Looks unassuming from the outside but this place is truly outstanding! Ive ordered sushi from here a couple times but have never gone in and the inside blew me away. Great atmosphere and very nice decor. We got the all you can eat sushi lunch special which was only $16.95 a person! All of it was delicious but I was definitely struggling to finish by the end. They do charge for leftover food on your plate so be careful of how much you order! Definitely will be coming back here soon, just very impressed overall.
My expectations were pretty low when I walked in. I was pleasantly surprised.Rolls are made to order, so they are nice and fresh. The sushi rice was mediocre, but the fish was fresh and clean.Service was pleasant and efficient.Ill probably go back for lunch because they have some nice specials.
You wouldn’t think too much of this place from the outside, I know I didn’t for the longest time! I decided to give it a shot about a month ago and I’m so glad that I did. I’ve only ever ordered sushi from here, but it’s always delicious and is very affordable as far as sushi goes
Always a fantastic meal with great service. We got our meal quickly. Everything is served hot and it is the best hibachi around! You get soup AND salad! Rice and vegetables are to die for along with your protein of choice! We went on Mothers Day and they even gave us a beautiful carnation! Wonderful touch!!
Update: 6-12-22I previously gave Toko a 5 star rating. We ate here on Saturday 6-11-22 at 7pm. Im not sure what happened since we ate here previously but the sushi was not the same quality as before and the hibachi was about the same except it came out cold. How do you screw up hibachi? Also in my opinion it has become super overpriced. I had the filet hibachi and my wife had the chicken and vegetable hibachi. We shared one volcano roll and had one soft drink each. The bill was $63.00! You can buy a lot of food for $63 even in todays economy. Wont be back.We used to eat at the Toko restaurant in nearby Streetsboro, Ohio since it was open long before the Kent location. We liked it better than Kent because their sushi always seemed better, but we recently started going back to Kent for closeness and convenience to our home. Im not sure if they got a new sushi chef or what, but now the sushi is probably the best weve had in years. For us hibachi is pretty much the same everywhere, but the sushi is the deciding factor when it comes to Japanese food. If you like sushi you really need to check out Toko in Kent, Ohio. They also offer an all you can eat menu for $20.99 that includes selected options of sushi along with hibachi.
I enjoyed my meal here, the food was good and came out of the kitchen very quickly even though the restaurant was kinda busy. The only thing Id nitpick was the amount of hibachi I received as normally for the price Id get a much larger portion. However, it was very tasty.
The sushi was really not much to brag about. They went incredibly light on the meat in my rolls and stuffed the rest of it full of panko. Tuna didnt taste fresh, and ultimately incredibly dry. Most of the reviews on here are about their hibachi, and they look great. If youre ordering from here, I would strongly recommend you go that route.
As a GrubHub Driver I frequent the place... seems like everybody and their mom wants sushi rolls around here. Thet are now open for dine in and have a All You Can Eat Sushi option. For around 16 bucks or so a person for lunch and 22 or so for dinner. But Beware!!!! If your eyes are bigger then your stomach your gonna have to play the price which is .80 cents per piece. Rolls usually come in anywhere from 4 pieces and 8. There are no pictures just a white sheet you that you mark each one you want to try. They have little appetizers and for 3 bucks more you can get an entree like for example the best General Tsos chicken or even steak or shrimp served with sauteed onions mushrooms and rice. So you are basically ordering blind which makes things interesting... dont be like me and order 5 sushi rolls, 2 appetizers, and shrimp entree. 5 rolls came to 29 pieces...plus the shrimp, onions, and apples. I had 10 peices left over...lolAlso, You can order off the regular menu just incase your not feeling so brave!!!Dont say I didnt try and warn you though.Let them know you read my review... maybe they will go out of their way and read it, too. Also, my waiter was a young man... he was new and very sweet. We tipped him well!!!!
Honestly super disappointed that toko has yet to re open for dining, I used to go once or twice a month with my girlfriend for some all you can eat sushi and hibachi. Now with them being take out only the good food and service we used to know is now non existant. They used to be the best hibachi and sushi in town now I just cant bring myself to spend the money on it and probably wont till they re open for dining.
Right now they are only doing carry out service. The service was quick from the time I ordered until it was ready to go. Ive also eaten here when you were able to dine in. They dont do the hibachi cooking in front of you so no show if you are in yo that sort of thing. The food is very good and the staff is friendly.
Service was fantastic! Our waitress was very personable and polite. However, the sushi was by far the worst I’ve ever had. The octopus was nearing its way out, and definitely should not have been served. Very thick cuts of fish, salty salty underdone rice, and overall a nightmare to eat. I had the all you can eat sushi and powered through it to avoid paying extra costs. Not sure if the chef was newer and unknowing, but a very bad experience.
This is my favorite Asian restaurant. The food is always really good. I highly recommend the crab ragoons with the orange dipping sauce. I love the endless sushi for only twenty dollars a person. Everything tastes great! It can get busy there so sometimes the waiters are neglectful but the food is awesome, I eat there frequently.
Food was great, love their sushi. We ordered a bento box though and got charged more than what it said on the website. 8.50 is a good price for, we were charged 10.95. I didnt realize until I got home, Im sure they would have fixed it if I said something. Just pay attention to your bill. Waitress was extremely friendly. Great place, definitely will be going back.
We eat here at least once a month, sometimes twice. Once you get past the unkept landscaping and outdated decor youre in for a treat. The food and service are worth the trip. The Hibachi is excellent, the menu dishes are awesome, and the sushi is well prepared and fresh. Service may be slow on a Friday or Saturday night, but they usually make up for it with a gratis dessert. Toko has become one of our favorites!
Definitely a great place to go if you want a date night, or just to have a nice treat amongst friends or family. The staff is very courteous, and you always get seated quickly. The food is delicious and always filling. The miso soup itself is my main reason of going. I cant get enough. The steak hibachi is my go to.They also have these little lime candies for after your meal. From start to finish of service, I say 5 stars arent enough. Everyone I bring to this place always wants to come back.
My husband and I went for dinner and both got sushi. Neither of us had any issue with anything we ordered. The service was great, the food good, overall I would come back. Im not sure why people have a problem with paying for what you dont eat; the prices arent unreasonable, and just dont be wasteful in the first place and its a non-issue.
The web site stated that during the pandemic all safety precautions were being followed including all staff wearing masks and gloves. Feeling confident, we placed a large sushi order on Friday 7/10 at 6:00pm. When we arrived, there was no one at the inside pickup window so we waited. We observed that the chefs cooking and preparing food did not have masks on. My son mentioned it to the hostess, who did have on a mask, and she said she had not noticed that the chefs were not wearing masks. We left the place, unhappy, without our order and do not feel comfortable returning.
Toko is my fave. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a few years now and the quality is the same as it’s always been. Great!! We have tried many things from the menu in this time and there isn’t much we don’t like. Smoked salmon is amazing. Their spicy mayo is perfect. The rolls are always tight and put together well. Honestly never had any complaints coming here with the food or service. They’re A++
Quality of service was low because it seemed as though half the waitresses hardly spoken English which meant you have to repeat your self in order to make sure your order got done correctly. I also feel as though the amount of food you get verse the price isnt there. The quantity of food is very limited for $15 a plate of chicken and shrimp hibachi.
Really great food here! You can get your typical Asian food if youre not a fan of Hibachi, but they have a great deal that comes with soup, salad, and Hibachi with white steamed rice. We are excited to come back and try the all you can eat Sushi deal. The only complaint I had was that the salad was drenched in dressing, I wish they gave it on the side.
Ok, I LOVE sushi, cant get enough of it. I had the all you can eat special and was actually sated. The wasabi was amazing (and yes its not authentic just about anywhere in America, its still savory and HOT)I highly recommend you try this place out if you like authentic sushi done right. The portions are smaller than other places, but the all you can eat buffet makes that point moot!
When I was like 15 I was riding my bike from Ravenna back to Kent on the hottest day of the year and I stoped here to ask for water because I was on the verge of heat stroke and I needed water bad and they noticed and gave me plenty for free water and even a free meal you thank you guys so much it really save me as a broke 15 year old
Went for lunch today, had the AYCE lunch special. Sushi was mediocre at best, fish quality was so so, avocados were over ripe and brown on the displayed edges. One person in my party is allergic to mushrooms - the server was told 3 times, yet she still brought him soup garnished with mushrooms and then brought him steak hibachi with only mushrooms and steak. When it was sent back, the chefs could be heard audibly laughing through the restaurant at the servers instructions. They did not prepare the remake properly - it came with only steak and no other vegetables and proceeded to give him an allergic reaction because they did not use a clean cooking surface. He is fine, but Toko showed a blatant disregard for food safety.Given the price per head was over $20 with tip, even though it was All You Can Eat, I would not waste my money returning there. Given that this is in a college town (Kent State), Im betting a lot of the people giving this place raving reviews dont have any idea what good sushi really is.
We had a taste for sushi and seaweed salad, and there arent too many places locally... so we ordered take out in order to be able to enjoy it at home (It was a subzero temps day and we didnt really want to go out). Therefore, I cannot comment on the seating area of the restaurant as I only saw the lobby and pick up desk area. It looked like a comfortable, cozy sort of place inside though. The food was good. Prepared as wed expect for quality Japanese cuisine. We had the seaweed salad, miso soup, fircracker roll, and crazy tuna roll. We will return the next time we are in the mood for sushi. :-)
Saying this place is awful is an understatement. We were sat at a table that was still sticky and covered in sauce from previous customers. The sheet given to me to fill in what sushi I wanted was even dirty which is crazy considering every customer gets a new sheet. We tried the unlimited sushi deal because it seemed like a great deal....if the sushi was actually edible. I have never had such awful sushi like I did at toko. I was like a 5 year old having to discreetly spit food into my napkin in public. Needless to say we left a lot of uneaten sushi.
I visited around noon on a Friday. Place was empty except for several employees. Very nice environment. Friendly and accommodating staff. An error with the order landed us a plate of food we didnt ask for instead of our order. This was quickly and politely corrected. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I have no clue which of the culinary geniuses at Toko in Kent made the Magic roll, but its by far the best sushi roll Ive ever eaten. Everytime I go there I always get it and I always leave an incredibly satisfied customer. If you go here you HAVE to try the magic roll.
Toko is my go-to sushi place for eating in or taking out. There is nothing particularly great or bad about this place... it is your typical Japanese restaurant. The sushi is good and its the same price as sushi is pretty much anywhere ($5-6 for normal rolls and $11-13 for special rolls). They also serve teriyaki and hibachi style plates, but not hibachi like the kind where they cook in front of you. They dont have a liquor license, so theres no alcohol there. They do an all you can eat for $20 deal for dinner, but you have to pay for anything you dont eat. They have a similar special for lunch (I think its around $13) except on Sundays.
This place is very good. Perfect example of dont judge a book by its cover. The outside looks like a vacant buildling but the inside bar is new and the rest of the inside is not bad. The staff is friendly, just not good English and they had a hard time understanding us. The food is very good. Not the absolute best Hibatchi Ive ever had but it is still good. I will go back again.
Im officially never eating here again. I used to go all the time, but about 2 years ago I found a small black worm in a piece of salmon. I reluctantly went back about a year and a half later after friends talked me into it. Its been good for several months but the last time I went there, I got the sushi I normally get. I ate one piece and I smelled something fishy. I didnt think too much of it so I ate another piece, and smelled it again. Then I took a good whiff of what was left on my plate and it all smelled like old fish. It ruined my appetite, and I sent the food back. Later that night it also ruined my stomach.
Stingy portions. There was suppose to be 9 pieces of fish in a sushimi appetizer and they gave me 6. It did not even come with white raddish which is standard for most sashimi orders at most sushi places. For some fried Calamari they gave me about 6-8 rings. The items were not low price to justify being stingy with the food and it was not that good. On the menu they have a so called all you can eat lunch special. There were limits on what one could actually get which is not all you can eat and they fine people extra money for wastage if they do not clean their plate even if the food is bad. Stay away.
Their $19.99 all-you-can-eat sushi deal is the GREATEST. Maki rolls, sashimi, even appetizers are included, and for a few bucks extra, you can even get hibachi items too. Sushi is all made to order, fresh as can be. The only other AYCE sushi I know of around here is Yellowtail, and Tokos sushi is better hands-down. They have a system of extra charges for uneaten items, but theyre clearly explained on the menu, and I believe you can order more than once, so start small and go back for seconds if you like, and you should never have that problem. Seriously though, if youre a sushi fan in any capacity, you absolutely must try this place.
It’s Labor Day. During lunch hours we were told that because is Labor Day we’d have to pay dinner prices making everything over priced. It’s in an old ponderosa that went out of business years ago and they haven’t updated the upholstery or most of they decor. Their all you can eat sushi is $21 a person and if you don’t finish something you get charged for not eating it. I payed for my drink and left without eating.
Portions are pretty small for the price of the Hibachi meals and the all-you-can-eat buffet is a very confusing menu with limited numbers of things you can get and you have to pay extra amounts to take leftovers with you the food is good but not for what they charge for Hibachi meals when theyre not cooking it in front of you like they do at other Hibachi steak houses

2022-02-05First time order from them and I ordered through DoorDash. I got the steak and scallops hibachi and it came with veggies and fried rice and soup and salad. I also got crab Rangoon and dragon sushi roll. I will definitely order from here again! Flavor was amazing and packaged very well ! I ate some of the food before this pic so you do get more than what u see in this pic lol

2022-04-29Good food. However, their new policy about 2-3 rolls per order IS NOT an ask. I tried to order 4 and they flat out said no. Ive been coming here for a long time and this will likely be my last time. $30 all you can eat shouldnt have an asterisk.

2022-02-21Taste: 5 starsValue: 0 starsTo be fair, the food I received was delicious. So good. But I would not order from here again unless this issue is addressed.I ordered takeout. Crab Rangoon and chicken hibachi. I was charged full price, but curiously, only received a small percentage of the chicken hibachi meal. As in, just over 1/2 cup of cooked rice, 5 pieces of vegetables, and a small handful of chicken. (The right side of the small section of the takeout container). If I’m paying full price for a meal, takeout or not, I better receive the full portion of food.

2022-05-14Visiting here from out of town! It was a great experience! The customer service was on point and we got our food in a timely manner! The dinner portion size of hibachi was very fulfilling, not too much but not too little. If we visit again, we will be back here for sure!

2022-05-02We got bento boxes for lunch— good value for standard Japanese fare.Getting charged for seltzer water was a bit of a bummer. Otherwise ok spot.

2021-09-24This place consistently has great service. I usually get the General Tsos Chicken, which is excellent here. In fact, I go here specifically for the General Tsos Chicken because its the best Ive had anywhere in a 30 mile radius.

2022-05-28After placing my online order for the convenience of picking up my order and not having to wait, I was told that they never got my order number in their system. This was after she tried to make me get a app to view the order. I ended up waiting for my New York strip hibachi and receiving a overcooked steak. The steak was suppose to me med rare but was more along the lines of med well . The rice and appetizer that I ordered were very good though. When I had called the store I was told I was was wrong and that she made the steak herself. However this is not possible because she was on the phone with a customer.

2022-07-01Ordered one of the Bento boxes. Salmon was way overdone yet the veggies with it were underdone. California roll had some type of underripe veg in it - like celery or cuc?? the avocado was ripe tho. Best parts were the egg rolls and side salad. Maybe it was an off night for them so I will try them one more times.UPDATE - so I gave Toko a second try, this time I got the Shrimp Bento box. Shrimp was overcooked even tho I requested it to be slightly cooked, veggies underdone again. Sushi was better this time.I really need to find me some super good Japanese take out, going to NY to get the good food is just not possible LoL

2022-07-19They messed up my order over the phone. I called to see if I could exchange it for what I ordered. The lady yelled and said it was my fault for not speaking up and to bring the food back to her. I did and she was nasty mean the whole time. Just wanted my sushi man.
