My husband was transferred from Akron City to Select and spent almost three weeks there. The care was awesome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, that included everyone from nursing through housekeeping and even the security guards at the front desk. When you continue to return each day after day the personnel becomes your family. I would not hesitate to recommend Select to anyone I know. Thank you so much.
My mother’s ruby ring was taken & during covid safer visits. I did not like seeing how the nurse aids talked or treated these sweet elderly patients. My family member was talked down to & came home is worse pain. I also was conflicted by what one nurse aid said about my mother’s views whilst having delirium. The patient next to my mom had to be hurting bc they jammed her foot under the wheelchair. I would highly suggest you never putting anyone or anything in this “hospital” I reported my mother’s heirloom ring missing ( mom never took it off ) I wouldn’t give this place .2 stars ever. I will be investing why my mother said she was in incredible pain each visit & phone call. They couldn’t treat my mother as a decent human being. I will fight for my mother’s horrible end. Shame on this disgusting place that couldn’t feed nor medicate my loved one properly. They now are in Heaven all bc of the poor care at this filthy “hospital” & justice will come one day.
I came here from Akron General Hospital on Feb 14 and I have been very happy with the care I received here.The people here are exceptional and I can’t thank them enough for all they did for me.I would like to make a special note of appreciation to the Mike, Deanna and Tamika. These nurses aids were outstanding, full of compassion and always came in with a smile on their face to help me. I would also like to highlight Dallas from PT because he too was extremely helpful and full of compassion.I can’t say enough good things about this place. Thank you all.
Unhappy enough to leave 10 days early after stressing concerns about medicine for anxiety for weeks now. Kitchen staff has been rude,they are lazy, and now after them getting caught lieing to me because they dont want to do something extra or fix a mistake. Im afraid to eat the food because of there unprofessional behavior, rudely hanging up on me, and never letting me talk to there superior. I have talked to chief of complaints and he acted very quickly to address my concerns. Not yet addressed but if addressed my suggestion is to complain very quickly to the right person. I been complaining to Dr.s and staff here for weeks before getting to this point. Its a very clean hospital, nurses and staff have been very kind to me and understanding considering my out bursts of anxiety that continued to not be addressed was not their fault. Kitchen staff I believe needs more supervision.first shift nurse supervisor Bryan was very helpful and Tomeka nurses aid treated me like family and worked harder for me then anyone.
My name is Joe Jagiela just came to Select Specialty in Akron from Akron City. I was on life support. They sent me here for rehabilation and being in many hospitals in the past this facility has the best nurses and therapy available. The staff here is awesome. I have been in many hospitals in the past with weight loss and here I was put on a strict diet and lost over 100lbs within the 32 days I have been here. I have gotten my mobility back which I have struggled with my entire life. The nurses make you feel like family. I am not good with names but will never forget Kathy from PT and Toni from OT as well. They gave me my life back and I am getting to go home a new person. This place was awesome. All of you ROCK.
I absolutely didn’t want to come here to begin with but now that it’s almost time to go, I absolutely don’t want to go! I have had a good experience here. I had a rough start but there has been staff that have helped me along the way. Phyllis was my favorite nurse we seemed to bond right away. She went above and beyond her duties as a nurse helping me to be comfortable and even helped me to download Pinterest so that I had something to do with my time. Michael,Geneva & Tina was great nurses aides they helped me to laugh and stay in good spirits while here. Dallas+Mandy+many others with physical therapy helped me to walk again plus I was able to go outside with the help of a doctors order, Nathan with infectious disease & ultrasound so I only had to be poked once, Dr.Esterle was just so kind and treated me like I was human, she welcomed me and gave me great support,Dr.Connie & Dr.Peachtris with pain management helped me through dealing with my addiction and pain. Wanda Knight with housekeeping helped to keep my room cleaned daily. I had one not so great nurse who didn’t do her rounds or give me my medication on time, she would tell me and my family that she would be right in but she lied, for 2 hours I waited patiently in pain after having to ask numerous times.So it worries me because what about the patients in here that can’t speak for themselves? If she can’t be kind, compassionate, or caring to patients why be a nurse? She’s getting paid to be disrespectful, showing no empathy & to ignore her patients, while other nurses love their job who try to go above and beyond but have to make up for bad nurses like her. That just isn’t right.So to all the other staff I appreciate u all! Thank everyone who helped with my care! My husband was there for 13 days and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone!!! He lost weight and they wanted to put on a feeding tube. When they we’re giving him physical therapy they left him in a chair and left the room to get a belt and he fell out while unattended. He was given a cat scan ( I hope at there expense). I brought him home after that. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Came here with a friend suffering from a paralysis disorder who transferred in around 8 p.m. from another regional acute care facility. The staff were warm, considerate, took every opportunity to both smooth the way for my suffering friend but also answer questions from her and her family. The overnight staff were so responsive and humane that I very nearly wept. Their attention to details remained spot on during her stay and their willingness to talk through care plans and the rationale behind them makes them stand out, in my medical experience. A marvelous group of people.
10/10 do NOT recommend! They take forever to answer call lights, sometimes though and turn your call light off so they don’t have to come in. Some of the staff are kind of rude an make inappropriate comments, also the staff is very disrespectful and apparently they enjoy violating HIPPA as a fun way to pass time I guess. This was my first time being a patient here and I absolutely will never return even if my life depended on it, I would be SURE to make it to another hospital!!!
This is an edit to my earlier review. Administration came to talk to me and took my concerns about not sleeping very seriously. I am getting a new room, away from the noise so I will hopefully be able to better rest at night. In addition to them taking my needs seriously, I have also received a visit from a psychiatrist who is helping to get me back on my right medications. The nurses and techs havery been very patient with me, even when I was acting out due to my anxiety attacks. I retract my earlier statements and am incredibly pleased with how this situation has been resolved.This place is awful. The are mentally torturing patients by keeping them up for days at a time. I havent slept in five nights because they keep me up. I am supposed to be here to heal and yet I am kept awake every night. Ive asked on multiple occasions for my room to be moved only to be ignored every time. This is by far the worst facility Ive ever spent time in. Keep your family away if you care at all about them.
My mom has been there for almost 4 months. The nurses never give up on her and everyone was so caring. I really got to know the nurses and mary lou the nursing director even the wonderful security guards. Thank you everyone for taking such good care of her..special thanks to dr.patel, sam, amy ,levan, anita, lori, ellen ,toni, dallas ,mike, nate, scott, many respitory therapists , amber, sarah cherlonda,dianne, kelly, laura ,lynn, robyne, teri, mark, danielle, kesha,marc, zipporah, nikki, janine..you guys alway make my mom smile and give her hope each and everyday!! Thank you for being with her and holding her hand when i cant be there. I truly love all of you and you all will always hold a special place in my ❤.
I came to Select Specialty Hospital from Akron City Hospital. This is one of the best care facilities I have ever been in and believe me I have had a lot surgeries 17 to be exact. Tomeka is one of the best aides I have ever had. All the nurses have been terrific too. The food is wonderful. Dallas from PT takes me for nice walks everyday and it doesnt hurt that he is good lookin’ too! I just want to thank every one associated with Select care for what they have done for me.
What a roller coaster ride,, My husband leaving icu from Cleveland Clinic, to Select Specialty Hospital in Akron. I was so happy that my husband would be closer to me ,. But nervous,...not knowing what Select Hospital was all about. I am thankful for the staff, SO MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE. And this place is above, and beyond, CLEAN 🤗 I would like to recognize and highlight the following people who made my stay here amazing. The RNs Laura Brooks and Paige Wilson were exceptional. The NA s Michael Marshall and Jasmika Reed were amazing. Mellisa Chorip from PT was also outstanding. S.T. Rae was fantastic as well.
My father recovered here after a stroke. While the care was great, he seems to have absorbed too much of The Sopranos while recovering. AS such, he went in as an engineer and came out thinking he was a retired mob boss. If theyd played Batman reruns instead, Id give 5 stars!
My name is Paula Seaver and I came to Select Specialty Hospital in Akron from the Cleveland Clinic. It’s is a great place because it has an atmosphere that makes you feel like family. Everybody gave that extra care that you need that you dont always get in the bigger hospitals. Meli and Toni from the rehab team were outstanding..The CNA’S were very helpful as well.When I first arrived I had a a tube everywhere and now I am leaving to go to rehab with tubes no where.I am so thankful for all the care that I received here..
Select Hospital let me lay in my own vomit for 8 hours, shrugging at what to do. I asked for a phone to call out to my family for help but they kept ignoring me. They couldnt get my NG tube to suction and stated its impossible to vomit with an NGT. It took them 3+ hours to give me pain medication threw IV as the ICU nurses didnt seem to know how to use an IV pump. I was off TPM for 7 hours for the same reason and fluids as well. When I asked for help the nurses shrugged and left the room. In my request i was transported back to City Hospital where they had all my equipment working within 20 minutes of entering the room. I wouldnt trust these people with a dog, let alone me or a family member. It delayed my recovery by at least 3 weeks
This place is amazing the staff is awesome .... Doctors are here 24/7 so if you have any issues they will address them for you. Also they have wonderful nurses and CNAs that really care and take the very best care of you. The entire staff is very good at listening to all your needs and what ever else you may need....So if you need to be anywhere for your recovery this is the place to be.Tami a patient here
As an employee at another local rehab facility, Ive been impressed with the professionalism, honesty and dedication shown by everyone at Select Specialty during my husbands time here. We appreciate the top of the line care and communication by all staff. Thank you for all the support during this challenging time
I would like to thank everyone at Select. If I had to do this all over and knew about this place before —-I would have come here after getting out of the hospital with pnuemonia the first time..I have been in and out of the hospital many times and I feel that Select has done the best job.The people here are kind, understanding and push you to your goals.I am especially thankful for Meli and Toni from the rehab team. They encouraged me every day especially Meli.
A wonderful and a very clean facility. A family member of mine was in this hospital for over a week and was treated by a very kind, compassionate and efficient staff, who provided her with the utmost professional care. The staff was so kind to her and to her family. They went above and beyond in making circumstances easier on the family as well. I would highly recommend this facility for a person needing this type of speciality care.

My mom was sent there because they had higher ratings than others. Those must be faked. I am convinced of their medical negligence as they ran out the 21 day insurance clock. So much for “Do no harm.”
I transferred from Akron City Hospital to Select Specialty where I spent the next 3 weeks on the road to recovery. During my time there, I found the staff friendly, helpful, respectful, and competent (thank you Sarah from speech, Yolanda, Don, Ion, & all those whose names I dont recall). Thank you Select.
My experience here has been warm and friendly. Everybody has been compassionate and helpful. Occupational and respiratory therapists are very considerate in helping me recover.
Changed my life, staff extremely supportive.aids are kind and the best physical therapy it changed my life from not walking to now walking. The best food (my opinion) and the cleanest place.. Seriously reconsider nurseing homes and try select. It will change ur life to....michelle day/tonkin
I enjoyed my stay at Select hospital very much and would highly recommend it. The people are so nice and they are always willing to help me with anything I need. I hope I don’t have to go back to the hospital again, but if I do I will try to get them to send me back here.
Awful place full of hate, esp for those that need fulltime care.. they neglect the care of their patients and push their strengths to the fullest and not in a positive way.. they make it out to seem like patients are just imagining things or hallucinating things from the medicine when its not always the case at all. these are real incidents that happen when in fact it staff that chooses to do these cruel terrible violent acts in attempt to bring themselves some form of joy. I know this sounds crazy but i have really strong intuitions that this facility is soley to benifit money to be collected bc of incidents of bad misfortune that are sudden within the high number of ill patients that have nothing to loose in so many words.. they get off making the choice for the care and how it goes for each patient bc they torture and unnecessarily cause pain that can be easily avoided to take away the credibility of the patients. They are careless and mean. They uneducated staff they have employed carelessy removed staples that even a dog would know neyter then to remove that early to prove a poiny when a patient withdrew from their care. Hes now being treated elsewhere where only two days had proven him netter health. He is not hallucinating hes hapoy and not afraid of the ones hes suppose to rely on for help. He however has to have his stitches replaced bc the careless acts of your staff caused his amputation closure folds to burst causing him much pain. I have two specific names of the staff i will not let up on until they are held responsible for what theyve done.. i will not let this be pushed under the rug, these two people are wrong and abusing their power and im gna make sure they are placed at the end of the wrong they caused my close loved one to go through unnecessarily and pain id only hope these employess never ha e to imagine feeling.. SHAME ON YOUR FAULTY JUDGE OF CHARACTER FOR THOSE YOU SAY WILL DO ALL THEY CAN TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. Money creates greed. Even when its comes in the hands of those who have high authority. You will acvept what you are both responsible for doing unjustly. Id never even recommend this facility to even the dirties rats down in the rotting sewage drains if the needed any medical help. Id vaccinate myself with a needle full of battery acid before i was to sign in under any facility thats affiliated with the names Select in any manner. Sad shame.
Everybody here all deserves 5 stars but Yolanda the CNA - I would give more . She went above and beyond.I just want to thank everyone here at Select for the great care they gave. I am going home today— thanks to all of you
Great place -need to speed up on answering call lights. Annette the nurse and Sarah the speech therapist have been amazing. I would do this all over again if they took care of me.
I was there for 6 weeks, and in that time everyone there was great. They were there everytime i had a question whether it be about my medications or something else. I will recommend to people this place most deff. Everyone there were excellent, and i would deff go back if needed too.
Worse place ever! I wouldnt leave my dog in their care. If I had proof of them leaving my husband sit in poo for over 2 hrs, asking him what he needed over the com when he couldnt talk, taking his cellphone and tablet away from him when he kept calling me at home for help I would be a rich woman.
I’ve been at select specialty hospital for about 4-5 weeks and have been treated very well. It’s like the nurses know me personally and always make sure I’m comfortable and tookin care of
My father was there for a month everyday we visited the nurses would be gone for over 3 hours they also were not very nice or informative about anything he got moved and the next hospital told us his feet were very dirty I was not happy at all with select care in Akron
I learned that family is not just blood I met a lot of people who changed my life I had good days and bad days but it was always someone there to keep me focused they treat you like family I would like to thank all the nurses that put up with me I would like to thank house keeping I would like to thank the entire staff Special thanks to all the doctors .
I enjoy working with the physicians, leadership team and staff. A great group dedicated to patient care.

Staff was more than helpful and polite, they helped push you thru your recivery and was there to talk you thru your bad days and lift your spirits.
What a joke. Incompetent staff, rude, and liars. Would have better luck laying in the street to find more caring people. Unaware of an emergent situation when they see one.

2022-09-12There is very few workers doing their job. It is basically a death camp for those that cant speak or do for themselves. Sent a family member in to be rehabilitation and now he is stuck on a ventilator and kidney machine, due to neglect.

2021-12-06I wish I could give this facility a zero. Whatever you do- do not send your loved one here. I came from City hospital at their very high recommendation. I can’t believe that this facility is allowed to conduct business. It is what I imagine prison to be like. I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life. This is a second rate operation. The majority of the nursing staff is inept, rude, miserable and they aren’t capable of doing their jobs. It took them two hours to answer my call light last night and they withheld my medication that was three hours past due. I have a very detailed account of my brief four day stay of how I was treated (for my attorney) and last night was not an isolated incident. I am finally home and I will spread the word to anyone I know of my horrific experience there. May they be shut down. And may God protect the patients their that can’t speak for or defend themselves.

2021-12-15It was a Rocky start to my stay here but after we talked to some people about our concerns they were taken care of right away and the rest of my stay here was as good as it could go. Besides the care to my injury they worked with me on letting me see my dogs a few time and even let me hook up my PS4 so I had something to do all day. If you dont feel like youre getting the care you need, just speak up and your concerns will be addressed. Thanks again to Lisa, Andria, Jovanka and everyone else who made my stay here as comfortable as possible.

2021-09-03As a result from an ATV accident, our son was admitted to Select Specialty Hospital Akron location. There are no words to explain the care he received from housekeeping all the way up to the doctors and administration dept. The nursing staff, respiratory staff, and therapy staff are the best around and I mean they are phenomenal!! Everyone of them were not only professional with their job duties but went above and beyond to see that my husband and I were ok as well. They explained everything they were doing so to keep us up to speed. They treated our son with ultimate respect and made sure he was comfortable at all times. They became like family to us and that was the hard part when it was time to transition to his next phase of his rehab. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants the very best care for your loved one.

2021-08-03Edit: Administration responded quickly to my concerns and addressed the issues. I changed 1 star to 3 based on the last two weeks improvement. It was like a different place after my concerns were addressed but staff changes were also made, Therapy staff Sarah, Danny and Toni made a huge difference for the better. I just encourage administration to help staff better understand patient and family centered practices. The outcomes for patients will benefit.This a terrible facility. My husband has been there for four days. His basic needs (water, proper nutrition, cleanliness, risk of fall) have not been met, despite my pleas. The staff is demeaning, disrespectful and dismissive. As if it couldn’t get worse, when I made repeated reports of my concerns, I was ignored and then finally I was told they would complete an “angry man form” which is what they refer to the grievance process - just to demonstrate the culture of disrespect. The supervisory staff met my concerns with excuses and defensiveness. I am desperate for help as I am deeply concerned for his welfare.

2021-04-20The nurses and staff made you feel like family always encourage you to get better. They would always be checking with you to see if you needed anything and if you where alright.Food was excellent, they gave you a choice of 2 entrys for every meal witch was served hot.The doctors and nurses kept me and family informed as to what treatments where being done and what to expect.

2021-03-26My husband recently had two stays at Select. The first time he was transferred there he was in pretty bad shape and still needed more care than Select was equipped to provide. He was there for five days the first time and everyone was awesome. I called daily and they were always polite, encouraging and answered all my questions. He was there again a second time during the same illness for about 14 days and again they were thorough and supportive. They advocated for us, and coached us at times when it seemed that some doctors (at a different hospital) didnt or werent acting or treating him in accordance with our directives and simply wanted to send him back to the ER.The care he received at Select was top notch. I could not possibly say enough good about the staff and care that he received.

2021-03-26I was admitted to Select on two separate occasions but for the same illness event. The first time I was admitted to their ICU for 5 days as a transfer from Akron General during which time I was unconscious. Unfortunately at the time of my first stay, I had required more intensive care than Select was able to provide and I was then transferred to Akron City ICU (another great facility). While I can not speak specifically about my first stay at Select due to my incapacitation, my wife could not speak highly enough about the staff at Select, their quality of care, attention to detail and their advocacy. During my 8 week ordeal I was admitted to 4 different hospitals, one of which was not providing the level of care my wife asked for and demanded. She raved about how Selects staff was extremely helpful to her in in coaching her about our options and advocating on our behalf when some of the doctors at a different facility did not appear to be acting in our best interest or following our directives. Once ready, I was transferred from Akron City back to Select for a second say for about 14 days. During my second stay I soon realized why my wife was so pleased with Select. The staff was absolutely a pleasure to work with, professional, courteous and attentive to my every need and to every detail - almost with military-like precision. For those with negative reviews about Select, I sincerely wish you could have experienced the level of care and support that I received. My father passed away from the same illness just 3 days prior to my first admission to ER/ICU at a different facility. Its really hard to say due to his age, but, I am convinced that had we known about Select sooner and he had the opportunity to receive their care, that he might still be with us. I would like to give a special thank you to Mary Lou, Director of Care Management, and to my nursing staff, Gloria, Cindy, Jen, Lynn, Tomeka (Tomeka, you still owe me that Wendys ;) ), Heather, Micky, Kelly, Dominique, and Tina. And as well a special thank you to my OT/PT/SP staff Bonnie, Steven and Rae. For anyone I have missed, (I know there are a few) thank you all so much! I cant thank you enough for your part in my rapid recovery and wish I could shake your hand and thank each of you personally for your excellent care and for your attentiveness. Thank you for keeping my wife updated with my progress at frequent and regular intervals and for providing her with the candid, honest feedback she needed.Thank you all so very much!

2021-02-23If I could give zero stars I would. The staff is rude and not caring what so ever. My aunt went in after battling covid for 5 weeks. She was improving at the hospital she was at. Then she was moved to this place and 4 days later she was gone. If you can send your loved one to a different place I would in a heartbeat. After reading the other reviews, I wish we would have moved her some place else.

2021-05-26Select hospital in Akron gave our family hope. After a 3 week stay at another local hospital, my mom was given little to no hope. (Covid)We decided to transfer mom to Select specialty hospital. They successfully weaned her from the ventilator after 5 weeks of being on it. My mom will now be going into rehab so that we can bring her home. They provide physical, occupational, respiratory, and speech therapy as needed.Dont lose hope, advocate for your family. A special thanks to Dr. Patel. He was always kind and explained everything so well.
