Stark Library - Main Library in other cities:
Get books on line here it is like having the whole world at your fingertips . Has a help line that answers questions. In past went there in person always clean an neat an helpful. Now I like to read online an there are so many choices. If can do this ! You will be so happy. Cost is free as well, so enjoy.
This is obviously not the library of my childhood in the 1940s-50s, where I got all my preschool education and a lifelong love of reading. Does anyone know what happened to the wonderful Andrew Carnegie-built original Canton Public Library building? It ought to be a preserved historic structure--I cannot believe the city would permit it to be torn down. I recall many wondrous hours wandering the stacks, learning to use the card catalog, and just absorbing the ambiance of a place where so much knowledge was made freely available to everyone.
The Stark County District Library is a wonderful place to spend a few hours relaxing. One can choose to read a book (if you are old fashioned as I am), or use your laptop and free wifi, or even use their computers. The staff is very friendly and are always willing to help you find what you are looking for.Overall, the Stark County Library system is great. If the branch nearest you does not have a book, you can reserve one at a different branch and they will ship it to your branch. You can even search all of Ohio for hard to find books. My only beef is they split up fiction into science fiction, mystery, romance, etc. I wish they would simply shelve all fiction together, sorted on authors name, and then label the books as they do now (i.e. SF, Mys, etc.). This would make it much easier to find certain authors as I am never sure of the classification. In fact, some authors have books classified as plain Fiction and other books in the mystery section. How confusing!

2021-10-27Went to print off documents, my fiancée needed stuff printed off also. Despite the fact that we are 2 separate people (both physically present). I was charged for email headers (that i did not ask for) that printed on a separate page for mine as well as her print job, also. I tried talking to the supervisor, Jen, about the overcharge given to me and instead of doing so all she did was come up with every excuse as to why I was responsible for the charge. I get that the other person involved is my fiancée. But as far as business goes, that is irrelevant. Instead, also, of helping me figure out some sort of compensation for the overcharge she asked if my fiancée could just pay me back when, if the print jobs were done correctly neither of us would have had to pay anything according to their policy or at least my charge would have been minimal per MY print job. Would not suggest taking anyone with you if you need to print anything off because, not only will you be given the obligation to pay for another patrons print job, youll also be given excuses as well as being told that that person should pay you back the overcharge (charged by the library) instead of them....This is absurd as the print jobs cake from separate people as well as separate email addresses. Highly unethical even for a business!

2021-10-04Great staff. Always eager to help. I love how the different sections are divided so teens, children and adults have separate areas plus computer areas for each.

2018-11-05Great place to explore, there are just so many things to do and see. There are thousands and thousands of awesome books of course for everyone from birth until departure. They have a childrens/toddlers department with books, puppets, toys, games and computers and a nice librarian who happily answers questions and helps find things. Also check for activities and story time. They have a semi quiet room with new book releases and a cozy chair to relax and see which books you would like to check out. They have a teen department with books, comics, magazines , computers and a silent room for study. They have about 40 or so computers you can use for free for up to two hours , after that you may go up to the help desk and ask for extra time. The library has a genealogy department as well although I have not used it I know the library also offers help and classes in that department. There is just too much to name check online for various classes and groups for people of all ages. There are many help desks throughout the library with happy to help you people. It is worth the trip . oops they also make passports, copies, fax service, notory services ........... I could go on and on. Have a wonderful day!

2020-08-05My work as a writer requires research that over the years has taken me to numerous libraries and archives in several states. These experiences reveal Stark County District Library to be the worst, most unprofessional institution. The librarys problems include staff refusal to answer questions or render anything remotely akin to service. I have resigned myself to this reality and seek to minimize my contact with anyone at the library. This strategy is especially important during the pandemic, when contact with people can be perilous. In this context, my encounter with a security guard yesterday at the Perry Sippo branch was unwarranted and intrusive. Without explanation, she confiscated my daughters Fathers Day card to me, on the back of which I had written the title and call number of a book so that I would not need to look up the information at the library. I do not know whether my daughters kind message to me was read or circulated for gossip.I have been too angry to discuss this harassment with library staff, but my wife has tried to engage management. She has requested any video documenting this harassment and confiscation of my property without my permission. She has requested an explanation of this atrocious behavior. To date nothing has been forthcoming. It is difficult to understand why my tax dollars are used to harass me. Perhaps the fact that I am an immigrant and a disabled man excuses the librarys conduct. In the era of Trump, no behavior is too despicable. This library merits a negative rating. Unfortunately, 1 is the lowest grade in this scheme. In no universe, this one or a parallel construction, does this library deserve a positive number.

2015-06-21Loved it!The Stark County District Library is wonderful. Not only does the library keep coming up with innovative ideas and new programs that accommodate to a larger sector of patrons (IE: bike sharing) but they have one of THE BEST genealogy departments with THE BEST knowledgeable staff! I rate this library with the highest marks...if you are doing any kind of family research - this is the place to go!
