I love this greenhouse! The plants are beautiful and employees are so nice and helpful. The young lady I spoke with was a big help and had plenty of information for me about the houseplants I bought. Really pretty, quaint home decor as well. Very reasonable prices. I will be back again!
We were trying to match up a bush from our landscaping that had died and we were not sure of the exact type and there are several varieties that are similar. One of the guys working out back helped us out by showing us where the Bush type we wanted were located and tried to help us with which variety we needed from a picture my wife had on her phone. If what we got isnt right were darn close; all because of the help we got.
We have been customers of Oakland nursery for a while now. We have been very good customers for the past 2 seasons spending around $2000.00 on various plants and bushes. Very friendly, eager to assist with questions and very thorough when checking out and explaining their plant warranty/guarantee to you with a smile while stapling your receipt to the green warranty paper. This year we purchased 53 boxwood and about a month later, we bought 2 mr. bowling ball bushes amongst various other plants… out of the 53 boxwood, 3 died, 1 on its last legs. 1 of the 2 bowling ball bushes that are planted within 8 feet of each other, turned brown and crispy literally overnight. We decided to uproot the plants and get it taken care of under the warranty that they do proudly tout upon checkout. We were pointed to the customer service desk where a lady requested assistance over the radio to get our bushes looked at. A man with a very angry look on his face appeared, did not introduce himself, asked us if we watered the bushes, accused us of not planting the bushes, lectured us further on watering, specifically remarking “there is no substitute for water”. My wife and I felt like we were criminals. I told him that we were not trying to get something for nothing and further TRIED to explain that out of 53 boxwood, 4 of them died but the rest are thriving, also TRIED to explain that mr bowling balls neighbor is fine as well, he did not want to hear it, just wanted to give us his angry attitude and nasty remarks. He snapped at the woman at the desk an order and stormed away with no further word to us. My wife asked the woman at the desk if he is always this rude and she went on to defend his actions and also did not want to listen and understand that 49 of our boxwood are in good health. My wife mentioned how much we have spent there just to illustrate that out of all that we have bought, 5 plants did not survive and was told that it doesn’t matter how much you have spent, again, not the point. To wrap it up, we still love the selection and prices at Oakland in New Albany, however, due to the treatment and rudeness of the man, assuming manager or owner, again, he did not even bother to introduce himself, we will think long and hard before shopping with this company again.
My husband and I went to buy a large River Birch. All the ones in the lot were spoken for and a very helpful employee (who was also a delivery driver) suggested that we go speak to the manager to see if the other location might have some or if they can order one. Instead of just pointing us in the right direction he walked us over. We got to the manager and the employee explained the situation. The manager curtly said “that’s all we have back there” and offered no further options. The employee said “I thought Columbus might have one.” The manager said “yeah they might.” To us he said (again abruptly) “you can call them”. I asked if it was possible to order and he just said “no. I won’t have more until September.” His whole demeanor was dismissive and unhelpful and he spoke only the bare minimum without a trace of the most basic politeness. As we walked away, the kind employee offered that the ladies inside would make the call for us. It was clear the response to us by his manager was lackluster. We decided instead to leave and buy one elsewhere. Look, it’s not the worst thing to happen, and they will be fine without my $500 for the tree, but it’s really disappointing when people can’t provide the most basic of customer service and when they let their own employees down by not supporting them with their customers.
Delivered WRONG tree. Carefully selected perfect tree. Watched employee tie a ribbon on it with our name and took photo. Paid $50 for delivery. Different tree was delivered. Management cannot explain how it happened and our perfect tree is gone. No discount or refund offered.
I went in to ask some questions about splitting off myBromeliad pup and size pot for repotting. The person said I needed to wait until the next day or two and talk to Jamie and that others in the store couldn’t help with this. I have heard great things about her from my mom and a few friends so that sounded like a good plan. Unfortunately she doesn’t seem to follow her schedule so three times I checked to see if she was working before making the drive, only to be told by her coworkers she’s on the schedule to be there but hadn’t shown up yet. Finally got in touch w/ her and she was so rude! Like outright nasty on the phone.Told me she wouldn’t have time to repot for me (which I had said wasn’t even what I was looking for). Told me she had “vendors and important people” to help so she wasn’t sure she’d have time if I came to the store. I asked if I needed an appointment and she said “no you can come in, but I may be too busy to help you”. What terrible customer service. How can you have one person in a whole shop who can help a customer and then that person doesn’t keep a schedule, doesn’t take appointments, doesn’t want walk ins and doesn’t want to help over the phone? I will be finding a new local company to support.
Have been shopping for seasonal plants at the New Albany location for years, and the selection/service have always been superb. Until recently. Apparently, store manager feels that he can rather rudely impose his own return policies. we had some tropical plants that we purchased and and up not using in our project that we brought back. The typical return window is 30 days. in a very rude manner Jim said that its 2 weeks and he is not taking them back. $50 is not that big of a deal, but the manner of his response prompted my wife to call the other Oakland Nursery location, and their manager said that the return window is indeed 30 days and if we bring the plants to his store will issue a refund.Granted few grand of lost business will not hurt their bottom-line, i just find find it disheartening that a single employee can tarnish an otherwise great company reputation.
Not very clear on many areas having a discount price or how to fulfill bulk orders of these discount items. I went to purchase mulch, 15 bags. I was told I would get assistance with loading, but didnt get assistance until I had already loaded 10 bags.Nice facility, but needs more signage at every entrance for a customer to manuever on where they need to go.
The plants are lovely and their mums lasted far longer than any mum should, one is still alive. The pincushion and lavender I bought are still trying to grow in the winter, stubbornly remaining green. They truly have high quality, lovely plants. The reason for my 3 stars is this: there is a lady who works there and every time my family or I ask a question (which is infrequently), she gets an arrogant, snappy attitude in regards to the answer. It is very off-putting and I will definitely avoid her in the future.
We bought a flowering tree and I planted it myself. Within 2 months the tree was dead. We had them replace the tree as it was under warranty. They replaced it with a smaller tree. We also purchased 7 or 8 azaleas that were beautiful. Half of the shrubs died. We watered regularly, tested the soil for acidity, but again half of them died within 2 months of planting. Ive been renovating houses for a long time, and Ive never had such bad luck with either my selections or planting skills. Im inclined to believe they are buying plants with smaller root balls than are necessary. We wont be returning.Update: we bought a nice river birch and it had a huge root ball. This is maybe one of the only places to go in Columbus. I’ll let them earn back my trust with discounts. We got a great deal on the tree.
I bought a magnificent wind chime ...everyone walking their dogs in the neighborhood comments on it. Great selection of statues ...bought a fish to put in my bird bath...the bird bath is a shell so the statue is perfect. Wonderful selection of flowers , trees, herbs and vegetables. Loads of gift choices as well. Highly recommend this location.
This is the unfriendly oakland. Dont show up in work clothes and hope to be treated politely. Fortunately this is the only location that wants to look down it long nose at my blue collar. But they do have a decent houseplant selection... if you dont mind paying 20% more for the same one they would have in Columbus or Dublin.
Only reason Im not giving 5stars is because I walked around the bushes and shrubs for about an hour and a half, saw several employees and none of them asked me if I needed help or even said hi. I ended up not buying any bushes or shrubs because of that, I only bought an annual for $2.99. I guess they dont need to make money. They would have made $80-100 from my purchase if they had just acknowledged me.
Employees are very knowledgeable about all their plants. We went looking for some trees and bushes. Ivan an employee helped a lot! We spent about an hour looking at some trees and he was showing us all their different ones. He was with us all the time we spent there helping us out. Definitely I will be going back!
I went to a few christmas tree places and Oakland is a little on the pricey side but not by much. I absolutely loved how they had about 5-6 high school kids that would put your Christmas tree on top of your car for you and I didnt have to bring me own bungee cords or string or anything. Im a 5ft5 girl by myself I was really stressed about how I would get a tree on my escape by myself.
Shame Shame Shame on them . I have called them multiple times and wanted to talk to a manager but neither the manager calls back nor does he attends the phone call . I have been on hold for almost half an hour where the person picks and then tells me that she is connecting me to the manager but every time put me on hold. Shame on them for their poor customer service.
I have been extremely happy with Oakland Nursery in New Albany and I feel like I have been living there practically every weekend to get my landscaping looking how I want it! When I was in there last weekend, I showed a valpak coupon for $20 off $200 and the woman didnt give me any issues with it being on my phone since it has a coupon code on it anyways. Today when I was in there and spent another $200, a different girl gave me an issue because I didnt print off the coupon. That is the reason for only 4/5 stars! I dont suggest picking on your customers for how they present a coupon when they are in there dropping hundreds of dollars each weekend! Just food for thought :-) otherwise my experience is great each time I come in!
The Nursery staff was fantastic, professional and kind. I also visited their Oakland Inside and Out Garden & Gifts Shop. Their staff was arrogant, standoffish and very unwelcoming. I will visit the Nursery again. I will NEVER visit the Oakland Inside and Out Garden & Gifts Shop again. Both stores have lovely items. I really like some of the items in the Oakland Inside and Out Garden & Gifts Shop; but that staff was so curt and impolite, that I dont want to give them my hard-earned money.
Good selection but pretty overpriced. I was here for around 40 minutes and all 6 or 7 employees I encountered (inside and out) ignored me....as in they saw me and made eye contact but did not speak. I asked a few some questions and they did oblige but did not seem interested in helping beyond that. I went to Straders instead.
Employees are reluctant to help while they were just chatting among themselves like I was disturbing them walking slowly while still trying to have their conversation. When asked about a tree disease, they told me to contact an arborist rather than trying to help. Our family prefers the one on Oakland Park Ave. location much much better than this one even though we just live down the street from this New Albany location. The staff at Oakland Park Ave. location will help you with all sorts of plant and tree problems as their staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
I purchased a knockout rose grafted onto a tree standard in July of 2015. It thrived through the summer and fall going dormant during the winter months. The original price was $80.00 but I got it on sale for $40.00. In the spring of 2016 my little tree had no signs of life. I nurtured it until I definitely realized that it was dead. I took it back to the New Albany store on May 29th expecting a refund or replacement because of their one year warranty on trees. A manager was called over and said that they considered my tree a rose bush which only qualified it for a six month warranty. I explained that it was grafted on a tree standard which made it a tree in my eyes. Would anyone have paid $80.00 for a rose bush? That is the price of a tree! Needless to say, I walked out of the nursery extremely disappointed in her unyielding position to the problem. She was adamant about her position and was unable to even meet me half way. This is not a way to keep loyal customers. I will never shop there again.Sincerely,Christine adamkosky
One of their delivery drivers almost hit my car on 270. They were trying to force me off of the highway! They do not care about the safety of other drivers on the road. I tried to call to complain, but I could not locate a corporate office phone number online. As I do not know which location their van came from, I will be posting this review for all their locations in Columbus.
I’ve lived in the new albany area for 15 years. I’ve given this Oakland nursery plenty of chances to redeem themselves. They are never helpful to me and my family. I feel the staff are racist. I have plenty of money to spend. I will no longer waste my time with these racist folks.

2022-05-08One of the most beautiful nurseries I have been to. Staff was nice, I did not seek out help because I wanted to experience the nursery on my own. (My first time here.) I thoroughly enjoyed the set up and how everything was arranged and all the options available.

2022-05-25This is a great nursery. Their inventory is large. Although they dont carry many unique plants, their selection of the more popular plants for Zone 6 is great. They also have a fun area of indoor and tropical plants.

2022-04-10I went to get some house plants. There were 2 young people working. The young man D was very helpful in helping me choose the plants and the young woman ran the register well so they made a good team! They also had a pretty cat following me around. I got some nice plants!

2022-06-16Oakland Nurseries New Albany planted 5 bushes for us. I went out to greet the workers and they barely spoke to me (efficient and all business...fine, no problem). They were hired to plant 4 of the bushes in a row, but one is significantly misaligned, so the row is not straight. They left a substantial amount of mulch and dirt in our grass and on our patio and driveway that I had to clean up. Perhaps I could recommend if they took a bit more care with their work.

2022-05-14Terrible customer service! They wouldnt honor their coupons then when 3 of my plants died within 3 days they refused to return or exchange them. I spent $300 on annuals and was told they offer no warranty! The gentleman told me to take them home and water them. Oakland Nursery could take lessons in customer service.

2022-05-16In October 2021, my husband purchased a gift card for over $500 and was told to sign-up for their Loyalty Program to receive a rewards certificate in the spring. No certificate ever arrived, so I visited this location on 5/13/22 for assistance. A manager first told me that we never received the rewards certificate because they didnt have our address on file (they didnt ask for it when my husband signed-up for the program). Upon asking if I could just receive the certificate there, she said no, that it would have to be processed through their corporate office, which she attempted to call. Then, she said that we wouldnt receive a rewards certificate until the gift card was used, but that there would be no way to tie it to our account because we gave the gift card to someone else and they wouldnt have our Loyalty # when making their purchase with the gift card. This made utterly no sense on multiple levels - Oakland received their money when my husband purchased the gift card; it has nothing to do with when the recipient uses it. Now, I read on their website that Gift Cards are not considered Qualified Purchases to count as points towards their Loyalty Program. Really disappointed in the wrong information relayed by multiple employees and runaround experienced!

2022-05-02I want to share a better review as the facility is lovely, as is the shop, employees (and the cats)! However, as someone who has spent well over $1000 here in the last year, I am disappointed. Half of the plants I’ve brought into my home have been infested with some sort of pest. When it’s a $30 pothos with fungus gnats, that’s one thing. But countless plants have come home with spider mites or the dreaded mealie bug. I purchased a $150-200 Marginata stump that had a SERIOUS infestation of mealie bugs. I called within 30 days of purchase, was told they would GIVE me an insecticide to combat the issue, showed up and was *sold* insecticide. Since, I’ve thrown out 3 pothos that were infested with mealies, 2 ivy infested with spider mites, and several other purchases that were infested beyond saving. If I were to buy from home depot, I might expect this… but when I’m spending as much as I do at a nursery, I don’t expect to bring disease and pests into my home. I’m lucky these plants have not infested the rest of my plants, as I would be devastated if my collection were to be compromised due to a plant purchased from this location.

2022-05-10This is my local Oakland but I’ve been to all of them around the Central Ohio area. This one is particularly well kept, organized and easy to shop! Staff is friendly and I never leave without a plant (or 5)

2019-05-03Went here for the first time to purchase a tree. Had a few in mind before we went. Cody was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Helped us find a tree that fits our needs and it is absolutely beautiful. Kids got a big kick out of some of the carvings they had.
