Despite the name, this store definitely specializes in reptiles/amphibians. This store is owned by people who genuinely care about the well-being of their animals. They are not in this business to simply make money. I am from Columbus and when I visit family in Akron, I make a point to stop in this store because I own two lizards myself. The first time I walked in I was immediately impressed. I have been in many, many reptile specialty stores and Rat Kingdom is the cleanest, most organized, and most welcoming of all of them. Every animal is in healthy condition and in an appropriate enclosure. Every enclosure is well maintained and most of all CLEAN. The animals are priced so that the right person will invest in their care and not simply buy a cool looking pet. The store carries insects for feeding that chain stores dont carry. This store is the real deal, and I will always be a customer.
Rats have severe mite infestations. The woman picked up a rat by his tail then threw him three feet. Absolutely unacceptable. The rats are malnourished and not properly cared for. Had to give rat a mite bath.
The staff seems to have a genuine love for animals and are very helpful. All of their reptile and small animal cages are clean, and they are well taken care of. My new rats were handled daily at their store prior to me buying them, and its obvious because they are super sweet already. Thanks!
I go here a lot to purchase food for my rabbits, and I recommend this to all of my friends. The animals are very well taken care of, and the staff is knowledgeable so can help with any questions you may have as to how to care for your new pet.
Got my pet snake Reggae here back in 2017. Hes been good and healthily ever since. Highly recommend getting your first snake here. Staff is knowledgeable.
Worst place, I recently bought two rats from here, today I checked up on them and had to get them to the vet as an emergency, when they called us back they told us he had a 50/50 chance of living, and said that where we got him it’s comen for the vets the vet said they don’t take good care of cleaning and the rat had an respiratory infection. I give it a -100000000000000000000 never again ( forgot to mention they box they came in had dead crickets in it )
It was a interesting place with all the reptiles and other animals to look at. The gentleman that helped me didnt have what i needed but gave me great ideas on how to build what i need. I was so impressed with him and the care the animals receive!
A very nice selection of exotic and rare reptiles, and animals. I go there for (bait for my biz Patricks Pest Control. I always find what I need,and enjoy admiring the beautiful creatures. Very nice and helpful staff.
Always a great experience with fantastic customer service. The owner went out of his way to get me the snake of my dreams when he didn’t typically carry it in his store. We have 5 of his reptiles and will never buy elsewhere again.
I can really tell they love the animals. I have a few concerns about the condition of some of the bearded dragons. I saw one with a bent foot (maybe broken?) And they didnt seem to care. Well priced supplies though! Not sure I would like to go back though.
This place is kind of small for a pet store. First off theyre mainly reptiles. Second off you have to purchase the animal to even hold it. Wouldnt it be a good tactic to have the customer hold it anyways? Maybe they will change their mind if they werent going to buy it? Business logic I guess... I found that out by a worker who told me after Shed saw me looking around for a while. I just wanted to hold a ferret... which they are kept in a very small cage. I was told by another worker that they are big on keeping animals in the right habitats. I personally dont believe that after I saw how those poor ferrets were kept. I drove 2 hours to check this place out... but there are better places where Im from. Next! P.S. I only wanted to hold the ferrets. Not every animal. Their response seems typical from of people who dont care about constructive criticism or their customers well being. The reason why they got one star and a boycott from not only me, but other pet owners. Thanks.
Insanely good exotic store. Owner cares about all the animals and gives all the proper information and care for them. If youre looking for a reptile this should be the place to go. Very good prices too.
The place is small, lots of flies, the rats looked to be unhealthy, one was missing a foot. They said they had supplies, but hardly had any, the hut was used had to wash it when i got hom . I think my rat is sick, Im debating on taking him back. Not happy at all! Drove 30 mintues for this place. i feel like they gave me a feeder rat. Not pleased.Edit after owners response: i was never told the hut was used and you never told me you want your customers to be happy. At first you refused to take the sick rat back and then giggled on the phone. Its obviously a feeder rat.
Fantastic place for pets! All the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They have a wide variety of animals and all are clean and well cared for, even the feeders. Absolutely the only pet shop Ill go to

INBREEDS!!!!! Purchased two rats from here both died within weeks. Theyre over bred and kept in aquariums with no ventilation. I came in just the other day to witness a dying male rat with not a single staff giving a care because he was still there the next day. Never again would purchase an animal from here wish I could rate lower

2022-05-07Ive never seen such dirty cages before. Half of the food was rotted in their enclosures. The tortoise had pyramiding shell. The bunnies and guinea pigs had no hay. The degu cages were so full they couldnt even walk around. The reptile cages are unclean and a lot of them looked very malnourished. Also the guy at the front desk had no interest in keeping these animals clean. Just looked at his phone the ENTIRE time we were there. Very disappointing.

2022-01-01Jason Folk is a joke. Owners right, no one here would ever treat the animals like that. They are extremely attentive, protective and caring of all the animals. They were very patient with my kids and answered all our questions. They make sure that you are knowledgeable about the care and commitment required of keeping any of their pets. They also showed me how to properly clip my rabbits toenails and didnt charge me the first time.

2022-04-05Should be a zero star option. The worker/owner is extremely rude, has terrible people skills, seems to not want to make any customer seem welcome and could care less about greeting or being slightly friendly towards any customers. I will never return to this place.

2021-04-29This place is a small local business. The owner is helpful, kind, and friendly. My daughter bought a corn snake and this place went above and beyond to help us learn how to care for her. Very knowledgeable. I liked that they sell used equipment, its great recycling and awesome to cut costs when starting up.

2021-09-08Absolutely love these people, they know a lot, just got these guys there a couple days ago. The last two pictures was from today went in to get my buddy a friend. Owner is funny and knows what he’s talking about. They are called “degus” never heard of them till rat kingdom. I go there to also get rats for my snakes. Absolutely love them! 5/5 from me

2021-05-12Amazing place to find an out of the norm pet. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I got an Argentine Black and White Tegu and I love him. The owner takes great care of the animals and absolutely loves what he does. My wife got a little Beardie. Will 100% be getting more from here.

2019-04-27Always a great visit.. have exactly what I need and are super friendly. They sell a variety of reptiles and rodents - from snakes to Savannah monitors to rabbits.. they also have feeder items both live and frozen. They are very knowledgeable and are honest people. I have purchased 2 snakes from them, and both are very healthy and are great pets. I highly recommend Rat Kingdom!
