Son of Thurman in other cities:
Awesome awesome awesome!!!!.... definitely the best burger I have ever had hands down!! They have the portions, they have the flavors, they have the location and atmosphere. 5 stars earned and achieved...There are 2 issues... 1 we had one waitress have an attitude but didnt ruin the day...2 the wait to get in... which was totally worth it!!!
Went to eat with my wife..got seated in a high top which was great..we thought. The high top chairs were not in good condition so we asked to change tables…there were 2 free within feet of our table. The front gal told us we’d have to got back to the front to wait..like what? I asked to speak to a manager…she said ‘her boss hadn’t been here for some time but she’d get the bar tender. We waited to talk to the bar tender…10 minutes later the bar tender comes out and shares with the table beside us that they have no clean plates and walks right by us.Wow…We told the front gal we were leaving and she said ‘okay!’Business is too hard to come by to let a customer go.Managers claim there’s no one to work..yet this manager wasn’t even available to come up with a solution.Discouraged that the leadership wasn’t even on site.
Picking my daughter up for the holidays from OWU. She wanted me to tryout this place, a favorite of hers while at school. The burger was amazing, full of flavor, and huge!!. I was only able to eat half of it, it was so big. I believe it was a Thurman burger, seen in this picture. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes burgers.
We stopped here one day after going hiking. We had heard about their burgers on FB and from friends. It was just after lockdown and the restaurant and staff did an amazing job with being compliant and friendly. I especially love the $’s taped everywhere that go to charity when they fall. But then we received our burgers...! They were amazing and well worth the price and drive. We ordered the pizza burger, the cheeseburger deluxe, and the blue cheese burger (I cannot remember the name). FANTASTIC! The fries and chips were good also.
Dont come here if you have had any kind of surgery for weight loss or if you are on medication that prevents you from eating much, management is not accommodating or make sure you have your card! After coming here and trying to order a simple grilled cheese off the kids due to a medication that I am on that suppress my appetite, I got told that I was not allowed to do so and that I would have to order off the adult menu! That would not have been a problem if I was ordering a hamburger or some that could be taken home and reheated but that was not the case, I was ordering a grilled cheese. They make cards that you can carry to show restaurants but did not have it, even spoke with a female manager that stuck with the fact that you must order off the adult menu unless you are 10 and under. At this point I choose not to eat and sat with my family as they did. Guess if they dont want to accommodate people that are unable to eat that much, they dont need any of my money.
Great food and service, but...The music was something else. Dropping F bombs on the radio very loud, one song after the other. Asked and was told the stations rotate and they cant change it. Im not a prude, but I dont need someone screaming F youat me during my meal. Someone else also complained. Its a shame cause it was great other than that, but it was impossible to ignore.
Food was ok. Service was slow. Bartender working 6/26 at 6pm was the rudest bartender I have ever come in contact with. Short woman with red T-shirt and jeans on. After our interaction with her I wanted our group to leave but they wanted to give the place a chance. Wish we had left then. Not worth the time or money
I have been here once before and it was great but tonight was my second time there and we are not planning on going back. We both ordered cheeseburgers, mine only bacon lettuce and cheese and his was only cheese and ketchup. On his they added mayo and on mine they had pickle, mayo, tomato, and onion. We were both there in the car when we ordered so we can both confirm that we ordered correctly. We werent given a receipt to even call and ask management what happened. I am truly disappointed, I was looking forward to this. Also notable that children were running the place and didnt even ask for a name for our order. Just completely a mess.
If you dont mind the owner coming up to you while out to dinner with your best friend and asking you if you have an only fans.. Id say this is the place to go.It was the second thing that he said to us after asking if we were sisters.Followed by, this is my place btw, thanks for coming in.I felt it was very inappropriate and highly unprofessional.I wouldnt be writing this review had it been a random person saying this to us, because I realize that times have changed. I get that. But its the fact that the owner came and said that, to go out of his way to make me feel uncomfortable while eating in his place of business.
We arrived- there where 10 of us. Got a table fairly quickly our server did ok on taking orders everything was right when It came out but it took over a hour. When the server brought refills she dropped them at the edge of the table and did not pass them out and did not take old glasses so we had a ton just sitting on the table. She maybe checked on us 3 times. It Automatically adds an 18% gratuity which our bill was $115 for 5 people and $100 for the other 5. The server was not worth $38.70. Probably wont return
Food and service was great wings n pizza best Ive had in awhile . It was little pricey for just me and my twin girls but thats everywhere now a days . Least they make it up with good service and good food .And I forgot my phone and waitress ran me down ...thanks again
Food was really good and nice large portions. Onion rings was tasty along with the burgers. My husband Ordered The Thurman and I got the Son of Bacon burger. Only thing I would change is that the bacon be a bit more crispy and less chewy. The atmosphere was pretty interesting, fun and laid back. Our service was good. Staff are very friendly.
We decided to try this place out when we drove through Delaware. Its a fun and rather quirky looking place inside. Even with being busy, they seated us and took our orders very quickly. We were not prepared for the size of the burgers!! Wow!! They were overdone but were actually quite Awesome! The only reason I have to mark it down a star was because of the cleanliness. It was quite a grimey dirty place. There was a mystery puddle under my feet and even when I told them about it, nothing was done to fix it. We were just told sorry. The basket of silverware on the table was mostly dirty. The napkin dispenser...I would totally give it a 5 star if it was cleaner. But overall, a fun experience!
Yikes. Ive heard such great things and didnt experience one good thing about this place when we went. After waiting 30 minutes just to sit down a server came over to us without introducing herself, the specials or asking if we have ever been there. She took our drink orders with an attitude as if we were bothering her and asking stupid questions, keep in mind we had never been there before. We ordered our food and waited maybe 45-55 minutes. We were a table of three and ordered a BLT without mayo (it came with mayo) a Thurmadelphia which was so gross my mom threw it up. I ordered a pizza thin which was terrible, it was cardboard and grease. We had one of the menu items returned and she didnt care, she couldnt even fake it. Forget getting any drink refills. We left completely unsatisfied and frustrated for the worst service ever.
We had sliced pickled chips as a appetizer and they were the best, they were crunchy they were flavorful bold hands down. great appetizer! Then I had the son of bacon burger talking about filling could hardly even put my mouth around it. Had to cut that burger in half. My daughter had the kids grilled cheese and French fries talking about a full basket. My girlfriend had the cheddar bacon burger people across the way at a different table were like wow that looks great what is that. we told them. so that is what they ordered also. Overall had a really great experience. The server was awesome not everyday that we tip somebody OVER 20% but she was well worth it. wish I could remember her name.sorry did not get a picture of the cheddar bacon burger. but here is one of the bacon burger, and the kids grilled cheese.
Wings were very nice and crispy, but did not have too much skin or breading, so you actually got good amount of meat.Side salad was very large, at least the take out portion of it, enough to fill you up. Not sure how big the actual entree size salad would be.The Ruben balls were a little underwhelming. First off, I got 6 of them for like $8, which isnt great for something you just drop into the fryer for a few minutes, they didnt look homemade. They were more like a hush puppy with couple of bits of meat and tiny bits of sauerkraut.
Awesome burgers. They are huge, but there is a $3 fee to split a plate. Also, I am gluten free and my bun came out cold and the lunch meat and cheese that is on the Thurman burger was also cold. Everyone elses was good. Next time Im going without the bun or making sure they bring mine to me hot.
Going to honest I wasnt sure how Id feel about this place after reading mixed reviews but it was suggested by a family friend who travels a lot and the restaurant did not disappoint. The service was prompt, the food came out quicky and hot and more importantly correct. Because we were hungry we ordered a basket of half fries and half onion strings and the fries were amazing! However after trying my sisters onion rings I regretted not upgrading to them too lol. I got the Kanas (city?) Burger that came with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato (that I asked to be removed), onion (that I asked to be grilled -slight upcharge that I wish I was informed about- but still worth it) and bbq sauce. Soooooo good. My sister got the western chicken sandwich, and my brother in law got something named after thor I believe. We all loved the food but couldnt finish the burgers since they were so big. HIGHLY recommend this place. Also they have this cute thing where you can put a dollar bill on the wall with your name and date of visit. However bc of covid they couldnt lend us a marker or tape so if you wanna leave your name I recommend bringing a bill, a marker and some tape lol.
For all the ingredients on a Thurman Burger, it sure was bland. The burger meat was excellent, as was the cheeses and bun. Would have preferred fresh mushrooms, raw onion and real mild pepper rings. Maybe I picked the wrong burger, theres a lot to choose from. That said I didnt mind the bill. Expect ~$20 per plate w/soda.
Took my family out for dinner and drinks. My youngest is 21 and attends school in Virginia. The waitress refused to serve her because she had a vertical license. I asked if it made a difference if I was her father she said no. I believe state law allows for parents to buy for minor children. Regardless she is 21. We got up and left. This discrimination based on ignorance of different state licensing laws left us frustrated. We won’t be back and encourage others to avoid places that discriminate based on ignorance.
Blazing burger 👍 Jaeger burger👎. Went early in the day so people were still getting the restaurant ready for service so the service we received was a little.sparse. I think they may have forgotten.to.add seasoning to the Jaeger burger as the beef was a little bland. Basically the same atmosphere as the Thurmans in German village with the brick walls and dollar bills taped to the wall with silly things written in sharpy on them.
Fun atmosphere, good menu, very large portions. I thought it was petty they charged to split an entree, until I saw the size of my entree. Was visiting the area from out of town, but if lived nearby, would frequently share a sub with my wife and not sweat the fee. Looking for excuse to be in the area again.
Always a good burger place first. If you plan on going dont wear white and plan on a mess. With burgers this big you want to make sure you bring your appetite. I went with my boyfriend and sister. I had a beefy garden burger, he had the mushroom burger, and my sister had the class son of Thurmans burger. The best burgers are made here.
Ive been to Thurmans in German village before and this did not disappoint. My husband got the Johnny burger which was one of the best burgers weve ever had. I got the burger that came with a hotdog on top of it which was good but didnt compare to the Johnny burger. The fries had a great seasoning on them, but were cut a little thick for my liking. We went on a Wednesday night and had very fast service with no wait for a table. We will definitely come back here again on a future trip to Delaware.
Have ate here quite a bit until I got food poisoning from their veggie burger a few weeks ago. That sucked! Had to miss work & even worse....felt like dying for a good 24 hours after eating the veggie burger & onion straws. Holy moly!! RUN! On the bright side I did lose a couple pounds after the food poisoning and not eating for the next 2 days.
When my son is at band camp at Ohio Wesleyan, a friend and I visit to take pictures. For three years in a row we’ve eaten at Son of Thurman and for three years, it has been the most delicious burger we’ve had all year. This is a Sot’s Big Tex Burger. This is what a Big Mac wishes it was. My son is a senior this year, so a visit next year isn’t necessary but I’ll find a reason to drive an hour and a half to get another sometime soon. We added our dollar to a bench at the booth we’ve sat at all three years.
Clean, they have outside tables, the food is great, I could not eat it all ( I tried ) employees are great, they even have a couple spicy options on the menu , we had no wait at 3 in the afternoon. A great motorcycle destination. Street side parking. Downtown renovations turned out great. I look forward to returning this summer for the towns first Friday event.
A branch of the Thurman Cafe in Columbus, this restaurant is every bit as good. Our service was impeccable too, which I feel adds to the meal. Their hamburgers are second to none. But go hungry!! You get a ton of food. We also tried the onion ring and the pretzel bites appetizers, and they were great too.
I was visiting from Georgia. My brother took me to Thurmans for a burger. I must say the best burger in Columbus/Delaware. My burger was cooked medium well and still very juicy. I am a burger lover and try burgers everywhere I travel. Loved, loved it. Also the spicy salsa is best Ive ever had. Home made with just the right amount of heat. I strongly recommend this business. I also met the owner great guy.
Food was excellent and nice portions. Waitress could have been more attentive to needs of customers. Empty glasses sitting at end of table is a sign to please refill, but she woulda have to been on floor to notice. Will be back and hopefully a better waitress. Would of been a 5.
There were two of us and we were seated outside with a group of 20 so needless to say, the two of us couldnt have a conversation with the drunkenness happening around us. One of the barstools was very lopsided and there was no way to stay seated properly. There was no drink menu.... so we had to just guess what they have (because the waitresses didnt tell us anything- not her fault though, she was preoccupied with the drunks next to us). It took FOREVER to get our food- seriously, it was over an hour. And, while some people may like ginormous burgers, I dont care to eat an entire pound of dry ground beef on a bun. The fries were horrible. All around, it was a terrible experience.
Was disappointed this trip. Usually a great place to go. Asked for burger to be well done but still very pink throughout. Waitress offered to take back to the kitchen but I didnt have time to wait some more. In my opinion I shouldnt have this issue at a place that makes a lot of burgers. I just paid and took it home. Was not very good microwaved. But on an upside waitress was very friendly and the pretzel bites were filling.
Over priced, average food. The hamburgers we selected were too thick, so I had to eat mine with a fork and knife, which is not fun. Youd think thicker is better, but not for me. The french fries were thick and not crispy, too potatoey. Im fine with thicker french fries, but they have to be crispy, at least thats my preference. The service was good, and we did like the atmosphere. This restaurant has a lot of great reviews from others, its just not our cup of tea, so it wont be a do-over for us.
Maybe this is your kind of thing, but its not mine. The food, not just the portions, is comically large. Like unhinge your serpent jaw to fit it in there large. The flavor of the food Ive had is best described as fine. This coupled with the fact that the simple act of eating it is frustrating makes for an underwhelming experience and one that Id rather skip.
Wont go back. I ordered a roast beef sandwich with slaw no onion. It came with onion and roast beef lunch meat.Very disappointed. The lunch meat(roast beef) looked rather dark, slippery. I took onion off and ordered more warm slaw. Couldnt finish. The fries were warm. I had been here before..it wasnt good then.
Girl at front door was very sweet. There was about a 5 minute wait. Ordered drink at bar. Bartender was friendly. Got to table (there were 4 of us) Ordered more drinks and an appetizer. Came pretty quick. Gave our food order and thats the last time we saw our waitress. Flagged her down after 30 minutes and asked about our food. She walked by real fast and said we are just getting caught up. ?? Twenty minutes later as she is serving the people their meals who came in 30 minutes after us...we asked for our check. She said your food is coming as she is walking by real fast. We said forget it. She never once came to us to apologize for the delay or give us an explanation for the delay. Bartender came up to give us the check and said is there a problem? We said yes we have waited way too long for our food. No apology...nothing. Getting our cash together to pay and Bartender comes back to us and says Ill take that up for you. Still no apology. Drove 30 miles for this. Just really disappointed.
The staff are incredibly attentive and the food is fantastic! It is a bit on the pricey side so it isnt something that could be enjoyed frequently by those on a tight budget but the food and experience are worth the times you can afford to splurge a little. They actually know the definition of a burger cooked to medium and are able to anticipate your needs with their perceptive wait staff. I hope you have the ability to enjoy a great night out at this establishment.
Awesome food!! Theres something for everyones taste on this menu. A very wide array of flavors and foods, from chicken wings to pizza, subs and burgers. So many options that its hard to choose. Ive tried quite a few things and have NEVER been disappointed. The staff is amazing as well. Always a pleasure to go to Son of Thurman
Over priced burgers. Too big to fit mouth around so you cant even get the flavor combinations which they do have a lot of. Too much meat to topping ratio. And the burger was rather dry. 5 guys would be my pick any day. Half the price and a much more satisfying taste. I would like to see regular size options for normal people. Instead it just feels like walking into a restaurant full of overly macho guys all feeling like they have something to prove and being there makes them more manly. Basically this place is a magnet for guys with an inferiority complex. Plus no parking. Trying to get your food to go to avoid this environment will only result in a couple burger because you have to park half a mile away. They need to come up with a better system for their lunch customers.
On, Sunday, September 12, 2021, my husband and I were in Ohio to visit our children. One of them suggested, Thurmans for dinner. We made reservations for 10 and ended up with more bodies. We were accommodated with no problems. Amy was our server. She was ahhhhhhhmazing! Thank you, Amy! Not only was the service great, but the foooooooood was out of this world. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a great experience during our visit with family! ❤️
If you serve a special burger with a specific sauce and you dont put enough on that burger that you can even taste it (bbq, ranch etc.) you shouldnt charge $1.25 more on top of the $15.49 cost of the burger, for an additional side of what is supposed to make that burger special!!And then say it is nearly universal for places to do that? NO, it isnt! Are you going to start charging to use ketchup for fries or napkins!?Keep nickel and diming your customers....last time you will do it to us! (and, you are a sad imitation of the original Thurmans!!)
Our party of 8 was served by Jayla who totally took care of us! Most had burgers, I had the Thurmandelphia sandwich which I would recommend to anyone. The jalapeno bottlecaps are awesome! We had a great time and will certainly return again. Best part is taking half your sandwich that you couldnt finish home for tomorrows lunch...
Honestly - one of the worst restaurants in delaware. I’ve been here three times in last two years, hoping each time I’ll like it. Sometimes just get hungry for a hamburger. This place serves meat with no real flavor. It’s just big and basically tasteless and over priced. Go to ha burger inn right across the street. 1/2 the price and actually tastes like a hamburger.
When youre looking for a 2000 calorie meal this is the place. The Ranch Burger and Kansas City Burger were very good. You get a lot of fries or onion straws, those were like you see anywhere else. My son had the Blazing Burger which he said was good but it was just hot without a lot of flavor. We ate inside and the service was slow. I just believe they were short handed, but the burgers were very good. Just nice to be out.
The burgers taste homemade. They are very, very big. Dont like the fact that you cant sub fries without a $2 charge. Kettle chips rip my mouth to pieces, there shouldnt be an extra charge for comfort and ease of eating. Looks like a typical dive bar with the atmosphere and decor to match. Wait staff was friendly and parking wasnt a hassle. Nice location.
Never gonna eat here again. Sat down, ordered a beer and was ordering food. Their system went down. Couldn’t ring up my food. And still charged me for my drink. They couldn’t process my card payment because of their system. I had to walk down the block and get charged an atm fee to pay for the drink. And they couldn’t take my food order even tho they were still taking orders across the bar for food. Had to leave and get dinner somewhere else after them taking up my whole evening. Super unprofessional staff. Sad thing is I’ve heard good stuff about their food. 😂😂. Whole reason I went there.
Service was horrible. Waitress was more interested in her cell phone then anything else. Sat at bar with phone in plain sight. Was not busy so it wasnt because of that. She just plainly did not want to be there. Mushroom burger needs the mushrooms cooked not just thrown on. Was not impressed and will not return
We visited Son of Thurman on Saturday night for the first time. We had the most amazing server, Haley!! She was spectacular! So fun and attentive to our needs!! We had so much fun with her. I haven’t laughed with a server that much ever. She’s great. I hope they’re all like her. The food was amazing too! Great experience, we will definitely be back!!! HALEY... keep doing what you do!! You Rock!
Sorry excuse for a restaurant. Think what you like, but this is truth: Served my child milk that was so spoiled that it made him gag and almost throw up after his first sip. I smelled it, and it smelled like pickle juice or alcohol (or who knows) nothing like any milk has ever smelled. Completely unacceptable. This is the second time we have been there. The first was ruined with unusually poor service. That was years ago, so we gave it a second try. This time around after attempting to get over the sour milk incident, and ordering, we just had to leave. I didnt want to find out what else is in store for us given any more time spent there.Either people just go here for the name or to drink. But the atmosphere and service arent it. Sticky tables, grimy feel...there is well worn but well maintained, and then there is just plain worn down and out. This place is worn out. At the top of the worse restaurant experiences Ive had anywhere.
The food is great, and some of the staff is great. Others are not. We are here probably 8 times a month. Every Tuesday, and once either Saturday or Sunday. On this visit, I asked the hostess if we could have a booth, after walking through and seeing a clean one available. I was told that only a table was available. Within minutes, a party of similar size was seated at the booth with nothing being done to the booth to prepare it. That is just dishonest and really poor service. Had she stated we are trying to keep our server rotation or something like that, I would have understood, but that was not the case. I wonder if the ownership would miss our $400-$500 / month because a hostess decides to be a jerk.
Son of Thurmans has massive quantities of food. The prices are a little high in my opinion, but I always have leftovers. I like their fresh cut fries and their creative burgers and sandwiches. The appetizers are usually a good-sized portion as well. Generally my service there is just okay, and there are frequently long wait times.
Absolutely wonderful. Came during off peak hours. It does have a very relaxed atmosphere. Our waitress was wonderful. It does have a dim lit pub look to the restaurant. The burgers were HUGE . So large I had to eat it with a fork and knife. The fact that I had ordered appetizers meant I had half of my burger left over. I just couldnt finish the whole thing and had to take home. The food was awesome just be prepared for very large portions.
Not a fan. The positive- the service was good. The burgers are disappointing in my opinion. They are oversized and tasteless. If you are going to make the burger so big I would suggest that you pay some attention to seasoning the meat thoroughly. I had to eat it with a fork because it was so sloppy. I ate about 1/3 of my meatloaf on a bun. It was nearly impossible to eat on the saucer size plate they provided. The fries were so greasy and had zero crispness. Not sure what all of the hype is about but I have had burgers from Wendys that taste better... Wont be going back.
Great Food and service! Our burgers came out quick even though they were busy. Cut your burger in half. Itll make it a little easier to handle. They actually have a host to seat you here unlike the original. It makes it a lot easier to get in. Plus its a little bigger too. Definitely worth the drive up from Columbus.
Our first time-and only time-to patronize this restaurant. We decided to have lunch in Delaware, saw SOT, and chose to have a beer and lunch there. As soon as we were seated, the server asked what we wanted to drink. We told her that we needed a couple minutes before ordering. She threw the menus on the table, brought us water and never returned to take our beer or food orders even though she looked our way several times, conversed with the other server, and was not busy. We waited over 10 minutes. The restaurant was not busy; we felt that, for some unknown reason, we had ticked the server off bc we needed time to look at the beer choices. We decided to get up and leave and try another restaurant down the street. We ended up at the Flying Pig. The server at FP couldn’t have been more pleasant...and the food was delicious. Maybe SOT has delicious food as well...poor service wasn’t worth waiting around to see.
I waited three years to try this place and had heard nothing but rave reviews. I like the atmosphere and hey it’s very local to me and that’s really good. However I will not be coming back. My wife and I don’t eat much so we split a Hawaiian burger. It was so big that I couldn’t finish my half. It seemed as though this burger was boiled due to the extreme thickness, texture, and lack of flavor and minimal charring. I felt disgusting after eating my half. On top of this they charged a plate sharing fee even though we got an appetizer. I felt like this place is quantity over quality and made it feel like a money grab. Anywhere but here will serve you a better burger. Server was nice though.
We heard about Thurmans and Son of Thurmans. So ,with it be easier to get to Son.of Thurmans ,.we decided to stop in to get it a try. First off, I LOVE Clark Gable. So, seeing this handsome devils photo in there was a heart stopper. This place oozes warm and cozy with tons of charm! The staff is friendly and omg the food! Haha... if you leave here hungry? That is definitely on you! There is enough on your plate that warrants a doggie bag! But, it so good and make sure you leave room for dessert or just order it to go! You wont be disappointed and its gonna make you want to come back! Weve already been 4 times!
Waited an hour and a half after we was told 35 minutes.. only reason we were seated is husband went in and asked after seeing ppl seated in front of us.. 10 minute wait for menus another 15 for drinks 15 more to take order... no appetizers brought hour... our food arrives after an hour. Cold... still no appetizers.. will not be back
This place has so many choices for burgers and I am talking about MONSTER burgers. This is the second time I have been there so I did not go with a burger but a very thin crust Reuben pizza. This thing blew me away...the crust for how thin is was, was unreal good. The pizza as a whole tasted so good. I also recommend getting the thick cut fresh french fries that you will not be able to stop eating. Service was good and prices are decent.
If you like big portions this is your place. As for tasty food. It wasnt my thing. I got the Thurman burger as it came. I thought it was pretty plain honestly. It wasnt anything special. I also had the chips with salsa and cheese dip. They were pretty good. Just wish they were actual corn chips. Pretty sure it was the same dough they use to make the pizza. Out of everything I tried the pizza was the best. My whole family got something different so I tried 6 different items. Staff was friendly and prompt. Food was ok but Ive definitely had better from similar places
First visit and it was great. Fun ambience with all the thousands of dollar bills taped to every surface. Server Kaitlyn was right there and always helpful. We didnt have any of the famous burgers. .. Sorry! Husband had Thurman Philly. It was HUGE and he loved it. I had the 3 piece fish dinner and the fish was awesome! It had a thin, very crisp coating with very moist fish inside. Heartily recommend Son of Thurman!!
I think this is their third year maybe fourth in Delaware. Which is encouraging oh, they do have good burgers, cook the way that you want them meaning medium or well-done. Large selection, friendly staff. They make a good coleslaw oh, which has its own distinct flavor. Not like the common coleslaw youve received so many other places. They have an open face hamburger which is very good in the french fries are nice and good supply of them
Idk man. The burgers is just a big chunk of meat. I understand they want to give you a 12 ounce patty but maybe it would be more edible and flavorful if it where 3 4 ounce patties stacked together with at least 2 pieces of cheese instead of just one. Steak fries suck . Theyre too potatoey. And not worth 2 extra dollars. Who wants kettle chips. Burgers and fries belong together.
I know this place is known for their amazing burgers, and the person I was with had a burger and said it was great but I dont like burgers. So for my fellow red-meat-free eaters this menu has plenty to choose from. The portions are very generous. The turkey reuban could have used less cheese and more sauerkraut, but otherwise was fantastic. And the fries might be the best Ive ever had!
I called to see if they do call ahead seating... here was the conversation.Me - hi do you do call ahead?Them - for seating?Me - uhhh ya.Them - No, we dont do thatMe - Oh okThem - Well we do, but its only for parties of 7 or moreMe - OK, I have 7 peopleThe phone conversation was a bit ridiculous followed by a waitress that just got to work and didnt seem to be very happy about it. She automatically added 18% gratuity as well. She wasnt pleasant by any means, but would have received more if she didnt add the 18%.The food is phenomenal and worth the trip. Hopefully you dont get our waitress.
We find ourselves saying I want a burger and then not son of Thurman theyre too bigSeriously weve found theyre a big ball of ground beef not really cooked in the middle. Good but too much. We find ourselves choosing to go somewhere else. It can be good but something has made us decide to go somewhere else?
Been here dozen times in the last 2 years. Today, Friday around 2pm stopped to grab a late lunch. Fried pickles to start (favorite) …. Totally disappointed. They had little to no breading, were all stuck together and all stuck together. I ordered the Italian Sub. tasty, but cold in the middle. my wife ordered the veggie burger, she said it was very good. Staff was disorderly and lazy. Unacceptable since there was only about 10 people at the time. Really hope things change next visit, or it will be the last.
Insanely large burger. Very good- cooked well with quality meat and great flavor... but unless you can unhinge your jaw like an anaconda trying eat an entire cow you wont be able to get all of the flavors in one bite. Fries were quality too and a good beer selection.
HUGE burger menu! Lots of interesting combinations. The burgers are really big, so be prepared to take some home. Strong and delicious drinks. Room for improvement on the appetizers, not a lot of variation. The staff is all very nice and attentive. It can get busy, so the wait can be a little long.
The place has some of the best burgers in Delaware. They definitely dont lack in the variety department. My only complaint is that the burgers are so big, it is impossible to eat without using a fork and knife. But hey, who doesnt like a nice utensil burger every now and then?
Went to Son of Thurman on 11/6/217 for the first time for lunch. The wait staff was nice and attentive, the atmosphere was unique and kept me looking around the whole time I was waiting for my food.Their burgers are definitely “knife and fork” burgers. Generous portions would be an understatement. If you haven’t been to Son of Thurman, don’t wait any longer. It will not disappoint.
Thurman and Son of Thurman’s have always had fantastic burgers. The atmosphere and staff in Delaware are both fantastic, but the food and pricing are sub par. The ‘medium’ burger came out solid brown and tasted like meatloaf - almost extra well done. We always split a burger because they are big, and you are forced to do a $3 split plate charge. But even with that, they put everything on one plate and don’t cut the burger in half. The other plate came with only about seven onion rings and nothing else. And for beers, $7.50 for a local light lager is very steep - more than what you pay at an upscale steakhouse. Love the burgers (most times), cool atmosphere and great staff, but probably won’t be back.
I keep giving them another try because of all the amazing things people say, but they keep disappointing me. The burger Ive had there was decent, but way overpriced for the quality. As for everything else Ive had: bad. No other word for it. Tonight, for instance, my chicken club was overcooked and gross and the mozzarella sticks tasted like microwaved (and not enough) junk you get from the grocery store. $40 later and I feel like it was money wasted.
Good, but pricey for a family2 kids meals, 2 adult burger meals, 2 beers and total bill was $55 or $65 after tip. Also they charge 2.99 to split a meal. They need some cheaper kids options and a smaller portions option on the burgers. My wife ate 1/2 of her $13 burger and I made it about 3/4 through mine. Good food, probably wont go back with the kids, too expensive (especially on kids meals) and at $55 there are better options.Service was slow, took almost an hour to eat with no traffic on a Wednesday night.

2022-03-26Took the wife here because she really wanted a good burger. We got onion rings for an appetizer. They were good, average onion rings. Wife ordered the bacon burger which was huge and she really enjoyed it. Bacon was crisp which is the way bacon should be. I ordered the Macedonian burger with extra feta cheese. It was really good. Our server Kim was super attentive and right on top of drink refills. We will definitely be returning.

2022-05-21Pretty cool restaurant with a bar vibe. Went there for the thumanator burger because it was recommended to us. It did not disappoint in being a huge burger. 2 x 3/4 lb patties, bacon, cheese, ham, etc etc. I shouldnt have ordered appetizers because this burger was huge! Onion rings were really crispy too! Highly recommend if you like burgers

2022-03-28What can I say? Except you should add #SonOfThurman to your dining options. Not a strong enough plea here!Would you like to sit at a cabana-styled bar - two of them even - something like you would find at Grand Turk. Or, Hudsons of Hilton Head! For family dining head into the spacious adjacent room with many booth seating options and Knights of the Round Table!Jayla was our Server. It was our first-time experience. Let me tell you; these are more than burgers and fries. The chef prepares you a MASTERPIECE for your palate! We decided to pay the $2.99 extra to split a meal. Except, Linda wanted onion rings. Smiling warmly, Jayla says no problem! When the two plates for our lunch arrived? The burger was pleasantly divided on the two plates. But, whoa! The onion rings were 5-inches around. And, cooked to a golden brown! My fries were the kind you see at Cedar Point - only B E T T E R. Zi spritzed a little vinegar on those bad boys. And, YUMMDont forget to leave Jayla no less than $5. And, if you are at her table over an hour, add more dollars for tying up the table! Jayla is really there for you. Enjoy! Tell them that Keith sent you.Psalm 100

2022-05-13Bring your appetite, these burgers are big but great! I had their signature “Thurmanator” and could barely eat half at the time but finished it off later for dinner. The fries were excellent too!

2022-04-09Amazing big burger with bacon. Cant ever go wrong with bacon! Deep fried pickle chips were the best chips Ive had...the was actually pickle in there instead of being gone from being sliced too thin. Waitress was nice and not too much.

2021-09-03Pretty darn solid food and this locations quality, taste, and portion sizes mirrors that of the legacy cafe and bar established in German Village in 1942, still family owned and operated - The Thurman Cafe. Beautiful location in Sunbury, offering the mainstay burger, The Thurmanator. I got the Johnny Burger and my pops got the S.O.T. Italian Sub and both dishes were awesome. Fries were fresh and plentiful and the onion rings were everything you could ask for. Service was great, it looked like they were a little shorthanded but they still were attentive and kind. Will be back, and as someone who lived in German Village for 3 years and frequented the original location, this place has it all, including the eclectic signed dollar bills patrons post on the wall!

2022-01-18I knew before coming here for the first time that this place serves up some pretty big hamburgers and from my experience that usually translates to sub-par flavor but I was not disappointed.I ordered the mushroom burger and was surprised that it wasnt just a bland chunk of ground beef but rather it was seasoned pretty well. It came with a generous amount of toppings and was cooked perfectly. They come standard with chips but I opted for the fries and really enjoyed them. Theyre in-between shoestring and steak fry size but theyre nicely seasoned and salted.

2021-04-21Drinks are flowing, atmosphere is lively and upbeat, and food is cooked to perfection! Burgers are enormous so come here with your appetite intact! Fries are even good! There is outdoor dining(weather permitting). Bathrooms are not clearly marked for the visually impaired. If the place was more packed it would be a challenge with a cane or a wheelchair.
