RTA in other cities:
On Labor Day I came to downtown hub , as I arrived to the hub I realized that I had left my wallet at home ! Never the less I have Apple Pay on my phone!! I had asked a couple of the workers to help me purchase a tapp/ pay card” NO “ help ?? So a mother customer had downloaded the irider tapp/pay app to my phone how was I to know that you had to download an other app to pay off the phone !! Long story short I’m out thirty dollars !! And still purchased an additional ten on the app on my phone to ride the bus !!
RTA took away the main and basicaly only stop I and my neighbors could use to go anywhere , without having to take multiple busses and spend all day just to get groceries. I barely ride now unless I HAVE to go to the store. Compleet hassle and waste of what little money I have.
I recently bought a house in Dayton and noticed that there was a lot of litter accumulating around one of the nearby stops. I called Dayton RTA to explain the problem and requested that they install a trash can. They were very helpful and got a contractor out there to get the ball rolling that same day. Not only do they do an excellent job of getting the citizens of Dayton to where they need to be, but theyre doing their part to listen to the community and keep our city clean. Thanks guys!
Can definitely always use improvements. Is quite a bit better, since alot of the old drivers got dismissed. The new ones are doing quite well. Shelter areas suck, at the stops that have them. The ones that dont have them are even more horrible. The sheltered ones are not even cable of keeping out rain, or snow. Despite keeping people warm. And hardly any of the stops are not handicapped friendly.
Its RTA it is public transportation. Aw : public transportation where you see the highs and the lows of mankind. I sobering reminder that no matter how bad is go6 badge having summaries having a worse one. Bus drivers are nice and mindful of their Surroundings in and around the bus
The driver, in the morning, for route 17 acts as though he wants to be a correctional officer. His mask is rarely covering his nose. He goes through the route fast he has to make at least 2 pull-overs at stops to let the time catch up. His attitude dictates a job away from the public
I think a larger bus depot should have been built in the Downtown location, with the amount of people at the Wright Stop Plaza more thought should have been put into the size of this location. Not enough public restrooms and walkway is too narrow. It should be redesigned for a more comfortable experience.
Employees are always outside inside very accessible to ask questions about route times and schedules, if its something they dont know theyll find out for you immediately great customer service you almost always get a reply if theres ever a complaint to be made. They definitely have a few bad apples but all around I pray that place and they are over 7 days a week
I would probably be what they call a choice rider...I have a vehicle but choose the take the RTA where possible. I have been pretty impressed. Busses run on time, are clean, and the drivers are very nice. Never felt unsafe. The $4 day pass is a good value.I do wish that travel times could be reduced and frequency increased.
It is 96 degrees outside today and imagine how mad I am that I see my transfer come early and fly past me while Im walking to the stop. Let me reiterate, Its 96 degrees out on a Saturday. The next bus isnt for another hour. What is the point of buying a monthly pass when buses are never there when they should be? Now I have to Uber home and spend more unnecessary money so I dont get heatstroke. Unbelievable!
Clean, lots of benches, conveniently placed trash cans, available bathrooms, friendly staff and people placed to help you figure out what bus you need, prominently displayed and live bus arrival times, reasonably priced fares. Can be very cold during winter, but well lit; protected from rain and snow, but not wind.
I appreciate the fact that there is public transportation available when needed to get around the city. Especially since my car was totalled. But, I cannot say many good things about the majority of people who hang out at & around the bus hub, not to mention on the busses. Ive had many experiences where I have been harassed by bums, drug dealers, racist people, those with serious mental illness & young people who have nothing better to do. I used to be quite friendly to passersby, but Id rather keep to myself nowadays. Thats the best advice I can give someone having to ride the RTA. Ive even encountered the rudest bus drivers, & a couple of drivers have even asked me for my phone number. There are the good ones, who go out of their way to be kind & thoughtful. However, they are few and far between. Ive had two busses abruptly pass me by! I was told you have to make eye contact with the driver in order for them to let you on. This is the most absurd thing Ive heard. The truth is these types of bus drivers are rude & hateful, and misery loves company.
Most of the staff stay indoors to much. Thier is ALWAYS something happing outside and staff never around. If a bus is in the spot of the bus you are on you cannot get off which makes you miss your bus sometimes because the bus driver has to port in order for you to get off. The bus drivers talk to long when they switching out buses making you stand there and wait.. Many bus drivers wear thier uniforms any kind of way, shirts untucked mostly and like they slept in the uniform.. Many bus drivers dont enforce the rule about cellphone ear bud use but just keep driving. The drivers also dont spot check the buses for trash, ive went to work and 8 hours later coming home the same rappers, bottles still on the bus. The hub itself stinks, ALWAYS stinks and the bathrooms are HIDEOUS!! Ill walk to Sinclair, the Libary, Uno or the Ridbold building before i ever use the restrooms in the hub..
Usually dependable while the drivers are split in half when it comes to being friendly. I hate getting on the bus and saying hello and getting an evil stare in return. I wish it was mandatory to have a positive attitude while driving for the rta. I also understand that they deal with all types of people while on route so i give them some slack. I have met plenty of interesting good people while riding the buses. A 31 day pass is a smart investment if you plan to ride often.
For the most part they are reliable. As long as your at the bus stop an have fare youll get your ride. Ive also used Project mobility an have had great luck with them also. Only thing really concerns me is supposedly BED BUGS on the bus. Although they say they spray for bed bugs. I personally havent got one yet!! UPDATE : SOME OF THERE BUSES HAVING PLASTIC CHAIRS TO PREVENT SPREAD OF BEDBUGS!!!! VERY HELPFUL ALSO EASY TO STERILIZE/CLEAN 91% alc wipes or rubbing alcohol and just wipe your seat(extra precaution)
This hub has some good things going for it, like timely updates to bus schedules on digital kiosks for each route and trained staff present. But the space-saving design encourages pedestrian congestion, and the adjoining building is in need of updating and better restroom / dining facilities.
Most of the drivers and employees are helpful n engaging. I ride everyday, several times a day and the new text a bus has made riding A LOT easier! There are a few issues that the hub, downtown, needs to address... Restrooms always seem to have long waits and there are only 3. They also tend to be nasty. Avoid them if you can! Also please be aware that most middle and high schools use RTA to transport kids to and from schools. It seems that most of these kids are disrespectful and loud. Some can even be very confrontational.
I feel safe here. There is police everywhere as well as rta staff. The staff are always nice and veryhelpful. The cleanliness surprises me because there is so many people walking through constantly and its always clean. There are public restrooms and a smoking area. Also there is a phone store a convenient store and several good food counters. You can eat it there or tale it woth you
This Daytons famous downtown bus hub. There is always lots of people, many different kinds of people. The hub really clean most of the time except the bathrooms. The bathrooms are always filthy. A majority of the bus drivers a friendly and few of them need a another job. There is fast food inside the hub for a quick bite in between buses. Fried chicken is the best. $4 for an all day pass and $2 for the disabled Really cheap when considering gas prices. The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Auth.ority is in the heart of downtown Dayton.
Its ok... The city of Dayton needs to embrace the use of school buses and not dump the school kids off and make them the RTA responsibility every day! Its a hassle and its a headache I know many people that will not even go downtown to the hub During certain hours because of the kids from school and the disrespect and just the chaos!....
Trying to get around while depending on the bus system is horrendous! Cant stand or walk far most days makes riding the bus a must. But most stops seem to be arranged so far from the Cross streets that are nearby make it even more challenging. Depending on the phone to relay my position has proven to be a real problem. Looking at a schedule doesnt prove out to be much help. Maybe those working at the terminal are unfamiliar with the hassles associated with riding a bus.
Lots of friendly and skillful drivers. Very good coverage of urban and suburban Montgomery County. The August schedule and route changes really helped me personally. Excellent value for riders, especially with tokens or need based discounts. My complaints mostly come from problems beyond RTAs control. Underultilization of public transportation, especially in the heartland, has forced systems such as the RTA to greatly reduce the frequency buses run routes, and reduced coverage, as well. When I was little, buses ran every 20-30 minutes to suburbs and every 10-15 minutes closer to downtown. We never looked at time tables, just went to the stop. Now, if you miss your bus anywhere but the heaviest few routes, youre waiting 1-2 hours for the next one. I sure wish we could head back the other way. But thank you for all you do RTA staff and drivers.
Grasp your purse. Put your phone away. Check your wallet. Dont let ANYONE use your phone down here now matter how desperate they may seem. If you smoke be prepared for a flock of bums to decend on you like seagulls on a huge bucket of fresh cut fries with seasalt and vinegar at the boardwalk. Its a bad idea.
I do not own an automobile. The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority is my primary means of transportation. I enjoy riding the buses. I can almost always get where I am going using the buses. Oftentimes, I can get where I am going using more than one route, which is remarkably convenient! I feel safe utilizing the buses. And I believe the RTA does a really outstanding job!
Be careful in the hub. Management at RTA has decided to treat the place like a kindergarten playground. They are timing and interviewing riders in the public areas of the hub. It was insulting and irritating enough that I left and got my bus two stops down. If they are trying to reduce ridership, that coupled with the fare hikes should do it.
Its got way too many allivated roads an too fast speed limits most people there drive without car insurance an basic state liability an they dont enforce their own car insurance.laws so be careful if ya visit there cause if ur involved in a car crash ur most likely gonna find out the other guy was n o t insured ur strictly on ur own
Its getting better but you can tell the bus system isnt ran by anyone who actually rides or understands it. They have added a bunch of unnecessary stops to a lot of busses that make them go so much slower than they should. X5 for instance now added another 20 minutes to an EXPRESS route. Route 1 is also different now so if you work down col glenn you have to walk if the route at that given time is going up to the mall, when all they had to do is add a bus line rather than make one more confusing and difficult. They also should allow you to purchase a transfer and use that on any bus, ESPECIALLY one that goes the opposite direction so your not paying double the fair to go someplace, this is a rule that ive only found in Dayton and should be gone.
Ride along with my phone earlier today? Thank God I have asked you for money. were at a time when you are free to normal talk about this later today to discuss the details of my password account number and routing and account? There is someone to confusion about the program of the teenage kids hangout downtown
Riding bus 19 yesterday around the afternoon and the driver she was rude had both front seats put up made a passenger get up out of the seats after he put one of them down and instead of being nice about she got nasty with the person which was very unprofessional this is a first not happy with this
I personally got hurt falling of a bus because of neglected doing his job the bus driver and they didnt want to fix it with me there prices are too high and most employees not just bus drivers are so rude to the wrong people like people who dont give problems and easy on drug dealers and drug attics thats there
If you can get them to pick you up on time and customer service is terrible when you have to wait 45 minutes on phone to cancel a trip and they want to give you a no call no show and it is their fault, we think it is the drivers but it is actually the schedulers they do not know how to schedule rides for the customers and we take it out on drivers.
The buses are never on time the drivers are very rude the buses are downright dirty and stinky very nasty for public transportation Ive traveled all over the place between Boston and Key West Florida and even a New York the buses werent this nasty very disappointed in RTA

2022-06-19They are very helpful and most of the Drivers go above and beyond the call of duty, and they deserve appreciation more than they get, Thank you Rta and the hard work they have done.

2021-11-24Throughout the crudeness of some angels shine bright... Its getting cold and with Covid out here.. Its hit the transportation people too.. A lot overworked and overwhelmed, tensions do fly.. But the people placed in charge of the tension when flying are superb... They are willing to listen... Offer suggestions... And deal with problems in a professional way...

2022-04-24Good service. They need to bring back the cash system though because it was more dependable for the people trying to get to and from work.

2021-09-19Edward Curtis an employee or RTA kicked us out of the rta stop after their machine printed out a card that only had 3 dollars on it when we paid 20 and the card said lack of funds on the bus when we tried to board a bus we ended up missing because of the machines error. We not only missed our bus but were told we had to leave by police when we were unhappy about the experience. We didnt have a recepit but the fact that we couldnt board with a 3 dollar balance says it all when it comes to a technical error. Just wish we had been compensated for our inconvience instead of being punished for being upset about their lack of quality when it comes to being a proper functioning transit authority.
