wonderful. huge portions for the price. the chef was Bruno and he constantly cracked jokes and did cool tricks the whole time. defiantly made the experience of hibachi 10x better. our server was Rory and he was very kind and super attentive. he made sure we had everything needed. to top it off we had 3 kids, 6,5, and 3, and a newborn. the owners enjoyed the kids and didnt mind when they got loud because of the fire.thank you Tomo, Bruno, and Rory for the great time!
Horrible customer service. Absolutely sickening how they treated me while waiting for a door dash. Waited over an hour and when asked about 20 minutes into waiting for my customer food the server was nasty with me and couldn’t even check on the order just got an attitude and told me he doesn’t make the food. Had to call door dash and tell them. Don’t recommend giving them your business or getting doordash from here.
Watered down drinks-and I mean the alcohol, sprite, and lemonade we ordered were all completely watered down. The place was pretty dead and the amount of time they took to get our food was ridiculous especially since they had more people cleaning the place then attending to their customers. On the other hand their water was delicious lol! Food was good and the chef was live and silly. Once the waitress paid attention to us they were nice. 3 stars.
We went on a Saturday night and had an amazing time at the hibachi. We had 5 guests and our cook was hysterical and kept everyone engaged in dinner. Nobody had a bad time and we laughed so much at he threw around veggies and saki. Also in this restaurant is a nightclub that we did not have a chance to visit. And in a portion of the restaurant you can also order a hookah as well. Very lively atmosphere and worth a visit!
I ordered shrimp fried rice for delivery and it was burnt. Also there was some other meat in it that I did not request. When I called the manager she argued with me that no there is no way there could be another meat in the rice and that no it wasn’t possible it was burnt that “that’s how they make it” I said to her “are you saying that I am lying to you?” I couldn’t believe how she kept implying that I was lying. First time trying this establishment and my last time for sure. What ever happened to the customer is always right? What ever happened to apologizing? She didn’t even cook this meal but she was so sure that what I was saying wasn’t true. How about you put me on hold and talk to the chef? So unprofessional!! I will take my business somewhere else.
This place is terrible, arrived and was seated at 8:30. Hostess brought water and staed a waiter would be here shortly. 30 minutes later the hostess came to ask if our waiter arrived. She had not, so she went to the bar and the bartender took our orders. We ordered two drinks and the bartender brought those over timely. I assumed the food was put in, however at 9:40 the hostess came to the table and said all of the waiters walked off the job. So we waited from 8:30-9:40 to only be served water and two alcoholic beverages.
Posting this again since they deleted my review (and I will keep posting if necessary):Havent visited but if youre a person of color (black) do not support this business. My friend went there last night with a date and told me he was racially profiled by the manager there. There was plastic in his food and he told the cook. The manager comes out and tries to tell my friend and his date that they were trying to get a free meal and if that they didnt pay she would call the police. My friend refused to pay because he didnt eat the food yet and it simply wasnt fair to spend $70 on food with plastic in it. Thats unsanitary. The manager blocks the entrance so they couldnt leave and pulls her phone out to start recording him. This made me so upset I had to make this review for people to be aware. If the police showed up who knows how this situation would have turned out.
I have been in the restaurant about a half dozen times now. The food is great ! I lived in Tokyo for about 3 years and find the food comparable to what I tasted there. Had the rolls filled with salmon, cream cheese and avocado yesterday. They were delicious. Haven’t tried the hibachi yet, but I can see the other customers like it, especially the chefs doing their work at the grill. Would recommend this restaurant for someone seeking a Japanese experience in Cleveland.
Great hibachi show and funny chef! Really fantastic food in large portions. Sushi is very fresh, with a large amount of options! Wait was a bit slow, and needed to ask for chopsticks, soy sauce, and more water. The food was definitely worth it though! Swordfish hibachi is a must.
I had a horrible experience at this restaurant and Im never going back. The service was terrible. We had a reservation and still ended up waiting hours before being served. We were served cold soup when that finally did arrive at the table. They sat us in the basement and forgot about us. We asked to speak to the manager who never came to speak with us. They sent an assistant manager who basically laughed off the situation and made excuses for the horrible service. We were supposed to receive a discount for the inconvenience and they brought our bills twice without any discount. The food was just okay after all that. Overall horrible experience. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
Such a disappointment!Had friends in from Pittsburgh who requested hibachi for dinner. We’ve patronized this restaurant before, however Sa 3/16/19 - our service and food were both underwhelming and overpriced. Our soup was delivered to the table seconds after we got our salads (nbd). Our waitress was adorable (...reminded me of the actress Nora Lum from Ocean’s 8/Crazy Rich Asian), but her bare thumb in my bowl of hot water w/onions & mushrooms was not cute! I picked at my entree, which was dropped off at the same time as the soup — tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. Our hibachi plates were so bland and flavorless. Their yum yum sauce had a horseradish-based taste to it, but did nothing to improve the food. We wanted seats at a grill, but took a table bc we didn’t have reservations. $28+ per plate... won’t do that again!
Horrible. Reservation at 7:30. Seated at 8:20. Saw some soup at 9:15. There for a 14 yr old bday party with her girlfriends. Chef had NO personality. Didnt address us at all. Sang to himself as he cooked. Food was not great -, I dont feel good after eating there so Im guessing some bad stuff in those mystery sauces. If you want hibachi, go to the suburbs. Never trust an Asian restaurant when Asians arent working there. FYI, they had 3 chefs for 8-10 kitchen set ups , so clearly they are under staffed and over booking the restaurant. I never post reviews because I am a restaurant owner, but I dont want anyone to have this experience.
I wish I could speak to the owner this was the worst experience we arrived at 730 and did not eat until 10 pm. We had a large party with a reservation no one told us there would be a long wait or that they were short staffed. Also we did not get to enjoy the whole experience no saki! That’s what we came here for. I’m completely disappointed for my dads birthday it was a huge let down. We also watched another party walk out. Wish we did the same!
Horrible. Costs waayyyy too much for cheap quality. The people were nice but there were only 4 four trying to eat and it took them an hour to get started. There was no other customers in the restaurant. He used too much sauce to cook with that drowned out the flavors. Then he gave my rice to someone who ordered sushi! She didnt even eat it. He threw a large piece of my steak on the floor trying to hit my mouth. Then threw my shrimp on the table smh... Two half plates of food $145
An average Hibachi experience for the high price we paid. Have been to much nicer, better and fun Hibachi before at a much lower Price.Food was average Hibachi food. The host failed a couple of times but thats fine. The ambience was extremely dull for a Saturday night dinner. Hardly couple of tables along with us.Just average food at for an average Hibachi experience at a very dull place for an extremely high price.
Zero stars. Pretty much the worst meal Ive had in a long time. Bumped us from our hibachi table because they had a reservation for a larger group, so our group of nine was bumped that day. While we waited at the bar, the owners wife dined off the bar garnishes while double dipping. Our non hibachi table was for 8 with an extra chair so I was squeezed in a corner. For the food... Salad had fresh lettuce but terrible dressing and was only a few bites. Soup was bland and flavorless. Hibachi chicken was dry and lukewarm. Rice was inedible and judging by the table, everyone agreed. Tempura was piping hot, but the batter was too thick and ended up making each bite mushy and undercooked. Ran out of several desserts. Staff was more concerned with bachlorette party than us. Must be where they make their money, because dining room was far from full. I cant see how they are still open.
This place is the pits.. Over priced small portions and service was slow and unfriendly. When i complained about the mediocre 20$ sushi roll that should have been loaded with crab meat they just looked at me and walked away.. Small portion of rice was not enough. Our bill was 70$ and we were so disappointed we got boxes and went home to make rice. Its a shame you would serve people with such little care about satisfaction. I eat out 5 days a week and will never go there or recomend the place. But who goes anyway. Peak lunch hour and we were the only ones and still waited 30 min for fried rice. Oh and the cook was drinking more saki then he evrn offered us ..i want a refund .period.
Went here for my bachelor party on the 21st. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for our cook to come over. As soon as the cook showed up he asked an African American member of my party if he wanted “Popeye’s Chicken” for dinner. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes for service that racist comment was the last thing we wanted to hear. So we paid for our drinks and left. It was not the experience I expected or wanted on the first stop of the party. I am hoping something is said the the cook who made the racist comment as it made everyone very uncomfortable.Update: the waitress never apologized after I left and the cook who made he “Popeyes chicken” comment was actually the owner. Very unprofessional.
I read all the reviews of this place before coming, noting a lot of bad reviews of the service, but decided to give it a chance anyway. The place was basically empty when I came, but I guess it was a snowy Tuesday night after all. We were taken to a table right away, which was to be expected. The hibachi chef was pretty good and seemed intent on giving us a good show even though it was just me and my girlfriend, and the food was good. Not best thing in the world good, but good. I got some steak and scallop dish and my girlfriend got swordfish. As I said, the steak and scallops were good, tasty, but nothing too special about them. My girlfriends swordfish seemed rather dry, but Ive never had swordfish before so I have no point of reference.Seeing the place, I can kind of understand how they might get overwhelmed when theyre full, considering the place has at least 3 floors of seating, but my experience was positive. It should be noted that I came with a Groupon. Im not a particularly affluent college student so this place probably would have been out of my price range without the Groupon, so I cant exactly speak to whether I feel full price would have still been worth it. I just had a positive, filling experience, which is enough to get a positive rating and recommendation from me.
Thankfully I had a groupon. My girlfriend and I sat at a hibachi with two other ladies. The server that we got was terrible. It was her first day so we gave her some slack but she was absolutely the worst server Ive ever had. She had no personality or people skills. We had to repeat orders multiple times. It was like talking to a wall. The ladies that were with us were just as frustrated as we were. After giving us our drinks we didnt see her until well after we were all done eating. There was confusion with both checks that just prolonged this experience. She gets a 0/5 and so does the person that hired her. -- Then the hibachi. Our chef was a young guy and the food came out really good. But the show was non existent. We got a couple fire balls and some saki and then he just cooked. He gets a 3/5 just because the food was good. -- Definitely better places in Cleveland and surrounding areas.PS. The bartender was also pretty bad.
This place is awful. We waited 2 and a half hours after we were seated for our food to start to be cooked. Then we found out that the hibachi cook wasnt even a cook. He burned all our food, could not even chew the rice it was so hard. The manager tried to say the food was quality food and that we starting trouble because we didnt want to pay for burned food. When we were leaving the restaurant we overheard the cook outside saying they threw him in there and that he didnt know what he was doing because he was a BUS BOY. What the hell people!!! Really!! Never again will eat at that place.
I went to visit this restaurant for the first and last time on February 9, 2019 for a birthday dinner . When I walked in, I was turned off by the way the restaurant looked, It’s dingy and dirty. Food was all over the floor. The servers and staff was rude and not knowledgeable about procedures . The only good out of this situation was the manager was very nice and the sushi was good. The food was mediocre and was full of pepper with sesame seeds, nothing like other Japanese food . After sending the food back , my family and I noticed a RAT under the refrigerator that had a terrible odor that reminded me of a stale dirty diaper. I informed the manager and she acted oblivious to the fact. She then sent over a man who looked to be a street thug with bad breath to talk to me about paying for my mother meal after I informed the manager I wasn’t paying . I told him just like I told her about the rodent . He tried to use reverse psychology which dint work. My party and I walked out without paying a dime and my aunt called me after the fact to inform me the police was called . FYI : The Health Department has been notified
The owner, family, and staff are all very friendly, prompt, and attentive. I’m a traveling consultant and this is by far the best restaurant Hibachi/sushi restaurant I have been to while visiting Cleveland. It’s clean, fast, accurate, and downtown Cleveland. I will always visit when I come to Cleveland.
I never leave reviews because I worked in the service industry and know it is difficult. However I made an exception today. We counted 9 patrons in the entire restaurant. We sat for 45 mins without our orders. (Three rolls of sushi in total). Two of us actually got our sushi. One got no sushi. Awful service and awful staffing by an awful restaurant.
Ive been to TOMO three times and this past time there were several things that tainted our dining experience. We had reservations and only had to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated so that wasnt a huge deal. Our server was friendly but was flustered, confused, and hurried the whole night. Once we ordered our drinks we waited 20 minutes and asked our server and the manager before they finally came to our table. We ordered an appetizer that came out wrong; they fixed that and brought out the correct appetizer. It took about 30 minutes from us sitting down to put our food order in since our server was nowhere to be found. The hibachi show was fun, but we werent offered sake (free, I know, but I was looking forward to it as part of the experience). After everything was said and done, we asked our server if we could speak to a manager. The server responded, Well, were pretty busy right now. We finally spoke to the manager who took 20% off of our bill. However, the gratuity was included for our party of TWO. This was the real kicker. Hopefully the gratuity is split with the hibachi chefs because the service unfortunately was not worth the 18% tip that we were forced to pay.The restaurant also seems to be a bit confused as to what kind of atmosphere its going for. In addition to the hibachi shows, there were sports playing on multiple TVs that were drowned out by loud EDM music and a hookah lounge upstairs. It was all very overstimulating and confusing.3 stars is generous for the experience that we had, but I appreciated that the manager at least attempted to make things right. As a person who has worked in the service industry, I understand that things go wrong, but it was thing after thing that kept going wrong and could have been handled better by our server. Well be trying other hibachi restaurants around Cleveland in the future.
I feel terrible that it took me so long to write this review but it’s my all-time favorite place downtown! The food is excellent and the atmosphere is so unique. The service is above and beyond too. Jemail and Delfia always take care of us when we come in. I absolutely love that the owners are always around! They made a point to remember our names. Awesome place.
The food was fine, not great. The place overall is pretty dingy and the restaurants downstairs were gross. Our server was friendly and extremely helpful, but he was covering what felt like the whole restaurant and it was hard to track him down. Its a fine place for Japanese, but go somewhere else if youre looking for a nice date night.
I preciously visited this restaurant and it was AMAZING!!! Had dinner there tonight and it was not a pleasant experience. They must have new management. There was literally 10 people in the restaurant and I think 4 may have been staff. We waited over 10 min to place our order. The food was edible but not worth the price. I am still waiting for my beverage and Im at home. Then when we received our check it was the wrong one and my guy friend didnt pay attention he handed over his credit card. Then when I asked for it to be corrected the manager Tina was very nasty. She did not offer an apology. Instead she continue to cut me off and rush me out of the restaurant. I called back and was told Tina was the owner. I will never spend another dime in this restaurant. Hope the close soon. Aweful management
As I make this review I hope anyone reading this really takes into consideration what I’m saying about this place. I’ve never been here before 1-20-18 but it has good numbers of reviews and seemed nice... but it was horrible and i HOPE anyone who sees this DOES NOT GO HERE!!!! Save your money !! Go to wasabi or another steakhouse ... even wasabi is 30-40$$$ cheaper than here and is SO MUCH BETTER !!!! This place is worked by creepy men and drunk girls this is not a family place. The Groupon coupon DOES NOT WORK HERE!!!Last night 1/20/18 i had reservations at 8pm @ Tomo In Cleveland for my family for my birthday . At 7:45 they called us to tell us we had to push our reservation till 8:30 because they were busy. We got there at 8:15 and waited till 9:10 to even sit down. Meanwhile 3-4 families has walked in and got seated immediately... by time we even got seated they either got our drinks wrong or didn’t even bring them to us for another 30 minutes. We had a Groupon that said ‘ one per person, one per tab, one per table ‘ And we had bought them before hand and asked if we could use more than one because it wasn’t clearly stated to only use one until the manger told us only one.... so our food took another 40 minutes to even have the chief come cook meanwhile only One table was being used on our level so no reason for that... the waitress seemed intoxicated and the chief was definitly on coke 100% NO DOUBT!!! I’ve never ever seen such a horrible place and had horrible service ... so for two meals we paid $100 WHICH WAS CRAZY. Both meals were around 26$ but they add a %20 tip onto the bill without asking or telling so that added on $15 for us plus $10 in taxes plus our drinks were $5-8$ . This was just outrageous for the service, for the food, and for the overall experience.. our rice was horrible, it has no seasonings tasted plain and uncooked .... the meat was good. The chief made very inappropriate comments about younger adults in front of families and young young kids , it was very rude. While leaving I overheard the manger who was tall with brown hair curly Russian accient tell the waitress about them taking shots of patron to get through the busy night ... also the manger had her 7-9 year old daughter making customer salads with no gloves or washing her hands before and working in the freezer with foods. I thought was gross and unprofessional completely especially being 1030 on a Friday night in downtown Cleveland ... I just thought this place should be shut down and now that I’ve seen more reviews of other people complaining about the servers being drunk, the cook making sexual comments, the service sucks along with uncooked food. This place needs all the reviews it can so people stop giving them service they don’t deserve .. Ive worked in food for years and this is by far the worse....
ABSOLUTE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I made reservations over a week ago, only to still have to wait an entire hour to be seated. Even after being seated still waited another 1/2 hr for a server. Finally get a server and the guy was so rude and rushed our order because he had other tables. The chef made very offendive sexual remarks while cooking and squirting saki. VERY OFFENSIVE!!!!! Had a soda and asked 4 times for a refill never got it ($2.75). The food was good but not at ALL worth the pricing and they demanded gratuity. After complaining about service the manager became very confrontational. I was so offended. Instead of listening to our complaints and handling them, the manager just wanted to take care of us with champagne and free hookah. Wasnt worth it. LASTLY IT WAS SO HOT IN THERE WE COULD BARELY ENJOY OUR FOOD!!!! WORST BIRTHDAY DINNER EVER!!! GO TO WASABI, SO MUCH BETTER!!!!
This is for the restaurant section of Tomo specifically.TL;DR: restaurant was playing creepy music, staff was inattentive and on their phones, the food wasnt worth the price. Get the dumplings thoughWe walked in and the hostess was on her phone. We had to say something to be acknowledged, and only then were we seated. The prices are pretty high, so we were expecting really good food. Our waitress was really hard to get ahold of as she was on her phone or talking to other workers for a long time instead of taking our order. Tried to talk to the hostess or the bartender to get served, but they were both also on their phones. When she did pay attention to us, she was very nice. She even agreed to change the music for us. For whatever reason, they were playing a creepy instrumental lullaby on repeat- the kind that you would find in a wind-up mobile for a crib. The kind you would hear in a horror movie right before a ghost child jumped out of nowhere. I dont even know where they found that music. The salad was full of water which I really didnt understand, but I got a separate bowl, poured most of the water out of the salad, then tried to eat it. It was ok. The soup was good, the dumplings were great. We got the California, Philly, and eel roll combo. The sushi was fine but only worth about half the price. The eel sauce tasted like plastic (and I usually love eel rolls). We also split a hibachi entree which tasted fine but again was worth nowhere near the price. We tried to pay with our Groupon only to find out that they werent accepting the Groupon that they had created until a later date. The drinks were reasonably priced, though which was good because we definitely needed them.
Went for a late afternoon lunch, only people in the restaurant. Our plates were dirty when we sat down, asked for new ones. Server said it was her 3rd day, barely understood what we were saying/ordering. My friend asked for a vodka lemonade, she just brought lemonade then stuttered as we sent it back requesting the correct drink. Ordered the chef choice sashimi and several rolls. Horrific. Sashimi was FROZEN and completely inedible. Rolls mediocre at best. Between the waitress and the food, absolutely horrific and unacceptable sushi experience. The only thing they did right was not charge us for all the food we sent back. This is my third horrible experience with Tomo. Will never return. Many other places in tremont/Cleveland area worth spending your money at. This place is not one of them.
I dont even know where to begin. We arrived at 6:15 pm on the day of the Taylor Swift concert. We fully expected to be done within 1 hour and make it to the concert in time for the openers. We ordered multiple maki rolls and fried rice. The Shrimp Fried rice was fine, nothing special but my wifes Chicken fried rice had maybe 2 pieces of chicken in it. Our server then told us our rolls will take a little longer than normal because they only had one sushi chef today (why they would do that with the concert going on is beyond me). Needless to say it took over an hour for our rolls to arrive. Not only that but they tasted no better than grocery store/mall Sushi. Because of the long delay and poor food we actually left before our last roll arrived. Over $120 spent on poor food, poor service and we missed the first 2 acts of the concert.
Was very dissapointed with Tomo, made reservations for a hibachi table at 9pm on saturday showed up at 8:50 pm and was asked if we minded sitting at the bar until our table was cleaned up. The place was practically empty at that point but we sat at the bar waiting for almost 40 mins and stepped outside to smoke after we had a couple beers. Before we went outside we told the bartender and the hostess by the front door that we have been waiting for our table reservation since 9pm. As we are outside another couple walks in and gets seated right away so we go back inside sit back down at the bar and ask whats going on. They sit us at the same hibachi table as the couple that came in 45 minutes after us. I felt as if they had us wait so they didnt have to run a hibachi table with only two seats occupied. The portions were not even at all. My fiance had gotten half a scoop of fried rice while others got almost two scoops. They brought out 2 steaks to split in between 3 combination orders and 4 chicken breast to split on 4 orders and one person ordered a full chicken meal. I ate my whole plate with no extra left. At the end of the night my hibachi check came to about $75 plus a 18% added gratuity. Not to mention i spent a easy $20 at the bar plus another $10 to park close by. We werent apologized to or anything for our wait. If you want hibachi thats worth the expense. Go to wasabi in beachwood. The experiance is definitly worth the value and you get quality meats. Not too mention ive never finished a whole plate at wasabi. Very bad experiance at Tomo. Cant see myself going back.
I when out for a Friday night. Once I arrived a $10 cover charger which was not that bad per person. The four people I had with me all got beers and they were all charger a gratuity for four people. Then we got a hookah at $26 hookah. Then the hookah head fell due to their employee and my girlfriend was burnt and the owner still wouldnt give us are money back on the hookah. He wanted to charge us for the hookah head because it broke. I will never go back. STAY AWAY
We had reservation for 7:45pm. We arrived on time and the hostess was unsure if we could be seated for Hibachi (I called earlier that day to confirm that the reservation was for Hibachi). We were seated with two other couples, who had been waiting an hour and a half for their dining experience. Our Hibachi show did not begin until 8:30pm!!!! There was no excuse for this because the restaurant wasnt busy. The food was subpar, we got our veggies first then rice then protein, so our veggies sat and got cold while we waited for everything else. The other couples sitting with us had tickets for a show at 9pm, but were just leaving Tomo at 9 due to the ridiculous wait. And they had to pay full price for their food. If that was me, I wouldnt have paid. Dont waste your time or money. Theres better Hibachi places out there.
When they first opened, they were pretty good. Over the past year it has gone down the tubes. Last time I went, the service was horrible (I had to pick up my own sushi from the sushi bar after it sat there for 25 minutes, waited 20 minutes for change from paying my bill, and more)...the server added gratuity of 18% to our bill for a party of 3...despite the worst service ever. The food made me sick. I wont go back.
OVER PRICED, AVERAGE QUALITY FOOD AND SMALL PORTIONS compared to other hibachi restaurants. OWNER was some fat Russian guy and is very DISRESPECTFUL. Our server was nice even though she wasnt knowledgeable/trained well on their restaurants policys. Asked her to inform us about the policy on purchasing their groupons before we even ordered drinks. She told us we can use ONE PER BILL. My table all purchases groupons and we went to pay our bill after eating and she tells us she made a mistake and we can only use ONE PER TABLE. She gets the owner and the owner tells us that she never said one per bill because he didnt train her like that. He called us liars to our face even after our waiter admitted to us what she said and apologized. Wont ever come here again. Bad business, skimp portions, and a rude owner. Would 100% take Wasabi over them.
Visited tomo tonight, My friend and I. We had hibachi and then paid our bills and moved to the bar for drinks. We sat down and order a shot and then ordered a hookah. 35 minutes later our hookah came after actually a few times when it was coming. Our hookah came out, an important piece was missing off of it and the owner came over and fixed it for us. We began to smoke it and watch the bubbles form at the bottom of the hookah. This was when we realized that there was stuff floating around in the water. We looked closer and saw that it was mold! We told the bartender and she acted carelessly while saying she would bring us a new one. Now that we have spent our entire night there I told her to just take it off of our bill for us and we were leaving. The owner came over and we complained and his response to my concern was Next time dont buy the hookah. The most awful encounter Ive ever had with a business owner, let alone one in such an area, a prime part of down town! We told him that we were leaving and I refused to pay for our drinks. He claimed that was theft and said that we werent leaving without paying. We asked if he was going to force us to stay and he said he was going to do so and call the police. He called the police and when we tried to walk outside where we felt safe, he barricaded the door with his 63 300lb body. THIS was the most inappropriate experiences Ive ever had! I will never go back to this establishment and direct all else not to either!$20 worth of drink from customers who just spend $150 on dinner then were served moldy hookah IS NOT WORTH THE FIGHT! Worst customer service ever! Not only that but to put customers in fear like that really blows my mind! DO NOT EAT HERE!
Got a groupon to this place. It was very unprofessional, the bartender was wasted and took 4 shots before even acknowledging us. Got the sushi they charged me for the wrong roll which so happened to be 5 dollar more expensive and I already feel sick from the fish. DO NOT BOTHER.
I have given this restuant two chances, the first I had a reservation and I waited over two hours to be seated and the waiter took my credit card home at the end of the night... The second the hostess said there was food available... We sat at the bar for over Half an hour to get sushi only to be told that they no longer serve sushi!!! This restaurant has the worst customer service of any place in clevland and also the worst staff I will never go back, two chances is more than enough in my book. Dont waste your time.
Only a few people inside. Waitress did not know what tanqueray was. She was not sure if they carried miller light and my fiancee ordered a bacadi and diet, took a sip and almost spit it out. She asked the waitress what the drink was made with and she said 151. Who does that? Food was subpar, soup had no taste, chef barely talked. No free shrimp or sake. $155 bill. Will not be back.
I visited this resteraunt on mothers day no one looked happy to be at work no smiles we were greeted without names given we had to ask personally. I then went to use the restroom after a cocktail, the bathroom was old wooden and smelly right after I entered a mouse ran passed my feet trying to get out. I was so disgusted I left the resteraunt hoping the little mouse made it out the resteraunt and not into anyones meal. Trying to forget the disguse of yesterday I heated my meal up for lunch and after several bites there was strands of hair on my meal. So upset and in rage for the prices of the meals there should be better hospitality I would never return again. I wonder why they have the awesome Groupon deals. Please clean up and have your cooks wear nets Tomo.
Excellent place to enjoy hooka, great sushi, hibachi and food all around. Owner is typically around and always does his best to accomidate his customers. I have seen him go in the back and cook when the kitchen is closed and make fantastic meals just to see his customers smile.
Yuck. One of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. I came here on a Monday afternoon for lunch and the building was practically empty. Given this, one would think that the staff would be ultra attentive. Wrong. We waited for almost 40 minutes for our entreés, while the sushi chefs took their time. Again, we were one of the only customers at the time so this took us by surprise. When our sushi entreés arrived, mine particularly tasted bland and on the verge of expiration. I ordered the Cleveland Roll, which was relatively good in comparison to the Sashimi that I ordered on the side. The Sashimi was absolutely gross. The roe (fish eggs) were barely edible. The interior wasnt very well decorated either. The flat screen TVs that were placed throughout the building were hardly in working order and the air reeked of a musty odor. Its very shocking that a restaurant like this exists in the heart of downtown Cleveland. Especially given the swanky competitors that exist in the same general vicinity. All in all, my experience here was very average, non-impressionable and the price to value ratio was entirely off. Not worth the money, at all. I would recommend taking your money to Ginko in Tremont for fantastic quality and value, instead.
I wish I could find more positive things to say about this location but the food was not too good, the waiting was poor, the restaurant was under staffed, and their drinks were made poorly. I went for a birthday dinner and I can say that I will never visit again. It is clearly a management issue and I hope they improve.
Ive been in Tomo many times, I always have fun, I love the freshness and quality of the delicious Sushi and Japanese food. The service is excellent and many interesting people hangout at the bar and come dancing on weekends. Last weekend, they were several Browns and Cavs players hanging out at the Hookah Bar and everyone was having a great time.
Went here for a birthday dinner with some colleagues from work and would probably not go back. Sat at the bar for 15 mins with no one even speaking to us let alone ask us for water or to place an order. We were walked by several times with no acknowledgment by staff at the bar. Had Hibachi style dinner and service was extremely slow. One of my girlfriends waited 30+ mins for a long island iced tea. Food wasnt worth the wait.
Went for my daughters birthday. Did the hibachi. We split plates. Server Nettle never told us it was a $10 fee to split plates. Money was not an issue on our end. Nettle charged us for teas we did not order. Manager tried to soothe it over with a glass of wine and $5. All of the EXTRA fees are not listed on the menu. Very disappointed. When I asked the server Nettle why she did not disclose the EXTRA fees she stated she will not engage. We spent over $300 including gratuity with a party of 8. They worked the table for real for real. Very sad that they did this. And the other hibachi places in cleveland are the same. #creepyppl #darkenergy #wegods #kemet #karma #notnewtothis #workingclass
Disrespectful staffing poor skills in handling situations and issues. My phone was stolen at this establishment and no one helped and I was thrown out of this business for no reason at all. So I lost a phone and I was thrown out not a great way to handle things. No stars I would not and will not support this place.
My best friend and I have monthly sushi dates at various restaurants in greater Cleveland and this is by far one of the best places we have been to. It was very quiet, the staff was very nice, the drinks were good and the sushi was excellent. I will definitely frequent this place!!
This place just wasnt a habachi kitchen, it was also a bar and hookah bar as well, which is awesome because my girlfriend and I love hookah as well as food our hibachi chef was super funny, nice and made the food as quick as possible. The bartender was very nice and helpful as well
Wont go back chicken was way over cooked, dont know how you could mess up chicken pretty easy thing to cook. chef made offensive comments to my girlfriend too, obviously we came in as a couple, real nice tomo thanks a lot! glad I paid 85 dollars for us to eat and have an 11 dollar tip automatically included, which I would not have given our waiter he was rushing the whole time and elbowed me in the head twice
Would give 0 but there was no option. Looks like jail food and tastes disgusting. We were looking forward to it because of the higher price range, but totally 100% not worth it at all. The noodles looked like mashed potatoes and the rice had multiple chunks of undercooked rice.
Tomo is one of the best restaurants that Ive had the pleasure of experiencing in downtown Cleveland. Their service was and always is amazing and quite joyous and their food is incredible; from the sushi to the hibachi to the magnificent desserts and fine drinks. My favorite meals are either between the Boston Rolls with an order of Seaweed salad or the Hibachi Filet Mignon. I havent gathered the courage to try one of their exotic dishes yet! Maybe one day Ill try the Alligator Tail Steak or the Snake!Overall, this place is amazing! From the Sushi, to the HIbachi, to the Hookahs, and to the Lounge!
Very poor service and I will never go back! I went last night with my husband... The waitress we had new nothing about the menu or drinks... The chef became to personal with us and asked me if I liked to swallow!!! Very unprofessional place to be and I will never go back!!
Short version: cook harassed us, manager took his sideWe had our cook spill alcohol on my chest said nothing about it. Then continue to harass us thought the cooking process. He told us he was going to give us less food and that he was going to burn our food. When we talked to the manager Stophia. She said that shes sure he didnt do it on purpose and there was nothing she could do about it. She was very rude and even laughed at us.
So we had a great Halloween party last night at Tomo, the place is nice, but the owner was an a**hole, he had a middle eastern costume on which is okay, but he had a fake BOMB in his hand! So I walked to him and I said” I love the idea of being arab, but being arab and a Terrorist is two different things” so he start to say some arabic words to me and pretending that he’s middle eastern! And when I told him that I’m middle eastern myself, he got all rude about it and then he tried to make fun of me and my outfit! So I just left him and let it go because I was trying to have fun with my friends.
Tomo is a great place for Japanese food if you are in downtown Cleveland. They have some very entertaining Hibachi Chefs and the food is very reasonably priced and quite good. The atmosphere is fun and they even have a dance floor and Hookah Lounge upstairs where some of the Cleveland Browns hangout. Good service, Great Food and Entertainment., I look forward to going back to Tomo.
Ive never tried this place before but my friend really wanted to go tonight, however, A conversation I had with the manager earlier today turned me away FOR GOOD! I am severely allergic to MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and me asking if they had this ingredient in their food turned into a huge ordeal! The conversation is below:Me: Hello, I was wondering if you have MSG or Monosodium Glutamate in your food?Manager: Uhmm I dont know what that isMe: It is a flavor additive that many Asian style restaurants use.Manager: Well we are Hibachi...soooo.... yeah...Me: Well I was just wondering if you could check the ingredients for me because I am highly allergic to it and I was thinking of coming there tonight.Manager: Well what is it in? I cant just check every menu itemMe: It could be in anything but I am particularly interested in the Sushi.Manager: Well you will have to be more specific than that because Sushi has Rice, Seaweed, fish, and all of that.Me: Could I just talk to a manager? They would probably know because MSG is a very common allergy and they probably get asked all the time.Manager: I am the manager and Ive never been asked that question before.Me: Okay, nevermind I will just find somewhere else to eat tonightManager: Okay Thank-you, Buh bye.His tone was so snarky. I love Asian style meals but I always have to be careful about going to the restaurants because there are places that cook with MSG. Every time I have ever called any restaurant, the workers immediately know what MSG is and if they have it in their food. One of my favorite restaurants has it written on their menu in big bold letters, NO MSG, just because they know it is a very common allergy. Never been treated like this before just for asking... and because of this, I wont even give this place a 2nd look, whether they use MSG in their food or not.
First let me start off by saying my mission to find Sushi Rock downtown ended up in me stumbling into Tomo. Since I was hell bent on Sushi that night I was determined to try Tomo. Hmmm what can I say........?The waiter was the nicest thing there. Had to be in order to push off a dish that was going to leave me thinking horrible things about Sushi soon after I bit into it. Lets say this....the seaweed was Sooo Overdone!Stale in fact! Wow! Sticky rice? What sticky Rice? Nasty and $40 for Crap

2022-03-14The food was ready quickly and it wasnt bad. A bit pricey but the over all was good. We ordered Hibachi and gyoza. 4 stars for the price. I could get the same meal for less elsewhere.

2021-11-14I was disappointed with the food. The Geisha roll was $19 and I just dont think the quality or size match the price compared to the multiple other sushi restaurants Ive ordered from. The spring rolls were okay. I dont often post negative feedback and I should have read reviews prior to ordering. Will not be choosing this place again 😔

2022-03-02Look, I’m giving this three stars but it’s a very solid and friendly three stars. I go here every few months. I always enjoy my self. Is it the best sushi or hibachi I have ever had? No. Is it pretty good, reasonably priced, fun and never too busy? Yep! I like it enough to keep going and never regret it. Give it a go!

2022-05-22Reservation: 6:30I Arrived at 6:30, I was not acknowledged for 15mins, so I took matters into my own hands; I asked to be seated, because I had a reservation (6:52 seated by a guy).I sat and waited for someone to come over and greet me. At 7:21 I was fed up and nicely asked the guy there if a server was available in our section. He then asked the bartender (who apparently was a manager) and she tells him to “ask a server”…so he did, then told us it would be even more time for her to get to us and then Samantha came over 10 minutes later (7:32). Samantha mumbles “I can take your order if you guys want to” as if we didn’t have time to be ready… and then some. 🤦♀️ We wanted to stay for another round of drinks but our bill was pushed on us. After review of the bills, the present issue still wasn’t addressed, so I asked if there would be any compensation? I wanted acknowledgement of our 45 min wait and lack of service received. Samantha said she was going to ask her manager. When she returns, barely 5 minutes later, she had nothing for us, specifically “there’s nothing we can do” according to the manager but tried to offer soup and salad last minute.Overall I am very disappointed in the service received, I have worked in the service industry so I am understanding but to be ignored was just lazy and rude. I will not return.

2022-07-19The food was decent. Service was lacking. The one woman there running the place was awesome, however, they seemed to not have any chefs. We had an 8 pm reservation and didnt see salads until 9pm.

2022-04-15My family went to Tomo this evening. We made a reservation and were excited for an evening of family fun. We were seated offset to the hibachi grill even though we were the only four in the area that could accommodate 8. We ordered and the chef came out. The hibachi chef barely interacted with our family. He bounced between two grills. On the other grill, away from our family he cooked the rice, seafood, and all the meat. On our side, he cooked the vegetables, which he just tossed on there and let them be most of the time. He lit the fire and claimed to have created a volcano but it was the saddest one I had ever seen. Just because you say volcano and light a fire doesn’t mean you actually did that correctly. I spoke with our waitress about this and she quickly dismissed me and told me the chef would be back around to our grill. This in fact did not happen. When I shared my concern again, I was quickly dismissed. I spoke up a third time about our lack of hibachi experience and tried to give feedback so this would not happen to any other family. I shared my sadness because my young children did not get the same experience as the family next to us. She started to dismiss me again. There was no apology to me or my family. There was no financial compensation offered to offset our lack of experience. This place was way over priced in the first place. We asked for the bill and she put her own tip, even though the menu clearly stated they would add 18% for parties of 6 or more. I have never had such an awful experience at a restaurant in my entire life. I urge you all to steer clear of the place. You will be utterly disappointed. I feel sorry for the owner of this establishment and anyone else who walks through those doors. Stay away!

2022-06-19The staff was great and very helpful and friendly. The food was sub-par in comparison to a local place at the third of the price. I had shark and it was over cooked and dry and another member of the party had swordfish and it was the same as well. Way over priced for the low quality.

2022-03-13Terrible service, waited an hour for a cook. One chef for two families and Our food was shared with the other family. The rice and veggies were cold by the time he made it back to cook our meat. Smallest portions Ive ever had food was cold Terrible service send the father of the family had to divy up his veggies to his children. Was overpriced I will never go here again.

2017-09-05We were the only diners at 4:15 so we got great service! Able to park right out front at a meter. We ordered Sashimi and Hibachi Scallops, our Hibachi chef was fun, and the food was tasty. The only drawback was lack of patrons and the odor was a bit heavy as was the salad dressing, too much for the salad size.I guess Friday and Saturday evenings are hoping!
