Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel in Toledo

Hotel is in a great location if you have plans at the Huntington Center (we walked). Our room was a large corner room with a nice view of the river. Three suggestions: 1. There were four king-sized pillows on our bed, all of which were soft to the point of going flat when lying on them. Itd be nice to have a couple different types of pillows for those who need something more firm. 2. Our room had a little coffee maker but zero supplies for making coffee. We went down to the lobby to see if we could find coffee, and all that was available was coffee for purchase for $4 a cup. Coffee supplies in our room would have been nice so that we could have used the supplied coffee maker. 3. Very minor, but theres very little lighting in the bathroom, making it difficult to apply makeup I actually grabbed my mirror and stood by the window instead. Otherwise, this hotel is very nice and Id return!
Went here with wife and 2 young kids. We liked the idea of staying here for the view and because its next to imagination station. The room was underwhelming and it seems if someone is staying for the view the need the highest, corner room that has more glass for it to be worth the stay.We were on the 11th floor with a double queen room. The view was nice but the glass had moisture or humidity trapped inside. Either that or it was just dirty. The shower tub did not drain well and it made it hard to feel clean while taking a shower. This place seems like its for someone that values nightlife and being in a hotel near a close by office building. Like someone at a major company and just wants to stay downtown. Not the best 1 night family option.
We checked in on May 6 after booking online at a third-party site. When we arrived the room they offered us was not the suite we had booked. We were speaking to Maria and from the moment we arrived her demeanor was cold and she treated us as if we were a nuisance. She was unable to help us and literally shooed us away with her arm so that she could help someone else. The highest level employee available was Chris and she eventually filled him in on our problem. He proceeded to take a phone call unrelated to us. When he finished that phone call he once again offered the same room Maria had offered - a double room but not a suite. We once again explained that we had booked a suite and he asked for proof. We showed him and he said it was our fault for using a third-party site. We reminded him that the hotel had accepted the reservation and if it was a site they know misrepresents itself then they are in the wrong for accepting any reservation from them.Since no suites were available we said we would be fine with two regular rooms, adjoining if possible. He said “you want a free room?”. We once again explained we paid for a suite, there were no suites and we simply needed space for our party of three to sleep. He refused to do anything and then informed us about the beautiful rooftop bar and restaurant that was not accepting walk-ins at the time but maybe we could check it out next time.We received zero smiles or apologies and were basically told it was our fault. I get that customer service is stressful but we were not rude or angry and we were treated worse than I have ever experienced in any other “hospitality” venue.
If I could give 0 stars on their attentiveness, I would! I have a reservation tomorrow and Im trying to contact the hotel today with questions. I have been on hold 3 seperate times, for over 7+ minutes long each time! Apparently, the customer service or staff is lacking. To place someone on hold, then never answer the phone again is ridiculous, as I am a paying customer. Good thing this isnt an emergency, but its fine, because now I will address this issue, face to face, tomorrow! And leave this review! This is truly unacceptable!
Awful experience at the Renaissance Toledo Downtown, where do I begin. I paid for the room in points but they still asked for my card at check in and charged my card for the cash value anyways. Only after requesting a manager was I able to get the charge refunded.Fire alarm on Friday at 4pm and again on Sunday at 8am. Super loud in every room advising to evacuate building immediately down 8 flights of stairs. Both were false alarms. Attached video of what we woke up to.The tv would not turn off but instead only went to sleep with a bright black screen. Had to unplug it to shut it off, see photos.Called front desk Friday night for extra blankets because the room was very cold. Waited 30 minutes before giving up and walking downstairs where theres a single person working Friday night to ask again.Called front desk Saturday morning for clean towels. Waited 30 minutes before giving up and using the dirty ones from the night before. Towels never arrived.Rooftop bar at capacity and not allowing any more guests on Saturday night, they wouldnt even take my name down to wait for people, despite being open for another 2 hours still. No coffee or breakfast or really anything for free in the lobby, even though they have a coffee shop in the lobby that was closed the whole weekend. No free WiFi. No pool. No free parking. $250/night for all of this and view of the river.
For an older building, this place was not bad. The hotel is located in the heart of Toledo. It was clean, it was poorly staffed (not their fault). The view from the restaurant at the top of the building was very nice, but the food was mediocre. There weee a lot of choices on the menu, and the staff were helpful and kindI would stay here again I think.
The wife and I stayed over night April 30 to celebrate our anniversary and her birthday, I have to say that I was very impressed from the valets to the concierge, everyone was exceptionally professional Chris checked us in, and Maria checked us out, the room was beautiful well kept and very clean, definitely a must is a corner room stay, our view was Fantastic, we over looked the maumee river on the right side and overlooked downtown toledo out the left side. We will definitely stay again. Thanks to all the employees for a job well done....
Came in during the ice/snowpocalypse this past weekend for a friends birthday. Everyone was insanely lovely. The Heights restaurant and staff were absolutely topnotch every time we dined or had drinks. But one staff member will forever be our hero. We checked out this morning and loaded up the car in the parking garage and jumped in and the battery was dead. Sunday during a snow storm in a windy parking garage meant that there was no one around to help. We did some troubleshooting for a while before I walked down after seeing the hotel’s valet personnel in the parking lot below. Coleson came to the rescue in the BIGGEST way!! He immediately reached out to his coworkers for coverage and came up and took care of everything for us. People like Coleson are the reason Marriott is my hotel of choice and I am looking forward to coming back and exploring more of this city as soon as the snow melts. Thank you for everything, but especially for those special people that go above and beyond. The care and compassion does not stop at the door. See you soon!
Alright, here goes....This last weekend was the three year anniversary of my girlfriend and I getting together. We went to Toledo and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel close to Hollywood Casino. Everything seemed great until in the morning. When the sun was up, we held the comforter up and saw what you see in these photos. If its not held up in the light you cant see it. We were absolutely disgusted that we had just slept on that. We paid $250 for a corner kind on the 9th floor. Room 900 to be exact. The only thing more disgusting than the comforter was the customer service I recieved afterward. I was told by Brenda that she could take $20 off of the room and sign me up for the hotel rewards program. We dont frequent hotels often I explained and declined this offer. She then takes down my name number and email and says she will call me later and work it out. I never heard from her again. When I looked at my charge on my account the amount was for $343. I was never handed a receipt or any type of itemization for what I was being charged for. We were brushed under the rug and taken advantage of by this place on a trip that was special to us. Dont let this happen to you. Stay away from Renaissance Hotels. And if you do go to one. Remember, hold your comforter up to the sunlight of the window!
Currently laying in a bed at this hotel writing this review. I booked this online, while doing so, I was not informed that the parking was valet only. Once we pulled up at the hotel, we were told valet parking was $22 extra per night. There is another place that cost to park down the street but we could not get a straight answer from the front desk as to how much it was. It was late so we decided to do valet parking so we could go to bed . We called down to the front desk at 12 am so we could heat up our leftovers after we attended a late night concert because there is no microwaves in the room....the front desk told us it was too late to get a microwave and all she said was sorry . The bathrooms look nice but the way they are set up makes the water from the shower run under the sink. When I wiped it up with a towel. The towel was brown from the poor cleaning job prior. Not happy with my stay since I paid so much for the hotel.
My wife was in toledo for a business trip and needed a room at 830 pm last minute because the stay bridge suites in Maumee was disgusting and dirty. Being 4 his seat I decided to Google search hotels and came across the renaissance.. I called and told girl our situation. She was very professional and eager to help. She held a room for my wife until she arrived 20 minutes later. The girl was gorgeous. The rooms were extremely clean and just perfect. Then my wife informed me the renaissance offered her a $20 voucher to the hotel restaurant because she had a bad experience at another hotel! If we are ever in toledo, we will definitely stay at The Renaissance. Thank you for your hospitality!
Our checkin was at 3:00, and when we got there at 3:20 our room still wasn’t ready…we were told it would take 20ish minutes but no one was even cleaning the room so the manager got involved. Upon arrive in our room we were greeted with old potato salad in the fridge, 2 pills on the floor and a pair of glasses as well. When trying to settle down at night, there were no sheets our pillows for the pull out (mind you we are in a suite). We called down, and we were told in order to get service we must go to the front desk. They took about 10 minutes to get sheets, and then didn’t even bring a pillow and acted unconvinced to bring us one. Once they left it took so long to get that we ended up just going back upstairs without it. Then when making the bed we found a leaf in the sheets. Overall, I was no impressed with this hotel and all and will not be visiting back.
I was initially given an upgrade to a corner room. I asked if the suite upgrade was available. The front desk agent I chatted with initially was reluctant to grant the request unless I paid the difference. This urked me because I have stayed in this hotel many many times, am ambassador level Bonvoy member and it was available. I voiced my concerns with Erin when I checked in and within 30 minutes received a call that the upgrade request would be honored without any additional cost. I wouldve paid the difference but never have stayed in this hotel again. Thank you Erin for going the extra mile!
If I could post the pictures I would. We held our comforter up to the light and it was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Covered in mold stains and what looks to be bedbug remnants. When we complained, they did absolutely nothing to help us and acted like we were stupid by trying to say that the stains were “different colored feathers that had grouped together” like they couldn’t think of a better excuse. No refund and no offer for compensation. Terrible customer service, disgusting bedding. We told them we would be posting the pictures and leaving a review, and they said, and I quote “threatening me won’t motivate me to help you.” Will not ever be staying here again, but might be popping through with blown up images of our disgusting blankets to warn the people that will be staying there.
Absolutely the worst experience I’ve EVER had trying to make a reservation. They continually incorrectly assumed what I wanted, took my cc info 4 times blaming it on their computer system and then overcharged my card by a few hundred dollars. After this experience I will never stay there when there are other quality hotels in Toledo.
Tried parking by the front door to go inside and get a room for the night when I was whistled at and told that I couldnt park there, even after I asked if they had a handicapped parking space and showing them my placard. I didnt even get out of my old xhevy truck. I believe they thought that I was in the wrong side of town just by my vehicle. Thanks for nothing.
Clean, comfortable, quiet rooms. nice exercise room. Great food compared with usual hotels, even usual Marriotts! One thing kept me from rating it the highest- they are not enforcing the mask mandate for unvaccinated guests, and its particularly obvious when there are young children allowed by their parents to go into closed areas such as the elevator and the exercise room without masks.
Its a 2 star hotel with a 4 star view out of the corner of the window there isnt any vending machines no room service no mini bar I had to use the valet parking which I didnt know costs an extra almost $50 for the service on top of the $233 a night cost how this hotel got 4 stars I dont know.
BEWARE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY ITA NOT WORTH IT, we stayed there for 2 nights and Ill never do it again, hairs in the sink, bathroom, bath tub beds, the bathroom sink wouldnt drain properly no hot water at all, the mini fridge only stays on for 2 hrs at a time you have to push a bottom for it to be on, food crumbs Im the bedroom area. We told the manager about this and showed him pictures and all he would do is give us a 10% discount for one night and we stayed 2 and said he was sorry, they started having plumbing problems 1/22/22 and was, waiting for a plumber to come out supposedly, they have what they call a restaurant there and the menu is so small in items my hamster would laugh at it and its very expensive. We told the housekeeper and the cupcake wrapper in the living area she said she, would take care of it and she didnt we also told staff about it the next day at checkout and all they said was sorry to hear about that. Valet parking parks your vehicle outside and dont even clean it off from snow and ice. 532 dollars for 2 nights 44 of which was extra for the parking
The room and lobby were fine and up to date. The rooftop bar was gorgeous, reasonably priced, with quick, friendly service. However, the breakfast buffet was out of several items, and we were charged the full amount, nonetheless. Not worth $25 a person. Also, I stayed one night, but was charged for 3 nights. My refund will take 3-5 days, Im told. That is unacceptable to me, what if I was relying on that money for other needs?Nice location, but a disappointing stay.
Booked a block of rooms for a wedding. The sales department staff changed over every day. The people that work the front desk have no communication with sales. Needless to say they ruined what should have been an enjoyable and stress free stay at this hotel. Had names backwards in computer, told people that showed up they had no reservation. We tried to clarify issues weeks in advance. The sales staff never returned any calls. Physically had to drive to the hotel to talk to someone at the front desk. There computer could not see what sales had loaded in. Told us sales would call, reminded them thats why we were there, sales does not return phone calls. Do not book rooms at this hotel. Read the reviews, this is a common issue with multiple guest.. The place is poorly run and a lost cause. Rating is a minus 5!
Nice hotel overall. Great location. Valet parking only onsite only so be ready to pay $20 plus a day for that. Self park is location very close which is $5-7 a day might be better option of longer stays. Double check your receipt at checkout. Automatic charges added if you are using company card like restaurant and will take some time to resolve. Staff is polite but seems to have this billing issue arise a lot with customers- higher management most likely to practice tactics. Staff needs to be trained to go over entire receipt or ask if any questions for company card users. Since it’s company card many folks might not double check but would later see some charges like restaurant etc fraudulently added to stay. Not sure if this a regular practice with company card users but be vigilant during your stay. Restaurants customers using room number to pay should be verified for accuracy. Someone used our room number to have a fancy dinner. Thanks
Buyer Beware!! Booked so I could change or cancel my reservation as part of my rate. Called to update reservation and they couldn’t update my reservation because “that room type” wasn’t available. I only wanted to take off 2 nights of my stay and already had the room booked for the night I was asking for. Customer service refused to help and then hung up on me. Extremely poor service and absolutely lied about the rate options.
Renaissance Toledo is an amazing space to get married! This downtown Toledo wedding venue fits so many guests and has a space that can be transformed or kept simple. It looks beautiful each way and I love the little bits of Toledo history incorporated into the hotel. The suite to get ready features a large amount of windows overlooking the river and is a great spot for hanging a dress and wedding party photos. Youll love it here!
Very friendly staff and helpful, we were immediately treated like family. They gave us a map of the area, which was very helpful. Our room was very clean and extremely quiet. We had transportation issues on or second day, the front desk made a call and a taxi arrived immediately. This hotels location to the Mud Hens and surrounding restaurants and bars is amazing, in fact we already have reservations for September at the Renaissance Toledo!!!Also, we we’re only able to dine at The Heights, the views and food was delicious!!You will not be disappointed with your stay.
Worst wedding block experience. DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL FOR YOUR WEDDING!!! Complete incompetence at all levels with booking. Totally screwed up every reservation. We called, emailed and went to the hotel itself several times weeks prior to the event. Not one return call or email.. we had to purchase all rooms prior to the event because nobody would send the link for guests to book under and yet they wanted to charge us the amount for no one booking. Why? Because all 5 people we talked to quit. Names were backwards. No follow through with supposed fixes to the problem. Gift bags not handed out. Every guest told they did not have a room and were charged full price. I cant even begin with the complete idiocy of this hotel. For the cost of this place you would think they would at minimum purchase a decent computer program that would maybe communicate sales with the front desk. You cant get in touch with anyone at the actual hotel. And no shuttle service so forget that. Horrible Horrible Horrible. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone because quite frankly they would be taken for their money yet have no room to actually check into. I cannot stress enough DO NOT STAY HERE!!! AAAANNNDDDD....AT LEAST TWO ROOMS WERE NOT CLEANED PRIOR TO GUESTS CHECKING IN!!! Really?! Walking into a room with used personal items ,, old coffee cups, and bed linen?! Supposed to be the nicest hotel downtown Toledo. HA!
Have no complaints about room cleanliness and the bed was very comfortable. What really earns the 5 stars is our check in Friday night and also Saturday night. We arrived about 9:30pm on Friday night and needless to say it was absolutely packed. The parking in front was full of people, the lobby was full of people and it was a lot to handle. The valets were very well organized and helped us immediately, then inside the lobby we were checked in and on our way to our room within 5 minutes. We returned from our trip to cedar point Saturday night to find the hotel just packed again, once again the valet was quick and easy. If we return to Toledo or make another trip to Cedar Point, this is where we will be staying.
Very unimpressed with the gem of Toledo. Rooms are very average with a high dollar price. Breakfast buffet is $25 a person and terrible even the coffee. Did not make it to the bar on top so cant comment on that. Will not be going back. The employees are super friendly and the view of the Maumee River is nice but not worth the price.
For my wedding this past week, I used this hotel to accommodate my out-of-town guests and bridal party. I was extremely disappointed in just about everything. Reserving a block of rooms with a special group rate was the biggest money scam. I asked if I could pay for early check-in and was told to book a room the night before if I wanted to guarantee an earlier check-in time. One of my guests spent 45 minutes on the phone with the hotel staff just trying to book his room in our block. Another guest paid for an early check-in when she made her reservation, but when she arrived she was told it wouldn’t be ready for a couple of hours. Another one of my guests was charged twice (about $500 for one night), and they were told by the hotel that there’s nothing they can do. Another guest left something valuable behind in the bathroom, so we called the hotel within just a couple of hours of checking out to find out how we can get it back. They referred us to a website and said someone should be in contact with us within 2 days, but we still haven’t heard anything after 6. The room that my husband and I stayed in had a very bad leak in the window. The towels were hard and crusty. I don’t believe I got what I paid for, but I just want my family and friends refunded appropriately. I’ve left a few messages and sent multiple emails to the sales department who helped us get everything set up, and have received no response. The heights is a good place to hang out and eat but don’t waste your money on a room at the Renaissance.
On Wednesday June 30th, we set out to stay at the Renaissance for our 1 year anniversary. As I was trying to make it special, upon arrival I asked Erin at the front desk for a room on a high floor so that we would have a view. She accommodated us greatly, and we loved our room on the 9th floor. She was so enthusiastic by our anniversary that she gave us 2 complimentary drink vouchers which we took advantage of at The Heights. Alexis was our bartender and did a superb job. She made a couple of amazing cocktails, and even had blue cheese stuffed olives for my martini. Even though we were going to Mancys for dinner, we still ordered the pickle brined chicken wings per Alexis recommendation, so that we could enjoy them the next day, and they were delicious. After dinner, we returned to the hotel to change, as then we were heading to the Mudhens game. I called the concierge to see about transportation to the game, and we ended up taking the T-car which was so much fun. Ive been in the industry for over 20 years and I have to say that what made it an amazing stay was the staff taking so much interest in our special day, and tending to all the little intricacies that make for true hospitality. The only thing that could have maybe used tweaking was the valet situation. However I chalk that up to being situational, and they were probably just excessively busy. But even they inquired about what we were up to that evening. Amazing service, and a truly memorable experience. Thank you to everyone, and we will see you soon!!
If I am being charged above average prices, I expect an above average experience. What I got was very average. Bed was comfortable, water pressure in shower was decent, and the view was nice, but overall the room was very overpriced for a pretty standard room. Was surprised there wasnt even a mini fridge. Elevator was very loud and could be heard clearly from the room at all hours. Was not informed ahead of time of construction which would have been nice for navigation purposes upon arrival. Was told when booking that we would have access to the club lounge, then were informed after check-in that is was closed. There was a lack of flexibility in booking, and we were required to reserve a minimum two night stay. Also, the restaurant staff at the Heights was unaccommodating and uninformative as to why we couldnt join our family for breakfast. Some of the food people ordered looked pretty good, but I paid over $15 for a waffle that was very dry and served with no butter or cream to combat that dryness. Disappointing. If I am paying that much for a hotel room, I expect the quality and service to be exceptional, and it wasnt. I also expect my fresh towels not to have holes and be falling apart. I have paid half as much for much better experiences.
Stayed here on 10/20 in room 912 . Stayed here based on the downton location. Positives include location, heights roof top bar. Cons include small room size and valet only parking . I had an issue with the periscope reading light couldnt be turned off due to a broken light switch. I didnt notice this until I tried to turn the lights out for bed at 11:00 pm. I had to cover the light with one of the pillows which partially blocked the light . When I brought this to the attention of the front desk while checking out no offers for maybe a free breakfast or take off the valet parking to offset my inconvenience of trying to fall asleep with a light on.I find it hard to believe that the light wasnt noticed during previous maid service in room 912 . For $220/ night the management needs to do a better job on room inspection before checking guests in to rooms with problems.
They place was nice the smaller rooms are ok.... the bigger rooms are nice but could be nicer for the **mn price...other than that the place is a wonderful spot to vacation and see amazing sites you wont see in other buildings around town...the restaurant upstairs is decent but very small menu the restaurant downstairs is quite over priced but its tatsed good...over all this IS A HOPPING SPOT FOR A GOOD VEIW!!!!!!we go twice to maybe 3 times a year for a local get away!!! Being a bonvoy member has its perks if they have available rooms to upgrade!!
Checking in they realized I was on low floor next to elevator….my only 2 requests (in my profile) are high floor and NOT next to or near elevator/ice machines. I.E. q quiet room. She worked feverishly Alford about 7-8 minutes and found a room that fit my requests. It made foe a great stay. Plus the view of the river was fabulous. Very clean room with nice amenities for work and quiet sleep.
It was a horrible experience especially from a 4 star hotel. No communication at the front desk of check out times or anything about the hotel. My additional towels were delivered in a trash bag. The rooms were dirty and definetly not the 4 star standard River View I paid for. The windows were white, foggy, dirty and crusty. Looked like the seals of the windows were broken in both rooms and I couldnt enjoy my River views. The front desk said I could get dinner at 942pm when I called the front desk, and they explained dinner ends at 10pm. I went up to the restaurant at 945pm and was told the kitchen was closed. I had 3 children to feed. After begging we were rushed to get food. Next day we got food from the breakfast cart and the bagels tasted like mold and the only answer I received was we got them 2 days ago. When I called to inquire where the cleaning service was I find out that I was supposed to request it days in advance, which was not told when I called to tell the hotel I will be checking in late.I called to speak to Craig about my experience and left him a message and never heard back from him. I just stayed at the Hilton in Columbus and had a wonderful experience. Why the difference at a Marriott a town over!?Finally there was some service and an apology at checkout from Vanessa, which should have been given upon arrival and throughout the stay. If you want clients to stay service is always key in the hospitality industry.
I came to this hotel after seeing lovely pictures of this great roof top restuarant from explore Ohio. Everything about the experience was horrible. We drove from Cleveland just to experience this. The staff told us we couldnt transfer from the bar to outside however we noticed a large party who did that once we were in the waiting area. We were told by the hotel we could make reservations and to call back when they opened only to be told we couldnt. The couch was ripped and peeling. The ambiance was not appealing. The view was very nice. The staff was not knowledgable. We were beyond disappointed. The room toilet didnt work. The next morning housekeeping knocked on our door at 10, 10:30 and 11 am when check is at 12pm all the while blasting music down the hall. Our didnt have an ice bucket and only came with one cup. Once going downstairs to ask for one it took over 30 mins for him to return with the cups (coffee cups at that) and the ice bucket. You dont expect these things from a Renaissance Hotel. I will not be returning.
This is a perfectly serviceable hotel. Our room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (especially after driving 6 hours!), amenities were sufficient, covid precautions were satisfactory, the receptionist was friendly, the valets were prompt and attentive. We’re sorry we missed the lunch and dinner offerings there as breakfast was pretty basic, but we were in a hurry to get back on the road. If you’re stopping in Toledo, this is a good and safe place!
Staff is wonderful - have to put that out there first. However, we had a lot of issues this time around (and we love Marriott hotels!). Our room for our Mothers Day getaway for which we paid extra (large, corner room, river view, Club Lounge access, king bed) did not have club lounge access (apparently due to Covid?) and there was a terrible intermittent grinding noise that shook the room. The room was not supplied with coffee cups, creamer, etc. or an adequate number of towels for two. We asked to switch to a quieter room and we were moved to a smaller room (losing that which we paid for). Again, the staff was wonderful and worked to get things taken care of but obviously, we did not receive what we thought we paid for.
When we had first arrived to our room, we noticed the beautiful view of the river and loved the size of the room! Later at night we needed help with a large vent cover that had completely fell off, but the maintenance was not staffed. We also noticed a large amount of trash left in the pull out sofa bed from previous customers. Beautiful room, I just wish it was cleaned better.
Rooms were very very small. Door in bathroom hit the toilet the bathroom was so small. Room was not very clean but the bed was clean and comfy. Smoke detectors went off when we showered. Valet lost our car twice. First time they misplaced it the bride was late for her wedding rehearsal due to the incident. Wasn’t the worst hotel ever, but did not meet the expectations I had from the other Renaissance Hotels I have visited.
In all honesty, not great. We attended a wedding reception with a cocktail hour before entering the dining hall. The bar was closed abruptly when the dining hall doors were opened and guests were not permitted to get a drink for dinner. Water was on the table and was served room temperature with no water refills until after the dinner was complete. The beef was served very dry as well. Not impressed.
Not nearly first rate. We stayed at at this property several years ago and were excited to see the upgrades. We had many out of town guests and were totally embarrassed. Wedding bags were given to wrong people. Two of three elevators were “having issues”. Air conditioning was not working. Room was not clean. Food and bar service were closed at ten on a Friday night. Unbelievable! Even given Covid19 staff was not up to snuff. Their attitude was somewhere between aloof and rudely phony. With three wedding groups on a weekend why would there be no management on duty? Unfortunately reinforced idea that Toledo is second rate.
No status recognition at all for Titanium Elite, was not thanked for loyalty and breakfast perk was not available for weekdays. Redeemed a suite night award and received confirmation of upgrade availability but this was not recognized by the hotel and we received a standard room. The room itself was extremely dirty, with stains on the carpet and holes/fraying on all of the bathroom towels. The only good thing was that our reservation was for a single night and not a longer stay.
The location and front desk staff were the best part of this stay as well as the comfort of the bed. As far as the accomodations, it truly needs some work! The room was subpar: coffee ring on table means no covid19 cleaning was done, upholstery needs cleaning, plaster hanging/peeling around windows, no microwave in room, coffee maker with no coffee or cups, had to constantly request wash cloth and towel replacements, rooms are small, hallways and front entrance doors need cleaning and rooms were not serviced on Sunday (???). Fortunately I came prepared with my own covid19 cleaning supplies. Bottomline, room is not worth the money!
We were expecting a nice stay especially for a Renaissance hotel. However it was not up to par, the coffee kiosk was closed all Memorial Day weekend which limited breakfast options as the hotel restaurants didn’t have early hours or breakfast hours at all. Our room wasn’t overly clean as we found leftover coins, tags from the last stay and our daughter cleaned dust off the furniture. There was also an elevator spill that didn’t appear to be cleaned up all weekend. We didn’t realize we needed to put any room request 24 hours in advance as we ran out of towels for 4 people as only 2 was provided... thought asking for 2 towels wouldn’t need this but staff didn’t directly let me know. Upon arrival this was not communicated outside of a paper that was maybe on a desk. The restaurants were adequate and the gym was very nice and the hotel had a good location but overall I was expecting a lot more especially at the rate paid a lower tier hotel would have been much better.
This was the worst stay I have ever had at a Marriott. There was no hot water, the ac in the rooms would not allow the temperature below 74 degrees, the shower door was broken, and we were missing amenities in our room. If you tried to get through to the front desk for assistance you were just put on hold and never got to speak with anyone. The hotel was sold out for the weekend and most of the time they only had one elevator running that could fit a max of 6-8 people if you were pressed against each other, so much for social distancing. The elevator lines were ridiculous and there were not available stairs to take from the lobby up. It was impossible to get a drink at the bar. There were three weddings at the hotel that weekend. The bar staff told us they were underprepared and that they were too busy to serve us drinks. I have never had a bartender anywhere treat me as rude as we were treated. The hotel knew it was sold out, they knew there were three weddings there, but they still chose to be understaffed and to turn off all of the elevators but one. It was absolutely horrendous!
The second time I have stayed here and again the experience was exceptional. The staff is efficient, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. The rooms are model, clean and comfortable. I would absolutely recommend staying at this hotel. Great views of downtown Toledo. Location is nice proximity to many things. Valet service is awesome and efficient
We have stayed at this hotel before and returned because the location is convenient and we have had a good experience in the past. Although our room was large and updated (bathroom is pretty small), there was hair in multiple places in the room (including in the bed - gross) and it looked like the housekeeping staff either didnt service the room or spent as little time as possible doing so.In addition, there was extensive water damage to the ceiling tiles (approx. 4 of them) in the room, that just looked gross. When we approached the front desk staff on our way out (we stayed one night) they told us there really wasnt anything they could do, since we were already checking out. When my husband pressed, the front desk clerk told him he could email maintenance to let them know, but then moved onto the next customer. Not at all how I would expect to be treated as a Platinum Elite member and a MVC owner. Service and food at the restaurant (The Heights) was average to above-average.
We love staying at the Renaissance in downtown Cincinnati, but not the one in downtown Toledo because of the price. The Toledo room is smaller than Cincinnati, the towel rack in the bathroom was rusty, and there was not trash can in the bathroom. Thank goodness we asked a valet where we could park (parking garage diagonal to the hotel). Paid $8 for overnight parking there instead of the $22 for valet parking. The pros: we could walk to the 5/3 Field for the Mud Hens game. The bed was comfy and the a/c worked very well. Front desk staff was very friendly. But next time we are in Toledo, we will stay somewhere else.
I understand COVID has us all scrambling, but a number of areas were pretty large letdowns at my recent stay.I had a wedding event with guests encouraged to stay at the Renaissance. We struggled to contact the sales office to have a room block, so opted to just let everyone book on their own accord after multiple voicemails and failed call backs. We should’ve taken this as the first sign to poor communication. We thought this was a great place to stay, as we could head to the Heights after our reception with those still wanting to spend time together. We were surprised to find out the Heights closes at 10pm on Saturdays. I’m not sure why a rooftop bar would close so early on a Saturday. We then decided we’d grab breakfast in the morning with a few others. We had booked ourselves a suite with club lounge access. Upon arriving to the hotel we were informed the lounge was closed and were instead provided breakfast vouchers. When we headed down for breakfast the next day, signs indicated breakfast had been moved from the lobby to the top floor. After going up to the top floor and finding it securely locked up at 830am, we inquired with the receptionist where to find breakfast. That is when we were told breakfast didn’t even BEGIN until 10am. Finally, we had a car taking us to the airport the next morning. There was a race going on that no one had mentioned during any of our conversations with the hotel or during checkin. Our car service ended up having to walk 5 blocks to assist us with luggage, as they were not permitted to drive up to the hotel.COVID has definitely changed a lot, but the hotel could at least indicate to guests when standard, expected services/hours have been impacted so we can adjust plans accordingly. I don’t expect to come back any time soon, nor recommend this hotel to anyone.
While I commend the staff that keeps the rooms clean, the valet, and front desk staff, the management of this hotel has truly gone down hill. I booked a block for my wedding hopping that my friends and family would have a safe place to sleep and not have to drive after drinking. within the span of 10 months there were 3 different sales associates that i was in touch with because they simply cannot keep their staff on the sales side. I signed a contract that made me responsible for at least 75% of the cost of the block if i didnt fill it however on the night of my wedding, they turned 3 of my family members away from rooms they had set aside 10 months in advance because they had overbooked the hotel. The funny thing is that they told them they were having maintenance issues and thats why the rooms were not available. So the next day we had to have family drive 30 minutes away to go pick them up so they could go get their cars. Another guest was double charged for their room. For being one of the most luxurious hotels in toledo, management definitely does not live up to what they promise to deliver. The funny thing is that, had my guests not checked in, their credit cards would have still been charged for those rooms that they would have never been able to deliver...what a business.
I would do 0 stars if possible. Booked a room for a wedding with more than 6 months in advance. I do a virtual check in. When I get to the hotel after the wedding they say there is no room available because of a plumbing problem and have to move me to a different hotel just down the street hotel is 15 min away (highway) in another city, when I get to the other hotel the people there tell me the other hotel has just been overbooking and this has happened all past days.Edit: I do not know why this person Craig. replied stating about walk-ins. This hotel was booked over 6 months ago and Check in was done virtually in the morning.
Very dissatisfied, I was given a free two night stay bye the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, From the moment I checked in I was treated poorly as if my kind(black people) wasnt welcome there. Valet was even rude and nasty telling me that there would be a $22.00 charge to park my vehicle, the front desk receptionist was very unwelcoming, my room was so basic (glad it was free) the Hotel was very overated. My bathroom was so small that it was uncomfortable Im like what is this a closet space! I had dirty pillow cases on my bed that were flipped over on the clean side, I had to be wait six hours just to have my room cleaned with clean linen and towels, I had to walk the halls to find someone to direct me on where I could throw away trash at. I went up to the Heights thinking it would be a better experience and once again I was very disappointed..... Never greated, I had to approach the staff with questions and force them acknowledge me... once my order was finally taken other patrionts started to arrive they were treated so much better they were offered seating, menus, and offered to wait at the bar until theyre food was ready! Maybe It was because It was free they chose to treat me poorly maybe Hollywood Casino should rethink this free giveaway not a good experience at all shame on them!
The staff and the front desk and valet were friendly and helpful. My room wasnt as clean as I would have hoped. I always clean the toilet and spray the bed whenever I stay in hotels. In the bathroom I noticed a pill on the ground which I tossed in the trash and whenever I lifted the toilet seat I noticed what looked like dried urine. I did not report it to the hotel staff since I was already cleaning the toilet anyhow and to be honest I didnt feel like gathering all of my belongings and moving to another room. But I expect more from such a nice hotel and for the price that I paid.
This hotel has the potential to be a good place to stay. They need to do a better job staffing and with cleanliness and maintenance. They could also do a few updates to make it a little more modern and make sure the hot water works and provide some amenities. But as is the hotel is way too pricey for what you get. When discussed concerns with the staff nothing was done to make it any better. It seemed as if the complaints were the norm and had no interest in customer satisfaction. The review would’ve probably been better if they would’ve been at least some attempt to make it bad stay better.
Concierge not open, no breakfast until 10 , one of 2 restaurants closed, room service limited, regular upstairs dining: only pizza available at 3 pm then regular menu later. Great corner room view of river. Too soft bed- we had to flip it - I know some of this due to Covid, but very expensive “concierge” level room with none of the amenities one would expect, which SHOULD have been posted clearly before about food options/ availability- especially when traveling with small kids who are up early and wanted lunch at 1-2 pm…. - very disappointing, and we have stayed there before. :-(
The recent stay was peaceful compared to our last visit, which was quite uncomfortable. The rooms and staff were pleasant during our recent stay.As for ratings, we were never able to utilize the rooftop restaurant, The Heights which was our main reason for booking our stay. The front desk had one employee that stood out amongst the others. Her name is Erin from front desk staff, she went above her normal duties to make the stay more enjoyable....thank you Erin.As for the next visit to Toledo, our stay will not be at this property due to inconsistencies of performance.Last mention is the coffee center in lobby ends too early, it should be available during the day as well. Therefore our rating is a 2, but Erin moved it up to a 5.Erin should receive a letter for her outstanding attention.
Erin checked us in and we were whisked away to our rooms. We had three rooms since we brought multiple family members for a birthday weekend. The rooms are appointed nicely- but could use a deep cleaning. By the nightstand on the floor there was dust/wrappers/God knows what from prior stays. One of our rooms has burn marks on the nightstand from someone smoking in and another room smelled smoked in. A little disappointed in regard to that. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms clean and spacious. The area is great for views and the hotel restaurant offers an amazing view. The Valet team did a great job considering the lot was filled in front of the hotel and the snow that fell overnight. They hustle as quickly as humanly possible to get everyone moving as soon as possible. The Renaissance Toledo is always one of our picks for a good stay.
Pro: Rooms were nicely decorated. Beds were comfortable. Friendly staff.Con: Mold in the shower several areas. Hair that was not from my group hanging from the shower. Check in online for 1pm and called to confirm. Told to come in when we arrived from out of state we were told the room was not ready and would be by 3pm. We left to get food 10-15 minutes later we received a call that the room was ready. Wish we would have known so we did have to unpack the luggage again. We would have just waited in the lobby.
This place was very swanky. Wish they would explain the whole Jeep explosion 9f decorations. Also they not only do not offer a Jeep owners discount they will actually roll their eyes when you ask. Also they do not offer discounts for three feet between two people nor a good eyes no glasses discount. Over all the bar was very nice, the lobby was amazing. We sprung for a suite which was money well spent. Great place great experience. Have been back since.
Toledo was a midpoint in a longer trip I was making, and I needed a place to overnight. Due to traffic I arrived at nearly 2AM, but both the valet and front desk staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The room decor has great little nods to the industrial origins of the city, and the river views are wonderful! 100% will stay here again if my travels bring me to Toledo.
From the moment we arrived on property, from valet, the Front desk, bartenders, servers, concierge level staff were The most Friendly , knowledgeable abd just fun to be around, the rooftop Halloweenwaz one of the most fun we have been to, Including Miami and LA parties. Location is the Best, Beautiful well appointed rooms and delicious food, we Will be back, Fun weekend Getaway!
The first leg of my trip I based myself in Sylvania Ohio, and had a a below mediocre experience at it almost equally expensive hotel. That’s too long of a story go into and not point of this review. So, on a MUCH brighter note:I found this hotel online and off to downtown Toledo I went. Wow, what a great decision to stay at the Renaissance! The staff is amazingly competent and friendly, (yes Jamir@ the Front desk and yes Valets, I am looking at you!) My room was immaculate, spacious and boasted all the latest upgrades and amenities including walk-in shower, cordless power blackout shades, and HD TV. The rooftop bar and resto, called The Heights, overlooks Toledo and is beautiful.. The building is gorgeous with a beautiful lobby showing off the beauty of Toledo‘s famous glass artwork. I would never stay at another place in that area. Oh, did I mention the cappuccino in the Brim restaurant totally rocks?
Overall the experience was good. Great customer service. My biggest complaint has to be that at 10 am my wife and I took showers and the water was barely warm enough to finish. Also the food at the wedding was not what we expected. 2 small fingerling potatos, 2 pieces of asparagus, a very small dry bland piece of salmon and a small dry bland piece of chicken. You def need to sincerely look at the quality of food for events, especially a wedding. Im sure the price did not reflect the poor quality of the food. Just glad the rest of the events of their special day were able to over shadow the food served.
Stayed for a wedding and the rooms were split horribly. Front desk was no help , rude to bride and many others . Almost everyone’s car got broken into that used valet as well as just being left unlocked and ransacked through. Promised refunds on all wedding guests rooms and only some were refunded . For over 300$ A night this place is stealing peoples money . Also good luck trying to call the front desk they just don’t answer ever . Called over 20 times and waited over 30 minutes numerous times to just never get picked up on the other end . Horrible horrible customer service here
The staff was so amazing on every level. From valet parking, check-in, housekeeping, to customer service. We had a wedding party stay here and also get ready and everyone was extremely helpful. Thank you all so much. Definitely, a huge thank you to housekeeping on the fifth and seventh floor on Sat 3/6 for helping me get items between bride and grooms room when I was a solo task, they were extremely helpful and I wish I could recall the two nice ladies names to help me out. THANK YOU, you went above and beyond!
We stayed at this hotel for an event that was being held at the hotel. I would not normally pay this much for a hotel room but it was convenient for us because of the event. The elevators were noisy and shaky. The room was comfortable but could have been cleaner. There was some soap residue on shower fixtures which isnt a big deal until you pair it with the stained bath towels. There were only 2 towels and one was stained and naturally I didnt see the stain until I was finished with the shower. Im not a really particular person but stained towels are just unnacceptable especially at a higher prices hotel.
How much a hotel costs per night, and where, sets an expectation for services availability... Coming in on a Sunday afternoon to find none of the three food options open was a bit absurd. I get it, its a slow day, but having SOMETHING available, especially considering there is not much else in the immediate vicinity, is an amenity not necessarily a profit maker. Room was okay, but their idea of river view is apparently the river behind the giant building next door. Faucet was broken, functional at least. Sink did not drain and could hear gurgling when people above or maybe next door used theirs... all things said, not a Toledo $256 night for me, wont be back.Follow up: The response from the Hotel is as disappointing as the overall stay... its the kind of thing that says, I get paid to manage this, but have no willingness to manage it.
The main reason for choosing to stay at this place was because of the on-site restaurants. Neither was opened during my stay. The cost for the room was not work it without these amenities available. Also the bathroom did not have a vent/fan to help when taking a shower or using the restroom. The one good thing was the view of the river from the room was quite nice. just was mainly disappointed to find out the main reason for booking with them was not available during my stay.
Love my visits to the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel! While I am primarily visiting for business, I greatly enjoy the hospitality of the front desk staff, the valet, and those who work in the restaurants onsite. The environment is very welcoming, and the appreciation shown for loyal customers of both Marriott and this hotel in particular is greatly appreciated. I love the comfortable beds, clean rooms and nice views. I especially enjoy The Heights at the top of the hotel, when my schedule permits a visit. My only recommendation for improvement would be to add some level 2 destination chargers for guests with electric vehicles out front. There are almost always a couple Tesla’s or other EVs parked out front when I arrive. Most EV owners would be fine with a surcharge added to the cost of valet to wake up with a full charge in the morning. It would make travel much easier, but that aside the hotel and staff are fantastic!
Where to begin. We had a room block that was supposed to be together, It wasn’t. The room smelled like mold. The coffee pot didn’t work. The shower had a large glob of hair on the wall. I’m pretty sure the sheets where not clean. The window poured in water when it rained. I’d rate less than one if I could. Very poor experience.
Check in was friendly and informative. Hostess at The Heights on the Saturday we stayed there was very rude. She would not let me check the bar for open seats. Went back to the room, my wife immediately went down and walked straight to the bar and found numerous open seats. Bartenders were very friendly. That night the room next to us was very loud from midnight to 3:30am. I had to call the front desk and they said they were sending security, but the noise continued. You could smell them smoking too. Our room was nice and updated and clean.
We had a great corner room with a view (booked on purpose to enjoy a stay-cation from the kids and household doldrums), but several components of the room were not clean, which is incredibly disappointing and scary during COVID times. The restaurant was hit or miss -- my partners sandwich was great, but a lot of the menu items had surprise ingredients, which meant that myself (a vegan) couldnt really eat there. Unfortunately, we did not know that until *after* we ordered and the chef told the server (who didnt know?!) that the pizza crust has duck fat in it. By then, it was too late to go to another restaurant, as everything was closing.
The location is great--nice view and close to everything in the city. The happy hour at the bar is also decent, and the staff are friendly enough. However, the room quality and size are just ok, and the cost is way too much for what youre getting. $300 for a Saturday night plus $22 in parking is ridiculous--Ive paid less for a Shangri La in downtown Sydney. In addition, there were no hangars in my room, which is unacceptable in a business/event-oriented hotel. I asked for some and it took over an hour to get any.
The hotel was clean and upkeep was fair. However, additional services were poor or non-existent. There is no food available in the hotel or nearby until the upstairs restaurant opens for lunch at 10am. When we tried to order outside food delivery, the front desk would not bring us silverware. When trying to call the front desk for basic amenities like a hair dryer, which was not available in the room, the phone rang with no pickup for an hour, the front desk was unresponsive.
A beautiful hotel, everything is absolutely beautifully decorated. The staff are excellent. The decor of the hotel greatly represents the city that its located in, with its many art installations and actual local artists used to decorate the hotel. The restaurants are some of the best Ive seen, very cool yet elegant design. As well as the rooftop patio overlooking the river, thats just awesome. I dont know about the food quality as I didnt eat there, however the atmosphere is out of this world.I rate this hotel on my highest recommended recommendation of recommendations, an absolute must go to hotel if you want to experience awesomeness.
Absolutely an AMAZING experience !!!!The room was amazing !They offer valet car parking which was free to my knowledge, ( I tipped when I left. )The resteraunt high up in the hotel made some pretty amazing food ! It was a great place to bring my girlfriend for a date before we had to leave the next morning. We were traveling from the east coast to the Midwest and only stayed 1 night but it was the best experience Ive ever had in any hotel ! The day we left I turned to my girlfriend and told her, I wish we could have stayed for a week !That one night cost about $150 and the dinner was around $80 for the both of us but it was worth every penny !!Truly an amazing experience, and for sure the best hotel Ive ever stayed in.Air conditioned room, beautiful view of the water channel ( from a high level floor )Big tvAmazing bed !!!!The shower was different in the sense that it had a bench and glass sliding doors.( Not something i was used to or expecting but I was VERY surprised )If youre planning on going to a hotel to sleep, vacation in or relax I highly suggest this one :)
I wouldnt do it again....This was suppose to be an awesome wedding weekend however thanks to no hot water the night before and the day of the ceremony we had to take turns going to a friends to bath before my sisters big day. And for our awesome inconvince I was given 30 bucks. Barely more than valet for one day. There was no microwaves in our rooms which we had 8 rooms rented over this weekend. The concierge room was closed and the main floor restaurant and the summit was another no go. For this to be a 4 star hotel I certainly didnt feel it and if we travel back to TOLEDO will definitely be at another hotel I hear new ones are in the same area.
When I first walked into the hotel to check in I approached one of the ladies at the front desk who was talking amongst each other and I stated I was here to check in and she said oh I didn’t know as though she was shocked. The heights also didn’t give me all my food then when I got my pizza it was burnt but I wasn’t going up a third time. Lastly upon check out I was billed all charges including charges from the heights on the room receipt despite myself and my sister charging this charges to two different cards while at the heights. Oh not to mention the day of check out there was some type of a announcement that stated an emergency and to leave the building; so we left the room a hour or so early. For the cost this has literally been the worst hotel experience. Renaissance has typically been a pleasure but not in Toledo.
The staff at the hotel was awesome! Very accommodating and kind, even going out of their way to help! They are five stars!! The food and the staff in the restaurant however, were not. We ended up having to order and pick up our food later....it was cold, burnt, and didnt taste very good. The chicken was tough/over cooked and I couldnt eat it. The lemonade tasted great, but not work $3.00, not was the can of Pepsi that cost $3.00. The hostess was not very nice, even rude at times when I asked a question. Such a bummer, as I heard good things about the roof top restaurant. It was very disappointing.
Very nice establishment but I see room for growth.. first of all, Upon check in, they gave me a king bed room when I booked a double, so we had to come back down stairs with all our things for that!..before that the clerk didnt articulate that the room key operates the elevator, another customer showed us this.. so embarrassing-- first time experience....then the parking... valet is cool but the parking garage is down the street!! I suggest you make a map for customers seeing that the valet guys did their best to explain how to get to the garage entrance... also explain what the color code circles in the parking garage mean?? I just hope my car is still there in the morning... basically check in was stressful! Not worth the cost besides walking distance access to everything downtown..
When we checked in our room was not clean. None of the outlets in our room worked except two in the bathroom. The only lights that worked were in the bathroom and the entry way. There was a layer of dust on the phone that prevented me from finding the right button to push to report the issue. After reporting that I saw a bug on the headboard of one of the beds. My sister pulled back the sheets and discovered another one. Called the front desk who said their manager would call me. A few minutes later she called and downplayed the issue. She moved our room, which gave us a slightly better view. There was no rush on the ladys part to bring us the keys and not even a discount for the issue. When I come back to town, Ill definitely look for a better hotel in the area.
The room smelled horrible! Water on the bathroom floor (as if someone used the bathroom and then no one cleaned it). The latch lock on the inside of the room is broken. Old coffee grounds found inside the coffee maker. This hotel was remodeled in the last four years and I was surprise at how the room was u kept, smelled and overall dirty. The positives: great rooftop bar and very friendly service
We stayed 1 night over valentine’s weekend and everything started out amazing. Our room was beautiful, that is until we looked out the window and found what looked to be mildew under the wallpaper surrounding it. Maintenance was sent to our room and he stated, “ the window looked like it had been leaking for awhile and he was gratefulwe found it”. He cleaned the sill and sprayed with bleach to “ kill” the mildew/mold. After he left we had paint chips all over our floor by the window. We were initially told we could not be moved due to the hotel being at full capacity. Then the front desk called and said they had found us another room. We were very appreciative. I know things can get missed but I can’t fathom how no one else cleaning the room prior had noticed this. However, the hotel staff handled the situation very well. We checked out today at 10am. My husband had left our valet card in our first room from the previous night. The gentleman at the valet desk said since we didn’t have our card he would need the color, make, and model so he could send someone to search for our car. He said he was not able to use either of our names to locate.....WHAT?! Mind you he never asked for the license plate number, how many white nissan maximas are in that garage? How would he know it was ours? We took matters back into our own hands and asked the hotel staff to send someone to find the valet card in our room, they did! Finally at 10:49 our car was brought up.... I hate to think how long we would’ve sat without them finding our tag. The valet service appeared to be ran by teenage boys who were just old enough to drive.... they definitely need to be taught the same customer service etiquette as the hotel staff. We LOVE the heights and it NEVER disappoints, I wish we could say the same for the hotel. Again many kudos to your hotel staff for doing everything they could to make us comfortable! If I could give the valet negative stars on this review I would, much room for improvement.
Hotel it self was clean & nice. Didnt get my bottled water that was supposed to come with being a Marriott Bonvoy member. Didnt have room service or access to the Club even though the website stated they were available. My room charge included the Club Level Lounge & with it being closed, my charge was supposed to be adjusted. Never happen. I called & was told a Manager would contact me. Its been weeks & Im still waiting.
We visited Toledo for an evening and stayed here. Hotel staff was very kind and helpful. Hotel was clean and convenient. The water didnt get warm in the morning so we complained and they compensated us. They said the water had to be reset. However, I was pleased they were accommodating and they said they would look at the problem so we could return to their establishment again, which we definitely would! Recommend this hotel!
THEY OVERBOOK.I had booked my room 8 months IN ADVANCE, AND DID MY CHECK IN ONLINE.Last weekend we celebrate my friends wedding, I was a bridesmaid btw. They let us know that they overbooked when we arrived after the party about 11pm. They had to send us to a different hotel 20 minutes from the place, I was with the brothers of the bride, of course nobody in the family is happy about this since WE BOOKED the hotel 8 MONTHS in ADVANCE.The other hotel was a very humble one (if you compaired with this one).We had to called for them to pick us up to take us to back the reinassance to get our cars and made us wait about 30mins for a driver.Im not going back.
We came to this hotel for a wedding on site and were pleasantly surprised how beautiful it is! The wedding reception area is large and nicely decorated, and the food was delicious. There appeared to be several different fun things going on in the lobby for hotel guests, but we were unable to participate due to the wedding. Our room had a great view of both the city and the river, was spacious, and very clean. I was pleased with the water pressure in the shower! My 2 year old loved looking out of the windows at the different views of the city.As a platinum elite member, we enjoyed the concierge lounge on site, both for some bottles of water after the wedding and for breakfast the next morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was good. I particularly liked the French toast casserole!
We stayed at the renaissance for almost 2 weeks so we got a sense of the good, the ok, and the great.Good: rooms and service. Rooms are nice but nowhere to put your clothes. Service we got was great when we were proactive; however we were not verbally told the valet was $22/day.The ok: Food - the restaurant on the top floor has some tasty items if you choose wisely, and probably best enjoyed dining in.The great: location and views - right on the water and our room had view of the river
The hotel was very clean. Parking is crazy as you must use valet and it requires a fair amount of time in and out. Check in was easy. Rooms have a refrigerator but no microwave. We requested a microwave in advance but were only given one the second day. Rooms are nice but very small. Very little options in terms of dining.
Not worth the price. Definitely not a 4 star quality. I requested a higher floor during my reservation a week in advance. I was told it wasn’t available at check in. There was dust on the tables and bathroom. I was charged additional $50 during check in and was not given any explanation. I had to call the front desk to find out what the charge was.
I booked at this hotel for a wedding and my room wasn’t ready at the time of the wedding so I was late to the ceremony. I had to get ready in the lobby! Unacceptable. And the valet left my car running for hours with the windows down. I was just lucky nothing got stolen.
While trying to a book a stay here for a wedding I called to get the block rate. Week 1: called twice and was put through to 2 peoples voicemails -- neither called me back. Then week 2: I called and the phone number on their site didnt work and went straight to a busy/out of service tone. I guess I wont be staying here since I cannot get ahold of anyone. Its unfortunate because I usually enjoy Marriott hotels quite a bit.
The hotel experience overall was average but I would not stay again. The hotel is beautiful inside and has lots of great features but they still have room for improvement. During our visit the street in front of the hotel entrance was under construction which made getting into the hotel confusing and frustrating. Nothing the hotel can do about road construction however, they could call reservations that are checking in each day and let them know and give them information on how to get it. Would have saved us about 15 minutes and would have made it a stress free process getting there. Next you must valet. Which is frustrating and it is EXPENSIVE! If you are going to require all guests to valet at least make it affordable. The rooftop bar seems like an awesome place to hangout and grab brunch or have a few cocktails during the day but they sited COVID guidelines saying no one was allowed on the outside patio even though there was another group sitting out there being served. Completely frustrating as a guest to hear that you can’t sit out there with a party of 2 yet we can see a group out there. Again, if it is truly guidelines to sit outside nothing the hotel can do but the situation could have been handled differently. Lastly, and the most frustrating thing to happen was after a night on the town we return to the hotel only to not be able to get into our room. The battery had died on our door and our key would not work. We sat in the hotel lobby for about an hour to an hour and a half waiting for maintenance to fix it. Again, not entirely the hotels fault because who really knows when batteries will die. But you should have someone on staff at night to handle that. Also, if you did monthly or bimonthly battery checks on the door you may be able to prevent a guest from this experience. Again, overall an average stay but I would not stay again.
We had a great weekend of sleeping in and gambling. We are going to return this summer also-hopefully the construction is completed. The riverfront is nice for running and a lot of nice restaurants within walking distance.Only wish there was a shuttle to the casino because Uber, Lyft and taxis seem to be nonexistent!
Id give this place 5 stars but unfortunately when we arrived in our room the bottle of water that they provide (and charge $5 for btw) was almost empty. We called the front desk immediately because I didnt want them to charge me for a water I didnt drink, let alone one I could go purchase myself for half or less of the price plus we had brought our own water. The front desk told me everything was all good and that shed make a note so we werent charged. 2 days after we left I noticed they still charged my card for it. At that point I wasnt going to call and make a fuss over $5 but they should really check their rooms better. Makes me wonder what else in the room wasnt checked before booking it out. I expect more from a marriot.
My wife and I were in town for the night for her birthday. I booked a room at the Renaissance and I strongly regret it after a miserable stay. The front desk receptionist was not friendly or helpful and our room was small and we had no hot water to take a shower. We have stayed at much nicer hotels for less money. I would not stay at this hotel in the future and I will certainly tell friends and family to avoid this place
My room wouldn’t get cold when I would adjust the temp. Called down for silverware and they told me they were out and I had to go to the restaurant upstairs myself and ask. The towels has a funny scent and the valet charged my bf for him to park his motorcycle himself
Need to update your website to let people know that there is no 24 hour room service for dining. It was stated on the bonvoy app that I would have club access. Club is closed. No access. Our room came with a a small amount of toilet paper seems like that is an item that we shouldn’t have to ask for. $7 and some change for two coffees at the food stand where you can also get some microwaved food. Really not what I expected for a room that cost over $200 a night.Staff were friendly and everything was clean. The heights bar/restaurant was probably the highlight of they stay.
I selected this hotel because me and husband was celebrating our wedding anniversary and it was close to the restaurant that we had dinner reservations at. We had reserved the river view king suite originally for one evening but decided to extend our stay. I noticed that the same room was not available for the entire weekend so I called the front desk and I spoke with Erin(I believe that is her name). Well Erin, was so helpful by assisting me with getting my reservation extended to with another room. She went above and beyond her duties to assist me. The valet guys were very nice despite the large amount cars they were dealing with.
Nice view and friendly staff but for the price too many problems. Fridge leaked, couldn’t get extra towels after cleaning it up, toilet wouldn’t flush, AC didn’t cool room 2nd day, no free water as promised and restaurant wasn’t open for breakfast and no 24/7 room service as web site said. Also got billed $44 for valet parking we didn’t use.
This hotel is clean and nice. The rates for NYE were pretty expensive, but I am sure that is the case for any hotel on a holiday like that. The value for the premium price wasnt really there, but I am sure on a regularly priced night this hotel would offer a great value. Check-in was simple, but service was average.
Very disappointed. Corner Suite and the only thing good about the room was the view. Light bulbs missing from chandeliers, dirty carpet, spare plumbing parts in the floor, usbs didn’t work, no bottles water, coffee or tea available. Tape and streamers from a previous guest left hanging on the wall. Never again.
Had a minor housekeeping issue with the room and the management staff corrected it immediately while being extremely professional. Staff in the restaurant were so resourceful in helping our group find a great place to eat our last night. One of the friendliest staffs Ive experienced and I travel quite a bit.
We have been staying at this hotel for years and we were extremely disappointed with recent stay. Left room early. Noisy room AC, doors wouldn’t close, closed restaurant part of day, lack of sundry supplies, lack of attention to detail, run down vibe, AC in floor hallway not working right.
This is the premier place to stay in downtown Toledo. The staff are pleasant enough. The valet is the only parking option. They are 20 dollars a day, scratched my truck door, and the entrance is not organized which adds to delays comming and going. There has been a latex glive in the fitness center for a couple days. Cups just floating around the hotel. Admittedly there was a wedding last night, but 0 effort to try and keep it tidy. Someones blood was on my bathroom cabinet when I checked in. Looks like the ventilation has never been cleaned. Basically, when you are the main show in town I guess you dont have to try real hard.
We stayed there this past weekend to have a quick getaway and to visit my mother-in-law. We entered the room and noticed there were no towels or remote for the television, we left out to grab lunch and stopped at the front desk to let the associate know and were told that it would be taken care of. Upon returning a few hours later, we noticed the issue had not been resolved, so I call down to the front desk and ask the ETA,for both. After waiting another hour I call back and was told they will send someone up, 30 minutes pass and Lexi (who was amazing) comes and brings towels and so I asked her if she also would be bringing the remote for the television, she goes to her her supervisor and about 20 minutes later a gentleman arrives with the remote. At this point it has been about 4.5 hours since checking in initially. We leave again for dinner and upon return use the valet service to park our car for the night, but when it was time to check out our car was dead due to lights or something being left on, and we were forced to sit and wait another 40 minutes. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was not one on duty but to call the corporate number. I called the corporate number and filed a complaint and after not hearing any response after a few days, I called back just to find out my case was closed without any resolution or even a simple apology. After reading some.of the other reviews it seems that maybe all customers arent valued equally, or the staff and management are just not interested in providing good customer service. But after paying close to $200 for a night of terrible service , I dont think a simple apology for the terrible service or at least acknowledging the issue is too much to ask. I will never be back.
The elevators were malfunctioning. The front desk staff was curt when I called to check out. They allowed me an early check in. The coffee in the lobby was unsatisfactory althought the woman who served it was fabulous and charming. There was construction in front of the building.
This was before covid-19 a really nice 4.5 star restaurant. But now its over priced poorly cooked and terrible serves make me wish I had never returned. We spent 90 minutes total here mainly because steak need cooked 3 times just to get it right. 1st over cooked badly second under cooked badly 3 was ok but was the second refried.
I was very surprised by this hotel. Very trendy and well maintained. The room was average. Not a lot of lighting, but the view of the park next door and the river behind it was nice. I did have a few issues with cleanliness, however. I found a dirty sock behind the couch, some stuff (unknown what) on the toilet seat, and the toilet paper roll was already half gone. The safe also needed to be reset and unlocked. Also, the valet (which is required) takes an extremely long time to bring up your car. We found out later that the cars were kept quite a distance away; however, no one told us to call ahead to request it. Other than that, the hotel itself was great. The Brim House was nice, but The Height Roof Top bar was fantastic. Great place, great food, good drink selection. Overall, outside of the few cleaning mishaps--which can easily be corrected--this was a great hotel that I would highly recommend.
Lovely place to stay. Great views of the river and promenade park. Super comfy beds and the rooms have modern/fun decor. Friendly and helpful staff. We ate brunch at The Bistro. I enjoyed the veggie burger, kids had eggs and pancakes. My husband prefers simple foods, so he should have ordered his sandwich minus the avocado.
We attended a good friend’s wedding and were excited to have a nice suite to enjoy. Our check-in was delayed, the maid did not help us with broken glass in the room, the room was dirty and the common areas were dirty on our floor, and the manager promised me a credit but gave it to a different room. This has not been resolved and I am extremely unhappy with the staff and management of the hotel.
Stayed here for two nights for business. I was expecting outstanding experience as I visited restaurants and the bar in this hotel before and loved it. However, there was used bar soap in the shower... I thought I ended up in someone else’s room, but no, that was mine, just poorly cleaned after the previous guest. This followed by someone’s hair on the supposedly clean towels. And no coffee in the coffee station. Nice view and convenient location for downtown businesses. But I will not be staying here again.
We have stayed at the Renaissance Downtown over a dozen times and are always happy with the facility and location and service. My only complaint this time was the bedding and towels. They seemed poor quality and were not comfortable at all. The location on the water and the rooftop bar are definitely perks and the food at Brim House and The Heights is exceptional! We will continue to frequent the Renaissance!
Super cool hotel in the downtown area right by the river. Friendly staff, unique decor. My room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. The only drawback is lack of self parking at the hotel. Valet parking is only available at $22/night. Self parking is available a block away for about $6-$8/night
The parking was an absolute joke. They make you get valet, only for the valet to park your car 100 feet away which you can do yourself. Then charge $22 a day when its on the property. We came back to an unclean room. We got no housekeeping between nights. There was only 1 towel in the room to begin with. Front desk had no answer and could do nothing.
The room was beautiful and clean Great view but as for the restaurant called the heights it was a TERRIBLE experience. Asked to be seated on the balcony got told no to have the next couple come in and be seated outside. Was told we couldn’t move from our table to look at the view while others got to look out the windows and we’re standing moving around. The waitress brought my boyfriends meal 5-7 mins before I even got my Appetizer. Our waitress didn’t remove old beverages from our table. The menu isn’t that great. I had a terrible time at the heights. I would never go back.
The shots is actually very, very nice and the staff is superlative. One bi5of advice, though, stay away from upper floors if you like your room cool. The air conditioning was inoperable throughout my entire 5 day stay. It was a huge inconvenience in an entirely full hotel, and one in which I reserved a suite for family meeting space. If you can ensure you have a room with air conditioning, though, the hotel would get 5 stars, and in this the awesome staff turned what would have been negative starts to the 3 I had to give it.
Ill not stay there again. The lighting was very dim and dark, the hairdryer was missing, the tea and coffee had not been restocked, the noise in the hall carried through the room easily, there were no curtains to close, only shears which let in a lot of the city light. The food was OK. Best thing about the stay was coffee at the bar area in the morning as I was leaving.
Stayed Valentine’s weekend. Our room had chips crunched up on the chair in the room. The bathroom wall had dirt and hair on it.. could not be moved due to capacity.. the next morning we couldnt take a shower due to no hot water.. front desk was called and was told nothing they could do about it.. terrible customer service..
The Renaissance is the best hotel in downtown Toledo. Its a handsome place with a great rooftop bar. Youll have a solid stay but dont expect a 4.5 star experience. We experienced some significant plumbing issues during our last stay. First we had dirty water bubbling up from our sink. When that was resolved, the toliet stopped flushing. Maintainance was quick and knowledgable. They fixed the sink problem right away but couldnt fix the toliet because it would have required a full rebuild. Instead, the maintaince person removed the lid from the tank and instructed us about how to make it work internally. Im sure we would have been offered a different room but the problem started in the middle of the night. The hotel is beginning to show its age and the staff, though nice enough, isnt proactive. When another full service hotel comes to downtown Toledo, The Renaissance is going to have to really up their game.
I am an amateur review writer. Truly. That said...The Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel is a gem on the Maumee River in the heart of the glass city. It is comfortable, stylish, refreshing, and relaxing. The hotels attention to detail in the design of the public spaces, rooms and entertainment areas are matched by its friendly and caring staff. When in Toledo, I recommend you look into a stay at the Downtown Renaissance.I travel to Toledo on business and this hotel has made the trips most enjoyable. For me, there are three options on the property for a pleasant evening: The Brim House or the rooftop bar the Heights or both! The menu selections are diverse and delicious. And, other off site establishments are within walking distance.Only consider this hotel if the following things are important to you: a good nights rest, a vibrant atmosphere for a cocktail, or two, delicious meals just an elevator ride away from your room, a scenic sunset view of a city on a river, nice people all around you, super clean room, and I could go on.I hope this helps!
I stayed with them a couple weeks ago and unfortunately I got robbed right in the front of the hotel at gun point.. Ran inside and yelled call the police and the front desk staff just looked at me and didn’t call the police untill way too late and said I could not see the cameras.. I felt very unsafe and the staff did not help at all. As a matter of fact I got a sense the one of the staffs actually had something to do with the robbery. I strongly do not recommend !
The staff was the only thing that was great! I booked the romantic package just for me and my boyfriend to have a romantic get away and it was far from that. I asked for extra towels and only one set. Told me there would be robes there was no robes. The website said 2 drinks PER GUEST PER NIGHT. Nope not the case we only had one drink a piece. Website said breakfast was included for both of us. You would think breakfast would be on them right because that’s what the website made it seem like. Wrong, it was up to a $16.00 off breakfast and not per guest total! So we went to the lounge and our keys didn’t even work when we were told we had full access to the lounge. After we got the cards reactivated, we had 30 minutes left, and to be honest breakfast wasn’t even that great. I stayed at cheaper hotels and the breakfast was a lot better than what we were given. After we checked out i said we will not be returning, i mentioned that the hotel across the street offered the same package, but better and included more for more than $100 cheaper and they acted like they didn’t even care. Let’s just say we will never be returning and we will take our business across the street to the park inn. I wrote a review on Facebook and was offered a refund for what we spent on breakfast as well as a free stay, but we didn’t buy breakfast we ate the free breakfast there offered for free at the hotel and that was not good at all.
The staff again...fabulous. The Heights is a great place to eat, relax and enjoy. Excellent service and high quality food. Members lounge, weak. Poor quality of food, no imagination. Nothing interesting, healthy or worth enjoying. Either repair the pool table or just rempve. Overall very good experience and most definitely going back. Great team working at hotel.

They put us in a room that was not ready for us to stay in. It appeared that someone was in the process of fixing the bathroom vanity and sink. The sink bowl was falling out of the vanity. There was a mask on the counter. Once we moved rooms the next day, we had to figure out how to get the TV connected. The shower water was also cold. I think this place has potential, but it lacking in some areas.
Did not stay in the hotel only went to the rooftop bar 😒... wait staff was kinda slow but not the issue, the hostesses was not very polite with our group who wanted to be outside in a area that had a great view but no service and that was OK with us as we were only having one for the sunset
Great rooms, view and The Heights bar Lounge is awesome. Management was a different experience. Room not ready (we were there for a wedding reception). Reception area was full of people waiting to check in. Some waited an hour some never got to their rooms until after 7:30 pm (arrived at 4:00 pm) Unacceptable. No discount offered to us but some did receive $ off-so no clear plan on how to accommodate the managements short comings. Drink tickets were given but when you got to the bar they were out of clean glasses-What the heck??!! First time we stayed there so it was a very poor first impression.

2022-02-22This hotel was perfect for our one night getaway. The hotel itself and the rooms are very nice and we had a nice view of the river from our room. While the lobby bar was closed, they offered complimentary sangria and coffee in the lobby which was a lovely touch. I was happy to see that the bathroom in our room had a magnified lighted mirror (since I am very nearsighted and use one at home) but I was surprised that the bathroom lacked certain amenities such as makeup remover or shower caps.Since the parking situation is only valet (and $22 per night) and it was very cold, we decided to eat at The Heights in the hotel. With everything else in the hotel being closed, it was crowded, but the food was very good.

2022-01-24Very nice, updated, clean hotel in an awesome location. The girls at the front desk were welcoming, on top of things, and good at communicating. The hotel staff were very accommodating- late at night we wanted to heat up food so I called the desk to see if they had a microwave I could go use, but within 2 minutes they brought an actual microwave TO our room!We wanted to stay in and eat dinner at the hotel but the heights was closed due to a bridal shower, and the main floor restaurant was temporarily closed which was a bummer. On a busy weekend around checkout time, expect to wait a while to get your car from valet. We waited over 30 minutes so call ahead or plan accordingly. The valet staff were very considerate and hard working, thoughKind of a downside that Marriott does not include wifi or parking into the cost of your room. Still would gladly return to this hotel, would be great in the summer along the river 😁

2022-02-27The hotel offers valet parking which was convenient when checking in. Quick & easy check-in.Our room was clean, cozy & spacious. It had a nice view of the river. We had some appetizers and drinks at “The Heights” which is one of the few places to grab a bite conveniently located within the hotel. Drinks, food & service were fabulous! It was a great experience and highly recommended.

2021-10-26I really want to like this hotel, but for the price it is absolutely not worth it. I stayed here twice for a night as a stopping point on a longer road trip. The first night we were here, the smoke alarm in the room has low batteries and had a super bright light because of a low battery, and it took about an hour for someone to answer and come up from the time I messaged the front desk (they just taped over the light with electrical tape). Then after checking out, I noticed there was an $88 extra charge on my room that I had to message them to remove. The second time we stayed here we ordered room service from the heights (note that this restaurant is the best thing about the hotel, and I would give the restaurant alone 5 stars). When the person came to deliver the room service, he dropped a wine glass on the ground shattering it, and then told us to call the front desk to have it cleaned up and left. After we called the same guy then showed back up to clean it up. As a result, by the time we were able to eat our food, it was cold. Also worth noting that the bathrooms in the lobby were pretty gross, and a bunch of stalls were missing toilet paper. The views from the rooms are nice, the rooms themselves are nice, but overall, for the price youre paying, it just isnt worth it. Im not going to be coming back here in the future.Edit: Thanks Craig, for a super generic, copy/paste response. Given some of the other reviews Ive seen here, I feel very confident that either feedback wont be shared, or that if it is, it will be ignored and nothing will be done.

2022-05-15It was a genuinely awful experience, especially for the price. The hotel room was clean but they weren’t offering daily cleanings or stocking of items which was problematic because it took 45min plus to get more towels and extra blankets. Why not stock more than two towels if you don’t have the staff to run items? We stayed 3 nights, the fire alarm and evacuation occurred twice. People in crutches were going up and down stairs despite there not being a fire. No staff were directing us during each occurrence. We couldn’t go the the rooftop bar because they were at max capacity. It was a disorganized mess. I felt bad for people who had a wedding there. I’d recommend booking elsewhere for a wedding or hotel stay.

2022-05-24For this price, I would have expected a much better experience. The price : insanely expensive and offered no amenities. Our room did not have bath towels with the exception of a few hand and wash cloths. Our room was provided a coffee maker with no coffee. Not even a bottle of water was included in our stay which would have been the least thing they could offer for this price point. The parking garage is not ideal as their lot is only for valet but that seems more like a location logistic than error on their part. There was not breakfast the next day and the restaurant was closed . I booked this because of convenience but it was anything but. Ugh.

2022-04-19One of the best parts about staying in a hotel is typically the bed... Not here. The bed seemed like a basic spring mattress, and the comforter was merely a sheet. Surprising considering they have their own line of bedding. The room also didnt come with any complimentary water bottles. So when you go to make your coffee in the morning, expect to go to the hotels shop and pay FOUR DOLLARS for 1 bottle of Aquafina. Dont bother asking the guest clerk if theres a convenient mart within a couple miles because they will tell you no there is not although there is one .5 miles down the road. Definitely just go to the 24 hour Circle K and not their shop. Also, even if you have a Do Not Disturb tag on your door, housekeeping will come before checkout time banging on your door til you answer JUST TO ASK IF YOURE LEAVING TODAY OR STAYING ANOTHER NIGHT. Most hotels can look at the reservations to see that, but this one apparently does it old school.Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because they held a polka party and that was literally the only thing to do in Toledo on a weekend night.

2022-02-10We ate in the igloos at the Heights restaurant. Quite a cool experience! Make sure you have a warm jacket as you can see in the photos there is just a little heater. Should be under the table not on top. Never really got comfortable in there to take off our jackets. It was fun food was good as always.

2022-03-21Possibly the best Renaissance property in the United States. I was stunned by it! All the common spaces and rooms are renovated and simply trailblazing for the hotel brand. There is a free parking option, and VIP parking is only $20+. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and the rooms look over the Maumee River. Its tough to beat pool tables, comfort lounging, and a first-class bar. I couldnt have asked for a more pleasant experience.
