The best Chinese restaurant in CLE for my money. Great selection of both authentic and American style Chinese food. The prices are reasonable and portions large. The wait staffs first language is not English so communication is a little difficult but they are always friendly. My personal favorite is the Tian Fu chicken, crispy little pieces of fried spicy chicken, delicious!
Was looking for a good place for my lunch takeout. Called them to place the order, they asked me to pick it up within 10 mins. So far so good. I went to the place, its inside Asian Plaza with more than 1 restaurant & store, I tried to find the restaurant but couldnt. At that time I called the restaurant and asked for directions informing I was Infront of Li Wan (another restaurant inside the plaza, which was full), the person received the call was pretty rude, at the end off the call she said clearly you are at the wrong place, you dont have to come and hung up on me!!!!!!!This was really insulting, but as I already placed the order I didnt want to be like those people who place an order and never show up. So I asked one of the shop owner/assistant near by for direction and found the restaurant with his help. Inside the restaurant there was no other customer except for a couple. I picked my order and came back, didnt feel like talking to such people who treat their customers badly. Now about the food, I ordered Chicken with garlic sauce, what I received you can see in the picture. If I was looking for that many vegetable in my dish I would have ordered Chicken with mixed vegetables. Crab Rangoon was okey, though I had better.Overall the experience ruined my mood and lunch time. I am not going back.
My wife and I stumbled upon this place entirely by accident, and what a happy accident it turned out to be. The menu was a mix of traditional American Chinese food and some lesser known dishes. We tried the baby bok choy, a pork belly dish, and the steamed dumplings, and it was the most delicious Chinese meal weve had in downtown Cleveland. The staff was also very friendly.
The food is always pretty good here, however everytime I or my friends pick up, the Townes/waitress is extremely rude. Most recently, the app I used wasn’t working so she didn’t have the food ready. I was being very understanding about it, but she kept telling me how busy it was right now and acting like it was my fault I even ordered in the first place. She demanded I tell her the menu number of the items I ordered because she did not know the name of the dish. It took me time to find the number on my phone and she was very impatient and grabbed the phone out of my hand.
Definitely American-influenced Japanese-esque Chinese food. If thats what you want, then its great, but I was hoping for something more authentic in the heart of this plaza.A few generally bad points: the entree came before the appetizer, our server said she would box our food and then only did half of it and then asked if we wanted the other half done, and we had to ask for soy sauce for things that ALWAYS come with soy sauce, like sushi and sashimi. The Sashimi Bento I ordered was supposed to come with fresh fruit, soup, rice, and a California roll. There was no soup, no fruit, and fried rice instead of white. I was never told that there would be deletions and alterations to the set, I was just served a box.It isnt bad, and some people may have seen it as an upgrade. However, it is not what I was expecting, not what I paid for, and it is rude to not inform your customers of menu changes.
The attitude of the owner is really bad. Today I order a meat dish and a veggie dish for pick up. When arrived there she gave my bf a receipt showing the correct dishes. But when we got home and opened the boxes the meat dish was substituted with a tofu of the same style. We called to let her deliver the meat dish to our place and she refused and hanged up my phone. She was willing to give back our money for the meat dish next time (not even right away and God knows if she will remember next time) but that was not what I wanted and her attitude was just bad. She was playing passive aggressive. She was treating us very lightly and she even laughed. She made me feel like it was my fault that I didn’t drive back to get the correct dish. Excuse me?? I have done my part right. I ordered the correct dishes, drove to the restaurant, and picked up the dishes. Why would I drive another 40min back and forth to pick up again because of your fault? She wasn’t even sorry and she didn’t say sorry at all. Now I am starved and am forced to become vegetarian for one day. Her attitude just ruined my precious Sunday! I will NEVER order at this place again.
Ordered takeout today and it was definitely worth it. Placed an order at around 5 oclock and arrivred to Szechuan Cafe about 15 minutes after placing the order. The food was ready to go and hot. I ordered the general tsos tofu while my girlfriend ordered the general tsos chicken. Both our orders were delicious and would definitely order again. We both opted to get the fried rice instead of the white, which proved to be an excellent decision. The portion sizes were quite large, allowing us enough left overs to have another full meal for lunch tomorrow. We definitely recommend Szechuan Cafe and wilp be back again.
I love coming to this cafe. Its very peaceful and the staff are attentive. My significant other and I ate here two days in a row and the ladies remembered us and greeted us very warmly. The food was delicious! My S.O. enjoys very spicy food and both times his dishes were prepared to his liking. Will definitely eat here again and recommend the location to friends and family
The best Asian food Ive ever had. I dont say this lightly. I spent years in San Francisco and Chinatown there has some of the best. And have visited most of the major cities in the US. Every dish we tried here is the best weve ever had.Went two weeks ago, and came back again today -- almost just to make sure. We ordered several dishes this time. Each of them excellent, each of them the best in class! And now we have plenty of leftovers too. This isnt only the best Asian fare in Cleveland, its now our favorite restaurant period.
I landed on this spot after driving around for a bit. I realized dine-in was unavailable, so I ordered over the phone. The lady was so sweet and helpful with ordering. Her suggestion of the Hunan Beef was a winner and the flavors were great! She even called me when my food was ready because she knew I was waiting in my car. I will definitely go back again and try other dishes.
This is kind of a new restaurant that had been something else before and located in the Park to Shop/Asian Plaza complex. This restaurant is a gem for Chinese cuisine, particularly Szechuan style, in Cleveland. I had tried several dishes from this restaurant and they are all very good. No holding back on the ingredients used. Recently, I tried their Fried fish hot pot and have to say, this dish is excellent. It is one of the best hot pot soup base that I had tried. The service here is great too, very friendly servers.
Not impressed with the food. Ordered wonton soup but they said they didnt have it and had the wonton in chili oil instead. We didnt taste any chili oil in the soup but it was over powered by sesame oil and sesame seeds. Chicken and Vegetables has way too much vinegar in the sauce. Orange chicken is mostly breading. Jasmine tea was good and service was good. Place was clean and nicely decorated. Probably wont be back.
If I could have given this location zero stars, I would. I wouldn’t even be able to give anyone a rating of their food because of how rude the one waitress was being to me. A friend and I walked into the restaurant, wanting to see a menu before we decided to sit down and order. There was clearly a stack. A STACK. Of menus, on the counter we were standing next to. We simply asked if we could see a menu, the woman had the nerve to say that they didn’t have any menus. Not only did she have the nerve to lie to us, she felt that it was necessary to look the both of us up and down with a disgusted look on her face. I admit we look a little rough. We’re college students who had backpacks so I understand why she would think oddly of us. But it was so unprofessional. Extremely unprofessional. Not only unprofessional, but also uncalled for. So if you’re looking for a place with amazing service, this place is not at all recommended. As for the food, I can’t say. I didn’t even get a chance to try it.
Won Ton Soup was cold and salty and did t come in chili oil as on menu. My orange chicken or should I say crispy pepper breading was terrible. The shrimpless egg role was bland and tasteless. Service with a smile was no where to be found! Oh and the hot mustard was not even hot to per up my meal. Never going back. Cant believe anyone gave them a good rating. My wife had Chicken with vegetables and she said the sauce was odd tasting with a distinct vinegar presence. You have been warned!
Why did you mess up the egg rolls? Also, what was up with those wontons? The eggplant with garlic sauce was good, Ill give these guys that. Why was the silverware greasy? And, Im sorry, but these guys messed up the drinks too. There was some unidentifiable substance on my brothers glass of lemonade, not to mention the lemonade tasted funny. Even the water tasted funny. The service was good, and we got our food fast, but please step up your game. Actually, only serve the eggplant.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I have never been treated so poorly in all my life. I took my daughter there. Im on a fixed budget, and all I wanted was egg rolls. We ordered 5, and a wonton for my daughter. As soon as the horrible woman took our order, she shot me a glare and started speaking angrily in Chinese. She stood like a warden with her arms crossed glaring at me while we ate. I noticed the workers in the back peeking out from behind the wall, looking at me and laughing. It was horrible. Then when paying my bill, the woman had the audacity to point out that I didnt tip. I shouldnt have at all, and just wrote Jesus saves on the receipt. From now on, my daughter and I are going to go to the Chinese market and buy a bunch of stuff from there to munch on.
I never liked Chinese food and I was trying to stay away out of as much as possible.A friend took me there and the food was amazingly good.If you are Ok with the fish smell and you are willing to try new food, .this place is great and inexpensive! The smell of the fish comes from the grocery store next door.
The restaurant is very nice looking, but the service was kind of slow, and the staff were just not friendly. Also the sushi I got was very warm, and the fish that was in it was chewy and fleshy, in a very bad way. I was worried I would get sick. Last, the spring roll was good, but it was very hard to get through. The rice paper was tough and over cooked.
Best Szechuan Food in town, probably in Unite States. I have been to New Yorks Chinatown many times. The Szechuan Food here is as good as those in New Yorks Chinatown. I saw some people complain about Sushi. Well, why do you go to a Szechuan food place for sushi. You should try their Szechuan food. Szechuan food is famous for spicy, you can ask them make it less spicy if you can not take it. Be adventures, try something new and ask for suggestion from sever, you will not be disappointed.
Szechuan Cafe is the real deal. This is NOT an American-Chinese eatery, slanted to supply American pallets with a splash of Asian exotism. If you want that, First Wok 21051 Euclid Avenue is the best I know in the Cleveland area, about which Ive written a review. (And I wouldnt lift my texting finger to identify that Panda place as having any connection to food or China.)If you consider either of those hard-core Asian, then Szechuan Cafe will is out of your league. They are not stooping down to elevate plebian taste buds, nor are they dulling down the flavor, spice, and methods of preparation that hundreds of years of knowledge comes with Chinese cooking. Szechuan Cafe is the real deal. Come with an educated pallet, ready for a throw down!Im a vegetarian, whatever that means these days; I mean that I dont eat meat. So I ordered Ma Po Tofu. Everywhere else that I have had this, my favorite tofu dish, it has been off. Too much szechuan peppercorn ruined the required subtle combination of flavors. The Szechuan Cafe hit this ball right out of the park and broke out a few windows in the process. Even the green onions were tender and loaded with the dishs signature flavor. I cant say it enough: Szechuan Cafe is the real deal. Come, ready to taste China, right here in Cleveland.
This place doesnt seem to concentrate on any one type of asian cuisine and may be trying to do too much. They try to go into Thai food and then Chinese, and never really focus on any one type of food in general. They do have some decent chicken entrees which you can check out and I have not tried everything on the menu.
Passing through Cleveland on May 12, I went to this restaurant to buy takeout because I had to hurry. The waiter heard that it was takeout and was very cold. After the order was placed, I asked her if she could use the toilet, and she categorically said that the toilet was broken. When I got the post-meal check, there were no paper plates, napkins, soy sauce packets and lucky fruits. This is the most unfriendly restaurant I have ever seen and will never go to this restaurant again.

2022-05-22The pandemic years have brought so many changes to our once favorite restaurants. Some, we have loved for years have closed, or may no longer seem appealing as if all the favored chefs have departed and nothing tastes quite the same.It was therefore a welcome treat to stop at Szechuan Cafe for take out. It had been a number of years since I had had any food from this restaurant and I had no idea how much I would like it. I ordered a shrimp egg roll, and Szechuan beef for myself; and shrimp fried rice for my granddaughter. The food was moderately priced. The portions were fair sized. The food was excellent! My Szechuan beef was filled with beef strips and flavorful sauce. My granddaughter loved her rice which had a lot of shrimp in it and was fried well. My trip to Szechuan Cafe was not planned, but I will definitely be back again soon!

2022-04-14This was such an unexpected delight! We walked in to an empty restaurant and received the best General Tsos Ive ever had. Crispy and glazed to perfection; we split an already reasonably priced meal and had plenty left over. Fried dumplings were also a win. Great, personable service and excellent food. Will definitely be back again.

2021-12-18Ive order here a few times, but the last two times its been over cooked food and flavors Im clueless about. I order very ordinary things, veggie egg rolls and orange/general tso/ hunan chicken and its off!!!! I ordered orange chicken today and it taste like soy sauce and chicken😡 I called, and just like many of these food places where English isnt a well spoken language, they tried to act like they didnt understand and it was how it was supposed to be. NO SOLUTION WHAT SO EVER! I wont be going back.

2022-05-05I think they took advantage of our 1st hotpot experience. I asked for bok choy 2x and she brought out dry chinese lettuce, the meat wasnt what we requested and they kept staring at us. Ill try this somewhere else but I spent a pretty penny and left a nice tip but the experience was less than.

2021-06-21I have been going here for years; glad that they now allow indoor seating again. My favorite: the ma po tofu. The atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, and the food is excellent. To my untrained palate, this seems like the real thing; if I ever visit Sichuan, I will have had a foretaste of it here.

2022-01-16I love the food here. It is tasty. I got the house special lo mein and loved it. It had a little spice to it (very very very little spice) which added a nice depth of flavor to it that was very unexpected and delicious. I have also had the fried rice and found it equally tasty. This is a great go to if you want some very tasty food.

2019-08-06Pretty authentic Szechuan place. The portions are generous and most of the dishes taste really good. Will recommend if you are just passing town and craving for some spicy Chinese food. Not expensive either.

2017-10-02Hands down some of the best Chinese I’ve ever had. Wow. I thought I was kidnapped by Guy Fieri because we ended up in flavor town. The complex flavors of these seemingly simple dishes was amazing. Egg with tomato...sounds simple but do yourself a favor and order it. The cold lung appetizer sounds off putting but it’s really good. The duck with chili and peppers (7 step duck?) was one of the best duck dishes I’ve ever had. If it’s empty when you show up don’t worry. We were the only table on a Sunday and they still crushed it. They are plenty busy with takeout orders so it’s not like people aren’t back there cooking. Big thanks to my buddy for showing me this place.
