We LOVE Sauder Village! There is so much to see and learn. Usually it is a pretty hands-on learning experience too, but due to Covid, it is less so right now. Hopefully things can go back to normal some day. It was still a WONDERFUL place to take the kids and enjoy a day together learning about the past and appreciating what we have now. ❤️ Highly recommend! You can pack a lunch or eat at one of the several delicious food options there.
We just visited here for the first time for my sons field trip, but it wont be our last visit. There was so much to see and do, we didnt have time to experience the half of it. Everything is so well taken care of, and theres so much to learn. If you have the chance, make sure you leave plenty of time to visit the pottery barn, it was definitely the highlight of our day. ☺
What a great place to take your family. They have very educated staff that both perform work as done in their time period and provide extensive information. They are able to answer most if not all your questions. So many activities for kids of all ages. Play cricket, sing songs at church, write with ink and feathers, play in cabins, paint rocks, milk a simulated cow, observe the animals, and be volunteers.Everything the staff make is available for sale. So many stations to visit (44ish) to learn and see how things were done back in the day.If you listen to the staff and take your time you can easily spend 5 hours there. There are shops with ice cream, snacks, coffee etc. There is also a restaurant available with a decent buffet.
This is an incredible place that show a lot of early American history and life from early settlers up to the 1920s. There is a ton of stuff to see and do throughout the entire village experience. There is even a train ride and buggy ride.I strongly encourge people of all ages to check it out. If the village isnt your thing, you can still book a vacation package at the Sauder Village Heritage Inn and enjoy a nice, relaxing time by the pool and/or hot tub. The Inn itself is an amazing place that is worth seeing. The pricing for entry to the Village is very reasonable, and most of the crafted items are for sale. From pottery to glassworks to candy and soap in the general store. Even if you dont buy a single item, the memories will last a lifetime.
My friend & I thoroughly enjoyed our day at Sauder Village. We stepped back into time three times while visiting the different areas of the village: Frontier, 1860s & 1920s. The actors who worked there were all very pleasant, knowledgeable & gracious answering all our questions. It is affordable & very clean. We got lost in the museum for over 2 hours because it is so comprehensive. We need to go back because one day just wasnt enough. Afterwards we ate dinner at The Barn (right there in Sauder Village). We totally enjoyed the buffet. The fried chicken, Sheppards pie & beef were our favorites. Its an easy drive from the Cleveland area. We liked it so much, weve been telling everyone about Sauder Village.
A beautiful day of historic pleasure. There are so many buildings to visit, we didnt get through it in the 3 hours we allotted. My 4-year-old was particularly fond of the animals and the train, but not engaged with the other activities at all. My 9-year-old was amazed by it all. My teenagers enjoyed it, too. Most of the guides were exceptionally friendly and eager to share a wealth of information about their space. Overall, an excellent day to spend in NW Ohio, and I look forward to returning when the little kids are bigger.
Loved the historical village and presentations for each of the places in the village. The presenters were knowledgeable and passionate about their specific area. Enjoyed watching the glass making workshop and the blacksmith, they are truly skilled artists. Great place for families, especially for younger children to learn about Ohio history. Also if visiting I highly recommend stopping by the cafe inside the village, loved the service and the chocolate was delicious.
Sauder village is a nice place to visit learn about local history from the last 150-200yrs. Just recently visited to check out the new 1920s main street. Very nice. All the costumed commentators are very interesting to listen to and are happy to answer any questions. Would highly recommend for those interested in learning about the history of northwest Ohio.
We visited because of the Smithsonian Maganize free museum day promotion. The atmosphere catered toward the younger audience (up to 12yrs), or those over 50. If you didnt bring a family, there is not much to keep your interest if the subject matter does not appeal to you.We had planned on spending six hours at the village, and were done in just under three. It is a nice tranquil place and the staff, volunteers and youth historians are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Some of the people you encountered acted out a part, and then broke character to answer questions...seemed a little off.Overall, a nice stroll to get your walking in for the day.
We went for the Christmas experience so most buildings were closed except for what was the town experience. Having done several of these history based experiences in the past it was basically more of the same. They certainly have the money to showcase very nice things which is what they did. Im sure if you look around you can get the same experience for far less money, we have many times.
This is a very popular attraction that centers around the way of life around 100 or so years ago. Lots of old building from that period have been relocated here and they are staffed with people knowledgeable on their purpose (woodshop, tinsmith, blacksmith, freight depo, general store, basket maker, barrel maker.... etc.). Its a great way to spend the day, but the price of admission is a little steep at $17.00/person. Still worth it for the occasional visit. Great staff and an abundance of historical pieces and special events keep this on our list of places to visit around once a year. Enjoy!
This is a great place to learn about pioneering skills important to the settlement of Northwest Ohio. See early craftsmanship skills used by those who settled this region along with period displays of preservation of actual homesteads, buildings & equipment from around the region. Family friendly !
A nice place to spend a day learning about the history of the area. They have a great collection of old buildings and antiques, and the staff does a nice job of interpretation, which helps bring the buildings and artifacts to life. Artisans using old-time crafts also do a wonderful job of teaching about the way things used to be done.
We had a great day Sauder Village , we visited the Gift shops and soda shops, ice cream and a bakery.. By far the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen and air conditioned.. The museum interactive displays are very informative. It reminds me of Greenfield village . very well done. I will highly recommend Sauder Village.
Such a lovely day. It was so interesting and informative. The village is beautifully maintained, so much to see and enjoy. The new 1920 section is very interesting, with a working theater and ice cream shop. The Barn restaurant had a delicious buffet. Would highly recommend enjoying a step back in time.
Great place steeped in history, each stop has a person knowledgeable on not only the history of the buildings but also the items in each stop. The whole 1900 city scape is amazing, my favorite was the silent movie theater and both of my kids loved the time machine train. If youre looking for a place to stay, they have a beautiful hotel and if youre into camping, they have a great campground on site. Dont forget to stop in at the old barn restaurant (sorry I forget the name) and an awesome bakery. I wish we had more time there, downside is everything closes on Sunday.
We camped with a group of vintage trailers just this weekend. Love this campground! Everything is organized, clean, and quiet. Staff couldnt be nicer! Bathrooms/showers exceptionally clean. I would like to see two more shade umbrellas to splash pad. Ice and wood can be purchased on honor system. The Village is outstanding!!! Loved everything about it! Informative, clean, creative, educational. The docents are very knowledgeable. Extra bonus was the vintage automobile show! Great display of cars/trucks/transportation. Family friendly!
Very interesting and educational tour. Fall is the perfect time of year to visit! Right around noon it gets a little disappointing with many of the buildings and the train etc shutting down for lunch break. Highly recommend a stop for a banana split at the 1920s Era ice cream parlor.
This amazing village offers an authentic peek into the amazing old-fashioned life. My favorite part was the old fashioned schoolhouse. Overall the village is amazing! It has an enormous museum, buggie rides, an incredible church, a team ride and lots of shops and crafting places you can visit.
A fascinating living history museum where you can see what life was like in the quaint village of Archbold over the past 150 years. Be sure and visit the Barn restaurant, as the buffet is unbelievably good. I highly recommend the breasted chicken, salad bar, and homemade salad dressing!
Really enjoyed our visit. Kiddos liked alot fo the farm experiences and the little train ride. We also stayed in the Sauder campground nice space between sites. Bathroom and Laundry very nice and clean. Splash pad the kiddos enjoyed but water could have been warmer was very cold.
My husband and I visited for the first time last week and really enjoyed it! The volunteers were so kind and very knowledgeable. I learned a lot while there, but also ate quite well! The Doughbox Bakery and Barn restaurant were amazing! Id definitely like to go back again someday!
We stayed a few hours longer than we planned, and we couldve stayed all day! Our family has been reading Laura Wilders series together, so it was neat to point out some examples of how she might have lived. There are so many fun activities and demonstrations, and I appreciated being able to buy food and snacks since we were on a lengthy road trip. I highly recommend visiting Sauder Village
Our family had a wonderful time at Sauder Village. We were there for close to 5 hours and still didnt see everything there was to see! Fun and educational for the whole family and the food at the restaurant is amazing as well! We will definitely be returning in the future!
Great place but has gone down some since the 80s/ early 90s. Wish it was as good as it was then. Train ride aint that great anymore and good luck getting lucky enough to get a buggy ride. Was there 4 hours and didnt see it once. Was there once before for about 4 hours and only seen it once. Prices of things are a little high too.
It was fun. At first when my wife said we were going, I was not that enthusiastic, but once there going into the old stores brought back fond memories of my grandfathers local store in north Toledo. Some of the display cases and items were just like his. The people there were very knowledgeable and kind. I was glad I went.
The staff does an excellent job bringing history to life! We learn something new every time!! The check in process was flawless too!! They had a separate line for members, so the lobby was not crowded with guests. Everyone was very compliant with masks and hand sanitizer too!!!
Had such a fun time. Very interesting. Its a place where it really feels like stepping back in time and history coming to life. The people all dress in period clothes and are very knowledgeable about the time, the place, the people, their professions and their lives. Really enjoyed the yummy treats at the soda shop, and all the handmade gifts available to purchase. My friend Sophia who works there actually made the broom I got a picture of, just the way they would have been made back in the day. I cant wait to go back!
I cant remember the last time I had been here, probably not since I was a kid on a schools field trip. It was a fun little trip to go back to and explore the old and the new exhibits. I think its definitely better for kids and family outings but it was a neat stop to check out as an adult and remember childhood nostalgia.
Had a wonderful experience! Started with delicious donuts from dough box ? Walked the original parte, then went to the 1920s area. Very impressive with the authenticity of every shop! The workers were very informative about each shop. Then ate dinner at the barn!! Best restaurant food I ate in along time!!. Dont change a thing?! Will be back next year!!
Quaint place to learn history and appreciate dedicated craftsman. Family friendly and awesome demonstrators. The train is especially fun for young and old. Everyone in the family can find something to enjoy during their time walking thru the stages of living history. Very clean and staff is very helpful as well as friendly.
Impossible to tell you all about this place...a living history village that is simply spectacular! So much too see/do, and the reenactors are excellent! My favorite was the 1920s Street - just..WOW! You WILL need ALL day for this, so plan accordingly, and it IS handicap accessible! Go have fun!
This place was okay with historical authenticity, but some of the buildings werent handicap accessible. Also major parts of the village were closed. It definitely wasnt worth the 18 dollar admission price. Also, the village is so spread out! Prepare to absolutely get your 20,000 steps in!
This place is great for all ages. if youre looking for something to do and want to learn a little bit of history about what it was like to live back over a hundred years ago this is a great place to experience that. From basket weaving to pottery they have live demonstration throughout the entire village. The train ride is fun it gives you a chance to see the entire village. Then I must not forget check out the doughbox bakery they have some pretty tasty treats and also a coffee shop. If youre hungry and looking for a meal check out The Barn restaurant, they run specials every day and when we were there ribs were the special and I must say they were some of the best tasting ribs Ive ever had. So if youre ever in northwest Ohio and looking for something to do definitely check this place out.
This is our fourth year visiting and it just keeps getting better each time. We have five children ages baby to 10 years of age and we all absolutely LOVE it! Such a wholesome and safe educational environment. Staff member Ryan did a fabulous job answering all of our questions about the farm animals. The two member horse and buggy team were phenomenal and did a great job explaining everything about horses and their gear. The garden shed is such a delight and so many interesting things to see and learn about. The kids learn so much and so do their parents! We drive almost 2 hours and it is so worth it. We have a family membership and feel it is definitely worth every penny. The Grime house and property is our favorite!
I was a volunteer for my granddaughters 4th grade class. We had 5 including me with our group. We went to so many different quaint little shops there and the kids bought a couple of things that were very nice. They had an old fashioned ice cream store and an Old Fashioned General Store. We would need a few more hours to see everything that we would like to see. This was a great experience!
So much fun and so many things to do. Had a groupon and 4 adults and 3 kids went for $30. The workers make everything very fun and interesting. My 3 year old had a blast shelling beans and mashing up corn. They have a super cute kids play house that my daughter didnt want to leave. So much fun for the entire family.
This place is great. My kids loved it! There is a wide variety of jobs being done (pottery, blacksmith, tinsmith, broom making, print shop, weaving, spinning, ice cream shop, quilters, museum, traders post, farm, etc). I found the staff knowledgeable about their topics. There is less hands on stuff than other comparable places but its still fun for everyone.
Living History for all to enjoy. Was with 3 generations, 8-77, and everyone enjoyed it and cant wait to go back in the spring. Many new things happening so more reasons to revisit. Favorites were the train ride (even in wheelchair), the animals, buggy ride and the barber shop.
We had a wonderful morning at Sauder Village. We came with 3 young children (2, 3 & 5 years). Thank you for making us feel safe during Covid. Families social distanced, the train was wiped down between riders & an empty seat spaced families apart. Our children loved the train and animals the most.Thank you very much.
I absolutely love the 1920s addition! I stayed at the awesome hotel and loved the pool. During this pandemic, I am glad they used precautions to keep it safe, while still keeping the same fun. I have stayed at the Campgrounds too, which has a nice park and splashpad for the kids, and everything about the park was great. While you can stay at the beautuful inn or campgrounds, it has a restored town full of buildings ect. of things from different time periods you can visit. The village is great fun to explore for those who like history. Plus, did I mention it has a pool in the hotel? You can make reservations for times to use the pool(because of the virus).
This is the fourth year we have visited the village. We always take advantage of the Country Getaway pkg which includes a stay at the inn, entrance to village, additional coupons to use throughout the village. We always getthe king size accessible room whichis spacious. It overlooked a beautiful courtyard. Very relaxing place to sit.The only problem is the location of controls in tub which is not easy to reach for someone in scooter and unable to stand. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was varied and good tasting. It is a great getaway for couples or family.
It was the worst $49 we spent. We realize that Covid is going on but buildings were closed. Staff was rude. We went because it was Apple week. No apples anywhere. You would think they would have an abundance of apple fritters, all sold out. It was very disappointing, I would not recommend and I won’t go back again.
Very nice place. Feels like a living museum. Each place has someone their to explain the historic significance. Horse and buggy ride was fun. Train was mostly fun but we were right below a speaker and it was loud enough that I had a headache from it by the time it was over. Very laid back place to spend a day.
We visited on a hot July Friday this year (2020). Sauder Village is a very well-done trip thru American history. I completely enjoyed the learning opportunity afforded by our walk thru, from early native American history to the 1920s. The staff, in period costume, were knowledgeable and friendly. Time here is time well-spent. Thank you!
I went for a special Christmas of the 1920s in the newest addition to Sauders Village. It was well put together with narrators at each shop/business along a 1920s Main St. Very entertaining and informative. I just wish there would of been the caroling that was promised in the event description
We were traveling across the country in our RV and just happened to stumble onto this place. We stayed in their campground for 3 days. The campground was lovely. They had a nice walking trail and a fish pond. They had tent sites, electric sites, and full hookups. The shower house was the cleanest Ive seen, and it was designed in a thoughtful manner. There was a splash pad for kids, a basketball hoop, a cornhole set up, a playground, etc. We even had access to the hotels indoor pool and hot tub.The first morning we went to their bakery and bought some delicious cinnamon rolls. We also bought admission to their historical village. What an amazing place! We spent 4 hours there, but could easily have spent an entire day! And they are adding to it!We had also noticed lots of people going into the Barn Restaurant everyday. We decided to try it. We had their lunch buffet and while the choices were somewhat limited, the food was amazing! There is also a huge Founders hall for events, and a large furniture store which is the original Sauder business. This is a must stop place. It can also be a destination on its own. We loved it!
The Heritage Inn was very nice. Large, comfortable room on 1st floor had private porch with chairs; good breakfast; large lobby & gathering areas with comfortable seating for groups, nice indoor pool and hot tub. Dinner at the Barn Restaurant was good. Enjoyed the historical village with knowledgeable docents and craftsmen explaining the various structures and professions. We visited the Village on Sunday when its only open from noon - 4. (Open Tues. through Saturday 10-4) Several artists/craftsmen houses/stores were not open: tinsmith, blacksmith, bakery, others?. The cafe in the visitor center was closed, so the only food available was in the ice cream shop (hot dogs), and the chocolate/coffee shop. The Barn Restaurant is only open for lunch Sundays. We did find a Moms Diner in Archbold open Sunday night (very good sandwiches and fries), but most (all?) other eateries were closed.I would go again, especially for one of their festivals, but probably not on Sunday. This seems like a great place to take kids for an interesting and educational visit.
A trip back into history. See how butter was churned, how ice cream was made, how glass was blown, and all before any modern technology. A fun and interactive experience with a cozy atmosphere and committed staff. We were there during the Fourth of July and watched a naturalization ceremony for over 50 people, which they do every year. A must see.
The artist were there to demonstrate their crafts and took time to answer questipns. So friendly . Ramps to get into the buildings. Took my 99 year old mother in a wheelchair. Absolutely fabulous day. Restaurant super. Bathroom easy to get in and out of. Handicap features everywhere.
This is a lovely place. I love history, and to see all the living history/ways they accomplished daily tasks is fascinating to me. It is very well worth the visit. The Barn is a spectacular place for dining....with a wonderful buffet, salad bar, and an array of choices from a menu that can be served directly to you by servers who are kind and gentle people. And the wood and architecture of The Barn is complete with the wood used in the original structure. Im a ban lover!...and so you MUST visit here on any trip to Archbold, or simply to make a visit to see it as a sole destinationl
We stayed at the campground which is very nice and clean we had a better stay this year then we did last year. Except the second morning they were out mowing and proceeded to mow the two campsite we were on. with the kids running around playing and I was out side cooking breakfast the mowed right up to the tent and camper and around the table I had the stove on with breakfast. They village is very neat wish it was more interactive and the stuff is very pricey. The barn restaurant Food was not that great we got the Buffet you got chicken, ham, mashed potatoes and salad to choose from cost us $94 for 2 adults and 6 kids ( 14, 7, 6, 5, 2 and 1). We purchased a membership that online was priced at $80 but we were charged $90. The splash pad and pool were nice.
Interesting place, just wish more of the buildings were open and staffed with actual craftsmen. We visited on a Sunday, but thats no excuse for closed buildings and staff that could not perform the actual crafts that the particular building was used for. We paid full price for admission and feel that we should get the full experience that weekday visitors get.
Great historical village to witness how people lived in various time periods. Also a nice museum on site with a decent amount of items from decades of old. A couple places to eat and train to ride across the village. I cant wait to go back after the construction of the new area is completed. Woohoo!!
Ive heard of Sauder Village for years but never went. What a great experience and walk through the past! We took our 6 year old Granddaughter and we all learned things. She was never bored. Priced very approximately and you will not break the bank. It is a destination but worth the trip!
The volunteers educational information is what brings to life these well kept Gems of our resent past. My favorite is the newly renovated Museum. I cant wait for Spring when they reopen, as they close during Ohio Winters. Please add this to your must visit sight, bring your lunch or enjoy their cozy restaurants
Sauder Village is an amazing experience! So much fun for the whole family!! Dont miss the world renowned artisans (glass blower, ceramics, blacksmith, tinsmith, etc.), train ride, farm animals, general store, ice cream parlor (wow its great!), The Barn Restaurant, historic museum and more!Plus they have special events, a hotel and camp ground. LOVE IT!!
What a blast we had at the village today!! Very educational and delightful! It made me want to learn how to make a broom and churn butter. My son decided he would like to learn to make a wooden bucket - become a Cooper. What a fanatic idea!! Sauder is really figuring out how to help people enjoy their history lessons!
Ive been going to Sauder Village every year or so since I was a kid. Its a great example of living history presented without bias.I do miss the full museum tour and the gunsmith, but, for whatever reason, the blacksmith, wood shop, glass shop, etc. are all just as entertaining for me as an adult as they were as a kid.
Like taking a step back in time! If planning to ride the train, horse drawn carriages, or shop at the gift shops, try to do so earlier in your visit. The lines can become unfavourable as closing time nears. Would definitely visit again... Things to do for all age levels!
Interested in American History...come to Sauder Village where histpry has been preserved to be enjoyed, to learn, and to grow from it...the collection is vast, barns, school house, livery, chicken coops, church, log home, a train station, jewelry store...and a lot moreAnd a cute train takes you around - it takes at least half a day to check this out in detail
This is an interesting place. Interpreters in the historic buildings are very knowledgable. The focus is on pre-industrial and early industrial era life and crafts. The buildings are very close together, which makes the walking less demanding. There is a strong connection between the buildings and the local area. The Native American and early settler exhibits are especially good.
I try to visit Sauder Village at least once a year. It is constantly changing for the better. There is something here for everyone. Step back into time to the old farming and Indian villages. There is a horse and carriage ride, an old General Store, the broom shop, two old churches, the glass blower, a quilt shop, and much much more. If you havent been here, I highly recommend it. Priced reasonably but tickets are always available on Groupon.
What a great place. Took me back to my childhood when I visited last. Well be coming back more often now for sure. Me and my fiance are members of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and I think we found a second place that meets our levels of historical excellence and we will be donating to Sauders as well.
Sauder Village is a great place to take the kids and it alsoa fun and educational for everyone. The grounds were well maintained and clean and the people that were in costume were friendly and well versed in the history and the way that things were done in the 1800s . Will look forward to coming back soon.

2021-08-24I can t say enough how awesome this campground is... everything is within walking distance. We were right across from the splash pad which my kids loved. The campground is quite with plenty to do. The sites are are large and the new section is all full hookup. The village was alot bigger than we thought and it pleasantly surprised us. We will most definitely will be coming back here again

2021-11-28Were sitting in the Pharmacy and Soda Fountain right now sharing a hot cocoa. It was snowing earlier but its just freezing rain now. This was really good tonight. We took a free horse drawn trolley ride which was a better choice versus the very cold metal seats of the train. This was an excellent trip tonight. We will be back , just in warmer weather. Great for the whole family. They even have wheelchairs you can borrow as well as golf carts bringing people down to the 1920s Main St we are right now.

2022-05-06My husband and I came when we were in 4th grade and this year we were able to attend with our 4th grader. It was so fun to relive memories with him and to see how things have stayed the same but also changed just ever so slightly!

2022-04-20Historical Sauder Village located in Archbold Ohio takes you back to the time Northwestern Ohio was settled. There are many time period displays with folks on hand to demonstrate and answer questions about the area’s origins along with the skills required to live in the 1800’s. The mill in the photograph is functional and provides product for sale and use in the village. If you’d like an overnight trip, there’s an inn along with restaurant and delicious bakery nearby.

2021-07-02My son and I stopped here on a whim. We ate at the restaurant and toured the Village. About 10 minutes into the Village, it started to pour. Continued for the next 2 hours. It was somewhat of a blessing as we had more 1 on 1 time with the actors/employees at each house/building learning all we could. We ended up getting a membership and cant wait to return with the rest of my family.
