Phenomenal and Creative! One thing is certain about Sueño... you just have to go and experience it for yourself. A true culinary experience, you can tell from each dish that there is passion and creativity driving behind the flavors led by a talented executive chef. We ordered a spread of shareable plates and drinks, capped off with a delectable Churro Cake. Food wise: Pollo Al la Leña which was fire! The Peri Peri sauce was packed with complex flavor and heat! The Tamale was a different take on a staple, which was light and refreshing with a creamy center. Taco de Cochinita was filled with juicy adobo pork, wrapped up in a scratch made tortilla. Finally, Esquites, which was a sponable eloté style dish, probably favorite of the small plates. Sueno was such an experience, any foodie need to try at least once. Let us not forget the beautiful interiors with upbeat music throughout. The space is transformative and there is nothing else like it in Dayton. Perfect date night or special celebration.
Ambiance was spectacular. The menu was curated to selected dishes and everything was phenomenal. The guacamole was the best I have ever had. Sopes with braised beef was fantastic tapas to get started. The meat was especially tender and perfectly seasoned. Main course was the signature dish Pollo a la Lena, a slow cooked chicken over a wood fire stove and it was immaculate. Tender and flavorful, fall off the bone delicious. My only complaint would be the cocktails. They were well mixed and interesting, but portion size was tiny. All in all a fantastic restaurant and the staff was great.
Are we in Dayton? We came after dinner somewhere else to explore the signature drinks. The fellow from bar rescue would be impressed. Also had delectable desserts. Cant wait to try the artisan dinner selections. Our mixologist, Modjeska (yes, I asked her how to spell her name), made the experience 5-stars. Very personable and helpful.
A beautiful restaurant with amazing quality food. High end, thoughtful, and artistic. Expect to spend more. This is not your usual “cheap” Mexican place. Highly recommend the pumpkin seed dip and carne asada! The cocktails are amazing too. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable of the menu items. He had great recommendations! Will definitely be back.
I’d heard nothing but rave reviews, and after finally having the opportunity to dine here, I understand why. A lot of the experience was fantastic (e.g. the spicy margarita, the ambiance, etc.), but there were other aspects that were rather disappointing. As many people have noted in their reviews, the price point is pretty high, which in and of itself is fine. However, the portions make for an unsatisfying experience. Our server — who was very nice and attentive — said entrees were designed for two people to share. My date and I decided to split an entree and order two sides (both a la carte), which amounted to roughly $75; needless to say, I left hungry, as the portions were what you’d expect for one person at most other restaurants.Additionally, we inquired about how hot some dishes were, as my date cannot eat overly spicy foods. Our server explained that the items we were discussing were not that spicy, so we took her advice. However, I love spicy food, and even I thought the food we were served had a lot of heat. My date noted it was well, but she ate it anyway because we were so hungry.I might give this place another shot, but I’m in no rush.
When I visited this restaurant I had extremely high hopes because I am Mexican and have been eating food from the culture since I was a child but this restaurant ended up disappointing. Which is a shame because the atmosphere was great, the place was beautiful and our waitress was great! The food is overpriced for the portion size. There is also a limited menu which I believe doesn’t even cater to authentic Mexican cuisine. In my opinion, you should save your money and go support a local mexican restaurant instead!
Its really just overpriced Mexican food.Tips: reserve early; ask for a table away from the drafty front; check the electronic receipt closely—our waiter had the 25% tip box checked by default; try Taquitos Urupan #2 on North Dixie if you want authentic Mexican flavors at 10% the cost (unpaid advert, but we grew up in the southwest and their tacos are the best we’ve ever had—in Dayton!!)After trying several times to get a reservation at this packed place, we committed over two weeks early and got in for our anniversary. Cocktails were interesting. Atmosphere was fun and charged but a bit loud. Food was very good but very overpriced. The shishito peppers were excellent but use caution on the lighter colored ones as they’re much spicier—and that’s coming from a Texan. Carne asada good but $40 for 6-ish ounces of skirt steak. Guacamole good but $11 for a quarter to half a cup. Red Chile pozole very flavorful and worth the $18. Glad we went, but it’s probably our only visit.
Amazing! Service was fantastic, cocktails were delicious and creative, and the food. Holy moly. Our group tried some of nearly everything, and there was not a single thing any of us would not order again.GuacamolePork tacosEnchiladasPosoleRibs (I want to marry these)ChickenBranzino (both the fish fans and avoiders loved it)CarrotsPotatoesSquashI only wish any of us had room for dessert, since they all looked like winners.
Sueño is spectacular! The food, cocktails, and wines were all consistently outstanding across the spectrum. Our server Alton was awesome. The restaurant’s sommelier and gm, Lauren Gay, was radiant, insightful, and charming. A wonderful experience and we’re definitely comin back baby 🌮
D3n’s review was spot on. The atmosphere and service were great. The drinks and food were good. For the price, I was expecting something mind blowing. We had the guacamole, which was amazing. Then we had sweet potato tacos, Barbecoa tacos, and the pork enchiladas. The sweet potato tacos did have a unique flavor and I really enjoyed them. The Barbecoa tacos and the pork enchiladas were good, but nothing special. For drinks, I had a michalada (spelling?) style beer. It was good but I wouldn’t pay the money for it again. My wife had one of the non alcoholic drinks. It was also good but overpriced. In the end, we’ll definitely go back and try out other food options but I doubt I’ll pay the extra money for anything on the drink menu.
Service was great, pumpkin dip was tasty, everything else was poor. Almost tasted like liquid smoke was used on everything and accidentally doubled in the recipes. Or possibly smoked paprika and/or chili pepper accidentally doubled in recipe. Just tasted acrid, bitter and badly smoked. Ribs also way fatty, gristly and cold. So bummed, the menu was sooo amazing looking with all the ingredients we love. Was happy to pay the high price but it just wasnt worth it. Food has to be delish at these prices. Hoping it was just a bad nite in the kitchen.
I have say, I have no complaints whatsoever!!! Went on a 1st date last night and the ambiance was immaculate!!!! Our server Renna… I feel like I said that wrong lol, was amazing!!! Gave us the run down on the menu in detail!!! We wanted to taste multiple things so we shared the Sikil P’ak, Papas Ahumadas, Pescado a la Plancha and Costillas!!! FLAVORHOUSE!!! The Ranch Water Cocktail I couldn’t get enough!!! 10’s across the board!!!!!
I’ll be honest- I was really excited to try this place based on social media chatter. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The overall “feel” of the dining experience is comparable to the Cheesecake Factory. Service was not great. Took forever to even get to our table for drink orders and it was not a busy Wednesday night. Loud open kitchen. The food was just a miss. We had chips and guac, a small starter dish, and the chicken. Flavor was maybe a 6/10. Small portions. Expensive for what it was. I was just disappointed. We’ll give it another shot once the menu rotates but not a great first impression. Definitely want to see them succeed!
Pretty cool place with nice atmosphere and a very handsome kitchen bar area. Sampled the guacamole, beets, birria meatballs, pork tacos, octopus tostada, and the And Your Mother, Too cocktail. Everything was delicious and interesting, but the beets blew me away (and I thought I hated beets). Cant wait to have a reason to go back. I am happy that Dayton has interesting restaurants like this one.
You get the quality that you pay for. And make reservations. If you have a love for the hot plate style Mexican places, Sueno probably isnt your cup of tea. Every time Ive been the service has been great with the staff always happy to explain what is what and how things come together on the plate. We love to get a bunch of the smaller plates and and graze through dinner with cocktails, and my favorite plates are the tacos and the albondigas, but everything weve had has been delicious.
Second time here. The decor, vibe, and music are great, good cocktails and service . Steak is super tough, like could choke on it, but good flavor, $48. Chicken is crazy spicy, but good if you like that stuff, nice crispy skin. Branzino too salty. Would come back for casual cocktails and the pumpkin seed dip. The Ensalada is delicious.
Best Mexican food in Dayton. I recommend they develop a menu with several easily orderable vegetarian versions (enchilada without pork, tostada without octopus, guac with vegetable oil, enfrijolada without duck fat). But regardless, they were very accommodating for vegetarians when we went there.
If youre into small portions at crazy prices, then this may be the place for you. The $33 chicken plate was literally 2 drumsticks and 2 tiny chicken breasts with sauce. After pulling the meat off of the bones of all 4 pieces it was 12 bites in total. I thought that maybe because it was so expensive that it would be 12 amazing bites. Unfortunately, it tasted like a Kroger rotisserie chicken with crispy skin with some spices. The sauce was good, but super spicy. With that being said, the place is beautiful. They did a great job designing and executing the restaurant. Id recommending checking out one of the other higher priced restaurants that Dayton has to offer. They all give meal sized portions and are much more delicious.
There were six of us and we all found it delightful. We ordered all of the specialty cocktails and then passed them around, we also ate family style so everyone could try everything Ryan was very knowledgeable and on it. We thought it was very reasonably priced considering all we had including the cocktails and the atmosphere was very cool! Definitely an experience and I would definitely recommend. Be sure to try the chocolate desert with the house made brittle. It was majical!
I wasnt sure what to expect. The food is served family style, just a dish or two at a time, so you are having a little bit of everything. My Dad, 89, said it best If Id been served everything on a plate at once I wouldnt have enjoyed the flavors as much, wouldnt have really tasted it.And you do want to really taste every bite. Im not a foodie so I dont have the words, just the flavors I cant wait to enjoy again.
Spacious and beautiful atmosphere, good but small plates, and not so great customer service in my experience. I made reservations and let them know ahead of time that it was for our anniversary. When we arrived, we were sat at a bar in front of the kitchen instead of a table. There was a 2 seat table open, and when we asked to move to that table because it was our anniversary and we were hoping to sit at a table, the server told us it was reserved. She was even a bit patronizing, telling us, we would come to really like this spot. We then asked to move to the bar, which was a bit more intimate than the spot they put us in initially. The drinks and food came out very quick (probably within a half hour). The food was good, but given this experience, its not good enough where I would go back. Also, no one ever sat at that open table that they said was reserved...
Parking was hassle...no viable close option other than forced valet.Menu is underwhelming and aiming for an obvious high bar.Tried a variety of small plates and wasnt completely disappointed, but not impressed... Especially with the price point....emphasis on the price point. A small plate of six fingerling potatoes was priced at $12.I wish this restaurant the best, but I do not plan on a return experience.
We had the most amazing dining experience! The food and cocktails were excellent, the ambience was warm and inviting, and the staff were pleasant, efficient and friendly! We couldn’t find a table through online reservation for our group of 4. But when I wrote to them, they accommodated us! Our friends from SFO were also very impressed with the whole experience!
I was so excited to eat at this new restaurant as I was very inspired by the menu and the reviews online. However, my experience was a major let down. The venue and ambiance of the restaurant are great... very modern and reminiscent of a restaurant in a major city. My sister and I sat at the bar and cannot complain about the service. The bartender was very attentive and promptly answered all of our questions. The letdown was really the food. We started with the mole dip and their homemade tortillas... the mole was very rich and complex in flavor, the tortillas were fresh and supple... definitely got us excited for what was to come. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. We had the salbutes and it was very bland and ultimately I just couldnt get over the cold chicken texture. Then we ordered the tostada and couldnt even finish it. There was barely any octopus on it... so it was mainly some vegetables and refried beans. The overall taste of the dish was muddled and just not appetizing. We then had the lamb meatballs and they were very dense and dry... the sauce they were served with was quite tasty. The only saving grace from our meal were the tacos de cochinita. If I ever go back I would just have those and maybe one of their cocktails. A lot of their plates are copied off the NYC Cosme menu (which I have visited and really enjoyed) but were not executed even close to the same level. I really appreciate what this group is trying to do for downtown Dayton and wish I could continue to support but this restaurant needs to step it up.
Delicious with no comparison in Dayton.Octopus Tostada. Amazing flavor, texture, and subtleties.Fish entree. Perfect texture, wonderful flavor.Roasted Beets. Wild surprise. Loved it. And yes your stuff will be dyed the next day.Pork tacos. Perfectly fine, Not my anchor entree.Sipped on Casamigos.Sat at the bar, staff was chic and knowledgeable, added to the wonderful ambiance.I’d like to sit at the kitchen bar next time we go.And the banos are swank too.
The food was Okay. Very small portions and very expensive. The restaurant is beautiful inside. Just not very impressed with the food. Got the carne asada. It was a great flank steak that was $48.00 dollars and didnt come with any sides. Dont mind paying more if the food is great, but $48.00 for a flank streak is just ridiculous. Especially for nothing else with it. The mole dip was horrible. The waitress recommended it to us. I had one bite and did not want anymore after that. The dip was very bitter. We had the lamb meatballs, also got a chicken dish They were just okay. There isnt much of a menu description of any of the food. overall was very disappointed with the restaurant. Spend $150.00 after tip and felt robbed.
Really beautifully done interior and the view of the kitchen and wood fire its fantastic. The food is interesting and delicious. Theres a lot of options, with plenty of vegan choices all the way through to unapologetically meaty dishes. In fact everyone at our table had different dietary requirements/preferences and they went out of their way to accommodate us. The service was excellent and our server was attentive without hovering too much. I lived in Europe for 12 years and this is the only place Ive ever been to in Dayton that felt like it could be in London or Madrid.Definitely order the guacamole and the frijolmole. The tortilla chips are the best Ive ever had. The lamb albondigas took me straight back to Andalucia! I especially enjoyed the octopus tostada. The menu is overwhelming with so many beautiful dishes to choose from. I cant wait to go back and try all the other things I didnt have room to try!Dayton needs more places like Sueno to counter the boring, unimaginative, and overpriced artifacts like The Paragon or the Pine Club. This is our new special occasion destination. Or just a midweek treat :)
Excellent food, great atmosphere, and top notch service. Took my wife here for her birthday. We had the carne asada hearth, ensalada and guacamole for a starter. The guac portion was pretty small for the price, but was very tasty. The seasong on the chips was great. Carne asada was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beans and chimichurri were also tasty. My only gripe was having to cut the meat ourselves. Just seems strange to pay so much for food and also have to work for it. Ensalada was also tasty, but again, it shouldve came cut up already like an actual salad. Not a big deal, but again I dont want to work hard to eat my already expensive food. Lastly I had an Oaxaca Old Fashioned which was essentially half of a drink with tons of ice, but it was good nonetheless. Al was an awesome server.
I was lucky enough to enjoy the opening night at Sueno, and I sure was not disappointed! The meal was perfect, and the service was right on point. We started with the Sikil Pak (pumpkin seed dip). The flavor was like nothing I have ever experienced! Spiced and seasoned perfectly with homemade corn chips that were to die for! The drinks were absolutely perfect made with fresh juice and carefully selected spirits.Next, we enjoyed some selections from the small plates section. We tried the Mole de Casa, Taco de Cochinita (pork tacos), and Aguachile (yellow-tail ceviche). All were fantastic with the tacos being the star! The pork was so tender with such deep flavor and spice. For the final course, we shared the Carne Asada and Papas Ahumadas (Potatos). Both portions were plenty big enough to share. The steak was marinated and cooked to perfection over the wood-fired grill, and the beans that came along with it were simply the best Ive ever had (hands down, no contest). To finish up the meal, we ordered both desserts. To say they were to die for is an understatement. You simply cant go wrong here. From start to finish, the thought and time that went into Sueno is apparent. I will certainly be returning here often and bringing people along to experience this fantastic place.
Delicious, inspired food that is an experience to eat and dellllicious cocktails however I would give it more of a 4.5 than 5 due to a portions. They’re small yes but I expect that from a fancy restaurant. It’s more the portion within the small plate that’s odd, ie a whole basket of chips but only a scoop of guacamole, or a handful of potatoes but only a small spoonful of (admittedly ammazinnng) sauce that I’d have preferred a whole bowl of, or a whole bowl of mole but only three street tacos to eat it with?Absolutely still check it out but I think there’s some to be desired in some of the ingredient portioning within the small plates to easier to enjoy the dish as intended with all the ingredients in every bite. Staff was amazing, atmosphere is fantastic. It’s very expensive but you expect that going in.
Great atmosphere, decent service. The food is very good but just not worth the prices they are charging. Were foodies and dont mind paying the higher prices but we expect to be wowed and we werent. Well certainly go back but Sueno wont be on our regular restaurant circuit.

2022-03-19This was our first outing to Sueño, but we already have a wish list for our next visit. Sitting at the counter facing the open kitchen provided a parade of dishes to spy as we decided on what to order. We were beyond impressed with the plating, flavor, and level of detail, every dish we tried. The drinks were also exceptional. Easily one of the best restaurants in Dayton and would hold its own in Chicago or NYC. Attentive service, attractive surroundings. The price was reasonable for the quality and service. Decor, and the open kitchen added to the experience. The only possible improvement would be adding outdoor seating.

2022-06-12Great place, amazing environment! very Miami feels. the tacos are great! guacamole is so amazingly fresh! ill be going back! Also, we sat at the bar and Stephen is an wow excellent bartender! we were told the chef at Sueno is number 1 across the 🇺🇸 USA. I highly recommend this place.October 2021, we had the 3 tacos pictures at Tender Mercy. Can you please bring these back? My boyfriend has been asking for them. They were a hit.

2021-09-28Went on a Saturday night. Reservations are definitely recommended. The space inside is very nice and the tables were well spaced. The menu is simple yet diverse enough that you shouldnt have any issues finding something you will like. The service was great. Order timing was spaced out properly and the server was present enough but not too much.Overall, we were pleased with the dishes we ordered. I cant say any of the food was really exceptional...it was good but some of the flavors were less than I expected. The tamale, while creative, was missing flavor. We also had the steak, which was presented great and cooked properly but not worth $48 in my opinion. Maybe it was our cut but it had more gristle and not quite as tender as we expected. Afterwards, we regretted not going with the chicken or fish. The drinks were also good but again, nothing fantastic. I had the Oaxacan Old Fashioned which sounded great as I was expecting tequila and mezcal flavors but it seemed diluted. In conclusion, we would like to go back and hopefully time will help to better establish this restaurant as I think it has a lot of potential and is much needed in the Dayton area.

2022-03-27The staff and atmosphere are great. The food is good. I am not entirely sure if it justifies the price. If you drop $150+(for 2) on dinner routinely...give it a go. For that price point, we can think of a few other restaurants in the Dayton area that we would rather go to. We have went twice and tried a decent amount of their current menu. It is hit or miss. We have had some really good bites and have also have some underwhelming ones. If you are with good company...chances are you will have a great time and enjoy your dinner. You might just walk away a little hungry and feeling like it is fairly overpriced. Just my opinion. Wish the best for them! They are a good group and work hard so that everyone can enjoy their experience.

2021-08-30Wow! This place was truly spectacular with an amazing vibe and great food. Be prepared to pay but its worth it. Also be sure to get a reservation it was very busy on Saturday night. Parking is a little rough around the building but they do offer valet. We were fortunate to be able to sit at the open kitchen and watch everything which is a show in and of itself. We had the guacamole which was really bright and tasted amazing with the housemade chips. The pork tacos were some of the tastiest Ive ever had. The piri piri chicken was tender and my husband is still talking about the sauce and wondering if he can buy a quart to go! The carne asada was perfect. The churro cake was a little disappointing so well probably try something else next time. Highly recommend this place and Dayton is really lucky to have such a high quality experience .

2021-10-25Incredible vibe and incredible food! I cant believe this place is in Dayton. We got the pumpkin seed dip as a starter and then the tamales, which might have been some of the best food Ive ever had. Also got the carne asada and Telanovela cocktail, which was just an all around 10/10.

2022-03-30Honestly the most inventive restaurant in Dayton. All dishes were well thought out and balanced with acid, heat, fire and fat. It’s lovely having such an establishment in this area. The cocktails are dangerously delicious. This establishment is pure quality. If you’re looking for quantity fried food than this is not it.Always bring my friends when visiting. Proud to have a such a culinary delight.

2022-04-15Amazing dining experience! The menu looks intimidating but our server (Al) explained everything in great detail and gave fantastic recommendations. From the pumpkin seed appetizer, pepper side dish, sea bass entree & the tartlet, every single bite was packed full of flavor and delicious. My husband and I shared everything and agreed that it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere is super cool and the service was phenomenal!!
