Call customer service, on hold for 15 minutes, customer service Rep finally picks up and confirms account info, address info, ssn info and how Im going to make a payment then transfers me to a automated system. To make a payment I talked to one person, one automated system for a total of 49 minutes. I wish I didnt have to deal with you company.
Waste your day with customer service. Customer service is solely lacking and appears to be a system delays hoping youll give up and never call back. Need help? Automated, unhelpful, answering service will bounce you around, wasting your time, for 15 minutes, before allowing you the option to talk to a representative.... sorry all representatives are busy, we can call you back between 90 minutes and 120 minutes. 2 hours and 10 minutes later you receive the call and told to wait.... before it hangs up on you. You call back, get the automated run around, told they will call you back in 20 to 40 minutes.... you think thats not too bad, compared with before..... but 60 minutes later they havent called back, so you call them again.... this time an actual representative answers the phone, but not the right one, because they put you on hold to wait. A few minutes later and youre given the option for a call back in 7 to 12 minutes... but this time you choose to wait. 45 minutes later someone finally answers. Over 4 hours wasted.
They billed me for over a year of the past tenants usage, from when they weren’t coming in to read meters due to covid. They couldn’t look and see I’ve only lived here 2 months before sending me a bill? What a surprise to get a 900$ bill. Even then, I can’t imagine what all of the other people in my apartment building have to deal with that have lived here this entire time. This company is terrible… and I’ve only heard bad things about them.
I have only negative reviews for this company. Not only will they not stop estimating my meter readings based off the previous tenants of my apartment, but they lie about coming to read my meter. I get notified that they read my meter via letter, but when I look at my bill, low and behold its still another estimate that is 200 more than I should be paying. Ive never seen a multi billion dollar company be so lazy.
You installed telephone/power pole less than 10 feet from an existing one in my yard. Second, you cut the wires from the existing pole and left them hanging which is an eyesore and you left the pole. If youre going to install a new one then take the old one out. And what difference does 10 feet really make????? It was fine how it was. And I received no notifications this was going to happen. I realize that I have no say in the matter but its common courtesy to notify that my driveway is going to be blocked all day. Terrible communication skills
I’ve never had any problems with the people at Ohio Edison. HOWEVER, my husband and I bought a house and moved to akron in Oct 2020. We have had an outage every single month since! Two outages in the past 2 weeks! I have a lizard that requires heat 24/7 365 days a year, so she always needs electricity! One of the times we lost power, it was out for 15 hours! This is getting ridiculous!Update: I wrote this review on Feb 1st around 5pm. it is now Feb 2nd 12:30a. Only seven hours later, and the transformer for our block just blew like a stick of dynamite. I couldn’t be any angrier.
I am basically required to go through hell to dispute a $900 electric bill for an 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT. The reps would not acknowledge that I had paid $50-$70 in the past and summed the convo up with “yep that’s what ya owe we can give you a credit-ruining payment plan if ya like”.For a big company, there’s a lot of fraud going on.
I recieved my Ohio Edison bill today. Imagine my surprise when I see that they have asked me for a $99 security deposit when I have NEVER had my electric turned off. So I called and thought surely it was a mistake but nope! They are saying by law they can charge you a security deposit... on top of the late fee that they already charge you if you are late on payments. I have only ever been a month behind... not months, my electric has never been turned off either! The customer service reps were not particularly kind either I found their tones to be rather snarky as well. They then told me I could get a guarantor if I wanted instead of paying the fee. Why would I do that when I pay my bills and have ALWAYS paid my bill!? Secondly how can you people get away with charging people extra on top of the late fee you already charge for being late! You all are crooks of the worst kind!
Somehow 3 months after my bankrupcy was discharged my payment went to the wrong account. My family came home from work and school at 4p.m. when we got home the electric had been turned off and a paper I found on the sidewalk in front of my house said it was disconnected due to non payment. I was furious because I had just payed 300 dollars a week prior. I called in and finally got a agent at 4:11p.m. after some time she told me the payment was applied to my old account that was already discharged. I told them they needed to turn my power back on that day. They told me because it was past 3:30p.m they could not do anything. I asked to talk to a supervisor and she transfered me. The supervisor told me the same thing. I informed him that I have a autistic child who is on disibility I also informed them I had a sick 8 year old child and 7 animals that were freezing and my house was 55 degrees. They still refused to turn it back on that night. I finally broke down and started crying and told them my mother had also passed away a week prior and I could not deal with this and he laughed at me. I hung up and called back and finally got another supervisor. I offered to pay a extra 100 dollars for them to turn it back on that day even tho they were not charging me a reconnect fee because it was a mistake they made. That supervisor told me it would not be turned back on that day if I payed a million dollars. By this time i had been on the phone with them for 2 hours and it was 6:30 so I had to take my kids to a relative to stay the night and i froze all night with my animals. I was told my power would be restored between 8a.m and 6p.m the next day. The next morning at 8a.m I called again and they still coould not tell me when my power would be restored. Alls they could say was it would be restored by 6 p.m that day. I told them I should be priority since it was a mistake on there end and my family already had to suffer. I also told them I would be contacting p.u.c.o and the lady asked me if i wanted her to give me the number. I then hung up and called p.u.c.o I explained the situation and they called ohio edison and they admitted to p.u.c.o that it was a mistake on there end. Finally at 10a.m my power was restored. This company treats people like dirt because we dont have many options for electric service other than them. They could care less about kids, anyone with a disibility, or animals. These are the most heartless people ive ever dealt with!
By far the worst utility company I have ever dealt with. Sometimes our bill has exceeded 800$ with only 2 people in the home. And when my grown children and my grandchildren were here for a couple of months the bill would be 200$. No way!!!!! But this being the only electric company in our area they can do whatever they want to. Very hard for a person on a tight fixed income. They are all about that almighty dollar. Sad very sad.
I need to express that I have lived in my house for 2.5 years and there has been 2 if not 3 or more power outages every year! Is this not a sign that Ohio Edison needs to investigate what is going on? I have almost missed work, lost food, lost business, and a gross amount of time at this point. To note that there has never been a statement or notification of any process or progress dealing with this problem.
Because I had no choice but to click on a star, I gave them a 1.. Hands down worst customer service, rude employees and the biggest monopoly ever. They will charge you a higher rate that all other providers, then the supplier they have makes double your actual bill. They pull you off budget, fail to send notifications and bills in a timely manner, and sent an old man in his personal vehicle and normal clothes to my house to “shut off” power!! Ohio Edison sucks, and I am changing providers for the above reasons! ✌️
Had someone tamper with my meter. And they still charged me with a Tampering fee of $272 when it was proved to be a technician or a electician error. Then they made my family wait close to 2weeks to restore service. And even charged us for the days without electric. And on top of that with proof that I have a daughter who needs constant electricty for oxygen, feeding tube, and pulsox. Again took over a week close to two business weeks to bring out a new meter and restore service. They even had their technician supervisor call amd promise to have power restored almost every day it was off.They are luck they have electric monopolised so there isnt any other providers. We tried to go solar wich we would have to pay them for the utility rights for the property wich isnt allowed in rental homes.
I received a phone call from this number, and my phone ID identified it as Illuminating Co. I was told that my power would be disconnected. I was told that I had a huge balance. It sounded very official, up to the point that they told me I had to take money to an undisclosed location. While on hold I contacted my provider and determined that my balance was paid up. I contacted the following: my utility provider, Facebook, and the Lake County Sheriffs Department.
Biggest pile of garbage company I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with. When you call them to “fix” your power going out they simply prop up the power line on something and leave it sit there for a year. My power has gone out 6 times this week alone. I work from home and am making conference calls over Skype. I’m constantly disconnected. They don’t fix anything. The power line that went down on my road three years ago still isn’t properly secured. They’re a joke.
They simply cut of off my power because my auto payment stopped working. 15 years of ontime payment meant nothing to them. No calls or notice in this. Only after they cut off my power I knew about the issue. We had spend a day without power at 90’c heat. The power of Social Media.Problem with AEP Energy taken care of over 24 hours ago via a post on FB.The problem with AEP Energy still IS an issue via their customer service people that answer their emails.In one place its taken care of, in the other...they still expect me to jump through hoops even though it was the their issue.So, what rating do you give a company with totally conflicting responses?Businesses....make sure you have someone wonderful working your social media platforms - they apparently have a little more customer service intelligence than their other reps.As for Ohio Edison / First Energy - Im currently on hold waiting for a supervisor (for 20 minutes now) and no one has bothered looking at the post I tagged them in earlier.And now that I just got a supervisor (probably a buddy that was sitting next to them in the cubicle) - Im suppose to still do work on my end to make sure my electric service does not stop. Ohio Edison has not one freaking clue as to what service is. Apparently its up to me to contact a county I dont even belong in to tell them I am, in fact, NOT a resident of their county.Anyone else see issues with this?Thinking at this point I should start my own township, which will be county-free. We will rule with great power and fear (the 5 of us) and make it a law to have anyone that crosses our boundaries be bearing a 6-pack of our favorite beer to cross to the next.The Milliman Bastard Township is born.
Terrible customer service. Some glitch in payments on the web and the bill got taken out twice. I stopped payment on the second one, but they refuse to take the Returned check fee off, even though it was an error on the web. I wish I had another electric company available by me. Id switch in a heartbeat.
Constantly high meter readings and makes us check our own meter to get accurate billing. They have lied that they have read the meter when our bill is marked actual. They even went as far as saying the can read the meter from the road, even when we live on a busy 3 lane road and our meter is behind a big bush.
Had billing questions and called them. Was on hold for 14 minutes got to speak with someone for 2 minutes only to be on hold again for 24 more minutes because they connected me to the wrong department! Their local offices no longer take walk ins to discuss or pay bills, so you have to call them. I would recommend not calling them, but then they would be able to charge you with whatever they want without you disagreeing with it or questioning it.
I just need to warn all you people that these creatures shut off your power at 11:30 on Friday, and give you until EXACYTLY 12:30 to pay in full or they will leave you without power for the WHOLE WEEKEND.I WAS FIVE MINUTES LATE WITH MY PAYMENT, AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE GIRL SAID Im sorry, but your payment was five minutes late, theres nothing I can doFIVE MINUTES!!!!!!!!!Yeah, shut off the power at 11:30, while Im at work, on a Friday.Very disgusting to come out so late on a Friday to shut people off.They should be doing their shutt-offs no later than Thursday if they were decent people.
You guys are absolutely terrible you stopped on my road blocked the whole road. Looked at a transformer for 25 minutes. Took off havent seen you since. On are second day with no power. Your saying are power will be on at 6 pm its 3 now and the pole needs replaced. You will probably change the time at 6pm.
I called at 530 to pay a payment when my service was shut off. My service was shut off because they told me i had a credit that i did not. They never sent me a disconnection notice or anything in the mail. When i asked the customer service woman the day of disconnection she said they sent it to my email. My account was suppose to be changed 3 months prior since i cannot recieve emails. I then called back a day later when i was paid after work at 530 as i stated above. I explained the situation and that my daughter is on a breathing machine a night and if they could call and see if an electrician would be able to make the route and turn it on since i was told they would and since my daughter needs that machine to live. They said no they are not willing to call anyone and i should contact her doctor to send over paperwork. Her doctor is a specialist in texas where we lived prior. Im not able to get ahold of him and already tried the day they disconnected it. When i told them this (tears streaming down my face) they told me it doesnt matter and i didnt make the cut off time and ill have to wait until monday...two days from now. I told them I understand I didnt make the cut off date but my daughters life is in jeopardy. he asked if I wanted the number to send over medical certificate and I told him Im not able to get ahold of the office in Texas at this time and it would be too late and he said I should go stay at the hospital. Very rude...and now my daughters life is on the line. of course as a parent I would take her to seek emergency help but the hospital is not going to take her unless shes having problems that minute so I would have to wait for my daughter to stop breathing before calling nine-one-one and as a mother that breaks my heart I already contacted the hospital and asked them and they said since they are not able to get any type of medical certificate from her physician and that they did not have her medical history and they do not know that she needs the machine so I would have to wait for her to go into a non-breathing attack before they could technically put her on the machine which could cause serious effects and who knows if 911 would make it in time. So heres to sleeping in the car in front of the hospital thanks to the inhumanity of ohio edison 😕 i spoke with Iris in customer care and a supervisor named mark. Update 7pm : And can i add on the way to the hospital just now i found out the ohio edison building with the technicians is 15minutes away. Update: when the manager offered to give me the medical certificate number i explained u was driving and didnt have anything to write with. He said i could call back for the number. Well im at the hospital now and tried and no reps are in...shocker! I was also told by someone at the hospital to check the laws on disconnection. In doing this in the waiting room i found out that under law 4901 section 2 it states they have to give the personal notice to the private consumer, an adult or leave it at the door. This company gave the notice to my neice who is a minor. Section 3 of law 4901 states they have to give a 3day window before disconnection after presenting the in person notice. This they did not do either. They did it that day with my minor neice. They are going against the ohio law...real nice. Update: at 9pm last night i called the emergency number to get the medical certificate line. The physician called it and they said since i paid the bill it will be turned on monday...theres no winning even with the medical certificate they said i need.
I have only good things to say about Ohio Edison. I would only like to inform you that it’s not necessary to call me because unfortunately my dog has passed away and I’m not getting another one. I am disabled and can’t take care of another dog anymore because I can’t even take care of myself.
Outages every few weeks in my area. Its ridiculous that they continually have excuses for the power outages, but if its always downed wires due to trees, you would think with the money they bring in, they would work on resolving the issues before the outages happen, but I guess their ceos etc.are too busy pocketing the money they make with their six and seven figure incomes, so the customers inconvenience doesnt matter. I wish there was another service to use, but they have a monopoly on the area. Totally sucks!!!!
Worst company ever - 20 minutes to get past to speak to a CS individual then you wait a year cause instead of checking your credit you have to have a year of payments before you can have a street light installed. I can pay a year of the street light up front! Makes no sense- this company sucks horribly.
The absolute worst customer service Ive ever experienced. I have been without electric and heat for 4 days, and theyre saying it wont be on for another 5. Theyve been paid every penny I owe them, then some, Ive done everything theyve asked me to do, and they STILL wont send a technician out to turn my electric on. I have 3 kids, 2 dogs and its been 37 degrees at night. Im running a generator for a light and tv for the kids, but its loud, its dangerous and its expensive with the gas. They told me to go to a shelter....which are all full. They know we cant use any other company but them, so they treat you like dirt and know we cant do anything about it. I wouldnt even give 1 star, but I had to mark something so I can tell everyone how horrible this company and their employees are.

This is the worst company Ever!!! They have terrible customer service,they refused to let me get my services on at a new address because the previous tenants had a high bill.I tried to ask them what does that have to do with me? I have a newborn to take care of then they had the nerve to ask me to pay the old customers bill!
This company is full thieves and extortionists no compassionate people work here called several different times begging and pleading for a extension fo2 days was told that they couldnt help me in my opinion we should all chop the connexions and go solar power or generator or even wind power
THEY screwed up my electric bill that I PAYED and shut my power off and when I called on Wednesday they said they wouldn’t turn it back on until the next week...... like you guys messed up why do I have to wait a week? So everything in my fridge and freezer was ruined and I didn’t have a place to stay for a week because THEY messed up and I guess it was too much work for them to help me out
Called because there was a 30$ charge on my account for “more usage than normal” when I haven’t been home for three weeks. Employee was rude and condescending calling me “ma’am” in a rude and repetitious way. Did not explain in anyway shape or form how to fix this issue, just continued to tell me that she knew what she was talking about.

If I had a choice I would go somewhere else. Their customer service is terrible, including rude service reps, and a horrific automated system that is the clunkiest I have ever seen. They have the monopoly and act like it. They have seriously got me contemplating turning Amish or something!
Really wish zero stars was a option. 2nd power outage in less then 30 days this time on saturday afternoon night of memorial day weekend. Only a 20 person outage no big deal to them 6 hours and counting still no power but boy oh boy if your late with there money. Wish there were sum actions we could take to effect sum real change
Reader chased my dogs with pepper spray. Was told I have to keep my dogs in all day when they are going to read the meter and if i dont like it I could get my electricity from somewhere else. Since then they changed the meter to read from the street but I still get the notices to keep in my dogs inside all day
They first off want you to attach your bank account to their billing so they can get their money, thats fine but if you dont have the money in your account you over draft regardless of telling them ahead of time, secondly if you decide to use a debit card online or over the phone you get hit with a processing fee, and thirdly with the absurd rates why is there a processing fee, i get it i live in akron and we have a densish population but i lived in downtown Cleveland and my rates where lower, we need to start a petition for lower rates this is highway robbery
Where do I start I was cut off and when I called they only wanted full amount wouldnt put me on a plan nothing just rude told me i would have to move to recieve any help prices still being charged when your services are off juat makes me want to invest in solar panels

2022-06-13They have a great Energy Saver Site that has information on saving energy and technologies you can use at home to also save. They have energy assistance programs as well. They helped me when I was struggling to pay my bill. Ohio Edison has been in business for many years, this company understands how essential having electric supply in your home is for you and your family, as well as value all of their customers. There may be a few(bad-apple)customer service reps in the bunch but at the end of the day their main goal is quality energy, quality service, and they want to make a difference by providing essential utilities to Ohioans in their homes.

2022-06-16They sure are quick to take your money. But when you lose power from a storm they sure like to drag their feet. We have been without power since Monday it is now Thursday. They were out yesterday had it fixed for 10 minutes then it failed again and they were nowhere to be found. Hands down worst electric company and incredibly disappointed in their lack of ability to get power restored in a timely manner. I will end up having to now trash most of what is in my fridge because of them which means extra cost of groceries atop an already disgusting price of electric add that to the current inflation of gas and other goods.

2022-06-28This company such incapable for unreasonable charges I have one house just brought it fist month no body living there they cost me over 580 dollars we don’t know what’s going on than we just hear from one agent told us this house has been over 3 years no body come to check the election because the old landlord turn off the election than I try to calling to customers service every time I had waiting for over hour to get one person hanging answer the phone than they will me hold for they had check than you had wait for half hour again after that Edison just cut you phone. Than every time repeat same way

2022-03-02I’ve never had my power go out as much as with this electric company. And it’s not even going out at times that make sense such as the severe winter storm we got, rain storms, windy days etc. It’s March 2, 2022 and this is the second beautiful day- no wind, no rain, no snow, that the power has gone out for no reason I can find. I called yesterday when it went out just to get attitude from the guy on the phone to tell me they are investigating the cause of the outage. I never received an answer on why it was out. And same thing this evening. It’s almost 7pm now. We have a 2 year old and a 2 WEEK OLD BABY. I have breast milk in the fridge, a pump that I need to be able to use with electricity etc. Thank God it’s not freezing outside because babies can’t regulate their body temp. I get that things happen but the least you can do is actually give me a reason that the service I pay for isn’t working. Because we pay for things that we can’t use with no electricity such as WiFi, streaming services etc. Get it together!

2022-02-23If I could give zero stars I would, my family and I just bought our home and moved in, I completed the online form through the ohio Edison website to transfer service into our name. I was given a confirmation number and assumed everything was final, I was never notified of anything else needed. Our power shut off at 6pm, when attempting to call, I was basically told that there was nothing that could be done since it was after 6pm and outside of business hours. It is mid February and 28 degrees outside, I have children and ohio Edison representatives were rude and acted as if they could care less. When cutting off the power at 6pm they basically gave no opportunity for us to even do anything to get our power on. Honestly I wish AEP covered our area at least they provide better services for individuals and there needs.

2022-03-30Terrible company. All electric home and cheating me big time. Also cheats you out of the monthly credit on the bill. The workers are nice the corporate structure is awful. No one should pay 600 a month and still be cold. Freezing seniors to death I am sure

2022-06-30You cannot get a real person on the phone and the automated system moves much to quickly when a senior citizen with arthritis in her hands fails to punch in the numbers quickly. I was hung up on twice without ever knowing if my transaction went through.

2022-07-15My electric was out for 3 hours. I am handicap my house is all electricI hate the computer Thank you for helping to get it back on. I really thank you. Be safe. Ok that did not last. I am almost in pich black. Why? It happens to much and when a neighbor drive up to ask if its out lordy. I know things happen and your tired from work but coming home to this is old and so is your machine.. But it was not your fault I know . I am thankful . But darn that tree. Also you missed the time. But its on yeah

2022-06-22My bill at my business never makes any sense and they overcharge me every month, a couple times they charged me someone elses bill
