Absolutely amazing results. Dr Haussler has went so far above and beyond expectations. Personally called me several times throughout the weekend to check up on George. When he was having problems getting comfortable and adjusted, Dr Haussler was readily available with a solution. I have posted before and after photos after just ONE WEEK (at least two weeks for total healing) and am so beyond thrilled with the results.
Dr. Spatola and all of the staff treated our guinea pig with such care and compassion. They quickly diagnosed his eye ulcer and also discovered he had facial paralysis. They helped us treat his eye and also sent all of their records to his primary vet to coordinate care for the underlying conditions that may have caused his paralysis. They provide very thorough and knowledgeable treatment - even for the tiniest of pets!
The entire staff was very courteous and helpful. The young lady that did basic testing on my beagle named Levi , explained everything and treated my dog with extreme kindness and patience. Dr Korb explained everything very clearly and gave me multiple options for treatments .highly recommend.
Drove out from Indy for an urgent appointment for my dog after our general vet wasn’t able to help his eyes. They quickly diagnosed him and within 24 hours, I can tell he is feeling 100x better. Both my vet tech and Dr. Korb were both thorough and kind. So happy I found them!
Nobody likes to be referred to a specialist. Our little pup needed to have his eye looked at and I am glad our vet told us to come here! From the moment we walked in, everyone was very sweet and caring! The doctor was thorough in his exam and in his explanation of recommend action. He gave us an estimate for surgery (a LOT cheaper than I expected!) but didnt pressure us to schedule RIGHT NOW. (I will add that our pup was too young for surgery anyway)We look forward to our little one getting surgery and living a happy healthy life!!
We took our cat Mouse in today. She has been having eye issues lately and the doctors here were able to find the source of the problem. The staff is super nice and the doctors are willing to keep checking up on Mouse to make sure her eyes are improving. I highly recommend.
My recent experience with the Animal Eye Institute has been over a span of roughly the last 5 months. We watched our dog become diagnosed with a eye condition that we had never heard of until his issues started; his condition is breed specific. We watched our dog lose his sight and go blind not in just one eye but both in a short span of time. The Animal Eye Institute helped us prolong our dogs sight even if just for a short time and when his sight was lost, helped us mitigate his condition to return as much quality of life as possible. They have always been very professional and beyond accommodating. Examples of this would be if we ran late or arrived early they would still get us in as we traveled 6hrs round trip to take our dog there. As well If we needed medicine called into a pharmacy that was local to our home before our next appointment because we had ran out, they made sure it was taken care of.Some other reviews on goggle complain about the cost so I’ll discuss my thoughts and experiences regarding that. As for the cost of all this it can be looked at as expensive, or it can be looked at it as appropriate. We felt it was appropriate as ophthalmology is a specialty, and with that by the time you add in their cost of office space, over head of maintaining that office, maintaining a support staff, procedural equipment and I don’t even want to imagine the tremendous amount of student loans that have to be repaid for their education to be able to offer these services to us in the first place. As for our pets outcome we were pleased. They prolonged his sight as long as they could with medications and when that no longer worked, they came up with surgical options to eliminate his pain and restore as much quality of life as possible. Our pet suffered no post surgical complications, they called twice during the initial post op period to check on our dog, and provided contact emails and phone numbers if questions or complications would arise from us during the two week post op recover period. The only thing I wish they did a little different is to try to discuss with the pet owner a little more bluntly what the pet will look like post op for the first few days. They do discuss things with you but in a manor that attempts to ease your mind before the surgery. They did say he’s going look a little rough for a few days once the surgery was over with and we are standing there with him in a small panic due to his presentation seeing him the first time post op. Now I want to be clear this was completely normal and just part of the the surgery / post op for our pets specific case, there was going to be a fair amount bloody drainage. We just didn’t expect how rough he would look post op for the first few days. However in the staffs defense it is hard to prepare someone for that.
They good and polite. The curbside service was ok. But wouldve like to be in there with my dog. I do understand the COVID is a concern but still like to be with my dog. But they took good care of him and the doctor was great. And the re-look appointment was easy to make.
My 12 year old dog was diagnosed with cataracts. We had his cataract surgery about 2 months ago at Animal Eye Institute. As a result, he has lost vision in his left eye, and the vision in his right eye is pretty much nonexistent. Many follow up visits, many, many drops, and a lot of pain and discomfort for my dog. Supposedly he was a good candidate for surgery, but he has not done well at all. Very disappointed and heartbroken that we did this to him! We NEVER should have had this surgery done. The doctors are not optimistic.
This place worked their butt off to get our cat healthy again!! They performed two surgeries (both went perfectly and the cat healed quickly) -- and they went back and forth with us for over 9 months until the cat was feeling perfect again 😊 they were always very kind to our cat and clearly care about the outcome you get with your pet!
Dr. DJ and his team are the greatest. You will never find a veterinarian or staff that care more about your Animal and their eyes ever. They take the time to explain everything that is going to happen and the possible side effects as well as their continued effort to fix those should they occur. I dont think I met one person who didnt whole heartedly care about every patient they had. The stories they told us showed they all cared and took great pleasure in helping animals to see again. If you want your pet to be taken care of by someone who will do everything you would to make their life better this is the place.
Everyone that we have interacted with have been very nice and informative. We brought our 18 year old cat who had detached retinas due to high blood pressure, in both eyes. She has been placed on high pressure medication which has lowered her BP and the retinas have reattached and her sight has returned! We are very pleased!
Dr. DJ and his staff are excellent and very compassionate. My daughters dog had a eye issue and I called after office hours and left a message for him to call me. He not only called me within 30 minutes of calling him he went over the information we got from the vet to make sure Chewy did not need emergency care before we could get into to see him. Dr. DJ and his staff give your pets the very best care and they answer all of your questions. I truly love this practice.
I am blown away by the thoroughness and professionalism of this office. My new senior rescue was seen by Dr. Spatola as this baby came with cataracts and previous injury to his one eye. They did a complete eye exam-including dilation, glaucoma check and test for dry eye. We discussed surgery, and eye drops were prescribed for the inflammation in my pups eyes. On my return visit, I fully expected this office to then say that surgery was the next step! However I was wrong-the inflammation had dissipated with the use of the eye drops, and as my pup could still see, and did not bump into things, it was suggested that we hold off. They do not just take your dog to surgery! I HIGHLY recommend this office and Dr. Spatola! He is genuinely concerned for your fur-baby, and took the time to answer any of my questions. The office staff is just lovely! I highly recommend this practice!
They might be more pricey than an regular vet but they are a specialist and worth every penny. I am by no means wealthy, but my dog is my family and worth the care they provide. Also, in the long run it is cheaper since I was going to my regular vet about every 3 months for years and dropping $150-$250 for them to put a bandaid on the problem and not solve the actual issue at hand. I was told my dog was going to loose sight in both eyes and thanks to Dr. Haeussler and his team that wasn’t the case. Within two months all three of his corneal ulcers were healed with the other issues finally being under control. They told me their plan with his eyes and he does get drops daily. The drops last three months before I refill and have saved me trips to the vet every few months for eye issues and his ulcers haven’t been back since! Which is amazing since my dog has had eye issues for years without answers. Overall, I am very thankful for the work they have done with my dogs eyes and the genuine love the entire staff has for ever animal that walks in thedoor.
What can I say, if you have a dog and he has eye problems this is the place to go.Who knew that there was an eye specialist for dogs with eye problems?I went there because I had a dog with cataracts and needed some advice. I was told this was the place to go and they were great.Everyone was friendly, everyone was kind, they were very informative and they spent quite a bit of time discussing options and what was wrong.Be prepared that like all specialists it will be a little expensive, but you will be very happy with the care and the attention your dog is given
I have been taking my English Bulldog Butch to The Animal Eye Institute for about 6 months now. There have been multiple issues with both of his eyes and Dr Haeussler along with the rest of his staff have been nothing but wonderful. They are always accommodating and upfront about cost regarding procedures or appointments. I am a veterinary technician and also incredibly selective with my dogs care and I trust the staff at the eye institute completely. They are great & I would recommend them to any owners who need an opthamologist for their pet.
Very friendly it is the only place I would go for eye issues in my dogs. They truely care about each animal. Morgan the receptionist is wonderful. Dr. Haeussler is awesome he takes the time to explain what is wrong and proper care. I cant say enough good things would recommend to anyone I know that needs an animal eye doctor.
Our 3 year old Australian Shepherd got glaucoma, which seemed to appear overnight. Trips to two vet clinics and both suggested removing the eye and stitching shut the eye socket. We inquired about other options and were referred to The Animal Eye Institute. After trying for a month to save his eye, the decision was made for removal. Fortunately, Bear was able to get a prosthetic eye and is doing so much better. Dr. Haeussler and his staff have been wonderful in their care and treatment of our baby Bear. We cant express enough how grateful we are to have teamed up with compassionate, animal loving people such as we are. If your animal needs specialty eye Care, The Animal Eye Institute is definitely the place for you to have them treated!
Took my dog in for an eye ulcer. He had to have a procedure done. The Dr. quoted me a price. I approved the procedure. After it was over I went to pay and it was over $100 more than what I thought it would be. They reduced it some, but still had to pay over $50 more than what I was quoted. When I got home I noticed they charged me $75 for two medications I previously had (paid less than $30 for both) and they knew he was already taking. Brought him back for a follow up exam. Was told the procedure worked but he had to have another procedure. Was quoted a price and confirmed it would not be more than that, so I approved it. After the procedure was over I go to pay and was way over $100 more than what I was quoted. I will not be going back for a follow up. I am tired of being charged more than what I approve. And your reply is also not truthful. At no time was medication went over with me. After my dog received the procedure he was brought out and very loopy because of the anesthesia. There was an aggressive dog coming out of the exam room trying to leave so it was urgent that I quickly leave the office. At no time was I asked which medications I was receiving or if I needed more of what he was already on. I received a call after I left from a staff member explaining what I was suppose to do and what the medications were. And when you are told a price for everything, everything usually means everything and nothing else added. Yes, this happened twice.
A few years ago, I had both of my dogs eyes operated on for cataracts. The result was positive and he healed in the expected time frame. At all times, the Dr. Haeussler and staff were friendly, professional, and caring.A little over a year ago I brought in a rescue dog for a similar problem. Only one eye was a candidate for surgery. The result was not as positive but I understood from the outset that the rescue dogs situation was different. He healed in the expected time frame but unfortunately and much to my disappointment he sustained a detached retina soon thereafter. However, I continue to have complete confidence in Dr. Haeussler and do not feel that anything that was done caused the subsequent problem. I only mention this because eye surgery for pets is an extremely costly and generally uninsured procedure so when making a decision to do this, it is important to remember that there are risks with any surgical procedure and results are not guaranteed for animals or people. I fully recommend the Animal Eye Institute.
I am giving Dr. Haeussler a five star rating without hesitation. From my initial call to my latest visit, both he & his staff have been courteous, helpful & very friendly. His top-of-the-line equipment paired with his knowledge & expertise has given both my dog & me the best possible experience. Shay, (female Doberman; age 7.5 years) had lost her sight due to developing cataracts. Shays vision has been restored & she is know able to enjoy/bark at everything she had been missing due to her vision loss. A huge THANK YOU to Dr. Haeussler & staff for a job well done & 2 paws WAY UP from Miss Shay!
I was referred to this office when my very experienced vet could not figure out why my cats pupil was dilated and the eye bulging, making her dizzy and sick. I was able to see Dr. Haeussler that same day, and he immediately knew what was wrong, diagnosing her with aqueous misdirection syndrome, an extremely rare condition that could eventually cause blindness. Within a week she had surgery to remove the lens of her eye, and shes now completely back to normal and still has her sight! Im grateful to have a pet eye specialist nearby who had the knowledge to take care of her eye and keep my kitty healthy and happy!
My dog suddenly began squinting with one eye. We took her to the emergency room and to our vet, neither of whom diagnosed her correctly. I called the anima eye institute and they got her in within a couple of hours. We saw Dr. Spatola and he diagnosed and treated an insolent corneal ulcer. I was very worried and called back twice before our schedule follow up and both Times they fit us right in. They were all very kind and patient and Dr. Spatola is top notch. I really appreciated his kindness and his evidence based approach.
We have been a client of Dr. Haeusslers for approximately 3 years. Our basset hound developed glaucoma in one eye, and there were no eye specialists in our area. We found the Animal Eye Institute online, and were referred to them by our regular vet. We drive approximately 1.5 hours from Indiana. The staff has always been very professional and caring for our dog. Dr. Haeussler discussed our options, and our dog has responded very well to the medications prescribed, without surgery. Although our dogs eyesight was not restored (her eye was under too much pressure for too long), the medication has reduced her eye pressures and an artificial eye was not needed. Dr. Haeussler is now keeping an eye (no pun intended) on her other eye, to be be sure glaucoma doesnt develop there also. We have even called him on an emergency basis and they met us in the Norwood office on a Saturday! We are extremely satisified with the care our dog has received.
I wish I never would have taken my dog to this unprofessional office. The doctor did an extra procedure without my authorization to increase the bill by $500. I stated I was not happy with his lack of communication and I have yet to receive a returned email. Now 7 months later and my pup is still not healed, his secretary says he will not longer do business or see me because of this. I never raised my voice with any of his staff but stated my displeasure with adding a procedure I did not ask for or authorize. My puppy should not be the one to suffer. I will be taking their company to court.
I am a small animal veterinarian in the Cleveland area and worked under Dr. Haeussler while at The Ohio State University College Of Veterinary Medicine. Ive been in practice for nearly 10 years and even with that experience I still see ocular cases that are difficult to diagnose/treat. Dr. Haeussler, despite his busy appointment and surgical schedules, consistently takes the time to evaluate, diagnose and make treatment recommendations on the cases that I discuss with him. He has helped dozens of dogs from hundreds of miles away that hes never even seen before and I cant thank him enough for his time and knowledge. I highly recommend anyone that is in need of his expertise go see him and his staff!
1 year ago I brought my golden retriever to AEI for cataract surgery on both eyes.Lily was totally blind and having a hard time with it and was unable to swim any more. Thanks to Dr Haeussler Lily can see again!!! Shes back to being her old self and swimming at the lake again. I highly recommend AEI. They are very compassionate and and professional.
Brought mythere for her cherry eye and had surgery on her eye and when she got home from surgery her one eye was fixed but the other then had a cherry eye. When I ask about it they say they can do another surgery and immediately told me itll be another 1000-2000 for it. They just keep trying to get money out of you and I believe they did something to my animals eye that made it so I had to come back and get another surgery. Its worth the drive to go somewhere else.
I have been going to AEI for about two years and there has been significant improvement in the eye health of our 17+ year old shiz zue. Dr. Haeussler and staff have done a wonderful job and I would highly recommend their services to any pet owner with eye issues. Original vet was going to remove eye but the course of therapy applied by AEI saved that procedure and quite possibly our pups life. Will continue to go here until our dog passes on. Well done and many thanks. MP
After our 12 yr old lost his sight on Christmas Eve we were referred to this clinic and each and every staff member was absolutely caring and concerned and did everything they could to try and help with restoring his vision, unfortunately we were not able too but they were able to treat him for necessary complications and also educate us for the care and guidance we will need in providing a life for him now and they have been amazing will following up on him , I will recommend them to anyone I come across that would need their services A1 care above excellence
Ms. McGlothin, as previously stated on many other sites you have left us a negative review, you signed off on all procedures that were performed (your mother did as well). Mozarts eyes were corrected in the medically appropriate manner as would be corrected by any board-certified ophthalmologist and it was all explained to you prior to the procedure (and you agreed). You continue to be aggressive to our staff via communications and that is no longer acceptable as my staff is caring, kind-hearted, and here only for the well being of animals.
Took my dog Toby there 4weeks ago to have cataract surgery they did agreat job my dog can see again his attitude has changed and hes back to his old self thank you Drs and staff for giving him the gift of sight again Toby and me cant thank you enough for the job you did

2022-07-26Highly recommend this place to anyone who may need eye care for their animals. I took my fur baby to the vet thinking she had pink eye and little did I know, what I thought was pink eye was a fairly big ulcer in her eye. Animal Eye Institute was able to get me in first thing the following week (it was a holiday weekend). They were VERY good to my fur baby especially considering the pain she was in. The staff was amazing. The Dr explained the issue very well and I understood everything that was going on. She did need surgery to close the hole in her eye however I would do it all over again if I needed to, the money was well with it. They did the surgery that same day and she was back home that evening before 8pm. The Dr assured me he would take good care of my Sasha and he did just that. She is doing so much better and I cant thank them enough for everything they have done for her. I had no idea these types of doctors existed until this and I am so glad that they do.

2022-08-15The wonderful staff treated my sweet Buster Boy so well. They did a head CT and got the results to our vet asap. The cost is so much better than other places that offer this kind of testing. Our vet referred us to them because she knows I only want the best for my Buster. The best is what we got!
