Amazing! Tons and tons of books and movies in nooks and crannies just waiting for someone to pick them up and enjoy! Being a heavy reader this is a bit of a dream come true. Lots to dig through and an ever changing selection.FYI dont expect to eat off the floors or wear your favorite white blouse. Its an old warehouse! Filled to the brim with dust and books. Get over it and read!!!
Such a neat place. They did have to raise the prices from 1 dollar to 1.25.But still its a good deal. This is the second time we made the trip here and looking is fun.Its like a treasure hunt.Next time I go I would bring something like a cardboard box to pack up my purchases.Watch the car eating potholes in the gravel parking lot and entrance.
One of my new favorite places to go. Great selection of homeschooling supplies. I bought 44 leveled readers for 2/$1.25. Singapore Math textbooks and workbooks for $1.25 each. I got the first four Twilight series in Hardback for $5.The only thing theyre missing is a coffee nook.
Had no idea this place was back here til my wife mentioned it. This was our first visit so we were uncertain what to find driving around to the back of the old warehouse Bldg. Walking in to the first garage area still left us feeling unsure but once you get thru the old rubber weather strips and down the wood pallet path it is really a nice shop. Huge collection of movies and books from all genres. We walked out with 50 titles for $50. My wife will be stopping in again soon with the kids. Before visiting another book store or even Goodwill, this should be your first stop.
If your in or near Dayton this is a must visit location, on the outside its a sketchy rear entrance to a warehouse style building but on the inside is an impressive collection of books all for just a dollar each.I have kids and we go to this place to replace our home library of bedtime books. You can also bring your old books and they will supply some store credit for them.
Eventhough they are now $1.25 per item, where else are you gonna go for cheap books, dvds & a very limited game section. I even picked up 2 laser disks that were in with the vinyl albums. Vinyl selection not that good though but again people $1.25 per item. Great to take kids & go crazy.
Even though its fairly disorganized, they have a great selection of just about everything. I was able to complete a couple collections, and everythings $1. Cant beat that! Also, theres a rummage bin of childrens books where you can fill a bag for $10. Definitely will be back.
I dont get to browse here often but when I do, I swear their inventory has grown. Volunteers are always very friendly. Im usually on the hunt for certain authors and their organization makes it wonderfully easy. One of my favorites places to get lost for a few hours!Update: I feel as though this place expands each time I go back. The audiobook section definitely has! They have a lot of students/homeschoolers/people in the medical field who stop by so it was wonderful to learn today that they rotate their informational section frequently.
If you want books - a lot of books - head here and get them for cheap. This is a great way to fill a classroom with books or your own home library. The kids can go wild and fill a bag in the bulk area.Great organization here and you can find a ton of things to feed your reading appetite. You can volunteer too and earn free books. A fun way to volunteer with the family.
Great stop for a used book. Single level warehouse full of used (and a few new) books. As others have stated, the organization of them is not great. Although I thought it would be a complete free for all, they are catalogued mostly by author and section albeit not fully alphabetical. Make sure you have some time to look through. It takes some time but there are many good choices. Highly recommend.-Skyhook
Weve been here a couple of times now. We have 4 children aged 4 to 1. Weve only looked through the childrens selection so far. But its amazing! Theres plenty of room and selection for our kids to have so much fun finding a book for themselves. They love coming here. They get so excited to go pick out a new book. They also have a great selection of DVDs!
I love this hidden gem in Dayton. Many books, CDs, & DVDs for $1.00. The staff were friendly & helpful. If you have children or home school, this is a great place to purchase children books. Bring a can good for the Foodbank & they offer something good for your donation. They also buy school books, but not sure how much.
Drove 5 hours to check this place out - and Im glad I did. The building isnt quite as big as Id hoped it would be but it had all different genres of well organized books! And you definitely cant beat $1 per book. I will definitely be stopping by again if Im ever in the area!
I wish I had a bigger budget, and more time. You can see it takes lots of work to keep up with this place. Tons of books, so much that it was hard to decide what to take and almost cry at what you leave behind. Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. My 7 grand kids and I spent about an hour and a half and still didnt see or get to peruse everything. If you are a reader, love books, audio books, or even DVD movies theres no shame in your game by buying used. Something for every age and genre favorites.
I love the idea of this place. But I have a few small problems with it. Ive seen so many videos and ads and pictures that people post showing their book hauls. I didnt find really any books that I was interested in at all. I drove four hours to visit their store. It was extremely hot in there. They have thousands of books and it was a book lovers dream. But for me, I couldnt find anything I was interested in. The bins are a problem for me due to having severe back problems and cant spend a lot of time digging through bins. My sister found one book that intrigued her. My thought is its similar to goodwill and you never know what youll find. Thats great but I wouldnt go out of my way driving 4 hours to visit again. If Im passing through I may look real quick. The aisles are so narrow that two people cant be comfortably back to back looking at other shelves and two carts cannot go through at once without the awkward struggle of lifting the side and apologizing to the other person. I expected on our way there that it would go one of two ways, either it would have everything we were looking for because a lot of books we were looking for are extremely common OR we would leave disappointed. It was the latter for us. We were so bummed on our way home. But the idea is great and If youre in the area, check it out. But again, you never know what youll find so maybe dont make a special trip for it especially if you live far away from it. Staff was friendly and the place was pretty clean.
This place was awesome. For me well worth the drive. The only thing for a heads up theres not air-conditioning so if you have issues with being in the heat wait for a day when its not so hot. There are fans though. If you have kids this is a good spot for kids books too.
Looking for something specific? Probably wont find it, but thats okay. There are other bookstores and online sites to find cheap books. It used to feel pretty niche, like you stumbled across something hidden. After the popularity surge, it kind of lost some of the novel feeling.
I live almost an hour and a half away from this magnificent store. Decided to take the drive out there and let me tell you, its worth the drive! The staff were very friendly and helped us find some books that we were looking for. It lives up to its name. One Dollar Book swap(aka Book Lovers Haven) : 28 books for $28!
If you are looking for something to read but dont want to pay full price this is the place. Just be prepared that even though they try to organize it it is not like a library. Staff is super friendly and gave us a fair price on the bag of used books we traded in. Will absolutely go again.
They have an extensive collection of many different books and genres. They have some newer books and worn books but all worth $1. They also had movies and tv shows on dvd! If you are looking for something specific it might be difficult because its a huge building! I would definitely recommend spending a while here looking around. There are a lot of hidden gems throughout.
Huge place full of books, movies, games, audio books. Everything is organized pretty good. Though there are multiple large boxes full of books on the floor that havent been put away yet. Everythings pretty much a free for all. You can fit a full sized cart down all of the isles so a wheel chair should be fine. You can bring books in for store credit which is great if you have some you want to get rid of, doubles, whatever. Its not much though and they dont check condition as they just throw them in another big container bound for the floor. I brought in approx 25 books in great condition, some brand new, and recieved $11 in store credit. You wont find many books that are HOT right now but you can find some gold if you have the patience. If youre a reader, its worth at least one trip.
I love coming here! The childrens books are organized well enough that I can easily find many books I am looking for, plus extras that catch my eye. Although the other books dont seem to have a lot of rhyme or reason to their placement at times, some digging in any random spot yields treasures and thats part of the fun.
Best place ever! No need to pay full price for a book anymore. Great way to recycle. Loads of books on the shelves, and so many more books still in huge boxes on skids to be unloaded. Loads of kids books. Went specifically for gardening books and found some great ones. If you cant find something you like here, theres something wrong with you!
It legit is a warehouse of books!!! I loved it. My daughter had a blast! My son grabbed books to help with studying for ACTs and SATs. However, it was a bit stuffy. Im sure the heat contributed to that. Also, I was disheartened by the endless containers of books that I wondered would ever reach the shelves😞. I know they probably will never get all of it put away even if they hired a hundred people.
I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. We made a four hour road trip and were not disappointed. I am a book fiend and this place is the motherland. Haha. I found so many books I had been searching for. And of course, you cant beat the price! Every book truly is $1. They have DVDs, audio books, childrens books, books, books, BOOKS! I spent less than I thought I would but still came home with 4 boxes of books. I am currently deciding where to add the library addition on to our house, haha. It was an amazing trip and an amazing store. I highly recommend this to anyone, no matter what genre you find yourself gravitating toward, you will find it here. If youre debating a trip, stop, get in the car and GO. It is so worth it.
This place is super awesome for kids, teachers, parents & adults. Want a great place to find nearly ant book, movie or audio for $1 ?? Then you gotta check it out. I enjoyed going there so much that I wanted to work or even volunteer. The boss, Missy, is a great gal ! Her staff Diane & Alyssa are so sweet & helpful. Help support our small businesses. Half Price books dont even compare to One Dollar Book Swap !! Oh, if you bring any any food for the homeless, theyll give you a free book for each item you bring in. Lets keep Dayton Strong !!!!
Hot day when I went here, but no AC in the building, though they did have numerous industrial fans going. Maybe I didnt look well enough to see what they would take in for credit, and I took a bag of books on cassette tape, unfortunately they do not accept cassettes. Otherwise it is a bookworms paradise.
My favorite place to go book hunting! For all the bibliophiles (book lovers!) you must make the trip. It will be worth your while and more. Just make sure to double check their hours of operation before you head out. Its a great place to take your kids to let them pick out whatever their heart desires to read! A vey large section of the store is dedicated to kids books!
Im not a book person however my wife absolutely loves books we looked through entire place ...its not your typical store it looks kinda rough for a public business but dont let that stop you there are plenty of good deals to be had ...the ppl running the place doing pretty good for being a dollar book store set up in the rear of a warehouse...I will buy books there again ....btw I drove 5 hours to go to this store and we were not disappointed
Thousands of books for a dollar or less. Great for kids books whether it be novels, easy reads, or board books. The fiction section has some complete series and older books that are hard to find. They also have a large DVD/CD section. This area includes audio books, LPs, and some video games. It is worth checking out if you have a small budget, are a teacher, or have a voracious reader.
My only real complete is there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the placement of many things. While looking in the movies serveral of one movie would be together but then several more of the same movie seemed like theyd just been put in random spots on the shelfs. It would be nice to be able to find things easier, some sort of system for the books. Sure they have general areas, and some better know authors have their own shelf space but even going in knowing exactly what you want and having some idea where to find it, your not likely to find what your looking for even if they do have it. You cant ask for help either because the volunteers/employees dont know whats there or where.
I love this store they literally have thousands of books and DVDs? This is a great place to shop if you still like to read hardcover books and not get caught up in the ebook tablet world? With a various amount of DVDs, this is a great place for cord cutters as well? I bought over 500 DVDs for family and friends and they still enjoy getting a DVD whether its new or used especially when its one of their favorite movies? And all DVDs are only $1?
Its a great place. Only open 2 days a week. Anything on the shelf is $1. They also have bags of little kid books but I didnt look at them. Found some interesting CDs and my son found some good books hes reading now. I will return again the next time Im in Dayton on Friday or Saturday.
This place is a frugal book lovers dream. Rows upon rows upon rows of every type of book you could want. The stacks are organized and full to the brim. Its a great place to find vintage, rare, and older books as well as some new titles. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The only problem youll have is not being able to get all the books you want into your vehicle.
My daughter loves this place. Every book and movie in adult and kids is only a dollar. The cool thing about this place you can bring your old books in and get store credit. I just wish they would give you more credit than the do. I took in 20 really nice books and only got $4 store credit.
One of my absolute favorite places to go. Huge warehouse full of books!! And for only $1 each. You cant beat that. They have childrens books that is all you can fit for $10. They dont just have books though, they have DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, VHS tapes, etc. They are only open Friday and Saturday 10a-6p so its a real treat when you get to go. I have spent hours in here and try to go as much as I can. They have a program that if you bring in a canned good, you get a free book and the staff is always so nice. I love supporting local businesses and families. The only thing is, the warehouse does not have AC, but they do have fans. Volunteer opportunities are also available.
This is a great community place. I love books and manage a bookstore myself. Apart from the one time that the owner confronted me for checking reviews of books on my phone (He thought I was selling them online), I have had good experiences. Its hard to pass up a $1 book though. They have a good selection and variety. This is what keeps me coming back even though the owner was somewhat rude when he questioned me.
Large warehouse full of books for only a dollar. The only disadvantage is that the books are slightly unorganized and some are a bit worn. They have volunteer opportunities for store credit which would be great for church groups or teachers. They also have vintage books for book collectors. A few newer or popular fiction books like Twilight series, Harry Potter, and Divergent books in multiple copies. I almost bought them for classroom sets.
Books and more for a dollar! Entrance is at the back of the building. I found a few old xbox360 games, the kids found some pokemon books, and the wife found some school books. Obviously this is the type of place where selection is highly variable but fun to search for that hidden treasure.
Although the location is somewhat hard to find and appears to be a little sketchy, the people are friendly. Every single book is a dollar -- and they have a lot of high-quality books. If you are looking for middle school level books, this would be a great place to get them super cheap.
The Dollar Book Swap, also known as Murf Books, is a great place to find any type of book. If you need audiobooks, cookbooks, movies, children’s books, fiction and nonfiction, you can always find a great book. And you can’t beat buying a book for only one dollar. And if you have books you want to give away, you get a dollar for every two books. Now not everything is a dollar. There are some grouped books of about 10 that can cost 5 dollars, which is a great steal. This is a great alternative to find many books, and every time I’ve went I’ve never been disappointed. Definitely recommend.
I had an unpleasant experience my first visit, but have returned. I am a book lover so its hard to stay away from a good book store. The book swap has made many improvements. This is the best place to find deals on books. I picked up a $17 book for just a $1. Its worth a visit.
It was amazing I have never seen so many books for sale or just in one place in my entire life DVDs and CDs for sale comicagain Ive never seen that many books for sale in my life its like a library for sale and theyve got huge boxes of miscellaneous books just dance kids packed on the others kids and rooms so many books its endlessall the shelves books are dollar piece DVDs CDs on dollar it was great Im definitely going back

2021-08-21Definitely a really cool experience to go here.If your far from town and not a huge book lover this is probably a once a year stop. Of your a book lover, I suggest every month if possible.Their ya section was very small, as well as their books by black authors or any books that feature poc as main characters. I would love to see that extend bigger.Very well organized.Very nice staff.

2022-03-04This place is amazing! My husband and best friend are both avid book readers so this was a cool place to take them. I love exploring the book cases myself. My husband and I were married in November and our theme was BOOKS. This was the place! We bought a lot of books from here that were used in our centerpieces and our custom book stack that went on our cake table. It was beautiful. A lot of these items are now part of the décor in our home. What I love is that some of our friends pulled some of the books out of the centerpieces and started reading them! We honestly wanted that. Anyways, this place was a huge help to our planning and makes for a fun date night.

2022-05-24This place is amazing!! We are a homeschool family and we love books. We ended up needing two shopping carts for all the goodies we found. My kids loved the selection for their ages, my mom found fiction books she wanted to read, and I found books we can use for our home education. We will definitely return again in the future. The owner is extremely kind and helpful and seems to have a passion for what he does.

2021-06-22What an amazing find! This is a warehouse full of books, movies, audiobooks and everything is one dollar. I could’ve easily spent hours in here. Definitely plan on coming back. Everything is used and so you have to sort through to make sure you’re getting a book that’s in good condition. I saw a couple books that were colored in or were missing pages but all in all still a ton of great options. They actually have things pretty well organized by sections and as a mom of three I spent most my time in the kids section but I definitely plan on going back to explore the other ones. Staff was great and super friendly which is an added bonus for sure.

2022-08-09I cannot say enough about this place. It was remarkable, fantastic, and fabulous. As a teacher, I so appreciate the $1.25 per book. Any kind of book- the price is all the same. I was able to update my classroom library. It is so much fun to shop when you know that you are getting so many books for such a low price.

2022-05-15Could easily spend hours here! Well organized and although there is no catalog to look up the location of a specific book, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and knew exactly where 3 different titles were that I was looking for. Little dusty but it IS in an old warehouse, so that wasnt surprising or a big deal. We will be back!Note - books are now $1.25 each instead of $1.
