The Swire Inn has a fabulous creative menu, a full bar, and live music on Friday and or Saturday evenings. Quite an interesting business created with a flare for a modern take on renovation in a historic building in the heart of historic downtown Middletown. Well worth making the Swire Inn a must on your list of places to have dinner and weekend entertainment. I enjoyed their full dinner with one giant portabello mushroom as the main course, all sauced up with onions and tender brussels sprouts on the side. I dined on the patio outside and enjoyed an accoustic singer guitar player. My waiter, Sam, was very professional and attentive to my satisfaction during my entire experience which was all positive. I enjoyed it. Ive enjoyed live entertainment at the Swire by some of the finest local area seasoned and talented musicians.
Wonderful experience here. My aunt hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner here and everything was phenomenal. Our waiter Justin not only gave us excellent service but also introduced us to some of the local history. This place is awesome, but Justin especially made it a very welcoming environment.
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. My wife and I have eaten here twice and tried different dishes each time. Excellent food at fair prices. The service staff is attentive but not too attentive. We definitely recommend eating here. The pretzel bites with beer cheese are awesome!!James Allen
My wife and I met a couple of friends for dinner and little did we know our table was right in front of the band. We loved it! It wasn’t too loud, the food was delicious and so were the drinks. Our appetizers were the Deviled Eggs and Bourbon Brussel Sprouts. They were different but very good. We had the Bourbon Salmon and it was perfectly cooked. I had an Old Fashioned and it was probably the best one I’ve ever had. My wife said surprise me and they brought her a strawberry mint mule, which she said was delicious. It was a perfect spot to hit up and we will be back in the spring to eat and then maybe try the brewery across the street.
First visit. Friendly staff. The walls need some soft decor to help absorb sound. Found the noise level of four tables in the very high ceilinged room (and likely plaster walls) and an over-loud, albeit friendly server a bit off-putting. The server likely had to be loud as she spoke to other tables as well as ours and this was distracting as we tried to converse with our dinner partners.I ordered potroast which was served with carrots and potatoes with gravy, just the way I make it at home except the roast did not have any trademark flavor. The portion was generous. It was good, but slightly bland. Salt and pepper helped. (A lot of restaurants dont do much seasoning, especially when serving pub style food, which is what we were expecting from our research online. However, I was pleasantly surprised by a different menu than one usually found at a pub.) My spouse had the chicken and waffle which he seemed to enjoy, but it wasnt a huge portion, and for the price, seems like there should have been a vegetable or fruit included. We also shared the bread pudding, which was good, in an understated way. It came drizzled with caramel, but could have used a tad more of it.Even though the food was tasty, the prices dictate more attention to detail, menus and cleanliness. The wall next to our table needed a bit of a wipe down. Dinner entrees were plated on heavy, flat white dinner plates which were rather stark and left hubbys chicken and waffle looking a bit sparse. The plates seemed oddly formal against the informal black wood table with no table decor or condiments. An order of onion rings and a cheeseburger were served in plastic baskets, so there is some disparity of presentation.Didnt visit the restrooms.Would love to know more about the history of the building and the Inn name and history. We plan to return and will try different menu items.
Had a Bourbon Flight. Wife had a glass of Pinot Noir. Both were very good. Had pretzels as an appetizer. Plenty of cheese which was nice. I had the Chicken and Waffles and she had the pot roast sandwich with what looked like house made onion rings. It was all delicious. We sat outside on a beautiful night. I highly recommend going here. Live music on the weekends. Waiter was great as well.
One of my favorite spots in all of Middletown, the Swire Inn transformed a previous home in the downtown Main Street historic district into a comfortable place to grab a bite and/or drink. A good selection of cocktails and craft drafts pair well with semi-private rooms and a great patio out back. Friendly staff and great owners.
The interior is a cute design like an old time tavern and the service was friendly if rather inattentive. I got a burger and it was ok, but nothing special. My complaint is that after we arrived we noticed that the price was higher than was listed online. Not a huge deal, but given that everything else about our experience was just ok, it made the experience rather meh for us.
Great food! Excellent service. Came here on a busy night & was immediately seated & made to feel comfortable. Logan was very attentive, kept our glasses full & made sure we were satisfied the entire time. Salmon was amazing. Chicken & waffles were outstanding. Shepherds Pie was delicious. Love the eclectic atmosphere. No room for dessert. It was a great experience.
Stopped in for an early lunch with my wife, father, and his girlfriend. Service was great, and the food is very good. This was my second time in, and had the chicken and waffles again, and it was once again delish. My wife ad the fish sandwich - warning, it is huge! I tried a bite and it was also wonderful. Good draught selection as well. As far as I am concerned, this is THE place in Middletown for a good meal.
I have visited the Inn twice hoping my fist meal was just a mistake. The service was exceptional, the prices are average and the environment is unique. The food is well below average and great food is what drives me to a restaurant. If your looking for a clean, smoke free bar to grab a drink, Swire Inn fits this need. If you are looking for a great meal, the Swire Inn is not the place to go. Both times I was dissatisfied with what we ordered.
What a terrific hometown restaurant with a very special vibe! Situated in a stunning Victorian era house, this is the place for cuisine like bangers and mashed potatoes, toasty Rubens and beer-battered onion rings, and even tender prime rib. On select nights you can also enjoy local musicians and singers. If you havent been, youll definitely want to try it.
This has been the go to restaurant in Middletown for date night for me and my partner. The food and drinks are always delicious. And the waitstaff is always very polite and hospitable. My favorite dish is the Burbon Salmon but be sure to try their pot roast and deviled eggs you wont regret it!!
A little pricey. The server was more interested in hanging out at the bar with regulars or friends. The server didnt check back until our lunch was finished. The saving grace ( why its 4 stars and not 3 ), was the food. Generous portions and piping hot! The decor could have conveyed more of the Irish tavern feel. Although it did pay homage to Middletowns rich history and wonderful architecture. There is a patio in back. We didnt see it. They have live bands on the weekend.
My wife and I had a Rueben and a pot roast sandwich basket and a draft each. The food tasted amazing. The onion rings had a great batter and were very crisp. My wifes house salad was very well made. The meat on the sandwiches were seasoned perfectly my pot roast was moist and tender her corn beef was seared nicely with crisp edges. The patio was beautiful. The only downside was 2 sandwiches and 2 beers was $40. Seems a little high. Worth it, but high still the same.
This makes twice Ive eaten here the waitress was very polite an friendly and the food was absolutely awesome, very good portions. I will definitely be back again soon, I would highly recommend your Inn to anyone that is looking for a nice place to have lunch or dinner.
I met my family at the swire inn it was surprised with the wonderful atmosphere live entertainment and delicious food. I ordered the pot roast mushroom and cheese flatbreads and potato skins and enjoyed every bite. They have a great selection of microbrews. They feature indoor and outdoor dining and plenty of parking. Its located on South main in downtown Middletown Ohio, right across the street from the historic Sorg Theater. Hurry up and meet your family at The Swire Inn. Youll be glad you did!
We read about this new addition to Middletown in the Journal News and felt compelled to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The renovation of the building and space is well done and really gives that cozy English pub feel.We sat at the bar and enjoyed friendly conversation with the bar tender. The staff (and owner) were welcoming and they all seemed happy to be working there! A sign of a good place is when the staff are proud of it.The beer selection was plentiful with lots of local brews on tap. The food was exactly what we hoped for: tasty and hearty. We will be back. Looking forward to the spring when the outdoor seating comes into play.Well done Swire Inn!
I ordered thru door dash. The food was absolutely amazing. So fresh hot and selicious. The brussle sprouts tastes like candy. The onion rings are crunchy and so satisfying, no greasy mouth feel aftertaste. And the main event was a Reuben sandwich. Oh my word, it was gigantic! I was only able to finish half. The flavors were so well balanced, not mushy nor overly messy from the dressing. I will definately be ordering from here again. If you overlook this restaurant you will definitely be missing out.
We had a great time here. Nice local pub/restaurant with reasonably priced items that taste great! Had a friend complain that he went here when it was new and that they still had a few kinks to work out, but its safe to say this place is up and running soundly. Things worth noting- they do take reservation and they have a wide beer selection.
We went for the 1st time Saturday for an early dinner about 5 . I was really excitedabout going as I had read the good reviews . There was a special event downtown and they were busy without a doubt . However, I was very disappointed and I am not sure I will go back . My husband got the portobello mushroom meal and the portions were minuscule. I was surprised how truly empty his plate looked . His side salad also was very tiny, and was just bagged lettuce with 1 mini cucumber slice and maybe some tomato .My flatbread was good but nothing outstanding . I noticed the majority of the other patrons meals appeared to be small as well. One customer ordered the same meal as my husband except she had mashed potatoes and did seem to have larger portions . Maybe it is just place to go if you primarily want to drink and have an appetizer or a sandwich while you socialize ? Maybe the meals are meant to complement the beverages ?The prices were average - but certainly overpriced for the quantity and even quality .I liked the atmosphere and I hope that things improve . The restaurant has great potential to really boost the downtown area .
It was absolutely amazing from start to finish. My fiance and I were celebrating our anniversary. The weather was going to be poor, so we wanted to stay local. We decided to try out the place on a recommendation from my sister in law. We had the flat bread appetizer, fish and chips, shepards pie, apple pie and a few beers. All was perfect. There wasnt a single flavor that I would change. It all was AMAZING! We will be coming back!
I hosted an event for 50 at Swire Inn in the upstairs event space. Logan, the Events Coordinator, was super to work with throughout the process; it couldnt have been done without her. Chad in the kitchen was also great and very accommodating of my numerous special requests. FYI, the Swire has a recently renovated and state-of-the-art kitchen that is appropriate for handling a larger group. Also, please consider the very functional and appealing upstairs space for your next event; it can easily handle a group of 50. Thanks again to everyone at Swire Inn; I was very happy with my event.
Every trip to The Swire has been enjoyable, great food, great service and atmosphere. Enjoyed the outdoor patio on Friday night, weather, music, food, drinks, friends and family-all incredible. The Langhorne family and the crew do a great job. Highly recommended The Swire Inn
Came in for St. Patricks day breakfast. They had a omlet bar and pork feast. Evening was delicious! Loved the Irish coffee- very generous with the whiskey. Staff was kind enough to sing Happy Birthday to my boyfriends father, which the entire floor joined in on. Love the atmosphere, the creativity and the company! A warning for those on a budget though: very expensive! Worth every penny, but not for the light wallet.
They forgot my order! Party of six. Place was not busy. We were seated right away. Ordered appetizers, drinks and entree. Everyone elses food came out in timely manor. Server brings out in her mind the last entree and says is everything OK? I speak up and say I havent received my meal. She says oh let me check on that. Im thinking OK it is sitting on the warming table waiting to be brought out. Five minutes later while everyone else is eating, the server comes back and says Im sorry your food will be right out. I thinking what the $@&%! Someone screwed up and my meal wasnt even made. My meal finally comes out 10-15 minutes later after everyone has already finished their meal. I tell the server box it up everyone is finished and ready to go. Manager comes out a few minutes later with apologies and gives me a $10.00 gift card. I dont want a gift card that I will probably never use. I do not plan on ever coming back to Swire! I wanted my meal on time so that I could enjoy it with my friends rather than sit there while they ate. It made my friends feel so uncomfortable that they started offering part of their meal to me. One of the worst dinning experience I have had in many, many years.
Baked brie was severed cold. The entre was served less than five minutes after appetizer.... I guess they knew the appetizer was going to be lack-luster so they wanted to get it out before we could say something. I got fish n chips. Chips were not seasoned and fish batter was still moist and pasty. Wifes Sheppards pie was ok, but nothing great. Maybe the kitchen needs to spend a bit more time on getting it right instead of getting it out fast. Will not go back. McDonalds serves better fish.
I recently went to the Swire Inn for dinner. Very good food and beer. I highly recommend the fish and chips and pretzels with house-made beer cheese. I will definitely visit again. Swire is a great addition to downtown. Buy and eat local in Middletown #middletownrising

2022-05-07Im always looking for mom and pops places to eat. I love the vibe of this place. The staff has always been great, and the food is very good. I usually get their boneless wings rubbed in Cajun with fries and ranch. Price is excellent as well. Would recommend to everyone!!!

2021-04-16Gluten free flatbread is great. Burger is amazing but no Gluten Free buns...? You are next to the only Gluten Free brewery in Ohio. Please get some!

2022-07-08Delicious. We stopped in for lunch on a rainy Friday and plan to return soon. The beer cheese with the pretzels is one of the top in the region - dont miss it if you are a pretzel fan! The flatbreads have a cauliflower crust, are loaded with toppings, and taste wonderful.Shoutout to Mia in the bar area - we sat at a low top at lunch when everyone else was at hightops in the bar. That meant we were in a separate room. Mia was very attentive and provided the best service we have had in a LONG time! We will return, hopefully when Mia is working!

2019-04-20My family ate here for my moms birthday. It was such a wonderful and pleasant experience! I had the Shepards pie, and it was so delicious! The house ranch is one of the best Ive had. My parents pot roast was perfect, better even than most homemade ones that Ive had. It was great. Also, their waffles?! So GOOD!The staff were all super friendly, timely and helpful. The atmosphere was nice and intimate; the building is just beautiful. We had a blast! Best pub food around, hands down. I definitely will be recommending this place to everyone I know. 😁👏👏

2021-07-01This is a cool place in Middletown. The have a big outdoor area in the back. They were doing trivia out there this evening. The food was good and the beer was cold. What more could you ask for?

2021-02-14The food was fantastic and the service was great. Was promised a high top and was seated at the bar. Not a very romantic Valentines dinner. There was no social distancing and many of the employees did not wear a mask. I cant believe the health department would allow this to happen.

2019-01-29I fell in love with this place the moment I stepped inside. The building has been beautifully renovated while still holding onto its eclectic, historic charm. I had a seat at the bar and indulged on some delicious deviled eggs and bangers & mash. They come up with different deviled egg variations daily, can’t wait to come back and try another.

2019-05-05Not a bad experience, but not great either. Service was attentive and the waitress gave us a good understanding of what was available and seemed really familiar with the food. The atmosphere was nice and cozy while still feeling open and not cramped. The food was alright, but a little expensive for the quantity and quality. My girlfriend and I split the pretzels and beer cheese as an appetizer. The pretzels were soft and pillowy on the inside and nice and golden brown on the outside. The beer cheese was kind of one note and didnt have the nice bite Ive come to expect from having it elsewhere. She got the Cobb salad and I had the pot roast sandwich. The salad was exactly what your expect from a cobb and the ranch dressing had good flavor, but overall wasnt anything special. My sandwich was just okay. The pot roast had a nice taste, but there wasnt much else going on. The mushrooms and onions, while present, didnt give any extra flavor or texture and the Swiss cheese was nearly nonexistent. If the bread had been crisper when it was toasted it would have maintained its structure instead of becoming slightly soggy from the sandwich giving you a nice textural contrast as well. The addition of mayo on the sandwich, a jus to dip it in akin to a French Dip, or a more liberal have with the seasoning of the mushrooms and onions would really help the sandwich have more flavor. The sidewinder fries were a great upgrade to the sandwich, but hardly worth the $3 upcharge when other restaurants do similar moves for $1-$1.50 and reserve the higher priced upcharges for more premium sides. All in all theres a lot of promise here and Middletown seems to be lacking in the restaurant department so I hope they do well. It seems like it wouldnt hurt to check back in a couple months to see if theyve worked out some kinks.
