Was there for the Three Musketeer final outdoor show on Sunday 8/12/18, it was a fantastic show. Fun for the young and old. My wife and I, and our friends thoroughly enjoyed the show. Highly recommend it if they happen to put on another performance. Were looking forward to see Treasure Island. Thank you for all of your hard work - the 5th Musketeer.
Presently a year round theater company with a summer season in the outdoor garden of STAN HYWET HALL (714 N. PORTAGE PATH, AKRON, OHIO 44315) The al fresco amphitheater is located in the picturesque gardens The venue is a treat in itself; with beautiful picnic areas under the moonlight with the fragrance of Lillys of the Valley and the accompaniment of an impassioned bullfrog; the company now boasts a permanent year round theater as well at103 S. High StreetAkron, Ohio, OH 44308 in the Greystone Hall Theater - OHIO SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL - occupies the sixth and seventh floors. A formal lounge provides entrance to the Theater’s main floor and stage.The theater company is acclaimed for its actors, directors, musicians, stage designers and costume makers. The audience is taken on a thrill ride of emotions and time travel that never fails to delight. Each play is staged for the enjoyment of people of every age from two to 100. Its renowned cast is just as splendid as any company in London, Toronto or New York. Each production is fresh and conveys topical themes that are resonant in contemporary life while simultaneously true to historical perspective. The comedies are a personal favorite; the cast is- and staging are- always exceptional.
OSF has something for absolutely everyone. The summer Shakespeare shows at Stan Hywet are fantastic - make sure youre there in time for the pre-show Green Show, which is always hilarious! Throughout the year, they put on other plays at a beautiful theater in Greystone Hall in downtown Akron, including plays for kids, musicals, and more. They clearly love what they do, and every performance is better than the last.
This, to me is truly transporting theater. Ive been able to see performances at both their summer spot at Stan Hywet (those gardens, dinner alfresco before a show you guys!!) as well as at Greystone Hall in down town Akron, and each time the sheer passion for the work is infectious. The chemistry of the casts, the understanding of the piece, and the attention to detail- its the sorts of things that elevate theater to a true experience . ( not likely something easy to do with Shakespeare, I would think) I am always captivated by the choreography (or staging, rather), and then, theres the music. Oh, the music. I have cried laughing at some of the pieces they have performed, and they are damn fine musicians to boot. In all, OSF really creates a night that is unique, engaging and time ever so well spent.Most recently, their original production of The Three Musketeers was the most fun I have had in a theater, likely ever. True magic.
From a new company member, OSF is always a good time. Excellent acting, personable people, a great place to work and a fantastic choice if you want to see quality live theatre.

2022-05-15Interesting venu. Theater in the round. Very poor acoustics; when actor turns away from your seat, super hard to grasp words, speech. Just a mumble. Actors need mics.

2021-07-31It has always been a tradition of my family to attend Ohio Shakespeares summer productions at Stan Hywet. The aura surrounding the audience, crew and actors is so welcoming and friendly. Their latest production of Midsummer Nights Dream was fantastic. A perfect pick-me-up after a year and a half of no theatre.

2021-07-26Im not a big Shakespeare fan, but we saw them at hywet hall, a midsummer nights dream. They were VERY good. Bottom killed it! But the whole cast was talented. Costumes were exceptional. Plus, beautiful setting in the evening with lights and sounds of bullfrogs, crickets and birds. Great night.

2019-11-05The cast and crew of any of their shows are phenomenal. Ive never been dissatisfied with any of the performances Ive watched. Their tickets are also reasonably priced. If you love live theater then definitely check them out!

2019-08-07Enjoyed watching both Hamlet and Measure for Measure. The players are fantastic. They take part in all aspects of the show, from building the set, sewing the costumes, creating the advertising, selling tickets and merchandise, performing both in the pre show and the main production... Im sure theres plenty more that Ive forgotten.Worth the price (plus the 4-hour round trip drive for my family)!

2018-07-15I went to a showing of Romeo and Juliet, and before the show even started, I was amazed by how much there was to look at in the scenic grounds, then once the show started, it only added to the experience with the true professionalism of every actor. Even the younger actors seemed fully committed to the roles, and happy to be doing it! It was a fantastic experience for me, and I’ll certainly do it again.
