They cant seem to keep advisors and it is too difficult to get one. When you try to make an appointment with one, the Advising office yells at you and tries to schedule one 3 weeks out. Ive had two new advisors in two years and ended up taking classes I dont need due to this. Its extremely frustrating.
The Professors for the most part are absolutely amazing, and they try to be there to help the students. It is the administration office you have to look out for. The so called Academic Advisors are no good. There is maybe one good advisor who actually knows what she is talking about on the entire campus. The two that they have for teaching majors I had are known for being bad. The one for the freshman and sophomore students told me one thing and she did not seem to have the needs of me the student in mind. I was trying to schedule classes for my second semester and i wanted to add some ASL classes for my minor. She said that I Should forget about having a minor. If you want to graduate in 4 years you need to have at least 15 credit hours a semester. After that meeting i decided to ask around to see what some of the other students had to say about her. The responses was the same from everybody i talked to, just get away from her, Youre better off advising yourself. I found out that every time complaints stacked up against her she was transferred to be the advisor to a different department. When I asked one of my friends about her he said that he changed majors because of her. She had told him this his chronic depression he had that semester was no reason for him to have low grades. After i had another scheduling session with her of which she blamed me for things that was out of my control, i decided to report her. The supervisor was the advisor for the junior and senior students in the middle childhood education program. When i told her how the first advisor, since i would rather not name names ill call her A, A said wildly inappropriate things to me the second advisor, ill call her B, told me i must have misunderstood. She then looked at my classes and told me that the math class I was in, upon As instruction, was a waste of time and money and that i did not need to take the class. When i told her that A told me it was a requirement and that she said i had to take it in order to graduate she told me I know she didnt tell you that. She must have said that it was recommended and you took that to mean it was a requirement. So after that I dropped the class and enjoyed my summer. When it came time to schedule classes for my third semester i came to find out that A was right and that i did need that math class. so i took it again . Unfortunately a member of my family fell ill that semester and i tried to focus on school but it was hard. When i met with B she told me that my grades were unacceptable and if i really wanted to be a teacher and graduate on time that i needed to sit down and focus. Because with how things are now you will never be accepted into the program. And like A she never asked me if i wanted to graduate in four years, and she never game me the chance to explain and continued to blame me just like A did. She also never took my official complaint against A because she knew that A is good at her job and there is no way that she would ever act like that and you just misunderstood. I was also told by both of them that i should quit my job, which was the only way i had to pay for gas and books. And there was nobody at the school i could talk to about either of them, and i asked if i could have a different advisor that was not either one of them and i was told i could not. So after my fourth semester at OSU Newark Campus, i changed my major and my school. Now i am at Columbus state and the advisors are much kinder, ready and willing to work with you and your job schedule. They are also better organized than the advisors at OSU Newark. The advisor i spoke to not only took in account the work schedule i had that i couldnt change at the time, but she pulled up break down of what four classes i would have to take each semester if i wanted to graduate in two years, something OSU never had.

2022-01-10Many reasons why the bookstore is poorly run, faulty machinery that often crashes when factoring financial aid, rude staff that can’t keep their cool with themselves or their customers, and even worse, all of these issues while their online bookstore is down and has been for the past two weeks. Very poor management during a time where it actually needs good management

2020-08-20I like to stroll on the campus. Theres a lot to see, fountains, a stocked pond with a bridge, ducks, Canadian Geese, and much more. Yes, you can feed the fish.

2020-07-17So sad I am not see anybody around just people walking the dogs before the heat starts The campus is very very quiet and is so sad that we have to live on bins and needles regarding a virus it will be so nice when all the students come back to classes it will be nice to see them all. The kids will noticed a lot of changes on the campus for their protection I hope and pray for their protection and ours and the faculty and staff that stay safe we cannot lose any more people in this country I have worked on that campus for almost 12 years Im originally from Canada and these kids are wonderful faculty and staff theyre like my family when my family cannot see me with the borders being locked up ...they treat me like I am your second mother is the first thing that come to me and asking me help me for a minute when I say she will Im always here when you need me Ill work on the janitorial staff I used to do all of the events and I couldnt do it anymore so I went to the janitorial part of it I wouldnt give it up for the world and kids mean the world to me and I will do everything in my power to protect them they are the most well-mannered students Ive worked in the school systems since I come to this country and I would not give it up for the world stay safe everybody before I get this into a storybook take care be safe always.

2019-10-22Writing this review based on the campus.. nothing to do with the Ohio State education quality. The campus is AMAZING. Very clean and tidy no matter where you go. If you hang out in the same spot for an hour, youre bound to see a janitor walk by a few times- they are working to ensure the campus bathrooms, hallways, etc. are clean at all times. The size is perfect for getting around quick to any building. There are several parking lots located around campus. Parking is typically an issue for students during busy hours; often students will find themselves parking on the opposite end to walk to a morning class (but opposite side of campus is not far of a walk, dont be fooled by the negative connotation of the remark). At the moment I am writing this review, there are 6 main student buildings and another is in the process of being built. The buildings are a mix of older and newer buildings- but nonetheless are well kept.Overall, a huge plus for the city of Newark. Beautiful and practical small campus away from the madness of Columbus.

2021-03-27I attended OSUN my freshman year of college (Im a local gal). Other than the fact I met my husband here lol... OSUN was the perfect experience even during horrible times... My first semester my Dad was placed in Hospice for a week and it happened to be during Final Exams. I will never forget how amazing and understanding my professors were (I had missed quite a bit of class and multiple profs contacted me or pulled me to the side to make sure I was okay). Im horrible with names but my math professor was a little lady with dark hair, I believe she had a cane, and she was extremely intelligent and I LOVED the way she taught and conducted class. My other favorite prof was a History professor whose room was down the right hallway on the right. I hate History lol but the way he taught was very animated, lively, and most importantly he taught REAL HISTORY. If youre looking for profs who actually care, smaller class sizes, and a safe campus, this place is IT FOR YOU! - PS: I also highly recommend the Womens Self Defense Class AND the Badminton Class. My ultimate faves c[ =

2020-07-04Beautiful little campus. All the benefits of a giant university on a smaller scale. This is also a hub for community activity in Newark, with bike paths, outdoor activities and events.
