Had a great time along with 3 other couples, so there were 8 of us. It could not have been a more rewarding and amazing experience from A- Z. Great appetizers Our Server Jenn knew exactly how to cater to each individual person with no sweat. Quite the place . Food is amazing. Spinach Cannelloni is a must
Just had a fourth family gathering. I cant say enough good things about how amazing everyone is. From the owners to the bartenders wait staff and kitchen it never disappoints. We rented the wine room this time and everything was perfect! Thank you Papa Joes for everything! I love going to the bar and having cocktails and dinner by myself since my husband passed away (it was our favorite place) Lori, Sandy and Anthony are TRULY appreciated and make me feel so welcome. Thank you Papa Joes for everything you are to the area. Terri Czoper
First time NOT an excellent experience. Was not told when making reservation for 10, that it would be a special limited menu. Second, no parking available. After 3 trips around lot, parked across the street. At 72 not so quick and agile trying to dodge traffic on a busy street. Service not good. Tremendously over booked. Had to ask to have drinks refilled multiple times and the same with any other needs at the table. Did not short tip to waitress, as this seemed more of a management problem of over booking for available staff! Will probably be a long time before returning, if ever.
Don’t bother making a reservation. They do not honor them. My husband made one literally 2 weeks in advance and when we came in, they put our name at the bottom of the list. Apparently, they didn’t expect to be so busy on valentines weekend and put us on the list with all the other people that made reservations.they didn’t save tables for a single person. Very disappointing. Always delicious though. Make sure to get their white French!!
Honestly a bit disappointed. They had a group of 4 workers standing around being pretty loud in the middle if the dining area. The food was - okay , nothing spectacular. I am not sure where they get their noodles / sauce - that a bowl of spaghetti is 17$I try not to give one stars, so heres 2 , you earned 1.
Food: Some of the best Italian food I have had outside of Italy. Probably even gives it a run for its money. The menu is not as large as I have seen, but I guess that is a good thing because they focus on what they do well. The calamari is a good example of what it should taste like when cooked right. Not chewy at all. Light fry resulting in tender, not overly oily pieces. The carbonara was amazing, rich and velvety texture. Pork chop was tender and flavorful. They do have a market here to buy foods prepared. I did not try anything so cannot compare.Atmosphere: Very big place. Many different dining rooms. Each with its own wonderful decor. Everything was very clean. We walked through kitchen, which was very large also and spotless. This is a place you will want to mind your manners, mature feel.Service: The front of the house is kind and professional. The waitress was a little tight but very professional and paced the meal appropriately.Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a world class Italian meal.
We were able to get a table in 15 minutes on a busy Saturday night. Strong martinis. The famous white French dressing creamy and delicious. Perfectly cooked calamari, yummy meatballs, salmon seasoned just right, ravioli, spinach cannelloni, and cannoli to top it all off! Great celebration meal! 🎉
Absolute TOP NOTCH food. We have eaten here three times and each time had something different. Each time the food seemed better than the one before. Wine prices are retail so you’re not paying anything extra on your drinks either. Each server was also outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Papa Joe’s is a landmark, must visit destination restaurant in Akron. I’m not sure why I haven’t reviewed this amazing place other than it’s so close to home and we are here constantly. The location is easily accessible for anyone in Cuyahoga Falls or Akron. The interior has a mix of rooms that are all unique and the bar has a classic thirties vibe that is timeless. There is a large room for groups that we have used for wedding rehearsals as well as my parents 50th anniversary party. The food here is always spectacular and there is nothing on the menu that ever disappoints. I especially like the lasagna and the lemon chicken. The wine list is over the top and the desert menu will delight everyone. There is a store located on the north side of the building that offers you the ability to build your own carry out orders and make wine purchases. It’s an awesome place to go for party dishes like there twice baked potatoes and lasagna trays. This is one of my all time favorite places in the Akron area! I’ll add some photos on my next visit……
Went to this restaurant due to us being in the area and wanting to try something new. Description says casual dining, but let me say right away that we were underdressed. Everyone here was dressed like they were going to a church service or a college graduation. Anyhow, besides the dress issue, the food tasted pretty good and the quality of it seemed very high. Service was a tad slow at times but when our waitress did tend to us she was amazing. Prices are average for the area and for this type of establishment, and the specials they have seemed quite enticing.
This place is great if you like bland, uninspiring, pricey food. I’ve had better lasagna out of the freezer section at the grocery store. Which was supposed to be one of their most popular items! They do though have a set clientele with early bird diners so if any of this fits your criteria you’ll probably love Papa Joes.
This restaurant was a throwback if you ever watched the movie Matilda this reminds of the fancy resturants from that. First, the service was terrible not only did the waitress not really tend to the table she would walk away when making requests. At the end of the night the staff kept staring at us and walking by every few minutes it made us uncomfortable. The restaurant still had 30 minutes before closing and we were finishing our drinks. We order about 4 drinks each and appetizers and dessert. The calamari was a large portion okay flavor. The stuffed mushrooms are a miss do not need to order or buy the only tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing. The bread tho! That was an award winner. It was an entire loaf of heaven would go back for that loaf alone. The coffee cocktails very good went well with the dessert. The tiramisu not worth it if you like tiramisu mushy and has a weak balance of flavors. Not the worst place had its highlights but overall just average.
Very friendly staff, cozy environment, good service, good food. A little fancier than the name would suggest, I felt a little underdressed in leggings and a sweatshirt. The food was very good at a reasonable price. Only $60 for two people to have a nice dinner. There was a bit of a wait, and the table service was a little slow. But all in all would definitely recommend for a nice sit down dinner.
Started off a little rocky. We came in without knowing you had to make reservations and the host was a bit may I say annoyed with us. At that point I was unsure how this experience would go. He did find us a small table though and came back over to us and chatted. Food and atmosphere was wonderful. We had the stuffed hot banana peppers, salads with French dressing which was perfect and cheese ravioli 5 meatballs. We did order an Italian sausage too that we did not receive with the dish but with the amount of food given it was not needed. The sauce was sweet and full of Italian herbs and garlic a work of art. Raviolis were cooked to perfection. We both had a cocktail from the bar and they were great. Our server was wonderful as well.
Iacominis served a wonderful luncheon for my family after my sisters funeral service. The restaurant was closed but opened for our family group. The food was delicious, the servers were attentive and very efficient. They were even able to spontaneously provide a birthday cupcake complete with candle for my nephews birthday. A 5 ***** experience. I can highly recommend.
My first time here, and an amazing experience.I had the lasagna- and I tell you, I dont know a place that does it better. Absolutely delicious from first bite to last.I believe Veronica was my server; she was an absolute delight and I would recommend her to anyone who tries this establishment.I am definitely planning to come back some time soon!!
Always a good visit here. Waitress can take a perfect order without writing it down. Keeps up with refills and removal of dirty dishes. Mgmt/owners check on you during evening. And, of course, food is delicious. Make sure you get a reservation or you may have to wait.
My 15 year old wanted pasta tonight so we tried both Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill. Both had long waits and ho hum food besides. Thinking of other options I realized we had not been to Papa Joes in a long time. We have been missing out! Dinner for four with a drink came under $100, and what a great dinner! Veal Marsala, Lamb Bolognese and the Ravioli were all delightful. Even my 4 year old was happy with her Penne and meatballs. If you want good Italian remember to skip the chains! Papa Joes in the valley has always done a great job for a fair price. Try it, or if its been a while try it again!
The service was excellent no complaints there. I had the Sirlion burger and two days later Im still experiencing a sour stomach. I was the only one in my group that had any issues. Other than that it seems like a nice place.Update 9/28It appears the owners have tried to contact me via email and Im just now seeing it. I have to assume they wanted to make it right by the timely response. I wont be back in that area for many years but I think Papa Joes is worth another go when I finally do get that way.
I have eaten here many times and they never disappoint. The food and drinks are spectacular and reasonably priced. We have always had Stacy as our server and she is amazing!!! She goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is the best it can be. Your water is never empty and your drinks are always fresh. The food is very well prepared by the Chefs. Pro-tip, try the White French dressing and the Tuscan Bread. If you do order the bread, be prepared for a whole loaf! The lasagna and Chicken Parm is some of the best around.
Ordered lasagnes for pickup in the market a few days ago only to be told they didnt have the kind I requested when I showed up on the day I scheduled. Kid working in market just kept making excuses. Felt like the Seinfeld rental car episode...what was the point of calling if they werent going to have product for me. They agreed to make me one after the manager stepped in.
My husband and I ate here on New Year’s Eve, they were crowded, but they practiced social distancing and I never felt worried about being in there. Our waitress was Stacey, and she was wonderful!! She was so polite and attentive! I was so impressed, especially with it being such a busy night. I’ve been enjoying Papa Joe’s since I was a kid. We also had our wedding rehearsal dinner here and will continue to be lifelong patrons! Their lasagna is by far the best!
Our family had dinner here last night. Leah our server was absolutely amazing. The food was definitely amazing. We had the Salmon, Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Francoise. We were having a wonderful time, dinner, dessert. Here is where it gets bad and the reason for a low star. Two young men came out from the kitchen and were setting up for a banquet while were still eating. They dropped several of the Chafing dishes on the floor by accident. It made a horrible loud noise. The sound made the tinnitus in our ears get bad not to mention our nervous system was now on edge. The one young man apologized after we said something. We tried to talk to the manager about what happened but he was not apologetic at all about the situation. The other young man had a smirk on his face when he came back through. I grew up in the restaurant business my entire life, you do not set up for things or vacuum while you have people still dining. It is a shame that this happened because we will not be coming back here again.
My review! The parking lot is very big, we were seated right away made a reservation online. Very friendly staff. The silverware is very shiny, they offer you ground pepper on everything (interesting), the bread is so good, lots of butter to put on your roll. All salad dressing are made here i tried their white French their famous for, it was delicious. They have good pop (soda), large straws (sorry turtles). Fettuccine Alfredo had fresh parsley in it very very good. My boyfriend had a burger was cooked perfectly he said French fries were awesome. Had a chocolate cake, way too much chocolate.. but for people that like that this is perfect for you. Bathrooms spacious and clean. To go container fancier than most no foam here and came with a bag. I sat in a booth seat i was quite comfortable. This concludes my review.
We ordered online for my fiancés special birthday dinner. Unfortunately, the chicken parmesan she ordered was completely raw. I mean, salmon-like pink as if it never saw heat. We called management and were met with a pretentious person that was very snarky and unhelpful and whose best offer was a gift card (back to the place that just served raw chicken). Refused to refund our meal back to our credit card saying it wasnt possible, which is a lie. What a joke! After wiping down the counters with sanitizer and putting away the salmonella-laden dishes, we were fit to be tied.If you want incompetent chefs and a model of what not to do in customer service, come on in to Papa Joes. I would give 0 stars if I could and will never come back here. It will be a very busy night writing 1 star reviews on every public site possible.
Salad with white french dressing, appetizer of steamed clams and spinach cannaloni.Everything was delicious. The white french dressing is mild and tasty - it makes for a restraining start to the meal.Steamed clams were well prepared and tender - a buttery her bed garlic broth, perfect for dunking clams or dunking their hot rolls.Portions are generous. If you leave hungry, its your own fault. Servis was friendly and attentive. Ill be back next time Im craving a hearty Italian dinner.
If youve never been here what are you waiting for? All of the items on the specialty list are amazing, not the daily specials I cant testify to those because they change this is a 45 minute drive each way for us and we still do it often. Hard I recommend a better restaurant.
We hosted an evening wedding rehearsal dinner in their large banquet room on Friday the 13th, 2020. They were very accommodating to our wishes for a distanced and safe meal. They arranged the room per my request with separate tables for each household, and everybody facing the center of the room so all 19 of us could see and talk to each other, but maintain safe social distance. On top of their making it a safe event, they let us order off the menu and provided quick and attentive service. Despite the wide variety of items ordered; everybody enjoyed their drinks, appetizer, main course and some deserts. The butternut squash ravioli was a huge hit with several of my guests and the lamb shank was fall-of-the bone tender. I highly recommend this restaurant and want to thank Kim McLaughlin in catering for making sure the event came off well.
Rude as hell. Server came to my table with a attitude looking at me with weird facial expressions. She came an served me my wine than never came back to my table again! I told her I didn’t want a appetizer but changed my mind an was waiting to order a second glass of wine & salad and she never returned. I had to go up to the front to pay because I didn’t see her for a good hour. Just didn’t feel comfortable at all. Than manager wasn’t the nicest either.. I felt negative energy the whole time I was there. ;/
What a great experience it was to dine here while celebrating my 45th birthday with family. Great service (thanks Nicole!), pleasant atmosphere - including live music - and delicious food and drinks. Made a reservation on OpenTable through a Google search. Shared the stuffed banana peppers for an appetizer (yum). Daughter had the fettuccine alfredo (amazing), wife had the special (chianti braised beef au poivre ravioli - so good, just wish they didnt overload it with peppercorns), and I had the lasagna with a side of homemade meatballs (also very good, love their red sauce, lasagna could have been fresher, but having worked in a restaurant, I know how staple dishes like these get prepared. Portions are generous. We sat in the dining room with the big stone fireplace and chandelier. Would recommend that over the patio (smaller and faces the street) or seating near the bar - it can be a bit louder over there with patrons having fun. Overall, this place is great and worth a visit. Been in business forever and I can see why. Well definitely be back!
The establishment is warm and welcoming. We were very disappointed with the Chicken Francaise (was muddy and rubber like...)Unfortunately a member of our party became ill from the chicken parm, later regurgitated three times last night! Also the server must have been having a bad day as she had a hand on a hip and an negative attitude!
My friend Kyle introduced me to this place on 9/28/21, a bit last minute too. A bit more expensive than I was expecting, but the price matches the quality and service. On a side note I do feel kinda bad that I wasnt able to leave a better tip today for Rebecca, our server, especially after hearing it was near her B-day (I had already gone way over budget for the day, but still tried to be generous with a little tip). Hopefully next time I see her, Ill remember to tip her $2.50 for recommending The Aviator today. Again, sorry bout that and Happy Bday Rebecca!
TONI I removed myself from the conversation when you said what did i want you to do with a 5 dollar loaf of bread. I have the packing which shows this bread was packaged on Aug 22. This was bought last night. I understand places are under staffed but a bad attitude is not a good thing.Worst customer service!!!!!!!!! I bought 2loaves of garlic bread that was bad and called to compain. I was told by the manager what do you want me to do about a 5 dollar loaf of bread??? Well i bought 2 lasagnas (which are amazing) and gave them to my neighbors for a baby gift. HOW embarrasing to give spoiled food. You should of apologized and a small credit for the bread would of been accepted but no, Now a bad review
My boyfriend and I went to a lovely date night here! The food was wonderful and the service was prompt but not rushed. It was a little hard to see with the extent of ambiance lighting, I ended up using my phones flash light to read the menu. We laughed it off and had a good time. A tip is the back of the restaurant has brighter lights but the wing near the front with the tinted windows is very dark once the sun goes down!
I placed a carry out order for eggplant parm (2) one hour prior to pick up. It wasnt ready when I arrived, but they prepared the food quickly, which I appreciated. However, when I got home we discovered that the eggplant was VERY undercooked, basically it was browned, raw and inedible. Weve been to Papa Joes many times over the years with family, friends and groups, but this was a VERY disappointing meal.
Kinda not great. Service was fine but the applesauce tastes like its bad or rotten? The candy apple martini just tastes literally like watered down vodka, very hard to drink. The alfredo tastes chalky like store bought and the spinach pasta thing was just okay, but not awful. Overall it was very disappointing and just really not good food especially for the price, definitely not coming back. Lower the prices if this is what youre serving.
Have passed by this place many times and never gone in but glad we finally did. Went here for our 27th Anniversary and nothing but Hi remarks! Ordered the small Prime Rib it was the size ( FRED FLINTSTONE ) would of been proud of, done to perfection. From the salads to the Terimisu everything was great as well as the atmosphere and friendliness of the entire staff. Rebecca our waitress was Great 👍 cant wait to go back.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in town. I go a few times a month. All of the food is amazing. Portions are large and prices are decent. They have a small little bar area that is fun, a bit of an older crowd but you can still get your drink on. They have a take out area too that you can take home and heat yourself. Nice wine selection, also available for take out. You just cant go wrong with anything here. Service is good too
Today was definitely a busy night, so I dont want to judge too harshly, but our waitress was a bit snippy, but was nice to talk to once the night had called down. That being said, the food was generally good, and the atmosphere nice. I really enjoyed the chicken franchise. The side portion of pasta was a smidge bland, but Ill attribute that to them having to pump it out non-stop with the huge crowd. On a regular night where it isnt absurdly busy it would probably be more seasoned. Ill definitely give it another go.
My Sister is here from Philadelphia and we stumbled upon this gem of a cozy atmospheric Restaurant. The calamari and crab-stuffed mushroom are delicious. The service staff are very cordial and were delighted that weve made this stop our evening meal. I live in Maple Height,Ohio, and I will look forward to returning here, soon.( Mary is a delightful waitress- They are practicing social distancing and protective wear- we felt that the atmosphere was healthy and the prices are affordable)😋

My husband Gene and I went to dinner last night for our 33rd Wedding Anniversary❤️ We had such a wonderful experience as usual! One of the owners, Kim, went over and beyond to make our night special❣️She took pictures of us in the wine room and by the fireplace and then sent a bottle of champagne to our table❣️Our server Morgan was delightful and the food was delicious! Papa Joes’ made our night!! Thank you for a wonderful evening ❤️❤️
Just tried this place for the first time! Loved it! The petite prime rib is massive! My fiancé said every time we go he’ll order the strip steak. It was phenomenal! Cooked perfectly! The mashed potatoes rocked!!! My only complaint was that we were served an undercooked appetizer twice. I’m talking ice cold in the center. The waitress apologized several times saying that it was a special that the cooks weren’t getting down very well and that we weren’t the only table with this cold app. Of course, we didn’t get charged for the cold app because she took it away after one bite, but I thought having eating cold meat twice we would’ve been offered a drink or dessert perhaps. There’s a difference between good service and great service. We’ll definitely still be back regardless of the appetizer mishap! That’s how good our entrees were!
After all these years, they know what they are doing and do it well. Always a great Italian meal. Was very crowded on this particular Saturday night. The server did a great job, but she had way too many tables. Still, no real complaints. Food was excellent. Wine is at retail prices, which is a huge bonus. You really cannot go wrong at Papa Joes, which is what makes it so popular and crowded.
Delicious food and great, fast service! I took my husband here for Fathers Day and we will be back. Grabbed a bottle of Chianti for the road from the market place. Our sons chicken tenders were overcooked and the owner Judy, noticed before we could and brought him out fresh ones!! That just shows the caliber of this restaurant!!! My rack of lamb was perfect! If youre in Akron, Ohio, go to Papa Joes....
Kathy is an excellent and attentive server. She was the best server we’ve had in a long time. We went here last weekend with our 1 year old son, and she was very accommodating and got his food out quickly so my husband and I could relax as he ate. Their food is exceptional too.
Wife and I live very close but always had went elsewhere for some reason. What a shame! Went in November and were so pleasantly surprised at how awesome it was. The setting was great, the server had years of experience and knew what to recommend. The drinks were excellent. Overall - just a wonderful time. We decided to go back again last night - the same experience - this time the server was new, but very attentive and nice. My wife has mentioned this is our new go to place. Not the least expensive place around - but thats not our view - we looked at it more like an upscale restaurant. Extremely satisfied.
Great service from beginning to end. The server Jackie, she was attentive and pleasant. The food was amazing. I had the fried calamari as an appetizer. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. It was served with a delicious marinara sauce. The calamari was enough to share. I orderd the chicken parmigiana and it was super hot and tasty. I was surprised to see bread pudding on the dessert menu. I am bread pudding connoisseur, and this was the best bread pudding ever. 5 stars all around. Too bad I am visiting . I would come back just for dessert.
My first time here, the food was excellent! My server however couldnt have been more rude or inattentive to my husband and I. I was trying to figure out what we had done but then I realized she was acting this way to all her tables. Im sure we will go back because the food was absolutely delicious but if shes my server again, I will for sure asked to be seated in a different servers section.
Bad service and we haven’t even gone yet. We had a reservation reserved for tomorrow (10/28) at 8 pm. Got a call today and said that they’re closing at 8 due to slow traffic. Asked us to come earlier but we couldn’t get a babysitter before 7:30 pm. So you’re turning away a customer because you guys are slow? Makes sense. The reservation was for a birthday celebration and now we have to go elsewhere. We will gladly do so.
We were here with family as a Fathers Day celebration. Our server was top notch! We had a pretty large group, but she kept everything straight, showed good humor, and made us all feel welcome. The food was fantastic. The bean salad everyone raves about was as good as we were told. The lasagna was rich and delicious. The coffee ice cream was to die for.
I had the lasagna. It was delicious. The bread the brought out was fresh baked. It wasnt enough for the amount of people at our table. We each had one small slice. The atmosphere is elegant. I would suggest they not serve instant mashed potatoes ever. I would recommend this place.
My work came for luncheon. I am not sure of price, so unable to give a response about value. The party room is large. The service was engaged and on top of it. The famous white French was okay. All the entrees looked good. I had the lasagna. The red sauce for it was tasty.
Wow!! The Italian restaurant is a real jewel!! The prices are fair. The food is delicious!! The portions are large. The staff is friendly and professional. Reservations are highly recommended for this location off the beaten path, but venue stays busy, busy, busy! This is a great place for a special date with a beloved or even a large group or party. I look forward to returning soon. My mouth is watering, just thinking about it. [Hehehe.]
I only had soup. I ordered some Tuscany bread which was on the menu but they didnt have. The server gave me dinner rolls on the house which was nice. My girlfriend ordered a sandwich which she didnt like at all. We both thought the place was too dark. Poor positioning of restrooms. People were blocking the aisle so I had to walk through the servers area. Server was nice although service seemed slow to me. The servers in general looked as if they lacked enthusiasm for their positions , but thats only my opinion for what its worth. Oh the soup was good and hot. Maybe we will come back someday for a second try.
The food here is outstanding, however service is always disappointing. Ive been here multiple times and every time theres an issue. I brought guests here and we had to send back half our food because it was cold in the middle. The lasagna I can see, because its a large piece and its a dense food. A side of pasta though? Im not even sure how you manage to serve that cold.A few weeks ago I ordered take out and they forgot the salads with our meals. I have emailed, but have not gotten an answer. Rather disappointing.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! Papa Joes has the whole package if youre looking for a relaxing evening out or a place to celebrate a special event. Melony, our server, went above and beyond to provide great service. If you havent visited Papa Joes add it to the top of your list. If you have been there, its time to go back. 🙂
Great wine selection with Italian-American food. Lots of red sauce. Lots of fried. The white French salad dressing is very good. There is a little take out market which is great for a fast meal. There is only 1 lasagna option on the restaurant menu, but there are three take out versions. I would like the other options on the menu.

We booked the wine room for a holiday party and while the picture posted on the website is stunning, reality does not match the photo. There were extra tables around which was fine, but there were random unfolded linens and wrappers on top. It had a storage room feel. We were not aware that random strangers would be coming in and out through our entire dinner and it smelled musty like an unclean basement. It was, however, nicely decorated for Christmas. The waitress was nice at first but that quickly changed. It made sense when the bill came and there was gratuity added on already. The worst part for our group was the fact that there was a party booked back to back with ours and we could clearly tell we were being rushed out. A man who seemed to be a host or even a manager, not sure, would stand in the doorway of the room, look at us and very prominently check his watch. This happened multiple times. I will say that the food was absolutely delicious. The salad was fresh with the most incredible white French dressing. The rolls were nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside and everyone said their entre was incredible. The lasagna was the best Ive tasted. We were all extremely pleased with the food but mediocre or unpleasant service is enough to make me go elsewhere and to not recommend to friends and family.
Excellent food and dining experience. You definitely should make reservations on busier nights. All the staff were excellent especially our waiter Rick he went above and beyond to ensure we have a wonderful evening even though the place was extremely busy for New Years eve.
Was there with 31 others for a high school reunion dinner. Service was excellent. Food was delicious and fresh. Gave us 5 meal choices off the menu to choose from and no problem with doing separate checks. First time there but would definitely go back if we didnt live 2 states away.
First time coming here and overall it is average. We ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktail ($14.99) and it came with only 5 shrimp, which was underwhelming, but even worse the shrimp tasted very fishy and had such a strong fish odor that I held my breath while biting it. My fiancé and I decided we weren’t going to finish the rest and politely told our waitress about it and asked her to take them (because the smell was so offensive we didn’t even want them at the table with us!) and upon our waitress’s return she said “Well I talked to them and they said they just made them so I’m not sure what to tell you,” and shrugged - almost implying it was just us.. maybe they thought we were trying to get a free meal? A man came and glared at us through the cutout window between dining rooms - I’m assuming the manager - but the manager never came to apologize or let us know that it would be taken off our bill. Even chain restaurants are professional enough to do so! The rest of our meal was good, but nothing amazing. Also - prices online do not match the prices on the menu, they have raised most prices by $1. We will return here, but mainly for the romantic atmosphere and convenience - not because we had a great experience. Hope the next visit is better!
Delightful, cozy restaurant. The food was very good, with very reasonable pricing and nice selection. The wine option of purchasing a boot in their very impressive wine store, then bringing it into the restaurant is the way it should be. Wine pricing was fair, not crazy mark-ups so many restaurants do to customers. We will be back in the future. Also, very friendly staff.
The service here was excellent. We had a blonde woman who was professional but also very friendly. I ordered a meat dish, which was well-flavored but unfortunately a bit dry and overcooked. Everything else was delicious, and our waitress was really on top of refilling water/coffee/bread.
Went for some Thanksgiving. We ordered the lamb and Turkey dishes. We were not impressed with either of the dishes. Rolls were stale, meat dry. We heard so many wonderful things about the place, it was disappointing to have mediocre food. It was super busy, we were sat on a timely manner. Service was ok. Wish the food had been better.
Great food and great staff. I ordered the perch sandwich today but have had the perch dinner of Im really hungry. You cant get perch many places.Their steak is awesome too. Oh and I forgot to mention that its an Italian Restaurant. Their Italian food is excellent!!The white French salad dressing is one of a kind.I know everyone will find Papa Joes as great as I do.
This used to be our favorite Italian restaurant, but since they stopped making their sauce in-house, we just dont feel the same about it. Red sauce is such an integral part of all our favorite dishes, and it lost the fresh, tomato-y sweetness it used to have. We still go once in a while for the seafood, but the salad and bread are nothing special. We like the ambiance, and so many of the long-time servers are great people - but when we crave Italian, we no longer crave Papa Joes.
On the evening of Saturday, December 8, 2018, I had made a reservation for 10 people in the VIP room at Papa Joe’s. This is a private room with a large round table. We have come here and reserved this room for several years for our Christmas party. I made the reservation a year in advance, reconfirmed the reservation in September, and again the day before our arrival. We arrived on time and were told that the group currently occupying the VIP room were no where ready to leave since THEY had arrived late, and WE would have to be seated elsewhere in the restaurant. We ended up not having a private room, nor did we have a seating arrangement where we could talk to everyone in our group easily. We were told by the young man at the check in entrance that we would be comped drinks and appetizers. Mary Ann, who seated us, gave us a bottle of champagne to share between 10 people! Then she said she couldn’t give us any drinks since she gave us 1 bottle of champagne. Really? She did give us a nice variety of appetizers. One other time we had to wait a short time for a group to leave so we could be seated in the VIP room, but tonight’s experience was completely inexcusable! The group who arrived late should have had to forfeit the VIP room, or been told they needed to be finished before 6pm. THEY should have been seated elsewhere in the restaurant, not us! We had our reservation for a year, we were on time, yet WE were inconvenienced due to another group’s inconsideration. I have emailed the restaurant twice and have never heard anything from them. Needless to say, this was not handled well at all! We were very, very disappointed in Papa Joe’s. So, don’t count on your reservation being honored at this restaurant.
I guess the reason that so many old timers are dining there is because weve been in the area for a good while and know the best places to eat. My wife and I have eaten there dozens of times. The service has always been excellent. With a reservation, we have never had to wait to be seated. The food is wonderful. Obviously, it is primarily Italian but they offer steaks, prime rib on the weekend, lamb and a variety of fish. They make one of the best Reuben Sandwiches I have ever eaten. You will not be disappointed or leave hungry !
We attended a wedding rehearsal dinner last night at Papa Joes. From the time we walked in to the time we walked out, we had exceptional service. The wait staff were very attentive and always kept our glasses (wine and water) full.We only had 3 choices for food due to it being a large party but everything looked delicious! I had the Chicken Marsala, it came with 2 breaded cutlets and a wonderful mushroom and garlic sauce. My only complaint with my meal was my side of spaghetti came with marinara sauce on it and I would have liked it to be in the Marsala sauce (Im sure if I would have just asked for this it would have been fine). The other entrees were a 10 oz. sirloin and eggplant parmesan.I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone (especially wedding rehearsals). I am looking forward to returning for a nice dinner in the future.
The chicken marsala and buttered noodles were fantastic. It came with marinara, but I thought buttered would be a better compliment to the marsala sauce. Also, the portions were nice. The waitress was very attentive. She continuously filled our water glasses. Overall, an enjoyable experience.
I was so very disappointed with my Mother’s Day meal yesterday. There’s not too much to look forward to these days of social distancing except good food. My husband and I ordered our dinner the day before so as to give them plenty of time for our order. When he brought our meals home, 2 steak dinners, it was missing our rolls, had the wrong salad dressing and one of the steaks was half fat and inedible. My dinner consisted of 5 bites of steak, green beans and a side salad that I had to use my own Kraft italian dressing on. Very dissatisfied and was still hungry afterwards. $65...wow.
We have been patrons since they relocated to their present location. I believe in the mid-80s. When the marinara sauce was made in the kitchen, it was the best anywhere. Since its made off site, it simply isnt the same. Theres still other great choices, hence my 5* rating.
On a business trip & I arrive at the hotel around dinner time but a little later-I asked front desk for recommendations & they gave me a few chain restaurants but I wanted something better so THANKS to TripAdvisor I found Papa Joes - authentic Italian food, very nice atmosphere - I sat at the bar & ate - Lori was incredibly helpful with my wine & food selection - I got the lasagna & it was the BEST. I enjoyed the wine so much, I bought two bottles to take home. I met a few friendly people at the bar who helped me feel welcome - it was clear local folks go there often because of the food, service & quality. I will definitely be back.
I suppose its another one of those Akron Institutions that rests more on its laurels than actual performance. Ive only been there a few times, none of which were impressive in the least. The Chicken Francese was Okay, but served with a side of pasta with red sauce which was dry and way under-cooked. Angelinas on Home Ave is twice as good for half the money. Just be sure to ask for the pasta menu.
We got married at the restaurant. We attend our birthdays, anniversaries and any other important date here at Papa Joes. Great place to eat and socialize. Its a whos who place to go. Check out the wine room. Fantastic. If you havent already been here go. Make yourself a reservation and enjoy.
My parents recommended my boyfriend and I to come here. After tasting the dessert they brought home, I wanted some of my own. While waiting for our meal we each split a bottle of Riesling wine and warm fresh baked rolls. The Riesling tasted mildly sweet and was not too dry. To finish our night out we ordered a chocolate mousse cake and a cannoli. Each tasted amazing, especially the chocolate cake. We enjoyed our meals and desserts very much. Save your receipt for 10% off their bakery to take home! The lighting is dimmer than most restaurants.
I love it here! The family owned atmosphere, the white french, the super strong martinis. Dining is one thing but I planned a graduation dinner and the staff was amazing. I called them a few times with details and concerns which they graciously answered and reassured me of. Everytime I got off the phone with them they congratulated me on graduating college which they didnt need to do. They made me feel significant in my accomplishment and I would refer them time and time again for how amazing they are.
There was three of us, my husband, our daughter, and I. My daughter ordered the petite filet with the (shareable side) potato, my husband ordered the prime rib, and I ordered the sea bass. My husbands dinner was a special and came with salad and dessert. He had the lettuce wedge. It was big but well presented. I had lobster bisque that was not impressive. It was a tad spicy and barely any lobster meat. The waitress cleaned off our dishes and used a crumb comb which amazed us, as since e have been to other upscale restaurants and have never had this done. I had the lemon drop martini and was disappointed with the taste. My sea bass was fantastic and quite a good size. My husband felt the prime rib was alright, he has had better. Our daughter loved the filet and her potato was big!! The chocolate lava cake was great and paired well with the ice cream and Chantilly cream. Our waitress was fantastic and always ready with refills. Manager stopped before dessert to assure all was well. This place takes care of their patrons.
A nice place for groups with some traditional menu items. Not very a very compelling menu for this into creative flavors. Some cobwebs and dust along the ceiling fixtures make one question the cleanliness of area not seen by customers. The staff is attentive and they management has tried to stay relevant with updates and keeping lunch prices reasonable.
Nice atmosphere, convenient market next door, but somewhat busy and has a tendency to get pretty loud. Chicken livers smothered in onions were delightful, my friend got a duck entree with fingerling potatoes as part of a daily specials menu and was somewhat disappointed with the small amount of duck and overabundance of not so consistently cooked potatoes.
Always good. Special to this restaurant is their White french dressing and the chicken parmesan. They have a separate entrance for many fully prepared entrees to go including their White french! Other items include kidney beans salad, regular salad, meatballs, and many more. A variety of desserts that are on the expensive side but look delicious. Monday special take out is fully cooked lasagna with sides enough to feed 4-5 for $35 ...a good deal for restaurant takeout. On busy nights parking can be a challenge.
First time visiting over the holidays and from the hype was underwhelmed. The food is traditional Italian, but lacks the homemade quality I was expecting. I had the fresh fish option, it was well prepared and outshined the ravioli. Maybe it will be different not around the holidays.
There was a distinct bathroom smell in the restaurant that was very off putting. It literally smelled like porta potty, like with the strong air freshener smell mixed with something a lot less pleasant. The smell slapped you across the face and I dont really have a sensitive sense of smell. The restaurant looked clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was ok, not good, not awful.
I have eaten at Papa Joes dozens of times over the past decade or so. Im not and old person, and hardly a regular, but I always find the service to be friendly and prompt. And I have always enjoyed the food at both the restaurant and the to go shop. They are a great place to grab a burger or sandwich at lunch or have a nice dinner. They also have really great appetizers.
There is something about this place that is always very welcoming! Everytime I come here, I have such a great time. The workers are so friendly and can always help choosing something for you on the menu if you cant decide. The prices are great as well. The menu is full of wonderful appetizers, entrees, salads, and desserts!
Ugh! We were so looking forward to dining at Papa Joes and couldnt have been more disappointed. Server was in a hurry, short with us, and it seemed had too much on her plate. Food was seriously underwhelming.; blah. One dish came out overdone and we were asked if it was OK that way or should she take it back (?). Really? If she knew it didnt look good, why did she serve it? Portions were smaller than most restaurants, especially Italian restaurants. Everything about our meal was a wont ever go back experience. An infrequent opportunity for us all to eat together deserves a much better dining location.
Had the best Penne pasta with chicken and bruschetta I have ever had! Friendly and accommodating staff and great service. The take out store is wonderful for fresh food for dinners, parties, and when you need something delicious and homemade but you dont have the time to make it!
Good was excellent, service top notch and it was the first place that reminded us of anything from Cleveland. Id say Papa Joes is the closest thing to LockKeepers and Gentiles in the Cleveland area. Two places we LOVED! We truly enjoyed our ENTIRE meal here (wine/apps/salads/dinners/desserts) and will be returning for more. Also looking forward to using them for catering for events we host.
Last night Sandy Lasater Suckey and I went to Papa Joe’s for dinner. They had fried oysters for the month of December. Our hostess was very friendly. Sandy told her we had never been there before. She was so surprised that 2 people who lived in the area had never been there. She hung up our coats and offered to buy us a drink. Then she proceeded to work with Sandy for suggestions for gluten free options. Our meals were delicious! Sandy found her when we were leaving and went over to thank her for the drinks and the pleasant dining experience. She asked where we were parked & then proceeded to take us on a shortcut through the kitchen and Market Place. I didn’t catch her name but she was one of the family and the hostess for our table area looking out toward peninsula rd. Thank You Iacomini family!
Was a quiet early dinner after Stan Hywet. Ordered the fried zucchini and sauerkraut balls - salad and soup. Everything was delicious, especially liked the waitress. She helped us sample salad dressings, offered to separate our take home dessert. Want to come again for a full dinner.
Picked up our dinner to go because of this dang virus. We had the banana peppers, cheese wedges, lasagna dinner, eggplant dinner with the famous white French dressing. Everything was fantastic. We will have an awesome lunch tomorrow!! I highly recommended this place.
A tradition in Akron. Family dining at its best. Ambitious menu of comfort foods. Huge menu with offerings for everyone. If you cant find something you like here, stay home. Experienced wait staff, many with years and years with the restaurant. The bar scene is also lively with regulars.
We had the shrimp cocktail perfect blend of ingredients to create the best cocktail sauce. A beautiful glass of Quill Cab with the cashew crusted trout, I know white wine might have been more appropriate. Finally a chocolate desert pudding with cherry ice cream, crazy good and homemade. Natalie the server was superlative.
Had a problem yesterday with a take out order on garlic bread. Kim was quick and friendly to correct the problem by sending me a gift card directly to my home. This is why, I will continue as always and get my Papa Joes, Thanksgiving Eve dinner every year from you! Thank you, and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
My family and I visited Papa Joes in Merriman Valley on 04/05/19. We have never been to this your establishment before and I can truly say it was a very bad experience! We arrived there for my nieces birthday party at 6:00 pm. We had to wait a long time just for them to get our drink order. Once they did our drink order they got everyone’s food order.... We were constantly watching as guests that came after us not only receive their drinks but also there food... Still no food!!! We finally received bits and pieces of our order around 7:00 pm. We finally received our food at 8:00 pm which was horrible... No one refilled our drinks or anything and to top off the whole night they had the nerve to add in a tip of 20% for our bad service!!!! When we asked the waitress about the tip she just smirked and walked away!!!! Very very very rude and unprofessional!!!! She could of at least apologized for such a bad night!!!! At the price of the food we should have been treated better... I will NEVER come back and I will let everyone I know to stay clear of this place!!!! Thanks but no thanks!!!!
My favorite restaurant! The cashew trout, chicken francaise and chicken marsala are my go to dishes. Great atmosphere, perfect date night or anniversary dinner. We take our kids sometimes as well, they have a kids menu. Price point is around $20 a plate, portions are large. I usually have lunch the next day with left overs. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. They have a deli/ wine room that has a large selection of wine and sweets in the deli are great....love the cannolis!
This place is amazing, awesome food, amazing drinks and a step back in time to a place where customers were treated like guests. Kim and her staff go above and beyond for that special night, or just a quiet dinner out. Also their catering is second to none. Love this place
I guess Im not alone on this one....as Ive read many other reviews on the terrible service. It seems unless your an old time, regular, you get treated like a second rate citizen. Apparently they have all the business they need. Which is a good thing, because after waiting over an hour for our food, with no explanation from our stuffy waiter. I will not be returning.
Waitress was either drunk or had severe memory loss. Still looking for a water refill, bread, a box and our appetizer. The best part of the dinner was when the waitress came back for the third time - in a 15 minute span- to ask if we would like a box. The answer was yes all three times. Food was absolutely nothing to come back for. Worst meatballs and marinara i have ever had. The chicken on the grilled chicken salad was tough and the only flavor was of freezer burn. The stuffed peppers were not horrible, but not good either. It was more like a plate of melted (mixed) cheese with some tiny banana peppers and pureed sausage drippings. The chicken parm was the highlight of the meal coming in at just average. Better go in starving to rate higher than two stars.
To me, going to Papa Joes is like going into someones home. They make you feel at home, the food is always good, and the prices are reasonable! My favorite is the Chicken Francaise. I never get tired of it - tender chicken, with lemon and parmesan. YUM! Good food and great service. This is a place that provides a quality and delicious meal. Y’all will not go wrong making a decision to go here. Go and Enjoy Papa Joe’s consistently provides good food! Think they have among the BEST steaks in town! Truly delicious!

2022-05-19Got the prime rib, it was good. Not my style, but you will not be disappointed if you order it. Eggplant was fried and yummy. Calamari was fresh as well. My drink was good and strong. Taylor was our server, she was very nice. So was the bus boy, didnt grab his name. Lots of parking.

2022-07-01Food is absolutely spectacular. Our server was very nice from beginning to end. We started with the smoked mozzarella and stuffed hot peppers, both were delicious. My husband had a fillet and I had fettuccine Alfredo, it was perfect. We will definitely be back again. It was about a 40 minute drive from where we live and it was worth it!

2022-01-25I have ordered from the carry-out side of Papa Joes twice. Both times my meal was excellent. The chicken parmigiana is very good. I love their selection of appetizers. The tiramisu is excellent, as are the seasonal frosted cookies that I picked up on a whim when grabbing my order. The second time I ordered here was for their Thanksgiving meal. Papa Joes saved my Thanksgiving, as we were unable to see family. The turkey meals were excellent! After two meals for two people we still had leftovers that lasted a couple of days. I loved the whipped sweet potatoes and the jello salad for that meal.Overall, I have been very satisfied with Papa Joes both times I have ordered carry-out. I am looking forward to dining in for a special occasion soon.

2022-02-06Food was good, service was excellent. The reason I am only giving 4 stars is the price. I understand in these times all prices are up but this was pasta and not much of it for, in my opinion, a very high price. That being said I would go again as the food was good but not the best ever to justify the elevated prices. It is not the most exorbitant prices ever, I just felt higher than you would normally pay for the same food elsewhere.

2022-02-27I went here for a bridal shower and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff was attentive and you must try their white french dressing. I stopped by their Italian market before leaving to buy some to take home. I will be trying the restaurant in the future.
