The Depot Apartments in other cities:
Not terrible. Since the new ownership, things have sadly gotten worse. Internet is much slower, and not segregated. Got a Chromecast? Everyone can see it. Want to get reasonable sleep? Good luck, every night people are blaring music at the pool, and they dont even have security to stop them on a Sunday night.
The depot in general seems like a nice place to live and I was really looking forward to living here and all of the amenities that came along with it. Such as a pool, tanning, and a gym. However, the pool and tanning have not been available since I’ve moved in. Also the gym has broken machines and never has supplies for sanitizing the machines after using. Another thing is the doors to enter the depot are never locked and anyone can just walk right in. Another is the wifi is constantly down and takes at least a week to be fixed every time. This causes a major problem considering most of the residents are college students needing to get their school work done. The printer never works for me and sometimes printer paper is not available. When we moved in everything was dirty and every drain would clog. :( We’ve called maintenance so many times and they still have not come. The pricing is not worth it.
I have lived here several years. New management evey year. This year has been the worst. A major perk use to be every room had its own wifi network. This year they decided to make the whole building one big network. You use to be able to stream on your SmartTV no problem. But since they have went to their new provider. Dont even think of using any stream service during normal hours. The network can handle anything beyond a cell phone connected to it. I live by myself. I can only imagine if there were four people trying to connect to the network.
Absolutely terrible management if it’s outside of office hours there’s no way to get help. Rent is outrageous for this small apartment on top of the additional 50$ a month per resident for electric even though the electric is to be included. Everything breaks continuously and is cheaply made. Maintenance reports take 2-6 business months to get attention even if it’s a light bulb blown out:) Don’t move to this apartment complex even if it’s the last place in Akron!!!
I regret ever moving to the Depot. The management team is extremely rude and only care about making money. Thier main focus is on tricking people to sign a lease, then stop caring once you sign. They have no respect for current residents and only offer things to new people looking at signing a lease. The only people who are polite here is the maintenance team. The apartments are always dirty and smell like weed. Most of the time there is puke all over the parking garage. The walls are paper thin, which means you hear and feel the train in your apartment as well as what your roommate is whispering in the room next to you. You’re also stuck listening to the conversations of the people above and below you. The furniture is cheap and the bed is so uncomfortable. I have 3 nice mattress pads on my bed and still wake up sore everyday. Our apartment was also damaged and dirty when we moved in. There was paint on our floor, and my bedroom door had a chunk of it nailed back in. I do not recommend living here. It is way too overpriced for what you get. Honestly, pay a little more for another apartment on campus this will be nicer, at least the management team will treat you better.
While they do have good amenities and apartments if you are thinking of getting a one bedroom with the fact in mind that it is gonna be like your own place think again. Not super accommodating staff. People have come over to fix the internet over 4 times ( in 2 months) in the middle of a pandemic even after I told them I was not comfortable. The first time they weren’t even wearing a mask and when I wrote an email about it, I didn’t receive a reply.Same thing happened when I had a stranger knock on my door and when I told the front desk nothing happened.
The management didn’t seem to care about me. They were rude to my mom and I did not appreciate that at all. I went to the office many times for help and was never treated very well. Only a few times. I was also promised the $500 for signing my lease early last year. I never received it even 5 months later on the spring. I had to go to the office more than once to ask about it. I finally got it after showing that it was written in my lease, but only through $500 off my next rent payment. I find that awful. The rent is also very high. When I got an emotional support animal and my roommate refused to live with me anymore because of the cat, I went to the office. I wasn’t treated very well and was only listened to when I showed legal papers. I just felt like the management didn’t care. I did not renew my lease for this reason. They also withheld my medical bills that were going to my old apartment mail box. I was told that it was illegal for me to get MY medical bills until I contacted the postal office. A few days later, more than 20 medical bills showed up in my current mailbox. I hadn’t called the post office yet, so I know that I never got ‘permission’. My parents considered filing a lawsuit against the depot because of this. My credit score was damaged because the depot would not let me get my medical bills that had my name on them. All they care about is money it seems.
Living and working at The Depot for over a year have showed me that there is a lot to offer here! As a prospect, and for my job, I have looked at and researched other apartment complexes like Depot, and this place, by far, has the best costs for all that you get. The amenities, apartments, and staff are great already, but always continue to improve! My favorite amenity is the diverse amount of study/work areas all around the complex. I’ve renewed at Depot because I have the freedom to continue to craft my space and experience each year! The prices and incentives are always getting better and that makes being a college student much easier! If you have any questions or suggestions go to Kailyn or Zach, they’re fluent in their jobs and will go above and beyond to ensure your satisfied. If you need to talk to someone about anything regarding life, financial issues, leasing, or whatever else go to Pam! Pam is one of the most compassionate team members that we have, as she’ll make sure you understand a situation fully or that she has helped you as best as she can. And If you have any questions regarding anything or my apartment search come down to the office or give us a call and I’ll be happy to help! We may not be The Home Depot but you can make The Depot your home!
I can’t explain how bad it has been to live here. I just recently moved out and the management is terrible. The electric bills are a total scam, they charge you $50+ a month for overages but somehow cannot prove how much electricity you’ve actually used. Management will barge into your apartment with no 24 hour notice and when you complain, they will threaten you with extra charges on your account. They have gotten rid of cable TV and closed the pool. They have no respect for their tenants and are only interested in your money. Also there were rats on the first floor when I was moving out because they haven’t had anyone take out the trash in weeks. 0/10 go live at the Edge.
Ive lived at the Depot for three years. Every year it got worse and worse and after multiple management changes, expensive electric overages, and declining service I completely regret my three years there. They use the cheapest appliances and materials so that the rooms are terribly inefficient. I can feel cold air coming through cracks in window seams and my shower is never above slightly warm. Everything runs on electricity which leads to huge overages at the end of each month. Avoid this place; find a cheaper apartment near campus. The only good thing about the Depot is the maintenance workers; theyre nice people.
I’m from Indiana and went to the University if Akron for a short period of time. The Depot in my opinion was a very nice place to live. I’ve only ever had one conflict with them and it was resolved when I went to go talk to management. They originally claimed they had no paper work showing that my dog was even supposed to be there, but then when I went to the office they found it and apologized for my inconvenience. People at the desk are always so helpful. When I decided to move home early they even helped me out with not having to pay for electric. I’d say overall it’s not a bad place to live. As long as you have a respectful and mature conversation with management they tend to take your concerns seriously. When my roommate and I had a problem they advised us to work it out, but then they helped her move out and helped me get a new roommate.
I lived at The Depot now for almost 2 years and I plan on living there again next year. It is in a great location to campus, so you have the option to walk to class if you want. There is a lot included in your rent that is free which is wonderful! What I use the most is the coffee machine, the study rooms, and the gym. This is a great place to live and I recommend coming to take a tour!
I have called Depot home since 2015, and have worked here since 2017. It has been nothing short of ideal as a University of Akron student, and as a transfer student to Kent State University. Factoring in all of the amenities, utilities, and even the gas money I spend driving to Kent, The Depot has the best value & lowest rates, while simultaneously offering the most amenities.
I have been living at Depot since they first opened in 2014. Great amenities , The pool is awesome when its open I love that I have my own bathroom, I love the Yoga Room and the Fitness Rooms! Even though the building is nice the walls are VERY THIN , I hear everything the people above me are doing, LITERALLY everything , which is annoying as HELL. Even the vending machines suck half of the time. I asked to live on a specific floor which they put me on the 2nd floor right by the train that comes every 20 minutes, I am use to it but its still annoying. I hear the Garbage truck at-least twice a week around 4 or 5 AM, Which is very freaking loud. My view sucks, who just wants to look out the window to see a Garage ??? I dont like the fact that when I have a question for the management team the Community Assistants feel the need to help me.. Its none of their business thats why I ask for the Manger not them ! I DISLIKE the way they do the New Roommate process. I just dont want any random chick moving in without me knowing something about them. This place needs a lot of improvements. I recommend who ever moves in too really think about it. I am not a college student so I could careless about campus. BUT over all my experience this far was OKAY !
Please read if you are planning on signing or signing your kids up for this apartment, I will go through all of the current management promises and decisions! When I first moved into the Depot in August I was so excited, great place for a great cost, and the best part was everything was included, or so I thought. After only a few months here where I had no issues they decided to sell to a new reality company and direct new management, this was the start of the downfall. Upon moving in we were promised gift cards as a move in bonus, but the new management did not want to pay this out, so it took up until close to the end of the first semester to get these. The current and old management had to go to court in order to get this issue resolved. DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR PROMISES! Next came the change in their tenant portal were rent was paid and then not logged so I had over $500 in open charged to my account that the management said they could not fix and attempted to charge me an additional fee for. It took me calling the reality company directly as well as the building manager to get this issue fixed after hours on the phone and going to the office multiple times. Every time they say they understand your problems, they do not, management in the building does nothing more than redirect you. Working in a customer service based industry, this is not how you treat clients. The newest and most frustrating issue the utility provider Simple Bills. Contrary to the name they are anything but simple. Until the past two months we have not had any electric overages. Once simple bills came in we have paid $25 extra per month in electricity. We have been living in Ohio winter with our heat off in order to try and mitigate this cost, yet today we got another $24 charge. Depot loves to act like their $30 allocation for electricity covers the cost and in rare situations you would go over. ELECTRICITY IS NOT INCLUDED, YOU WILL PAY! Today we have gone to the office to talk to Pam, she will not answer your questions directly, who redirected us to Simple Bills building manager, Alicia, who said she will not deal with us or fix anything. This is where we were redirected to Simple Bills customer service who was nice, but still unable to do anything about the current bill. Bottom line is, we spent our entire afternoon being tossed around with no answer and the billing company automatically debits your bank after 10 days. They basically just try and ward you off until the deadline so you have to pay the bill. Can not emphasize how deceptive their lease looks from the outside. I actually have a friend who lives here and is currently pursing legal action against the current management company. Do not live here, even though the place itself is pretty nice it is a shame the management experiences here has been nothing but awful. All the positive reviews in the last six months have no feedback and are clearly fake. If you have read this far then hopefully will sign else ware for next year!
Parents and students please read this before signing at The Depot. The Depot is the most affordable apartment in Akron for what you are receiving, because the depot shows you only what they want you to see. There has been vomit and garbage all over the place and no one picks it up for several days. They used the cheaper furniture and kitchen appliances. When they break they charge you way more then what is valued because their pricing is based off of a flat rate. They restrict the number of guests your allowed to have in your apartment by limiting only one guest parking pass at a time and they are first come first serve. You can only have guest park over 2 days a week and if you use it already then you have to park else where. Don’t try to park there withone one though because they have a $250 minimum fine. The hallways do in fact reek of marijuana during various times of the week not just the weekends. If you do for some reason feel the need to sign here make sure you read and understand the lease agreement. To The Depot,Please use this as a way to get better, these are my individual concerns and dislikes for the apartment.
I lived in the depot for two years. The first year I lived along the train tracks, which made it very difficult to sleep and was very disruptive. I had an incident in which a lot of stuff was taken out of my room with no resolution due to a lack of cameras in the building. The management was not very helpful and eventually sold the property. The hallways used to smell like weed all the time, which was horrible. The new management made strides in getting rid of the weed smell, but the security was still bad. The staff was always friendly and helpful given any set of circumstances. The electrical overage never really made a lot of sense. I was out of town for 20 out 30 days for a period and my roommate was in and out of the hospital a lot during that time span and somehow we were $100 over the total cap for the room. The new management was also not very helpful and was unwilling to make any effort to help me out in either letting me stay or even buying a little extra time to move out for someone who lives more than six hours away. I would give this place a 2.5/5, but am rounding down due to a more negative than positive experience.
They dont care about their residents, we are nothing but dollar signs to them. I HATE IT HERE! Dont believe the reviews on the website... They picked the ones that went on there.. They probably offered them a gift card. If i could give negative stars i would. The staff , facility and the overall building and rooms are nice...BUT they do make a lot a billing mistakes on top of overages every month. I hate that about this place. Im in a 2 room paying $724 a month . when I go to pay my rent every month its always a different number . they charge you extra if you go over an electricity cap I think its a scam. Especially since I do my best to cut all lights and electronics off. I called Ohio Edison ( the electric company for depot ) to try and get details but they couldnt tell me anything. I have had to play hundreds of dollars ON TOP OF MY ALREADY HIGH ASS RENT....in my opinion 401 lofts is better when it comes to management ... When I lived there I never had to pay a penny over what my rent was supposed to be ....they also wand $60 a month for parking... When the gate is always broken anyway .... Dont come here its a trap
Ive lived in the Depot for two years now and have never had a real problem. The residents are decently quiet 99% of the time and was honestly less noisier than the dorms. My freshman year of college I stayed at Exchange dorm. Moving in was a breeze here and parking is very very convenient, especially compared to all other places in Akron. Although my old soft top Jeep did get unzipped a few times from homeless people, but Depot did up the security. I have since sold the Jeep and no longer have that problem. Maintenance is very friendly and helpful, everything from changing air filters to lightbulbs. Unlike the dorms fire alarms maybe go off once per year. This year The Depot did change electric providers and charged us a one time fee of $50, I was not very happy about that. I have also gone over my electric bill once and it was $7.00. WIFI here is amazing, I use my own router not The Depots and I get 400Mbps down and 500Mbps up. This is an honest review and The Depot does care about its residents, not as much keeping you but defiantly some good incentives for new people to sign. I will be signing my third lease for 2018-2019
The Depot has been a great experience for me. The hallways are pretty long but overall nice, quiet and has an awesome courtyard! If the other students would practice consideration and respect for their neighbors by not using the hallway as a trash can, the office could focus on providing more events and fun stuff for us instead of picking up after all these rude children all day.
So far the depot is great. Its not noisy nor does it smell like weed too much. The pool isnt open too late which I dont like but its ok. Whenever I need something fixed I fill out a request online and the maintenance guy is there the next day. Depot is under new management and theyre making a lot of great changes.
The Depot is an affordable and great place to live for young adults/college students. I always feel safe and supported in this apartment complex, which is probably the most important factor for me. The community assistants working at the front desk are definitely the highlight of the services provided here. Go chat with Mikhail, Kailyn, or Zach for exceptional help with anything you might need!
I have lived at the Depot since January of 2017 and I am moving out in July 2018. The management is so disrespectful and the way they talk to clients is uncalled for. They either need new management or something needs to change because their compassion towards the people that live here is very poor. They lack respect and I have never come accross a management team to be so rude in my life. You may go home some weekends and stay others but as long as you pay your lease and have keys you still live their. I’m disgusted with how you talk to us and I didn’t believe the comments on here till now. I do not recommend moving into the Depot. All they do is care about the money but once you sign the lease your basically signing your life away because they really don’t care about you at all in the end.
PARENTS & STUDENTS; PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING AT THE DEPOT. SIGNING AT THE DEPOT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY COLLEGE CARRER. SAVE YOURSELF!I signed to the depot last year because they always made it look so good online.THEY ONLY SHOW YOU WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO SEE. The model that they show you, is nothing like where you will be moving in. My walk in closet is in no way that. I can walk in and turn around, thats about it. The furniture in the apartments is reused and very cheap. My couch was peeling before i even moved in. the furniture will be damaged before you move in and then they will charge you way more than the stuff is worth. The walls are paper thin, you can hear conversations from the people beside you. There is trash and vomit in the garage. One time it lasted an entire weekend. You can imagine the smell. They glorify the fact that they have an attached garage, but they make you pay $40 extra for it a month for a parking pass, not to mention this doesnt even guarantee spot because all of the randoms that park there. The staff is incredibly rude. Once they have your money, and trick you into signing the lease they dont care about you or your needs at all. They will try to get money from you in any way they can. Its actually insane. I spoke with a receptionist, Michelle and she was very unprofessional. She was extremely rude and nasty. Youd think theyd look into getting a new staff that actually talks to their residents with class and respect. I couldnt believe that she talks to residents that way. Good way to make me move out and stop paying for sure. I paid an $800 dollar deposit before I moved in, and she told me that it could take up to a month after the end of my lease to get to me. I cant express how rude she was. She had no compassion for my issues or concerns at all. I mean we do pay them an insane amount of rent a month. This place is not worth more than $400 dollars a month, and between my roommate and I, we pay them $1600 a month (we could rent a beautiful house for this). I was told that if I wanted to speak to the owner, Id have to email him and set up an appointment. The wifi glitches all of the time and the printer rarely works. They make you fill out a parking pass and limit your time if you want a guest. They charge you extra if you go over on electric. I live in an apartment with just one other person. We literally walk around in the dark so that we dont go over, and somehow we still get charged. I called the electric company the Depot uses and they tell us to talk to the Depot, the Depot of course tells us that we need to contact the electric company. Basically, we get no answers as to how we went over something just doesnt add up. We got charged like $50 over break when we both went home. Yes, this apartment is close to campus, but you are better off getting a different apartment, house, or even living in a dorm. You will thank me later. Dont make the same mistakes I made. I wish I had the inside scoop on what Id be getting into before I signed my life away for a year. It makes me sick thinking about how much money they have scammed out of me. My lease goes until the end of July, but Im all moved out. Im all paid up in my portal until then. IM SO GLAD IM DONE WITH THE DEPOT.
Living at the Depot is Hell. They do not care about the residents; all they care about is money. Its by far one of the worst apartment complexes in Akron. Just ask anyone on campus, they’ll tell you that this place sucks. The Depot is crooked and greedy. Signing a lease here is like selling your soul to the Devil. The staff is simply a team of professional liars. The office assistants are rude and always have attitudes; management is shady and can’t be trusted. They do not care about your concerns, nor do they give you the respect you deserve as a paying resident. Trying to talk to the managers is like talking to a brick wall, they do not listen and they do not take you seriously. Instead, they talk down to you and belittle you. Nothing is ever their fault. They are never wrong. They never take accountability for anything. They hide behind their policies and the lease “agreement.” They deflect questions and twist your words; it’s always like they’re reading from a prepared statement, it’s not genuine. They are so out of touch with reality. When you first tour the Depot, however, they treat you like royalty. They’ll give all these freebies & deals; and entice you with gift cards. They’ll create a sense of urgency to pressure you into signing and once you do, everything changes. You’ll be stunned to find out you must pay an entire month’s rent for August, even though you cannot move in until the end of the month. This is just the beginning.I have been a resident at the Depot for two years and sadly my experience here has gotten worse & worse. It started on the day I moved in. I was promised a clean apartment but when I arrived, it was filthy and things were broken.Yes, the apartments are furnished, but everything is very cheap and breaks easily. They say this is a “luxury” apartment, however, it’s anything but. The WiFi is awful. I have had one maintenance issue after another during my time here, including being without heat for THREE WEEKS during the prime of Winter and I had to fight like hell to be compensated for it because management saw nothing wrong with that until I threatened to call the corporate office. Every time something goes wrong, they will tell you they’re “waiting on parts.” Well, for as much as it costs to live here, there is no reason parts should take so long. The Depot is NOT safe. Security does a piss poor job at keeping this place and its residents safe. Management has gone through two different security companies and this one is worse than the first. The only place I regularly see the security guards is out in the courtyard smoking or on their phones. One time I even caught one of them SLEEPING in the office! This place is a zoo at night and on the weekends. I have been harassed and even threatened by strangers while on the property. When I was coming home late from work one night, I stumbled across a man who was passed out on the floor in the middle of the hallway; turns out he wasn’t even a resident here and no one knew where he came from. I can’t make this stuff up. The common areas are not kept clean, there is always trash everywhere that sits for days. Its embarrassing to bring guests. The entire complex ALWAYS reeks of marijuana and nothing is ever done about it.The parking deck at the Depot is a complete clusterf*ck. They charge FORTY DOLLARS on top of the already overpriced rent for you to park in a facility that is totally unregulated and unsafe. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost been hit head-on by people speeding through the deck thinking it’s a racetrack. The gate is always broken & literally anyone can get in; nonresidents come and take spots from those of us who pay because the rules are loosely enforced. Cars have been broken into several times and they couldn’t care less. Handicap spots are taken by people who arent handicapped and the Depot lets it happen. After two years, Im done.I would not recommend this place to anyone. The Depot is a house of horrors full of hidden fees, dirty lies and empty promises. Seriously, DO NOT LIVE HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
This is a very bad place to live, the halls always smell like weed, and they are cleaned maybe once a month. almost all the appliances have broken so far and we havent even been in the apartment for a year yet, and then the maintenance takes at least 6 weeks to replace what was broken.the staff may be friendly, but they get nothing done. you can ask them for something every day for five weeks and never get it, you can complain about noise or the smell of weed in the hall and nothing will ever change no mater how many times you tell them.their are many other reasons that the depot is bad and very few reasons it is decent. but I will never sign a lease here again.
Very happy my family was able to find this place with 4 bedrooms available while our house is being repaired. The staff are friendly, and someone is on duty all the time. They have a heated pool, study rooms, gyms and a parking garage in downtown Akron. They are pretty nice student housing, and with 4 bedrooms and bathrooms, and a kitchen with granite countertops and an island. Wish they had this when I was in school!
The depot is absolutely a horrible place to live. The trash room is constantly full of trash all over the floors. The hallway carpets are stained and the halls stink. Not to mention management will do absolutely everything in their power to get an extra penny from you. They claim to have free printing which is true but the printer has been broken for 6 months and not been replaced. Also the coffee machine only works every other cup. If you’re reading this before signing take your money somewhere else!
UPDATE:A year later and Depot is honestly still a terrible place to live lol though I no longer live there, they are still contacting me about the “paint damages” So, I recommend you make sure you have them WALK THROUGH your apartment with you before you leave. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take pictures, keep conversations on file, get it all in writing because THEY WILL try to charge you with whatever they can before you leave.Save yourself the headache and keep from moving here.Alright, so living in Depot was not that bad for me. However, the wifi was trash at a certain time at night where it would just completely stop working which could be very inconvenient if youre doing school work. The walls are paper thin to the point to where I could feel the movements and hear whole conversations of the people living above me. Same with having a room directly by the garbage room. I could hear residents coming in and out throwing their trash down the shoots, but I could forgive all of that if I hadnt had so many issues with moving out. They wanted to initially charge me $200 for paint damages, but Ive yet to receive pictures showing the damages I had made to varify it. Then when I continued to reach out eventually they lowered my damage fee to $75 but added that it was for damage of paint and the bed cover, really? This charge still doesnt make sense considering I hadnt done any amount of moneys worth of damage. Ive still yet to get a response from them regarding getting pictures of issue, and their staff has no idea how to respond to the problem. Theyll tell you to wait for a specific date because so many other people are calling in with the same concerns you’re having. Long story short, depot couldve been a great place to stay, but they go out of their way to try and scam people out of their money
Great place to live, how ever I feel like there should be some reward for residents who continue you to renew here. Ive been a resident since the depot has opened, and Ive havent received as much of a letter of appreciation. When I first signed my lease in April of 2014 the rent was $575 , that was already a lot but when I went to renew for the 2015-2016 lease they where going up on the rent , which was $609 and from there they told be that the rent was only going to go up. Then I received an email saying that rent was starting at $599 after I had already signed my lease. The did change my monthly payment back to $599 after I called and complained, but the rent shouldve never went up for those who were currently living there and wanted to renew. I believe thats why a lot of people moved out. The incentives are somewhat of, but in order to get the gift cards you have to sign your lease within the time frame.
The place is really nice and the amenities are cool. Its a very convenient location if you are a student at UA. BUT be careful before you sign the lease! The leasing agents are really nice, but they dont mention that they dont prorate rent. The move-in date is August 22, and they expect full rent for a little over a week of the month. They are collecting double the rent for a month and one week. So even though they waive the $250 for the security deposit and application fee, they are more than making up for it.Also, they mention a bunch of incentives and amenities during the lease signing period, that have not been provided. For instance, they offered free printing, heated bus stop area, 24-hour concierge, security guards, a PS4 in the game room, and a $750 gift card able to be applied towards rent. I was told that my gift card would be in my hand by August 22. Its September 19 and still no gift card. Every time I ask about it they say they should be here any day. Theres trash all over the place, and Ive only seen one elderly security guard. The fire alarm has been pulled two separate weekends so far, once at 3am and once at 4:45am. Also people have had things stolen out of there apartments. Where was the security guards? The manager and the staff are all on different pages. There was even a student who collected over 250 signatures on a petition about all the lies going on around here. All this hassle isnt worth it. Go live somewhere else where the managers and staff can be trusted and can communicate well with their residents.
I moved into this building on August 22nd, just like everyone else. I was very upset with having to pay the full $575 for the month of August, even though we were there for 9 days. The rent for September was due on the first and it felt like we had just paid, which we did. The staff during the leasing process was very kind and seemed very excited to have the new building and create an awesome space for students to live. I have not have one problem with any of the staff members. As others have said, there were a lot of incentives promised at the time of signing. For example, we were told that we would get a $750 gift card on move-in day. Its now September 24th and the gift cards are still not in our hands. The PS4 that was supposed to be in the game room? I havent seen it once. The pool is not heated like promised, and on a 95 degree day, the management decided to close it. People have had things stolen from their room during fire alarms, which were pulled by residents. My neighbor across the hall had his Xbox 360 stolen because they were more concerned with getting out of the building than locking their door at 3 in the morning. We have been locking our front door as well as our bedroom doors whenever we leave. Its pretty sad that we have to leave the door locked every second of the day in fear that our things will be stolen. The hallways have constantly been horrifyingly filthy. There was dried up vomit in the staircase for a week before anyone decided to clean it. The wifi is pretty terrible. We have a modem in our apartment, yet none of us have been able to connect to it once. The water pressure in the showers is absolutely terrible. Being a girl and having long hair, it takes me forever to wash shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. In our 4 bedroom apartment, we have a $120 cap for electric. We arent told how much electric we use at all. My roommate had a bike locked up in a bike rack in the front of the building and it was stolen. The building promised us that there would be security cameras in place to provide some comfort to us. There are no cameras whatsoever. Also, the security guard sits at the front desk on his phone instead of making sure everything is okay. My walls were supposed to be sound-proof. My windows face the train track and they are so incredibly loud. Its bad that they can even wake me up in the middle of the night being so loud. The walls and ceiling are so thin and we can hear everything our neighbors do.Some advice, seriously think about all of this before you sign into a lease. Even though the price is low, check out Edge and 401 before you make your decision. Dont get stuck in a terrible building. I know I wont be re-signing my lease next school year.
If there were a way to end my lease early I would do it, as Im sure many other people would which is why they dont allow you. For starters, the apartments were built horribly. The windows suck which let cold air in constantly, causing your heat to come on every five minutes driving up your electric bill. I pay $835/month and all that does for electricity is $30??? BULLSH*T. Every person living here pays more than enough to cover an electricity bill. Their cap will not even cover half of your winter electricity bill. Not to mention when I was given a tour before signing my lease a girl at the office said Even in December when I had all my christmas lights plugged in the entire time my roommates and I only went over our electric bill by $2 each. LOL OK SURE YOU DID. I get an added charge to my 835 / month rent almost every month even tho I am very eco friendly and do everything I can to keep my bill down. The windows need to be more energy efficient. I had to put towels all around them to block some of the cold air. The hall ways always smell like weed. The pool is never open. I hear my neighbors opening and closing their dresser drawers in the morning while theyre getting ready which is ridiculous. I can hear every foot step the people above me take not to mention theyre loud. This apartment building is for students who are known to be noisy so why not build it a little bit nicer? Why? Because they are cheap. They charge $60 for parking because they know they could charge any amount and wed have no other option of where to park because their is no on street parking available and the closest over night parking on campus is a far walk in the cold. This review is mostly about how the building was built not the staff. Staff is not bad and are helpful when you need them. I do not like the fact that if you submit a maintenance request they can come in your apartment even when you arent there and there is nothing you can do about it. When you fill out a request it automatically checks the box saying they can enter at anytime. Meaning even if I was in the shower or something they could let themselves right in. Its my apartment that I pay a buttload for. Nobody should be able to enter without me unlocking the door and letting them in. I have a cat who ripped the couch so I asked the office how much it is going to cost me when I move out, they said I had t ask maintenance. I ask maintenance and they say they have no idea. SO if I dont get a price soon I wont be paying a dime for the uncomfortable ugly couch. They provide you with a smart tv however none of the smart features work. Wifi sucks and I call airwave about my connection at least twice a month. You get about twelve channels with the bedroom cable. None of them being anything anybody wants to watch. There is a lot they could do to improve these apartment. Starting with tearing it down and rebuilding. I will never sign a lease here again and will do my best to make sure nobody I know does either. Now youve been warned before signing one for yourself.
HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE. Management gets into problems that arent their business, choose sides, etc. my friends havent had heat for a month and the management kept telling them we will get to it later... when is later?? Roaches. Trash everywhere. Ive seen people drop food and leave and it will be there for at least a week and sometimes longer. Its always loud and always smells like weed. All the electrical boxes are miss labeled and they wont fix it. If you plan on living here... good luck.
The Depot is an awful place to live! They will continuously scam you for money, and the management is rude and unhelpful. The property is unsafe, and you are not even guaranteed a spot if you pay for the parking garage. Weekends are like a zoo with random people all over, vomit all over the floors, and empty beer bottles everywhere. Once I left the apartment for work in the morning and 2 drunk strangers were smashing glass bottles on the parking deck floor. I felt so unsafe walking to my car that I was late for work. Do not live here.
This is a response from The Depot management:At The Depot we take the security of our residents very seriously. We have nightly patrols from a private security company and work directly with with the Akron Police. Since opening the property in August 2014, we have installed security cameras in the hallways which enables us to assist the police with any incidents. At this time we have reason to believe the incident that occurred at The Depot was not a random act of violence. It is our understanding the resident knew the person at the door and opened the door to allow them access. We encourage our residents to lock their apartment doors and report any suspicious behavior to the Akron Police Department.Management has a contract with a local pest control company. Any resident may submit a work order in the office and pest control will respond during their scheduled visits. During seasonal changes, especially as the temperature increases, pest activity increases. Please see a member of management for assistance. All residents are provided cable TV, internet, water, sewer and trash in their rent. In addition, there is a $30 per person credit given to each resident monthly for electric usage. Residents are only billed for electric overages above and beyond the $30 cap each (with no additional up-charges). The apartment heat at The Depot is electric, not gas. Management has worked closely with Ohio Edison to provide a listing of energy saving tips to our residents. If you have any questions regarding electric use please contact the office. The Depot has 24/7/365 on call maintenance. If there is an emergency after hours please call the main office line where you will be placed in contact with a call center. The emergency call center will contact the appropriate staff member to respond to your needs quickly. The internet and cable TV are run by Airwaves, if a resident has a problem with either utility they should contact Airwaves directly for trouble shooting. The contact information has been provided to each resident, but is also available in the office. In addition, a rep from Airwaves is stationed at The Depot one day during the first week of each month. Please contact management for specific details as the schedule may change due to scheduling. The Depot management is please to provide comfortable student housing in the Akron area. We are always available to address the needs of our residents. If you would like to meet with management please contact the office to arrange an appointment today! We look forward to hearing from you.Sincerely,The Depot Staff
All is well a The Depot. As a plankowner, I have seen management come and go, security companies come and go. The new management and security have been adequate for the current residents. Anemities are good, pool always opens Memorial weekend and closed after labour day, I wish it was yr round. Minor drug use is noticable when walking the halls, but you can never get rid of degenerates like that. Cats and legitimate Service animals are ok here, though I have noticed alot of dogs who are unquestionably non-service,due to lack of visible ID on the animal, I see all in the courtyard when they bring them out for air. Tenants are much better, parking is good, Maint crew is great. The only negative is the fact that the pool isnt year round. Any negative reviews after mine are likely irresponsible college kids who know nothing of common sense, lacking in responsible behavior, respect of properties they do not own and really bad with thier finances, and living above their means or off mommy and daddys paychecks who just dont care.
Place deserves 0 stars but since one is the lowest you can go, that will have to suffice. They will lie to get you in to the lease and then not follow through with anything that they say they will. Incentives took way too long to take effect, cameras that were promised only just recently were installed, ample bike space (two little racks), loud and obnoxious behavior of your neighbors, weekends smell of alcohol and marijuana, fire alarms will be pulled at all times of the night. I could go on forever. Just If you can avoid, just stay miles away from this place.
The management is pretty fantastic. Maintenance will fix absolutely anything and they are there super quick. The thing that really pushed me to make a review was I was outside at 4 in the morning and the inside fire pit area was freshly shoveled so people could walk through it. At 4 in the morning just because it had snowed...in the middle of the night. Also I was on my way to get free hot cocoa, which they have all the time. There is a free coffee machine. It has become a social thing. I see my friends there all the time :) in the morning before class or late at night to warm up.
Absolutely the worst place I have ever lived in. It has literally been one thing after another for the last 10 months. From awful roommates, to management screwing up rent and my lease. To very expensive electric and then my mail not getting to the correct mailbox. They threatened to kick me out because their system got messed up while I was out of the country. They changed my lease to state I moved in later than I did to try and keep me longer. They also tried to make it seem like I had not pay in full the month before so they could take more and more from me but I had proof that I had paid in full from my bank statements. They are just very crooked and not resident friendly. I feel bad for anyone who moves in. I honestly wish no stars was an option.
This might be the worst apartment building ever. The halls are covered in trash, they will nickel and dime you for every cent you have, and the management is horrible. Dont expect to ever receive a straight answer from management. They apparently have no idea what is going on in their building because every time you ask them a question they will tell you they dont know. So if you want to pay for an expensive apartment that looks horrible and have management that is completely clueless, this is the place for you.
If you want to know if the Depot is right for you, keep on reading!Do you like CRIME?Do you like extremely HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS?Do you like NOISY NEIGHBORS?Do you like nice facilities that youll never get to use because of VANDALISM?Do you like the SMELL OF WEED to overwhelm you every time you step into the hallway?Do you like TERRIBLE INTERNET?And lastly, do you like having management that will TREAT YOU LIKE A CHILD AND ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY AND NEVER HELP YOU WITH YOUR REQUESTS AND PROBLEMS?If youve said yes to any of the above statements, the Depot might be right for you!To go into further detail:CRIME(that has occurred since I moved in 8 months ago and know about):*VANDALISM*THEFT*ASSAULT AND BATTERY*DOMESTIC VIOLENCE*DRUGS*VANDALISM*ARMED ROBBERY*GANG VIOLENCE*ATTEMPT AT MURDER USING A FIREARM*THEFT lots of THEFT*oh and did I mention VANDALISM?HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS:Im in a 4 bedroom apartment with 4 guys inclusively and our total electric bill runs around $300-$350 a month???? Crazy hidden charge of $50 a month for electric for having your utilities includedNOISY NEIGHBORS:I dont think our neighbors down the hall have stopped partying since we moved in and our upstairs neighbors sound like theyre playing basketball all hours of the day and night, constantly drumming on the ground, along with the occasional sound of bricks falling off the back of a truck.VANDALISM:EVERYTHING THE DEPOT SUPPLIES OUTSIDE OF YOUR APARTMENT (aka perks) WILL BE BROKEN AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND UP TO AS FREQUENT AS ONCE A WEEK DEPEND ON THE PERK.WEED:24 hrs a day....TERRIBLE INTERNET:Why not go with a well known company like Time Warner when you can go with AirWave Networks and have your internet go out every three days?MANAGEMENT:You will NEVER, EVER here from the general manager. He or she is a ghost. Any problems you report to the people working in the office will be taken with a grain of salt and as soon as you leave their office theyll do absolutely nothing to help you. The only thing they care about is making money. They dont prorate the rent so youll pay the full $600 FOR ONE WEEK IN AUGUST and then have to pay again in September the full amount. Also, parking is $50 a month but the gate to get in to the parking garage is always broken so anyone who wants to can park here most days.I move out in July and am terrified to see what things they find wrong with my apartment so that they can nickle and dime me to death on move out.MY OVERALL ADVISE ON THE DEPOT:DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLETELY DESPERATE! ITS A TERRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE! The only good thing about living here is having a nice kitchen and your own room/bathroom. EVERYTHING ELSE IS HORRIBLE!ALSO NOTE: the only ratings higher than 3 stars occurred either before move in or right after move in before they had a chance to be in a proper position to rate the residence.
The facilities are mainly nice besides a few minor things that the construction workers rushed though to get done. The real problem is the lack of disciplinary action taken by the management. People are stealing things, making loud noises at night, smoking weed, and just plain acting like children. If I was them I would be calling the police daily and having people arrested for their out of control behavior. They dont demand respect from their residents and so none is given.
I HATE living here! Its Dangerous, Loud, Unorganzied and the Staff is HORRIBLE! That BS about the security cameras helping them to keep the buiding safe is a lie, there have been a number of incidents that have taken plce in that building that the residents didnt know about unitl it was 1. On the News or 2. Word of mouth. They scam people with the utilities and when you go to inquire about it all of the Admonistative staff magically dissapperas and leaves the stduent employess there to do the lying for them. The halls and elevators are always dirty and the walls in the building are paper thin. If you value your sleep dont move here because the building is right next to the train tracks and that runs at least every 20-25 minutes. :)
The management sucks. My daughter was being harrassed and threatened by her roommate so their only solution was to move her into a filthy unit or charge her 250.00 thwn i still got a 100.00 bill for the old unit. Ryan Rowe is basically a body no compassion at all. I can not wait until july to be done with this place!!!!
Horrible, Horrible experience here. Im paying all this money to have tenants that trash the place and management that are rude and impolite. On top of that there are no cameras in the halls which is completely INSANE!! Akron is not a suburb, robberies have occurred already in the apartment complex! I will not be renewing my lease and they couldnt pay me to stay here. I cant wait until July 31st!
Horrible office ! They just seem very angry and do not show any passion for work ! They don’t want to show you anything ! Everything they say is unfortunately Noooooo !!!!!!Please do not move in , Office is the first priority of any building ! If they are nice the apartment will be nice ! If they are horrible you have so much trouble to deal with in the future.
This place is absolutely horrible . Management has been changed so many time with each getting worse. “Heat and electricity included” this is a lie. They will overcharge you every month regardless. Management will fight with you even if they are wrong. DO NOT LIVE HERE.

2022-07-11Never picks up the phone, leasing office doors were locked, I’ve been trying to call and no ever really picks up the phone, and I’ve called several days in a row, have been looking for an apartment for a while, and I’ve been told a few different things from employees, so I hope they get on the same page about everything

2021-01-27I would definitely recommend living at The Depot! The management and maintenance are very kind and helpful. The new maintenance workers they hired are extremely knowledgeable and helpful from my experience! I also enjoy all the amenities they offer here, from the study rooms, free printing, and the grills! My friends and I who live here all have really enjoyed our living experience and are happy to call this place home while being a college student. Thank you everyone at the Depot! :)

2021-04-28Pretty okay place to live! Don’t live here though if you don’t like college students because that’s the whole community here! We have some amenities that need updating like the gym, computer room, etc. and just amenities you’ll never be able to use like the fire-pit and tanning beds. But overall the depot is a safe and easy place to live!!

2020-12-17After switching management the Depot has drastically improved in many ways. The staff is always around to answer calls and provide help and support when needed and maintenance request are done swiftly. You can tell they actually care for residents unlike the previous owners. So far with the few events they have done for residents they have been very fun. I am looking forward to see what they can do for the following year!

2021-04-29Took a tour of the property with my daughter and was very impressed! The staff was very friendly and the property is very well kept and clean unlike other properties Ive visited. The decor of the common areas and game room area are really unique and the outdoor area around the pool is just beautiful! Lots of amenities!

2020-12-15After switching management 3 times, I believe Depot is finally on its way to become great. I love the office workers they’re so kind and I love how fast maintenance is! I love the amenities and how easily accessible they are. I will say the only real issue here that we have is the wifi, it was kind of a big deal while we were taking classes however I understand things happen that arent in our control. I love it here now, it’s been my home for the last 3 years and strongly urge y’all to try it out

2020-12-16The Depot is not only an apartment complex, but its somewhere that genuinely feels like home. This is my second year living here and Ive never felt more safe and cared for than here. Being an office staff employee as well has only made me feel closer and connected to the resident community and I get to see first hand all of the improvements that The Depot is doing to make it even better than before.

2021-01-29I am absolutely obsessed with The Depot. I never really considered it before one of my sisters reached out and got my hooked! The rooms are sooo great. Having your own area and bathroom is soo nice. There are so many great amenities that come along with it. The pool, the game rooms, gym, study rooms. Perfect for a college kid. It was also the cheapest and had the most which is amazing!

2020-10-28I would strongly recommend living at the Depot to anyone looking for an apartment in the Akron area. I enjoyed the 24 hour workout facility, because it allowed me to get a workout at any time of the day. There are also nice studying areas. I really judge a place based on how they respond to the unexpected. I had to put through multiple maintenance requests during my time at the Depot, and these requests were answered in a timely manner.
