I’ve been using Primary Pet Care since I got my dog - over 10 years ago. They’ve always been professional, friendly and courteous. My dog wags her tail every time and seems to like going to the vet. I really appreciate them being understanding when I had an out-of-state family emergency and needed to get my dog vaccinated so that the kennel will take her. I highly recommend Primary Pet Care to everyone looking for affordable vet care.
They are so patient with our lil Clyde. Hes a rescue & apparently had been passed around from home to home so he has lots of issues including high anxiety & separation worries . Although it took us 3 diff visits, 5 employees & an anti-anxiety script (due to his extreme distress) they worked with him & came up with a solution to getting this baby the vaccines that he needed. Were very happy with Primary Pet Care & how they handled lil Clyde & his ability to fight everyone in his path being a tiny 26 lb Min-Ter-Weiner. He & his brother are due for their vaccines again & itll be a challenge but were comfortable knowing that they care enough to see that hes taken care of.
Primary Pet Care is affordable and does an OK job at routine checkups. However, the reasons for a 1 star review are plenty. They have a difficult time answering the phone and are not responsive to voice messages or emails. Their no (or limited) appointment approach is terrible. I waited in the parking lot for 3 hours one day after checking in. I had no choice but to stay since it was the only day I had off and my dog was having hip problems. And the cherry on top was last week when I found my dog lifeless on the living room floor after she got in the trash and suffocated inside a chip bag. We called Primary Pet Care to see what we needed to do to revive her or if we could take her in ASAP. They were no help. The person put me on hold so that she could talk to a doctor and then it just went to voicemail. My dog ended up passing. Save your time and your pet. Go to a real vet.
Let me start by saying I’ve been bringing my cat to the stow office for close to a decade and it’s been great. I had an appointment scheduled last week so I got off work, got my cat and took him to the office on time for my appointment and there was a sign on the door that said “closed unexpectedly.” No phone call to let me know. So fine, I made another appointment for today for vaccines, flea/tick meds, and claws trimmed. Just routine right? I bring in my cat and I see all new faces and the culture is just cold and unfriendly. They take him away from me and leave me in the exam room which is different than any other visit there. They said it’s because they do appointments now. DO NOT let them separate you from your pet. The girl brought him back to me 20 minutes later telling me that they could not trim the claws or put flea drops on his neck, but they were able to give 3 vaccines AND draw blood for a feline leukemia test. Make sense? Let me add that my cat was panting and terrified. I’ve never seen him like that before, but then, I’ve never had to be separated during a routine vet visit, or any vet visit. I will never bring my cat to them again and highly recommend to the business to find new staff. The manager knew I was upset when I left and she told me to have a really great day in an inappropriate super sunshiny tone. It was deplorable.
I’ve been trying to have my pet neutered for two months and they keep rescheduling, assuring me that they will have someone to perform the surgery each time. I took them for their word, each time, and scheduled my life and work around it. They have cancelled with me yet again. It’s fine if you don’t have the bandwidth for surgery at this time but don’t promise people it will work out when you don’t know if it will - stop wasting people’s time and refund them their money so they can get things taken care of elsewhere until you have the bandwidth again.
This place is going down. Last year during covid they left my husband and our dog sitting in the car for nearly 4 hours waiting for an appointment. This year I scheduled a routine vaccine appointment but they could not schedule it until a month and a half out. A couple days before the appointment they called and told me they had to cancel cuz the doctor was going to be on vacation so I had to reschedule in which they didnt have an appointment for another month out. 2 days before that appointment they called me to say they were closing down unexpectedly because someone had tested positive with covid and that I should call back the next week to find out when theyll be reopening. I did that and at that time was told that the vet was retiring and they havent found a new vet yet. That was enough for me. I asked them to email my pets records over. I now go to Stow Falls animal clinic. I got an appointment with them very quickly and the appointment itself was very quick and thorough.
We have been going to Stow for many years. The quality is much lower in the last 2 years. When you call they seldom pick up, when they do they are rude. Sometimes they hang up and act like they were disconnected. They have scheduling errors and act like their doing you a favor for their mistakes. If they treat the people that way, I hate to think how they treat animals left alone for treatment. They have increased the prices and are closer to a regular veterinarian.
They have been absolutely amazing with my cats, and did everything they could to help me figure out what was wrong with my eldest who was having some weird issues (hes doing well now, gained most his weight back and more active because of them). Everyone is amazing and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend it here.
We have now had numerous issues with the stow location between not being able to reach a receptionist. They screen the calls and if they don’t want to bother with you because you are unhappy because they never gave you a call back when getting a prescription filled because you need to pay them before they fill it. We were charged for 2 prescriptions but only received one but if we were to call them back to ask we won’t be able to reach anyone because they screen their calls. I needed to call them back to get my dogs prescription filled and they consistently put me on hold but my boyfriend called while I was on he got through to speak to someone right away. This is not good quality customer service and not good quality pet care as you cannot get a prescription filled for your pet. They charged us for 2 prescriptions but only got one. They are very unprofessional putting customers on hold right away without even answering the phone to ask if you could please hold. Today when we went to get his prescriptions we called and instantly placed on hold drove up to the door and then they wanted to answer because not one single worker was on the phone but yet we were on hold. Very unhappy with this location and let’s just hope we get our money back for a prescription they didn’t have but they wanted to charge us.
This is now the second time I have had a problem with them. First, had a Male blocked cat, sat in waiting room for three hours, only to be referred to their own list ofanother vet who wouldnt take our pet. Now, have a female cat who may have bladder issue, now told to try to collect cat pee without litter, have never heard of this in over 3o years.then call back. You people are making me want to go to a different vet. This is how you help your customers? Not happy. I never complained before, but you asked for my review. So there you go.
We recently took our dog here for the first time because we needed a vet closer to home. We were so pleased with the service and pricing. My dog is very anxious and despite Covid, they allowed me to walk her in to make sure she was comfortable. The staff did such a great job accommodating her anxiety and communicating with us pre and post surgery. Everyone appeared caring and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend. The only issue I’ve experienced is difficulty getting through via phone. To schedule her first exam and spay surgery, it took probably 6-8 phone calls before getting an answer.
The wait times in that parking lot are excessive. Im not even sure why theyre making appointments to be honest. Nobody gets in at their scheduled time. I was appalled that they brought my dog out to me with his toe bleeding excessively from the poor nail trim job that was given to him. I also had the feeling that they were uncomfortable even treating my red nose pitbull. The service was rushed and the information was limited. I called back a few days later for some advice about treatment, and I was directed to the answering service. Ive yet to receive a call back from 3 weeks ago. I wont return. I would prefer a veterinarian locally here in Stow, but I think Ill just find one in Hudson or Cuyahoga Falls.
It was a little nerve-wracking to have someone that doesnt know my dogs take them from the car into the building. To me, it would be better if I, knowing my dogs could walk them up to the door and transfer them to someone inside. Other then that, always have good service and experience here.
Schedule to get vaccinations and preopt stuff done for my cat back in June took almost a month to schedule her spay after that cause I could never get ahold of the surgeons and 3 days before her spay get a call saying that they had to cancel due to not having a surgeon a month after I made the appointment. Extremely unreliable and unprofessional would not ever recommend
I usually go to the Fairlawn location, but Covid has forced me to come to this location. My first visit they didn’t tell me at all what was going on with my cat. When the visit was over they had me pay and gave me no invoice or even a brief conversation about the visit. After nearly two hours of waiting I had no idea what had gone on during my cat’s examination. My second visit to pick up said cat’s prescription they had me wait on hold, or were repeatedly disconnecting the call for 20 minutes with no one in line ahead of me. While I watched on hold as they all talked around the counter.I understand social distancing and sanitation has caused problems in all businesses, but this was just a waste of my time. The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because they diagnosed my cat’s chronic condition after going multiple times to vets about the same condition. Service, timeliness, and general communication on my cat’s visits were horrendous.Edit; a lot of the employees that I saw weren’t wearing their masks correctly, or had them pulled down below their chin.
They performed a biopsy on my dog, and was supposed to send it out to a lab. We Call Them almost a month later and there is no record of them doing so in their computer. Also for some reason we have four different accounts according to them. Also they have no records of different shots that they have administered to our animals. Very poor business. I do not recommend using this business in no way shape or form! You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I came here a couple weeks ago when my dog started acting strangely at my house. I suspected he was in pain and my vet is in another state. My appointment with my vet wasn’t for several more days, so I ran him to Primary Pet Care in Stow to get him looked at. It was really busy, but for a walk-in clinic, the wait wasn’t bad at all. Tori was the vet tech that helped me. She was super friendly and very gentle with my pup. He always knows when it’s time for the thermometer! Haha. But she listened to all my concerns and made my visit awesome. The vet was really nice as well. I appreciated how well they listened to me and the honestly with which they addressed the issues at hand. It was a great experience, overall. Thank you!
Love taking my dogs here! The patient rooms are spacious, so is the waiting area and theyre very clean! Never had a bad experience here and Ive been taking my dogs here for a couple of years. Today, I brought my puppy Louie in for a per-surgical and Dustin was the vet tech that worked with him. Louie absolutely loved him! I wanted to give a shout out to him for being informative, friendly, knowledgeable and handling my dog so well. Thanks Dustin! =)
I have called to request how the practice is currently taking clients d/t covid changes , no return call has been received . I went to Stow location after waiting hours in parking lot , I asked to speak with the manager she informed me you must sign up on a sheet in morning but it was very competitive to get on it !¡!!!?! I am simply trying to get affordable pet care I am not going to compete for that, she had no answer as to why no calls had been returned . I have been going to Dr Gifford since he was at pet Guards in C.Falls , I know he would not appreciate how I was spoken to or treated by the manager ( he was on vacation ) I no longer recommend you take your beloved furry family to this practice / to compete for their care.Ginger
Reasonable prices, I was here on Saturday and am back because my dog is still sick. My original review I was upset with the member of staff who seemed rude, but a tech named Brittany came in during my appointment and addressed my concern. She was professional and friendly. This has put me at ease knowing they go the extra mile to ensure customers with an issue are taken care of. And who knows the lady up front may not have even realized she was coming off as rude. Overall I like the care given to my pets, and to my concerns. Thank you again I am definitely satisfied!
Doctor Misner is such an awesome, caring, knowledgeable and thorough Doctor that I couldnt ask for better care for my dog. Dr. Misner neutered my dog without any complications and went out of her way to schedule him for the procedure even though she had a full schedule. The whole staff is like family. They are so accommodating, make you feel like a family member and love animals.Jessica is amazing! Shes very caring, friendly, and helpful. She addressed all of my concerns after the surgery and told me to call anytime I have questions.Thank you all so much!! Youre the BEST!!
Emailed twice and called twice. Its been over a month and I havent heard back about scheduling a new patient visit (scheduling 2 months in advance for vaccinations needed in March).Update 3 months later: Even though no one called me back for my request for a new patient visit, I received a reminder text and call about an appointment they took me down for, but never communicated to me was a thing. I put a deposit down elsewhere so I called to cancel the appointment with Primary Pet Care. No response back.
Primary Pet Care was a great vet before Coronavirus. Weve taken our pets there and have had great experiences in the past. I called and made sure I could come in on a Saturday, they said it would be no problem, just to make sure I got in around 9:00. So I got there at 9:05-9:10, and gave them a call to check in. I was on the phone for 35 minutes, and hung up on twice. I finally went into the building and asked why they were not answering. They then proceeded to tell me the wait list was full and that the vet tech was no longer taking anybody in. I recently moved, so I had to drive 45 minutes to come here. It was incredibly unprofessional to not have the common courtesy to answer the phone, and let a pervious customer know they were full. I will unfortunately not be coming back to this vet for that reason. If you value your time, DO NOT COME HERE.
The only good thing I can say about this place is to see the vet it cost $45. But the vet doesnt take his time and rushes threw the visit. Didnt even take my dogs temperature or listen to my dogs heart. They where very busy the day I took my dog to be seen and I had to wait 4 hours for the vet. When I inquired about cremation prices they told me it was going to cost me $65.00 , Come to find out when my dog passed they said it was going to be over $200.If you can find another place to go you really should.
Staff up front is friendly. But if you plan on coming in during walk in hours you better have your whole day clear so that you can sit in the waiting room for 3 hours. The female vet there is holding this place down. She works through patients about as fast as a quadriplegic on a treadmill. It was so bad that even the staff were complaining at how slow she was going. It seems she has no sense of urgency and it comes at the cost of long wait times and the rest of the staff having to stay extremely late after close.
I have tried to go there twice. First time we needed to put down our sick cat. Tried to call 10+ times from the parking lot and no answer(they wont let people in because of covid). Ended up going to Banfield. This time it took 8 times for someone to pick up the phone only to be told of a sign up sheet and it would take 3 hours for my pet to be seen. Also, they told me that they probably wouldnt be able to do anything for him. Youre not a vet then. Really. They need to change the way they operate. It doesnt really matter to me anymore because Ill never go back. Horrible.
I got my cat put down on monday. it was a process since his diagnosis, the doctor had talked to me personally over the span of a month discussing options. i feel that ppc went out of their way for me. during the euthanization they were very perceptive, talked to me and gave me space and when i needed it. a few days later i got a letter in the mail signed by all the workers expressing their condolences. i’m not sure if other places do that, i’ve never been through this before, but it was extremely heartwarming
FYI to anyone going here it can not be called a walk in clinic anymore. Be prepared for 4hr wait in parking lot. You have to call from the parking lot and nobody can wait in the lobby, so what’s the point in telling people to come for walk-in? Calling ahead is pointless. They should be doing appointments but they’re not. Tried getting my 2 sick cats in there for days. I’m disabled and it’s a long, painful drive. Told I’d have to wait 3hrs just to sign the next wait sheet. Also no staff wearing masks. I guess it took a pandemic to show how poor this place truly is. They lost my business 👎
We have been taking our pets to primary for years now. Great prices and the best staff. We just recently said goodbye to our old little kitty. Although it was a very hard thing to do, the staff was so nice and even had a little blanket set up for him on the table and tissues ready for us. They didnt rush us when saying goodbye and was sincere when saying sorry for your loss. We also used the cremation service that their partnered with and the staff there was incredibly nice when over the phone as well. Just waiting to hear that hes ready for pick up.Thank you primary for being our trusted vet and making it a little easier to say goodbye.
They never answer the phone the first time you call, Ive called up to 15 times before someone answered the phone. My dog has a 50mg prescription it comes in a 40mg and a 10mg capsule (theyre the ones that prescribed it) I called to refill it they gave me the 10s then argued with me about the 40s and wouldnt fill the rest of her prescription. This has happened MULTIPLE times. I will never be back.
This place was nice when it first opened, as you didnt need an appointment, and it was less expensive. And I will say upfront that I have no issue with the veterinarians or their services. But in the past year or so, they may have become a victim of their own success, as they seem completely overwhelmed, and your time there can easily exceed two hours. Last month, I was third or fourth in line after they opened after lunch. They are not letting people into the building due to COVID, which is fine, but it was one of those July 90°+ days, so your choice is swelter outside or run your air conditioner and car for about an hour and a half, which is how long the process took. The final straw for us came this week, when I called on Monday at noon requesting a medicine refill for my dog. After work, I called to see if I could pick it up, and they said it would take at least 24 hours for the doctor to see. Ok, fine. I called 24 later, Tuesday after work, and they said call back in 15 minutes, their computers were down. I tried 4 times later, they never answered their phone. Wednesday, after work, I called multiple times, they never answered their phones. Now my dog is out of his medicine. I called Thursday, finally got to someone, said please, this is day 4 of trying to get the medication. It still wasnt ready, but they said they would do it. I go over at 5:30, call them, and pay with my credit card and they said someone would run it out to the car. And we wait, and we wait. I joke they will probably leave at six without giving it to me, and sure enough 20 minutes go by, no one comes out. I have to go to the door and knock, and when I say Im here for my dogs medicine, she says SORRY, WERE CLOSED!! I told her I already paid and had been waiting 4 days and 20 minutes, and she went back in and finally came out, after another 10 minute wait, because it clearly was not ready, with the medicine. At some point, your time becomes more valuable than saving $10 or so. Extremely frustrating.
I usually go to the Stow Kent Animal Hospital, which is a great facility, but I happened to have a day of work and decided to try the walk in clinic at primary pet care because I didnt need an appointment. I just needed some simple blood work and a check up for my cat that they could do (at a reasonable cost as well). The staff was really friendly, the facility was clean, and despite being busy--my wait wasnt too long. The veterinarian called me the next day and was very patient with all of my questions. He was also very thorough and reviewed my cats prior vet records. I still love the stow Kent animal hospital and will continue to go there, but I will also use primary pet care for some of the more routine visits that my pets need. Its great to have such great veterinary care in the area!
Place is ran so poorly now. Used to take both our puppies there simply based on the care and kindness from the staff. Now theyre very disorganized. Was told my puppy has to be seen again in order to test a UTI sample when she was just there a month ago. The organization for the sign up sheet left outside the window is lacking. Witnessed a few older people who arrived early, walking up to sign up only to be cut in front of by quicker moving people. The receptionists the last two times Ive called have been rude and failed to explain responses when asked. I guess this is another example of getting what you pay for... I would look elsewhere. Hopefully they get things together, look at retraining their staff and maybe putting some best practices in play for a better ran operation.
Very poor practices. They no longer allow customers inside even though the rest of the state is open. They wint allow you to meet their surgeon and expect you to drop off your pet with a receptionist and expect you to trust the process. I went to pick up a prescription and called in and left a message and they took several customers who arrived after me and never even called to let me know that I am on their list so Im just waiting here for close to an hour to simply pick up a prescription with no idea if Im in their wait list or not. Very poor service.
Called the Stow office to get info on setting up an appointment. The receptionist lady I talked too seemed like she was in a hurry and I was bothering her by calling in. If you don’t like your job, find a new one is my advice to her. Very unprofessional customer service. I called because I heard primary pet care is less expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. 2 thumbs down for primary pet care.
It was the best vet for our 1 year old pup. He had been afraid to go to vet but Dr. John took the time to get down to his level and talk to him and calm him and was able to look at his eyes without my pup even realizing what he was doing. The vet techs were also very kind it was one of the best experiences we have had with our dogs at a vet. This will be our new vet clinic as our dog says are very important to us and if they are comfortable with the care we are very happy! If you have a problem waiting just dont bother going there as it was a 2 and 1/2 hour wait but for us it was worth it and would do it again for the wonderful care our pup received!
I called and asked about appointments for my 6 week old puppy to get his 2nd deworming and vaccinations. I was told by the receptionist that their appointments are booked until the 29th or July but they offer walk-ins and would be open until 4pm.I saw online they take an hour lunch from 2-3 and showed up a quarter after noon. But this time half of the staff was already sitting outside for lunch. I called multiple times to no answer and finally asked a woman walking out around 12:45 what was going on.She told me they would be on lunch until 1:30 - all 10 of the employees working today (at one table, no masks, no distancing). Other than that interaction I and our puppy were left completely ignored after multiple scoffs and eye-rolls from the table.I understand that this is the cheapest vet around, and it was also extremely clear why. I’ll be going to fairlawn from not on. This stow location is pretentious and entitled with NO regard to animals or their owners. 10/10 would NOT recommend. On top of this after waiting over an hour they then refused to see us and said extremely rudely that they didn’t know who I talked to but that I would have to come back. Yet they were totally fine giving me the stink eye from my car for an hour and a half.Terrible experience. They should be ashamed to call themselves a vet.
Cons: first come, first serve, no appointments. Sometimes can be a long wait. Only one vet on duty. Not full service, they do the basics. Pros: Super reasonable prices for basic exams and vaccinations. I took 2 cats, each needing 2 shots. One needed nails clipped, and ear wash. With office fees, I paid $136. My local vet would have charged approximately $225. Dr. Gifford is very nice. There are plenty of veterinary assistants and techs to help.
Great prices! They took my cat as a first time patient walk in. I only waited maybe 10 minutes to go into a room. Maybe another 10 for the doctor to be in (nurse saw his vitals first). Only cost $30 for the office visit and they didnt charge me from getting his anal glands expressed (yum). Super friendly, nice staff too!
UPDATE: 9/3/20: I just received an email from the Manager of Primary Pet Care. She thanked me for the review and apologized for not being able to get in to see the Dr. She explained that during this time of COVID, it has been very challenging for them to get all the animals seen as needed. She offered to scheduled me on a Wednesday in the future. She also offered to have some over the counter flea meds for pick up for me. Her email was honest, polite and professionalI think the fact that she responded and tried to help speaks a lot for this practice and thats exactly why I started going there in the first place :)Im quite disappointed in Primary Pet Care. Ive been trying to get in for months since they reopened. They always have Too Many others to see before me. I need flea meds bad and the wont prescribe them unless they see her.....but they can never see her. Ive taken time off work, Ive gone many different times, but its always the same.
3 stars because the vets are great, the front counter secretaries are extremely rude. Yes we came in at a busy time but we were yelled at to sit down before we could even talk so we left. We came the next day to just get the flea and tick we needed and I was talked down to because I wasnt exactly sure what kind since my fiancé usually picks up the medication. Great quick and cheap just need to work on their attitudes
I unfortunately had to have my 16 yr old Chihuahua mix put down last week and want to give a huge thanks to the staff here! The Vet and vet tech did an amazing job comforting me and my family it’s a terrible situation but they were beyond compassionate and understanding. I will be forever great full for there kind words and actions! I also had a few experiences here with regular checkups as we just moved to this area last year and would highly recommend this location!
I have taken both of my cats here for a little bit, the staff has always been friendly and so nice. Wait times suck, but that’s to be expected. Recently it’s been a nightmare coming here. Ive gone three times in the past two months for the same issue with my oldest cat. I told the vet each time that he would need a steroid and they dismissed me. Ive spent over $200 just in these three visits to have the Dr. call after blood work is done and say “I think we need to go with a steroid and antibiotic”. I’d rather spend just a little more on one visit and get It done right the first time than go here again and have them charge me to fix the problem they took so long to figure out.
Affordable care. Loooong wait times, but thats what you should expect from a walk in clinic. Front desk staff can be short and snappy but thats likely due to the insane amount of phone calls/patients in the lobby that need helped. Vet and her tech were friendly and helpful and didnt make me feel rushed even tho there is a waiting room full of people. Ill go back...but with a book for while I wait lol.
Decent place, I like that they take walk ins. Be prepared to wait though. Every time I have been, its about an hour to get seen. One thing that is a detractor is that they dont give you an estimate on cost. After we got called and saw the vet (the actual in office meet was maybe 6 or 7 min) it was back out to wait to pay.It is affordable, but it would be nice to know what it might cost before they drop a price on you. I dont know what ear meds usually cost. Their visit costs are posted clearly on the board though.
Since you now have to call to check in you would think they would answer the phone while they were open. But oh know, I called 10 times and no one answered I had to ask someone before they walked back in for assistance. Now I did call my dogs medicine in as soon as they open on Saturday and when i went to pick it up... no problem charging my card but did not receive any medicine until I went in there and said where is my medicine. Three people waiting outside trying to call and check and there are two people sitting there not answering the phone. The employees were very disrespectful and continued to try to argue with me when I asked 5 times for them to go get my medicine so I can go back to work. Oh also since they 40,000 they can talk to you any way but you have to be nice and kind or they will kick you out of the vet. So my dog and I were kicked out and nothing happened to the employees besides a pat on the back. Would not recommend to anyone if they can treat me like that i dont want to know when my dog doesnt copperate what they do.
Pepper was critical but I was told that she was too severe to be seen by them forcing me to rush her to the nearest emergency center. I ended up losing her and I feel as if there could have been SOMETHING they could have done to help her in some way but they just put her back in her cage, meowing in misery and all, and sent us in our way. Staff was pleasant though is about all I can say about this place. Would not recommend.
Primary Pet Care in Stow has a clean facility and friendly, knowledgable staff. No appointment is required, so to be fair, a numbered ticket system is employed. The waiting room has ample, comfortable seating that gives nervous animals and anxious pet owners space to relax. Large and/or extremely active pets are encouraged to wait in the vehicle which goes a long way to reducing stress on everyone. Pets and owners are treated with respect and courtesy, and while a plan of medical action is proposed for the health and wellbeing of the pet, everything is done in progressive stages so that unnecessary procedures arent performed or medicines prescribed. The pricing is competitive and fair which is important for those without pet insurance. Nothing is worse than denying medical care to a beloved pet because of a lack of financial resources. Thanks to Primary Pet Care, that issue had been greatly reduced. And in the event the hard decision must be made, the doctors and staff are compassionate and supportive.
John Gifford,DVM is awesome. He followed up the next day via phone and email with my little dog Babys results. Even though there can be a little wait b/c first come first serve its okay. I was thinking about switching but you cant beat the great service. Even with the vet techs!
I began going to Primary Pet Care after we adopted our puppy. The office area is very clean as well as the exam rooms. It is quite evident that the stuff loves animals. I found the staff very friendly and easy to talk to (Im on the shy side so this is important to me). Their prices are very affordable. I would say for my dogs first year between routine doctor visits, routine vaccines, flea medication, and another medication for worms, I probably spent $100-$150. I would say that the only downside is they dont take appointments so if you go on a busy day there can be a wait but I say that is a trade off for the affordable prices.
I literally talked to a woman at 1050 about walkins. She told me to come on in there isn’t a wait. I came from Akron to get my pet shots, I arrived around 11, I walked up to the door and there was a sign that said stay in your car and call. So I walked back to the car and called. They ignored my phone call 5 times. I called again to finally get an answer and they told me they weren’t accepting anyone else.
The prices arent much cheaper than a typical vet and the wait time is always so long. Even when getting there before they are open. x2 when I have to make separate visits for my dog and then my cat. Their hours are not friendly at all to the people who work for a living. Ive been here a handful of times and its always a pain.
I would give this place five stars but I was upset at the very end considering they charged me 13 and some change 4 triple antibiotics that I had actually just bought right beforehand from Walmart for $4.. same stuff in it.And also they suggestive sold flea and tick medication in which came with weird lids that did not allow all of the product to fully come out of one and it ended up dripping onto my pants when I took the cap off..So we can he assured that Im not going to get fleas or text anytime soon assuming that it has been absorbed in my skin not to mention I felt nauseous after the fact and ended up with a terrible headache so make sure that if you do get flea and tick medication for your dogs or cats that you wear gloves and dont absorb into your skin.Anyways other than that I brought in for adorable kittens one in which had a horrible eye infection and his retina has busted. They prescribed us antibiotics which were relatively cheap and they said that if I needed refills that I could come back and buy some without having to have an appointment. I hope thats the case.Anyways their prices per cat visit were great way better than any other place around the area. The pre vet nurse was pretty funny. She asked my kittens had fleas and I said yeah they probably have a few because we have new kittens and we cant put treatment on them yet. So she takes a flea comb and runs it down the back of the kittens neck and upon seeing Im guessing more than just a few fleas she become startled and throws the comb straight into the garbage can with a swinging lid... I laughed hysterically I thought it was just the funniest freaking thing I had seen you in a long time. She seems very knowledgeable even though she was the pre vet looking over them. She basically answered all my questions for me and even gave me information that I didnt ask for specifically that was helpful.First real vet who came in to help her weigh them was very nice and knowledgeable. The second one seem to be very busy and although nice and flight straight to the point and able to diagnose the eye as officially blown out. She prescribed the kittens amoxicillin and gave me a quote on fixing the boy cat who keeps knocking up all the other cats.None of them mentioned though that they did not perform the surgery there at their building that I would be referred to another surgeon somewhere else in which sucks because I wasnt able to get a quote for that just a referral. Now the boy cat who I want fixed was going to be relatively cheap but its not as cheap as they said because I need the cat to be seen as a first-time visit so its actually going to run me a hundred and sixty bucks because the cat need shots and all that stuff before they will fix him, so now I have to find the money for that...Anyways the receptionist was awesome and they should probably give that woman a raise because she puts up with a hell of a lot.. that phone rings off the hook. All n all were happy...
Just wanted to purchase special diet cat food. Not allowed in to building. I understand not wanting people hanging out, but it should have been in and out. Called from parking lot numerous times, hung up on numerous times, left message finally. Still waiting in parking lot just to purchase food 25 min and still counting.
Primary Pet Care or Stow-Kent Animal Hospital? Primary Pet Care. I have had better experiences at PPC. It is cleaner, smaller, newer, and the prices at PPC seem “slightly”better. PPC will tell you the price of each recommended service, offer different options & ask for permission before care is provided. All vets are expensive. They all charge a lot. They must know that we spend money on our pets that we would never spend on ourselves.😹We buy them things we would never buy for ourselves. 🤷♀️😻😽
Took my kitten when i adopted her (she had a cold). They were so fantastic. I cldnt afford alot but they worked with me for the same meds for my kitten just pills instead of liquid..it was cheaper. And thier compassion is beyond great. They are thorough and gentle. My New vets!
This was not our first visit, prior to this I would have rated them a 3 or 4 due to wait times.Took 2 dogs for shots and a checkup. One with an anxiety issue and the other with allergies that needed addressed. I waited 2 hours with one dog having a panic attack the other barking because of the behavior. The vet tech was AMAZING with my boys. The vet, on the other hand, was terrible. He complained about the barking, recommended Prozac for the one as the only option, gave them shots, and never once actually examined them. He just walked out. He was unfriendly and seemed very irritated.
I really enjoy bring my animals here. The staff is awesome and the Dr is amazing. Their prices are very affordable and they are very down to eath. This is a first come first serve establishment. I believe appointments can be made at their Fairlawn location. But they move ya through pretty good.
Be prepared to wait an hour or more. Great prices though & very friendly staff!Im disappointed they dont provide a 3 year distemper shot. I just ended up getting the 3 year rabies. I dont agree with being forced to vaccinate my dog yearly when its clearly been shown to last at least 3 years. I dont want to over-vaccinate my pets. So, I ended up going to Tractor Supply & spent $11 for the distemper shot & while I was there I got the bordetella nasal squirt for like $8. I just went home & did the rest of the vaccinations myself. I saved a lot of money too because I have 6 pets.
We’ve known Dr.John Gifford, DVM for about 35 years. That in itself should prove he’s the best Veterinarian in Portage County today! No one could possibly love animals any more then Dr. Gifford; he treats your pet as if its his very own .Jack & Joan Brewster of Ravenna, OH 8/16/19
Arived early called and left message I was in parking lot with phone number. There message said they would call back. Sat in car for 17 min.after they opened and then heard from women who was there first that they had 9 people in front of her. I asked someone and they said I had to talk to receptionist so after 5 more calls finally got to talk to more than a machine. They said they would try and get me in after 2 hours I gave up. All they had to do is see us by the time we called machine.
It is what it is when it comes to this type of facility. It isnt a full service vet; it deals with preventative treatment at a an affordable price. So while the lack of depth of services is disappointing, they have a great business model for the services they provide at a great price. Staff is also incredibly helpful.
Everyone was very pleasant and friendly, and the prices were affordable. However, I took my cat to this vet clinic a couple months back because of some coughing and hacking episodes he was having. The acting veterinarian proceeded to tell me he was perfectly fine and sent us on on way with some worthless amoxicillin that was good for nothing. Turns out, my cat has severe asthma that is potentially life threatening on account of the condition not being detected earlier. Now, because of negligence, I am probably going to lose my fur baby forever. If you are genuinely concerned about and truly love whatever pet you own, then take them to a professional veterinarian that will administer proper care. Not this clinic.
Excellent prices and service; the staff was so kind and accommodating! My roommate and I got kitten sisters at the same time. I took my cat to Primary Pet Care, and she took hers to PetSmart for all the vet services. After we both got our cats spayed and declawed, my roommates cat was in pain and in a cone for TWO WEEKS (it was pretty pitiful... I felt awful for that kitty). My cat didnt need a cone, and she was fine after some mild pain killers- recovery was quick and easy and she was jumping around the house and back to her usual self the same night I took her home from PPC. Ive since moved an hour away from Stow, but Ill still bring my animals to Primary Pet Care. You cant beat the quality, let alone the price.
This is my first google review. My dog has a bad case of fleas. I called in to ask some questions about the medicines they offer and gave my phone number after the woman at the front desk said the Dr. would call me back to answer the questions I had. Knowing most cases, you will either never get a call back, or they will call days later. The Dr. called me back AFTER they had already closed, answering all of my questions and was very helpful and polite. The phone call back alone made me want to give a good review. Very professional.
Like other comments say, expect to wait 2 hours...and it seems that it doesnt matter when you get there they dont always go by who got there first. All that time I waited and It literally took 5 minutes for a checkup, which was pointless, as the questions I asked got little to no response, basically told me what i already knew from researching it. I told them my cat was skittish and has been swatting at people but they still just let her out of the carrier to walk around. Then they had to chase her around the room to get her and she swat at them so they had to wrap her in a towel. And if you have a free visit coupon its only for being there and getting the pet looked at, doesnt include the basic shots. I thought the whole thing was a waste of time. Better off going anywhere else.
Long wait..3 hours and I called ahead of time to ask if I needed to make an appointment, they said they dont do appointments, but they sure took a LOT of people who came in after me before my poochie was seen. Other than that their prices are more than reasonable and I love the vets and the techs there..they all really love animals and love what they do.
I go to 5 vets for the various reasons I need a vet. I LOVE this clinic for wellness checks, vaccines, wormings etc. If they did bark softening Id be in 7th heaven! I always take my pups here and know they will get a proper and thorough assessment. Its not a specialty nor an emergency clinic, but they cant be beat for general needs. The whole staff is everything you can ask. They deserve 6 stars!
Primary pet care Stow these people really care for you and your pets they take the time to explain all the stuff they are doing and what they are giving (shots) and what the side affects could be, I love these people and the care that they give my furbabies (cats) I will always refer my friends and family here. The prices are very very reasonable and they let you know a head of time what your cost will be. I will take my babies for all the needs they have.
First option when I search walk-in pet clinic. I show up to because my cat is in pain and they turn me away and tell me Ill have to wait a month because theyre booked. These people are heartless and the search algorithm is incorrect. If your looking for a walk-in clinic look else where.
I will be going back here with my babies! The care was outstanding and the prices were unbelievably low. I was afraid there would be some hidden fee or the care would suck. I was pleasantly surprised that the fees listed is the price you pay and the entire staff was very caring and helpful!Highly Recommend!!
If I could give zero stars I would. We took our cat here in fear that he had a deadly blockage within his urinary track. Our fears were met with no diagnosis and no tests whatsoever, but we were given pills and oh so graciously told about how their cat food (which cost most of the visit) will solve the problem. A day and a real vet later, our cat had a blockage and we were lucky enough to have caught it early. If you wanna spend money on food and no real solutions come here. Id rather pay the expensive fees to insure that my pet gets optimal care instead of the hack who I saw yesterday. 0/10 Never again
My dog has sepration axiety and I called him to ask if they could do something for him I took him in, I described what hes been doing and how hes actually hurt himself from freaking out. I was told to bring him in for them to say they cant do anything. What a waste of time! They have good prices but currently I feel cheated.

2022-08-03Clean environment, friendly receptionists and vet techs seem decently knowledgeable. The vet, unfortunately, has the personality of a toad. She never introduced herself, no smile- just started rattling a few things she noticed about my puppy and left the room before I was able to ask any questions. Prices are more reasonable but if you have to see her for any reason, it’s well worth paying more elsewhere.

2022-06-20Absolutely wild how different the place is over the years. My dog turns 12 next week and we’ve been coming here since he was a puppy - opted to transfer vets after my appointment today. Lobby looks sad at entry, no prices posted anymore for transparency, no bet was going to even speak to me for my dogs’ annual visit. When asked about this, the first explanation received was that the vet also works at another clinic and they’re limiting her exposure. Second explanation was another pet is critically ill and needed attention. Either way; charging an appointment fee for a wellness exam without having a vet speak to the customer (I was offered to speak to her only after complaining), is absurd. The dogs were taken in the back for their shots and “assessment”, but were back there a mere 3/4 minutes each so how thorough of an exam could it be, who knows. Just wildly different. Pricing keeps going up, service keeps going down. Sad to see what’s happened to such an amazing office that used to be full of great staff.

2022-06-20We have been coming here for years and used to swear by Dr. Gifford but now there’s a completely new staff. We’ve taken 2 of our dogs here in the past 3 months and have had such a terrible experience-we’ve decided to get them established elsewhere.-prices have doubled-exams/shots are done in a private “exam room” without the owners supervision-phone calls aren’t returned-appointments are a terror to get.Save your time and go elsewhere.

2022-06-17Worst vet ever. They treated my cat. Over a week later after giving him his medicine, he is now much worse. There is a large ball forming on his neck that is causing him to cough continuously and blocking his airways. He is going to die if we dont get him help. They will not see him. Its a Friday and they wont see him at all. I cant afford to take him to an emergency room. So now he is going to die because of something I already took him to get care for over a week ago and they dont care at all. In fact, they kicked me out as a patient. I hate them. I would never ever take another animal that I cared about in for any type of services at there.

2022-07-11AMAZING place to take your best friend! Very compassionate, friendly people! They helped me through the hardest time as a pet owner that you have to go through and I will definitely keep going here!

2021-01-11Even in the midst of covid, the staff has been great! The appointments were about a month out & and my dogs were taken in a bit late but they do the best they can. The girls came out to get our dogs, asked questions, went over health history & took them in. The doctor called us within a half hour & we were on our way. Not much difference in the service or framework except the humans wait in the car!

2022-06-20I’ve been going to this place since I got my cat back in 2010 but I will no longer be going there. The fairlawn branch is constantly closed and when they are open they are short staffed and you can’t even get your pet in. The stow branch is just as bad as it takes FOREVER to make an appointment there and even when you do have an appointment expect to be there for atleast 2 hours. I made an appointment with and I get a call from them the day before saying that they don’t have a doctor scheduled for that day. I needed to get my cat in before headed back to school and now I’m going to have to rush and try another vet before I have to go back. They also lost part of my cats vaccine records and told me that she didn’t get shots that I know she got. When I told the lady on the phone she gave me an attitude. They are unprofessional and will no longer be receiving my services or recommendation ever again.

2022-02-19We used to absolutely LOVE primary pet care - but over the last year or two things have slid downhill a bit. Went from walk-in to appointment required and difficult to get. Poor communication on call-backs etc.
