Great tasting burger. Did the build your own and was delicious!!
The food, drinks and staff are all top notch. Us out of towners stopped here before AND after the Limp Bizkit concert. I had the regular burger (before I started drinking) and it was suprisingly good. The broccoli was also seasoned very well. Sometimes broccoli can be bland, not here. I was a little bummed I didnt order the fries tho because they looked amazing. Thanks to the federal for being great sports and giving us killer service. As you can see from the photo we had a great time!
Ordered a burger and fry for take out. Fries were cold upon opening in car. Asked on phone was bun toasted. Not only old but untoasted. Ive heard people brag about these burgers . Actually had a better Burger at Dennys.
Whats not to love about the federal? The salads are a great size, the fries are my favorite and the burgers are enjoyable. They gave a really cool bar and dance floor. My only feedback is to work on the corner next to the comedy club. Clutter isnt cute.

We sat on the patio and were pretty much ignored by every server that came outside, even when we tried calling them over. And yes, we did tell them we were out there.
The bar has well spaced seating and is neat and clean. With a mixture of bar seating, tables, high tops and outside seating. We were greeted and then seated quickly. Our waitress was friendly, informative on menu and attentive but not pushy. We had green bean fries that were good and nice portion size with green beans not pieces but full beans. Each had a burger one hamburger and one turkey. Both prepared well and again good size. With a lot of topping options to customize what you want. The side salad and coleslaw we had as sides were big and both good. This is a step above run of the mile bar food and the beverage list is big enough to find a couple things you would want. All tasted good and served hot, If any the area again for a concert would go again. Location is safe with many bar / restaurant business around. Plus just a quick 5 minute drive to the amphitheater.

Excellent burgers! Especially the Cajun Bleu Shroom. They also have a great selection of wraps and apps. Overall a delightful place for a quick bite and drink with friendly staff.
Food was great good customer service. We had hamburgers and chicken tenders. The wine and the long Island ice tea was great..
Enjoyed the bar. The bloody mary burger shot was interesting, although Id have preferred the meat to be a garnish rather than being at the bottom of the shot glass which despite knowing it was intentional seemed like some random meat dropped in my drink
Ok. As an avid Bar Rescue viewer, and realizing I was 20 minutes from here..I HAD to see if they were sticking to Taffers teachings. Spoiler - TAFFER WOULS BE SO PROUD OF THEM!!! The Captain Coke I ordered was ON POINT - I honestly dont know if I could make a better one..and thats all I know how to make and perfect. ON- POINT !!Next up the food. LAWD YES!! Id travel 10 hours just to eat that grilles cheese cheeseburger. The buns were grilled cheeses. LAWD THAT WAS HEAVEN!! The appetizers were pretzel bites. Hot, hand made, on point.The place isnt all shiny like it was on the show..but its been a year. So she has some signs of wear. The bar was pretty lively for a tuesday night before 10pm.Everything was perfect. Taffer would be so proud.
Not a bad location. More of a bar than a restaurant. The food was fantastic and full of flavor, and the service was great. Plenty and seating, though parking could be tricky during busier hours —street parking only.
I always have a great experience here. The food is amazing, although Im quite partial to the hangover helper burger. I havent found a better burger anywhere. Theyre consistent as well, theyre just as tasty now as they were 3 or 4 years ago. I will forever recommend The Federal!
We really liked the atmosphere! Great beer selection and our waitress was really lovely. I was a little disappointed with my burger. I ordered the Youngstown ghost (or something like that) and it was missing about four ingredients. It was basically a burger with cheese and onions. Pretty disappointing.

The Federal is one of my favorite spots downtown! Their burgers are amazing, specifically the Firecracker Burger. The Chicken Ceasar Salad is also great with plenty of chicken! And from what I understand, they make all their dressings in house, which is rare for a bar/restaurant. Definitely stop and check them out next time youre downtown and hungry. And thats not mentioning their entertainment nights and art upstairs! Great downtown staple.

These are the best burgers around. Its hard to decide which one to get when ordering, I usually get the Knox burger. I reccomend the green bean fries and onion rings because they are always perfectly cooked and better than you can get anywhere. During the day, this is a great restaurant that you can bring the family to and at night its a fun bar. They have a great selection of beers and cocktails and Ive always had friendly service from the whole staff. They have a patio with a view of downtown Youngstown. Theres usually parking spots available on Federal Street during the day, but in the evening youll probably need to park in one of the lots and walk downtown.
For having an out of town experience, this was well worth driving 30 minutes. Was at the bar for a total of 1 1/2 hrs with a group of 5 people we had 3 appetizers, 7 drinks, 5 sandwich platters and 5 shots for dessert. The bill got paid and was very happy with the service, the good food, atmosphere. Planning on going back again this time with the whole crew. Not just a few of us!
Missed our reservation at another location so we walked down the street and came upon this place. We were seated quickly and the restaurant wasnt too packed on a Sunday afternoon.I got the Mexican Burger with Beyond meat 🤤 omg it was soooo delicious!Service was quick, our waitress Brittany was very nice and accompanying. If youre looking for a good burger this is your place!
The salad was below average. Chicken and croutons were not soft enough, but my biggest issue was the veges were not chopped properly. Many of the chunks were huge. It’s a basic thing. Expected more from a famous restaurant.

Only one selection of Irish whiskey when I visited. Bartenders were not familiar with the various brands of Scotch they stocked. Great music.

The only thing that was good was the burger. The fries were super burnt and the appetizers tasted like the same burnt oil was used. Ate the burger and threw the rest away. Had to go elsewhere to get more food. Wont eat here again. How did those fries make it out of the kitchen? I felt insulted like Im expected to eat this and pay for it too. Bummer dinner on Valentines day.

Food and service was great. We walked in with a party of six. All were served at the same time & all were pleased. We enjoyed the shrimp tacos & double grill cheese BLT.
Walked in and thought it was a cool little place. After hearing it was on bar rescue we decided to try it. Food selection is limited. Buffalo chicken sandwich was soggy chicken strips. Definitely below average. The burger tasted good but both people who ordered the bugger got very very sick and vomited all night. We have been here before at night and the club scene is nice but I wouldnt recommend the food at all. 2 stars for this place simply because it is a fun place at night on the weekend.I would give our server Jenny from the block 5 stars. Her service was awesome. Super friendly and on top of things.
Man, do I love The Federal. Great drinks and outstanding food. Great place to go for a solid lunch or dinner, and it is always a stop on a Thursday or Saturday night. Service is typically pretty good if theyre not busy, but no major complaints. Overall, another amazing place in Downtown Youngstown.
Attended a wedding there last weekend. Beautiful, natural venue perfect for small-medium gatherings. Staff was friendly and helpful. I was not involved in the wedding so I am unaware of reservation details, but as a guest I was thoroughly impressed!

Great Hambugers and cold beer. Under staffed, one girl was waiting all of the tables inside and outside. ( maybe not been expecting to be that busy). She finally ask the hostess and bar tender to help her. They should have noticed how pressed she was.
Hour long wait for food. Said they had a large take out order, 9 people, call in when we arrived. Something to keep in mind if you choose to eat lunch here on a Sunday. Might not be adequately staffed. Mens room was dirty. Food was good but forgot the sauces for the burgers.

This place is so much fun! Weekends its like an actual club. They have great food, the staff is really nice, youll have a good time. I like that they play different types of music so everybody is feeling comfortable. College crowd so its a mixing pot of people. Never had any bad experiences at this place. Always positive vibes.

We were going to get lunch here but after ten minutes inside we changed our minds. When we walked in the door the first thing we noticed was that the floor was incredibly dirty for being only about noon. We were told when we arrived our food might take longer because of some kind of Santa-themed bar crawl that was going on that morning (side note, really Youngstown?) and the kitchen was backed up some. We had a small child with us when we walked in and the greeter saw this and thought the best place to seat us was at a high top table barely big enough for one person let alone two adults and a child. Personally, Im not a big guy but I like my elbow room. Menu was a bit small but everything sounded good; would that I had tried something from it. Five minutes after the first guy took our drink order another lady came over to take it again.. she went to the kitchen then came back and said she would be taking care of us and asked for our order again. We waited for drinks for ten minutes, listening to morning-drinking patrons scream at the college football game, then left without even getting our drinks. Folks gotta clean up in there, man. Not cool.
Check it out while driving through the area because it was on Bar Rescue. Legit burgers, good drinks and decent prices. Staff was great as well. Only BAD is that the restrooms (Mens) are disgusting and fries were so salty and soft. Id give it 5 stars if the issues listed were not present. This review is based on a Wed evening for Two at the bar.
Was a Thursday early at opening. Grace our server was pleasant and attentive. Good ticket time under 13 min. We both had prime rib sandwich and fries. Excellent. Will definitely be back to try the burgers.

If you enjoy food then The Federal is a place to check out. Try the Parmesan Fries. You will not regret it. Very laid back atmosphere and delicious food. Downtown Youngstown is gorgeous in the summer. 5 stars from the wife and me.
This place is amazing!! Everything is made fresh and is totally worth the wait. The pretzel bites are amazing. The burgers and fries are phenomenal. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get reasonably priced, large, delicious meals.

The food was decent. The burger is a bit small for how much it cost, but the place itself is nice. Its clean. The music selection I like (mostly 90s rock). The service was pretty good as well. Got my food in a timely manner (though it wasnt too busy). I ordered a cheeseburger with the garlic parmesan fries and had a few beers. Cost me slightly under $20.
Depends on your taste buds BUT I LOVE the sweet potato fries! Cod sandwich is slamming! Coke is lovely :)
One of the all around best places downtown! Great food, atmosphere, and service. Though I spent a short time there the atmosphere was so relaxing I wanted to stay longer! Service was fast an friendly and the food was just as amazing as everything else. May be my new favorite place. Will be back soon!

The food was great. A lot of staff there, but few patrons. One gal was busy on her phone for most of my meal, a hostess I believe, which, as a restaurant owner, irritates to no end. Really enjoyed the burger, and the parmesan garlic fries were great!
The food was delicious but the staff was horrible. It was packed and we waited two hours for a table after they gave our table to people that came in after us. When we complained they were rude. The only shining star was our server Jenny from the block. She worked to get us a table and was extremely helpful. I asked to speak to a manager and no one would come out to speak with me. Not enough staff to provide a good experience. Mismanaged all around.
Decent food, moderate taps selection for draft beer and a good deal on the food special. I enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip, lots of whole pieces of artichoke (hard to find in most restaurants) but it wasnt very cheesy. Good Taco Tuesday promotion too.

Its a great restaurant by day and a bumpin club by night (Saturday night). I think their burgers are awesome havent tried the sandwiches.The club scene isnt much my scene so I dont know if this is considered good or not. I just know theres a dance floor.
Great service! Nice place to relax and have a drink after a long day. The ladies that serviced the bar are great, my food did not take long and they were prompt with getting my drink order.
Walked in today at 3:30 and waited ten minutes before we were adressed in an empty bar. Asked the waitress for menus and she said “sure, whatever” and slapped them on the bar. Despite this I thanked her for the menus to which she snorted. Walked out after that. Have never had such horrible service from a bartender in my life. Went next door instead and was like night and day. Avoiding this place like the plague.

I love the federals overall atmosphere. You feel very welcomed as soon as you enter. Which when you first enter youre greater and given a menu with great choices. I enjoy all the food here. They are children friendly and welcoming. The music is always great and the people just add to the overall vibe of the place. Great place to eat if theres one place you should stop for dinner in Youngstown its gotta be the Federal especially if youre looking for a really good burger!

The Federal has the best hamburgers! The parking was a little troublesome, especially since it was a Sunday. But the meal more than made up for that. Just wish we had a little more meter time so we could have hung out longer.
Food was great! Service was shady. Bartender was good. Servers stood around on phones. Windows needed cleaned. Doors covered with finger prints. You got time to lean, you got time to clean!
Ive never ate here before. Me and my friends usually start out here when we go out in youngstown but venture off as the place gets packed. Cant say its my favorite place but its very nice and the staff seems to be very friendly. Drink prices are comparable to others downtown. And its nice to be able to sit out front in the summer time.

New stop for me. Parking on a weekday must be tuff. I ordered the chicken ceasar wrap. My friend had the philly steak wrap. Both were excellent . Not overstuffed so the wrap falls apart. Just enough filling to have some with each bite. Fries were fresh, lightly salted. Service was excellent. Look forward to going again.
This place was kinda dirty and filled with people dressed in Christmas gear. I cant really fault the business for that because, ya know, bar. Not child friendly which again, cant fault them for that because, bar. The wait staff was a bit clueless. I think we had drink orders taken three times before we decided to go somewhere else. I really didnt get to try any of their menu. Im not going to rate them super low because I did bring a child in there during a bar crawl that I didnt realize was happening. So Im sure without the drunk Santas, this place would be really cool. Will probably give them another try without screaming child in tow as well.
The waitress told us to, “hurry up and fill out our checks because she was leaving to go to her second job.” I respect a hard worker but didn’t really appreciate that attitude...

It was okay. I wanted to check this place out because I had seen it featured on the TV show Bar Rescue. It wasnt the best service I have ever received nor was it the worst. The food was okay. It is a bar located in downtown Youngstown. The atmosphere may be better with a couple alcoholic drinks but I did not have any of those.
This restaurant should of never reopened. It’s horrible. Service/ food/ management all is disgusting with ridiculously overpriced what they call food. Order a hamburger, you get it dried out and burnt, or no bun. Ask for a small change to an order and they have a conniption fit. Salad is not rocket science, they screw that up too. Every time I decide to order from there, I just know I’ll regret it. And I do , every single time. It’s a shame that there is not very many places in downtown Youngstown to order from and each and every single business here just can’t get it . Robert from bar rescue should’ve just suggested to shut the doors and lock it this place is a pitiful awful shame

I was a huge fan of this restaurant and have been going there for years.. but no longer and never again. I brought my family of 4 and a guest from out of town to the restaurant after visiting OH WOW. Walked in the door to a half full restaurant . Hostess has hand on her chin like she is bored... not even removing hand from face say says how many? No greeting no nothing. My response hello, 5 please. We dont have any tables available and I dont know when we will note- never even raising hand off her chin. Its then I noticed a four top by the window and I say cant you put us there. Sorry Im not allowed to add chairs there. Again never lifting hand off Chin. I said ok and we left and spent our money at a competitor.I immediately went online and emailed the website, explained what happened and left my contact info- I never heard a response from anyone.If your looking for a great dining experience downtown go elsewhere

This is the best place in town to go dancing on a Saturday night. It’s so fun! Feels safe, music is great, and delicious drinks! Feels like a party every weekend.
Very friendly bartenders. The bathrooms still leave alot to be desired. One sink has a broken faucet, the doors to the stalls have half broken locks... But one thing I did appreciate was that they had a staff member seated in a folding chair in the hallway entrance to said restrooms. It came in handy when we needed more paper towels, he grabbed & filled them immediately. But most importantly, it made me feel a little safer. No drunk jerk was gonna grope on you, or follow you into the restroom, with this dude sitting there. And if it DID happen, this dude being nearby could help you. I dont know if they do this all the time or just when its crazy packed like the last time I was there, but I was impressed that they were looking out for womens safety. In fact, Ill probably come back more often for that fact alone.

Its ok. Not much in downtown area. Its wide open, sort of cavernous. Not much atmosphere. Looks like it rocks as maybe a college hangout at night. Older folks might want to hit the Bistro at Doubletree. But, this place is ok for a drink and lunch. Good service, friendly young crew.

Waited over 40 minutes for an appetizer, over 45 minutes for a couple burgers. They weren’t busy at all, not sure why it took so long. Asked for plain bread for kids and they couldn’t get that right.
If youre looking for dinner, the food here is usually fine. However, I dont recommend it as a bar. The drinks are overpriced and the music is obnoxious. Stop in if youre just looking to dance on the weekend after already having your fill of drinks somewhere else.
I used to work there, this place is a health hazard for one very important reason. Their hamburger is delivered not refrigerated. I is delivered by a man name Dandre in an open container that is not refrigerated. I saw it happen several times. Its amazing these guys are in business with the health code violation such as this.
The food was absolutely delicious!!! Parm fries are to die for & burgers were cooked exactly how we ordered them!! Were not from the area but would definitely make the hour + drive to go back again!

Had dinner and drinks with my coworkers and I cant say anything we had was bad. Had multiple apps, all of which were the bomb. Everyones burgers were great and a few of them had salads that looked awesome.
I love this place. Great food, friendly staff and is attached to the funny farm comedy club. The wings are big and crispy with good sauce choices.

Great burgers. On Wednesdays they have a special on their signature burgers. $7.99. Me and my friends like to get the grilled cheese cheese burger. Or as we like to call it. The 7Deadly Sins Burger. Because youll experience all of them while eating it.
Good burgers and decent food overall. Staff is friendly, yet the service can be lacking, depending on who is working. Seems to be a lot college kids and twenty somethings working, so conversations with friends and checking cellphones can slow things a bit. Nice ambience; working class but not dirty.

It was just ok nothing bad to say about it but I wasnt like omg I cant wait to go again either frozen fries mediocre sandwich and it wasnt a bargain but I can say the staff was great and the drinks were on point

Taco Tuesdays aren’t worth it. Ordered a margarita pitcher and couldn’t finish it. It tasted like juice, no tequila at all. The tacos were also extremely low quality. I won’t be returning.
Hate to say it...but...we wont be back. Over priced beer, not so friendly staff (besides mo) and nothing much to offer. Its probably Youngstowns favorite bar because there is really nothing else there to go to. When you have more than half of your staff standing at the end of the bar looking at your empty bottle, something needs reorganization here. They could have at least acted like they were happy to have a job.

The food that I had was great! The food the forgot that I ordered I guess Ill never know. Marissa apologized but didnt seem very concerned with fixing the mistake. The service not so great. I waited for 40mins for something they told me 15-20mins for. The bar tender maybe my only reason for going back.
Wasnt real happy my food on Friday the 18th of June. In fact 3 or 4 of us wasnt happy with our meals.

The service was very bad, no waiter, no-one to take food order, we ask for 2 long island ice tea, and the bartender added a lot of alcohol in it. So I think the bartender was drunk too.
Dont see why they get more than 1 star the food was on the same level as that of fast-food. Over seasoned.
Awesome burgers. I had the regular one last time. This time I went for the meatloaf burger. Theyre legit. Fries arent the greatest, the burgers are real good.
We were going to a concert and it took almost 45 minutes for spinach artichoke dip and chicken wings. Nothing had flavor. It was not good.
Service was miserable. Waited 15+ minutes to find out what I ordered was not available. The previous time I went I felt my meal was subpar. I wont be returning. Unfortunate considering I used to bring people from out of town there to eat.

Do NOT go here. Friend was walking by, having chest pains and stopped in asking for a glass of water. The staff gave him a hard time. And only gave him water because the customers started complaining. Instead of calling for help (Ambo) they started calling him and giving him a hard time. Calling him names Homeless because of the way he was dressed. They dont cater to street people they said. HOMELESS he is not. AND WHO CARES IF HE WAS, YOU JUST GONNA LEAVE A PERSON TO DIE!!!!HE had to walk home and call for help. THIS PLACE AND ITS WORKERS ARE SO HATEFUL.IF YOU GO THERE AND START CHOKING, OR HEART ATTACK...YOURE ON YOUR OWN!!!

Visiting YSU, found this hidden gem. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Also seems to be the place where locals start happy hour very early! Very friendly wait staff.
My wife n i went there the service sucks. We sat n waited for 20 mins. I had to go get our menus. N ppl came n after us n got service. Before they changed the name. Thus was a nice place. Now i feel it is a hloe n the wall. So they will never get another dollar from me.

So, they just recently moved to a new location from my understanding. This new location looks like it was a fine dining establishment that some hippies took over. Yes, do not be surprised if you see a chick barefoot hula hooping or a smelly pothead beating a bongo.Bartender looked -- and acted -- like a douchebag tool. He seriously rolled his eyes as he turned when I ordered a Straub. Sorry I wasnt in the mood for a $5 or $6 craft beer I could buy a whole 6-pack for at Giant Eagle for $7.My girlfriend and I decided since we were here, we might as well try out the food. I wish we didnt. I picked a hamburger called The Pittsburgher, which consisted of bacon, BBQ and cheese. What a disgrace to my hometown, should be renamed The Shittsburger. The girlfriend ordered a basic salad and said it was alright. I mean, how hard can it be to mess up a salad?We should have stayed in, got frozen food and beer from Giant Eagle. We would have saved so much money and had a better time.
As a server for 20 years I have to give them a poor review. Bad service, over priced salad, not to mention all the trapped flies trying to get out when seated by the windows. Will never go back

2022-03-10I want to go back to try more from the impressive burger selection. The list of toppings is incredible. I also want to check for bands when spring arrives because the place looks roomy enough to handle a band and the sound of live music. Until I go back to verify good service and food like on my 1st visit, I reserve my right to change the 4-star status given.

2022-02-15We got to retry 2 years later to go back to this place, for Valentines day it was actually really good, 14$ for 4 shrimp is to much, overall tho the live music and the Valentines day theme was amazing, will be back you guys definitely impressed this timeMe and my gf drove all the way from ashtabula city to go here. Shes tried it and loved it. We got here at 4 and the place was closed there hours said they were open. We ended up going to place next store

2022-07-09If youre here for food, youve come to the right place. Prices may be a little high, but its likely worth it. Hijeslty Ive only dined here two times, the first during mid afternoon and got appetizers, they were delicious. Second time was later but had the hangover burger. Honestly, one of the best, and delicious looking, egg sat right on top. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, extremely filling. Ive eaten at a lot of places in the boardman/Youngstown places but this food has been great each time.

2021-03-06Nice atmosphere good food great service fries were perfect not greasy or soggy. The only complaint I have is my burger was over cooked, but it was still good just a little dry. My mixed drink was perfect pour every time.
