Wonderful church to attend for any service, whether as a visitor or a regular. Beautiful services, music, architecture, and stained glass windows. The priests, deacons, and staff are warm, welcoming, and insightful. Highly recommended as a place to attend Mass while in Columbus.
I was in town for business , so I attended the late afternoon Ash Wednesday service and remained for Eucharistic adoration. I received a warm welcome and experienced a vibrant spiritual community that was every bit as beautiful as the cathedral and the music. It felt like home.
Today was a celebratory rite when our seminarian Eugene took his vows to become a permanent deacon. The bishop celebrated the Mass with many priests, deacons and seminarians in attendance. From the beautiful music to the reception afterward, the event was filled with love and hope!
The seat of the Columbus Diocese, and a beautifully built church as well, St. Josephs cathedral is a beautiful experience. They offer a 12:30 Mass on Sundays, which is great when youre looking for a later option thats not in the evening. The parish parking is convenient and often has plenty of room.
The seat of the Columbus Catholic Diocese, majestic CATHEDRAL. Of note is the RETURN to a Holier place, rather than a modern showcase. The renovations of the 1970s-1980s is being tempered with a less modern look - more in tune with the architecture. The clear acrylic lecture and Ambo areas are now wood, or wood looking. The high golden shine of the altar canopy area is muted, the underside of the canopy is returned to night blue (although the beautiful stars once there are GONE).For a COMMUNITY feel, go to the neighboring German Village and try the newly restored (after near condemning in 2016) and revitalized Saint Mary Mother of God Catholic Church on Third Street.... youll be impressed. COMMUNION RAIL returned, even!!!
Spirituality is an important component to our lives. I have attended St. Joseph Cathedral for the better part of 15 years, not only is the Cathedral integral to the practice of my faith, it is integral to the Downtown community in Columbus, Ohio. The St. Joseph Cathedral parish draws members from across central Ohio and actively lives the core values of Liturgy, Arts, Music and Education in hows we live our lives each and every day. All visitors are welcome. I encourage you to visit out church, meditate on your spirituality and enjoy the sights and sounds of St. Joseph Cathedral.
Beautiful building.1st Sunday of Lent - Rosary was said before Mass and responses were in latin. A Mass/music guide was provided. The homily was nice and he offered confession immediately after Mass *awesome. The bulletin had a examination of conscience guide, a lenten guide, and (my favorite) Lectio Divina guide for the weeks reading.
Each year, on the Tuesday before Easter, during the annual Chrism Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, a small group of my Roman Catholic friends and I stand outside of that cathedral holding signs with messages urging the Roman Catholic Church to ordain women.Passing pedestrians, motorists, and COTA bus drivers often give us the thumbs-up sign.It is particularly interesting when the busloads of nuns -- usually all of them dressed in the same way -- arrive to attend the Chrism Mass. Some of the arriving nuns will surreptitiously give us the thumbs-up sign; some of the arriving nuns will openly scold us for our position.

2017-06-29Lovely stone block church. I was expecting more, being called a cathedral. I didnt think it was any more spectacular than many churches... just bigger.

2020-11-09St. Joseph Cathedral has a charity that blessed me and countless others with a sack lunch twice daily on weekdays and once daily on weekends.Theres been many times over the years when I was very grateful to receive that sack meal. They also blessed me with some warm gloves. To God be the glory in Christ Jesus.Amen
