North End Kitchen and Bar in Athens
Amazing atmosphere to hangout, get some food and have a few drinks. An open window to the kitchen to see them freshly make all their food. Nice Patio for beautiful days. Service was very nice and accommodating. Food comes out surprisingly fast when it’s not at capacity. All the drinks taste fantastic and very reasonable prices. To top it all off, they have great deals all throughout the week! I would Definitely recommend going to see this establishment and kind staff for yourself!
Any good review of this restaurant is from people who are only complimenting it because their friends work there. I went in with a group of 4 people when there were no other customers and our waitress was not nearly as attentive as she could have been. I had to go up to the bar to get a drink from another waitress. The salsa is worse than Pace salsa from Walmart, you could break a tooth on the chips. The price you pay for the amount of food you get is not worth it.Very clear they need to retrain their staff and fix their menu. Will not be returning.
Went here for lunch and was pretty surprised that the menu was mostly mexican food. Ordered two signature tacos with a side was unimpressed with the portions for the cost. The tacos were very small and the side of cilantro lime rice I got was extremely basic. In addition to the portions being small, the food itself just wasn’t that good. The staff was very friendly and pleasant and I enjoyed the open air atmosphere.
This place is so good! We have eaten here several times this month and did take out. Each time we go, we always order a different assortment of tacos, our favorite is the farmers market and the guac shrimp! The restaurant is cozy and decorated perfectly for modern style taco bar. Staff is very attentive and you can watch them prepare food in the open kitchen. They are using all covid protocols and offer online ordering and delivery to your car for take out. Make sure you order the churros!!! Highly recommend!
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I wouldn’t even wish it on my ex to go to this place. All of the 5 star reviews are definitely from liars.Edit: I feel as if I should expand on my experience. My food tasted like it was right out of the microwave, similar to a lean cuisine some would say. The waitress never asked for my drink order, but once she did she only brought drinks to 2 people. We were served coffee out of a kuerig, which apparently they aren’t even supposed to serve to customers. Overall, very bad experience and we would only return for the mimosa pitcher.
If I could rate this as less than a 1 star I would. I am a server myself and had the worst service I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The servers were rude, inattentive & on their phones in front of customers. After walking in we were not greeted & unsure where to go, sat at the back bar then were told we had to move. Sat at the front bar, got drinks, they were not good at all. Wanted to order food and were excited about the menu, but waited 30 more minutes until we finally got the attention of a different bartender who we politely asked to cash us out. She said nothing when handing the receipt as she was talking to a coworker about her hangover.
Decent prices, presentation and atmosphere but mediocre taste with food and drinks. Menu seems thrown together, like a lot of things with this bar. It’s a little sterile here - it just kinda screams “eccentric wealthy sole proprietorship that is out of touch with what their market actually wants”
I brought my parents to what I thought was a nice establishment. While there the manager took the mic and began to do slam poetry (and he wasn’t good). In the middle of his “performance” a bird flew in the restaurant and he proceeded to catch the bird and decapitated it in front of everyone. Once he cleaned up the blood he played Friday by Rebecca Black on repeat for an hour. $0 tip.
Needs to reevaluate staff. Slow service, rude servers.Edit: I feel I should elaborate. As my party was exiting the bar after 2 hours of dining, one of the waitresses walked out and approached us on the sidewalk. She accused us of, laughing in one of the servers faces, and that because of that, we shouldnt return tonight. I was a little shocked, and asked what she was talking about. She then said that none of our table had tipped, which they didnt appreciate. The friends I was with told her that they had in fact tipped, to which she replied oh, maybe that was a different table. It was after being falsely accused of rude behavior and falsely shamed for mistreating wait staff, that I admitted to her that I was the sole party member who didnt tip on my $13 bill, because the only times we were served in two hours was when I got up to ask a passing server if we could place a drink order, and again when I had to get up 30 minutes after being ignored to ask for our checks. She then stormed off back up the steps into the bar, in a huff. The food is ok, the margaritas are a tad overpriced, but the biggest issue is the incompetent and incredibly rude staff. Ill take slow service, but I wont accept being accused of rude behavior for no reason. I doubt ill be returning, as Casa Nueva provides better food, better drinks, and larger portions for the same price a block away, and has competent servers.
Beautiful establishment, loved the open feeling and the service was great. However, the food was really lacking.Bland, cold and VERY soggy. Verde salsa was fermented. House margarita tasted like sugary lemonade. This place has a lot of potential, but we were disappointed.
Looks good from the outside, but my group had a horrible experience. Employees loudly arguing, wait staff not knowing what theyre doing, cold and undercooked food, bad margheritas... My friend threw up afterward. I went for a restaurant atmosphere and got a sorority bar.
Finally a fresh more upscale restaurant besides Ciró in town. My wife and I decided to try and well be back for sure. The service was prompt and friendly beyond reproach. The food is fresh, cooked in front of you, and has original flavor. Not just your normal OH mexican eatery. They had decent beer and a great house marg with casamigos. Street corn is something new and delicious to have in town as well. Please support stuff like this when youre through Athens for a parents or cibs weekend. They just opened. Good luck North End. You have a great formula on place!

2021-11-17Well, if you read the past reviews, I do not know anyone working at the bar and that is not the reason Im leaving this great review! My family and I were in Hocking Hills for the weekend and drove into Athens for lunch. We found some street parking and then nearly every place we had considered to eat was completely booked until later that evening (we went around lunchtime). So we Googled some nearby places. We had never heard of North End and we were so happy this is where we ended up.Smaller place, bar setting (so if thats not your thing, be mindful of that) and we found a table in the back. Evelyn was our server and she was incredible, thoughtful, expedient, and thorough. It took her a few minutes to notice us but she was just so welcoming and apologized for the wait even though it wasnt very long.We ordered the trio and nachos to start. First, the chips are freaking amazing. Crunchy - just how a nacho chip should be. That way when theyre loaded up they dont get all flimsy! The guac was incredible and none of us could stop talking about the salsa (medium was perfect, just a lil bit of heat). Our drinks? Stellar. Ooooooo that strawberry margarita! And the one named after something George Clooney did. Must trys. The cauliflower is out of this world. I ordered a bowl and added black beans and it was so tasty. I cannot have dairy and we had double checked to make sure it didnt have cheese on the bowl. When we got our food there was indeed cheese on it but Evelyn was fast to correct and so was the kitchen. Excellent service all around! :)Check it out if you want some good drinks, yummy eats, and a more relaxed/bar setting. 10/10!

2022-06-14I highly recommend the street tacos! They are small though, like I would consider 2 an appetizer.. so order accordingly. Also, cant go wrong with the spicy cucumber salad, any of the bowls, or the specialty drinks! It gets louder in the evening when the bar crowd shows up, so if youre looking to go somewhere to chat or catch up over food, I suggest going earlier in the evening. If youre looking for a chill place with great drinks, music, & outside seating.. definitely a great place to go anytime of day!

2021-05-03I’m rating this place based on their food options. I didn’t have any alcohol which is probably why most people go.It was a really pleasant and lively place to visit so it is definitely a good option if you’re going to just enjoy the area and get some drinks, however, the food was not very good and way too small of portions!Surprisingly, this place serves mostly all mexican food. My table ordered some of the street tacos and were not impressed at all. The best part about the tacos was the cilantro and onions. The barbacoa tasted mostly like american pulled pork barbecue. Also, it is very important that you see the part on the menu that says that corn tortillas are available upon request. Fortunately, someone at my table saw that but unfortunately, we forgot to request them when ordering. Street tacos are traditionally served on corn tortillas and are so much better this way. We also ordered tortilla chips and salsa and the salsa definitely tasted like it was store bought and the chips were okay.

2022-03-18Nasty service. More importantly, workers are thieves. Be carful for what you order and how much they charge you. If you want to go there, you have to keep an eye on how much they charge you, especially your card. Thieves (Big Time). I suggest the owner to keep an eye on what they do behind cashier.
