My parents moved into The Avalon in February of 2020 when it was formerly known as First and Main. They were there for just over six weeks when the lockdown occurred due to Covid-19. The staff worked overtime to ensure their comfort and safety. They also did everything to keep up their spirits, as they endured physical separation from their family. As restrictions lifted, the amazing social life of the center has swung back into full swing with corn roasts, happy hours, a family fish fry--the best fish and chips Ive ever had!--a hog roast hoedown, and all of the other activities that the residents love. By and far, though, what I love most about The Avalon is the staff. I actually am tearing up as I write this thinking about how much they love and care for my parents. I will always be grateful that we found The Avalon!
My grandmother moved into this facility a year ago . This is what assisted living should be . The food is good , homemade . She is happy and has friends , the staff takes great care of her and the nurses and aides are professional and knowledgeable and community everything. They have become like family to my family . Im grateful that my grandma is living the life she deserves
Chef Barbosa and her culinary team don’t just go above and beyond for our residents on a daily basis, they host amazing friends and family events regularly. Carefully thought out, well organized, fun, and personalized gatherings… not to mention AMAZING FOOD! If you haven’t attended one yet, I highly recommend checking out their next event.Easy to find on their events page on theavalonofnewalbany.com
Great sales pitch: Horrible unprofessional degrading care. I wish I could give less stars. We enrolled my father in the memory care unit at this summer. We moved him out a month later in June. During this 1 month friends, family, and his hospice care nurses voiced shock at the rapid deterioration of his health along with concerns for his overall safety and well being. In 1 month, he lost 20lbs. He is now terrified to be in enclosed spaces, is afraid to change his clothes and constantly asks “are they going to hurt me?”Luckily (or unluckily), we had a Nest camera in his room and witnessed a multitude of unsatisfactory and borderline appalling care instances. Such as:Being stuck in his room for over 12 hours. Missing all meals and not one person from the staff even coming to check on himWearing soiled clothesSleeping in a soiled bedWearing a soiled (not urine) diaper for 8+ hoursBeing yelled at by a staff memberNot once did they bathe him while he was thereSlow or incapable of cleaning urine in his room...smelled awfulAt first we thought these were just growing pains until the staff learned how to best work with my father. After multiple calls, constant in-person interactions with the entire staff and leadership nothing improved. In fact things only got worse, as several of the best staff members quit during this 1 month period. We would watch in horror as he was stuck in his room for 12+ hours, missing meals, upset and scared. During this time no one came to check on him until we called the facility or physically showed up ourselves. The staff in the memory care unit is completely absent and hard to find most days. Due to my father’s condition he has additional care support from Hospice. The Hospice nurses would visit him 2-3 times a week. On several occasions the Hospice nurses could not locate the floor nurse. If you want your loved one to watch tv all day, this is the place for them.
First & Main of New Albany provided wonderful care for our family member. The care providers were consistently patient and kind. The staff was always responsive when we had questions and attended to our requests in providing quality care and dignity for our loved one. Thanks, Rob, for making the activities fun and engaging for the residents!
First & Main of New Albany has the most caring staff I have ever seen in my 15 years in the senior living industry. I have seen it all, believe me. It is truly a family environment that you have to see and experience for yourself. Its unlike any other. If your loved one is in need of assisted living or memory support this is the place for them to be, hands down.
I have been working at The Avalon Of New Albany for a year now, what i can tell you this is probably the best job i have had since i have been working for the past 6 years never been at a job this long, from the residents to the staff we are just a big happy family i suggest having your family here it’s such a safe caring place!
I had my mom in the Inn at Summit Trail. It was ok in the begining but as time went by things went down hill and I had to find another assisted living facility (read my review on The Inn At Summit Trail). The Avalon Of New Albany happen to call to see how my search was going and that is when I found out that It was affordable and me and my mon took a tour. The staff was very warm and inviting and the tour was amazing! Just looking how you can have your family member make thier room look just like thier own room they had before which is really nice because these apartments are very spacious compared to other homes. Its very bright and open with a beautiful garden that the residents can go out and talk with family or other residents. The staff takes excellent care of your loved one and treats them just like thier own family. They have activities planned everyday and they will take your family member to appointments and shopping all the time! I recommend coming and taking a tour. Thank you staff, for taking really good care of my mom and I dont have to worry anymore as I did in the first assisted living she was in.

2022-02-04It is a hard and stressful decision to make to place a loved one in assisted living. After long consideration with my mom’s input and looking at multiple facilities, we made the decision to move her into The Avalon of New Albany. At our first meeting, we all knew that this place was going to carefully take care of our mom! It was and has become very obvious that the kind and helpful staff would make my mom comfortable, safe, and appreciated. Although it has been a big adjustment for her, she has settled in with 3 wonderful meals a day and is surrounded by a staff that truly cares about her well being and happiness. The comfort and security that this has given my brother and I is truly immeasurable. A weight has been lifted from our shoulders! A sincere thanks to everyone in this facility who is providing the full scope of care, interest, and kindness to our mom who deserves only the very best!

2022-04-19Our mom moved in February this year. We thought it would be a difficult transition for her since she has enjoyed her condo for the last several years. Much to my surprise she really seems to like it a lot!. The staff is very attentive and check on her several times a day and night. The folks in the dining room do great with a variety of meals and snacks - restaurant quality in every way! Shes always off to an activity such as a movie, choir, bingo, shopping or even going out to lunch...whodathought! 5 Stars! Thanks Avalon!

2021-11-11Picking a senior living center for my mother was a very difficult decision. We chose the The Avalon of New Albany and the experience has been exceptional from the beginning. The facility looks great and is very clean. The staff continually exceeds my expectations with the care given to my mother. When I asked my mom how she liked the staff her feedback has always been exceptional. My experience with The Avalon of New Albany has given me peace of mind that we found a place where mom feels at home and we feel she is taken care of like a family member

2021-12-09After Unsatisfactory Personal Experiences with several Other Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing facilities in Central and Southern Ohio, and Hours of Online Research - 2 years ago we chose to move our Aunt to what was First & Main of New Albany, and is now The Avalon of New Albany. Even though she had difficulty at first leaving her Home, she has adjusted very well, and is now Happy with where she is and what it offers.Several factors attracted us initially, including the Dedication and Professionalism of the Management Team, and Nursing Staff, the Cleanliness of the entire property, the many Amenities, Activities, and Outstanding Food, which we have eaten several times. This facility has Many things to offer that the others do not. They have an on-site Chapel, Movie Theater, Beauty Salon, Craft and Hobby rooms, Party rooms, Meeting Areas for Family & Friends, Florida Rooms, Exercise Rooms, a Beautifully maintained and landscaped Courtyard, Excellent Chef and Cafeteria, weekly Games including Bingo, Euchre, Entertainment, Social Events, Crafts, Gardening, and host Special Events/Parties monthly. Recently there was a Fish Fry, Hog Roast, Pancake Breakfast, OSU Tailgate Party with bonfire, Thanksgiving Feast, and there will be a Christmas Party as usual, for Residents and Family. The 24/7 Nursing and Caregiver staff is Dedicated and Hard Working, and Second to None compared to what we have experienced elsewhere.Although it is Very Difficult for seniors to leave their Homes when the time comes that they cannot live alone or care for themselves, an Assisted Living facility as nice as The Avalon can and has made that transition so much better. Highly Recommend The Avalon to anyone looking for a New Home for their Loved Ones.

2021-11-19Special thanks to Avalons management and staff for their attention and focus on resident appreciation and activities. Two recent examples include the special salute, thoughtful, and solemn tribute to all who served on Veterans Day. Filled with remembrance, recognition to men, women and families who supported all Veterans. Thank you for remembering!Lastly, another hats off to The Avalon for a very successful Thanksgiving Dinner. Good food, pleasant surroundings, friendship, and much joy! Well Done!!

Today I was fortunate to be invited to their choir concert followed by a very nice Thanksgiving Dinner with my dear friend. The staff went all out to make this a wonderful time.Thank you staff for showing that you care.

We have a wonderful staff to resident ratio, great food , a beautiful clean environment. It has been such a gift to be a part of the lives of the staff and the residents . Stop by and see us anytime , we welcome a pop up visit , share a homemade desert and a cup off coffee or tea and get to know us .
