Portage Path Behavioral Health in other cities:
By far awful services. Twice I went in for appts and they told me I dont have them when I had my schedule sheet they printed off. They cancel walk ins all the time. The psychs never return calls when your in need. The staff at desks are always rude. They will literally argue with you over the phone about how they cant schedule you for at least 2 months out when your saying you need an appt put in earlier cuz your not suppose to be on the meds your on because no one switched them after an allergic reaction. Ive been waiting for a call back for over a month. My primary care had to help me. Seriously awful services. You dont know the half of it.
Beware this place likes too label your child without proper testing. He was said to have aspergers(mild firm of autism)The councilors have opinions about how they want your child to speak(example dont repeat LET ME SEE use um instead) my son stutters and he became shut down more after seeing the male counselor that day. They are polite seem nice nasty. But my child needed help from some issues and I believe they cause more. He goes somewhere else and is much better
Heres the TL;DR version: They will misdiagnose you. They will disrespect you. They will misteat you. Any success stories from this service are the exception, not the norm. That needs to change. They lack training. They lack compassion. They lack patience. In short, they lack the fundamental cornerstones of what it means to be a medical professional. And that poses more of a danger than should be allowed.I have been seeing many reviews here that mention the incompetent reception staff. I can confirm it is 100% true. Its also symptomatic of a larger issue with NE Ohios mental health services at large. This was the same problem I experienced at Summit Psych. How am I supposed to be responsible about my mental health treatments when the staff isnt responsible enough to keep my appointments straight? Having a doctor is only useful when you are able to SEE the doctor on a regular basis. Between the receptionists being unable to do their jobs right and the staff rotating every other week I never saw the same doctor more than a few times. Not to mention they werent even DOCTORS half the time. Incompetent agency on every level. Undid years of hard work, made my problems worse. Ive since left Ohio and Im still trying to find a suitable doctor. Ive never felt worse in my life. Portage Path and the greater NE Ohio mental health field should be ashamed of themselves. Im still determined to find the help I need, but I can stop thinking that people may have taken their own lives because they feel they cannot trust them se so-called professionals. Portage Path, Summit Psych, and NE Ohio in general need to completely overhaul their services.
I dont usually review a company this way; I will also like to note that its a multistory building that take walk-ins. Right in the city, and always packed. Now I called at the end of January asking if they had availablility. I was assured they did and we proceeded to schedule an intake appointment set a few weeks from placing the call.I walk into the building for my intake appointment and am immediately confused. I walk into the first doors and tell this receptionist I have an appointment. She was very unpleasant, and was due to me not being helpful enough or maybe she didnt get to eat lunch.Go through a maze of doors and am met with a super nice lady. My intake nurse. Everything went well and we scheduled for the earliest appointments available which were months away. Not uncommon for big places. Its now March, get a letter apologizing due to high demand they had to cancel my appointment. Called and Rescheduled. Its now April, get another letter with the same had to cancel due to high demand. Finally I call, fed up to speak with the rights officer, and doing so they entrusted that the next appointment would be met. This time a different doctor. Almost 30 days later I walk in, meet the same lady who couldnt be bothered to help me. To the point of I dont know why youre here either, I dont have a computer this was in front of about 3 monitors. After 5 minutes of trying to deescalate the situation, I walk to the top floor. This is a place full of people getting non stop phone calls, openly talking about smoking crack, and plenty of people pacing to the pharmacy and the receptionist, back and fourth. Asking for the doctors that are in the same room.If I would have brought my girlfriend here she would have felt so uncomfortable that she would have had to leave.Walk back finally and greeting with a nice doctor. However, he was unwilling to continue my medication plan provided by my doctor.I wasted almost 6 months to get into a place that made me feel unwelcomed, like I wasnt a priority, and most importantly just another statistic.I went to get treatment for my anxiety disorder & PTSD. I left feeling dirty, since it very well seemed like just another out-patient rehab facility. Which is not what they advertise until you see it with your own eyes.Thank goodness for my caring primary care physician, she was able to get me to exactly who I needed to. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your quality of health.
I have been going here for three years and this is what you need to know. The good: They are on a sliding fee scale and a lot of people are seen here for less than $50 a month for all the services. If you are broke and without insurance like the rest of us you can still be seen. This place has been very to good to me in that respect. Once you get in the doors, they will do absolutely everything thy can to help you. Especially the Barberton location. If you are in dire straights, they have an on-site pharmacy. They also have support groups throughout the week that you can attend. A lot of the prescribers and therapists have walk-ins scheduled weekly if you need to see someone if you are in crisis. I have had a great experience with the staff overall. The bad: never ever ever go to the Psychiatric Emergency Facility. They are rude and unsympathetic and will probably make your mental health crisis worse. When I was afraid for myself, I lied to them so they wouldn’t admit me because they told me that they would hold me against my will. (Which is against the law)They have a detox place next door and when they get overflowed, they go into the emergency facility. Regarding the regular outpatient stuff, they are super understaffed so it will take you forever to get into see someone. Because they rely on the state for funds, they are subject to cuts, which mean they have in the past cut staff or ask them to retire. They people that work for outpatient are amazing and they really care, but they are stretched so thin that they don’t seem to wanna stay there for long. My counselor has changed four times. I finally was able to get health insurance so I will be going elsewear for therapy but I will continue to go here for my prescriber. At the end of the day, this place is really good if you cannot afford therapy or if you don’t have insurance. It’ll be there for you until you get back on your feet and can do better. I still would reccomend this place for out patient services.
For your own sake don’t go here. Receptionists are rude and have attitude and it takes months to get in contact with the nurses responsible for your medications. So if you end up having bad reactions to your meds and want to either stop or have questions about them it will be impossible to get any help at all
Worst place ever! My prescriber is nice but you can’t ever get in to see her! The receptionist at the front desk is so rude and heartless. I’ve had to miss work multiple times for the walk in clinic that I arrived as soon as they opened and I still was not seen. I try to receive FMLA but it’s impossible for them to fill it out since you can never get in. I’ve gone through withdrawals because they didn’t call in my meds or they don’t return calls to get any refills. Working in healthcare I think this is the worst place I’ve ever been. They have 0 compassion. They do not care about clients.
I have been going here for 6 years now since I had last had insurance. They have had me stabilized periodically but can never get my meds right. The programs they have are great like pathways and crossroads just the medication staff could be better. Dr Achim is good but I cant see her on a regular basis.
Stay away from this place, far away! If you, or a loved one, are looking for help, do NOT go to their emergency services location. Due to the uneducated & unprofessional staff, combined with the complete lack of compassion shown here, it almost cost my loved one their life. They need to be educated & trained on Ohio laws & the help available to those who who are unwilling to help themselves. B/c of their lack of education in this area, they tell you theres nothing you can do if a patient doesnt want to help themself. But there is! Start with Caseys Law & go from there if you too have had your loved ones well-being or life put at risk by this place telling you this false information. Also, the social worker Ken should have his his license revoked & NEVER be allowed to work in any capacity of mental health again after he disgustingly LAUGHED when being told of the mental health concerns we had & our deep concern about someone losing their life. I have never in my life been so disgusted by another human being. To make matters worse, when confronted about his utter unprofessionalism, he actually tried to deny it. However, once he found out we had recorded the conversation (via an app), he tried to play the victim himself, which was even more disrespectful & disturbing. So seek help elsewhere & stay far away from this place & from Ken b/c you want somewhere that helps, not hinders, your loved one.
This place is an absolute joke. Ive had 2 appointments in the last week rescheduled 30 minutes AFTER I showed up to the office for my allotted time, them citing different reasons each time. Ive had another appointment with a therapist that was supposed to last an hour, only last 20 minutes after he was late. This place is a joke, if you have insurance, even medicaid, go with Summa.
I got to portage path been going there about a year now since i moved to akron ohio && they are a really big help staff is patient work with u have respect amd actially helped me to get on my feet && start a new life....this place treats you like family and shall i say i really close friend that they been know all they life...... O really think this place is good with people that have mental problems and not jist mental problems some us dont look at as a mental problem we jist look at it as being we a lil different from others.. 2022-07-07They provide quality healthcare regardless of your insurance or ability to pay. If you have no insurance they will help you. The reason they get 4 stars is because they are understaffed, and hard to get an appointment. Thats not their fault. As a public health facility they are underfunded. However, when you do receive care, the staff is helpful. Parking is free for patients. They offer a lot of services including medication, counseling, group therapy, pharmacy, and general health services.

2022-05-25Alright, so here is 2 my cents. While I do understand that the receptionists have a relatively stressful job dealing with mental health patients, enough is enough. They are rude, have awful body language, and make you feel like a youre not welcome. I am sorry but this is not acceptable, and they need to be replaced/ terminated. I know that is a drastic proposition, but they are the face of the organization. It isnt hard to fake being nice. Furthermore, the stakes are extremely high. This isnt Arbys where being rude to customers is irritating. This is peoples lives, some of them who are calling may be in life-or-death situations, only to be treated like the scum of the earth. They would be better served working at the BMV or a gas station where this attitude prevails. As far as the prescribers, they are mostly professional and nice people. I think Portage Path is amazing at how they help people with financial issues. However, please replace the rude women at the desk.

2022-06-17If I could give this place less then one star I would . I scheduled my appointment in APRIL . They don’t call didn’t check in . I showed up to my appointment today. They can’t find it they David was in a meeting so I couldn’t be seen. They offered to let me wait and be seen when I can. I have waited two months to be seen and they do this. Terrible and unreliable place . I would rather go without my medication then waste my time here

2022-01-10I would have to say that the its bad enough you have mental Issues the last thing you want to deal with is rude receptionists, I am happy with my therapist and thats about it. the Intake was positive and people on that side were very nice, but you really need to look at who you have greeting the public that come in for help just because we have issues does not mean we need to be treated like a herd of cattle!

2021-12-10Everyone who has provided care and support for me here has been wonderful. They are both skilled and compassionate.I like the receptionists, too. Theyve always been kind and professional to me.The system for refilling prescriptions service is just seamless. I was relieved to be able to call in and request a refill so easily, and not have to miss even one day of anxiety meds.PPBH turned my life around and brought me peace of mind that Ive never felt before. They are a priceless resource to Akron. Ive never experienced mental health care that was both of such high quality and so accessible.

2021-12-15My experience has been positive, a bump in the road at the beginning but my providers and I worked thru it to find the right meds for me. If you keep your appointments for med management and counseling you will have a good experience. The providers at Portage Path listen to my concerns and do their best to help help me help myself. I recommend this mental health center.

2022-01-27They totally completely forgot about me. No online session. No answer to calls. My meds have been out for months. The most irresponsible organization I have ever encountered. Screw the patient is the motto.

2021-07-22I wanted to wait before making a review, so I had been more established. My journey here started with my PCP recommendation and we agreed I would benefit adding mental health care to my regime than just grief counseling. There are a lot of steps in the process Ive learned. Despite the wait for my initial intake appointment, which of course felt forever at the time, but try and make an appointment with a specialist like ENT, endo, Neurologist, youll know what wait really means. Logic still didnt stop intense anguish I was experiencing before my first appointment though.I had read the reviews prior to my intake and I was terrified, for no reason, really. My intake specialist and appointment was thorough, if I had a question, it was answered. I never felt unheard, rushed or my concerns not prioritized - quite the opposite actually. Even scheduling the appointment with the doctor, we worked around schedule constraints and found the soonest appointment possible. My doctor, standing ovation! Literally. Fantastic! I probably irritate my doctor because I get word vomit, but I feel safe and secure to share some of the lower moments, vulnerable moments of my life.Im sure there are a lot of content clients at PPBH, however with the stigmas of mental health, I understand the majority do not share on public forum review sites, like Google. I wanted to share my first hand experience. If someone is seeking help and hesitant since there is a lot of negativity posted, I would recommend for them to come, form their own own opinion and in the process find the help they seek.
