We had our sons wedding here. I honestly cannot say enough great things about the venue, the service, the attentiveness and the overall experience. We worked primarily with Natasha who was amazing. She made sure that even the smallest detail was taken care of. I highly recommend any event at this location. It was simply a wonderful experience.
Married my wife here. The staff was attentive and helpful throughout the entire process, and the venue/reception was absolutely gorgeous. It went on without any problems, and I could not ask for more on the most important day of my life. Highly recommend the Columbus Athenaeum!
This is a GREAT venue for weddings and whatever type of large parties you would like to have. You can have your wedding and reception at the same place but in different rooms. Im not sure how the food is handled but at the wedding and reception I attended there was hors doeuvres and dinner, and they served both along with the cake. There was also a photo booth. All in all it was a blast!!
We attended a wedding at the Antenaeum in Columbus and it was a stunning venue. Everywhere you look there are beautiful floors, gorgeous bathroom details, lovely vintage fixtures, pretty old beams. We attended the wedding ceremony is a really neat old theatre inside the building. It was a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony! We moved to the top story of a to a two story grand room for spies and cocktails. The staff was so polite and friendly. The space was really neat!If you are considering this venue for your event, go for it! As an out of town guest, it was a real treat to enjoy a piece of Columbuss history.Parking is not awesome, (its downtown, thats to be expected;) so leave enough time to find a spot!
I highly recommend the Athenaeum. They are patient, kind, professional and knowledgeable. I did extensive research, received many quotes and decided on the Athenaeum. With my chaotic work life, a hip replacement, and re-planning the same wedding 3x due to covid... I could not have asked for better people to work with. Always prompt responses and did everything in their power to make my day special. I am very thankful for their flexibility and support. I had my ceremony and reception there. Everything was perfect. I am so grateful for Gina, for all that her and her staff did for me. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Attended a conference here a couple of weeks ago. The facilities were nice. I was in several rooms on the right side of the building. We used both floors. Bathrooms on both floors too so lines were not too long. They served a buffet lunch of soup, salad and baked potatoes. The food was good. It did take several minutes to restock the lettuce bowl, otherwise the buffet was well stocked. Food was delicious. I chose the Italian wedding soup.We had to park in a garage one block north of the building. Cost $10 for the day.
Great venue for a wedding. The building itself feels vintage and the staff did an amazing job decorating. Service was fabulous. There are a number of different levels to the building which make it very practical to transition between the service and the reception smoothly. One of the better venues for a weeping that I have been to.
Not impressed with the staff more so the security here. They tried to tell us we had to leave and werent allowed to stand on the sidewalk that is public property. They went out of there way to come to us to tell us we had to leave the area. There was people they walked past literally standing in the middle of the sidewalk and came straight to us. Ive had better experience at literally every other venue. Just hope your favorite band doesnt get booked here..
Fantastic venue to catch a show!! I drove over 12 hours to catch a show that Magic Dick was featured in. Great show! Great crowd. The promoter overhead me talking to a fellow fan, and loved that I had made the trek from MA to see the show. They have a nice spot to pick up drinks and treats. They also do weddings! The promoter has great vision for this place....Im sure this place will be around for the count!
Terrible venue. We had to cancel the reception due to COVID and they tried to keep ALL of our money. We had to sue the Athenaeum to get even part of our money back. And they kept thousands for nothing! Although we didnt get to have our dinner - the food at the tasting was not good at all. And they wouldnt provide vegetarian dishes for the tasting so we had to order foods we had never tasted for the reception. Stay away from the Athenaem if you want your night to be special. I DO NOT recommend the Anthenaeum for anything.
The Athenaeum is a truly remarkable place. I first discovered this venue when I attended an Underoath concert there, and I saw that they were advertising that they also hosted weddings. My then-fiancé and I went back for multiple tours and fell in love with the venue. It’s full of history, and beauty, and I have not seen anything like it before. I love the Athenaeum. We booked with them last year, and our coordinator was Jackie. Jackie was very attentive, helpful, kind, and responsive. I cannot thank Jackie enough for all of the effort that she put into our wedding. She truly was such a joy to work with. The staff are all kind, and easy to work with. It makes me sad for multiple reasons that our wedding was canceled (not because of the Athenaeum), and I did not get to see all of our efforts unfold. But I can vouch that the Athenaeum is an amazing venue, and has amazing people working for them.
Wow absolutely the best! We attended a wedding and reception 💐 for a family member the ceremony was beautiful 💕 The appetizers with the cocktail hour really delish 😀 our main course dinners were truly amazing choices 😄 very good, they really go all the way to keep food available to be served buffet style like for us tonight, theyre all out to accommodate everyone 👍 For any type of function you really might want to look into this fabulous, fantastic, and FUN facility!!!
This is probably one of my new favorite concert venues. There is stadium seating on the sides and back and a large pit area. There are two downfalls to this venue. 1 - the bathrooms are on every other level and you have to navigate the stairs to get to them. 2 - the bar is situated in between the stairs and the back of the venue. As we came up the stairs we ran into the line for drinks and had to push our way through it to get to the show.
I attended a wedding here recently and although the place was beautiful, the food and the service staff were great the event manager was terrible. I watched a grown man slam his fists on the bar while yelling at his two female bartenders in front of 100 or so guests while the wedding was still going on. No manager should talk to their employees like that, no matter the circumstances, let alone in front of guests. It was rude, disrespectful and uncalled for. I would never work with him simply out of principle and I will be telling others I know not to have events here as well.
Drove 6 hours to attend a concert here and waited for hours outside in the December cold to make sure we got good spots in line. Then they told us they don’t want people waiting in line and we’d have to leave and come back when doors opened. It was extremely frustrating, especially since they didn’t come out and tell us this until an hour or so before the event. The venue itself was fine and the sound was good, but the lack of respect for the concert-goers was really disappointing and illogical. They really need to rework their system for concerts—it’s standard practice to wait in line and the huge crowd that resulted instead right before doors opened was just stressful.
I recently attended the House of Heroes 10th Anniversary Show, and it was off the chain! The band was incredible, and the historic downtown venue was pretty cool. My only complaint was the uncomfortable, un-padded solid wooden seats (which arent a problem for a standing-room-only show, but are something to consider if you are attending another type of event).
The staff at the Columbus Athenaeum are experts at customer service and hospitality. We had a phenomenal wedding at an affordable price in a historic and beautiful location! From the moment we inquired about having our wedding at the Athenaeum to the final load out at the wedding - every single detail was executed perfectly by their staff. The food is exquisite! We have a very foodie family and everyone raved about our wedding food. We had a buffet style diner but the staff served my husband and I and made sure we had drinks at all times. :) We were actually able to enjoy ourselves at our wedding.Every time I stopped in to make a payment or drop off a contract, the staff made me feel like I was their only client, when in fact they do hundreds events a year.We did lots of research on several types of venues including DIY style, and the cost for 160 guests at the Athenaeum was one of the most affordable options. And they did most of the work!
I went there for the i see stars concert which was very good you guys rock. It was a nice small auditorium. A very historical and beautiful building. I prefer smaller a auditorium. Nationwide arena shot are nice but its like spending 300$ to watch a large screen tv i do that at home for free. Im looking forward to going back. Also if anyone is looking for a place to have a wedding this is it. The building is huge. More then just a auditorium. Dining area ect... Ok its sooo pretty the bathrooms are like beautiful.
We had our wedding in October in the Olympian room. It was absolutely beautiful!! Christine became our coordinator half way through our planning process, our 1st coordinator left. We were a little nervous to have someone new join us in the middle of our process, but she came in and did an amazing job!! She meet with us and instantly understood what we were going for with the look of our wedding. She was so easy to work with and was very detail oriented she did an absolutely amazing job with all of our ideas and setting everything up to look exactly like we wanted it too!! I honestly can’t say enough good things about Christine!
Sound was absolutely terrible for the Peter Murphy 40 years of Bauhaus show. He is a legend and deserves better! You couldnt hear anything over the kick drum and the piercing feedback that seemed to get worse as the evening progressed, ruined some of my favorite songs. I really wish I hadnt gone at all. I would much rather have missed it, imagining what a great show it might have been, rather than having such a lousy experience of a show that I was really looking forward to.
Beautiful place. Our room was nicely sized for our not humongous party, but theres larger rooms too. However, my party was on the 3rd floor and the mens bathroom was on the 4th. Then I found the only toilet was out of order and the other one was on the first floor. That one had 2 toilets, one of which was missing a seat.
Once each year for the past several years, a small group of us has gathered at The Columbus Athenaeum on the Thursday before the annual Stonewall Columbus Pride Brunch to pack the 600-or-so gift bags that will be given to each participant during that annual event. Before packing the 600-or-so brunch bags, many of the bag-packers meet in advance to share lunch together at The Pine Room, a small restaurant within The Columbus Athenaeum that is open to the public but is well-hidden except for a small sandwich sign that is displayed on the sidewalk during open hours. The Pine Room is located at the north end of the first-floor hallway. If you ever are in the area on a weekday between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., I recommend eating at The Pine Room. The staff is friendly; the food is quite good and reasonably-priced.The Columbus Athenaeum is a wonderful old building but the lighting level in most of the rooms is extremely low. I actually had to leave this years gift bag packing event moments after we had started to pack the bags because I had been unable to see anything.
The owner mark worst person I have ever meet, does not have any decency to talk to clients in front of kids. Just cos we were ready to take down event and our cars were park on the loading dock he just lost it and went crazy on us and started yelling. Telling a vendor not to take any jobs here anymore just cos my car was parked on his dock. Awful person to work with and if you are a vendor beware of it cos the owner of the building does not treat people right. Very very rude person and will never take any job in future to work at this venue. We have done enough events around town and at all sorts of venue but never seen a rude person like Mark. Management staff is very nice but they even know his attitude and also complain how hard it’s to work with him. Above all if you planning a ethnic wedding at this Venue than we strongly suggest not to use this venue as the owner likes to discriminate people from oversees. Please think twice before you book this venue cos of the owner and please consider the other venue around downtown cos the management staff are 100 times better then this place.
Loved loved loved The Columbus Athenaeum! We worked with Sarah and Gina and they were kind, professional, and brilliant! The food was amazing (we had the chicken bru blanc and the ratatouille {which was our vegetarian/vegan entree}) and all the vendors drop offs went smoothly. The bartenders were amazing and our guests loved the photo booth! The decorations were beautiful and tasteful and the whole night ran so smoothly!
Absolutely horrible. If you’re planning a wedding and want to choose your own vendors, stay away from this place. They have a “preferred vendor” list that you have to choose from, otherwise you have to pay extra to have your own vendors.Unfortunately their vendors are not the best, they just pay them to be on their list. Since they are on their list, the vendors charge more because you have to use one of them. They will actually talk you out of hiring another outside vendor because of this. The most unprofessional, dishonest, untrustworthy place I’ve ever seen.If you want your own wedding, please go somewhere else. I will do the same and refer any other venue besides this place, since they said it would be in our best interest to use their “preferred” vendors. Laughable.
We had our wedding reception here in 2002. An old Masonic Temple, there are rooms of any size for almost any type of event. The building has been preserved; its history comes through in the Masonic symbols and furnishings. We showed the video of our Las Vegas wedding in The Priory, a theater on the 3rd or 4th floor. We had hors doeuvres on the balcony overlooking the 1st floor Ballroom, the largest room where dinner was served. The staff accommodated our detailed requests regarding the specific foods & recipes we wanted and allowed us to buy the wine from a local distributor, to be served to our guests. They also allowed us to choose the staffing agency to provide the servers; we chose A Sharp Staff, an excellent service run by Al & Laura Sharp. It was a great night: the best wedding ever, according to guests. This year, we attended a show in the Large Theater (2nd or 3rd floor) and saw the band, Sleep. I was impressed by the versatility of the events that prove successful at the Columbus Athenaeum. It was a packed show, with the floor completely crowded from stage to entrance. There were a lot of people in the stadium style seating that surrounds the floor area. There were merch tables set up in a hallway, which also served to control the movement of the crowd. The bar was set up in front of the entrance to the theater.I recommend this location to anyone for any type of event. The majority of rooms involve stairs for access but there is at least one 1st floor option. Parking is limited on the street but theres a garage nearby w/ $5 parking. The owners & staff are great. I cant say enough good things about The Columbus Athenaeum!
I love the Columbus Athenaeum! I had my wedding reception in the ballroom on St Patricks Day, and to this day my family and friends say that it was one of the best wedding receptions that they have ever attended. The atmosphere is very elegant and there are lots of fantastic photo opportunities inside the building. In addition, the food was amazing. The chef is a genius! As a bride, you have a lot of emotions and concerns that seem to multiply as the big day gets closer. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous. Gina Cristofani was very approachable and answered my questions with amazing timeliness. She took my crazy bride brain in stride.I have read earlier reviews about the price, and yes wedding and receptions can be expensive, but they are expensive everywhere. I truly believe that you get what you pay for, and I dont regret any of the money I spent on my wedding, The staff at the Columbus Athenaeum provided me with a fabulous wedding reception and I thank them for it.
Originally a Scottish Rite Masonic Temple (at 33 N. 4th, no less... or is it 32?), the owners have kept its interior in tact, complete with much of the original furniture. This is an event space with many types of rooms for almost any purpose. Promoters started booking bands here and its a brilliant thing! Previously, it had been mainly a place for weddings & other celebrations or even meetings. There is only street or garage parking available nearby. Nonetheless, its a gorgeous and historic downtown Columbus building and any opportunity to visit should be taken!
Beware the Columbus Athenaeum. I will say that the Athenaeum takes great pains to charge you for whatever they can, and when they cant they find some late fee or another to throw in.My biggest complaint is how I, the bride was treated when I had a legitimate gripe. We asked, Ann Clark once we got off the Trolley at the Athenaeum where we could store the cooler, which only had alcohol, in which was for the Trolley ONLY. We were told it could be stored behind the bar. I do know that the groomsmen tried to make a drink and the bartender told them that they could not do that, so the alcohol and cooler were moved. They sent us a final receipt and order that UPGRADED the bar from beer/wine to full liquor bar for our entire wedding guest amount. How would one (1) cooler pertain to 219 people and change the overall cost of Bar setup? If we were told that storing the cooler at the bar would have changed the setup fee, we would have never put the cooler behind the bar, we would have had someone put in their car. This situation was NEVER discussed with the bride and/or groom or even mothers during the event. This was a BIG mistake, seeing as how no other drinks were ever made by the bartender to make it a Full Bar set up. All night the 219 guests had ONLY beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverage served by the bartender.According to the General Conditions; under Food/Beverage it states as following If outside food/beverage items are brought into the TCA without specific written authorization, TCA reserves the right to remove items until the conclusion of the event and the client is responsible for any applicable handling fee We found not wording of such in our contract.Four days or several phone calls and an email to Ann Clark and members in the Accounting Dept., a man named Mike (Banquet Manager) called to explain the situation. His tone and demeanor was VERY unprofessional and he had no interest in rectifying the situation or even hearing our side of the story! He constantly interrupted me and was raising his voice, as if I was doing the same or gave him any reason to be upset. If anyone should be upset it was this bride! I was hysterical after I got off the phone with him! I could not believe the lack of respect, professionalism and common courtesy. Is this how venues treat they patrons, especially since word of mouth the best way of referral AND we had dropped thousands of dollars on this event? We should get exactly everything I paid for when making that kind of investment.Overall, we were happy with the service during the actual wedding reception and with the planning beforehand with Ann, but after we made our last payment and final detail meeting we were just another number to them. The Athenaeum is certainly impetuous with their clients. If you plan events here don’t expect warm fuzzy customer service or any form of follow up. Which is sad to see when planning a joyous event that you are sharing with your loved one and to recieve such COLD hearted services from individuals you planned with for many months. Maybe, I just expect too much from people (shrug).Words of the wise: More than anything else, MAKE SURE YOU GET AND PUT EVERYTHING IN WRITING.

2022-04-07Very cool venue. Apparently it was a Masonic temple. Lots of old ornate architecture and stone. This show was on the third floor and there was plenty of floor room and stadium seating. Felt like a school gym/auditorium in a good way

2022-06-04BEAUTIFUL space built during a previous age when craftsmen created art...Sadly - it is not utilized by local orchestras, bands, concert venue to help keep the lights burning brightly! The organ was tuned today and sounds fairly good! Not all stops functional but that is a major renovation AFTER a new roof!!!HOPE the owners/administrators are able to get HISTORIC REGISTRY and Grants to save this amazing landmark for future generations!!!

2022-02-18This is a really great venue, great location, great seating while still being intimate. However, and hopefully this is just a temporary problem, it was REMARKABLY cold in there. Like everyone had their winter coats on and were still chilly. But otherwise will definitely be back for more shows, just a bit layered up.

2022-02-14Horrible time due to the venue... No heat at all during the concert Friday night. The only positive was the Eric Clapton tribute band was over the top awesome. It was so cold you could see the performers breath as that sang.... Not sure if Ill ever go there again.

2022-04-12Really lacking in one area. Great sound, good size 1500 capacity, friendly staff. There are security guys for rock and metal shows, but the venue as of 4/3/2022 doesnt check for weapons, guns, knives, etc. No metal detecting wands or devices in use. Will not be back until this aspect is fixed. RIP Dimebag!

2021-02-18Had my wedding here prior to covid. We did a tasting prior to the wedding the food was great at the tasting seemed not to be has tasty at the actual wedding. But these people went above and beyond to bring my vision to life they have everything planned and are great at keeping the event on time. They made sure I had the perfect day.

2019-07-15Very nice old building in downtown Columbus. If you cant find street parking there are open inexpensive parking lots within a block or two. Restrooms were very clean. Concert area was large enough to accommodate a couple hundred people. We went to see Phineas and Wolves At The Gate and had an amazing time!!!
