Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles in other cities:
There is a reason, aside from the lines, that people dread visiting the BMV and its the robotic rude staff. I was there this AM and was this gals first customer and she was incredibly rude. Read absurdly fast and acted frustrated that I asked her to repeat herself. I understand the masks and counter shields are a barrier, but goodness have some patience and read slowly and concisely. I cant imagine how rude shed be come lunch time. And why do the ladies all act like you work at the BMV and know their policy/corona system? Simply guide your customers instead of barking orders when theyre not getting it right. I worked in customer service so maybe I have high standards, but I believe in general kindness and this particular girl lacked every bit of it. Sorry Courtney, hope you have a better day, but life is what you make it.
I was warned that this BMV had an extremely rude set of staff. They were most definitely rude.. From the moment I walked up, she had an attitude. Would not recommend this BMV. Especially if you’re seeing Courtney, who I dealt with at the BMV (who I’ve seen other comments in these reviews about).
This complaint is in regards to the Athens Ohio BMV testing center. My daughter tried obtain her drivers permit through this office. At first, I was going to file a formal complaint at the state level. However, since it was resolved, I choose to place a Google Review. I was unable to locate her Social Security card and quickly get a replacement due to the Coronavirus shut down. SS office said I would have to mail in my drivers license to request a SS card for her with a two week turn around. (I refuse to mail my license through USPS.) Her official transcript had an EMIS number, not a SS number. She had a formal document from school with offical stamp to fulfill the requirement. However, it was not a transcript. Athens BMV wouldnt take it. I tried twice. I explained that it was the same type of document presented 5 years ago when I son acquired a permit. I called the ladys supervisor who refused to allow me to speak to someone in Columbus (She didnt know her or how to contact her) I finally went to a different testing center. They called Columbus just be sure it met the requirements. My daughter was in and out within 30 minutes. I think the Athens office needs to learn what documents are acceptable.
Every single time that I go to this license bureau, which has been about four times as I have gotten my permit, my license, then got a motorcycle permit, and now trying to get my new license because I just turned 21. All of my experiences with this place have been absolutely terrible, the women that work there are so rude. Truly the most unpleasant experience and this time was the last straw I will absolutely never go back I am going to drive to Pomeroy to do it from now on.
I have never been to a better BMV and I have never had a bad experience here. I have had a couple of disappointing trips, but those were on me for not being prepared with the proper documentation. The staff are very efficient and familiar with all of the requirements for any BMV-related procedures- they are very helpful if you are unsure of what you need to bring in. It is very handy having the title office just a few yards away and the drivers testing suite next door. The lines are unbelievably short, and I have never waited more than 15 minutes, usually less than 5. On todays trip, I walked right up to the counter. I am originally from a state where folks expect to spend hours at the DMV, so these short waits are delightful. They have helped me with a variety of tasks- getting an Ohio license when I moved here, getting a new license when I changed my name, getting plates for my car, and renewing my registration.
Terrible people. Simply needed a form I had ready to send to any email printed so I could give them money for a license and was sent to a library or somewhere. People like these working for the state is the reason it is so easy to push the idea of a useless state. Its really just useless people representing it.
Unhelpful tellers and an overall mess of bureaucratic rigamaroll. I literally brought medical records, billing, leases, etc. and they would not accept my proof after telling me said documents were acceptable forms of ID. Honestly I dont need a lisence if this is what I have to go through every time

2022-06-01I just moved to Ohio so I needed to get an Ohio drivers license, an Ohio title and then an Ohio registration/plate. My past experiences in other states had taught me to expect a very unpleasant experience with a very long wait. The Athens BMV & Title Office pleasantly surprised me with no waiting at all and the friendliest and most efficient staff I have ever experienced at a BMV/DMV.

2022-04-09Constant SPAM (group) text messages after using phone # check in kiosk. Getting texts ALL hours, sometimes only hours apart - NOT from the Ohio BMV. Different numbers and different web page links each time!! Very upset that a government agency allows this to happen.

2020-09-08These workers have their job down nicely. Some might see it them as rude but I see them as efficient and they know they have to get people in and out quickly. With the COVID I figured I would be waiting awhile but oh no, they have a worker at the front table that greets you and make sure you have what you need for what you are asking to do, gives you a number and there you go, wait for your number. Waited 10 minutes and there were 12 other people waiting. Quick an easy for my visit today. Thank you BMV workers.

2021-04-19Mission statement from Ohio BMV website:Ohio Department of Public Safety employees shall demonstrate an understanding of the importance of exceptional customer service, and how it directly links to each employee’s job function and supports the mission of the department by:Consistently providing a high level of professional, courteous, friendly and respectful customer interaction to ensure an overall positive and service oriented experience.Government employees or not, that was some lousy customer service, at around 9:30 this morning, my number: D508. The employee in charge of kiosk 4 chose not to acknowledge my presence, and once I realized what was happening with attitudes, I requested that my license be returned, walked out that door, and will take my issue to an office with government employees that give a hoot, and I will find one.I certainly do not require you nor your version of professional ... and respectful customer service. What a joke.

2021-12-02The attendant did a great job of answering my questions and prompt service. I got there early 8 am so you may want to think about that.
