Pine Club in other cities:
We went here for a business dinner. We loved the asphomshere and the staff was friendly. We had a party of 5 and they were able to get us seated rather quickly. The food looked delicious but as we begin to eat the restaurant lost power due to a storm. We had to eat dinner by cell phone camera light which spoiled the mood. They only take cash which is a huge drawback. However we will return.
You come to the Pine Club for the steaks, everyone knows that, theyre some of the best in the country. But what has improved lately is the service. Theyve gotten some new blood in there and its a pleasant surprise. Most of the wait staff has been there 30 years so they dont have to be polite, because theyre getting your money. but the last few times Ive been the staff had been exceptional, and theyre all fresh faced that havent been jaded into mediocrity yet.
I honestly think this place is over rated. The steak is delicious and cooked perfectly. But it is so noisy you can have a conversation. The salad is a bunch of lettuce with some shredded carrots. In my opinion there are several other steak houses in the Dayton area that are way better!
Come for the steak, the bone in filet was one of the best steaks I have had. It melted. The Shrimp Cocktail was also great. The stewed tomatoes are either loved or hated. I dont care for them, but my old man loves them. The salads are nothing special, but take a jar of their house dressing to go, its great.
One of the best dinners of my life. We both got the bone in ribeye, medium rare. Cooked phenomenally, served with style from our server Michele. We waited an hour+ for the table, Id wait another hour if needed, it was that good. Tip: gentlemen dont wear your hats, theyre not allowed. My mother would be proud.
The absolutely BEST steak I ever had to this date! Unfortunately, it is cash only, but still it doesnt get this place down from its 5 star rate fot me. Nice choice of alcohol as well.Another disadvantage is that not all ingridients are listed in the menu, for example I got steak with onions I did not ask for.Overall 4.75/5, with steak itself rated 6/5
After hearing the hype about Pine Club all my life, we finally tried it tonight. We were fairly disappointed and it only made us miss Grub Steak. The bread wasnt stale, but super chewy, which usually means frozen. We ordered the scallops as an appetizer. They were super teeny, battered, and fried - not my cup of tea at all. However, they were served with a dilly tarter sauce that was actually really good. The stewed tomatoes were not great; I cant believe people think its good enough to package and sell at the grocery. The steak was meh. They have to put fried onion straws all over the plate to give the steaks flavor. The one exceptional item was the lobster tail - literally the best Ive ever had - perfect texture and perfect flavor. The atmosphere was terrible. Its basically a tavern with loud, drunk people throughout. We thought it was more upscale. There is supposed to be a traditional dress code, but staff were wearing sleeveless tops (eww) and diners were wearing shorts and t-shirts. For the price there are much more tasty and tasteful choices in the area.
Ive eaten here a few times, and its always been delicious. Although in the past Ive made the mistake of getting a cut other than the ribeye. Get the bone-in ribeye. You will not be disappointed. The lobster is fantastic as well. Perfect old fashioneds. The atmosphere was nice: a relic of steakhouses of old. My only complaints were the veggies tasted as if they were frozen, and the seats were uncomfortable. You can add some padding without messing with the aesthetic.
Well, I really wanted to love this place, but it just is not that good for the money. Outdated dining experience. Sides are tiny and not very tasty. Stewed tomatoes taste like fancy ketchup. Garlic potatoes are tasty, but dry. Cabbage side was literally 3 bites and had no flavor, nor carmelization. Salads were swimming in dressing- order it on the side. The steak is the only reason to come here and the reason this isnt a 2 star review. Filet was super tasty and well seasoned, as was the bone in ribeye. Fantastic meat quality. Service was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Im bummed. Was really hoping for more.
Visited The Pine Club for the fist time and it was everything I expected and more. We planned on going about two weeks ago so I had done all my homework and watched the “Best Thing I Ever Ate” video. We waited at the bar and actually found seats. Our bartender was amazing and she gave us some pointers on the place. We only waited about an hour to get seated. Our waitress was great as well. My wife and I both got the rib-eye and it was perfectly done and tasted as well as advertised. I cannot wait to return to try something else.
Ive been here twice and I cant say Ive been disappointed with the food or the service. Both experiences were excellent. Just make sure your party gets there around the same time so you can be seated - you cant be seated until your entire party has arrived. Also, make sure you bring plenty of cash in case you decide to have some extra drinks or something especially if I have to wait on other people from your party to arrive. Ive gotten the 8 oz filet mignon both times Ive visited because Im typically almost full after eating the bread and salad. Id definitely recommend.
The atmosphere was dim lit with an old timey feel. I got a medium ribeyed steak that was made to perfection. I found the cocktail sauce average, the salad w blue cheese dressing pretty good, the baked potato to be average. The service was okay at best though. For sure worth a check out though.
Table for one at Pine Club. Filet Mignon, salad with bleu cheese dressing, baked potato, green beans almondine, ONE margarita (small high ball glass, $12.50!!!) and a 20% tip equals $74. Table for one at Oakwood Club. Filet Mignon, salad with bleu cheese dressing, baked potato, green beans, TWO margaritas (small high ball glass,$13 for both), and a 20% tip equals $62. Both restaurants provide delicious food--steaks cooked point on to my request. Differences: price (obviously) and decor: Pine Club smacks of a 1950s ranch hands vittle barn and the Oakwood Club smacks of a 1950s dinner club in bad need of a makeover. Still, guess which one Ill never go to again.
***BRING CASH***Extra long wait for extra delicious steaks! There are a lot of tables crammed into a small space, which means it can get pretty loud, so if you dont do well with crammed in with a lot of people in a confined space give this a miss or go really early or really late during service. This place is cash only so make sure youre prepared ahead of time. There is also an option to open some sort of club account where you pay monthly. We were, luckily, warned in advance and hit up an ATM on the way to dinner.Drinks:While waiting for a table elbow in at the bar for some libations. My partner got a Hennessy on the rocks which happened to be the bottom of the bottle. The bar tender sat the bottle down alongside his drink which we thought odd. As it turns out, when your drink finishes the bottle its traditional to take home the bottle. My mom had the house Cabernet Sauvignon which she liked. At the table...Bread: beware the salt sticks, those things are no joke! We found them pretty inedible. The bread comes to the table cold so that was surprising.Salad: very basic with just lettuce & a few carrot curls on top.The sides:Stewed tomatoes come as the default side and I can see why. They are delicious. They are very sweet though.Creamed spinach was a little bland, lacking salt, and simultaneously a little bitter which I found not unpleasant, but certainly odd. I would oder it again. It was better when topped with the onion strawsAsparagus was pricey for the serving size, about five stalks. We would not order againFries were just ok.Onion straws come with every steak, be prepared if you dont like onions. We found them to be a really tasty addition. The steaks:The double porterhouse was flavorful and so tender. There was a nice char from the grill on the meat closer to the bone. It comes to the table already cut away from the bone on its own plate. The server cuts the strip and filet into portions table side and divvies it up between diners. The extra heavy filet was a good portion. My partner eats his steak well done, but this time opted for medium well & butterflied. He was happy with the temp when it came to the table. This is a great place for a special occasion or a random Friday night celebrating family.
To be fair, I would rate this place around a 2, but I feel like I need to rate it lower to help balance out the unreasonably positive reviews. I took my wife here for her birthday and expected to pay a premium for an amazing meal. I grew up in Ohio (my wife is from St Louis) so when I bring her back home I want her to have a great experience here. Be that the food, or the Reds beating the Cardinals.Sadly, The Pine Club disappointed all around. The restaurant and ambiance were nice. The service was just ok. The food was less than mediocre, and the bill was high, though not quite as high as I was expecting. That said, I would have gladly paid (significantly) more for food of better quality. For a steakhouse (one of the best steakhouses in America according to Food Network, side note, who did Pine Club pay off for that?) I was expecting to have a few premium options, and was really hoping for a dry aged ribeye. I got a ribeye though they do not offer ANY aged steaks, and not only was it nothing special, it was one of the most bland steaks I have ever consumed. I have cooked better steaks on my own electric stove top. The house salad was literally a bowl of iceberg drizzled with ranch and topped with grated carrots. I joked that, I hear the carrots really make it, expecting an amazing steak to counter the sub par salad. Unfortunately, that amazing steak never arrived. I received a bland, mostly unseasoned ribeye that was slightly overcooked. I would have gotten a better steak at Texas Roadhouse! Seriously, no exaggeration. Steak at Texas Roadhouse, or off my own grill would have been MUCH better. The house special stewed tomatoes were basically Campbells chunky tomato with honey stirred in. My wife received a very disappointing order of scallops that were literally dripping with grease from the fryer. The vegetable of the day was corn. In case they havent been told, corn is not actually a vegetable...Overall, I was incredibly disappointed with this place considering the lofty reviews it has received. It is most definitely not as good as the ratings would suggest. In contrast, the Golden Lamb in Lebanon had excellent food (and lower prices!) when we treated my mom to dinner a few days later. And if you ever make it to St Louis, try Annie Gunns in Chesterfield for an amazing steak. They will not disappoint!
Was an amazing experience... maybe in the 60s. Food was alright. But its lost in time, dated decor, and friendly advice - dont look under those sticky benches. I always assume the cleanliness of the dining room represents the cleanliness of the kitchen, and its a wonder more people arent sick. I hope things have changed and theyve invested in a deep clean!!
The Pine Club is not what it used to be. I ordered a medium rare steak and got a medium well done steak. I told the waitress it was not medium rare and she said that is what the identification stick says. The steak was 1/3 fat and gristle that should have been cut off but I guess this is how they get to a 16 oz steak. I would have sent it back but it would have delayed us as everyone else had already received got their meals. I will take my business to the Oakwood Club about a half mile south where I have never gotten a bad steak and they know how to cook a steak medium rare.
We were visiting my son at University of Dayton for Family Weekend and decided to dine hear since we’d heard how great the steaks were. Since they don’t take reservations we put our names in early and then spent time in University area. It was well worth the wait. Everyone was super friendly and the filet was awesome. The side dishes were included which is not always the case at high-end steakhouses. Atmosphere was great as well - rustic but classy. Had the house Cabernet which I thought was a great pairing with the meal. Really glad we chose Pine Club for this special occasion.
My husband and I ate at the Pine Club on 2/25/22 for my birthday. I ordered a filet mignon . I ordered it to be cooked medium. When I got it, it was raw. I should have sent it back but I was afraid to send it back because I’ve always heard they might do something to it. So, I ate half of it because I knew it was costing us a good amount of money ($107.00). When I got home I had a stomach ache and spent a lot of time in the bathroom. My last trip to the bathroom was at 2:30am. I know I should have sent it back to the kitchen and that was totally my fault, but I really think I got somebody’s rare steak and someone got my medium steak. Expensive lesson learned. Also the steak knives were very dull.
Underwhelming. After all the hype, I was expecting something much more flavorful. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the stewed potatoes were pretty good. One of the claims to fame seems to be that very little has changed since the place has opened in 1947. This apparently includes the uncomfortable seating in the booths, the hand written checks, only accepting cash, and the absence of flavor in the sides. I feel like my gramma Evelyn would love this place, since she hates most things with any flavor. She was also a teenager in 1947. Maybe nobody liked flavor back then.I think I prefer the hash browns at waffle house. The quality and flavor of the food wasnt worth the atm fee.The texture of the steak really was perfect though.
The bar and bartenders if you have to sit and wait for a table are awesome. It was actually a short wait but it gave us a chance to take in the whole amazing feel and atmosphere and antique art of the place. The food and service was outstanding! By far the best steak I have ever had anywhere ever. By far! The lobster tails were fresh and cooked perfectly. The house dressing, a simple vinegar Italian was so good I would buy it in bottles if they sold it. The atmosphere from the original historic building to the antiques was an amazing sight. Beautiful. I am already planning another weekend just to have dinner there. No one will be disappointed!
This place specializes both in steak and customer satisfaction. Operating as a cash only business for over 50 years this institution will pamper your inner carnivore. With a wide assortment of scotch and whiskey, it seems the only negative thing I could possibly say is that they don’t have beer on tap. Since opening they haven’t served desert and from my understanding they never will. Coat check is available. There is no call ahead or reservations. You get seated when your entire party is present.
Great classic old school steak place. We make a point of visiting every time we are in Dayton. Very reasonably priced and they have wonderful service. Great bar which is important as they always have a full house. They do not accept credit cards so make sure to bring cash.
My dad and I stumbled in here on our road trip across the US and split the ribeye special. It was plenty of food for the two of us and was the best steak Ive had at a steakhouse in 5 years and that includes some fancy restaurants in San Francisco where I paid more than triple the price. We ordered it medium and it came perfectly cooked with pink, but no rare parts in the middle, and a perfect char on the outside. The service was friendly, quick, and to the point. Would 100% come back here.
Admittedly, I dont go for the food. I dont eat beef. But the rest of the family does, so I go. The atmosphere is amazing. The food (for carnivores) is outstanding, and the bar is top knotch. Like really. An exemplary bar. The service is fantastic and we always have a great time. 100% recommend if youre looking for a classic steakhouse experience.
Food: AService: A+Restaurant Manager (RM): D-Checked-in to wait for our table (4 people), told to wait one hour, we chose to wait outside. I duck back-in 30 min later just to check..ME: to same Hostess Mote, party of 4?RM: *not politely* Were not taking anymore tables tonight!HOSTESS: *nervous smile* Hes already on the listRM: Turns & walks awayNo big deal, maybe shes had a rough night. I dont judge because I dont know what shes gone through today/this week etc.(15 min later)The outstanding Hostess comes outside to get us, looking very hurried/worried about finding us. We go in, sit, order, get bread, salad & drinks.(25 min later)Here comes RM w/ a customer (who was more important than us) to interrupt our meal/conversation to look for said customers lost umbrella. When we are asked to search the booth we find an umbrella & pass it over.CUSTOMER Thats not it. I wasnt sitting there.RM: Orders us to, Look over there.ME: Nothing there either.RM: Climbing on to floor with flashlight in-hand to look under & around us & our tableRM: (stands) Nope. *turns & walks away with important customerNow I am an extremely over-forgiving diner & fail to point out issues w/ dishes just to avoid adding more work for someone. So this review doesnt come naturally for me. I couldve easily forgiven all of these occurrences if they were in separate visits. The dishes were Great! The wait-staff & Hostess were top-notch!Overall: DisappointingThe Restaurant Manager has her own agenda & things to get done that , I understand. But to treat customers that way is a poor show. I guess with notoriety comes the opportunity to have to serve less graciously. I/we will not be returning or recommending.
For a place that’s as recognized as it is; I expected more. My steak was good. I had the ribeye and it was cooked pretty much perfectly. My wife had the trout, and it was also very good. But the rest was mediocre. And when I’m walking out of a place paying $150 for two people, I expect more. Our drinks were fine. The liquor was overpriced, wine was mid range for pricing, and beer was priced well. Our meal came with sides. We had rolls. They were cold and probably just from a bag. We had asparagus that had no real flavor. I believe it was steamed. The spinach was bleh. But in their defense, I don’t like cooked spinach. The fries were good. The salad wasn’t anything to brag about. Some ice burg lettuce with shaved carrots on top. The house dressing was good. The Lima beans were bland. Basically just steamed or boiled. So all in all, it was an average experience for an expensive meal. I enjoyed my time, but I likely won’t be back.
Yesterday we went here for dinner! They dont take reservations so you sit at the bar until your table is ready. I was told in 1988 George Bush also had to wait to get a table so his bodyguard waited inside for him. Along with excellent wine we had the 16oz sirloin with their house sauce and garlic mashed potatoes!Great atmosphere and service!
My girlfriend And I had a night stay over in Dayton. I must say this restaurant by far has the best steaks I’ve ever had. I have eaten and some of the best Restaurants in the US and this ranks up there in my book as the best for steaks. If you have the pleasure of having Theresa as a waitress you will not be disappointed. She has worked there for over 20 years and was great. Thank you Pine Club/Theresa for a night my girlfriend and I will never forget.Kirk and Amy!❤️❤️
Ive grown up hearing about this place and was afraid it wouldnt live up to the decades of hype. Man did it surpass it! We got there about 5:30pm and it was already almost a full dining room. Everyone was super friendly, helpful, and delightful. Our drinks came immediately. The water glasses were legit never empty and the moment our alcohol drinks were finished; we were kindly being asked if wed like another. We often like to try more of the menu so will split things so we can do so. This will at times bring judgement; we didnt get this at all here and they went so far as to plate everything split and the presentation was still very nice.We ordered a cold appetizer of the half and half. The shrimp was served already detailed which was an awesome touch. The oysters were HUGE. The cocktail sauce was very mild (my date LOVED this as he does NOT like horseradish and very rarely likes cocktail sauces as a result). I simply mixed in the provides horseradish to bring it to my desired level. We were very happy we choose this appetizer. The bread is different but very good. My personal favorite was the salt sticks. Very salty as the name implies but delicious with the butter. Our main we selected was the surf and turf, ranch dressing for the salad, hash browns for the potato, and substituted asparagus for the vegetable (neither of us wanted stewed tomatoes or Lima beans).Their homemade ranch is light on the ranch flavor but not bad. Our dinner was served already split; even the Lobster tail. Our filet Mignon was rare and came out perfectly so. It was flavorful, soft, and quite delicious. The Lobster tail was perfectly cooked as well; soft, moist, and beautiful. The hash browns came out crispy on either side while still soft and golden on the inside. The asparagus was plain and not mushy but crisp. The service was literally perfect. We never wanted for a thing. Our waters were always full. We often would notice the glass was suddenly filled but never saw it being filled. They were true ninjas. Filling waters, leaving dishes, and removing the completely unnoticed. All beverages were served with impeccable timing. You so much as glanced up with a need someone was magically by your side asking how thy could help. And all of this was with a full dining room and a bar two deep of people waiting. Yet we were never rushed or felt as if we were being a bother. They are the true and undeniable standard of what service in a restaurant should be. Ive always heard the reason they dont take a reservations is because everyone who walks through the doors is treated exactly the same. If this is indeed their belief; I saw it in action during this visit.Heads up though they DO NOT take credit card.
Restaurant has a great reputation, but I found it disappointing. My wife ordered their scallops ($31). They were very small and she did not find them very flavorful.I ordered a Porterhouse - one of their less expensive steaks and I found it mediocre. Ive had better steaks at much lessor steakhouses. And whats up with Cash-Only? In this day and age thats nearly unheard of.I suppose many people are fond of the throwback atmosphere and have been coming for years. Ill be going somewhere else.
A perfect Dinner at one of the top 5 Steakhouses in the Country! The Pine Club! What else can we say but Excellent! To wait is a privilege not a sacrifice, even for the late President George H. Bush. The atmosphere, staff and food are well worth a little extra schmoozing time with old and new friends around the oval Bar. Kudos go out to the Bartenders also. Great handcrafted cocktails and a nice variety of Suds. The Waitresses are truly awesome, friendly and professional. The softly lit wood surroundings pair nicely with everyone and everything right down to their signature dinner rolls from Ashleys Bakery up the street in Oakwood. Even the cold butter is awesome! Salads are fabulous and generously topped with famous scratch made dressings. I love the Thousand Island! The Meats are Prime cuts, trimmed, aged and to die for! I ordered the Bone in Filet Mignon Medium. It arrived warm, so tender, juicy. Pure perfection! My dinner came with 2 sides, one of which was their famous crispy onion straws and asparagus with hollandaise. Life at that moment was so perfect!! Honestly, Owner Dave Hulm and notable staff are excellent stewards to such a wonderful Historic Culinary Landmark in Dayton, Ohio. Great job gang! Well be back soon!
Party of 5. Waitress was great. Atmosphere, disappointing (Old school, but not classy. Booths. No tablecloths.) Those of us that ordered a steak thought they were fabulous. Everything else, including sides & bread...meh.DO NOT order the scallops. They are tiny, fried, unseasoned, & soggy...served with tartar sauce. Yuck
When you enter the Pine Club you will travel through time back to the 1940s. This place hasnt changed since they opened in 1947. No reservations allowed, so have a seat at the bar and order up a classic like a French 75. Jackets are not required, but they do expect you to look presentable, and no hats allowed. They are world famous for thier Bone-in-Rib Eye steak, nicely seared on the outside and bloody rare in the middle. This is definitely a place you must visit, rated in the top 10 steakhouses in the world by NY Times.
Do not visit this restaurant. They do not accept credit cards. I come to town on business and cannot expense cash meals. Any restaurant, especially an expensive one like this one that doesn’t accept cards is selfish, short sighted and not smart. To save a few % points in credit card fees, they are sacrificing 20-30% increase per customer in sales. I would love to visit this restaurant, but will not until they change this policy. Would recommend others to do the same.
The atmosphere was classic. The energy was great! We sat at the bar while we waited and my Manhattan was delicious; ended up being my favorite part of the night. Once we were sat, our server seemed like she was done for the night and just wanted to go home. The bone in ribeye stake was delicious and cooked perfectly. The asparagus was not worth the 4.50 up charge. Over all the meal was good, not great, but good.
The building itself and decor is really cool.Dress code not at all enforced seeing people in hoodies and athletic shorts. The food is very meh. I wanted to like it and I was really wanting to like my meal with seeing all the accolades the restaurant has received.I had the bone in rib-eye and it was severely undercooked. Ordered medium and it was rare if not a touch under that. Maybe my tastebuds are wired differently but to me the steak also lacked flavor. Fries are frozen I’m guessing from Sysco.A very expensive underwhelming meal. Looking forward to trying Oakwood Club at some point.
A staple of Dayton that does not disappoint. The menu has changed and service is not what it once was. However, the food is still great and the service is good. A bright spot is they have, thankfully, not adopted the machine gun style of service where you get to meet every server on duty during your meal. One table, one server- at least that way i know who to tip. The food is prepared correctly and very tasty and the service is friendly but rushed. Price is more than some like to spend, but if you eat out to get great food, good service, and have a relaxing evening then it is worth it.
Its just not as good as the hype. The steak was very good; no doubt about that... Though the sides were not. All the sides were greasy, lettuce for salad was sad, vegetables kind of watery.Go for the steak and a cocktail, and enjoy the old-school atmosphere, but skip the sides.
Wow!! Who wouldve thought that you would get one of the best steaks dinners ever in Dayton Ohio?!?! But thats what you get at the Pine Club. A great old school steakhouse with dark wood interiors, old school booths and a classic bar. Service was excellent and the steaks were even better - if thats possible. We tried the porterhouse and bone in rib eye steaks and both were served with a tasty salad and sides. The Pine Club is one of the best steakhouses we have ever been to and well worth your time if youre ever in Ohio. Oh - and its cash only so come prepared.
A+ service, B+ quality of meat, C- flavor of the steak. In my opinion you are paying for the service and mystique that is Pine Club. Steak was a tad disappointing for the price, but they do make up for it with their service. Would be nice to see some additional cuts or aged steaks on the menu
Always a wonderful meal! The environment is like stepping back in time. Dining in is an occasion every Daytonian should experience at least once in life.My wifes and my porterhouse steak meal for two was perfectly medium rare; perfectly seared and well-seasoned. Our cocktails were generous with the spirits — but not aggressive — and delicious. Besides cold, gummy mashed potatoes, the sides were wonderful. In this time of COVID-19, the staff has clearly been instructed to shuffle guests off their tables as quickly — though politely — as possible, as our check was brought to us without our requesting it.
10 people, a 2 hour wait, all first time diners for my birthday dinner and we were treated like COMPLETE trash by our waitress (Linda?) on 03/13. She was so inattentive, very dismissive and displayed obvious aggressive behaviors toward every person at the table and it was entirely too much to deal with, management was little to no help at all and Im not sure what good that did anyway. The food was delicious, steak cooked to perfection, its disappointing we didnt get to enjoy it in the manner or experience that establishment the way we wanted to. I was so over the treatment, I just boxed up my food and took it home. Shame on her for treating people the way she does/did and shame on management for not doing more about it. Three stars is being generous.
This is a Dayton institution. Steaks are top quality and perfectly prepared. Service is excellent. Basically an old school steak house and within that realm they are king. Perfect for a date night or small get together. Prices are what you would expect for the quality. Be aware they do not take credit cards. Cash, check or in house credit account. They also do not take reservations.
Great food and service. We went on a Wednesday, arriving about 6:00. We were immediately taken to our table. Our waitress was great! She was very knowledgeable, answering our many questions with patience and a smile. Our steaks arrived quickly and were cooked as requested. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere is rather loud, but what do you expect for a nationally renowned steak house? The knotty pine takes one back to another time.
Went in on New Years Eve, Chris the manager promptly greeted my fiancé and I at the door. He then escorted us the bar bar where we immediately sat down and enjoyed a drink while waiting for a table. The food was top notch, steak was cooked to perfection and Chris the manager made the night one to remember! Will be returning again and again!
We had our very first annual Christmas dinner here last night. We weren’t privy to the no credit/ debit card rule (I never carry cash) however Chris the manager was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and took care of us. The food is AMAZING I had the lamb chops which were to die for! Everything from the creamed spinach To the rolls was AMAZING and fresh. the portions and flavor make up for the prices so don’t let that scare you awaylol. Don’t even get me started on the wine selection! The wait was a bit long and the waiting area was a little cramped as it was next to the bathrooms and we were in the way. after we were seated the food didn’t take long to come out and our waitress was also phenomenal. We will definitely make this an annual thing for our company! Wonderful choice glad we opted for this place instead of J Alexander’s!
Food was as usual...GREAT! But our waitress, Candy, never smiled once. Was very rude and took my half-eaten entree without asking if if I was done, or if I wanted a to-go box. She claimed shed been there for 25 years!! Also, the week before we ate there outside. Our waitress was also rude and only interested in flirting with a table of four U.D. students seated next to us! I had just received the bill, had despite her behavior tipped her 35%, and she never said thank you or goodbye. I called her over and told her of her gaffe and she was obtuse to my message. Blew my mind! The waitresses there seem presumptuous and entitled. I may NEVER go back, or avoid those two blond, unprofessional staff members, IF I DO go back.
We waited at least 15 minutes before our server came to even take our drinks. Following that, she didnt tell us her name, look us in the eyes, or even give us enough silverware even after asking twice. She messed up one of our orders, put three of us on the same bill, and shorted us on the change we received back. The food was decent but the service was terrible. Could have done without this experience...🙄
It was a pretty good steak. Our server was marvelous! The only issue we had was my friends steak was tough and had a very thick sear line where the meat was cooked well. I got a ribeye and it was perfect & the fillet wasnt at all. We had a somewhat large group and I only heard the one complaint, but it wasnt well cooked. Not sure how many of the folks at the other end of the table know their steaks like I do. I would go again, but still love Carvers, Flemings or heading to Cincinnati!
Bad news out of the way first; my god the old fashioned is awful. Ordered it while sitting at the bar waiting for a table. Disgustingly sweet. Like if Don Draper was purposefully trying to get type 2 diabetes. Anyway, not really a big deal, get wine/beer, and go to Century Bar afterwards and get a perfect one. That out of the way, the rest of this place is perfect. Dark and intimate. My porterhouse was perfect. Bernaise and shrimp cocktail also were great. The seating policy (no reservations) is egalitarian. Cash only is annoying and usually a star off (i hate ATMs) but the place was so perfect who cares. If you love here definitely go, and if youre visiting Dayton (wierd) this is a must do.
The Pine Club is always a great place to eat. The fillet mignon was cooked perfect as ordered (medium) and tasted marvelous. The lobster was also very good, my wife shared some with me. The service was excellent, and we had a good time. This truly is one of the top steak restaurants in the world, and we have it right here in Dayton. I am not a fan of Lima beans (the vegetable of the day) or the stewed tomatoes, but that is not why I came here. I did get the tomatoes and they were fine. The free bread and coffee at the end was also nice added features. The bill for the two of us was just under $100, and I was expecting it to be something like $130+, so well worth it. Always worth the stop.
I wanted to leave soon as I got here, but my husband insisted on eating here. Upon entering they took our number they called so we went in dude at the door immediately placed us at the bar so we ordered drinks (assuming we could order food) after our drinks came I asked for a menu (which I did not get until the 2nd request) then the bar tender informed us we couldnt eat at the bar. While drinking looking over the menu the bartender didnt check back with us. I was so nervous in there when we placed our order I was so ready to go. I just think we were not properly greeted and he assumed cause were black we just wanted to drink. I felt like that was my last day on earth if we didnt leave. The food was ok I just never had bread served in a to go bag. My spirit rattles here...🤨🤔
I had read quite a few reviews on the place (most of them were fairly negative). We got there early because we didnt want to have to wait for a table. I agree that coming in from outside was an adjustment for the eyes because it is pretty dark inside the restaurant. However, my eyes adjusted quickly. It was most interesting to me that I had read many negative reviews about the service. Our waitress (Debbie) greeted us as soon as we came in and she did a wonderful job serving us and making recommendations. We asked about the salad dressings that they sell and she brought us out a sampler. I cant say anything at all negative about the service. Our food was very good. My date said his steak was in the top three steaks hes had in his life! The stewed tomatoes are fabulous!!!We purchased some salad dressing and stewed tomatoes to bring home with us.
The atmosphere and the history to Dayton with this restaurant was interesting. We went with a couple who have been there regularly. The service was good except for my medium well filet the waitress described as a small strip of pink in the middle was just lightly brown on the outside. To save time I traded for my husbands strip steak also ordered medium well, but more like well. The waitress did offer to take the filet back to the grill, I just wanted to enjoy the meal while the rest of the group was enjoying theirs. During our wait for our table we had drinks at the bar. We were required to pay the bar tap before being seated at our table. So we paid cash but the bartender did not give us a receipt. When we paid by check, once again no receipt was provided. Their cash and personal check policy makes it complicated for a business expense. A receipt should be automatically provided.
First and last visit to this “timeless steakhouse experience”Arrived and parked to see what appeared to be cook and kitchen staff hanging out back dragging about. We looked at each other and said maybe we should go somewhere else. Bucking up we said let’s see this through.Upon entry the greeting lacked professionalism expected with “timeless steakhouse experience”.They asked one of the gentlemen working they needed two more place sets. He shoves the two existing aside and throws the menus on top. Proceeds to the back and returns with two place sets. Clearly by his actions and placements he wasn’t in a cheerful mood. The napkin he brought out and placed in the center of the paper place mat was wet. Second red flag!In the end we quickly ordered, ate and left.Very disappointing and clearly not a “timeless steakhouse experience” although one we learned our lesson from, never return.Don’t dress up for a nice evening here, more of an over priced local pub atmosphere!
Went to Pine Club for the first time on New Year’s Eve. Even though they were packed, the manager, Chris, greeted us at the door immediately upon our arrival, and escorted us to the bar while we waited for a table. The bartenders were great, the server was helpful when it came to ordering, and the food was amazing. I highly suggest the oysters, filet mignon, and lobster. I can’t wait to go back again!
Very mediocre. The steak was the only good dish here. The fries tasted like they were made from a green potato. The bread served as an appetizer was horribly salty, a bad texture, and cold. The other side dishes were very lacking for a place with such a reputation. I understand waiting a while to be seated, but I think this restaurant would provide a better experience for customers if it allowed reservations instead of standing around for an hour such a cramped and noisy place. I usually dont leave low reviews, but this place was seriously not good in any way, and Ive had better steak at lower tier restaurants.
I was part of a group of 10 that went to this restaurant last week. The food was amazing! I understood going in that this was cash only, but didn’t realize they would not split the check until we asked. All 10 of us were hoping to have an individual bill; while I understand this isn’t ideal for the waitress, we are paying 45 dollars per plate...seems like a small request for a higher priced meal. But we agreed we would just split it at the table. After dinner, we were going over the bill and realized she had thrown an extra porterhouse on our bill. Not sure if this was intentional or an accident, but it was suspicious. I say all this to say it was excellent food, but be sure to check your bill!! I will go back but never with that many people. Hope it helps!
This place did not live up to my expectations as the best steakhouse in Dayton. It might have been the best place in town 20 years ago but now has lost its charm. Very dark I could hardly see my food or the dirt on the floor. Staff look like they were just going through the motions. Weird rules just to sit down. They do not take reservations. The salad was watered down. The steak was nowhere near what my expectations were. I have had better in Dayton. The price was as expected.
The food was good but nothing to rave about. All the sides I tried were pretty good, as was the steak. I ordered the filet medium rare and it came medium rare. Service was good, reasonably attentive and friendly. It was pretty dark inside, initially I had a hard time finding my party that was already seated as it was so dark, but I called them and eventually I found them. The booth was cramped, so be prepared to get cozy. Wine selection was good, I enjoyed the 2 glasses I had. Portions were also just about right for me, not too much, not too little. Some steakhouses seem to think more is always better, while others charge you an arm and a leg for a few peas and a sliver of meat, but this place was in the middle, reasonable portions. Im not sure I would have been willing to wait an hour for a table here, and the prices were on the higher side, but overall it was a good experience and would be willing to come again.
Husband and I moved here in February right before pandemic and just got around to trying out the famous Pine Club! We walked over for outdoor dining and WOW what an old school steak house vibe! Everything was a la carte so it does get pricey fast but it was a treat for a date night in our little neighborhood. Steaks were A-One!
Great Dayton tradition for steaks. Been around for 75+ years and stillserving from original single location. The draw is its tradition and manyfamous guests. But its very noisy !! If you must go, sit in one of the booths on side of bar. However, for equal or better food and much better atmosphere, go south on Far Hills to the Oakwood Club !!
We ordered medium well steak and it came red and bloody. Sent it back and it returned slightly better. We had to take it home and microwave it, to eat it.The rest of the meal was just okay. I was probably more disappointed because this place was on the food network as the 2nd best steakhouse in the Country. Oh, and be sure to take Cash because they dont accept credit cards. $$$ The waitress was the bright spot, she was the only saving grace
The steaks are always amazing. Best Pittsburgh cooked ribeye in the tristate area. Two things keep me from rating it as five stars, their lack of classic cocktails and their side dishes (other than their potato options). But with steak as good as this I’m more than eager to go any time.
I had to go to this landmark Dayton steakhouse. Bread to start...fair. I had shrimp cocktail, and the wife had Oysters on the half. Shrimp a little overcooked, oysters were great. We both had salad, I mean Iceberg and carrot shavings. Thats it. That was a 2 star. I had a fantastic ribeye, but not the best ever, and the wife had the filet, which I tasted and it was pretty good. Sides were bland at best, so a baked potato was a winner. And for dessert we had....nothing....they have no dessert. Disappointing. Cash or checks only. No plastic. All in all, my great steak outweighed the other disappointing items, and kept the score at a 4.
Was very excited to try this place, but it does not live up to the hype. Got a ribeye that tasted like it was cooked in a microwave and left under a heat lamp. I would expect it to be cooked under a broiler and have some char on it. I dont see how it was even close to 22oz at probably 1/2 thick. The sides were most definitely out of a can. Not sure how they have such good reviews. I will say the bar staff was fantastic and made very good cocktails. Our waitress was also very nice and professional.
We took our friend there for his birthday last night as a treat because we had heard this place had amazing steaks and wanted to give it a try. First off, if you’re under the age of about 45-50, I would suggest going anywhere else. The food came out quickly but only because they don’t take the time to season anything. A little salt and pepper goes a long way. The only good thing we had was the bone in ribeye. One of us got that and it was great. The liver and onions was sub par and the onions were barely even cooked. The strip steaks were absolutely tasteless. They were cooked well, I’ll give that credit. But absolutely nothing else had flavor. The asparagus is steamed and has some random sauce thrown on it, so it tastes like grass. The salad was huge chunks of iceberg lettuce, carrots, and a pound of whatever dressing you choose. My baked potato had nothing, not even salt on it. The fries were decent, but you can get decent fries just about anywhere. We paid about $200 for the 4 of us and walked out with the idea that we could have gotten better food at an Outback Steakhouse or Texas Roadhouse. We will not be returning. I’m not sure if they are paying people to leave good reviews or if people just have absolutely pathetic pallets but the amount of good reviews blows my mind and that’s what made me toss the bad reviews to the side and try it anyways, I suggest not tossing my review to the side. It could save you some money and time!
Ive been there a couple of times and enjoyed it immensely. The pork chops were thick and very tender. Its a place that I enjoy on special occasions. Its a little bit expensive but the food and service is so worth it. If you love a thick chop or steak you should definitely go here itll ruin you for steaks or chops anywhere else!!!!
I heard for years how renowned the steaks and the ambiance of this classic Dayton establishment were. I took my wife here for our anniversary dinner. The feeling once you walk into this establishment is what you would expect from a traditional fine dinning establishment. Dim lighting, older intact woodwork, uniformed wait staff, and pre-set table settings. Four stars all day long on apperance!!!! However, a few upgrades are probably needed due to the age of the restaurant. The steak dinner is where the wife and I were disappointed. I was craving and expecting mouthwatering steaks. However, both steaks were bland and dry based on how we ordered. The rest of the meal including our drinks was fine, but the steaks missed their mark. For the price and hype (voted best steaks some years ago) I expected the best quality meat and cooking, but only recieved Logans Steak House quilty food.I will try again at some point and make a final decision based on that experience.
We arrived with no reservations (do they even take reservations?) and got to sit at the bar for a couple of expensive beers while we waited. Service at the bar was good but no one was eating, just drinking and waiting for a table. For dinner, I went with their 12 ounce strip loin steak. A very good cut arrived, filling the plate and with a mound of fried onion strings (I moved them to my friends plate) and for side
Overrated. Also, inside the bar is in the same room as the diners, and there is no social distancing. (In a 2000 mile road trip, this is the ONLY place I felt unsafe.) Its expensive. The steak was good but no better than a Texas Roadhouse, at 3x the price. My salad was only lettuce. The ceasar salad dressing my companion had was homemade and tasty. The bread basket is attractive, but who eats that much bread? My choice of vegetable was stewed tomatoes or lima beans, with anything else a la carte. No desert menu. I was very disappointed.
If it is something that you have never done before you probably missed the best restaurant in the city of Dayton been going there myself 50 years and Ive yet to find a steak that tastes as good and its delicious as their steaks do all the house dressings the shoestring onion rings and even the stewed tomatoes are something you crave after you havent been there in a while hope the place last there as long as I live and as long as my grandkids live because they will end up theyre eating a steak in the not-so-distant future
This Dayton institution never changes in all the right ways. The steaks are prepared perfectly and seasoned sublimely. The service is friendly but to the point. The cocktails are stiff and the wine pours are generous. And the friend onions that each steak comes with. You cant beat the fried onions. You can expect a wait but theres usually room at the bar to sit while your table opens up. Cash only, unless you have a house account.
All six of us ordered the filet. Five of them were exactly as ordered (medium or medium-rare), including mine which was one of the best steaks Ive ever had in a restaurant. The sixth one, however, was a little over done. My brother politely asked for a new one and our waitress could not have been more pleasant. He had a perfectly cooked, medium-rare filet in minutes. The the house salad dressing and fresh asparagus were also excellent.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner there this last evening and found our new favorite restaurant! We both had the bone in filet and wow, was the best weve ever had. Great service with a greeting and handshake from the restaurant manager at the end. Perfect night. We will be back next date night!
It was a good place to eat. Some of the food wasnt cooked as I requested & the service was a off but overall the food was enjoyable enough to visit again. The prices are a little high on some dishes. The staff were kind of friendly. I did receive a few looks as I was dressed semi casual. It wasnt until we spent a great deal of money that they came around.
The steak was excellent, but because of the price I have to rate keeping that in mind. The salad was uninspiring which is unacceptable for the meal cost. The steak itself was cooked excellent and tasted excellent. The bread is pretty tasty, and the sides were okay, but I expect better for the cost. Cash only is a pain.
The food was good, I cant knock that by any means. However when Im spending that much, I want personable service, decor that doesnt leave so much to be desired, and most importantly not to feel theyre just waiting for me to finish eating and get out so they can turn the table a few more times. Again, the food is every bit as good as purported, but Ill gladly take my $$ where Im appreciated as a customer and that wants to provide a great experience not just good food to someone who is nothing more than a dollar sign to the employees.
Fantastic steaks. Nice atmosphere. Get there early on the weekend. AND YES THEY ARE THE BEST IN OHIO. I think some of these 1 star ratings are comical. You have no taste clearly. Been in business for 70 years for a reason. Maybe a pan fried steak at wafflehouse is more your speed.
Very nice, food was good. I was somewhat disappointed though. With the high ratings they received from various places, I expected a bit more. The service is spectacular, and very efficient. I found the side dishes particularly the sauteed mushrooms to be rather bland. My steak was good, but again, not memorable. Prices were very reasonable considering the venue.
Found this place to be over-rated. I understand it is iconic but it is sorely outdated. I expected it to be pricey but other than the steak - which was excellent- the food was mediocre. The shrimp was some of the worst Ive ever had. I wouldnt have served it at home. The waitress was rude and condescending. A real disappointment. Seems they are riding on a past reputation they no longer live up to.
Oh yes the Pine Club !! Ive been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. Its been voted one of the best steakhouses in the country for a reason . Its an old school steakhouse but it has a great atmosphere . The steaks are aways perfect and the drinks are good and strong. The staff is great and on point . This is the best steakhouse in Dayton and there prices arent over the top . I highly recommend !
I had the lamb chops & they were delicious however I had them cooked medium and I feel they would be best medium well or well. I wanted the prime rib but they were out of it already & it was early. They have a basket of bread at your table it would taste better warmed. I Loved how the coke came out in a small glass bottle. Ringo Starrs band was in there eating also. The seating was to close for comfort however, the Pine Clubs been around forever & I respect that. The lady who takes your name at the front door is GREAT !!! I loved her. She makes you feel welcome. This is a upscale restaurant so dress accordingly.
The Pine Club deserves every accolade as being one of the premier steakhouses in the USA! The absolutely delicious 40-day dry aged beef steaks, topped with crispy onion, are beyond description and compare. The service is great. Get ready for the best steak youve ever tasted!
Dated and over priced for the modern world. Anyone that ranks this as a top ranked spot of any kind needs to explorer the world of food more. Sides are lack luster and bland, the stewed tomatoes taste like Campbells soup with chunks. The steak is below average for the price point on it. This might have been a great place once but they have declined. Every time I have gone I leave wondering how they keep the doors open. Loud and hard to hear each other speak, cash only just another reason to pass on this place. Usually see older folks in the tables have that feeling they grew up with that placing being THE steakhouse of Dayton but as this older generation moves on can not see the younger falling for this poor excuses of upper class restaurant.
Why, why, why is this place rated so highly? I have always wanted to go to the pine club because it has a great reputation. Finally got to a point in my life where I can actually afford it, so I went. It was one disappointment after another. You walk in and it looks like a dive bar straight out of the 70s. Its lit like somewhere you would take a tinder date you didnt want to get a good look at. We get seated and the entire place is just crammed together, had to shimmy my way between booths and I am a skinny guy. So we order our food and the waitress is offering all of these sides, so we order what we want and move on. Then they bring out the salad which was just iceberg lettuce with a few carrots in top. So we finally get our meals and my girlfriends filet looked more like a sirloin. My steak was partially rare partially medium, not medium rare throughout. The asparagus had no taste at all. So we get the bill and there are 2 mystery charges on there, $6 and $4. Turns out all of the side options the waitress gave us were not included in the $45 base price for the meal.... they also brought us onion straws, which we didnt order and were an additional 2.50 a pop. Total bill $95, for 2 people, which wasnt surpising. Between drinks and the meal I spent 135 and it was one of the worst experiences I have had. Went to Firebirds 3 days later and had a better meal and experience for half the price.....
Only go there for the steak, I guess. I just went to treat my dad for his birthday and left feeling utterly cheated. In fairness, I will say the two people with me liked their steak and bread, but I didn’t ask them about their sides. I know one person was mad that the salads were just iceberg lettuce.I don’t eat big steaks, so I was going to get the pork chop instead. But my brother suggested the scallops. BIG MISTAKE. Nowhere on the menu did they say they were fried, but they were. They tasted like they were from the freezer and they were extremely gritty. I also upgraded to the Lyonnaise Potatoes... I saw the onions in there, but I couldn’t taste them. Nothing was seasoned at all. I ate the scallops, the salad, and the vegetables because I was utterly starving, but I was so hungry when I left I had to stop for more food on the way home. I wasn’t going to waste the most expensive hash browns of my life, so I’ll fry them up tomorrow with some spice and other veggies.
The meal was good, but compared to a few other places in town, I just dont think it lives up to the hype. And the one thing that I hated was that we felt rushed. We went on a Monday and it wasnt super busy (which was awesome) but I felt like they couldnt get us out of there fast enough, even though people werent waiting for tables.
Average table in that place was well over $100 tab.Ring Ring....Hello Credit card... This is Cash... Your Win!!!!!!No credit was a bummer.. (walk of shame to the sketchy sunco ATM across the street)Server was rude and slow.I wanted this place to be awesome. I was celebrating with my wife.It was my 1st and last time going.Pros:Steak was 9/10Bartender awesome and bar was stocked well.
The Pine Club in Dayton Ohio is a wonderful place to take friends or family for an enriching night. Inside, it has lower lighting and may pose some mobility issues to some. It is often busy especially on the weekends and doesn’t offer the most room to move to and from your table. However, I have found the staff to be highly accommodating and welcoming. If you attend The Pine Club, expect a great meal and be prepared for an environment slightly on the busier and noisier side.
My husband and I cannot understand why this place is so highly rated. I understand the idea of the charm of not changing anything since 1947.... except at least having cleanliness. Floor was very dirty. We happened to be seated right beside where they emptied all the dirty dishes which smelled terrible. Waitress was not very friendly. Dressing is good but Salad was just iceberg lettuce and carrots that was so soggy we couldn’t finish. Steak was fine but not very flavorful. Rolls/bread tasted stale and the one type had so much Kroger salt on top it was impossible to eat...and the bread was cold. Mashed potatoes had zero flavor, zero salt, and my husband couldn’t eat them. My asparagus was over steamed and again had no salt, no flavor, and tasteless hollandaise. Cabbage and bacon was TERRIBLE and the fried scallops were mediocre and overpriced. Words cannot describe how dissatisfaction we were with the whole experience. $124 and we left unsatisfied.People are crazy to like this place! I do not recommend! They are holding onto a past reputation that is no longer valid. If I could give zero stars I would.
I have try it twice. Found the staff to be rude. The menu to be antiquated. The steak subpar for cost. It is dark and dingy decorated. It might be a Dayton institution, but I could find 10 better places to go. That would appreciate your business. But if you just love stewed tomatoes. This is the place to go.
Writing this review as I eat. Hmmm, so in town visiting for work and had to grab dinner here as told by locals. So the waitress was kinda rude but maybe it was just her personality. But theres a sarcasm there and it makes you raise an eyebrow. Idk. So cash only. No credit, debit, nothing. Cash only!! Ordered the 12 oz sirloin steak dinner that comes with salad, baked potato, veggie, plus the bread on the table (which by the way is VERY salty!!!) Got my salad so far. Basic salad, a three year old could make it. Iceberg lettuce, chopped carrots. House dressing is good though. Received our food now. Baked potato was really bland. Had to doctor it up so much. The butter is unsalted and the sour cream is tasteless. The corn also tasted out of the can and also bland. Now the steak, that was really good! Good size too! Overall this place is known to be a steak house, and the steaks were really good! But everything else, was blah. Have I had better steak dinners? Oh yeah absolutely. Do you need to break your neck to get here? Not really. Overall it was an okay experience. Once was enough for me.
We didnt want a big meal so didnt order the Pine Clubs signature steak. My cheeseburger was surprisingly mediocre and overdone even though I confirmed medium was still red to pink in the center. It was small, pretty tasteless and they put a slice of American cheese on top. Honestly, Ive had a better burger at MacDonalds. On the other hand, my husbands double decker BLT was truly impressive, with delicious (and lots) of smoked bacon and the rest. Still love the Pine Club for atmosphere and nostalgia (my parents, both now gone, had dinner there every weekend) but go when youre hungry and want a steak, or stick with the BLT.
The steak at the Pine Club is 5 stars worthy, however everything else about it drags them down. Recent talk about them being listed among the top-5 steak houses in the U.S. by Food Network sparked some interest for me to give them a try. There is no question that the place lives up to its reputation of being outdated by several decades. That in itself isnt a problem, as I dont think every restaurant needs to look and feel the same way. However, I do think they need to bring their overall feel and vibe up to modern times. Im 30 and was on average 1/2 the age (or more) of the other patrons. They need to try and appeal to the younger generations, as some day theyre going to need them to stay in business. Step number one should be accepting credit cards; its 2015 and no longer acceptable to expect people to be carrying cash. From that aspect of the experience I deducted one star. Secondly, their sides are unacceptable for a top-notch steak house. The famous stewed tomatoes might as well come from a can, the baked potato was dry and tasted terrible, the salad came from a bag of chopped iceberg lettuce (the ranch dressing was very good and likely made in-house), and the bread was nothing special. For a place serving such a fantastic steak I dont understand why they wouldnt bring their sides up to date and offer something equally as mouthwatering. For that, they got another star deducted. In summary, if youre looking for a perfectly cooked piece of meat, this is the place. Unfortunately, they dont offer anything else to accompany the steak. At this point I just question who got them on that top 5 steak house list, because there is no way they earned it on their own.
Will never go back, it was like the Gestapo. We are from Cincinnati, we were meeting someone from Columbus, we asked for a table of 4, the Columbus people were stuck in a hotel function, they called our name and they wouldnt seat us without all 4 being there. We told the couple this and they said they would try and get there after dinner to meet us at the bar for a drink. We waited again and were seated in a booth. We were just about to get our food and the couple showed and sat down with us. The hostess, waitress, manager told us this was not allowed. They acted like we lied to them which we didnt. We told them the couple would order drinks and appetizers which they did, we were still treated like we had committed a crime. We will never return, talk about unfriendly, come on people, youre in the restaurant business, this is not a communist country, yikes!
When to visit after reading a review in a national publication. The steak was adequate but not phenomenal the sides left a bit to be desired the stewed tomatoes were like they just came out of a can and very runny. I frankly expected a lot more from this place given the praise it received in the review.
Its always special to come here. The steaks are the best. I love the filets. Also the red & dressing blue is my favorite. I buy jars at the store for home. I love getting lima beans on Fridays. Expect a wait at the bar unless you manage to arrive for first seating. It can be loud at times and parking is sometimes a challenge. No reservations are taken. No credit cards. No dessert.
A classic atmosphere of leather and wood take you back in time to the age of where you would think a speak easy once resided here; a place where regulars seemed to flock. The prices were more on the steep side, with a two person meal of 20 ounce bone ribeye steaks and each a glass of wine ran about $110 after tax and before a tip. The service was fine and friendly, and definitely a more relaxed vibe versus that of a fine dining experience. The bread for the table and the sides with the steak were nothing to write home about. The main course however turned out to be one of the best steaks Ive ever had.To sum it up (aka too long; didnt read) the steak was prize winning but nothing else was extraordinary. This would be great as maybe a birthday treat if youre a steak lover, or a good place to give someone a gift.
First of all, when you open the main door theres a sign proper dress requested then you find a place full of people with shorts, sandals and fluorescent sports shoes. They dont accept credit cards so be prepared to paid cash for an overrated steak.Wine selection is not anywhere close to what other reviews praise, its limited and simple.Service is good but food is ok.At the end, the most shocking part is when they say we dont do dessert, theres a Ben and Jerrys next to us...Really?
The service here is atrocious. If you go here as a younger person, know that you will be discriminated against by all of the staff. We were given dirty looks and ignored when we first entered (we dressed up though, so i can only assume it was because of our age), skipped over in line, then sat next to a friendly older couple who commented on how our waitress would just skip my wife and I while doing her rounds. The food was thrown down in front of us, and I got an elbow to the back of the head without even an excuse me. I would expect if I am paying for the same food as everyone else to get treated with the same respect as everyone else.On that note, my wife had the filet mignon and I had the famous bone in rib eye. Both were pretty lackluster, the meat was cooked great, and had ok flavor but they dont do anything special with it, only light salt and pepper, resulting in pretty bland steaks which only added to our overall disappointment in the night. For a $100 night out at a steakhouse, we expected to be blown away, but we were really let down with simply mediocre steaks.I will note, all of the sides we had were really good, house salad, mashed potatoes and the fried onions that come with the steak had a lot of flavor, but they really just set us up for disappointment with the steaks.TL;DR I thought this was supposed to be a high-class steakhouse, turns out the only thing high are the prices.
I have read a lot of negative reviews and I disagree completely. If you read the restaurants own description of itself youll see, they are doing business exactly the same way that they have been for 70 years. If youre looking for a boutique like, nouveau kind of restaurant, its not for you. The food was fantastic, the staff pleasant, and the prices were fair. Will definitely return.
The best meal Ive ever paid for. The steak was excellent and (never thought Id be saying this) the creamed spinach was the best side item Ive ever had. Its like a step back in time.Do yourself a favor though, wear a jacket, dont dress like you just walked off the beach, too many people dressed like slobs.
Ive traveled all over the world. The absolute best steak in the world was at the New York Grill in Tokyo, Japan. The steaks in New York City are great. The Pine Clubs steaks, potatoes and asparagus are as good as any chop house in Manhattan including Peter Lugers in Brooklyn. The wine list is respectable. The only thing they could improve upon is the bread.

2022-06-27The Pine Club is usually one of the most recommended restaurants in Dayton. The food is good, but the overall experience is probably a little overrated. They dont do reservations, dont accept credit cards, dont have handicapped accessible restrooms, and the dining booth environment is cramped and a bit run down. The food is good, but for me the overall dining experience isnt really worth making frequent visits.

2022-05-29The Pine Club is a cozy little place to have an intimate dining experience with a loved one or a small group of friends. I ordered a drink from the bar and it was tasty! They offer salad and bread before the meal which was ok. The meal wasnt as spectacular as I was hoping but it wasnt bad. It was lacking flavor for me. I was hoping for something special but it was just alright. The service was wonderful. Bartenders waitstaff and Hosts were absolutely great.

2022-07-11I’ve been coming here since high school, about 40 years and they are still doing it right. The waitress and bartender were awesome. Filet mignon is excellent, cash only so bring cash.

2022-03-15Great steak house. I am so fortunate to be able to dine in at this fantastic steakhouse. Truly the best steak in Mid-USA. I had a 20oz bone-in ribeye. Normally 20oz is way more than I can eat BUT the crunchy caramelized outer layer with moist and juicy, tender inner layer of medium rare broiled ribeye disappeared from the plate into my stomach so fast that I wanted more.I hope I will have another chance to dine in at The Pine Club again, when in Dayton, Ohio.

2021-10-30If youre in Dayton, and would like a unique experience that includes a trip back to the early 50s, The Pine Club fits the bill. Theres a history of the place on the placemats, and it hasnt changed much since opening.First and foremost, this place is cash, check, OR theyll mail a bill (seriously). Additionally, they dont take reservations, so get there early or be prepared to wait at their ample bar seating. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.Upon being seated, our server (Julie) was very attentive, answering any questions we had. Between the surf and turf/bone in ribeye, there wasnt a single complaint at the table. Absolute dinner perfection. If you want a familiar experience, go to Longhorn. If you seek something only found in Dayton, give The Pine Club a shot.

2021-07-25We went to Pine Club for our 7 year anniversary. I will admit, I was a little uneasy being the only person of color in the place... During our wait, we enjoyed drinks at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and helpful in selecting a cocktail. The Jack Rose cocktail was surprisingly strong, yet sweet! I liked it!When we were seated at our table, our menus, silverware and bread were already waiting. I was starving, so I was relieved to see the bread! Our server was very nice, and didnt miss a beat in making sure we werent in need of anything. Although, I wish they used romaine lettuce instead of iceberg, I am now a fan of their house dressing! My lamb chops were delicious, and my fiance loved his ribeye! The loaded baked potato was great, and Im confident that the hickory smoked bacon deserves the credit for that win. The onion rings were a nice surprise, and added an appetizing touch to the main course plates. Oh, and the stewed tomatoes... Sweeter than I expected, but I was very pleased. I loved how they lay 3 croutons atop the tomatoes that were so good, I wish Id had a whole bowl of them! The croutons just kind of melt in your mouth, and it makes you want more! We were so full that we didnt think about desert, and Im not even sure if there is a dessert menu. I am confident that, if desserts are offered, they would be just as delightful of the dinner. We will be back!

2021-07-31Went for our anniversary and man was it so worth it. Everything from the salad to the main course. I had the bone in ribeye with a loaded baked potato and stewed tomatoes and it was one of the if not the best steak Ive ever had. My wife had the filet mignon and garlic mashed potatoes and loved it. Service was great also. They opened at 4pm today (Saturday) and we were first in line at about 330pm and not 5 minutes after we got in line there were people coming from everywhere. So I would suggest either getting there early and waiting or wait until a few hours later and trying. We will definitely be back maybe next year for our anniversary again. 😊

2022-05-20Was in town on a random Wednesday night and came in for a quick snack and ended up getting a full meal. Our server Caren was the best! Turned me on to a new wine that I had never tried before, and it paired perfectly with my steak. I will definitely be back for another steak, but more importantly the excellent service!

2021-10-30Second time to eat here and steaks are definitely their best entree.. got the double porterhouse which was just the right size for me and my wife. Was cooked just right and loved the sear on it. :)There were lots of people when we went around 5:30pm but wait time wasnt too bad.. about 20 minutes then (they dont accept reservations). Parking is plentiful out back but it does get filled up too.All in all a great experience.

2022-05-10Used to be the best steak around town. No longer the case, steak was bland, medium means practically raw. I feel the filet I cook at home has way more taste. They only want cash, in this day and age who carries over $100 in cash?? Im happy to pay good money for a great meal, this taste wise was not even mediocre.
