Great golf course and in very good shape for the time of year. Enjoyed the course layout and the course was well maintained. They dont have a ranger but will send one out if needed. The front nine took 2:50 to play and group in front had 4 holes open in front of them. Called the clubhouse after 12 and they sent someone out right away. Finished with just enough light left to see the final hole. Would return.
Wouldnt recommend. Played 3, 9 hole rounds in the last 3 weeks and my experience was sub par for the price. Paid $22/round for torn up tee boxes, fairways covered in straw and employees with incredibly bad attitudes toward golfers. There were 2 older gentlemen that were very nice and got me on the course quickly on my first tee-time appx. 7 am. However, the woman who I was greeted with twice around 1 pm would not let me play the back nine either time regardless of who was making the turn and when. She also treated me like my rain-check was forged and I was trying to pull a fast one on her.I know this is a cheap municipal course but at least try to make things nice.. save your pennies and go to a better course in the area.Edit: I played the other day for free and confirmed it wasnt worth it. I also found out the the woman I mentioned in my previous review (above) is actually the PGA pro in charge. DO NOT PLAY HERE.
The more experienced male staff members are incredibly bitter, rude and actually managed to be insulting towards paying customers. There was plenty of daylight left and we almost had to beg them to take our money to play, yet the staff complained about a million dollar lawsuit against the city. It is a city run entity so I’m sure no one cares but if you can avoid spending your dollar here, do so. Plenty of other nicer courses.
Was only allowed to play nine holes because anything after 3pm is reserved for leagues. There were a lot of grounds keeping issues in fairways and greens (which were very firm like concrete). The staff has always been below average at treating paying customers. Ive never understood how someone who works at a golf course could be so bitter all the time. The only reason Im giving the 2nd star is because the bunkers were very well maintained.
Very well maintained golf course. The back 9 looked amazing had a great time. Only reason no 5* Is because of the staff. Listen people if you don’t want to be there working with the public then stay home. Their are enough negative things going on in this world and no need for your unkindly expressions and comments under your breath
Played on a weeknight, so as expected there was a lot of league play. Course was very busy, but the starter did a good job combining groups into three and foursomes. Pace of play was never an issue (I dont know the last time I played on a weeknight and could say that) Course was in very good shape despite 3 straight days of heavy rain, and the greens rolled true.I really enjoyed the layout. There was good variety in the holes, no two play quite the same. The greens are large with moderate slope, and the greenside bunkers are big and soft. In general, the course is pretty wide open - youre not going to lose too many balls on poor shots. Finally, the price was fantastic.Overall this is a solid course that offers good hole variety and lots of margin for error, all at a very good price.
This is my go to course to play in Columbus. Always in decent shape and is a good test for your accuracy. Ive seen some other people post about rude staff but Ive never had any problems, once when the laces on my golf shoes broke they even gave me some from an old pair! Very nice and helpful. Only downside for me is that the driving range is irons only. Long round times are impossible to avoid if youre playing on a weekend, especially a holiday one, but thats not exclusive to this course by any means. Ive finished rounds in 3 1/2 hrs when Ive walked out as a single for twilight or on a day off in the week. Great course, 100% recommend. If youre looking for a course to walk as opposed to ride a cart this is a great one as well, green to tee distances are never long and few issues as a walker.
Played there today and I’m right now writing this review after just finishing a round of 18 holes that started at 2:24. Management needs to monitor groups of 8-12 people playing together on the same hole. After taking over an hour to play only two holes it becomes apparent that perhaps I should write this course off for the remainder of the year or at least until they decide to enforce the rules they print on their scorecards. The city of Columbus should be ashamed that such a nice course is managed so poorly.
This is my go to place, as it offers a great challenge while preserving the fun. The course is not very long, but there are holes that can be challenging if you dont place it correctly. Accuracy is a must. The prices are pretty good, as its a Columbus Municipal course, and the staff is usually helpful. Shockingly good food at the course, make sure you get a brat!
Of the Columbus municipal golf courses, this is one of the nicer ones. Greens are usually well kept, and the fees are comparable to other non-municipal courses in the area.Although they dont allow drivers, they do have a nice irons range and practice putting green, which is one of the few locations on the west side to practice your swing without going out for a full round of golf.
My golfing buddy JD. P. Course was in near perfect conditions. Everyone was super friendly. The staff was awesome. The only thing is see they could improve is to add a starter. ( the guy that pairs people up). Also maybe stager some players to start of on the 10th hole so were not jammed up at hole 1.Awesome time . Thanks guy.
I’ve tried to call every day this week for them to check for an Apple Watch I left in the cart, as I live over a half hour away, and they’ve given me some excuse for why they can’t step out for five min to look in the cart for me. The most recent time I called, I asked the lady “can either you or anyone else just go look quickly for me” and her response was “we will do our best, bye” and legitimately hung up before I had the chance to say anything. Kind of shocking, really
I love the track but... so many people play it daily that its difficult to get on. Of the ten thousand hackers that play on it weekly, only about three are courteous enough or have the know-how to fix a ball mark. Its not unusual to see cut-off jeans and t-shirts amongst the foursomes. Great staff and great track. Play it very early, right after lunch, or after 7 in the evening.
Played here 4/17/16 with a friend of mine. We were grouped with another twosome and teed off on time. We quickly realized we were in for a long day. It looks like they schedule tee times every 8 minutes for foursomes which is too short in my opinion. I understand they want to make more money, but there were 3 groups on every hole, all day long. At $45 I thought it was a little expensive for a municipal course. The greens were in desperate need of being cut and rolled and the indicators on the flag stick (front, middle, back) were often comically wrong. Between the crammed course, slow greens, and incorrect pin indicators, it made for a long and frustrating day. We finished in just over 5 hours. The layout is overall good, but challenging at 6500 yards from the blues (second longest tees). Lots of par 4s at or above 400 yards, long par 3s, and only 1 or 2 reachable par 5s.
One of the less expensive public courses in Columbus, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the quality of the course! They offer a military discount but not a veteran discount unfortunately.Another thing about this course is they will pair you up if you’re by yourself no matter the time or day. On other public courses like the airport or champions you can go by yourself and if they’re not busy you can play quickly and be done with 18 in 2 hours. I went here on a Tuesday morning and they put me with another group of 2. Didn’t make much sense to me but I guess it’s not the biggest of deals, just can’t go as fast as I’d like.
Great golf course for those who like crowded, over-booked, slow golf on a course with fairways running close together in parallel. I know a guy who got hit in the middle of his forehead from 70 yards with a driver. (Well actually it was the ball which hit him) This has nothing to do with anything, but an interesting thing.Schmidt’s Sausage is Served here. It is totally worth it to golf a five hour round with idiots to eat their sausage before your round...and at the turn...and after.
Weve been out here for 1:20 and only played 4 holes!!!! Its like this every time we play here. The pace of play is horrendous. Whoever schedules tee times here needs to re-evaluate the way things are run at this course. The course is nice and in good condition, but thats greatly overshadowed by how long it takes to play a round. I would only recommend playing this course if you dont mind spending 5+ hours to finish your round. :/
I found the lady in the pro shop to be less than warming. As the first person you encounter and the person who gets my money, quite honestly I expect a smile. The starter was very friendly and offered conversation to every group. The pace of play while slow, and our group certainly contributed to that pace, was acceptable for a Saturday morning. The cost was reasonable. All in all, I enjoyed my experience and I will come back and recommend it to my friends. Just offer a smile when you take my money. Please and thank you......
The course is a pretty decent public course inside the 270 outerbelt. Just the proximity of everything around it should give it automatically 3 stars. The greens are what youd expect from a public course although they can be pretty rough at times. Pace is alright but the ranger doesnt seem to encourage quick play. The driving range is irons only so thats another downside. The halfway house by the 18th green is awesome and serves Schmidts. Id still recommend people to play this course because its cheaper than others and its close to everything, just wish theyd do some updates.
The golf course itself is fine. Their patrons, not so much. The jackasses behind us hit over my group as we waited for the group in front of us. Then they tried to say we waved them through. We were sitting in the middle of the fairway the entire time. Much like life, enjoy the game and watch out for idiots.
Horrible experience, they love to book as many groups as possible, so it will take you roughly 5 1/2 hours to complete a round which is incredible when its 95 degrees outside . In addition, two colleagues of mine have had their cars broken into while playing on separate occasions. For a cost of $45 it is an absolute joke in terms of maintenance and organization. The starter is utterly useless and pays no attention to pace of play. Do NOT play this course.
Treated poorly, when asked for a refund for range balls and there was a line to wait to hit. Was just hoping to hit a quick bucket after work. The pro staff was very rude about this request. On another note if youre looking for a range in this area, there are only irons allowed.
I will never go back. In no way do they try and enforce any rate of play... just played today, had a tee time at 1024, got off the course at 335. By the third hole we were waiting 10 minutes a hole to tee off, and the back nine took us 3 hours! Seemed like they put groups off every 7 minutes, which is NOT enough time.
Just thought Id put it out there but the are in which the golf course is located in is rather unsavory. My mother belongs to a league which used to play at raymond until 3 months ago when her car was broken into along with five other cars. The security cameras were out at the time of the incident and the staff iterated that this had occurred before and was a drug thing. One of the things that was stolen was a rain check for a golf cart which had her name on it. Upon remembering this she called Raymond in case someone else tried to use it. That was today and the individual who answered her call said that they never check those things and later that the police didnt care either. I feel that places like these dont deserve the business and deserve to be shut down. Its places like these that give the service industry a bad name and I advise anyone one who reads reviews of golf courses to avoid Raymond Memorial. Beyond that the greens are improperly managed and the rangers are useless when it comes to ensuring the conduct of the game. Take my advice and go to Champions where at least people care and service is decent.
DO NOT PLAY HERE!!! AFTER READING OTHER REAVIEWS ON GOOGLE SOUNDS LIKE ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. MY BROTHERS CAR AND 2 OTHERS BROKEN INTO OVER THE WEEKEND. OUR CAR AND THE TRUCK HAD WINDOWS BUSTED IN AND MY FRIENDS CAR GOT HIS LOCK PICKED. STOLE ANYTHING THEY COULD FIND. THE COURSE HAS SECURITY CAMERAS BUT THEY WERENT WORKING. IT WAS MIDDLE OF THE DAY, COURSE WAS PACKED, PLENTY OF PEOPLE AROUND BUT NO ONE SAW/HEARD ANYTHING...

2022-06-07The course was soaked from recent rains but I was pleasantly surprised by the overall course conditions. I hadnt played there in a really long time and I would say overall its way better than it used to be 10+ years ago. Greens were consistent and rolled beautifully. Fairways were thick and green. Pretty impressed for a City course.

2022-03-06Visited the Schmidts Sausage House location inside the clubhouse. I had a Bahama Mama platter. Excellent!

2022-06-24Course is in great shape and will challenge many golfers. You are rewarded for staying in the fairway and heavily penalized for going in the rough. Once there balls are difficult to find . Greens are nicely manicured and fair.

2022-01-26Staff member was rude to me when I called to ask about tee times. Another staff member yelled at us for playing too slow which I am aware that people don’t like slow play but this person continued to give us a hard time even after we offered to let others behind us play thru. Condition of the course is just ok, not the best. The only positive thing I have to say is that it is a pretty decent value for the price

2022-06-03Very Okay experience overall. I initially went to just go to the driving range and putting green but was thinking about playing in the next day or so maybe there. But after visiting I don’t think I will. Very rude staff and unfortunately the driving range was irons only. The driving range was fairly cheap but nothing about this place was great

2022-03-05Workers are disrespectful, i called and they picked up with an attitude. i get there they just dont seem to be happy at all and show no respect when i am showing respect to them. very sad considering a 15 year old is more respectful than people 50 years or more, usually the older people have more respect.

2021-05-10It was nice. Its an easy course to learn on. Greens in great shape and pretty fast. The 9 holes we played were also in great shape but spring has the grass at its best. Nothing spectacular about the course other than convenient to the city and not flooded like airport.

2022-04-18Always extremely crowded and the rangers dont enforce pace of play at all. Ive played here 10+ times and Ive never played a round in under 5 hours. The price is absurd considering the condition of the course and how boring the layout is. Most holes are dead straight with parallel holes running next to them. The only reason they can charge the prices they do is due to their location and lack of public courses inside of 270.If you are looking for courses around Columbus that have better conditions and are a better value, Id recommend The Ridge, Darby Creek, Mentel Memorial, or Safari over Raymond.

2021-04-16Staff are accommodating when we have 4-5 subsequent tee times. The beer and food prices are solid and very reasonable. We golf here at least 3-4 times a year and theyve been great.
