Pacific East Japanese Restaurant in other cities:
This place is the BEST of the best! My mom and I are consistently seeking out the best sushi places, and have done so in multiple states and pacific east continues to hold the top spot! I have come here a multitude of places and never fail to be entranced by the quality of their food. I am from Ohio but go to school in NC, and pacific east is one of those things I look forward to with every visit! If you are a sushi lover, this place will blow you away!
Simply, the best Sushi in Town. Ordered the Boat of Sushi and the whole party relished the choice cuts of premium fish presented amazingly well. The boat came with the Chefs choice of cuts and rolls and it couldnt have been any better! Not your standard sushi fare, it was all premium cuts. Not my first time, I certainly think they compare against the best sushi anywhere else.Apart from Sushi and Japanese, the restaurant also have a Malaysian menu (interesting mix!) that has some choice menu options.Go for it!
I love the sushi. BUT… if you place an online order make sure you set the pickup time for a time they’re actually open… it’s unfortunate that the site allows you to choose all times for pickup, even when the restaurant is closed. We drive from the west side and will continue to do so bc we love Pacific East but this last online order and pickup situation was really frustrating. Set pickup time for 4 (bc the website gave me that option). Packed up my toddler and newborn and made the 40 min drive over to Coventry. Arrived at 1615, restaurant is closed. We ended up waiting in the car but it was a long 60 minutes. Don’t expect an apology or a “yeah we’re aware of that and working on it…” mention either. The worker laughed and waved it off like “yeah, that happens but not our fault” kind of thing. Frustrating. Wish I didn’t love their sushi so much.
This place was great for takeout! The menu is YUGE! Got sushi, giant eel roll, shiitake mushroom roll, and spicy tuna. Wife got chicken katsu. The giant eel roll was good. It’s not quantity of PCs but overall diameter of the roll. It’s prob twice or more big around than a regular eel roll. Could have used a touch more eel sauce but was still very good, enough for a meal for one normal sized dude. I can eat 3 rolls with nothing else, I couldn’t finish this one.The chicken for the chicken katsu was done very well. The katsu sauce was a little off from what I am used to (not as sweet) but still very good.Spicy tuna was normal, just OK. I’ve never had or seen a shiitake roll anywhere else before. It was pretty good, not overwhelming mushroom flavor and not the best sushi roll, but as good like a California roll. Also note it’s a pretty cheap roll, well worth it.Will definitely be coming back next time I’m in Cleveland. Takeout was ready and hot / cold (Katsu / sushi) as it should have been at pickup.
The food was good, it wasnt too pricey, amd service was fast. The tempura was very good, and my favorite appetizer was the takoyaki. I had the Katsu Don (pork cutlet rice bowl) and it was gigantic! I took some home and had plenty of leftovers for another meal. This is a nice restaurant and I bet anyone can find something they like on the menu.
Be honest with your customers please. Just got my delivery from Uber eats and was very disappointed. When you read “salmon” in description of roll, you don’t expect salmon fat. My Alaska roll almost doesn’t have salmon, only disgusting fat. I won’t come back. Thank you so freaking much!
This is the best Sushi place I have been to in the Cleveland area. I particularly LOVE the Spicy Kani rolls, they are just so good. The miso soup and the salad are also good. We tend to go on the weekends so the wait can be little long but I dont mind it. The staff are very nice, however last time I went I was sat next to the computers in the middle and was bumped into several times by them moving past. Also it took till the end of the meal before our tea was refilled but they were very busy. We also got the gyoza appetizer, which was not hot and didnt really have much flavor, also didnt like the sauce that came with it. I havent tried anything from the other menus yet but intend to soon. Definitely the go to place for Sushi though!
Wonderful place to grab lunch and dinner. I ate here a few times in college and returned recently, quality is great! Ingredients are always fresh and well prepared including their sushi offerings. Staff is super helpful and attentive. Lunch specials are varied and a great value.
This place gets busy around dinner time even during the week! Even so, the service was friendly, and we had a good time. The food was good, and it looks like they have a full bar. I had a tofu appetizer that was huge for about $5. That, alone, could have been my meal. I had a wild mushroom soup, but miso is probably better. And the coconut scallops are a bit salty. Half of their menu features Malaysian food items. Pretty cool variety.
Nice environment in restaurant, I had a chance to observe whilr waiting for order.Rice is way too moist and chewy and the rice mixture is not sushi rice, my husband thinks its some sort of msg in it. I had a hard time to digest as I am allergic to msg.Hamachi-kama was disappointing. It was not broiled enough for the skin to be crispy and collar bone meat was way over cooked like it was boiled first before broiled. The ponzu sauce was not mixed properly. It would taste better if they actually used ponzu sauce from Japan branded bottle. Sashimi was fresh.Pick carefully what you eat here.
Friendly staff from the moment we walked in the door . Our server was new so she had to consult peers when we had questions but she was still great. I really enjoyed what I ordered I got another to go! ( fried rice with chicken shrimp and eggs, had a fancy name I dont remember)
Huge menu and great prices. Ordered the chicken udon and mango smoothie bubble tea. Both were delicious. It came out very very hot. The udon was served in a interesting bowl too. It was a great experience and server was very nice. I would recommend for someone visiting Coventry area.
As far as Im concerned, Pacific East is the only sushi restaurant in Cleveland. They have a well established history here, and its not without merit. Once inside, you will see National articles hung as plaques proving their legitimacy. The fish is always of the highest quality, and the rolls well executed. In addition to the Japanese sushi menu, hot pots and Malaysian cuisine are also available. This is a must-stop any time your in the area for a concert on Coventry, or on your way to the cultural center of University Circle with its museums and Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. Tonights take-out gem pictured: Blue Fin Toro sashimi.
Weve eaten from here a few times, but its likely going to be the last time for me. I ordered sushi for myself and some coworkers via Door dash. The sushi was soggy, the fish was brown at the ends and it just wasnt good. The other times Ive eaten here Ive gotten the Laksa and a few other soups. All were only okay, but Ive had much better elsewhere. This place is not very good.
Me and my guy was excited to eat here . It wouldve been our first time we decided to try it out for his birthday 🎂.. long story short we were seated served waters and that was it . We were understanding to how busy it was until 2 more tables were seated after us and the waiter took their orders before me and my boyfriend.. at that point we left and we were definitely going to spend some $ also as hot as it was the ac for whatever reason wasnt working. We will never stop back ever .
So this used to be probably the best sushi place in Cleveland before the pandemic. But I noticed after the pandemic their quality started to go downhill. I noticed they had lost their older sushi chefs and were training these teenage Chinese kids to work behind the sushi counter. And it really hurts me to say that they have been declining in quality because I loved this place. Still good sushi but not as amazing as it was. Am going to try the beechwood one today to seen if they are still up to the old standard. Again Coventry isn’t bad by any use of the word just not nearly as good as it was before the pandemic.
Pac East has always had a good reputation for their sushi (and rightfully so), but Ive always found their Malaysian menu equally impressive. You cant go wrong with anything here, but some of our staples include the sweet potato maki roll, the yasai gyoza, and the salt & pepper eggplant.
Pacific East was introduced to us by a friend who was from Korea. We have never been disappointed in either our Japanese or Malaysian menu choices. The dine-in experience is delightful because of great service, and friendly professional staff.During 2020 we only have had carry out as thats predetermined by the restaurant. We often get a tempura meal, and it has been consistently good over the years. The flavors of the food are natural, but traditional sauces and dips enhance the taste. We look forward to our next order, and reopening for dining in.
Ordered the Deluxe Sashimi and it was absolutely delightful! Presentation was top notch, taste was top tier and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of food I received; especially considering I walked out the door spending less than $30. I will definitely be back!
Since moving to Cleveland, the one thing I havent been able to find is good sushi. After trying this place, Ive found a restaurant that actually serves some great rolls! Everyone that works there is kind, the food is really good, and the prices are extremely reasonable!
The menu is huge. Actually they have two. One is Malaysian. So there is plenty to choose from. Prices are decent and you definitely get your monies worth! Portions are large. I had noodles and it was enough for two meals! It was a little bland for my taste, I like salty and spicy so I had to add to it, but the flavor was good. There is a large sushi selection and that looked really good, I did not have it though. Id definitely go back to try more
Their sushi is SOOOOOOO good. I have never been disappointed. I never had sushi before until 2 of my co-workers got me to try it from Pacific East. I will give them a positive review EVERY time. The food is very tasty and FRESH. Definitely go there. You will not be disappointed.
I am in love with the sushi at Pac East. I love that there are some really affordable options, like the Xmas roll and the negi hamachi roll. Whenever I spend more than $10 on a roll, it is so beautiful and always worth it. They are always consistent with the amount of fish in a roll and generous with the size. I don’t need to try out any other restaurant. This is the one.
My favorite Japanese restaurant (and maybe overall favorite) in Cleveland. The sushi is excellent and the entrees are consistently great. I love the motoyaki white fish and teriyaki white fish dinners best on the menu. I occasionally try something new on the Malaysian menu and have never been disappointed. The staff are also very nice and professional. I have never had a bad experience at Pacific East in the 14 years Ive been going.
I keep coming back here for their great food and portions. Two, huge, menus (Malaysian and Japanese) to choose from. Prices are cheap to moderate, you could spend $10 on two people or $40 if you want. Either way youll likely leave happy and full. Although their drinks are nothing to talk about, the beer and sake selection is nice. Last thing, my favorite place to pick up sushi on my way home from work occasionally!
We wanted to go somewhere quiet and not too busy for Valentines Day and this place was perfect. Went on the later side of the evening, so it was pretty calm by the time we got there. Waited about 10 minutes after being seated to even get water and place a drink order, but after that service was pretty good. I had the Curry Seafood Platter which was a huge portion and very tasty. The Plum wine was delicious. My date had the Teriyaki Beef Sizzling platter which was very good as well. The sushi was amazing!! We will definitely return!!!
This place actually lived up to the hype, I was worried that it was just a local favorite but it holds up and delivers genuinely great food on a national scale. The sashimi and sushi was mouthwatering, and the service was incredible. Presentation is taken a little bit literally, you actually get a boat when you order the boat for two. But it was delicious nonetheless. Atmosphere was decent, may benefit from a refresh to the decor. Again, the staff was great.
This is one of the best restaurants in the area, and is the BEST for high quality sushi. If you have had fresh fish or maybe even sushi in Japan, this is an amazing option for affordable and authentic sushi. On top of that, they have a huge menu full of quality, delicious cuisine. Some of my favorites are the Laksa and the jumbo coconut shrimp. They have another location in Kent, equally as delicious.
Hands down my favorite sushi place in both Cleveland and Columbus. The fish tastes fresh, good prices for the simpler rolls, excellent hot tea. They’ve always accommodated my dairy allergy well, although I wish they had gluten-free soy sauce (I didn’t ask on my most recent visit though)Coventry is a great location, and the atmosphere inside is warm and inviting. Will always recommend this place to my friends~
I have always loved the food but the servers are rude specifically one girl with the pony tail. I changed my appetizer order and she told me that I can’t change it. She maybe missed her lunch that day. She then forgot to bring out my tea and our drinks. So I gave her a small tip because she was so rude, she stopped me and said was there something wrong, I asked why, to which she replied that I must give her a minimum of $10 dollars in tip otherwise the store owner gets upset. Who does that?! Her service was so bad. The tip should go to the cooks in the back who do such an amazing job with the food.
Try the Malaysian noodle dish called chow kueh teow! I order noodles everywhere and these are one of my faves. If you order takeout and theres a wait, its worth it! Tip- if you have a very common name, use a different name for the takeout order so theres no chance of orders getting mixed up (Ive seen two orders for Anna get switched during a particularly busy night). I like going for lunch because the wait is usually short.
First time at this location. Pretty busy on a Friday evening. But still, great smiley service from Fen and Dante. These 2 servers showed no fatigue. Food was good. Met friends who are regulars here and who suggested that we meet here. Sashimi pieces were great as well as the Malaysian dishes.
A nice quiet place with amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, and great service. Delicious authentic Asian cuisine with reasonable prices depending on what you order. There is a large variety of options so there is a little something for everyone. It is honestly probably my favorite spot for Asian cuisine.
In 2011 I came from Wilmington NC to Cleveland Heights to visit family for the holidays. About three days before Christmas, I went to Pacific East with a friend, and had a great time. The sushi there was so good we literally could not stand up after feasting. When the pandemic is over Ill come back to visit.
Just ate lunch here for the first time. I had the Sushi lunch special which comes with 4 pcs of sushi and a roll and the chef chooses the sushi pcs. Only the tuna sushi was edible the other 3 (salmon, a whitefish and something else) were tough and I had to spit them out. Perhaps they use a lower grade of fish for the lunch specials? I won’t be back.
This is just low quality sushi. I’ve been here 3 times and it just misses. I’m a Los Angeles transplant and lived in London for a couple of years and other than getting sushi in Japan, LA, NY or London are some of the best places to get really grade A sushi. There was nothing unique here and they just give u a huge slab of raw fish on a tiny piece of rice. It’s really terrible. Won’t be going there again.
I ordered the Nigiri Sushi & Sashimi Combo for one. It was so fresh and delicious, and the pieces were large and very well cut. The sushi rice was a little overcooked but its flavour was awesome. The wait staff were all very friendly and were quick to refill my tea. Awesome food, awesome service!
This is the best sushi game on the East side, and the rest of their menu is delicious as well. The staff are always great. To save some money, go for the lunch menu. I love the Oyako Don, and always get at least another meal of leftovers out of it. Try the Malaysian menu for something different!
Really surprised at the high ratings. Service was very slow despite the fact that it wasnt busy. We ordered two rolls and both were subpar, and on top of that one of them wasnt even what we asked for; the waiter heard wrong and didnt bother repeating the order to check. We tried land and sea roll, which tasted good, but the pieces were made so large that you cant comfortably eat a piece in one bite, which ruins the sushi experience. The other roll turned out to be umagi roll and it was just slimy and tasteless. Definitely dont recommend.
Another fantastic evening here! After coming here regularly for over 10 years (its only a 10 minute walk from our house), we have never, ever had a bad experience! Had the veggie gyoza, mushroom soup, and spicy tuna roll. Everything perfectly prepared! Hubby got a plate full of various sashimi specials off the ever-changing board at the sushi bar. He loved every piece. Thanks for being deliciously consistent!
Pacific East is the best combination of quality fish and pricing in the area. Its not the best sushi in town, but its the best youll get without spending a ton. The quality of service is also top notch. The Malaysian food is delicious. Their roti chanai, served with chicken curry, is our favorite.
Probably the best sushi near me (Cle Hghts). The rolls are good, but the quality is not always consistent. When my husband and I cant think of a place to eat and want something reasonably healthy, we go here. The best part is its generally not packed, even on a Friday night, so we get fairly quick service.
The service is bad and the waits are really long both for a table and for food. Not to mention theres no waiting area so its impossible to get from the door to the hostess. And they dont take reservations. The environment is very loud and chaotic. When its busy its impossible to hear other people. Ive been there multiple times and have tried different meals and have never liked the food. Something about it tastes/smells weird so I never eat much of it. I do not eat sushi so I cant comment on it, but it seems they have good sushi. But other than than, there doesnt seem to be good options.
My miso soap was good although the sushi was not as good as expected based on there reputation and reviews. My maki rolls were huge as well as my nigiri. Could not fit the cut peices in my big mouth and trust when I say that I have a big mouth! The fish was fresh although the skill level of who ever rolled our sushi was what I questioned. Could of done that myself. I will give it another try just because I am in the neighborhood.
The food is not exceptional and the spider roll was a bit fat.But what a surprise when, straight after the main course they directly brought the bill, a bit surprised we asked why they bring the bill so soon as we want a dessert... They said that the kitchen is closed. I have never seen that in my whole life. Just amazing. We just have been fired from the restauran! It is a lack of consideration for the customer and leaves the impression that the customer is just a sheep. Dear owner: be careful with your guests, they bring you money and make your business working. Have respect for them. It takes a long time to build a reputation but it could take a second to collapse it. I am even more surprised as i know that japanese people have generally some high values.
The food has always been great there. They have a great selection of Asian cuisine. The only thing preventing it from being a 5 star experience is the fact that service was really slow. We werent the only ones either as I can see other customers stopping servers and asking them if they could order.
Pacific East is a really authentic place to eat Japanese food, and especially sushi. This place has the best sushi in the city. Period. The sushi bar is jamming with 3-4 sushi chefs at any given time. Sitting at the sushi bar is a great way to experience the place. We went with our son, who lived in San Francisco and has travelled to Asia for his sushi and he felt Pacific East was as good as any he’s tried.Know your sushi if you can before you go here. That way you can take full advantage of the expanded sushi menu. The wait staff does not all speak very fluent English, but that just adds to the authentic feeling here.Don’t confuse this restaurant with the mediocre restaurant with the same name on Chagrin Blvd. They also serve Malaysian food here. It’s a great place to experience food from the part of the world.Lastly, it’s in the Coventry area. Take a walk before or after dinner to check out the neighborhood. It’s Height Ashbury in Cleveland. The 60s never left the Coventry area. Record Revolution has vinyl albums and a head shop. It’s where Rocky Horror picture show played before it moved to the Cedar Lee theatre.
Listen, if you love burgers and if you love lobster, this is the place for you. This place here is so awesome. The ambiance is stunning. The food is banging, the drinks are impeccable. Even the French fries are life! Lol the service is so nice. I had the combo with burger and lobster and also a lobster roll!!!!! Everything is made with love
Ordered pick up. When we arrived to pick up our meal, everyone was crammed inside with no COVID19 regulations being enforced or followed. No masks, no social distance. The staff avoided the customers. Even the delivery food workers couldnt get their attention. People started yelling out the names of their orders. We could even see our order over the counter, yet wasnt able to get it for over 45 minutes. Chaos. It was the worst experience weve ever had with take out. ... and after all that, they ended up messing up our order. Just decided to take the L and not order from there again.
Awesome Asian restaurant in Coventry. Definitely my go-to whenever my friends and I are feeling indecisive. Also make sure to try some things on their Malaysian menu, which I feel is often overlooked. Their beef stir-fry noodles and Laksa noodle soup are both amazing. They also have great Japanese cuisine, but I feel like most people know that already.
The parking can be slim, but thats about the only thing off with this place. The food is amazing and dirt cheap, theres both a Japanese/sushi menu and a Malaysian menu, and the vibe is always right. Its won awards, the service is pretty fantastic and everything is amazing all the way down to the bubble tea. Expect to spend less than $15 and get a banquet.
Losing its touch. The sushi here is good and reasonably priced. I have gotten food poisoning multiple times but whatever, mayonnaise in summer. The (non-sushi) entrees are often misses. Bland, thin broth, cold. The menu is too big and quality suffers.Even the tea is watered down severely.
Service is always top notch. Id really recommend trying items from the Malaysian menu as the Japanese food is already known to be some of the best on the east side. Laksa is a delicious dish similar to ramen but with signature Malaysian seasoning found throughout the rest of the menu. One of my faves on Coventry!
Id like to give three and a half stars, but rounding up seemed more appropriate. Much of the Malaysian food is delicious, especially the noodle dishes. However, the sushi is subpar (the woman next to me complained her fish was very chewey and I am inclined to agree). The ghee pancake appetizer is fantastic though.Interior aesthetic really screams, this is a sushi restaurant in the midwest, but it is otherwise perfectly acceptable.
Can anyone say anything bad about this place? Even if sushi’s not your bag, the Malaysian menu is poppin’ as well (L A K S A N O O D L E S), smoothies are great (unless you’re looking for “King of the Fruit”, which they apparently no longer carry), and the service is consistently fast, efficient and cordial. For what it’s worth, this is the best restaurant - of any kind - in Coventry or the Heights overall. Now if i could just get out of the house in time for those lunch deals...
I ordered from this place on door dash. I got a salad, edamame, and sushi. It was all really good until I was eating the sushi and discovered A STAPLE IN MY FOOD. I was chewing a piece and bit onto something hard, so i spit it out expecting it to maybe be a fish bone or something along those lines but nope. it was an actual metal staple. How does that even happen??? It makes me really nervous because who knows what else I couldve consumed before finding that. There is clearly a serious food safety issue here.
Came here while visiting some friends in Cleveland.Had some of the best tempura Ive had in the states and my vegetarian girlfriend, who loves ramen was able to ask to make sure the miso broth was vegetarian. We had to wait a bit but when it came out we knew it was freshly made due to how hot it was but is was some of the best veggie miso broth shes had.Tldl very good Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices.
Absolutely amazing, authentic food. My wife and I always get sushi when we go to this restaurant. They also serve some other really interesting food (The Mee Siam is out of this world and really reasonable for the amount of food). Weve been there many times and will continue to go back.
Every time we go the food we get is just ok. We see other peoples food and it looks delicious. My husband got a chocolate smoothie and it didnt have much of a taste. I got a honet dew smoothie and it was pure sugar. Maybe we just dont know what to order and the servers we get are never very helpful.
Mouse Alert!!!! This is so disappointing to write because this is our go to sushi place ever since we moved to Cleveland (3 years and counting). But as we were finishing up our lunch today I couldn’t believe what we saw! A tiny mouse running up and down the windowsill. To make things worse the staff saw it and tried to catch it by closing the blinds! At first we thought it was maybe a fly or a bird but as we were paying for our meal the mouse jumped off the window and ran across the room...I was mortified. When we mentioned this to the server all they said “sorry it must have came in from the outside”. I wasn’t expecting a free meal by any means (we paid for ours) but it would definitely make me more comfortable if the staff simply notified people at the place and closed the restaurant early for further investigation (if they truly believed that’s how the mouse got in). With all the diseases associated with mouses/rats this was unacceptable way to treat the situation. Unfortunately Pacific East lost 2 (if not more) customers today.
One of my top 3 restaurants in Cleveland. You will be hard pressed to find a better cost:quality ratio anywhere. Ive eaten here at least 50 times over the years and I have never been disappointed (outside of a forgotten item once). The staff are incredibly accommodating if you have special requests. They use much higher quality rice and nori than places that charge 2x the price. The portions are also very substantial. Parking can be a pain, but its in Coventry, so it should be expected.
Day 2 of norovirus ... having scrolled down and ironically seeing my brother in law leaving a bad review I’d say I guess it’s not a fluke . I’d never eat here again . I didn’t finish what I ordered and thank god I’d probably be even more sick which at this point is hard to imagine . I will NEVER come back at I may never eat sushi again. I ordered a land and sea and 2 spicy tuna maybe ate a piece of each and still left a more than reasonable tip. Clean it up , nobody should be as sick as I am right now .
Went to the Eaton location. If I could post a zero I would. Very expensive and not that great. Also, Im pretty sure the tuna in the tempura roll was from a can. Ive had rolls that were fried before and the tuna never cooked that much it was terrible and all rice in the middle. Otani is so much better. At least they give you sushi and not just rice with sauce. Never going back!
The quality of the sushi here is excellent. Ive had sushi in many places including NYC, SanFran, and Japan. The sushi is incredibly fresh and surprisingly holds its own with some of the best Ive had in much larger Asian markets. The Iso Maki roll is phenomenal. They use a special seaweed and the roll is very large and reasonably priced. Ive also had bluefin toro here. Very fresh. This place can get packed at times and service can be a little slow but not for lack of effort. They just get really busy.
Probably one of the best Japanese restaurants one could find in the area. Offers solid main course options as well as sushis. This restaurant participates in SkyMiles/MileagePlus Dinning, making it a great venue for everyday outingsEdit: As of October 2019 the restaurant no longer participates in the airlines dinning programmes.
Freshest sushi in town! They serve pretty basic sushi and rolls but the quality is excellent and the price is right. Great lunch specials and a really nice Malaysian menu: try the Roti Chanai as an appetizer. The servers are friendly and attentive. It doesnt have the most trendy vibe, but if youre looking for a good atmosphere but only average fish, go to Sushi Rock... (or Parallax for good food and vibe, but much more pricey). Also, skip the soda at Pac East (no free refills) and get a bubble tea instead. All in all, best sushi youll find on the east side.
The server didnt ask how to cook beef in teriyaki and brought me a medium rare steak. Id say if you dont ask then do at least medium. Also my request to bring a fork was ignored. The food was mediocre. Servers were not very friendly. Overall, not a pleasant experience.
This is a fusion restaurant and have pretty decent Malaysian food menu. Ordered Rojak, roti canai, nasi lemak and prawn noodle. Rojak is not what I expected, roti canai is good, crispy and tasty curry. Nasi lemak is fusion as well as prawn noodle. Worth a try tho if you are missing some south East Asian food. They also have menu for Japanese food.
Overall disappointing Japanese cuisine. Been to Pacific East three times for their Japanese food since Ive lived in Japan and crave Japanese dishes occasionally. So far Ive ordered their Katsu Don bowl, their Japanese Curry bowl, and their Tonkatsu Ramen. The dishes have been progressively worse with each visit. Katsu Don bowl was good; nothing special. The Curry dish was not great; didnt have much sauce, was mostly potatoes and was already spread over the rice when served. The Ramen was just awful; it didnt look like a typical bowl that has the ingredients arranged on top, noodles were under cooked, as much bean sprouts as noodles, there was only one small piece of meat and one, brown, overcooked egg, and the broth tasted bad and was a milky white color. So I dont recommend going there for the cooked Japanese dishes. I have tried some sushi from my friends orders and that was good. And I havent had their Malaysian food so I cant speak about that.
I really like the food there. I’ve been always going there regularly. But some of their waitresses are terrible. I don’t think they know what they’re doing and respect customer’s time. I strongly recommend you open every stapled bag and covered boxes to check if they put everything in it. I ordered some food to go today. One waitress forgot to put a box of sushi in my bag. And they stapled the bag so I couldn’t check in advance. I had to drove for another hour back there to pick up what they forgot. And no rewards offered, no apology given. Also, there are supposed to be 2 spring rolls, but they only gave me one. And I asked specifically no wasabi for the sushi and sashimi but there still is wasabi next to my food. And all of these, are not the first time happened. BTW the waitress today is the one doesn’t speak Chinese.
Good pan Asian cuisine located in historic coventry. I was a frequent customer a decade ago before I relocated and was not disappointed when I returned for a visit. The bento box lunches are still delicious with a generous selection of soup, salad, appetizers, and entrée. Portion sizes are just a tad small but otherwise still a great experience!
Yelp recommended this place for ramen. As Ive been craving ramen ever since moving here from the West, and the lack of authentic Japanese restaurants around I figured why not. The ramen was terrible. But the roti was delicious. Shouldnt have expected much from a Japanese / Malaysian restaurant run by Chinese people. At least they also serve bubble tea.
The food quality is usually amazing however service has not been up to par. I’ve had quite a few experiences when service was unpleasant. My latest experience was disappointing trying to place a takeout order the phone lines were busy for over an hour when the phone was finally answered you could hear the employees in the background but no one to service the call. No one even came back for my order. I called back again about 45 mins later because the phone line was busy since they never hung up my last call and finally got an order in. Once I arrived at the restaurant to pick up my order I had to wait another hour for them to confirm my order to tell me that they CANCELED MY ORDER WITH NO NOTIFICATION! Again I admit the food quality is usually amazing as far as the service it has been horrible as of recently and service used to be amazing idk what the issue is but management and service needs drastic improvements. This is one of my favorite restaurants so I will bring my business back again as a reoccurring customer I am hoping the provided service makes some necessary improvements.
Terrible raw fish. I almost had malaria after I ordered the pricy Combo for One for dinner. I didnt sleep well because I have to rush to the toilet 6 times that night. I am pretty sure the fish is NOT fresh! I had fresh fish in Japan and it didnt upset my stomach at all.The layout of the restuarant is very crowded as well. Very difficult for a 6 feet guy to walk between the tables. Very dark inside, too. My friend found a piece of HUMAN NAIL in his hand roll. Very disgusting and turned down. All the waitresses there speak very confusing English whicn made my order extremely difficult.Very pricy food as well.Pricy and not fresh.
I wish I did not have to give this restaurant even 1 star. I was at the restaurant today and was sipping my glass of water. As I get closer to the bottom of the glass, I notice something dark green/brown and tubular, perhaps 5mm in length. I have worked with lab rats in the past and I am quite aware of what rodent excrement looks like. I fished it out with a straw and dropped it onto a white napkin, it was mushy and left behind a brownish colored smear, again consistent with my fear that I had in fact just ingested water tainted with rat poop. I called the waiter (Jay) who immediately tried to explain it away as bean paste or some vegetable. He took the napkin and poop to his manager and a group of other employees. My friend and I noticed that both the waiter and another employee were laughing at what appeared to be my expense. He came back and offered a refund of my meal and that of my friend--no apology. When I asked what vegetable they have in the kitchen that could resemble this specimen, the waiter retorted, there is none. Well then, how can this possibly be a vegetable??On our way out, I again saw the same female employee bent over with laughter, she was too busy laughing to notice that I was staring at her in horror and disbelief--the other employees standing next to her took notice and looked as though they were caught doing something they shouldnt be doing. She on the other hand just continued, because apparently a customer drinking rat feces is absolutely hilarious. I have called the Cleveland Board of Health to file a complaint. As evidenced by my experience at this restaurant today, this staff lacks professionalism, decency, cleanliness and sheer concern for their customers well being. I would NOT recommend this place to anybody--eating here would be putting your health at risk. There is a pest control issue that needs to be addressed. I beg of you to please eat elsewhere, unless youre up for finding a little bonus ingredient with your meal.
Growing up with a deep rooted Filipino taste for Asian cuisine take this review with a grain of salt. This place is more traditional then a Bennihana or Sushi Rock (recently closed-Beachwood). However in Cleveland, Ohio traditional Japanese restaurants are definitely few and far between. Pacific East is an excellent Japanese restaurant. Having tried the little variety of Asian cuisine in North East Ohio this place ranks high. Typical service, good prices, and excellent food. The variety of traditional Japanese dishes is great. From Pork Katsu (panko breaded) and the endless number of sushi items this place is just the best. If your looking for a good night out for some sushi or Japanese food this is your best bet in Cleveland. The Coventry location is much better in my opinion (PARK ACROSS THE STREET) to the one on Chagrin. The Chagrin location has terrible parking options and the actual restaurant is only a few tables. If you dont take my word for it, just check this place out any night of the week and you will see tons of Case Western Reserve students directly from Asia appreciating the food as well (they are usually a great time!). All in all this place is an A++ and I will continue to go here as long as they keep pumping out a quality product at a competitive price. Now to find an All you can Eat Korean BBQ. The one in Parma (Seoul Garden) is not all you can eat but it is excellent as well.
Absolutely terrible service - 7 pm on a weeknight, the place is half empty, and it takes us 10 minutes to be noticed and seated. The questionable quality of the fish was certainly not enough to make up for the inattentive staff. Parking on Coventry is also a disaster - better to hit up the Eaton location if you really want the Pacific East experience.

2021-08-16Very tasty, would recommend! Its a little bigger than a mom and pop joint, but its got a lot of good stuff. We didnt get any sushi but what we saw looked good, and you can see it prepared in the front. Both dishes we got were very tasty

2022-03-18Having lived in NYC for 11 hrs now I wasnt high on hope when my wife wanted me to go to a sushi place in Cleveland Ohio... I fully admit I was wrong. This place had sushi that tasted fresh off a fishing dock, like the dude/dudette in the boat handed it to the sushi chef to cut for me. Rolls were excellent as well, loved their various sauces and their bbq eel. We ate so much here, I think I had to be rolled out afterwards. Excellent bar selection to go with your meal as well.

2022-04-19First time here and first thing is first that drink was super delicious even though it was small and didn’t taste any liquor, the flavors were good. it was very crowded in there, you can tell they are popular and they did have a lot of doordash orders. i tried the manhattan roll, it was great but too much mayo for my liking. i ordered the teriyaki scallops, they were okay to me but i did like the brown sauce that came with it. the brown rice was very dry, i feel like if they offered fried rice it would have been a better choice. i tried squid for the first time here and it was tasty, kind of rubbery but it wasn’t bad at all. i do want to come back and try more sushi because they have a huge selection of sushi and to get that drink but food wise idk yet.

2021-11-07Wonderful ambiance - clean and plenty of space. Quick service and incredibly friendly. Some of the freshest sushi I’ve had in a long time with more than reasonable prices. Don’t forget to add some cocktails to your meal for a steal and warm miso soup. Couldn’t have been happier my experience here!

2022-04-21An excellent purveyor of Japanese (& Malaysian) treats. They also have an excellent assortment of Japanese sake. I most often order the toro tartar but on my visit the other day, I tried the yuzu tuna. The cubed and lightly dressed tuna (also scallions, roe and sesame seeds) was on a bed of greens in a heart shaped wall of thinly sliced avocado in a yuzu ponzu sauce. I am generally a bit prejudiced about avocado in sushi/sashimi but have to admit this was a very flavorful appetizer. I include a photo of the Toro Tartar and the Black Pepper Tuna appetizers and the Ten Zaru. One of the delicacies available from the sushi bar is botan ebi. The raw large shrimp is accompanied by the fried head. A rare delight.Another photo of a pair of botan ebi attractively arranged on a bamboo design plate. The agedashi tofu appetizer. The hamachi kama (yellow tail collar bone) is a delicious accompaniment to cold sake. There are morsels of lightly grilled fish in the channels of the bones. I recently ordered a maguro, chutoro, otoro combination. A delicious tour of tuna flavors.

2022-03-25This is a great authentic Japanese restaurant on Coventry thats been around for years. Theyre so authentic that they give you chopsticks at the table before they give you silverware. There are numerous sushi options and the other entrees have generous portions at a fair price. They also have a great selection of sake! If you love seafood and/or want to try authentic Japanese cuisine, this is a great place to check out!

2021-12-07The salmon roll will make you feel the love you’ve been missing. The salmon roll is the truth! All the sushi. But I can not emphasize the salmon enough. Pacific East is amazing! Great good all around and always such nice staff!

2021-04-16This is a fine little restaurant in Cleveland Heights which features Japanese and Malaysian cuisine. From sushi to variety of rice, soups, noodles and more. I been here many times and I can’t find my review or this slip away because I had several dish pics I could have posted. So my wife enjoys this place, for me who don’t eat seafood, tofu and I’m very picky with the types of noodle I will eat. This place still has plenty of options for me to choose from, Teriyaki Steak, Spicy Basil Chicken, Fried Rice and the Beef Short Ribs. So my wife ordered Mee Goreng and I had Sizzling Beef Short Ribs. Very delicious and when I use to drink, their Asian beers are great. Now I drink soft beverage or the Kiwi smoothie my favorite. I highly recommend coming here.
