Oak and Embers Tavern in other cities:
First time, sat on enclosed patio, great cocktails, food even better, we had 1/2 slab of ribs and the beef brisket, along with the multiple sides and cornbread, best barbeque we ever had. A gem in a strip mall on Mayfield Road in Chesterland. We will become regulars..
Great service from our waitress Lisa. The food came out hot and was the best barbeque Ive had in years.A lot of places drown their pulled pork in bbq sauce to hide subpar smoking/cooking methods, but you will not see that here. The pulled pork had a really nice crust on the larger pieces, you can see a visible smoke ring, and was still moist and flavorful.I will be returning to this location again soon, it was all around a great experience with great food.
Probably a 4.5 stars ... staff was great, the special was a beef tip filet which was done perfectly. The taters and sides very good and the drinks are always good. A favorite location for a good drink and good meal. I dont often rave about cornbread ... but theirs is awesome.
Just went to Oak n Embers tonight ,everything went up ,the chicken and rib combo was like 22$ now 26$ ,my salad went up ,and to my surprise ,there is a 7% inflation surcharge added to the bill, thats ridiculous ,with every single person paying an extra 7% plus all the prices went up .....i mean really?? Do 2% inflation ...but 7%, my bill was almost 70$ for 2meals and 1 tea. With 3people..eating.Im sorry but im disturbed.
Four stars for the service, value and the excellent food. The lack of attention to detail for the facilities shows in some areas that are broken and worn and seem to lack care. There are numerous small examples. Rust in the bathroom stalls, excessive dust on exhaust fan, dimmed and flickering bulbs, missing tile on base board area, paint worn along walls by customers, and dust all over the ceiling in the dining area. These show lack of care. Our own booth we sat in had a seat cushion completely broken and needed a large coat on the seat to even make it usable. It’s sad to see these details let go in a place that has a nice menu and caring wait staff. This type of disregard is the beginning of the end for restaurants and I’m hoping these guys are able to turn it around and bring some clean and fresh intentions to the facilities. The meatloaf was excellent and all the food I tasted was good with the exception of the sweet potato fries being only slightly warm, seeming like they were waiting around in the kitchen under a lamp for too long.
A great patio is just the beginning at their Chesterland location on Mayfield Road. Our evening included the brisket nachos appetizer and a two-meat combo (pulled pork and half-rack) meal to share. Almost every dish is served with a (large) piece of delicious cornbread with a sweetly-topped glaze. The brisket nachos (shown) arrive on a large platter and were plenty for the four members of our group to share. The brisket nachos app is topped with a very generous amount of brisket and queso blanco with sour cream on the side. The pulled pork and half-rack combo tasted excellent. I felt it was a bone short of a half-rack (IMO). Both meats were smoked to a perfect tender and juicy finish. The pulled pork arrived with fresh BBQ sauce applied. My own preference for smoked meats is to have the sauce on the side so I get a chance to try the meat as cooked. The sweet potato fries and thick cut onion rings complemented the meats very well. Both side dishes were plentiful and tasty. We will definitely come back to try more of their menu. Next time, we will plan a longer visit to try some of their Bourbon and may be a dessert.
Im going to go with 2 stars here. The food was very good, decent sized portions, not very expensive, and came out pretty quick and hot. The ambiance is what you would expect from a BBQ place merged with a sports bar. I was concerned however because none of the wait staff were masked, not one of them. That is very concerning. I was also noticing even the clientele walking in came in without masks and there were no signs on the doors instructing anyone to wear a mask, vaccinated or not. A general disregard for health and safety rules for patrons and staff most likely extends to a general lack of health and safety in the kitchen as well. I was very cautious and inspected cutlery and my glass to make sure they looked clean. I felt uncomfortable while dining due to the utter lack of health and safety guidelines in place. The food was good, but I doubt I ever return, not worth the health risk. Would not recommend to a friend.
This was the first time we had been year and we loved it. Our food came out quickly and was so good. My boyfriend had a burger and I have a dish that had cheesy smashed potatoes, pulled pork and a barbecue sauce. We also ordered the Apple slaw because we wanted to try it. Everything was great. We ordered dessert because they sounded good. The Apple cake was fabulous and it had ice cream with Apple topping on it!!We will be back soon!!
Cannot say enough about Oak and Embers! We started with delicious bourbon cocktails and their smoked wings. Entree was their pulled pork plate that came with two sides (our choices were their famous apple slaw and fried brussels sprouts) and their cornbread. Every single thing we tasted was better than the bite before. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu!!!!
There is no other restaurant in America that offers ribs and briskett smoked for 24hrs, yet not overcooked, and seasoned and rubbed or sauced as well. The best I have ever sampled and I have sampled a few.The bourbon selection alone makes Oak and Embers a must see and when your appetite kicks in, you will be a repeat. Im sure of it.
The cheddar mashed potatoes are way better than I expected, and I had high expectations. I had the chorizo meatloaf. Id never had that before and I love chorizo. It wasnt as hot as I expected, but it definitely had a good flavor. My wife had the half rack of ribs. The first thing we noticed us that theyre meaty ribs. She only ate 3. The meat was full of flavor and had a great bark. The bones fell right out. I think Ill get the ribs next time. The atmosphere is great, the food is great, the bourbon selection I extensive. Do yourself a favor and try this place out.
This place is the definition of a local gem! In the sleepy township of Chester, tucked away in a strip mall, you will find some of the best food in N.E. Ohio. For a perfect night go on a less crowded week night. (Wait times can be long on the weekend) Order the half rack of ribs with a cheesy sucatash and beans. Trust me this meal is always a smoky delicious hit and for only 15$ a phenomenal value. After 2 years of coming to eat and drink it has never missed. Also has a respectable selection of draft beer and bottles.
The entire experience was fantastic! The burnt ends appetizer with fried plantain chips was out of this world! The burnt ends were tender, smoked, and carmelized to perfection! The full meal was wonderful as well! I highly reccomend the ribs, mac and cheese, and thick cut onion rings! Was very impressed and happy with Oak and Embers!
Was in town on business and found this place on yelp Im glad I did. Three God is really good here. I ordered, Mac and cheese, cheesy succatash, dont judge I love cheese, stringbeans, bourbon glazed salmon, and this tasty corn bread comes with it. This was a very yummy meal. I definitely would go back when in in town.
I heard about Oak and Embers but the Pinecrest location was recommended. We opted for Chesterland because we were in the area at the apple farm. The server, I think her name was Amy was so amazing!!! Girlfriend was on top of it. I loved how we had our own little section well spaced out from other patrons. Dirty grits, green beans and brisket, 10 out of 10 highly recommend.
Our friends took us here for dinner the other day. Place was pretty busy but they managed to seat 6 of us. I opted for the full rack which was probably a mistake as thats easy more than I can actually eat, but hey, left overs am I right?Food came daily quick and was ice and hot which is how it should be. Everything was good but the onion rings were a bit lacking. My wife got the meatloaf and holy cow (pun intended) are the portion sizes enormous. Little pricey but worth it for a night out or special occasion kind of thing.
Good food at a reasonable price. Their burnt ends are amazing but we were VERY disappointed with the plaintain chips that came with it as a side dish. They were terrible...dry, hard, and flavorless. I couldnt even eat them!! The people I was with all agreed that they were horrible and not consistent with the quality of the other food served. The worst part was that when I shared my feedback with the manager, even though I told him we were regular customers, his response was that other people love them. It was a notably arrogant response. He refused to allow a substitution of another side dish without paying considerably more.I would suggest that they make this a main course and allow for a choice of two side dishes like all the main course meals (of course raising the price a bit as needed). Im sure this would be a favorite dish that could also allow for enjoying the juicy burnt ends and other tasty sides they have instead of leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. A quality restaurant should not serve something like this!! (And I am NOT a terribly picky person!!)Bottom line.... food was generally quite good, but customer service (and appreciation of regular customers) was VERY bad. This results is a less than positive experience!!
We celebrated Fathers a week later.Restaurant was too crowed. My son wanted Baby Backs. So we celebrated today. We sat on patio. The service was good. Food was good. The music was B hits from 2012. I asked 6 times to lower the volume. I was ignored!!!! The waitress said she asked the bartender. Maybe if I was at a disco and even then.I could not converse or enjoy my meal.
This establishment and the owners are great. Especially during a pandemic, restaurants margins are even smaller with less return. They do their best to accommodate both the guests and their employees. It’s unfortunate there is so much entitlement in this world, especially at a time like this. The food is phenomenal and prepared to where they care. It isn’t microwaved, but made from scratch. The meats are carefully smoked to temp, and brined excellently. The staff works very hard to ensure everyone feels welcome and enjoys their food and drinks. I recommend giving any if not all three of the locations a shot. Sanitary measures are taken, gloves and tongs are used. You won’t be disappointed.
Service was great but the rest was Terrible! Nothing had any taste. I was sick to my stomach by the time I got home. Burnt ends were blobs of fat in sauce, potatoes were cold and lacked flavor, and the $32 beef rib could have been a 10,000 million year old dinosaur for the lack of any flavor it had. We won’t be back.
After ordering, we waited 50 minutes at the bar and no food (appetizers) The bartender didnt even come around to tell us why we had to wait so long for appetizers. I know things get busy but people who sat down 15 minutes after us got served meals, not appetizers. After ten more minutes we left. They are also focused on filling orders for takeout orders instead. Forget dining in. You will be waiting a long time. The manager didnt seem too concerned. Just gave a load of excuses. Didnt even apologize. We said we werent coming back, and it didnt phase him a bit. Poor business skills. They advertize they are understaffed, but please understand that as their three hostesses(!) still continue to seat everyone who walks in, thus exacerbating the situation. This is a place that doesnt know how to do business.Just read the owners reply to a customer from 8 months ago. Wow! Never in my life have I read such a blatant, arrogant, haughty, condescending, and UNAPPRECIATIVE diatribe against ones customers. Be careful. The owner has a history of calling the cops on their customers (see posts below).
Based on one dinner. Two meat combo; brisket and ribs. Sides were Mac and cheese and green beans. Meats were well prepared, pretty lean, and tender. Rib flavor was pretty good but the sauce on the brisket was overly flavored with grape jelly. Mac stayed very cheesy and didnt dry out. Green beans were fully cooked but not falling apart as i usually get at a bbq. Good taste with some finely chopped tomato in it. Overall I was very satisfied with the portions. And while very good I like my BBQ to taste a little more like it was made on somebodys back porch.
So so so good! Super friendly server. Great atmosphere. Food was divine. We tried the pulled pork nachos app, the chorizo meatloaf, the mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and bbq bowl. Everything was heavenly. Super great prices too, and huge portions. Will be back for sure.
Service was attentive, Megan did a nice job. Knew the menu well and showed us how to find what we couldnt. Food was excellent. Try the burnt ends and the meatloaf. Ill never make my mine without Chorizo and BBQ sauce again. I found a nice Pinot for $6.00 I will be back.
My coworkers and I stop at Oak and embers at least one or two times a week on the way home from work. Reasonably priced cocktails and beer. Service is usually very quick, not too busy during the week. Walk in sit down grab a seat regularly. We see a lot of regular folks all of the time. The service staff is friendly, they will usually make a good recommendation for drinks
Thank you Oak and Embers for always doing myself and my family a huge favor by always making the best food!! We have been ordering out and dining in for a very long time. Tonight we had a small pickup mishap and just like the great food, the resolution was just as great. Keep up the great work and see you soon!
Way overpriced for what it is and the terrible service. It is good bbq. The owners vote socialist and are destroying the country so we wont go anymore. Their short staffing is directly their fault... people making more to sit at home on huge unemployment and not even paying rent. They dont belong in Chesterland.
The Oak is our families favorite. I always get the chicken and waffle with sweet potatoe fries and the house pinot grigio. Husband gets the special and my teen is a big fan of the chorizo meatloaf meal. Great food, consistent, great value we love Oak and Embers we go about once a month.
Staff seems to care little about the customers. Arrived at 810pm served at 905pm. Waiter possibly spent a total of 2 minutes total with us. This included taking our order. Seems as though the new motive is see how long you wait and how many drinks can we serve you before we finally bring out your dinner. Btw it was a burger and pulled pork nachos. Getting to the point we will no longer go back to this local restaurant. There is better service and better food just outside Chesterland.
Great experience! My food took over an hour! It was awesome but not worth the wait! When asked what’s taking so long the manager said they were short staffed. Could be an awesome place to eat if they had employees that didn’t care about their phones as much as the food! Might try again
The food here is INCREDIBLE! Sherry is the best, most attentive and helpful bartender, and really takes the time to help. We ordered the nachos with brisket, and the “bowls” and everything tasted incredible. It’s about an hour drive for us, but we already can’t wait to come back!
This was our first time dining at O&E Tavern. Very nice, relaxed casual atmosphere. The service was great and the food was outstanding. I had the grilled Pork chop with regular French fries. This was literally the best Pork chop I have ever had, anywhere. The FFs were excellent as well. Im a heavy salt user, but the food was so well seasoned that I added none, a rarity for me. There were 6 total in our party and everyone raved about their respective meals. And for the true value seekers, this is a great value considering the portions, price and quality. Definitely filling. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was good but overpriced. Service was just about as slow as a sloth in molasses. Our appetizer didnt come out for 30 minutes. Our drinks took 10. The food was delivered after an hour. The server was at least friendly but didnt mention specials. When we asked, she said they had run out. Still not a reason to not mention them. On a Sunday night, its the only game in town, which may explain the crowd. Any other night, Im going somewhere else.
The food was really good, but they had a new bartender who didnt really know what they were doing. Hang in there, new bartender. If I was the manager there, I wouldnt leave someone so inexperienced behind the bar by themselves. Overall, still a good experience. They have good quality draft beers (founders breakfast stout yummy) and lots of tasty menu items. Pulled pork and cheese curds were both awesome. Id definitely go back.
I have alot of family that really enjoy this place. Me personally came here 1 time and got ribs. They were very tough and did not fall off the bone at all. Even my friend whom I was having dinner with questioned me about them as she saw me struggling to tear them apart with a fork. Maybe its just me but I will not be returning.
The food is pretty good on a good day. Service is friendly when you go in however every time I order curbside (5 times now) they are not friendly , really short and unpleasant looking I get the impression I’m an inconvenience or at least that’s how they have made me feel every time.
I arrived with two other people and it was literally 7 minutes before closing time. We were really hungry and it looked so inviting. Not only is the decor very barbecuey (kinda country, kinda rustic, kinda city restaurant 🤷♀️), but it smells so good! We had to take advantage of the opportunity. The service was really great, even despite being so late and that everyone was cleaning up for the night. The food didnt feel like it was rushed, it was not cold and even looked really enticing. We ordered and were served, ate and had paid all in less than an hour. Our waitress and hostess were very accommodating. Our total dinner was less than $50 and the portions were huge! Win win.Id highly recommend coming here to eat, and have drinks! What a great little spot in the heart of northeast Ohio. NOM NOM!
The only reason I have a 4 star and not a 5 is they were out of a lot of BBQ staples, including ribs and brisket. I am giving them the benefit of doubt because they are just reopening after the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was fathers day. (Although we didnt arrive late or towards closing time.)The service was great, although I personally would have liked to know what wasnt available before I looked over the menu. The BBQ we ordered was very good.I will go back and see if the regular staples of a BBQ joint are available, if not, I may have to rethink my rating.
Just, ok at best.. baked beans have crunchy apples in them not a fan. Chick fillet has way better mac and cheese. I had the TRI tip, it was cut with the grain, not against the grain, not very flavorful. Pulled pork nachos, the chips were either not cooked enough or just old and stale. The bill was $61.78 for 2 people I drink each. Really not worth it at all.
Very good food with a fantastic staff. No concerns with anything that any of us ordered.Smoked wings are amazing. The pulled pork nachos are fantastic. The brisket is great as is the sausage. Be sure to try the mac n cheese as a side dish...best around. The staff here is efficient and actually cares. Im fairly confident that there is a strong management team who leads by example.
O&E is certainly a nice calm atmosphere to find a cocktail and some great food. Food prices are very reasonable for what you receive which are pretty good portion sizes. The drink selection is the best in town, especially if your a whiskey/bourbon enthusiast like myself. The only thing holding me back from a 5th star here is a staff variable i.e. some of the bartenders/waiters are more attentive than others.
My wife and I were really looking forward to dinner here after hearing good things. Got reservations for 5:30, didn’t get our food until almost 7pm. Tried the brisket, which is usually the best indicator of a quality smokehouse, and was very disappointed to find it dry and only shallowly smoked, maybe a quarter inch deep tops. Like it was smoked hot, dry and fast, which just doesn’t work. Mushroom bourbon sauce was very bland, as were the grits and Mac and cheese. My wife’s half chicken was ok. We only saw our waitress when we ordered, when we got our food, and when I hailed her down for the check and some barbecue sauce to help rescue my flavorless brisket. I never got the sauce. They seemed to be pretty well staffed, the kitchen was just slow. Prices weren’t too bad and I thought the venue was cool. We may try it another try again in a few years.Chesterland location. Maybe an off night?
Had been one of my favorite places but service keeps going down hill. Been rotating Togo orders and leaving nice tips to keep them open and I have been repaid with late orders poor to no service. This time I ordered 1.5 hours ahead of time and still food was not ready after 20 minutes. Said Mgr would come out but didn’t. Then they said it would be another 30 minutes. So canceled. Can’t trust them.
The food was fantastic. I had the brisket melt. It was large enough to feed 4 people. Our server James was very efficient and friendly. The others in my group enjoyed their dinner s well. It was very crowded so I am glad we had a reservation. Tables we close so I wish we had a booth. It was still very good. If you like bbq , I recommend Oak and Embers. Its in Chesterland but worth the drive.
We stopped in here on a whim and were very happy we did. The beef brisket was nice and tender. The ribs had good flavor without being smothered in barbecue sauce. Unlike some barbecue places where the sides seam like an afterthought these were flavorful. The waitstaff was all friendly and attentive as well making it for a nice evening out even with two hungry kids.Being as it was Saint Patricks day I was very happy the music selection was all celtic inspired if not actually Irish.
First time here, was do to sad circumstances (post-funeral food) however the food was absolutely amazing! Food was served banquet style for our event yet you would never have known had to not served yourself! All the food was fantastically fresh! Fantastic bbq/smoked flavor and literally the best mashed potatoes of any restaurant I have been to in YEARS!! Will definitely be coming back so I can experience their full menu!
Stopped in this evening at 9pm (3/19/2021) for a few beers with my business associate. The bartender (the only one one staff) was very impersonal and just generally did a poor performance of checking on us, as well as coming off a bit entitled. This was a bad first impression for a soft business meeting.
This review is for the Pinecrest location. Staff was friendly. Food was decent. Nice selection of beers and bourbon. A little on the pricey for the bourbons but I guess thats expected. Only complaint I have is this..... they replace the brown paper cover over the table cloth after each customer, but not the table cloth under it. Ours had what looked like dried up food on it that seemed old cause it was crusty. It was not in my way but did notice it.They should check them also after every customer leaves. Overall I will try them again when Im back at Pinecrest.
1-31-2021 Between. Take-out, online order. 2-3pm Burnt ends/ usually delicious. Today they were inedible; literally burnt. When I spoke with the Pinecrest manager, she informed that what I received is what they to look like, hence the name. She was rude and snippy. Showed no concern, instead asked, What? You want another meal? I said no. That I would handle my complaint in another way. I cannot locate a contact for the corporate office so I’m leaving my complaint here. I wish I could post the picture here.
We loved the food. It was so amazingly good. However the young boy who was our server did not start out the most friendly. He seemed annoyed when we asked questions and at one point looked at my husband like his question was stupid as if to say well duh. At the end he seemed he might possibly be a nice boy just one that needs to learn some manners and customer service skills. It was our first time ever there so of course we had questions about the menu. I cant help but wonder if the boy was just taken aback by the fact that we were an interracial couple. I know we were in Chesterland but certainly my husband cant be the first and only black man to ever patron your establishment . I as a store manager often have to kill some one with kindness who I dont care for because I dont want to loose business. Teach your staff to be more customer service friendly . We spend a lot of money and we tip well. We love the food and the atmosphere. We would like to treat our daughter to dinner there for her birthday but will be treated funny again ??
Id heard good things and was excited to eat here. It was even better than I had hoped. You must get the Burnt Ends appetizer. Scrumptious brisket tips perfectly tender and smothered in tasty bbq sauce. A meal on its own or plenty to share. Ribs and chicken were also excellent. Pair it with one of their many bourbons and enjoy. I sure did!
Always order the beef brisket when I go and I always go home FULL. My wife orders the 1/2 chicken every time and always loves it. Very large meal portions which is great. Price is not bad at all. Beer selection is excellent. We go here at least a once a month. And we drive all the way from Mentor, worth it.
My boyfriend and I came here about a month ago for date night and GOOD LORD WE WERENT DISAPPOINTED. Some of the best pulled pork I have ever had. It is quite busy and full but you dont feel crowded at all. The atmosphere was warm and casual. To top it off, the waitress we had was absolute perfection. Her section was busy but she managed to juggle all of us in a quick, friendly, and efficient manner.
Family took me for my birthday. Loved in Charleston, SC for 13yrs and hadnt found good BBQ since coming to Cleveland... until now. I had the pick 3 combo with ribs, chicken and sausages. The sides were cheddar smashed potatoes and apple slaw. All of it was great and well be back again.
A nice turn around! Use to be a run down bar, they have upgraded the inside, and we sat on the patio... Very sunny-they are working on an awning. We had the pulled pork tacos for an appetizer- really tastey! My husband had the shrimp and grits, which are a dryer version of the dish, but had very good flavor. I had the BBQ chicken salad, which was very good- I would have loved it if I loved smokey flavor. My daughter had hot wings..loved them! Our bill was $42, was worth it. We will go back!
Excellent!!! Sooo LUV this place. The food is fantastic and well worth a visit here and youll be hooked too. Just visited here again yesterday and already wanting to go back.Id just like to address one issue. That poor pig outside needs to be painted or something. He looks like hes been outside all winter. Poor lil piggy.
I was really surprised by how great this place was. I rarely write reviews (if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all) but I had to write about this place. Really well decorated inside, smells AMAZING as soon as you walk in, great and unusual cocktails and beer list, and really fantastic barbecue. We ordered one order of the Thai smoked wings as an app and had to get a second one they were so good. I had the chicken and corn waffle which was a perfect combo of sweet, spicy, and savory. My side was a cheesy mix of succotash (yum!) My friend had a burger and said it was good too. Our children were equally happy with their pulled pork sandwiches and homemade macaroni and cheese.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Expect to spend 12 bucks average per plate. Portions are pretty big, and very flavorful and delicious. Absolutely wonderful, vast alcoholic beverage selection. Bourbons and craft beers galore. Flight available. Server was very friendly and remembered to check on us even though they became busier as the night went on. Outside doesnt look impressive but inside is cozy. Tvs playings sports, booths, tables and bar. Table mat covers whole table and crayons are provided. Very fun place.
Came here with some family to celebrate a birthday in which they were overly accommodating. We all ordered something different and all tried a bit of everything in which everything was awesome! Not much of a bourbon drinker but they had a nice selection of beer and drinks too. Atmosphere reminded me of a trendy spot in Gatlinburg. Would highly recommend.
Service was horrible. Asked for steak rare. When it eventually came out it was med. well at best. Everyones Brussel sprouts were raw. They offered to pay half the food bill, but that really didnt help. The beef tips were a good appetizer, so we felt positive about the main course. Our waitress would not even look at us. Finally, after over 30 min. the manager brought our food out.Never going back.
Wow! This place has got it figured out when it comes to barbaque... brisket, pulled pork, chicken... You name it...And the best sides Ive ever tasted.. (must try the dirty grits)Great selection of suds, outstanding service, reasonable prices, and youve got the makings of a regular stop on your list of great places to enjoy dinner out.Wish I lived closer cause Id put this one at the top of my list!
Let me start by saying, that we travel full time and are accustomed to each area of the country being somewhat different, and we try to give the benefit of doubt due to the virus. That being said, this place is just plain bad. The service was the worst that we have experienced since coming to this area. The food was mediocre at best, and didnt agree with any of our stomachs. This is one to take off our list.
BBQ restaurant that is very popular, with reasonable prices and large draft beer selection. Our party of six ordered salmon, baby back ribs, burnt ends [no bones] and liked the main courses ... but two had ordered plantains as one of their two sides and both found them dry and overcooked. The waitress wouldnt [couldnt?] replace them with green beans without an upcharge! Very disappointing ... well not go back soon.
I went there with a group of eight which included my 3 little grand kids. One meal out of eight was acceptable. The pork rinds appetizer was inedible. The pork rinds were so hard I thought I would break a tooth. That was sent back. I will be surprised if this restaurant is still in business next year.
Good food. Pleasant servers. Sometimes a little loud, but one can generally still enjoy ones conversations while enjoying ones meal. Some of their offerings are out of the ordinary..One of our favorites, a combination of shrimp with grits, weve only seen at one other restaurant where it is no longer a regular offering but does still make fortunate but unpredictable guest appearances. Both restaurants make the dish very differently, which is appropriate... and THIS restaurant has it available daily, which is a welcome thing to know!.Another favorite is something called burnt ends--- its name does little justice as it sounds like something left over when in fact it is something quite delicious. Its an appetizer which leaves one wishing it was also offered as a main course!And-- dont miss their lovely cornbread!
My wife and I really enjoyed it here. I got the half rack of babyback ribs, with cheesy succotash and apple slaw. She had the pulled pork, with cheesy mashed potatoes and veggies. The meat was absolutely perfect and the sides were delicious. Even the cornbread was some of the best weve ever had! Definitely going back soon.
My wife and I ate at Oak and Embers last night and were sorely disappointed. She had the Cajun Shrimp tacos and the Black Bean soup, both were excellent! I had the crab cakes and the pulled pork. My sides were sweet potato fries and apple coleslaw. The crab cakes were good considering we are hundreds of miles away from Baltimore Md. and my pulled pork was also good. The smoky flavor was lovely but it could have used a bit more BBQ sauce. The sweet potato fries were perfect! The apple coleslaw was an epic failure. Over all the food would warrant future visits back to this restaurant, however, our service was lacking. We seated ourselves and had to wait a while before our waitress showed. Then she took our drink orders which arrived soon enough but upon delivering them she did not ask if we were ready to order. We were because the menus were on the table when we arrived and as mentioned we had to wait a while. Time passes and she finally shows up again and asks if we are ready to order. We do so and in a reasonable amount of time our food arrives. She stops by a couple of times to see how we were doing which was fine. But then we don’t see from her again for nearly a half an hour. We have finished our meal and would like to leave but no server. I finally had to get up find another server and request a box and our check.
This was a special night out for our 20th anniversary. Unfortunately it was not a great experience. I had been here with a friend about 2 months ago and was very impressed by the great food. Tonight the Cajun grouper that was supposed to be dusted with Cajun seasoning was heavily seasoned with it, so much so that I could not eat it. The corn bread was hard and just crumbled as we tried to eat it. My son who adored Mac and cheese took one bite. And the brisket was not great either. Cheesecake was good. Creme Brulie, my favorite was a sad ending. Our server was sweet. Offered to get the manager but too many things were wrong to try to salvage the meal.
Weve been looking for local authentic BBQ restaurant locally for years. Weve returned to Oak and Embers several times with friends from Pepper Pike, Beachwood area… worth the drive. Everyone has loved it and has come back on their own. No, the service is not fast, but its friendly, and the food is great and authentic.
Saturday was our first visit and we will definitely be back. The whole family enjoyed their meals. Burnt ends are a great appetizer and I can recommend the smashed potatoes and dirty grits as sides. The kids enjoyed their sliders as well. I can recommend Oak & Embers for sure.
I personally worked here they don’t wear gloves they dont wash their hands. They touch everything with their hands even though they have tongs they wipe their hands on their pants and go about work. Pick up the cornbread, celery, lettuce, with their bare unwashed hands. They take sips of your alcohol if they wanna try it. I worked there for 3 weeks with PROOF and their management is sub par as they cuss at employees and beg for the public’s patience “during a pandemic”
It is a great place to eat no matter if you go with your friends or young children earlier in the night. I have been here a few times and had many good meals including the Chicken and cornbread waffles, brisket, and the meatloaf. They also a good bourbon list. Check it out.
As a family that grew up in Memphis, Tennessee we know a thing or two about quality barbecue. I can say without hesitation that this is the best barbecue Ive had north of the mason-dixon line. It even beats some of my favorites from down south. Make sure to go for the burnt ends, they are absolutely magical. Smoked meat done right. Excellent selection of bourbon as well. Wine list needs work - a few more varietals and price points would offer wine drinkers a better experience. Yet, still a great family place. Free magic and face painting for the kiddos on certain days which is always a hit. We dont like to drive far to go out to a family meal, but Oak & Embers is the exception to the rule. We gladly drive a half hour away on a weeknight just to eat here.Things to try:Burnt EndsCheesy Mashed PotatoesRibsSmoked Chicken WingsCornbreadWarm Cookie w/ Ice CreamThings to avoid:Side and Entree SaladsGreen BeansFried Plantains
I had the chicken, which I enjoyed, until I found a hair in my fries. The dishes ordered by my party were salmon (which came out raw, not once but twice), brisket, pork, short rib and burger. Most were disappointed with the food. I gave it three stars because I thought the chicken, short rib, corn bread, fries and dessert were good. I mean, its Ohio bbq....
Its too long of a wait for a table. If the hostess says 30 minutes and its an hour. Thats a problem. The table that she sat us at had been empty and clean waiting for us for over 15 minutes. We saw it and assumed it was for a reservation. I get that its hard to get good hostess, but a lot of their staff seemed to be watching for empty tables. Also, every time we go there they have at least 45 minute wait till the food comes out, after we order. It seemed this time like the waitress went by our table and then grabbed her ipad and hit a couple of buttons. Did she not hit send when we ordered. Im not sure, but the wait seems to be consistent with other reviewers. They need more cooks!!!! The food is good, not as good as it used to be.
Food was dissapointing. Ribs were still pink and fleshy. The brisket was disgusting with a ketchup like sauce all over it. The baked beans tasted like they came from a soup kitchen. Mac n cheese was good. Overall bad experience. If you’re gonna get bbq, go to mission bbq in Parma
Everything is good here - salads, entrées, and especially the wide beer selection. The staff is also friendly. Its decidedly casual (jeans are appropriate), and it has a number of TVs behind the bar so its a great place to meet up with friends. Its not anything to write home about, but its a fantastic neighborhood restaurant.
First time going there today. Likes the atmosphere. It was ok.Had the wings and pulled pork tacos.Wings come as a pound bone in so thats 8 to 10 wings. They were sweet and spicy Asian or something. Flavor of the wings were good. Overall wing size was smaller like a bw3 or quaker wing.Pulled pork tacos were good. Lots of flavor mixes for sure. BBQ, some apple slaw, lettuce and tomatoes.Dont know if I would come back as Im not a huge BBQ person. The rest of our party was also just ok with the food. Nothing amazing but not bad either.
Good food, but not great. For instance, the smoked brisket was tough and fatty, and didnt taste smoked, and then the sauce used was sweet and smokey flavored. The effect was that it seemed like it was trying to trick you into thinking the beef might have been smoked. It wasnt bad, but I expected better for the price. The concensus was similar frome the 4 others with me. The waitress was dismissive and inattentive. Spectacular cornbread.
3/5 but, only bc of lots of construction currently going on and then a lack of any type of privacy between you and the next guy... like youre at Perkins Sunday at 1. Excellent server. We ordered chicken tacos. Very good and we ordered a 2 combo to share. Filled us up w a take home box. Excellent smoke mesquite flavors with our brisket/pulled pork with perfect onion rights and cheddar smash potatoes. Great for family dining (no talking privately here). I must add the cornbread was one of the best Ive had.. combo meal w ex side cornbread anf 3 alcoholic beverages came to near $60. Price a little high in my opinion but food was excellent.
This is hands down, one of the best BBQ places in Northeast Ohio. The food and drink are great and the burnt ends are to die for! My favorite thing to get is the burnt ends with cornbread instead of the plaintain chips and then to get a side of mac and cheese with a big bowl. You mix the burnt ends and the mac and cheese and you set yourself up with a fantastic meal! Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in this area of Ohio.
So first time, wasnt impressed with the expectations that ppl hyped up here. Service was very slow, 20 mins ish to get drinks. And for the time of appetizers to dinner, super slow.Ill give appetizers a 5 star. For the 4 appetizers we ordered, very pleased. Wings were top notch. As for dinner, the vegetables were absolutely terrible. Broccoli was limp and charged an extra 1.50 for vegetables of the day. Garbage can for those. Onion rings were over cooked. Most of the meat here was pretty good. But its hit or miss on the meat, short rib was ok. Tri tips, were very tough. Brisket was very close to on point. Would order those again. Pulled chicken and pork, was eh you know hard to mess up.For the mixed drinks and appetizers Id come back. But for dinner. Ill have to pass.
Oak and embers did not disappoint. We went there with some friends and each couple started with an order of burnt ends. The. Best. Anywhere. We also had several lovely cocktails and dinner. Brisket melts, chorizo meatloaf, shrimp and grits, pulled pork, and the biggest short rib EVER. all was delicious. Great place abd and love the original location in chesterland.
When you walk into the Oak and Embers all you smell is barbeque. It is a family friendly restaurant with both inside and outdoor seating. We dined at the Chesterland location. It was at six on a Saturday evening. The place was jammed with people. We didnt have to wait and were seated immediately. Our waitress asked if we had been there before. No this was our first time. My daughter lives in Chesterland and this is her and her wifes favorite place for barbeque. We started with an appetizer called burnt ends. It is brisket that is cut into chunks that is so tender. It is served with fried plantains. I ordered the pulled pork tacos with appleslaw. Granny smith apples in the coleslaw made it tart and sweet. My husband ordered the 10 oz sirloin steak. It had mushroom sauce topping and was a nice piece of meat. My friend had the brisket and said it was so tender and the barbeque sauce is sweet not vinagery. My daughter had the half a rack of ribs. Also very tender. My daughters wife ordered the chicken and waffles. A thigh served with jalapeno corn bread waffles. Also delicious. The cornbread is amazing. It is fluffy with sugar on top and highly addicting. My friend took home a box of cornbread for her aunt to try.The waitress was very busy but made sure that we had her attention and made sure we had everything that we needed. Excellent service. The prices are reasonable. If you love barbeque this is the place to go.
Phenomenal BBQ/smoked restaurant. Mac _ cheese is to die for! Chicken, pork, brisket, you cant go wrong. Huge beer & bourbon selection. If we cant eat in well do take out. They catered a party for us last summer. Have reviews. If you like smoked/BBQ you cant overlook Oak & Embers!
I like the idea to be rated as The Worst restaurant in the Ohio area. Sorry I cannot go lower than 1 star.As an unknown source said: Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to there level and then beat you with experienceProbably one of the worst restaurant ever. They are serving 3rd rate dog food to human and claiming best food in town. The waitress is horrible.Probably one of the worst restaurant ever. They are serving 3rd rate dog food to human and claiming best food in town , the waitress
Hostess was friendly, mussels appetizer was delicious. Wings, ,,,eh, ok. Beef Short Rib was a lie. It was pork. I swear. Grits eh. Server was friendly however they were very rude about cleaning and they cleaned all around us spring and sweeping and bumping into us and we were not even there late. Being a server myself for 29 yrs, I found this very disappointing. So did my friend.
While the brisket was very good, the apple slaw was not. I ended up with food posioning, assuming it must be from mayo based slaw. I wouldnt recommend that side anyways, it was pretty bad nothing but Hellmans mayo, Im glad I only ate a little but Im still pretty disturbed by the fact that they must have just left this sitting out for an extended period of time or from the side sauce that came with the sandwich. Who knows, but it probably wasnt the beef as it was a commonly shared item. My stomach says stick with briquettes in Bula permanently! Worth the drive anyways..
Great BBQ, but some inconsistencies keep it from being five stars: (1) the cheesy mashed potatoes have no cheese; (2) the burnt ends are very fatty; and (3) there is something wrong with the tap water. If youre comfortable with working around problems like this, its a great meal.
3 drinks each one had fruit flies and its out of season. Being a General Manager of a restaurant I would not let the staff handle it..I would have had a manager come over...Unfortunately they were watching the Browns game although I saw the bartender tell them....Disappointed because we come here a lot and use to be fantastic..quality of food and beverage has dropped....and lack of manager responsibly is evidently a 0...

2022-05-03It was good. I wouldnt say fantastic and I cant say we will go out of our way to go back. The burnt ends were good but the fried plantains they came with were disgusting and rock hard. I think the half chicken was just ok. Needed more bbq sauce but I didnt really care for their sauce either. It had an odd flavor to it I couldnt quite place. The portions were decent and the prices werent bad.

2022-01-14The customer service at Oak and Embers was great, and the food was hot, fresh, & pretty damn good! I would definitely recommend. They have three locations, and I went to the one in Chesterland, ask for Shawn, hes an excellent server!!! And for the record, the one at Pinecrest doesnt have catfish, Im just sayin! 😯🤩🤪

2022-02-12Great barbecue meat and they do have vegan menu. I would recommend a couple other sides like smothered potatoes or new potatoes. Cornbread not to my liking but if you like really sweet cornbread you will love it.

2022-06-23Ordered take out and only after we ordered were we informed that there was a %7 surge increase in their prices…again, this was AFTER we ordered. This is something that should be communicated before ordering so as to curb expectation. Will not be returning if there is no proper communication to guests.

2022-07-03I would give this a 5 star for my waitress! Heather was super sweet! My smoked tri tip steak was over done, cheddar smashed potatoes were missing the cheddar. Not a fan of having a 7% temporary inflation surcharge added onto my bill after...Notes on the bill that is for labor but not for the servers, what is this? Are the servers not part of the labor?I wont be back.

2021-02-01My first visit, I was super impressed. Very rustic and charming with a very good beer list and a wonderful brown liquor selection. I did a bourbon flight and some pulled pork and brisket. Woah so much food. Even the sides were delicious! Friendly staff and friendly patrons, I cant wait to go back.

2022-06-30Went to the Hudson location for a late lunch and to watch the Cleveland baseball game. While the food and service was good, except for the fact that a server walked past me 3 times and never greeted me, I had a problem with the bill. Besides the fact that they are adding a 7% temporary inflation surcharge fee, I also was charged thesame amount for a short draft beer as my previously ordered 2 tall drafts. Unfortunately I didnt notice until after I left. I gave a 20% gratuity on the entire bill including the ta and questionable surcharge. When I tried to contact them online I was directed to a GPS location. I would be wary of giving them you business.
