Great place. They have awesome ambience. When you walk in theres a giant fish tank with a huge fish thats very fun to watch. They also have a large banquet area that can host up around 50 people maybe a little more. Apparently this is one of the few places that has dim sum as well. Havent had the dim sum but would love to come back and try it sometime.
My last three orders have been inaccurate and missing items. I was told by Danny I can stop in for a free meal- which sweet- hut misses the point. Get the order correct the first time and don’t charge me for delivery. In addition what was delivered was slimy, oily, and not good. I miss the quality this restaurant used to have.
Although many people rave about this restaurant, I have never understood the hype. There are many Asian restaurants nearby that have entrees that are much more flavorful, and better. I have always found the Sunflower’s food to be very bland and flavorless; and the soups and sauces have a heavy cornstarch texture. But, some people prefer bland, flavorless food… to each their own.
Good menu but prices are bit high for signature dishes. Staff should be friendly but the man in the restaurant works highly hard and does good follow up on the visitors. Neat and clean but the placing of tables and chairs is closer to one another, should place with little distance.
Not a huge fan of the dim sum (portions are small and pricey), but love the lunch specials. We got a Buddhist delight and Szechuan eggplant with brown rice and hot and sour soup, all for $13 after tax and before tip. The portions were large and the food pretty tasty. The Szechuan eggplant was rich and flavorful--would highly recommend. The soup was good, but a little too acidic. Overall, would highly recommend the lunch specials.
Terrible food quality. Ordered sweet and sour pork and it was cold, looked like chicken tenders and had zero flavor. The rice was hard as if it was not made fully. I also ordered dumplings and the sauce was a small cup of onions with some watered down sauce. It was so bad. I should have listened to the reviews on grubhub. Ended up tossing the food.
Ordered $80.00 worth. The egg rolls tasted old, shrimp broccoli was extremely thick and mushy and the Generals chicken was overcooked. I believe we may have been served weekend leftovers. I normally would not post such a negative review, especially after recovering from a pandemic, however I had to discard a very expensive order. Needless to say I will be sticking with Hunan Lion.
The front desk service was terrible. The guy was giving us attitudes while refusing to answer any questions. He acts patient and nice to people who speak English or Cantonese, but when it comes to Mandarin it’s a completely different story. If you are a Chinese and looking for authentic food with good service, STAY AWAY.
This rating is for the take out specifically. Ive had Sunflowers dim sum twice and that was great, so we decided to try the Americanized take out. I spent $40- braised tofu, honey chicken, bbq pork fried rice and egg rolls (though we were given spring rolls with the tiny grow it yourself shrimp-gross). It was all so disappointing. We do not take wasting food lightly in my household, and this went in the trash.
I place an order via the telephone. Went to pick my order up. There was a guy in front of me and I politely waited behind him. During that time another gentle walked in and started rampaging through orders. Once the employee handed the first gentleman his food the employee went straight to the guy behind me. I politely said that I was next in line. The employee said are you Grub Hub, I said no, but I’m next in line. He ignored me and continued to helped the guy behind me. I waited for about 5 minutes while they sorted out the many orders he had. I eventually just walked out without any food. Poor service. I’ll never go back there if you’re treated that way. If I could give less than 1 star I would.
As soon as you walk in you are struck by the the vibrant red and gold colors. Bright and inviting atmosphere. I was greeted by a elderly gentleman who kindly took my order to go. I ordered Mongolian beef minus onions and added carrots and broccoli. It was no problem modifying the order which I greatly appreciated. It turned out to be delicious. Also tried the Crab Rangoon, very generous portions. I also ordered pan fried pot stickers which were delicious. Will definitely visit again.
Used to be the best Chinese joint in Columbus, but the last few years the food quality has decreased significantly. The taste of the food is getting worse as time goes on. At this point, everything weve ordered for the past few visits, dine in and takeout, have all tasted fishy. Every single dish. Kung pao chicken tastes and smells like fish. Won ton soup tastes and smells like fish. Egg rolls taste like fish. General Tsos tastes like fish. It used to be absolutely delicious. Now its just rank.Embarrassing to have family come to town to visit and ask to go back to Sunflower, because it used to be so good it was one of the reasons they came to visit. The food smelled bad and tasted bad and we had to eat egg sandwiches at home because the fishy taste of all the Sunflower dishes; they couldnt finish it.Super disappointing, too, because I live just down the road and used to eat there pretty frequently.Get rid of the funky taste, Sunflower, and bring back the delicious high-quality food you served years ago.
My friend really hyped up the dim sum, but I found it to be pretty disappointing. The food was all room temp or colder, most of the dishes were bland, and almost every dish was mushy or slimy. The servers were also unable to tell us which dish was which, so we had no idea what we were eating, which was very difficult for the vegetarian in our group. The detailed atmosphere was lovely, and the regular dining experience may be better, but I wouldnt go back for dim sum.
Not impressed. Nice place, quiet and good for a date night but our chicken plates were undercooked.Pad Thai had no flavor. Sauce on the sesame chicken wasnt very flavorful as well. The staff was very friendly and attentive, no problems with service but we could had gone to our usual spot (China Way Worthington Mall) and saved 20-25% and had better food.
If you have no dietary restrictions (and no fear), the dim sum experience here is excellent. Go. Its a tasty adventure every time. With dietary restriction in our group, rough communication and unintentional misinformation had us with at least two dim sum orders that only 2 in the group could eat (and theyd already ordered several that only they could eat), but once the need was successfully communicated, the staff unbelievably quickly provided a gluten-free dish (using gluten-free soy sauce, no less) and was nice.
We ordered for delivery. They prepared and delivered our food so quickly. Everything, aside from the fried shrimp being slightly soggy (which was our gamble ordering it for delivery), was delicious. Were hoping that we can order the spice level to our taste the next time, because the seasoning and spice needed slight adjustments. But, honestly, for ordering at 9 pm on a Tuesday, we were delivered a well prepared meal with proper meat doneness and textural interest in the vegetables. Good work :)
Delivery on Grub Hub was fast. But the food suuuucks!!! The Hong Kong spicy pepper beef has absolutly no flavor, is more than bland and not spicy at all!!! Sesame chicken had a funky taste like plastic and was very bland. Fried rice wasnt even fried rice. It was just white rice with some weird flavoring. Yuck! Ill never order here again
I favorite weekly haunt for the family. Weve been coming here for Dim Sum for many years and have never walked out hungry. Its also great for dinner. If youve never experienced Dim Sum with the rolling carts of yummy goodness you havent truly lived. I recommend coming with the whole family or a group of foodie friends.
Sunflower is a frequent go-to place of ours. Friendly service and delicious food make it a favorite!Hubby loves the stuffed eggplant. I usually order some kind of a combo dish - triple delight or something similar. Very dependable and consistently good food, with ample quantities for leftovers!
The menu has some good and bad food, as a regular customer I will receive both every time I try something new. Giving a four star for the variety of Canton dishes, good service, and the behavior of them actually cancelling your order when you don’t like the food(even after you already have had some of it)
Has very authentic Chinese if you want it.The dim sum Sundays are heavenly and very fattening. Also very worth it!! Probably the best dim sum Ive ever had.Selections will change from week to week and dont be afraid to be somewhat aggressive when the carts of dim sum come around or you will go hungry!
We want to Dim Sum and it was delicious. However, we were seated in the back room and it took a while for carts to come through, and only had the steam cart come by once. We would also have like to have had beverage refills, and ordered tea. Food was delicious, service was mediocre, in the back room.
After being seated in a room that felt like a closet, we just stared at each other for a moment in a very uncomfortable state. As we were seated we quickly realized there was a strait up party going on in the room to our right ( which is the lounge area Im assuming) Im talking walls vibrating , speakers screeching, and other people in the dining area commenting and asking the very same questions I found my partner and I conversating about. Appetizers came out quickly, very flavorless, and for the first time at any Chinese restaurant I was only served a single egg roll as my appetizer. The lo main was the worst Ive ever experienced. The sweet and sour chicken had no authentic flavor whatsoever. Orange chicken tasted like rancid oil. Very disappointing start to a good night out. Would never recomend this place to anyone.
I went here with friends for dim sum. It pales in comparison to previous experiences on the West Coast...while the food was OK, there wasnt a large variety of selection available, the carts came by infrequently, and the food was not as hot as my companions and I are used to expecting with dim sum. The restaurant has a nice interior, but service and food quality have lots of room for improvement.
I used to go to Dim Sum to this restaurant a few years ago and it was always my favorite restaurant. I stopped going for a while and I heard that the quality of the food and the service were not the same. Im happy to inform that my sources were wrong. I recently went back and their food is as good as it was, the service was even better. We didnt have to chase our server once, and it was a very busy day. Im glad that I decided to try again for myself.
Of course, thus is my favorite Chinese restaurant.* The food is always good.* The service is fantastic.* The portions are much larger than you would expect for the price.* The prices are very, very reasonable. It is a formal white-tablecloth quality restaurant, but the prices are much better than other restaurants in that quality level.
We always get take out here. The food at this restaurant is really good, but dealing with the people who take the order over the phone is a challenge. There are two different men that are some of the most rude and unfriendly people that I have ever dealt with in a restaurant that dont smile or appreciate your business at all. Also dont ask them for anything extra as they will reluctantly go and get it for you but act like they are moving a mountain for you and that they are going so far out of their way to get it! This experience is one that happens to me every time I go there and one that I always dread.
Sunflower has always been an excellent source of great Chinese food and low-key relaxing atmosphere. My wife had the moo goo guy pan, I had the braised bean curd with vegetables. The braised bean curd was so well seasoned I did not use a drop of soy sauce with my meal. My wife reported her dish was also done perfectly.
We came in on a Saturday around 1pm. Not sure if we missed the rush when they were bringing out more items but the selection seemed limited and as if it had been sitting out for a while. The servers also at times seemed a little annoyed that they had to explain the items that they did have. Disappointing dim sum- could be so much better. Also, there were plenty of seats in the main dining room but we were ushered in the back room with one other couple- felt very unwelcoming.
Very extensive menu; definitely an authentic Chinese restaurant and not an American Chinese as most are. This was a birthday party of 9. Service was very prompt and cordial. Servings were large. Roast duck was very good although the sking could have been a bit crispier. However many of the other servings tasted very bland, especially Egg Foo Yung and the Mongolian Trio.
I searched for a good authentic chines restaurant in Columbus. This restaurant seems to fit the bill. I brought friends to dinner at the end of June 2012 expecting a good experience and received the exact opposite. The air conditioning was broken, so the restaurant was uncomfortable. The menu look very good, they even had a special menu with several authentic chinese dishes. The service was slow, the food was mediocre, and as it turned out, everyone in my party became a little sick a few hours after eating at this restaurant. We had ordered a few extra dishes to have left-overs, but we had to throw it all away. Its unfortunate that this restaurant seems to have all the elements of a good restaurant, but fails miserably.
Absolutely the worst Chinese food Ive ever gotten! it was hot and fresh, but just tasted awful. Tomatoes in Sweet and Sour Chicken, No brown sauce (clear garlic sauce) in Chicken and Broccoli, and Crab Rangoon was so hard fried it was tasteless. Will never order again
The quality of the dim sum at Sunflower is very high. Everything we have tasted so far has been fresh and full of flavor. Another very encouraging thing is that we are often one of a handful of non ethnic patrons. If you have never done dim sum I suggest watching Mike Chen on youtube for pointers and etiquette.
My husband and I come for the dim sum saturday and sunday mornings. It is the best. You can get in and out in about 30 minutes with two people if you are ambitious enough. They use the carts here, and they make their trip around very quickly. There are typically 4-6 cart types that circle around. If you do not see the cart you want, you can tell them and they will swiftly bring the cart around to you.The tea is also really finely made and an excellent compliment to the meal. Do not forget to order some!We have hosted ou friend from Boston and he loves it. We always make a trip here with him too whenever he comes to visit. The servers are incredibly attentive, great on drink refills, and really the food is AMAZING. I wish I could give it 10 stars. Thank you!
I have lived in Florida for 24 years now. I grew up with this restaurant, in high school we lived off this restaurant, and now I come back up 6 times a year and I still love this restaurant! This is and always will be my favorite place, not just Chinese, my favorite restaurant EVER! Thank you Sunflower for never changing after 30 years!
This place used to be amazing, but the last four times Ive tried Ive returned the food and asked for a refund. The problem is simple, the oil they are using tastes like fish! I dont want chicken that tastes like fish. I dont want egg-rolls that taste like fish. Just change your oil already!! You used to be so delicious. Delicious enough that I would bring family from out of town - but you have greatly disappointed!
Anybody who is in the know knows that this is the place for the most authentic Chinese you can find in Columbus. Expect shoddy decor, less-than-steller restrooms, not so polished wait staff... And amazing food quality! But please, eat off the beaten path. This is your opportunity to try something new and unusual to you. Open your mind, be respectful of cultural differences, and prepare to thoroughly enjoy your meal!
Came on a sunday afternoon for lunch and we were escorted to the back room since they were preparing the main dining area for a special event. They had dim sum carts coming around initially, then suddenly they stopped coming around. We waited almost 15-20 minutes until I heard a server tell a table next to us the carts werent coming around anymore. With that, I left a $0 tip. They were more focused on setting up for this event instead of serving their existing patrons. The dim sum is ok, just what you would expect. Its a bit pricey to my liking though.
There was hair in the food and we order something that has to be ordered beforehand and we waited for like 25 minutes and we asked the worker and she said “nobody made it we closed the station to make it”. Then we asked for another food item and they said “we don’t have anymore”. Barely anything was being served and the sauce was basically like water it had no taste at all. Definitely won’t recommend this place.
I hardly ever review restaurants but I had to say something about this being one of the worst Chinese food experiences of my life. I ordered through SkipTheDishes (which Ill never use again- my food was open!) But the szechuan tofu has no szechuan peppers, its loaded with jalepenos. How lazy! The food was cold, my friends lo mein tasted weird and she barely ate anything. Will never eat here again.
Im not sure what happened the day we were there, Ive seen a lot of 5 star reviews but did not have a 5 star experience. We went there on a Sunday, and apparently there was a party going on in the secondary room. I really dont need comfort or style to enjoy my meal - now this place is beautiful (in the party room), but it was a little cramped in the regular dining area. The rooms were separated by sliding doors, which were still open enough for me to see into the party. No big deal, but it was mildly distracting. It ultimately became the least of my issues with the entire experience.Apparently the speakers in the building are all connected, meaning anything that happened into the mic in the party room was very clear to the regular diners. This was actually pretty hilarious, as my SO and I (and some other patrons that I made eye contact with) were occasionally pretty startled by the loud tapping noises and HELLOs that we were now an audience to - making us drop a utensil or jump and spill a drink. Now - heres the thing. None of this would matter had the food actually been good. I love authentic Chinese and I have been on the hunt for an authentic place. The reviews I had read led me here, and I was very pleased that they also had Dim Sum. I understand the difference between Americanized and authentic Cantonese food, and I was ready for the real deal. I ordered an eggplant and pork dish, while my SO ordered kungpao shrimp. My dish was just this base sweet flavor. There was no difference between the taste of the pork, the eggplant, and whatever else was in the dish. It just tasted of cloying sweet sauce (and was apparently overdone, as per my SO who works in the culinary field). My not-so-picky palate was okay with his kungpao shrimp, but holy water chestnuts! I have never seen so many in a dish - it shouldve been kungpao chestnuts, featuring shrimp. There was no kick to it, and again...it all just tasted the same, no variation.I was going to at least take the shrimp home with me, but decided against it, because I did not want to extend our stay there, even just long enough to have it boxed up (which the staff did for you, normally very nice but could not salvage this). All in all, this was NOT what I had expected and I was very disappointed in my experience. Like I said, had the food been good, this whole situation wouldve been remedied. If I had to choose between here and Trash Panda Express, Id ask for some cheapo beef and broccoli from the Trash Panda. Maybe this was a bad day for them, but I personally will not be making a trip here again - the search for quality and authenticity continues.
Took a guest to the sunflower. So disappointing. The sweet and sour chicken was over cooked and tough. The sauce tasted like strawberries. The breaded chicken was swimming in the sauce. I ordered vegetable eggplant. Difficult to find the eggplant. Not sure what i was eating. Tremendous amount of oil. Will i go back. Have enjoyes the Sunflower for years.
Sunflower is one of the oldest Chinese Restaurants in the Columbus area. We went there on a Saturday for Dim Sum. At 11 am, it was not crowded, but it gets crowded closer to Noon. The Dim Sum is not very impressive or tasty as I remember the to be when they started the Dim Sum Service many years ago, I would rate it a C.
I got a lunch combo, the sweet and sour chicken. Its difficult to mess up, its just breaded and fried chicken with rice and sweet/sour sauce. The chicken was too dry to chew through and the sauce tasted like it was poured into a bowl straight out of a maraschino cherry container. Unsatisfied to say the least, but I was starving and had already spent too much time to go and pick it up on my lunch break from work, I had to eat it.
Worst lunch I have had in a long time! To make it even worse, the service was just as bad. I havent eaten there for a few years and remembered they used to have very good food. I drove out of my way to take my son there - we were both very disappointed. I will never return.
Terrible experience. Ate there a few times and the servers dont really pay attention to you or give you service and the food quality and quantity really has gone down quite a lot. They dont refill your water and the dragon dance was god awful in chinese new years. The family that was doing it were terrible disrupting food service.
The food is horrible. They gave me chicken and broccoli with white sauce. It was just water and corn starch mixed together. Soooo horrible. Seasame chicken wasnt much better but it was the better of both the dishes. I called the restaurant to complaint about the food. The man told me to call the online site I ordered the food by and not to disturb him. They are very rude and food is even worse!
The waitress, who couldn’t speak English well, was rude when I asked her if a soup was included with my lunch order. Her answer with a high tone of voice...”if you want soup, you can, it’s up to you!” I raised my voice and responded with “Geez...you are so rude!”.I waited a while for my lunch order because the restaurant was busy. It was On December 25, 2018 around 12:10 PM.One of the owners, the one that walks with a limp, walked by and I politely asked him to check for my lunch order since I could not find my rude waitreess. To my surprise, this was how he responded to me...”who is your waitress? I don’t know about your order because we are very busy, you see?” He just walked away after he said that.By observing how they treated their customers, they far more respected caucasian customers. There is no doubt in my mind.I will NEVER ever visit this restaurant again. If this is how they treat their non-caucasian customers.
Didnt get the order right my wife who is pregnant she said in the phone that the mao pao tofu not spicy but when i got home and opened the bag it was still made spicy. I am upset that something as simple as that cant be made right. You need to do your job right. This is the second time that they messed up a to go order from us and its ridiculous. Dont go here and go somewhere theres plenty of chinese restaurant around way better than this place.
Not a bad restaurant they could do a little better with interior but its fine. Also they have a party room on the side thats really good for having a birthday or something with about 50 people max. They dont make you pay for the room but just order their food and you can bring some stuff also. Not bad of a deal Id say!
Really disappointed on the food,my husband order Ed chicken wings, and weve never seen wings like this ever, they were cut up in weird looking prices, did not look like chicken at all. Also I order chicken lo mein and the chicken had a weird texture to it,we payed 35 for wings and lo mein, outrageous, will never ever eat there again. Very dissapointed. Mein moon,so much better.
My Kung Pao Chicken had zero flavor. It was essentially chicken, peanuts, and some veggies soaked in chicken broth with a couple chile peppers thrown in. It was absolutely disgusting. The other dishes we got were bland as well. They charge way too much for this barely-edible food. Service was poor, even by carryout Chinese standards. Its a real shame because this used to be one of the best places in Dublin to get Chinese. However, these last 2-3 years the quality has gotten worse and worse to the point of it almost being inedible now. They have lost my business for good.
I got the Sunflower Scallops and OMG they were Horrible! $16.00 down the drain. I cook Sea Scallops a lot and they are supposed to be sweet, however these tasted like rotten fish! I am not sure if they were sitting with fish and absorbed the flavor of the fish but I had to throw the whole container of food away!!!
Racist towards non-White AmericansToday marked the 2nd time with Sunflower where the order we placed online mysteriously didnt get to the restaurant. We placed the order online, got our email confirmation with the pick up time and went to the restaurant to get our food, as we have done many times in the past (successfully since 2010).The previous instance when they didnt have our order after we showed up, we waited patiently as we placed another order. No discount was offered, nor was there an apology.Today, when we showed up, we were told again, the website isnt working. HOWEVER, this time, another WHITE AMERICAN MAN showed up with a WEB ORDER and they had it ready for him. The older Chinese man lied to my husbands face and said the other persons order was submitted via fax. My husband asked him in front of the Chinese man and he said it a web order. We dont appreciate being lied to nor do we want to support a bigoted business.Sunflower Chinese Restaurant is RACIST, unless you are WHITE and AMERICAN.So were letting ALL our friends and family know that there are better, tastier and significantly less racist Chinese restaurants we can send spend our money at.
One problem is that their Szechuan style isn’t Szechuan. It’s like a spicy brown sauce, in color and taste. Then the random vegetables, like green peppers and onions, takes it somewhere else. I want good Szechuan 😭The other problem is food consistency. The food seems to be made differently when different cooks are working. That means sometimes the food is flavorful or it’s bland.I’m sure I’ll still order food from here a couple times a month, so I doubt my input is going to be acknowledged.

2022-01-24Dim sum awesomeness! I cannot figure out why this place was not slammed full of people. The food was fresh and delicious. Garlic ribs were supreme! Shumai, hot and sour soup, this place was just what we needed!

2022-06-19Just went there for Father’s Day and it was an amazing experience. The people treated us like royalty, very kind and attentive. We just asked the waitress to pick out dim sum for us and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend the BBQ pork buns and curry beef pasties. We ate more than we should have and the bill was still only $70 for three of us. An amazing experience all around.

2022-06-17This place is OK for dim sum in a pinch. The service was a bit crazy- several waitresses and waiters running up to our table, food didnt come out all together (which would have been fine, but we just figured they forgot our dishes). The bathroom floor was as slippery as a hockey rink (my 4 year old said look mom, Im ice skating. Not the traditional dim sum service.

2022-05-28This restaurant is going downhill. Order well over $100 dollar of food with 6 dishes. Duck Beansprout , and Roast Pork Pot TOO SALTY. The String Bean is NOT FRESH and HARD to chew. Talked to Waitress and chef, and they DO NOT CARE! Its all bunch of old workers that treat themselves as boss. When these bunch were younger 20 years ago, they were Attentive and food was the most authentic Hong Kong style in Columbus. NOT anymore. Stay away. More Expensive, and Worse Quality. Also, their Dim SUM is a JOKE too.

2021-11-21Shrimp and beef crepes-turnip cakes and char sui bai(bbq pork buns) - don tot(egg tarts) and turnip dumpling, also had some shrimp dumplings but forgot to get shot, was little chewy this time but normally ok, reason for 4 stars instead of 5 but normally good place for dim sum and heard theyll be open half day on Thanksgiving.

2022-04-11This is the best dim sum in columbus bar none. We have never even ventured off the dim sum menu. The family that runs this place deserves a key to the city for their integrity and hospitality. We are eagerly awaiting the return of cart service.

2022-04-24Seems to be a student favorite. Great bowls and hibachi. Fresh and not too salty. I wish they had some unsweetened tea, but the water was plentiful and free.

2022-06-24This is the first restaurant I have been to that serves dim sum and I fell in love immediately! The Salted Egg Buns and the Char Siu Bao (roasted pork bun) were awesome! I cant wait to revisit!
