I was born and raised in North East Ohio, so I’ve been familiar with this Ponzi scheme since I was a young child, so after becoming an adult I knew to file this BS…my wife moved from Louisiana to Ohio and had no clue, until they tried to come after her in 2017 for taxes we filed jointly… since then I have been hit with countless penalties and late fees because they can’t do their job correctly.
Sadly, this is the worst way possible to collect local taxes. They send you warnings in the mail, with short deadlines. They even want paid before youre paid your wages! They tell you what you owe the whole year, based on previous income. They say you OWE it, when the year isnt even over yet.This alone, is a reason to not live in Ohio. I get paying local taxes but this place is just awful, including the people there.
I moved from Boardman to Youngstown a few years ago, had no clue you had to pay an additional tax to RITA for the honor and privilege of living in one of their municipalities. Three years later, I get a notice Im behind. How convenient, they can only collect up to three years. I would have resolved this after the first year if I knew.Cant wait to move out of Youngstown, and into a non-RITA town.
I am very satisfied with my weight loss, probably one of the best weight loss programs I have ever been in.I did not know I was supposed to file my taxes separately here. So they gave me a fine for not filing my taxes on time.Unfortunately I dont make a lot of money, so I had to take my food allowance and use it to pay the tax. Right now its been a few days since I paid my penalty, I had to cut down to one meal every two days so I can make it till the end of the month. So far I lost about 8 pounds in a week!!!The only reason Im giving them a 1-star review Is because this is a involuntary weight loss program. I did not sign up for this, yet they still forced me and threatened me that they will sue me if I dont pay the penalty.I asked the lady at the desk to convert the penalty for jail time and she refused.I hope and pray to God that all the people working for a week and theyll know what it feels like.Trying to look at the positives I already lost some weight.
Didnt contact me for 3 years and I get a notice in the mail that I owe $2000 for not filing with a bunch of late fees. Why wouldnt you contact me the first year I didnt file? A literal scam.
I have now had problems with making payments on this site twice. It tells you everything went through, but when you check your accounts, NOTHING has gone out. It cant be trusted. Unfortunately it falls on the taxpayer to follow-up to make sure the computer system actually worked. We should be able to pay with credit card on this site as well. The employees are friendly and helpful, but the system is terrible. Its already bad enough we have to pay out the nose to live here due to RITA.
The website gives you little to no time to save a PDF. RITA just sucks in general, as a resident as a taxpayer. Do yourself a HUGE favor and do not move anywhere that utilizes RITA. I paid my local akron city taxes when I lived there, easy, fast, $63 bucks owed to them. With RITA I owed over $200 and then some, PLUS 25% of next years taxes and I made less than the year prior. Dont move to cuyahoga county, dont do it, dont do it. Live somewhere else.

I have been a CPA myself. I moved out of Ohio last year and can finally put a statement on my own RITA return “I’m done with you RITA, I will not pay a penny for the rest of my life!” I love Ohio with great passion but RITA is what we Chinese call the “rat poop in soup”.
Hated this company while living in Ohio. I havent lived in Ohio since 2017, and I have never stopped receiving mail from them including fees I apparently owe. Still hate them. I hope I just received the last thing I will ever receive from them, but of course, its a bill.
Would give zero but I cant. Dont worry I will receive a penalty in the mail in 2 to 3 years for not knowing it was an option. Seriously, I could process taxes quicker than these people.

City Taxes is a garbage enough means of income. Privatized City Taxes where you pay the state and a corporation tax money is economic cancer.

2022-06-11There is absolutely no accountability for these dollars. No one can tell you where the money went. They cant tell you why I pay 700 in pepper Pike and 1800 in Cleveland heights. What. You think the raids are better in Cleveland heights? The snow plows did not run for 2 years and when they did they intentionally plowed all of the driveways back in. The big 24 inch snow on Christmas day a few years ago, a snow plow never came until the next winter and that winter was about 2 times. Pot holes abound unless you live on a street inhabited by someone at city hall.it is too bad that you have to give even 1 star to be able to post. RITA is a bunch of thieves that take hard earned money and use it to fund city and state employees special interests. Like Shontels.bed partner,a so called road paving company. When will the citizens of Ohio stand together to put this agency out of existence. Stop filling county and state employee pockets with our hard earned money!

2022-07-26I have filed 2020 taxes TWICE. And even tried using their pathetic excuse for a website. I just received a notice that I failed to file. Funnily enough I got a letter telling my taxes were received. Joke of a tax system, joke of a city. Never regretted moving to a place more than I do Cleveland Heights

2022-09-11They failed to credit me for a payment that I submitted with my tax return (the check cleared), then billed me an incorrect amount with added penalty and interest due to non-payment. At present, the issue has still not been corrected.

2022-03-16I spoke with Lisa in legal today as I tried to remedy an issue with my past taxes. Its ridiculous that some employers dont take out regional tax to avoid headaches for all involve but I digress. Lisa was unprofessional and made it difficult to receive assistance for the questions I had. She refused to look up my information or help work through the main issue without a fight. She ultimately decided to somewhat do her job and get me the information I requested but it wasnt due to any amount of knowledge she possessed on her own or in the system. The situation is as frustrating as previous reviewers have stated so I do own that I got a bit aggravated with how she was handling my inquiries and the call over all. I tried to speak to her supervisor or another party and she refused to transfer me or provide me with information for those people. It was as if she decided to antagonize me and make a bad situation even worse. The calls are supposed to be recorded and I left a review regarding the service I received so I sincerely hope they take all the information available to heart and provide some additional training to this Lisa in Legal person. Its unfortunate that the common person cant get issues resolved with taxes without some random CSR esaperating the situation. Lisa did not end the call well. She, in fact, hung up on me. Luckily, I was placed into the queue for leaving a review. RITAs website isnt informative and, apparently, neither are their employees -- well at least not Lisa. Its sad a bad apple can ruin the whole bunch, and in this case, the bunch was already sour. I wouldnt recommend but none of us have a choice.

2022-01-08The most useless website I have ever come across. Could not find a clear answer if I actually owe an egregious amount to Rita or not. Disgusting they celebrate the millions and even billion they collected and redistributed. Got a letter in the mail saying I didnt file in 2019....it is 2022, how does it take you THREE YEARS to figure out a resident didnt file. How am I supposed to just magically know this agency even existed....I did not grow up in Ohio and moved to Ohio permanently in 2019. I would rather be on the streets before I worked here.

2021-09-21Ive lived in a bunch of places across the country (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle) before I moved to Cleveland, and this is the first time Ive ever run into the concept of being taxed twice at the local level: Once for the city you work in, which gets withheld from your paycheck (makes sense / Im used to this), and then once for the city you live in, where you magically have to know youre supposed to submit estimated taxes for it (this is through RITA, and this makes little sense to me). I work at CWRU and live ~ 1 mile away in Cleveland Heights, and yet Cleveland takes 2.5% out of my paycheck and Cleveland heights takes its own 1.75% through this weird separate system (apparently I get 0.5% off that rate b/c Ive already given that 2.5% to Cleveland? How generous). To be honest, Im perfectly fine paying taxes to boost public services, but this whole system is bizarre and inefficient and really makes you feel theyre out to get you.9/20/21 Edit: Ooof. And now I got hit with $600 in penalty fees b/c I filed my 2020 taxes in September instead of April because I didnt know I needed to do this (because this system is bizarre). I dont mind paying taxes, but its really a bitter pill to swallow when it feels like extortion. There goes all of my good will along with those $600.

2021-10-15David gave exceptional customer care while assisting me today. He notated my account so the next representative can give the same resolution we spoke about. Ill be calling back to close the account within a few days. Im pleased with his level of service.

2021-09-08You know whats fantastic? Living in a city for four years totally unaware of a staggering tax youre expecting to be paying to an agency either so greedy or incompetent (both?) they dont realize you havent been paying for a tax you are totally unaware exists. All the while you accrue late fees and interest in the hundreds. I cant imagine who would actually work at such a disgusting establishment but the woman I spoke to was one of the most useless people Ive ever met. Her job could be replaced by a computer following the same algorithm is it.

2022-02-03This is their page for requesting a local tax refund due to COVID 19 work from home orders.This company is either completely incompetent, or a scam. I wonder how much they get paid to provide this absolutely terrible service. RITA management should be ashamed of themselves and cities that use their service should seriously consider taking their business elsewhere.

2021-05-03If I could give Zero stars I would!! This company is absolutely horrible!! Make no sense the penalties and fees occurred in a short amount of time. There is a box that I checked to receive the tax bill later. When later came had penalties and interest fees amounting to over $300. Penalties n fees will not be getting paid!!!! Have a great day RITA!!!
