Rude baristas. Worst service ever.Just visiting the area and we brought our dog in to order, there was no sign in the door saying they’re not allowed. The baristas shouted at us from across the cafe “NO DOGS ALLOWED” really loud and mean.No hello or how are you. Just immediately rude from the start. It is fine that dogs are not allowed, I understand that but they could have handled it was better than being so rude in front of a full cafe to us. It was embarrassing. It’s not our fault we didn’t know that dogs were not allowed.
I tried this place for the first time and the coffee was pretty good. The pastries were okay, but I do appreciate the various coffee beans they have available. This is a good place for someone to go to that wants to understand more about how the roast and region influence the final taste of the coffee. The employees I interacted with were nice and friendly.
Cold.brew was watery and didnt have much flavor. The hipster behind the counter was more interested in talking to his friends than serving and he got all bent out of shape when I asked for a cup of hot water to use with my babys formula. Just not a great experience all around.
Right next to The Book Loft, its a good place to relax and have a good cup of coffee. We went for a Mocha Chill and a Chai Chill along with an Espresso Chocolate Cake. We didnt like the taste of either of the coffees - not to say something was wrong, just that it wasnt the kind of coffee that suited our taste buds. However, the Espresso Chocolate Cake was truly amazing - that explains why we had the last piece. The coffee flavor was perfectly balanced out with the chocolate. Visually too, the cake was super tempting. They have multiple seating options. There are a few tables just outside the cafe on the sidewalk. They have a good indoor capacity. In addition, they have a couple of tables with umbrellas in the patio set up theyve created. On a sunny day, open seating is definitely great. In addition, they have another closed peaceful room adjacent to the patio.Besides the brewed coffee, they also sell raw coffee, coffee machines and mugs etc. Just as you enter you also see some kind of machine (not sure what it is) that gives you a feeling that youre in the coffee world now!!!Overall, I loved the ambiance, the overall feel and the cake here. Not so impressed with the coffee yet, but would still give it another try if Im in this area.
Would love to visit and dine-in if we open to that point as the interior and exterior have a great, cozy vibe with a lot of traditional coffee items inside. I ordered the iced chai tea latte with oat milk and it wasn’t very spicy, which is fine. I like spicy chai’s, but this one was still good as it wasn’t too sweet. The price is fair and the service is kind and swift. Pastry selection is small, but the quality looks nice. Best addition is the outdoor space to the side that has ample seating, umbrellas, and I think WiFi :)

Just moved to the area and decided to give this place a try - I definitely recommend it! The employees were super friendly, the coffee was unique and delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. I really like all their merch too. I am excited to go back and try some of their cakes as well!
The coffee is pretty bad, whether its iced coffee, an espresso drink, or even a light roast pour over. The taste is Starbucks-level burnt. BUT the atmosphere of the store is great and the baked goods are always amazing. Its a nice location to sit and relax before going around GV
I love this place. Great staff, wonderful service, wonderful selection of beans to take home and can do any size (1/4, 1/2 bag, full bag). Will grind it for you. They have a wide selection of things, too (like Kombuchas, pastries, fun seasonal lattes). Lots of seating and areas, including outside.
Great coffee shop, awesome atmosphere and they’ve been a great contributor to the coffee scene in Columbus for a long time. Unfortunately I think they tend to over roast so I rarely grab pourovers or get my beans here. Additionally I don’t think that their espresso drinks rival some of the other shops in town. Still an awesome shop, and one of my favorite places to catch up with a friend or get some work done!
Great little local coffee shop with some great roasts of their own. Give their featured espressos a try or talk to them about their coffees and find a new favorite!Be sure to grab a latte and enjoy your baristas foam art!Don’t forget to ask for your Columbus coffee trail stamp card too!
Pretty good coffee, they do an above average job of social distancing and they have an ample amount of outdoor seating which I really appreciate in the current circumstances. The location is beautiful too. I feel like my recent visit was the first time in a year I was able to sit and enjoy food in public. My only nitpick is that I wish it was easier to read the menu when you’re waiting in line (it’s kind of far back), I couldn’t really read it easily until I was in front of the cashier and I didn’t want to hold up the line. Customer service is just fine! Don’t come here if you’re looking for someone to coddle you like a baby, but everyone was pleasant and competent.
Unsure how they get great reviews....staff are very rude. I get there are restrictions but shouting to customers to move or not walk a certain way was completely unnecessary.Apparently a double size is also a small?! All drinks ordered were the same size, however, they were not....so confusing. No service with a smile here! The woman on the till was so unwelcoming as was the person making the coffee. If you work in a customer facing role at least try and do it with some energy. Service with a smile is always good!Coffee was ok nothing special, my boys said the hot chocolate was good. I say walk on by to the next coffee shop.
The coffee was great but the male barista working today was unnecessarily rude and condescending. He may have just been having a bad day but his attitude and tone were uncalled for, especially as directed towards a paying customer. It was my first time in and due to this experience I do not plan on returning.
The best staufs location! I am not kidding when I say I had the BEST pumpkin spice latte here! When I was drinking it I couldnt stop saying how good it was, and even told my columbus friends about how they needed to come here! I love the location and environment of this location, its nice to get out of the busy locations of Columbus!
I’d give this place 5 stars for the coffee but 1 star for service. I’ll be generous and average to 3 stars.A friend of mine popped in for coffee with her young autistic son shortly after the new City mask mandate. When she walked in she noticed many seated people without masks on and didn’t think anything of it but then an employee rushed to her and in a nasty tone handed her a mask and told her to “put it on for the other customers”. I was disappointed to hear that my friend had been made a spectacle of by an employee that immediately assumed the worst of her.My friend and her husband have been regulars there for years but they are done and so are my wife and I. I get the challenge of complying with Covid regulations but that’s no excuse to assume the worst of your customers and humiliate them.
Stopped here for the Columbus Coffee Trail. Staff was not friendly or very helpful. We could barely hear the person taking our order and she seemed annoyed that we were there 🤷 Cold brew was just OK. My kids said the hot chocolate was good. Unfortunately we wont be back. Disappointing visit.
Some weirdo worker started yelling in the middle of the store at some guy because he took a dump in the toilet. It was so unprofessional. He did it twice too. The guy he was yelling at, to his credit, didn’t bother to say anything really but still. It was bizarre. The worker came off super aggressive and like a cry baby because he had to fix the toilet he shoulda fixed before someone had to go. Maybe he should’ve apologized for having a broken toilet in the store instead of being mad someone used it. There wasn’t even a sign on the door or anything. Couldn’t believe the grown man was crying so much
I do enjoy the coffee at Staufs but the customer service is not very good and has been pushing me to look elsewhere for coffee. The most recent experience was with the person making lattes Saturday morning who was incredibly rude to most customers including myself. I get that you are busy but please dont lash out at your customers and ruin everyone elses day as well.
I love this place! Big selection of great coffee, staff is always super friendly and helpful, delicious baked goods (the cheddar bacon scone and lemon poppy seed muffin are my favorites) and there is always good music playing. They have a nice big back room with extra space for sitting/studying, along with outside seating for the good weather says.
Came here for my first time and the way they have everything set up for COVID is very well done. And the coffee is delicious. So easy to stop by and get some yummy local tastes. Just skip going to Starbucks on the block corner and take the few extra steps for this little gem!
First and foremost the coffee is delicious and very well made. But even better the staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is very nice and inviting. The prices are very reasonable, a huge mug cost significantly less than comparable ‘hip’ coffee places and tastes a lot better in my opinion. I recently passed a few hours here getting a lot of work done and had some very pleasant conversations with very friendly patrons; this is a great place to meet new and interesting people.
The atmosphere and the lovely staff definitely made my day! I love how the front room has displayed coffee machines. The back room and outdoor is very nice to just hang out and talk. Overall a very nice and warm coffee shop. If you go to Staufs the red velvet cake is delicious! Try it :)
The taste of their coffee far exceeds the quality of Starbucks. The cost is a little bit more than Starbucks but well worth it. The ambiance of the coffee shop is awesome. Great place to unwind/relax, enjoy a good book or play cards with someone you love. Looking forward to trying their tea that we purchased to take home with us
Good coffee with a nice outdoor seating area. If the weather isnt great for outdoor sesting Staufs has a huge second room with tables great for a long study session. Coffee is reasonably priced, and the coffee snacks are pretty good as well. Overall a nice place to sit and have some coffee.
I usually stop in here early morning before I head to work. .I enjoy the Almond Joy latte ,a blueberry muffin. They are very reasonably priced considering the location. All the coffee is excellent, service can be hit or miss at times. But overall I enjoy this coffee shop and I have tried others in the area but nothing compares to Staufs. Its a nice big place not at all stuffy. You can enjoy your coffee in or outdoors in the summer and read your book or get some work done in chill comfy atmosphere.
Im a pretty regular of this location and love it. If I were to have a home base coffee shop, this would be it. The coffee is always fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and they even have some tasty scones and other treats to munch on while youre there. Whether youre looking for a calm coffee house to do some school work or just a cool place to meet up with a friend, Staufs in German Village is the go to place in the neighborhood. The outdoor patio is a wonderful place to sit and chat during the warmer months. Also, if you brew your own coffee, they have a great selection of probably about 20 coffee beans that they roast in house.
Warm friendly environment. Obvious focus on sustainability. Wide selection of whole coffee beans and loose leaf tea available. The best place on the block to wait for the bookstore next door to open. Much better than the coffee joint across the street I will not mention by name.
A really neat place to get some coffee and get some work done. Walk to the back and turn right? Theres a whole section witv tables for people to be able to bring their computers and chill. Plus, if you like the smell of coffee youll like the smell in there 😂. People were nice, coffee was good, everything checks out!
Staufs has a great atmosphere and phenomenal choices of coffee, both at the counter and of beans you can buy. I ordered a small cappuccino, and it was great, and I bought a bag of the Costa Rican coffee beans. I havent tasted them yet, but Im excited to. Its definitely expensive though! Ive been to many other coffee shops of similar quality, and this is by far the most expensive.
Ive tried just about every Staufs location in Columbus and German Village is my favorite! Always an awesome vibe, they have a room in the back that you can work or read. Most importantly, the coffee is amazing! This location makes a lavender syrup that is amazing! We buy their espresso beans to make at home
Great local coffee shop offering a wide variety of roasts and brewing options (cold brew, pour over, etc). They also have a pretty decent selection of coffee brewing implements for purchase as well - goose neck kettles, french presses, travel mugs, Chemex, etc. You can also purchase bulk coffee that theyve roasted in house. The shop is deceptively large so make sure you explore a little - there is another indoor space back past the bathrooms plus a nice private garden with tables.
Staufs Coffee Roasters in German Village has a really great vibe. Big windows with lots of natural lighting, two large rooms for seating and a really nice patio. Then there is their coffee. One of the biggest selections of coffee beans right on hand and available for pour overs, French press, or aeropress. They have a good selection of drinks for every level of coffee drinker. Also, their pastry game is on point! Muffins, scones, cakes and cookies! All delicious. Definitely a place Id recommend. Bonus points- its next to the book loft! Who doesnt like to sip coffee and read books?
The staff here was great. When someone took my drink, in addition to remaking it, they went and told the person that what they did wasnt ok. The coffee itself was good, but the mocha chill was made with dark chocolate, which wasnt my favorite. However, my husband thought it was great. The atmosphere is really cool, but it was crazy busy, which is what allowed someone to get my drink. The location in German Village is also great if you want a day out, but parking is a a huge hassle if you just want to make a quick coffee run.
TL;DR: Good place to grab a cappuccino with a friend, but there are better coffees in town.Staufs is one of the first coffee roasters in Columbus. Their German Village shop offers a great space for meetings or heads-down time with work. While they make a respectable cappuccino and other espresso based drinks, they still seems stuck in the world of Second Wave coffee. Their roasts are too dark for my taste --- even their light roasts --- which produces uninteresting, often burned-tasting coffee.
A great local coffee shop with a few locations around Columbus. The German Village location has an awesome patio/garden space to relax with friends or catch up on emails. If youre a fan of chocolate & peanut butter give the Buckeye specialty drink a try. Its a great alternative to dessert while walking the brick streets of German Village.
This place is huge with 2 rooms and a garden. The garden is really nice in sumner. The back room has a cooler, modern feel to it with lighter colored wood, and a lot of people working on their laptops. Kinda gives the impression of being a library. But the front room where you order and the coffee is made is super warm and welcoming with dark wood. It literally feels warmer too. The back room was kind of chilly. The coffee is classic Stauffs coffee, so you cant go wrong there! So no matter what your mood, youll find a place to sit and enjoy some coffee.
My dirty, iced chai latte was delicious. The drink prices were about average for any other coffee shop I have been in, and the staff was friendly. However the staff did not seem terribly knowledgeable and the prices on their coffee beans I found to be a bit high, even for a specialty shop. I suppose thats being a bit picky, and I have no msjor grievances. I would go back for another beverage.
Before going there a month back I hadnt been there since shortly after high school. It was much better than I remember. Of course back then I used to only get their premade coffee from a carafe. This time I got a pour over. My tastes have clearly shown some refinement since then. It was excellent!! I would definitely recommend supporting this coffee shop. They know what they are doing.
Ample seating, quiet atmosphere, and good coffee. The bad: very dim lighting. Strains my eyes when trying to read. The drinks are good, but take a strangled long time to prepare. Overall good place, but not amazing. Columbus coffee scene is nascent and in need of some more competition.
Extremely disappointed - i hope it is unique to this location only, because i have heard good things. Coffee beans were a burnt and took away from the flavor. The carrot cake was literally the worst carrot cake I have EVER had - dense like a fruit cake with terrible flavor. Lastly, the place was so dirty, how many weeks of not vacuuming does it take for a ball of hair like this to accumlate? Cob webs in corners. Interior needs updates. My fiance says the womans bathroom was horrendous. Couldnt have had a worse experience.
I love Staufs, and its great to have it within walking distance to my house. Even with the expanded space, though, it can sometimes be very difficult to find a seat due to all the people on laptops, camped out for a few hours. Other than that, the coffee is excellent!
Its a nice location and the staff is friendly, but dont go here if youre a coffee lover. I ordered a pourover there yesterday and was quite surprised to watch them dump water to fill the V60 and just let it drain into my cup. If they dont want to take that craft seriously, they should remove the item from the menu and stick to serving drip. Or at least reduce the price.
Best coffee house in German Village. This also happens to be my favorite place to get coffee and read or work on the computer in Columbus entirely. There is a nice patio, and work room in the back. The coffee has always been good, and the staff has always been friendly and informative. five stars
The coffee drinks are well made, but the same staff members working the register are consistently rude. I would rather patronize a locally owned establishment as opposed to the chain across the street. However, if you’re in the service industry you’re not going to get my business with that attitude.
The coffee shop I initially worked at in my teens sold this coffee and was the first coffee I ever drank. I drank every blend that came though the store. I was down in Columbus and rediscovered how great their coffee is. We also had a chance to meet the owner and chatted for a while about what he does and his love for the company, his employees, and, of course, coffee. Every blend is unique and the staff is so knowledgeable. If youre unsure where to start, talk to someone and make sure you get a cup of something you love. I recommend the Baba Budan, Colombia Supremo, and Costa Rica but cant wait to try the Guatemala and Panama we got!
The coffee is good, but the crowds of people (visiting the back room especially) are very inconsiderate to many who are trying to read a book or study in there, or just trying to enjoy a quieter setting. All get to be (involuntarily) included on the loud conversations of the pyramid-scheme sellers or people on their phones. Most inconsiderate, however, are the bible-study groups shouting loudly and professing their love for Jesus (in front of all of us). Many first-date couples just get up and leave. So, come join us in being frustrated by the obnoxiousness of many regulars here, who lack public-place etiquette, and apparently we (the public) are not allowed to say anything to them.
I got a vanilla latte and carrot cake. The latte was excellent although I was upset that it was served in a paper cup opposed to a mug because I ordered for here. The carrot cake was very stale and dry. I came here with my camera with intentions of having a small coffee photo shoot but the dinning area was very poorly lit and not aesthetiecally pleasing.
I like Staufs they have good coffee. But for those who are glowing over the coffee you got. Thats wonderful. You should enjoy a great cup of coffee you get there. They are one of my favorites that I can go to after most are closed. But Staufs is not the best. Have some Brioso, One Line, Mission or any number of fantastic roasters in Columbus.
I had a very interesting experience yesterday evening. I am just in town visiting friends and decided I would check out a local roaster. When I arrived, I took a minute to read the menu, didnt see what I wanted, and asked the employee nicely if they had it (expecting her to say no). When she said yes I got excited and walked away. On my way to sit down I heard an employee call my drink order pretentious. When I received my drink, it wasnt made correctly. My problem is not being called pretentious (although that wasnt good customer service). My problem wasnt recieveing the wrong beverage (although that was disappointing). My problem is the fact an employee said they had something they couldnt make. Please, if you cant do something, be honest and say no so the customer so doesnt get their hopes up only to be made fun of by the same employees who said yes.
This is indeed one of the best coffee places in Columbus. They do: Drip, Pourover, Aeropress and French Press, as well as all the usual suspects. Also they serve a wide selection of beans and coffee making equipment.Staff are always friendly and the place has a good vibe. Oh and the obligatory free wifi!
Here at least five times a week. I liked it better when it was the Cup O Joe and had plentiful soft seating, but even though theyve gone to a hard chairs Ikea style look, the coffee is still great, the pasteries are delicious, and the staff is top notch. You also cant beat the location right there in the middle of German Village. The Book Loft is right next door and the park is right down the street.
Place is alright. Not very much shade for the seats outside and my peanut butter frappuccino was bland. There was no shortage of seating spaces. You may get confused on parking. I was very lost. It looks like you would get towed. I ended up parking on a side street but limit is 2 hours. Then I ran out paneling because my meeting went over that. But my friend told me you can park along there that you dont have to have a permit.
The coffee was pretty good, but the service was terrible. The staff seemed very disinterested, and they never put in my wifes order (causing us to wait 10 mins for nothing). They put in the order after we brought it up and never told us when it was ready. No apology. Most likely wont be going back.I can get similar coffee with a better experience somewhere else.
Great prices and very friendly staff but unfortunately the coffee drinks here are just plain out gross. Have tried a few times now because I really want to like this place for some reason but man are the drinks just bad, especially when compared to the Cup O Joes that used to occupy this space.
I love Staufs, I truly do. I go to the grandview ave location quite often. Love their coffee selection. I was meeting with a friend in the downtown area so we chose to go to the German village branch. I figured Id get the same quality coffee I typically get from the original location. Boy, was I wrong. Two hours after leaving the place Im writhing in pain and sick to my stomach. Im more than certain I picked up a bacteria here. I dont really like giving places a bad name, but the moment youre costing me precious work hours (bc Im too sick to even type), well thats a different story. I will continue to visit their grandview location, just never again visiting their German Village one.
Staufs is definitely a coffee roaster with a huge selection of beans/roasts/flavours. Their snickerdoodle and buckeye are among some of my favourites, but you can get anything here and it will taste great! They also have a decent selection of teas and snack-ish foods like pastries
This is my FAVORITE coffee place... And I dont even live in Ohio! Their mochas are amazing and sure smooth - I loved the mocha last time and the buckeye (peanut butter) mocha on my most recent visit. Bf had the peanut butter frozen mocha and that was also great - not overpowering on the pb, but just right blend of coffee, chocolate, and pb. I will go here every time I am near Columbus!

2022-03-07Super tasty coffee shop. They roast their own beans and have a great selection to purchase and take home as well. Tried the lucky latte and sweetheart mocha while in town and love then both. They have a great outdoor patio and are right next door to one if the best bookshops Ive ever been to. Friendly staff and all around best coffee I found in Columbus.

2021-11-01Excellent service with detailed ordering options.Good sized coffee ☕ shop with seating inside and out.The coffee here no matter what you order taste delicious!Highly recommend trying their coffee as it beats out SBs coffee and I am not a coffee drinker. (Of course they have other drinks as well).

2021-08-07Cute little coffee shop in German town. The staff is very friendly and the coffee is great quality! They offer a lot of different coffee beans to purchase. They have lots of outdoor seating in the patio area. Great place if you want to catch up on work/studying or have a chill conversation with someone. If you’re serious about good coffee and chill coffee shops then this is the place for you!

2022-05-14I don’t know why this place gets SO much praise. It isn’t outright bad, but I can’t say that I’ve ever had a really good drink here. They always mess something up, or the quality of the ingredients just isn’t good. The most recent scenario was when I ordered a matcha, and they barely put in any powder. I paid for warm milk. They messed up my friends latte, tooI liked their patio, but even so, it’s not like the environment was particularly unique. All in all, there are coffee shops with both better drinks and more interesting environments. So there’s no need for me to return here.

2021-08-14Worth the line out the door (there’s absolutely a line) on the weekends because the coffee is that good! The location is great, the coffee is roasted right there on sight (you can see the roasters while you wait in line) and they have so many other coffee items you may need! Kettles, filters, cups, and all sorts of extras. Great spot on the coffee trail through Columbus

2022-02-26One Saturday out of the month we go to Pistacia Vera to grab some macarons and try different coffee shops out. So this being just down the road, we decided we would give it a try. To only be disappointed. It was so loud, the lady could barely hear our order, especially while we were wearing masks (Columbus mandate), so we had to repeat it several times. For it to still be wrong. We ordered a large iced caramel latte, light ice, and two large hot caramel lattes, one with almond milk and an extra shot. The iced latte made was a small, so I told the guy making it that it was supposed to be a large. He looked at me, looked at the order, rolled his eyes, and said with a hint of annoyance in his voice “so… you want a large then??” Yes, that’s what I told her, that’s what I paid for… so he grabs a large cup, dumps the small into it and just adds a bit more milk… not another shot of espresso, no caramel… just more milk… when I tried to mention it and asked if he could remake it, he acted as if he couldn’t hear me and just went on making the other drinks.. The one that was supposed to have almond milk, he started to pour cows milk in it.. so I stopped him and said it was supposed to be almond milk… he sighed with annoyance and grabbed the almond milk.. no extra shot.. at this point I felt uncomfortable with the customer service and wasn’t going to make a scene in front of my teen girls. So I walked away with our messed up order. I’m not sure if it was just the lack of care that day, but to me, the coffee just tasted like glorified Starbucks.. Except the iced latte, that just tasted like milk with a hint of coffee… 🤷♀️ Hard pass for me with this coffee shop..

2021-10-075 star experience, no doubt about it. Dark roast was SMOOOOOOTH and so delish. Chocolate chip cookie was also great. Friendly service, great ambience, and nestled on wonderful block to top it all off.Verdict - would go back and would recommend to friends.

2022-07-13Really wanted to live this place, based on reviews and it being next door to The Book Loft. I think I visited on an off day. I ordered an iced latte, but when my order arrived was informed that the flavor I chose didnt come in iced, only hot.Sooooo ... can we not pour the hot coffee over ice to cool it down? I asked for a cup of ice and did it myself. This isnt a problem, but the general attitude that you cant have an iced latte because the baristas just *wont* do it is a little strange.

2022-07-18The pour over in store was lovely. Glad to have found a great cup on my trip. But sadly got home to find my pound of coffee ground incorrectly (I know I know, I dont have a grinder) ... it was ground for pour over instead of chemex. BIG difference.
