Great service. Really bad, extremely overpriced food. Nothing to recommend. Such a poorly run business that our server, was hired and started same day. Other servers walking around with dirty rags swaying in the breeze from their hips. The management should actually be ashamed of themselves. Unless drastic changes are made they wont be open much longer. The kitchen and management have no idea what they are doing. If it wasnt for the service, it, if possible would be ZERO STARS.Perfect example of a business that wants you to shop local but does nothing to warrant it.
The restaurant just served cold food which was chicken salad, malfunction of something in kitchen so no hot food, they should of offered something for the inconvenience we had a reservation for eight and some of the people travel 45 to an hour to go to this restaurant, the waitresses were very, very nice!
UPDATE:Bass Lake recently came under new ownership and all I can say is WOWWW. Menu has immensely improved. Some really great options now.The outside seating is probably the only reason we go here. The menu hasn’t changed in yearssssss. It’s more of a last resort if we want to go somewhere close by.
Great food, great service, nice selection of menu items not too far south of the Chardon Square. We ate here recently and had not been here for several years prior to that, but we will definitely be adding this back into our dining rotation. They also have a really nice patio area and outside bar with happy hour specials. I enjoyed the shrimp pasta which was a very large portion big enough for leftovers the following day.
My wife and I had lunch here today and were very pleased. The decor and service were excellent and we thought the menu had many good choices. My perch dinner was delicious and very substantial for a lunch portion. The pot roast my wife ordered was as good as her grandmothers. (She actually said that). We have been in Chardon many times and l cant believe this was the first visit. Certainly will not be the last.
My husband and I stay here at the Inn whenever we come to town to visit family. The rooms have everything you could need plus fresh air just by opening your porch door and stepping out. We usually eat at the Taverne at least once. We have enjoyed everything we have had there and love being able to walk back to our room at night afterwords. The outdoor dining is very nice!
My husband and I have stayed at the Inn for the past seven years when visiting family. Each year the Inn continues to deteriorate. The rugs in the Inn rooms are at least 7 years old. The bedspread and decorative pillows are probably 7 years old too. The carpet had a disgusting stain on it that was never cleaned. You could not sleep with the A/C on because it was so loud. We had trouble with room service for a few days. Think they were having a tough time getting help. When we mentioned it to the manager, she reminded us that we complained last time we were there. I told her we were hopeful the Inn was getting it together because we used to really enjoy staying there. The manager was incredibly rude to us. When she walked into our room to survey the situation, you could tell she had an attitude. I told her I sensed an attitude to which she said Hey, Im just the Manager. Looking for a new place to stay in the area going forward. Its too bad because it used to be a nice place to stay.
Outdoor patio and bar offer casual dining with a slightly up scale feel. Staff is always friendly, food is excellent and the prices are moderate.Pnside restaurant is more old charm with dark woods and fireplaces. Better suited for those cooler months of the year when you are looking for cabin comfort
We’ve been here several times over the years but this time the food and drinks were not very good. My husband ordered fish and chips and said the fish tasted strange. When he got home he felt sick all night. I ordered the tenderloin Oscar. Steak was good but the crab was from a can. Ordered the house wine which was not good and my husband ordered a Long Island iced tea that was not good either. The service was great. Calamari was very good too. Sorry to say these comments but it’s just not the same Bass Lake as it was in previous visits.
We went for my birthday and it was an excellent experience! The patio seating is comfortable and spread out. There is a bar at the back of the patio with Happy Hour specials if you want to go for drinks and a light meal, or there are large tables for full meals. Not too loud.Servers and hosts are very attentive! Food was served in good time and was extremely tasty. We will definitely be going back!
Nice decor and atmosphere but slow service (over an hour to get food 20-30 min for a soda refill) Also a negative attitude from our server after waiting for them they want to rush us but the Server at the next table was pleasant and nice to their customers. The salad was great but the nachos were cold and the pulled pork was old dry and tasted past it’s serve date. The chicken finally came out and I needed a knife and very aggressive cutting so I knew this would not be good. After taking a bite and realized it had been over cooked and was incredibly hard and very chewy as opposed to tender and delicious. I mentioned to the manager when she expedited the chicken to the table that it appeared they were short staffed. She just scoffed and said that was “the restaurant business” So I guess she was not too concerned about our service. When our server finally returned I let them know that I both our meals were extremely chewy and that I couldn’t eat mine. She asked if I wanted anything else but didn’t offer to have my dish remade properly so I just declined and chalked it up to a loss for the night. I know if things were fresh hot and made properly it would have been a really great meal with a similar review.
We spent a delightful afternoon on the patio. We had 3 different entrees and all were perfect. Chicken capresse was my choice, accented with the most delicious heirloom tomatoes. One of our guests choice was summer salmon complemented with grains. Excellent choice. The turkey sandwich looked yummy too. I treated myself to start with Lemon Drop martini and finished with raspberry sorbet. Our server was friendly and efficient. Perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Shot out to Jenna R !! My boyfriend and I was there for dinner. Jenna was outstanding and always was asking if we needed anything and was attentive to the both of us. She was so kind and a pleasure to have as are waitress !! thank you Jenna R 10 star service !!! The food and drinks were excellent, great outdoor patio.
Great place to have lunch on the patio after a hike or bike ride on the nearby paved bike/hike trail. The patio is covered in case it rains or is hot plus it has its own bar. Nice indoor dining for dinner later or in the summer enjoy the outdoor ambiance. Try the small plates, they are a perfect match for a casual summer evening. Oh, sorry about the New York cheesecake photo. It wont last long enough for a photo.
From our first arrival to our departure, everything was fantastic. The manager on duty who checked us in was fantastic, when we arrived later for dinner our waitress Lindsey did a phenomenal job, she was very attentive and great to deal with and gave excellent recommendations. The food was phenomenal and arrived in a timely manner for every course. The room was perfect and the fireplace worked very well. We will definitely be back!
Great tavern atmosphere and lovely menu but my lobster bisque was very cool and did not have a great flavor. Nor was the specialty bloody mary up to par as they were out of all items other than an olive. Not impressed wirh salmon cake as served heated and was way dried out. We were only table there and could not seem to manage serving our food hot .
Atmosphere was decent. The food was just ok for me. My wife said hers was great. The menu is very overpriced for the portions you get. The food took a long time to come out and it came out warm. The lobster bisque was actually the worst I have ever had. It had zero lobster in it, and tasted like it was from a can. The waiter was attentive, although a bit robotic. He followed the waiter script, but didnt seem to personally care about our experience. We sat by the window, and we cold the whole time. All in all in was a decent experience. Im in no rush to go back.
Had a reservation for 7 got there a little before, was told they were cleaning tables and it would be a 10-20 minute wait. Kind of defeats purpose of reservation but it was only 8 minute wait so not a big deal. Atmosphere nice and rustic but tables are a little close together so if you are overweight or pregnant I do not think you would sit comfortably here. Food is fancy and on the higher price scale, not incredibly expensive though, like a plain burger is 12.95 with fries or a plain Caesar salad no meat 9.95 (examples just for price scale). I dislike that the meals come with predetermined sides and you do not have a choice. There were multiple items I would have tried had it not been for the sides because of allergy. I ended up ordering chicken piccata but when I received it there were bell peppers which I am allergic to so I sent it back and asked for it without the rice ended up getting just a plain breaded chicken when it came back out. Server was very nice though and comped it. The breading of the chicken had a very slight amount of star anise in it and it gave it a very nice subtle flavor jolt (for those of you who do not know star anise tastes like mild black licorice which I know sounds gross but it does add a good flavor). My partner got a steak which had a potato wedges and a broccoli side. The broccoli did not look too appetizing and he did not eat it but the wedges looked amazing (though they were very large cut). The bathroom was pretty dirty (seriously people need to clean up after yourselves in public) and the toilets looked so small to me. Although I was upset about the lack of adhering to a reservation which is detracting stars, the experience was not bad and service was great. Would try again but maybe on a weeknight as it was crowded on a Saturday night
The food was good and I loved the covered patio set up that they have. However, they were so so so slow. Our server never checked back with us after getting our meals and one diner had to ask for her water to be refilled and our server came back and refilled hers and ignored the other empty water glasses on the table. Ill say maybe it was just a bad day, and the food and ambiance were good, so overall it was nice.
Very quaint seating areas both inside and outside. Food is good but the restaurant desperately needs additional appetizer options for folks like us that don’t care to order heavier meals. Service was good but not great. Atmosphere is very nice. EDIT: 6/24/18. The patio seating area and outdoor bar are great for warm weather dining.
Very nice rooms and comfy beds. We like the jet tubs, fire place and the view from our private balcony... And the relaxing sounds of nature critters late night.... Have visited twice and will be back. This time the covid virus stopped us from returning to their restaurant but I would recommend for sure Also, Spinners is a diner that is close by with a cool vibe and lots of goodness to choose from...
My wife and I spent the night this past weekend. The whole property is cozy and quaint, giving off an elegant feel without being pretentious. The staff was very nice. The food and wine was reasonably priced, and very good. The room was clean, comfy and quiet. The whole stay was really peaceful, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing night away. I hope to return soon.
This was a very pleasant dining experience! We sat on the patio and enjoyed the nice weather. They are dog friendly on the patio and Kota Bear was loving the ambiance! Our waiter, Jake, was great, personal, friendly and attentive. The food was top notch and everything was done perfectly. Definitely deserves 5 stars!
I’ve never had a bad meal here. The food is delicious and the service is top notch. I love that they have a small bites menu for smaller appetites. Give the Sunday brunch a try, they bring you little baskets of complimentary muffins and cinnamon rolls for an appetizer. The patio in the summer is a must.
Our room was spacious and clean. The balcony was private and had a great view of a pond. I wish it was cooler to be able to use the fireplace. The Tavern food was delicious. Snacks and continental breakfast in the room consisted of chips, water, orange juice, yogurt, muffins and granola bars. We would stay here again.
We 1st parked our vehicles, dismounted our bikes, and took advantage of the bike trail across the street.Inside and out, it was very clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and all wore their CV19 masks, and people were seated reasonably distanced. The staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. It was kind of Mother Nature to provide us with a beautiful evening to be outside, to enjoy the sun setting as we ate our. They had TVs playing at the bar. Noise level was conversational so that my date and I could enjoy eachothers company. We shared the Shredded Pork nachos as an appetizer. We both ordered wine. I got the white Moscato only cuz I wasnt paying attention intended to order the red Malbec. However, although somewhat sweet, it hit the spot last night. She order the avocado salad & I ordered the Southwest chicken salad. Mine was plenty, but to me, hers seemed small. She said it was good. The chicken was a bit crisp on the edges, but fully cooked and tender throughout otherwise.I highly recommend Bass Lake Tavern, and we will return. Thank you.
My dad and I ate lunch here today out on the patio. The mums everywhere made the outdoor decor so beautiful. The food was great! Smaller portions than I am used to but it made it a perfect light eating lunch. This is my dads favorite restaurant. The shrimp quesadilla was great! Dad got the fried fish and fries, which he was thrilled about. Again, small portions, but great quality food. Everyone was very kind, well- groomed and professional. A++
At first glance a quaint little Inn. But after staying up a night fighting with the antiquated A/C that kept shutting off. We were treated to what looked like urine stained, mice shredded bath towel. And of course both issues were not addressed because as an old school Inn there operating hours are limited both evening and mornings.
Not sure why everyone raves about this place. The decor was nice and service was good. The food was just terrible: overcooked, overseasoned, overpriced, and underportioned. So bad that, even though we paid handsomely for our meals, no one took any leftovers home. When the best thing you can say is the dinner rolls, thats not a good sign. Maybe ours was an isolated incident, but not prone to taking a chance to waste money twice.
I worked here throughout high school and college from 2010-2014. I was back in town visiting family and we decided to check it out. I was pleased to see that it’s still a high quality restaurant with a sophisticated menu and wine list. The service was great. While several hallmark entrees remained on the menu (cedar plank salmon, beef tenderloin Oscar, fire grilled chicken penne pasta), there were also new, innovative additions to try. It was a lovely trip down memory lane and was an absolute treat. We enjoyed our experience very much.
Food is always very good with a very nice presentation. Staff is friendly and place has a good atmosphere. Sometimes service can be a little slow but thats the kitchen. Worth the wait tho.If youre looking for something fast & cheap go to Cleats down the road. This a sit n enjoy your meal with good company kind of place.
Went to brunch at the tavern. Everything was delicious, and drinks were strong and well mixed. Decor was intimate and allowed our party to chat comfortably. Bathrooms were clean and well taken care of. For a business casual lunch, the mimosas were a tad overpriced at $7 bucks a pop, so it may only be for an occasional hang, but otherwise, I would definitely return.
I had a luncheon buffet arranged after my moms funeral in January. The staff was friendly and caring While serving drinks and salad and checking on us. The food was delicious. They had vegan entries for those needing them. The desserts were awesome. It was one of my moms favorite places and she had wanted me to have the luncheon here. They did not disappoint. Would give more stars if I could .
This was the worst experience I’ve had out in a long time. We walked in apparently through the wrong door because it was completely empty and no one to greet us. When the front desk girl and us did finally meet, they took us to a table outside where we asked to go because it was such a nice night out. No waters were every brought. Every table around us got bread, but not us. Other tables after us got their food and drinks first. I asked our server multiple questions which she did not know the answer to but she was friendly the whole time. My husband got the pulled pork nachos with barley and pork on them and the plate was so small for the price. It took over 30 minutes to get our food after that. I got a “favorite” from the menu: chicken and goat cheese pasta. Since there were 5 or 6 pasta dishes on the menu it seemed safe. I was wrong. The pasta was dry, not even salt. The chicken was dry and looked like the kind you could buy in the frozen section of the grocery store with the fake grill marks on it. On top was a cold clotted (what we think was supposed to be) a goat cheese sauce. It was not soread or warm. The whole dish was inedible. My husband got a burger that was bland and over cooked. The fries he paid for an upgrade but we did not get the special fries. They were slightly soggy but by far the best part of the meal. People were nice but the food was horrid. We won’t be back
Was not a good night.. service was very slow and they were half full. 4 of 6 ordered steaks.Of which 3 had to be returned due to being well done.. mine was to be med.. not med well...our server Tina did her best.. she said to keep the sides .. but by the time we got replacement steaks.. the sides were cold☹, my steak on second time around was still not cooked properly. They did not charge me for my dinner.. but everyone else paid for the meals. I have never had a bad experience here, ever. WE WERE ALL IN SHOCK FOR SUCH POOR SERVICE. Will not be going back anytime soon😲😲
I had a great time, best service I mean seriously beautiful rooms quiet area even have a golf cart course it’s just beautiful I want to give my personal review to Ryan the bartender he is amazing great personality like really amazing I am truly becoming a regular! If you want a nice place quiet relaxed good food come here no doubt!!
Clean and spacious rooms, good service. The only room for improvement was the climate control. I woke up in the middle of the night too cold. Then I had to monkey around with it, made the room too hot, then finally figured out the sweet spot. After that all was well. Otherwise, great establishment. Ive eaten in the restaurant before and everything there is top notch.
My family has been dining at Bass Lake Taverne for as long as I can remember. Actually when we would choose to go out it was the only restaurant we would go to. We could count on the food being fantastic and the wait staff always prompt and attentive. Over the years we developed a relationship with one of the waitresses, Sue, which started because of her fantastic service. She was (and is) always friendly, always prompt, and makes our dining experience stress free. The last few times we chose to dine there we experienced a decline in the quality of the food, and happened to dine on days that our favorite waitress was not working. The combination of the two left us unsatisfied and we took a long break from the Taverne.Last night we decided to go back and much to our delight Sue appeared at our table! As always we immediately felt taken care of. But as the night progressed we could see Sue going inside and out taking care of way too many tables. This coupled with the slightly lower quality food, left us again feeling unsatisfied. A restaurant of this caliber should always be staffed appropriately, that is part of what we pay higher prices for. If and when we return we will make sure Sue is on staff because we know that the service part of our dining experience will be excellent and will compensate for the possibility of less than satisfying food.I write this review because I find it so unfair when improper management reflects poorly on the wait staff.
Excellent food. Worst service. My family and I went for a nice night out and felt completely rushed. When we told our server that we werent ready to order yet she went ahead and stated, Well, its already 9 oclock now and we close at 10 oclock. After we paid she came by a seconds later to ask if we were all finished and grabbed the book. Im a server at another restaurant and I was just really upset how poorly we were treated.
Beautiful restaurant but the food has steadily gone down hill in the last year. Brunch on Sunday Aug.4, 2019 was very poor. Brunch was also awful in January, 2019 but we thought we would try it again. The omelet of the day was greasy and the fried eggs my husband had were overdone. Evenings meals have been somewhat better. What has happened to this nice restaurant in Chardon? Kathy Holland, Chardon, Ohio
Had lunch today (Sunday). Three of our four meals were sent back to the kitchen -- they were either burned or cold. They replaced them fairly promptly, but my meal did not agree with me. This is not typical of our experience here; maybe they have a hard time getting Sunday staff? Also was not impressed when we came last Sunday either. Our normal rating would have been a 4 or 5.
One of my top 5 go to places for an excellent meal and service in NE Ohio. With 10+ visits, Ive personally eaten many of the dishes and have had nothing but great things to say. The summer time on the patio is amazing. If you are looking for great service, food, and atmosphere this is your hidden gem.
Fantastic place - great food, good service, and usually its relatively quiet. Very pleasant dining experience and although the menu is not big, there is enough variety that there is always something good. Its not cheap, but always worth it and portions are pretty good size.
I do not normally write about my restaurant experiences, but this one was so bad they need to be called out. We had lunch midafternoon on a Saturday and sat outside on their lovely patio. The hostess took about 5 minutes to materialize. I ordered gazpacho and pulled pork sandwich. The gazpacho was pretty tasteless- but edible. The pork sandwich was something else. The brioche bun was a brick. It was so stale and hard that it could not be eaten- I mean physically it could not be penetrated with a knife. This piece of bread must have been weeks old. The pulled pork was saturated with a very sweet sauce that overwhelmed any flavor the meat might have had. Overall, the meal was awful. It is difficult to image what is happening (or not) in the kitchen. This restaurant needs attention in both the front and back of the house. Is there a manager??
Im a regular at Bass Lake. As the deaf Second- Generation Italian- American citizen who is extremely intelligent and well-educated Gallaudet University graduate in Class of 1981 as I am 65 and retired, I ordered the Italian sausage then I discovered that it had no onions ,red peppers, and green peppers to be seriously offended to insult me and my strong Italian ancestry, and my strong Italian Culure. I should eat good nutritious vegetables with Italian sausage in concern about my health in senior years of life. Not pleased. I wont order the meals at Bass Lake since an incident happened to me on Friday January 27th, 2017. There are options in MY CHOICE. In my own decision, I have chosen my favorite specialty-Japanese, Chinese, and Italian in Marketplace Malls Food Court so there. In a fact, I have a different palate. Respect me, my Italian ancestry, and my Italian Culture as I have been a honest, and decent U.S. citizen ( b. in Uniontown, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) as I reside in the area of Rochester, N.Y. for more than 32 years.
Havent eaten here in 5+ years, doubt if I will ever eat there again.Started with the crab cakes, flavor was good, but more breading then crab. I had the eggplant, too much breading, and not enough sauce, my husband had the rib eye, fat and marbling are good in a steak, everyone knows that, but when there is so much gristle, that you cant even cut it with a knife, and every bite you take, you are spitting out half of it, thats bad. Sent steak back, and chef copped an attitude, saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. We didnt even mention to him that it was ordered mid rare, and came over cooked on one side, and raw on the other, Get over yourself, and perhaps take a culinary class or 2
Its fun to be delighted now and then. The Bass Lake Inn did just that. We stayed in a spacious double queen room, with fireplace and large spotless bathroom with a CLEAN jacuzzi tub. Very economically priced. Small refrigerator stocked with milk for the cereal provided. Also, fresh apples, pastries and other snacks were in the room. An actual small coffee maker(when do you see this any more in hotel rooms?) was much appreciated. Walk into the quaint and cozy tavern in front of the Inn and speak to the innkeeper and friendly staff to register and get your room key. Dinner in the tavern was excellent. Substantial menu, but also a fairly priced prix fixe option. We chose a great braised beef stew on Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and fish tacos. Apple crisp and chocolate mousse desserts were fantastic. Great craft beer and wine selection. I highly recommend the Bass Lake Taverne and Inn.
My husband and I stayed at Bass Lake Inn for New Years Eve 2017. We had a great time! It was beautiful with snow everywhere and since we purchased through Groupon we had a $50 dinner voucher. Upon arrival they recommended we make a reservation for dinner (probably because it was New Years Eve) so you may want to consider making a reservation in advance if you know you are going to eat at the Taverne. We had an AWESOME dinner and loved the fireplace in our room that turns on with just the switch of a button and the amazing jet jacuzzi tub!
Quiet and peaceful stay at the Inn. The room was modestly furnished with a water jet bath. The tavern dinner, however, was the highlight of our stay. I ordered the New York strip steak with skin-on seasoned mashed potatoes and garlic oil flavored green beans. The steak had a subtle char on the outside with just the right amount of pink in the center (ordered medium well). It paired nicely with the Dortmunder ale that I ordered.
Decent food for the price, but my mom just wanted a cheeseburger, fries and a piece of cheesecake for mothers day. They handed me a limited menu and said I had to order from that - no exceptions. I guess its asking WAY too much for an upscale place to fry up some ground beef and throw a piece of cheese on it....
Lunched at Bass Lake 9.9.14. Had Caesar salad. I was well all day. Within 45 minutes of eating, I was violently ill. I contacted management at Bass Lake to let them know there is an issue in their kitchen. The response was that they have no issue and that there are NO bacteria, virus or other food related illnesses that react in the amount of time in which I became sick.I was a Bass Lake fan. And I understand how food might be contaminated once in the kitchen. The management reaction is unacceptable. The management clearly needs to be educated on restaurant health conditions and customer service as well.Sadly, this restaurants reputation (along with the food) for me is tainted.Good bye Bass Lake Tavern.
I eat here often, at least once a week usually.OUTSTANDING.This is the best food in Chardon, probably all of Geauga County actually. One reviewer mentioned an issue with a Caesar salad, I eat those all the time as well as their other salads which are all delicious and I have never had so much as any problem at all. This has become a weekly ritual for me and I always get EXCELLENT food as well as service.Five stars. Highly recommended.
I am sorry to say each time I have been to the restaurant this summer, things have deteriorated more and more. Food, service, drinks and prices have all left a bad taste in our mouths. There are much better choices in Geauga County. This was always our favorite place in the area. No more!
Had a very lovely time. Stayed at the Inn 2 nights and ate at the Taverne 2 nights as well. Room was a great value, quiet, romantic. Overlooked pond. One thing you dont see in the pictures is that across the pond is a housing development. Still very quiet and lovely to look at. To the right is a small waterfall. Only minor complaints about the room....hot water ran out quickly, hard water and the tub walls seemed as though there was old soap on them. One chair in the room had what appeared to possibly be a faint stain of a certain male bodily function...but my wife and I debated if was or not! Otherwise the room was so comfy and romantic. Included King bed and jacuzzi tub. Sheets seemed fresh and clean. Food was good. First night, not as good...so maybe some consistency issues. The table next to us complained to the manager about their filets not being cooked properly and he promptly refunded them. For us, we enjoyed our food with just some minor complaint. We received a basket of goodies for a continental breakfast wtih snacks...danish, granola bar, fruit, OJ, coffee, milk, Cheerios, Cheez-its and bottled water. Good Living Social deal!
I am a Chef of a restaurant in Roanoke Virginia. First properly prepared Ceaser salad in over a year in various places on both sides of the country. Second time here in three years for a reason. Last time was perfect, this time topped expectations. Young, but pleasent FOH staff and perfectly seared blackened Cod with all juices retained. Could not be happier on their picture esq outdoor courtyard.
Chardon is my home town, and I’ve never been treated so poorly as I have at this establishment; Twice. Places like Element 41, Square Bistro, Chardon Tavern, and Joey’s Italian Grill care about their customers and their service. This place does not care about dietary restrictions (treats them like an inconvenience), hires staff like Joanne that are rude to people time and time again, and treats large groups like a problem rather than an opportunity. Spend your money somewhere else.
I came here from out of town after visiting Chardons annual maple festival and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Bass Lake Taverne is situated in a calm, serene and very natural setting next to the Chardon Lakes Golf Course. I loved the calm and peaceful feeling that accompanied visiting this restaurant, upon arriving, dining and leaving. The food was very unique and gourmet to a small town like like Chardon. Again, pleasantly surprised and it tasted unique and flavorful. I ordered the Cedar Planked Atlantic Salmon (corn, chile & fresh dill relish; roasted butternut squash with maple pecan butter ) and it was by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing dishes that I have eaten to date. Service was decent but wasnt Bass Lakes redeeming quality. I would recommend this restaurant to couples, it was a very intimate and quiet setting to dine in. Dress code is business casual/formal and prices are moderate to high.
Food prices are very high. Service varies depending on who has your table. Had some very bad mix drinks there that I have sent back. I have eaten at bass lake inn over 50 times in the last 20 yrs n I am tired of their increasingly high n higher prices n bad mix drinks.

2022-02-26No intentions of going back any time soon. Food just wasnt very good. French onion soup was just warm, the cheese wasnt even melted on the top. Its like they laid a piece of cheese across the top and served it. The rolls and butter were good and the French fries were nice and crispy and hot, they almost seemed liked they had been dipped in something before frying but they were really good. There was no kids menu or at least we werent offered one so my 7 year old had a $15 burger which he wouldnt eat, and I wouldnt have either because it had that fake liquid smoke smell, like a burger king burger. I tried taking the charred sides off but it didnt help, which was a shame because it was a nice piece of meat cooked right on the inside. My husband didnt like his burger either but at least ate it. My older son and I had prime rib dinners. The green beans were pretty raw, but would have been excellent if cooked a little as they had a really nice garlic flavor. We love prime rib but this is the first one I can say that I havent liked because of the spices, usually when I dont like it, it is because its over cooked. This was served medium and was ordered medium rare, but that was tolerable, what wasnt was the extremely heavy spices. Some people might like it, we didnt. I think it may have been Rosemary. Mashed potatoes I cant say as they were cold by the time I cut all the black off my sons burger, but they werent served with gravy, there may have been butter on the side, not really sure since I wouldnt have added butter to cold potatoes so I didnt look for it. Service was fast, not particularly friendly but fast. Although the lady that brought us our soup and salad was very nice. The waitress saw I was cutting off the burnt part of the burger and asked what was wrong. When I said he doesnt like the burnt stuff she said with a bit of an attitude it was charbroiled. That lost her 5 bucks at the end, but she still got a $25 tip for a $120 bill. We should have gone to our favorite place but we were hoping to find another favorite. This wasnt it. Although Im certain the dog was happy.

2022-03-06The hotel had no rooms free so they took very good good care of us since we booked online. Ryan the bartender was very kind and accommodating. Will definitely try to stay again. Thanks to the staff for being so kind about it. Food at the tavern was delicious.

2022-05-08Went for Mother Day’s brunch buffet. It was disappointing and overpriced. The host staff didn’t know how to use the system to check if our party was there. They just looked at us bewildered when we gave the last names. We had to search the restaurant for them ourselves. Server never came to our table to bring drinks, then admitted she had no idea she was even sat in the corner but that they knew we were there. I worked at a restaurant, if you see a table sitting with no drinks or any plates you should approach a table regardless. The buffet didn’t have plates restocked. We had to ask for plates and they were annoyed with that. It was just a bunch of high school kids, no adults present. Really poor and for the prices, I’d expect at least decent service. They also didn’t charge us properly. Three times. If someone orders a bottle of wine for the table, then why would you charge each person for an individual glass of wine, plus charge someone for the full bottle of wine? Employees really seemed to have zero interest in being there. When I’m paying over $100 for a buffet, I expect better and a little more.

2022-06-05So very disappointed. Food was absolutely terrible!! Fish was overcooked, sides not as listed on the menu...not told there would be substitutions. Daughters steak was overcooked on one half and undercooked on the other half...how does that happen? Burger undercooked. Overpriced garbage. Food was always expensive here, but used to be worth it. Dont think new owner cares about what is coming out of the kitchen. Only reason I took the food to go was to give it to the chicken so it didnt fully go to waste. 🐔🐔Only positive was friendly service from the wait staff. I will NEVER return to this establishment. Over $300 bill for 7 people (6 under the age of 20, so this was not a bar bill). Server was still tipped well.

2022-06-21Had burger special here last week and it was awesome. Burgers were perfect and also loved the waffle fries. So we went back this week with a bunch of friends. The waitress, who was new, did an awesome job. But our burgers were over done and sent waffle fries back cus under cooked. So disappointed. (The first time they had the chef from Warrens in burton. Superb. Maybe this week they were back to their regular chef🤔 not sure.) Did not lodge here...only ate at restaurant.

2022-05-06I am referring here to the restaurant at The Lodge at Bass Lake. We recently had Easter Brunch there. Please keep in mind that we have dined there for many years. This was, by far, among the worst dining experiences we have had anywhere. It was a buffet. We filled our plates and took several steps back to our table. The food was completely, unmistakably, thoroughly COLD. When we lodged a complaint , the owner approached us and several times announced very loudly that it was our fault because we let the food SIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was blatantly UNTRUE, TOTALLY RUDE, and COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR!!!!! We will never, ever dine there again and have told many friends of this bizarre situation!!!! I can’t see this restaurant doing anything except completely failing under this new ownership.

2022-04-27First let me say the Bass Tavern was our go to place to eat in Chardon. Went there for lunch about a month and a half ago. Very disappointed. Even though the website has a lunch menu they had none to hand out. I got the Santa Fe chicken salad. A salad that I really love and get often. This time the chicken had no flavor, like it was just grilled and the cilantro lime dressing had no cilantro or lime taste. Almost like just sour cream. My wife had the French onion soup which was good. She also ordered salad with chicken added. The chicken was $7 and was about 5 little strips. Way over priced. It looks like they took away the small plates which was perfect portion size for us. Hopefully this is growing pains with new owners and we might go again but right now no interest.

2022-06-07Went in for the Monday night $10 burger special. Ordered $5.99 onion rings, a beer and ice tea. We were given the wrong burgers, mine had this beer cheese sauce that was also all over the fries. Yuck, sent that back. They re-buned and sent back out fresh fries. The burger was over cooked and dry and no taste. Was suppose to come with lettuce and tomato which didnt come. When the bill came, she charged us $13.49 for each burger, charged $12.99 for the $5.99 rings, and told me that there was no refills on beverages. The $33 bill came to $55. I sent her back to fix 3 times then ask for manager. Who complained as usual, shes new.We wont go back.

2022-04-17We were in a party room above the restaurant. That was very nice. Fireplace was going. Kelly was extremely helpful. I was not in the lodge rooms at all. Cannot rate those.
