Third trip at this campground. I have loved it every time we have been here. I love the size of the sites and the real estate we get for each site. I like the size and height of the fire rings. Some of the sites even have a water view. I hate that the COVID-19 has the activities shut down. We had so much fun the last two years with archery and canoeing. Nevertheless, we had a great time on the water this year. The lake is not large but it has unlimited horse power and great for tubing and having fun on the seadoo and jet boat. The host at the campsite was very friendly. We went on 2 hiking trails, well maybe 3 and they were all nice. Definitely will have this as an annual trip for me and my family. Adding the laundry has 2 washers and 2 dryers that are one dollar each. The facility was well kept and appeared clean.
The state park is known for some of its fall foliage. It certainly did not disappoint! It was very beautiful, and the trails are fairly easy to navigate. Just make sure youre paying attention especially when you are near water crossing trails because those can be a bit confusing. Those are also some of the more moderate and difficult places, but still worth it. 😍
We had a great experience out on the lake. Clear of debris floating in the water, ramps are well maintained and easy to use. The only complaint I have is that the restrooms are unusable but they do have a port-a-potty avaliable. We have AT&T, and had service on most of the lake, only spotty in a few places but came right back. My family and I had a great day on the water and will be back soon ☀️☀️
Nice clean camping area, well maintained and mowed. Trees over by the tie lines do need cared for as far as the branches being broken related to weather damage, trails are very muddy , could benefit from drains and gravel maintenance. Trails for people riding from out of town need to be marked better this would really bring more people out to the area because people like to know where they are and special sites on the trails. Thank you .beautiful sites
Had a great weekend camping here. The grounds were very well maintained and the bathrooms were very clean but need updated. The only negative thing I would say is that some of their sites have big slopes on the side where most campers doors and awnings are on so go on the website and see the sites so you can see what site will work best for you... other than that this is a great clean family friendly campground and I highly recommend it... Also there isnt cell reception so be aware of that too.
First time at this state park. It was one of the biggest that Ive camped at this year. All the sites had electric hook ups which was nice. The only thing I would recommend is look at the camp ground map before deciding on a spot. The site I was on was level but after that it had a steep drop off of a hill. It made things a little interesting going up to the camper then down to the fire ring. The park was well maintained the hosts were very friendly along with the rest of the campers that were there.
Beautiful campsites! Some clear cut and too close together, some with trees/shrubs separating sites for privacy/intimacy, yet some sites were situated far enough from each other to provide comfortable intimacy. Shower houses and comfort stations were clean. Staff friendly and helpful.
Stayed here with my daughter and 2 great grandkids and we love it here! This is our second time here and we got the same campsite! The campground is very well kept! Flowers are so pretty and the grass is always cut All the young people working in the camp store are very helpful and so friendly!!the only complaint I have is the showers could use new shower curtains there was mold on them and the inside of showers could use some bleach
Great park. Havent fully explored it but it has great hiking trails and fantastic crappie fishing. Easy to kayak on with good views of rock walls/small cliffs. The trail by the spillway runs along a cliff and its super cool, definitely recommend that one, entrance is near the playground down there. Cant get a ton of that quality of scenery in Ohio.
Paint Creek is a great place to fish and hike and camp. The spillway area is nice for family picnics and fishing. Theres a small playground for kids and plenty of places to fish up to the spillway and on the other side as well. Fishing is great for bluegill, catfish and crappie. The campground has many nice sites. They have a nice little camp store and there is activities and movies they show on certain nights. They have a miniture golf area and Frisbee golf course. They have a nice playground area for kids and a sand volleyball court near the playground.. There is hiking trails as well as bike trails. The bath houses are a little worn but clean. There is a laundry facility at the bathhouse as well. There is no beach location in the campground so you have to drive to go the beach. The park rangers made regular cruises through the campground area. Regardless of a day, a weekend, or a week Paint Creek State Park is a wonderful park to spend some time hanging out with nature.
Paint Creek State park is a wonderful place to visit and there is something there for just about everyone. You can go for the fishing, go camping, boating, hiking, archery, or even play mini golf. The scenery looks beautiful all year long. There is also a couple of areas which have playgrounds to give any kids a chance to have some extra fun or burn off some extra energy before your drive home.It is worth stopping to see the area, even if youre just passing by. The view from the dam is worth the detour just to see a beautiful view for a few minutes.
I think this is a very nice and clean park, however, there seems to be a problem with the management of the park. The vehicle traffic is unbelievable. The cars and trucks absolutely fly through this place, we keep thinking that someone is going to get ran over. Golf carts are another hindrance. I want a golf cart as much as the next guy, but there is a way to use them. As soon as night time gets close, it is a racetrack around this place with carts. The idiots have off-road led light bars shining in every direction and just don’t care who they are blinding. This is one of the few campgrounds that does not have a checkin station to get through the gate. This place is a total free for all. There are parks that respect the campers by keeping the riff raff to a minimum, this is not that place. We will never come back. ALTHOUGH, they do have good ice cream
We really enjoy the campgrounds . But site 42 is not the best site it slopes really bad and before we came down I checked to see if I could transfer us to a better site to accommodate my husbands needs due to his disability. Pleased that we could change to a better site due to we knew what this site looked like back in May we had same site so I knew I needed to move us to accommodate his needs . Other than the site being horrible we love the state park .
Beautiful campgrounds although new sites with full hook up. The camp site we were on wasnt good. We were on the side of a hill. Needs to be leveled out on the opposite side from the hook ups. You came out your camper and immediately theres a hill. No room to move your camper over farther the other side either.
We went for a return trip after 24 years. The condition was disappointing. The only dumpsters available are past the camp office, which requires a long walk carrying your trash or driving to the dump station. This is a big hassle. We stayed from Saturday to Friday. The restrooms were only cleaned once that whole week. This cleaning was only due to incoming weekend campers. If you are staying through the week, be prepared to travel for ice because that is not stocked well.We had a 2 beautiful sites that were large and shaded well. #158 and #160. The remaining sites are hills or very small. Some sites are barely suitable for RVs let alone tent campers. The beach is nice and clean. However, there are only port a potty facilities. So, you cannot change or shower there. The view is incredibly beautiful. The hiking trails are very overgrown and difficult to traverse.Fishing is good.
We purchased a Deck Site at the Paint Creek State Park Campground and we could not have been happier! The weekend we stayed it was in the 90s all weekend and it was at least 25 degrees cooler at our site due to the amount of tree cover we had. We enjoyed the campground very much. There were a lot of trails leading around the campground and down to the lake. They also have a Frisbee Golf Course on site and a Mini Golf Course. We drove down to the Paint Creek State Park Area and hiked on more trails, climbed the side of the rock cliffs, and explored the waterways around the Dam. The park is beautiful and it is truly relaxing.
Still a beautiful park. Campground is not what it used to be. Bathrooms are in poor condition and rarely cleaned. The closest beach is sad. No bathrooms, only porta potties. No grills. One bent up picknic table. Nearby North beach is good. Playground, tables, still no grills. I like the park. Its an awesome spectacle of nature but the campgrounds need much updating and regular cleaning.
We loved it. The maintenance man was very pleasant and very helpful. It is a beautiful campground. The only complaint I would have is there is no access to a beach or a swimming pool. They should either make a beach or install a pool. Other than that, it was the best campground we have ever stayed at. The bath houses were clean. The park was clean. Overall a very nice campground.
I stayed here this past weekend, and it was my first time camping. The campground was pretty standard, but we went for the hiking. The hiking at the campsite was definitely below par. The trails were overgrown and neglected. If you go, I highly recommend hiking in the nearby reservoir area. This is where all the pictures are from that youll see on google. Its in the park (Paint Creek Lake), but it is about a 10 minute drive away. You can, also, swim in the lake, but that is about a 15 minute drive from the campsite. All in all, if youre going for the camping, its a good spot. If youre going for the hiking, I would not recommend hiking there.
The camp site we chose was very nice. Plenty of room for a tent or two with a fire pit and even a grill grate for the pit. Each site has its own picnic table and there are plenty of bathroom facilities (some with private shower stalls). Its a little more touristy than we usually do for camping. It was very popular with the camper crowd. The area around the park has plenty of hiking trails and Paint Creek Lake was fun to fish. My wife and I had a great time.
Nice campsites, we did one of the deck sites. The restrooms and shower houses were nice, very nice camp store. They have putt putt, an amphitheater where they played a movie for the kids Saturday night, volleyball and basketball courts and playgrounds. Definitely the nicest state park weve been to. The only thing it was missing that would have gotten five stars would be full hookup, which Ive yet to see at a state park.
Much exceeded our expectations. We chose the premium site which is $2 extra but well worth it - not only you have a little porch but the location is much nicer and you just have much more room.Nearly all campers were in huge RVs so during the whole weekend not ONCE I met someone in the bathroom. It was all to us.There are many very nice hikes near by, two days is hardly enough for all of them. The weather was perfect too, with fall colors and 75 degrees. Hard to imagine a better weekend in Ohio!
Love fishing there, really took care of compaired to alot of other lake around. Restrooms are really nice also, they are lighted which is really appealing. Only downside is that if you fish the spillway it does get a little cramped at times. They do have stairs that lead down to creek to help those in need.
The bathrooms are not well maintained! I walked in everyday and still no soap in the dispenser!!! There are no pathways to the restrooms so when campers come they block off the whole way to the restroom, which means you have to either go around or cut through their sites! EVERYTHING at the campstore is soooo overpriced!!! For 10 small rolaids its $3.69!!! All the ground is not leveled at all!!! If I could give it 0 stars I would!!!
Paint creek was very nice I tried a different location to fish the time hoping for better luck. Fish were NOT biting. I did pick a bag trash from previous fisherman. I try to leave any location BETTER than I found it. I fished the Rattlesnake arm of the lake between the boat ramp and the Rt 758 bridge. It seems to me Paint creek is better for sight seeing Ive got friends who fish there often and have better luck 🐟 I am specifically fishing for catfish. Every time Ive went to fish the spillway its be too HIGH thatll be my next fishing spot at Paintcreek my friends have better luck there. But they are pan fish fishing. I myself am specifically fishing for catfish Blues and Flatheads which I dont THINK theres a high population of either maybe more location specific locations for the w spiecies in the lake and I just havent found those locations. I know the spillway is supposed to be panfishing and some channel catfish to. But to who go and those planning on going to Paintcreek take your trash bags with YOU IF you PACKED it in pack out STOP trying to burn glass and aluminum cans Im getting tired of picking AFTER you.Clean up after yourself I not YOUR mommy or daddy!!😠 SO PICK UP YOUR TRASH AND A LITTLE EXTRA FROM THE SLOBS THAT WERE THERE BEFORE YOU!!!!😠🐟PEACE OUT CLEAN UP ENJOY THE PARK!!!🐝😎🐟😎🎣😎🐟😎🎣🐝
Moderate sized campground; however, the roads through it are narrow and the campsites are close together and not very level. Premium sites available are waterfront and have a small deck; unfortunately other campers have no qualms about walking right through your campsite to see the water day or night. Camp store, trails, minigolf, frisbee golf, and very small playground are onsite.
Darn, this is the best kept secret in ohio for camping and boating in my opinion . Now with good Internet reviews it might become more crowded! The lake is very clear for central ohio, I believe because of a rock shoreline along a large portion of its perimeter. And the great thing is there really isnt that much boat traffic there, even on weekends! Much calmer waters than Deer Creek or Rocky Fork. The camp ground is very well maintained and nice facilities including a general store. The camp ground is as close to what I believe is the gold standard of the mid west, Kentucky, as you can get at an Ohio Lake...including clean modern bathhouses...The only thing that could be better is the beach. Some of the patrons just dont believe in picking up after themselves...
Took a trail for a bit over 3 miles with Jack and Nina, off leash. Saw no one on the trail but there were many campers in the nearby camping area, but it was very hot and the trail was muddy. Both dogs never strayed more than 15 yards away from me (come on Rangers, some dogs are well trained), so did not require restraint. I carry plenty of jerky for the dogs, so they are always in line of sight of me, wishing for a treat. Nina suffered from the heat, in that she is a long haired, black Chow-Nufi mix. I would like to check out the archery range I saw on the map on another day. On a cooler day, a 5 mile trail would be great.

2021-12-09Great State Park. Campground is clean & well maintained. The campsites are well-situated and you wont feel overcrowded. Limited tent sites.Hiking, kayaking, boating, Swimming and fishing experiences are all easily accessed. The beach is sometimes muddy and grass around it is sometimes a little to tall.I Would highly recommend this Campground.

2022-04-26Love this Beautiful park! Great place to camp. Offers boating, fishing, kayaking, putt putt, frisbee golf, mtb biking and more. Campsites are mostly electric only. Lots of great sites with a view of the lake!

2021-11-16The water level at the lake has been lowered for winter and that is interesting to see. The spillway was open so the creek was flowing quickly. I liked the rock walls and rock formations on the path along the creek to the base of the spillway.

2021-09-16Beautiful state park with a nice large beach ⛱. However ,unlike alot of other state park beaches there are no picnic tables or shaded areas at the beach itself. they also no longer have real restrooms or bathouses/changing rooms in the swimming area . they do have porta-potties so plan accordinly
