The Syndicate in other cities:
My wife and I had dinner early the other night. We had heard about the restaurant from our son (we all are from Marysville) and how good it was. On his advice I had the shrimp & grits and my wife had the pork chop with purée sweet potatoes and steamed spinach. Both meals were excellent! We have traveled extensively and would rank this restaurant as one of the best we have eaten at. Our server, Lane was attentive and informative adding to the experience. Jesse, the manager also spent some time with us answering all of our questions and giving us background on the restaurant. We ordered shrimp & grits to go to take back to our son and daughter-in-law as a reward for such a great recommendation! We will make a point of going back soon and bringing friends with us!
Was in this past weekend, I really loved the upbeat atmosphere, good music, it was pretty busy. We didn’t have a reservation so we thought there’d be a wait but nope! We got right in. I had the shrimp and grits which was so good! My girl friend had the filets which were cooked well. I will say the the guy walking around the floor was somewhat off putting, he introduced himself to us, I think he was general manger? He seemed to be frustrated with our waitress over one of her other tables and was being somewhat unkind to her, from what we saw. In my opinion she was doing great for how busy it was! But she seemed stressed after his rude comments... he was just kind of invasive during our meal. We are talking about coming back this summer for dinner and one of their concerts, looking forward to it, but hope the manager isn’t their to ruin the vibe.
Solid Food / Sub-Par ServiceWe placed a pickup order and our review will reflect a terrible pickup experience but pretty good food. We’d ordered through The Syndicate’s website. Our pickup time was just before 9pm on a Friday night. (They say they’re open till 1am, but not sure if that’s food or the venue?) We accidentally arrived early and the place looked dead - literally no customers - so I decided to go up and check on our order. When I tried the doors, they were all locked. So we waited till our pickup time and the doors were still locked. I then called the restaurant and no one answered. They called me back within 2 minutes. I explained the situation and he said they lock the doors when they’re slow, but was apologetic and met me outside with our order. Our food did seem to have been done for a while; it was lukewarm at best.Otherwise, it is about the best food we’ve had in this area. We had 2 adult entrees, a kid’s entree, an app and a dessert. Try the Brussels sprouts - they were seasoned unlike any others I’ve had and were delightful. The fries seem hand-cut, on the thinner side and were pretty good. The sirloin/smashed potatoes/asparagus meal is solid - not poorly done, but not particularly stand-out. The flourless chocolate dessert is almost more like a baked pudding - much less form than most others I’ve tried.Like others have said, for the money spent we’ll probably still head to Columbus, especially after this bizarre experience. But if you’re looking for decent food, can’t get to C-bus, and don’t mind spending a bit more than you might’ve, this is the place.
Not good. Here were the issues tonight1. Sat right away and got drinks quick…. BUT We waited an hour for the main course food. Several other tables, including another table of family, showed up later and received their food first. Not just first though… they sat down 15 min after us and had paid before we saw our meals. Obviously there was a huge kitchen issue that wasn’t explained.2. After waiting an hour for food, 5 of the 6 meals weren’t right (the 6th was ok). Most of the table ordered steaks but none were done anywhere near correctly. We got the feeling the kitchen was new and confused (maybe high school kids being trained?).3. We didn’t want to but had to send one of the steaks back. The manager took it back and returned with an equally poorly cooked steak. But at that point, we just wanted to get out of there.4. This was a $260 bill that was a big disappointment. The waitress didn’t or couldn’t offer anything to right the bad experience but said the manager would be over. I wouldn’t have paid $100 for that night.5. The manager did eventually walk over, and apologize. Then gave us a $20 gift card for next time.. no thanks. Won’t be back. This was for our parents 30 year anniversary and we spent part of the night apologizing to them for such a bad experience. We could tolerate a wait but a long wait for a mess is tough. No thanks, I wish I had all that money back. We got ripped off.
This might be may new favorite place. The atmosphere feels very modern and fresh. Our server (alana?) was one of the best Ive ever had. Her recommendations were fantastic. The food was divine, and I may be daydreaming about my perfectly cooked salmon. Sitting outside at sunset on our anniversary, made this an evening I dont think Ill forget. Im currently singing the Syndicates praises and making plans to go back with everyone I know.
Another fantastic dinner at The Syndicate! Excellent cocktails at the bar. A lively Cabernet chosen by Keith -the bar expert, along with a Smokey Old Fashion for the hubby. A delicious shrimp and grits with a chicken Marsala for the lady. (Me) it was a full house indeed, along with the Christmas tree lighting the way. Be sure and call for reservations and ask for Lane if you are lucky! Maybe we’ll see you there. Dave and Jan… oh yes! And the flourless chocolate dessert is highly recommended!🎄
I typically shy away from upscale places because I usually feel that they lack service. The Syndicate is definitely the exception. Great food. Excellent service. Quite possibly my all time favorite place. I came for the summer concert series but I keep coming back for everything else.
We had dinner here today & we were sorely disappointed. Our waitress looked annoyed from the moment we sat down until the second we left. It took nearly 20 minutes just to get acknowledged by the wait staff after we sat down. Our child got Mac & cheese with no cheese & zero flavor. My husband’s asparagus was basically charred & we asked for new water glasses because our original ones were dirty, our second set were no cleaner. Upon paying for our bill we noticed we were charged for soda refills when we asked our waitress about it we didn’t even get so much as an, “I’m sorry for overcharging you”. We spent almost $100 on three meals, for that price we really expected much better service & food to be honest. By the end of the night we became friendly with the table next to us & they told the waitress they hated their $22 sangria, they were tactful about it & kind but much to my honest shock were simply told, “I’m sorry.” I was so hopeful this place would’ve been on top of it & have awesome food because the atmosphere is awesome. Our small town needs a good local upscale restaurant but for a place that considers itself fine dining it was a major disappointment.
We tried The Syndicate a while back when some friends were in town. We were initially planning on breakfast at Waffle House but it was packed so we decided that even though The Syndicate was a little more expensive but figured it would do, plus there were drinks! After we got our menus, the waitress checked in on us, but instead of taking our orders asked us if the prices were ok. We thought this a super odd question and said yes, why would they be a problem. She then proceeds to tell us that some people in town think they are too high and have left after receiving their menus so she just wanted to make sure.Lets be straight, this came across extremely rude. Its unlikely that this is a question all patrons receive and we came to the conclusion that she was gauging our ability/desire to pay based on our appearance which was the only distinguishing factor between our group and others. She warmed up to us, becoming friendly and hospitable after confirming wed stay/pay and we enjoyed the food and drinks, but we dont have plans to eat here again in the near future.
Went there for date night to try because we had heard great things. Wasn’t overly impressed by the food or the prices. It is quite expensive for what they offer. Spinach dip was good but the baked pita chips were a little too hard for our liking. Dinner was just ok. I just expected a lot more. The atmosphere and the staff were extremely friendly and the drinks were great but the food overall was disappointing for the price. Probably won’t be back but was happy to try it.
We came for a wine and dine night. We dont drink alcohol but figured wed try the cuisine. We really liked the food even though some portions were incredibly small for a 4 course meal. They did a great job accommodating us when they knew we didnt drink. However, after paying more than $60 a ticket and NOT drinking any of the included wines, they still charged us for our strawberry lemonades.
Went out for a date night and the calamari was delicious, but the burger and steak/ potatoes had zero flavor. Disappointed in this being considered a fine dining restaurant when I was making better food than this in culinary school 10 years ago. Plus they didn’t even have half of the menu when we went, probably won’t return I’d rather drive to Columbus if I’m gonna spend that kind of money on dinner.
I have been to a large number of restaurants. However, none compares to The Syndicate in Bellefontaine Ohio. When we arrived for our 5:30 reservation, and we were greeted with a Happy Anniversary by the hostess. Then, when we went to our table, there was a hand-written card, signed by everybody in the Restaurant! Needless to say, we were blown away by the customer service. Then, we were enticed to try the new formulation for their Old Fashioned. It was simply amazing. Notice that I havent even mentioned the meal yet? Thats because while we were enjoying a cocktail, almost everybody working in the restaurant stopped by to personally wish us a happy anniversary and to see if we needed anything.By the way, the food was also fantastic! So, thank you, staff of The Syndicate, for making our 45th wedding anniversary very special. Especially Lane, Brian, and Lindsay. I am sorry, I have already forgotten the bar manager, but he also went above and beyond on our drinks. He even stopped by our table to share some of his secrets! Just ask, and The Syndicate responds. This restaurant has set the bar for excellence in dining experiences. We appreciate you,Steve and Paula Jackson
Girls night out was awesome at the Syndicate. We went for half price appitizers and drinks then ended up staying for dinner. We were seated in the front screened in area. I thought might be cold out there but it was warm and cozy. The food was terrific and our waiter Boris was so attentive and personable. Well be back again for sure.
Husband and I went in yesterday and had an AMAZING expereince. you cannot beat the food anywhere else in town! everything was made PERFECTLY. I had the Chicken Marsala and it was wonderful. The drink selection was extensive. Dessert was so great. The best part was the amazing service and personality of our waitress.
Went here for Valentines day dinner for the first time. The place was easy to get to and we had a reservation and we were seated immediately. Service came immediately and brought fresh bread and seasoned butter and took our drink orders. For entrees, I ordered the 16oz ribeye steak, mash and asparagus. It was cooked perfectly as i ordered it (medium rare) and it was melt in my mouth delicious. The mash potatoes were a pleasant surprise as they had a rich buttery, truffle flavor. My wife and I both said they were so good. My wife ordered the Cajun shrimp and cheesy grits with braised beef and poblano peppers. Wow this dish had amazing flavor with all of those elements mixed into one bite. The grits were smooth and the Cajun seasoning was bold but not hot. The braised beef was so tender and the poblanos added an extra depth of flavor. We also shared an order of Truffle fries which were cheesy and generous with truffle sauce and the fries were hot and crispy. So glad we found this place. We will definitely be back!
The Syndicate is a gorgeous restaurant and venue in Historic Downtown Bellefontaine. Loved the patio in front and also the expansive dining room and outdoor area. The food and drinks are amazing. I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Also, go for the lava cake for dessert. You wont be disappointed. Downtown Bellefontaine is a great day-trip destination. Lots to walk around, see and do.
We were there for Sunday brunch. Husband had the omelet and I had the hash. It was just OK. Omelet was fine. Not bad, but no extra sauces or anything to make it special. Hash was fair. Eggs were overcooked. Meat was salty. Ive had much better for a better price. Well try this place again, but not for brunch.
It was very quaint peaceful relaxed and a beautiful Sunday brunch with wonderful food and great service! And with live music you can sit on the patio and enjoy it is truly a delightful experience! Thank You Syndicate I have not had this much fun in a very long time it was truly awesome and the music was beyond great! 💯😷💥💥💥💥💥
What an awesome place to have in btown and what a crew you guys have assembled.Talk about planning and preparation. Everything was on point and flawless, from the building itself to the spinach dip to the beef/shrimp and grits to creme brulee and of course the wait staff. No more driving to cbus for an excellent meal. Angel was our waitress, and she was on top of it. We loved it. Thx everyone
Below average, and beyond compare.I love shopping local, and ESPECIALLY dinning local. Bellefontaine is well known for great food, and I’m well versed in being a fat guy! My issue isn’t that it was bad, my issue is that both times I’ve been (once for brunch, and once for dinner) the food was average, and actually to an extent, inedible. My first experience for brunch was uncooked chicken and waffles. Which was then met with some sort of weird expectation from the management staff. I was told “we’ve been having issues with the chicken not being cooked properly”. Which is cool, I get it! Just warn me before I dig in to it, so that I can at least check it and make sure it’s done. ESPECIALLY if it’s a known issue. As a response they handed me a gift card worth the value of my meal, which I in turn gave to my Dad as a way to curb the pricing deterrence he had for going there. Because let’s be honest, it’s not cheap. My second meal, I had the Shrimp and grits, and my girlfriend had french onion soup and a side salad. I can’t stress this enough; the bread and butter, as a courtesy appetizer, was the best part of our meal! The shrimp were extremely lackluster, the grits were ok, and the shredded beef on top was completely unseasoned. Her French onion soup tasted like sautéed onion water, and the salad had beautiful croutons and (what I would assume is) a house made ranch dressing that wasn’t awful. The biggest issue with this meal was, we neither one finished it because it was so mediocre. We paid the bill, and left a tip for our waiter (who was great by the way) for a swift loss of $60. And then moseyed our way to McDonalds to get something quick that at least met our price expectation. We finished our dinner with a medium fry split between us, and an aggregated conversation about how we should have just got a pizza.I’m only rating them two stars because I know members of the kitchen staff personally, and I know that they can do better. They have a VERY talented staff, and I hope that they listen. At least the lighting is pretty.
We just came from dinner at The Syndicate. We have had good previous dining experiences here, which is the reason for 3 stars. Tonight, we had a 6:30pm reservation, and, by 7:40, we were being rushed to leave due to a concert that was taking place at 9pm. My husband and son asked for another drink at 7:45, while I was finishing my meal, and they were declined. This was only an hour and 15 minutes after our reservation time. We were clearly being pushed out the door without so much as an apology. We have told many friends about The Syndicate, but, after tonights experience, Im not sure we will be back.
Went to The Syndicate for our first time eating the brunch and it was AMAZING!!! I had the Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffles 🧇 I could literally eat these all day, my husband had the Pecan French toast and he thought they were DELICIOUS 😋... Our server was awesome as well Kiara did an amazing job!!! We will definitely be coming back!!!
I attended the Soft Opening for The Syndicate and feel this place will be a gem for Bellefontaine and all of Logan County. From every little detail that went into putting this place together, the friendly staff, and the delicious food, this place is awesome. Do yourself a favor and make reservations to eat here. Great atmosphere, great people, and great food. Looking forward to going back and trying more items on the menu!
Kind waitress and bartenders. The place looks upscale, but the food is disappointing. It taste like the person cooking the food, hates cooking food. The atmosphere was chaotic and unsettling. The bill was outrageous and I left having only a few bites of my meal, as I really didnt care to eat anymore than that.
First time visiting this restaurant and all I can say is WOW!! Everything we had was fabulous! French onion soup, garden salad, chicken Marsala and Ribeye was all prepared perfectly and the waitress / staff was on top of everything. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!!!
I was visiting my 77 year old mother who lives near Bellfountaine along with my 70 year old uncle and my 32 year old son...Im in between them in age. Im a Foodie as well and go to a lot of restaurants. Point is this place not only had the modern cool vibe and decor for the cool kids but had some of the best food that not only a young hip person would like but some older folks too! Just what this small town needed.Brunch was awesome and to make the whole experience one that will bring us back was our waitress/ server LANE! She was attentive friendly and just great! Oh...I had a Bloody Mary that was delish! When I come in from Tampa the family WILL GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN and again....
Show canceled due to weather , no refund given. I understand if we wanted refund for not attending , but venue cancel and we don’t get refund. We would not recommend this place. When we spoke with Katie to ask if we could use tickets toward another show. She said no Poor business!!!!
(2/2) of review! If youre here from my Brewfontaine review, thanks for reading! If youre reading this for the first time, head over to Brewfonatines Google reviews to see more of why I give this establishment 1 star (and wish I could give it less than that!).It is with tremendous audacity that these men opened what was supposed to be a music venue right next door to the beloved Brewfontaine dubbed, the Syndicate. The Syndicate is no more a music venue than Brewfontaine itself. The city was promised a stage and an outdoor “beer garden,” but instead the owners have presented the public with another restaurant. Seems like a bad business move to open a competing restaurant next door to your prized family-friendly beer bar. However, as you might’ve gathered by now, these owners are all about bad business! Not only has this establishment been criticized for overpricing their uninspiring menu, but the word used again and again to describe the public’s overall experience at the Syndicate is “disappointing.” As such, the Syndicate is appropriately named if the common interest that Rammel and Co. is promoting is profit. This poor excuse for an “upscale” restaurant is nothing less than a feeble money grab contributing to the gentrification of Bellefontaine, Ohio.
Me, my boyfriend and my daughter went up to Bellefontaine for a fun meal on a weekend snowy trip from the Cincinnati area..we stayed in Urbana but we decided to drive the extra 25 minutes to try out the Syndicate...we were pleasantly surprised at how trendy it was w touches of yesteryear...our waitress Darian was so sweet and helpful in giving suggestions...we had the shrimp cocktail and spinach artichoke dip for a starter and both were delicioso! I would definitely recommend trying...my great grandfather owned his own daily newspaper in Indiana so eating somewhere w newsstand history made the meal even that more enjoyable...I would love to go back and sit at the nostalgic bar for a couple cocktails and meet some of the locals...
Service and food really rates six Stars, as long as the management continues the service and food which was more than adequate and made to order customers will pay the price and know there is a relaxing sit down restaurant of quality. Also relaxing live music with the evening meal. Thumbs up!!!!
We loved our visit here we made a reservation and they had us a table when we got there they had great food but even better staff our waitress was so nice made sure we had what we wanted and that we where happy the hole time and even brought out a complementary desert bc it was my birthday just amazing service, food and environment will definitely be going back

2022-05-23This restaurant is amazing!!! The food is phenomenal! Went out to eat with 3 others and all of our food came out absolutely perfect and tasted next level good. Our server, Lane, was very helpful and extremely kind. All the of the staff was very sweet. The overall atmosphere was great! We came for the brunch and oh my god those sweet potato waffles are to die for. Now we’re excited to try out the evening menu, because I don’t think you could get a bad thing here.

2022-04-23Update: I originally posted about the experience our family of 4 had at brunch a couple of weeks ago. It was not the best experience we’ve had at a restaurant, and I left a 2 star review. The director reached out to me to correct the issue and asked us to give them another chance. Tonight my husband and I did just that, and we were not disappointed at all. Our waitress (Erin I believe was her name) was super friendly and very accommodating. Our drinks never sat empty, she gave us options and answered any questions we had about the dishes. My husband had the filet medallions, and even swapped the asparagus for green beans with no issue, I had The Not Brown and it was delicious. The flavors were awesome, it was rich and had a lot of texture. At the end of our meal we ordered the dessert board and it was also delicious. I’m not a fan of caramel, and I’m not sure what they did to it but I ate the caramel more than I did the chocolate lol. All in all it was a delicious meal, we loved the service, and the atmosphere. We also appreciated that this restaurant reached out to fix our previous issue. Most restaurants don’t. Thank you for a wonderful evening and The Syndicate will definitely be one of our top choices for date night.

2022-05-08Absolutely an amazing place. Great staff and the food is outstanding! We were traveling through from Michigan and stopped in. They were booked solid but made arrangements for us at the bar. So glad they did! I will definitely make time to come back. Check this place out. You won’t be disappointed.

2022-07-12The Food and Drinks are delicious along with a lively environment. They have live bands and some damn good Bartenders. Maddie and Elijah never stopped moving getting drinks out but still made them perfect to the T. The Smoked Old Faison was great give it a shot along with The Brown meal. I just hope you had the good environment and bartenders I had for the next to go to the Syndicate. (Picture of good dessert plate)

2022-06-21Truly the best restaurant in Bellefontaine!!! I have been here now several times. Each time the service has been prompt and friendly. My most recent visit I tried the new menu item the Pesto Flatbread. It is listed as an appetizer but got as my dinner. Was not disappointed...the salty crispy prosciutto and sweet balsamic glaze made an amazing flavor combination. I have eaten a different item each visit, the Pesto Flatbread has officially set the bar now...and the Raspberry Mule is a must have every time I go 😉

2022-06-25My wife and I recently went for our 6 year anniversary. The drinks were good, the rolls were great and our waiter was kind. However the food that came was mediocre. I got a chicken sandwich that was supposed to have pesto mayo. The chicken was extremely dry and overcooked. I ate about half of it before I decide to look for the pesto mayo. Unfortunately, there was no mayo at all so the waiter brought out some for me to put on the remainder of the sandwich. After the pesto mayo it was better but not good enough to cover the extremely dry chicken. On top of that my wife’s fries were pretty good because they were seasoned; however, there was no seasoning at all on my fries. To top it all off they had a water cup for my wife but didn’t bring a water for me for about 5 minutes. They did not give any discount for messing up the food. Overall, drinks were good, waiter was friendly but the food is inconsistent quality and even at best it is very mediocre and not worth the price. And the customer service is not good either.

2022-01-03A group of us ate here on New Years Eve. We had a great experience. A couple ordered the salmon salad and said it was delicious. The fried cod was served on rye bread and it was delicious. Drinks were made to order and the place is spotless clean. A little pricey, but to be expected for the quality and experience received. Would definitely recommend.

2021-05-23The food was absolutely amazing. My girlfriends and I decided to share appetizers, then I got the lobster bisque, and finished it off with the most decadent lava cake. We sat on the patio, and it was very nice. There was no noticeable traffic noise, and we had shade from the sun. The beer, wine, and liquor selection was very nice and definitely includes something for everyone. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience, Id recommend The Syndicate.

2022-04-17The Syndicate did not disappoint once again. My family (9 of us from Columbus and Lima) had brunch there this afternoon and they went above and beyond to get us a table and to make sure we were well taken care of. The fried chicken and sweet potato waffle and the shrimp and grits were amazing! Thank you for giving top notch customer service from the moment we walked in the door! We will be back!
