Nicola is a neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff and fairly attentive service. Pasta entrees average in the mid-$20s, and other entrees are higher. A substantial side salad is an extra $8 or $9 and bread is offered only for additional cost. If you are interested in a special, ask the price because it may be well above the cost of regular entrees. The beef braciole special, at a hefty $42, recommended by the server, was nicely presented in a flavorful sauce. Unfortunately, it also was quite dry and disappointing. Extra cheese is available but will be a dish of pre-grated parmesan. Pepper similarly is from a shaker and not freshly ground. Our experience was pleasant overall but not commensurate with the prices. The restaurant does have a wine list that focuses on a good assortment of Italian wines.
Came here originally on my birthday last year . The food is just amazing. The chef / owner is from Italy and knows how to cook. The homemade pastas were amazing , the staff knew what kind of wine my wife needed , as their wine menu was very overwhelming. Huge wine menu lol .My wife wanted come back on Valentine’s Day weekend on a Saturday , and it was such a lovey experience ..... we started with the fried calamari. It was crunchy and tender. Got a nice $30 of Cabernet and it was smooth. I don’t really drink wine but I was able to drink a whole bottle with wifey . Next we got a shrimp / crab dish and 4 cheese ravioli. Outstanding entrees. Didn’t look like much but we were very stuffed . Last was our lime something cake ....We did come at 8pm so the crowd died down so our service was pretty spot on .Love love love this place !***updates*** 12/21/2020Just came here on a Monday for my bday and it was perfect ! When we got there at 6pm there was only us and another table. We practically had the restaurant for a good 30 minutes to ourselves . Usually this place is packed but probably due to covid it has slowed down. They closed their larger dining area. We had a bottle of wine , few appetizers , and two main courses ! Our food was awesome ! And service was great ! Wish it was busier so the restaurant stays in business.AppsCapreseCarpaccioMeatballsMain dishFettuccini w mushrooms / shrimp /scallopsPiccata chicken w spaghetti?
Cute restaurant! We got our own little corner behind curtain, it was quite perfect for a group of loud kids and adults.Meatballs and the sauces were very good!!! The other entrees portions are all too big. Seafood risotto was not bad, I would prefer the seafood not cooked so much that they were a bit chewy. We all laughed over the one giant piece of ravioli, that was not expected. It smelled really good and was told that it tasted very good too. They have a large menu of wine by glass and by bottle. Cocktail menu was pretty standard.I would prefer here than any other chain restaurant, but there are also much better Italian out there.
Excellent food and service highlight this wonderful restaurant on the north side of Columbus! I was recently visiting family and we decided to go to Nicola for a nice quiet dinner. It was later on a Saturday night and after we had placed our orders we were pleasantly surprised when our server not only brought some bread, but a nice bruschetta appetizer, as well, and he explained it was on the house since they were low on bread. I went with the lasagna, as I also do, on my first visit to an Italian restaurant and it did not disappoint. We had also ordered a beef carpaccio appetizer for the table that was quite excellent. We capped off the meal with an exquisite rendition of tiramisu, that proved to be a delicious finale to our dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and am definitely looking forward to my next visit!
I was in Columbus for 4 weeks for work and of course I find this restaurant on my last night in town! If I would’ve known about this place my first week I would’ve eaten here once a week. Service was good. I got the chicken Marsala and substituted Alfredo sauce with pasta instead of the spaghetti and sauce. It was so good along with the bread and oil! I want to go back here if I ever get back to Columbus!
One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been too! The atmosphere was so cozy and nice. Our server, Igor, was very attentive and did an excellent job of explaining everything that was on the menu. I got the Tuscan Nido, and it was the best pasta dish I have ever had. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the Columbus area looking for a nice dinner.
Was immediately greeted upon entry, Saturday reservation was found & seated. Good cocktails, calamari was great, solid mix of entrees w/ options to create several versions of fresh pasta for the undecided. Very surprised they did not bring bread to the table automatically but I’m sure you could order it. Was not cheap, but quality, I would recommend.
First of all, the food was phenomenal! However, thats not all that a dine-in restaurant is rated on. We got there around 6:50 and had a reservation for 7:15. We were asked if we would like to sit inside or outside, where there was a wait. We opted for outside seating and were told that we would get the next table. Outstanding! That didnt happen. There was another guest, whose party hadnt even arrived yet, who the next table was actually reserved for.Fast-forward and hour and we finally got our table. We had a few drinks that we took from the bar, so we were in good spirits. The restaurant is beautiful and the food sounded delicious. About 10 minutes later, we put our order in. Then we sat. We waited. No word from our server. No bread for the table. Just sitting alone in the back corner with no wait staff actually waiting on us.I suppose we werent COMPLETELY alone. One of the bus boys kept dumping old wine into the plants and getting it on my girlfriends dress. Perhaps a kiss of alcohol is considered a sign of good luck? After an hour of waiting, our food finally arrived. We got the specials for the day, which were outstanding! I had the sea bass and my girlfriend had stuffed shrimp. The staff was finally paying attention to us again and the rest of the meal was outstanding. If we werent waiting around, being ignored, I could have given a higher rating, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. Especially the part where the only attention that we had was because they dump old glasses of wine into the plants next to other guests.
Alot of these reviews mention poor service and I am here to say they are far from the truth. Our food was out in less than 15 minutes. Our waitress, Meg was kind, funny, very helpful with the menu and just great overall. The food was outstanding. We had the Tagliatelle Bolognese and Potato Gnocchi (both perfect serving sizes and delicious) Several other servers were helpful and quick too! Perfect place for date night as well! If you are reading this review wondering if you should eat here, put the phone down and go.
Excellent service, friendly staff, huge wine list and tasty food. We had a great bottle of Chianti. Then we split the calamari and caprese. The calamari was perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. I saw the guy in the kitchen breading it. The caprese was honestly one of the best Ive had. Being winter, the tomato wasnt the best but the mozzarella was perfect. It was topped with a delicious pesto. And the plate was drizzled with the thickest balsamic glaze Ive ever had. It was almost like caramel. The balsamic glaze was extremely flavorful. For our main courses, we had the Tuscan Nido and the wild mushroom Tagliatelle. The Tuscan Nido was basically a giant ravioli. The filling had great flavor. I loved the pops of whole peppercorn and the fried sage leaves. The pasta was clearly homemade and perfect. The wild mushroom Tagliatelle was even better. The mushroom flavor was amazing and the smell was just divine. Normally, I would have liked to see the addition of truffle to a dish like this but honestly, I think it was near perfect without. The mushrooms just had such good flavor. To top off our meal, the lady who seated us came around to see how our meal was. Based on our conversation, I assume she was the owner. She was incredibly sweet. We will be back.
Went here for Christmas Eve. They had a limited menu and ran out of Chicken by 7 pm. Which is interesting because we had to put a credit card down when we made a reservation with the threat of being charged if someone didn’t come. Therefore they knew exactly how many people would be there. We spoke to the owner while at dinner and she had a horrible attitude and just brushed us off. Our server was great and was trying to do everything she could for us. We will not be coming back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Took a friend here for the first time (I had been a couple times before) and she loved the food. Most items on the menu are very good and so are the wines. I will give 3 stars for the food alone. Unfortunately I will not give any stars for the service. Our waitress was too young and inexperienced. You cannot have a higher end restaurant with lower end wait staff. We ordered some items that never made it to our table. Continuously had go back to get answers to questions we had about certain dishes and so on.
Made us put down a credit card to hold our reservation and would charge $25 for each person that didn’t show. This was understandable for Christmas Eve and didn’t bother us, but what did bother us was they ran out of the chicken dish by 7:15 with an already very limited menu. This is shocking considering they knew exactly how many people would be coming to the restaurant. Spoke to the owner and she was not accommodating at all.
My husband and I have been going to Nicolas for dinners for a while ever since we discovered the delicious food, wonderful service, and beautiful patio. We also our wedding rehearsal dinner, and Esperanza as well as her staff provided stellar service, and such a wonderful evening to celebrate with our family & friends. You can not go wrong with any of the food, but our personal favorites include the fish of the day specials, veal shank w/ risotto, lasagna, limencello liquor, tiramisu, limencello cake, and much more. We look forward to continued delicious shared meals at Nicolas!
My wife and I are visiting from Tucson and our daughters took us to Nicola Restaurant for a pre Thanksgiving dinner. The experience was fabulous. The food, the service and the staff all made for a wonderful holiday experience and I recommend Nicola Restaurant to everyone.
Went there with my husband for Valentines Day. Im not super into Italian food, but I saw an opening for the weekend. The menu looked good so I figured I could give it a try. Even for such a crowded night, the service was wonderful. The wine list was very extensive (your server can make a good recommendation if you are unsure). I ordered the risotto (I have had very bad risotto before, so I was a bit hesitant) and it was absolutely delicious. .It can be very easy to mess up risotto, but theirs was the perfect texture. Highly recommend!
Hair in food, the manager, or owner, basically said it happened all the time. She did not care. I couldn’t eat it bc nauseated but still paid full price for the displeasure. Overpriced and horrible service as well. Then this person who stated she would never be rude to customers, basically just left the same message on my voicemail saying that I was lying. This just shows the quality of person running this awful restaurant.Unless you want to pay for hair in your food or be over charged for a rude service and managers/owners I would say stay away. Also if youWrite a negative review from your horrible experience, expect a really rude message! Horrible I’ve never experienced anyone like this! I do not even understand how they stay in business!! They are simply a pretentious place.
Not largely occupied which was a good thing we had reservations and were seated immediately. The waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and types of beverages with recommendations. Atmosphere is superb for intimacy or family. Seating is in or outdoor. Food was absolutely fantastic and very well prepared. Highly recommend it.
So authentic & delicious! We sat on their beautiful patio, which has flowers carefully spread out amongst the tables to make it feel private. We got the duck & lamb pasta & both were amazing! The owner stopped by our table several times & chatted with us. She was such a sweetheart who really cared that we were enjoying our time.
Skip this place and go straight to Morettis. I bought a dinner for 4 from this place and it was all fine, but the portion sizes and flavor cant compare with Morettis. I would have gone to Morettis but they had a water problem that day and were closed. Prices are slightly higher here than Morettis too.
Prices are very high. The sea bass dish and the Calamari is good. I didnt like the lobester bisque soup at all, they put Orzo inside it which made it taste very weird. I asked for bread with my pasta and when they bring the dish there was no pasta, just the shrimp and garlic crunchy bread, and when they bring the correct one there was no bread. I asked for it he bring a weird one. It was very very very soft and not fresh and tasted very bad. I liked the place and the decoration, it was fancy. The manager ir supervisor i am not sure was very friendly with everyone.
5 star all the way. Friendly, attentive staff (Sarah especially) from greeting to bill presentation. Food was superb, excellent cocktails and extensive wine list. Weve traveled Italy extensively. Nicolas would be at home in Florence or Rome. You owe it to yourself to go.
I want to say how much I truly love this place! Being a first timer and only hearing great things prior to my current experience.... I like to experience things myself to make my own judgment calls. When we arrived we were greeted and from that point on made to feel like we were the only guests there. We were taken care of by a genuine, funny and highly knowledgeable lady that knows how to make you feel like one of her own family members. Thank you Beth for putting up with us and really taking care of us. Not to mention the food that was amazing! Thank you for making us feel like a part of your family...... because now you are a part of ours! Thanks again we will definitely be back!
Went to Nicola restaurant in Dublin last evening. This restaurant is amazing. The food is always delicious and served beautifully. Management people are always very friendly and readily available. Service was excellent. I love the ambiance and it is such a pleasure to enjoy an evening at Nicolas. Be sure to put Nicola’s at the top of your list of restaurants to try.
First visit to Nicola for dinner last night and we were very impressed! We dined inside because the patio was full, the patio looks beautiful so hoping get a spot outside next visit! The inside ambiance is relaxing and cozy, not to mention the staff was very attentive! Food was phenomenal, I recommend the arancini appetizer 😊. Lastly, the owner came to check on us during dessert and chatted with us briefly, that personal touch definitely goes above and beyond a lot of other restaurants. Not to mention, she sent two lemoncello shots our way, yummmmmy!I Forgot to take photos because, we were too busy eating and enjoying ourselves. Definitely on my list of places to go back to!
OMG. What a FANTASIC EVENING. Ok listen. Im Italian, I’m a Chef, My Italian Grandmother, Aunt and Mother taught me how to Cook. We went in for a birthday celebration. The Food was authentic Italian food, it was wonderfully prepared and as an Italian it’s tough to eat Ted sauce out. I would eat that sauce any day. Our sever was wonderful, she had great suggestions which we tried. And they were delicious. We had 3 apps, salads entrees, lemonchello. Nicola, sir I cannot say enough about your place . This is the 3-4 time I’ve been in and it has always been fantastic. Ciao we dined on 9/11/21. And were on the patio
For this restaurant to be so expressive the customer service was horrible. We had a server who was sick and admitted she was sick and that she was at the end of a cold in which she didnt have a mask on. As we tried to speak to a manager we were advised the manager went home for the evening and that they could get her on the phone. I was attending a birthday dinner at which the cake was brought in the restaurant but the restaurant wanted to charge to cut a cake they didnt make ($2 a slice). The food was ok but definitely not worth the money they were charging.
Our anniversary spot of many years. Additionally, we take friends here from out of town. Some of the most authentic Italian food combined with impeccable hospitality. Highly recommended. If your even slightly skeptical, I say try anything once and let the cooking speak for itself.
I had the walnut salad and lasagna and my wife had the cap read and spaghetti bolognese. This was literally the best lasagna I have ever had in my entire life, and I’ve done tons of traveling and have been to many great Italian restaurants. We were visiting from out of town and found this place on accident. If you’re anywhere near Columbus it’s worth the drive.
My friends and I had an excellent meal here. Two of us are vegetarians and when we inquired about our options, our server told us that he would ask the chef if he could possibly prepare a vegetarian risotto. He said yes and the three of us each ordered it. It was absolutely fantastic, and I was impressed at the chefs willingness to be accommodating. At the time, the restaurant was not all that busy, but I still think they went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend Nicola and will be going back myself.
Tonight was the first time I dined at Nicola’s. As an appetizer, calamari was ordered and it was excellent! I had the veal with scallops as my entree and it was also excellent! The veal and scallops were so tender, they melted in your mouth. Service was great as well as the atmosphere!
We have been to Nicola’s several times including popular wine dinners they host. Our most recent visit was with another couple and we all enjoyed our meals. I am gluten free and have no problem finding something on the menu and if I want I ask the waiter to tell the kitchen to prepare a surprise. Awesome option! Top off your meal with a glass of his homemade limoncello.
Excellent, authentic Italian food in a great atmosphere. The pasta is homemade here and every dish I’ve ever had is delicious! I’ve never been for happy hour but I’ve heard it’s a good one. I’ve eaten here on holidays (Christmas Eve, Easter), and the staff is always great even though they are working so hard. If you like real Italian food, you e got to eat here!
I have had extraordinary food at Nicola. I love the place. But, last time, the sauce on my veal piccata was completely congealed; the plate had sat under a warmer for way too long, obviously. I didn’t complain, as the dinner was meant to be a romantic event ... but I’m not sure how soon I will return ....
This is an absolute gem, the Italian food and experience is one of the best I have ever experienced. I go to Italy every two years and they are very authentic. I had the Veal which is difficult to make right and it was OUTSTANDING. The service is excellent and the owners are very involved in every aspect of the operation. I cannot say enough about the quality of this place!!!
We always bring out-of-town guests here, and you came through again with a lovely dinner for us and a dear friend whom I had not seen in at least 10 years. Loved the chicken special, the delicious wine and the fine dessert (black sambuca). Thanks for a wonderful reunion evening!
This place is truly wonderful. I was taken here a a surprise dinner by some friends, and I loved every moment. Our server was so kind and patient with my group. The food was incredibly delicious! I would definately recommend the Gnocchi Con Gamberi! Overall one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to.
This is the best Italian food in Cincinnati. The Bolognese pasta is to die for. I have never had an entree disappoint either. They have a great wine selection and the cocktail menu is quite good as well. I really like the atmosphere here too and this restaurant is always a great place for a night of great dining.
Weve been few times to Nicolas and wanted to have Christmas dinner with our family. They had a menu that was just for Christmas and it looked promising. The service was slow and perhaps it could have been because they were overwhelmed with reservations that night. Appetizers were good. Out of 10 plates, 2 plates were hot, the rest were pretty cold. Was expecting more from Nicolas for almost a thousand dollar dinner. Well probably visit again, but not for holidays as it seems like they could not handle it.
I know it was new years, but service was slow. 2.5 hours for a dinner of 4. Menu prices were inflated and serving size was small. They built in a 20% tip, which I wouldnt have given based upon my experience. Waiter didnt introduce himself and barely showed up during the meal. Took 15 minutes just to get the check. Im sure the other reviews are fair, but last night wasnt a good impression for my first time there.
A good overall quality meal, a nice environment and the owner was present saying hello and checking in with the patrons to make sure they were enjoying their visit. The mozzarella caprese salad was delicious and the Italian curd meat tasting plate was also very good. The pappardelle was good, but just not quite what I wanted, next time I visit Ill have to try something else
We dined at Nicolas for NYE December 31, 2019 for the first time since moving to Columbus 3 years ago. I regret not coming here sooner. What a delightful 4-course meal we had! The service was top-notch (ask for Alex the italian-speaking waiter, he is fabulous) and be sure to order a bottle of Ludi red wine with your meal. This wine is straight from Italy and seldom available on restaurant menus. The food is very authentic with good size portions for the price. Dont forget to conclude your dinner with a piece of limoncello cake. Just wow!
Excellent meal with pasta and soft and melts in your mouth lamb pieces. Bread that was served as appetizer was also warm, soft, and fresh with seasoned olive oil. Finally had the tiramisu for dessert and it was also soaked with just the right amount of espresso and fresh mascarpone cheese was used. Overall great experience.
I went as a guest with 4 others. We had to find our waiter at each step of our meal. To get drinks, to get bread, to order and to get our bill. The waiter was rude and never checked on us. The restaurant was not busy. It was Tuesday at 7:30pm. Then, because the table had 5 people, this absent waiter just added his 20% to our bill. Very infuriating. I guess he knew he did not even have to try. The food was okay but not worth the price. The folks I dined with are all high end restaurant workers and they were shocked. None of us would return.
Nicolas is a blessing. The food is exquisite and authentic, the staff was extremely polite, kind and timely, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant was meticulously clean. Everything was perfect for my birthday. Its very high end, but the cost isnt too high for what they deliver. Everything else had gone wrong today up until then, but this made up for it. I had wanted authentic veal since going to Little Italy in New York. This was every bit as good and I look back on that as the best (other) meal (now) I ever had in a restaurant. We had a wooden cutlery board of Italian meats. We had veal scallopini with fettuccini. It was very tender veal with scallops smothered in cheese. We had some champagne as well. For dessert we had cannoli with chocolate and strawberry sauce as well as some lemoncello liquor. Everything was spectacular. Thank you so much for the food, for brightening my birthday and the wonderful conversation. I definitely intend to come back for special occasions. May God bless you and your business just as you were a real blessing to my family.
I love Italian food and was excited when our server explained that everything at Nicolas is hand made, fresh daily. I ordered the $29 steak dinner, and I was pleased that the meat was high quality but, disappointed that it was under seasoned. I figured Id move on to the stack of rosemary potatoes and was further disappointed to find that they tasted like plain potatoes dropped into a fryer (no flavor other than slightly under-cooked potato). When our waitress returned, I explained that I was unhappy with the dish. She didnt ask what I didnt like but, offered to exchange it for something else. So, I ordered the chicken Marsala. After a short wait our waitress dropped off the new dish and immediately left the dining area. I only mention this because I had no silverware. Eventually, I decided to grab silverware from a nearby table instead of waiting for my dish to grow cold (when I mentioned this to the server her response was Ok). People make mistakes and Im sure she didnt realize she had removed all of my silverware with the previous plate but, her lack of interest in this bit of information struck me as odd. Anyway, I tried the chicken and it was fine but, again, a bit under seasoned. My biggest complaint about the chicken Marsala was the namesake sauce, it was thin and a bit weak. The chunks of raw corn starch in the sauce explained the thin consistency and flavor of the sauce, thickening sauce with corn starch is NOT the same as allowing it to reduce. I decided Id used my one big restaurant complaint for the evening and let it go but, two disappointing dishes, knowing that the kitchen takes shortcuts that negatively affect the food, and experiencing the somewhat apathetic service I wont be back.
This is a Hidden Gem of a restaurant that includes some unique items as well as traditional Italian food. The food and service is excellent. They have a small but lovely outdoor patio as well as a indoor separated party room for large groups. You can find their menu online and you will find this restaurant delightful
When my husband and I walked in, we were impressed by the lovely and quiet atmosphere. It was cold and windy outside and the restaurant was a soft, glowing, warm oasis. We were seated immediately (at 6:20 on a Wednesday) and our waiter took our drink order. Unfortunately, thats where our good experience stopped. I had to ask for the soup of the day and then the risotto of the day. The daily specials were not shared with us, and honestly, we would have ordered off that menu first. My husband ordered the lobster bisque (soup of the day) and was disappointed in its pudding-like consistency. For our entrees, he ordered the roast pork rolled with homemade sausage and vegetable flan. I ordered the lasagna. The homemade sausage had such an odd flavor that it tainted the pork and the gravy was so salty that his lips burned. The vegetable flan was a great idea, but the eggplant on the top layer was too tough to cut through or chew. My lasagna presented wonderfully and was a large portion with golden, gooey cheese and bechamel sauce. Unfortunately, the three meat blend they used was pureed down to a thick baby food consistency and made the whole portion awkward eating with its odd feel. We were not at all happy spending the aprox. $20 per entree and receiving this quality of food. We also ordered the bruschetta and received 3 pieces for $7. Overall, it was a completely lackluster experience that left us feeling cheated out of a good meal and $80+ including drinks and tip. If only our waiter had seemed involved with our table instead of catering to larger, older clientele (we are 43 & 42), we may have had a better experience. He only checked back immediately after we received our meals, and with the saltiness of my husbands, he could have had 3 or 4 more water refills!
Weve been here a couple times and been impressed. Excellent, reasonably authentic (Ive been to Italy a couple times) Italian food from what I believe to be a local owner. Very good service. I showed up in shorts and a polo shirt and it was ok, but I did feel a little underdressed.
Absolutely wonderful experience. The service, atmosphere, food and drink, even the bathrooms were great. Im not from the area, but if I was this would probably become my favorite special dinner spot. Our server was just amazing, and it was truly a magical evening out.
Perfect for date night. It was about an hour wait to be seated outside so we decided to get drinks at the bar while waiting. After two seats opened up at the bar, we decided to just have our dinner there as well which was perfect since the seats were off to the side on the corner. Our bartender Chris was awesome and made our experience a fun and perfect one!Consistently great food and service. My 3rd time back in less than a month - thats how good it is! I wish I could have ordered another 2-3 entrees!!! It was FAB!Definitely recommend!
We had an amazing dinner on the patio at Nicolas, we were surrounded by beautiful flowers and herbs...like a Tuscany garden. We had the San Gimigniano ravioli, they were delicious pillows stuffed with kale, ricotta and pecorino topped with fresh tomatoes and herbs from their garden; and the special which was a grilled squid steak, so tender and topped with sauteed colorful peppers. Our server was very attentive, professional and very pleasant. We cant wait to return.
I dont give 5 stars easily. 3 is average, 2 and 4 are below and above respectfully, 5 is the pinnical, 1 is worst. Nicolas is a nice restaurant. It was comfortable and clean with modern design. Service is average but expected more.. Everyone was nice just not attentive. Appetizers were good, mojito no so. A mojito is without question a minty drink. Close your eyes and think of a mojito the two things you think of is mint smell and taste with completely destroyed mint leaves in the bottom of glass .... not one mint lonely completely intact mint leaf floating. One other thing I really hate to say is the worst. It is open to interpretation and completely an opinion. I have had enough cheesecakes to know that a great cheesecake is the only cheesecake. Smooth, creamy, tight yet melts in your mouth with a buttery coating. This was gummy with floury taste. Almost as the effort and thought trumps the end result. I think they could be awesome with attention to detail.
Last night Nicolas owners threatened me after I approached them about the message their waiter sent me on Yelp 1/3/15. Nicola, himself, threatened my well being after I presented him and his wife the message their waiter sent me on YELP. He insinuated that if we were in Italy things would be different and he could hurt me and get away with it. For those wondering, I attached the message Shawn W sent me in a previous post. After the owner threatened me, his wife then threatened to add misc charges to my credit card as pay back because she could and as I would not let the incident go.I have spoken to my lawyer in case the owners try to charge me for no apparent reason. Shawn W, Nicola and his wife are without class, without etiquette and refuse to take responsibility for their actions and terrible service. Shawn told me I should go to Olive garden from now on. Folks, I am Italian and cook my own Italian food weekly. I am not a fan of Olive garden, but I would gladly go their from this moment on as they understand a good experience and try to make their patrons enjoy their experienced. Nicolas has terrible food, terrible service and most importantly no class. Please friends, avoid this place. Everyone I know says it is terrible. They must ask their associates and family to post false testimonials on here for positive reviews.
Waited all through quarantine to go to nearby Nicolas. I had the agnlotti lucchese (veal) with carpaccio appetizer. Daughter had Nido. Everything perfect. We appreciated the old time courtesy Nicola paid by chatting with us before dinner arrived and the post-dinner homemade limoncello. A perfect evening. Anxious to return.
We regularly frequent this restaurant which weve found to be outstanding, and consistently delivers delicious, hiqh quality, fresh, truly authentic Italian food. Every time we dine at this restaurant Nicola and Speranza make sure that we, and all the customers, have a great experience. The cioppino, osso buco, risotto of the day, sea bass and handmade pasta are the best we have ever eaten, and we eat at many different restaurants but this one is the best. The wine dinners are incredible. We highly recommend this restaurant! Everyone that weve recommended this restaurant to becomes repeat customers like ourselves and tell us that they had the best Italian food theyve ever eaten at Nicolas.
Great food and atmosphere, only downside was that the air wasnt working when I was there and it was getting kind of stuffy. The staff was nice and very attentive, especially with drink refills, even with a large crowd. Ive only been for a brunch, but I hope I get to go again and try dinner sometime.
Ok to good food. I has Veal Scalopini. Portion was very small. Good flavor but too much mushroom sauce. My wife had Pork Tendorloni and it was dry and they took half of the price off. Good service. Good bread and salads. Good Bombay Saphire Martini but they had the nerve, the udacity to charge me $2.00 extra just because I asked for a full martini and not a half glass. That was 6 months ago. Will try again tonight.
Where do I start? bread was good, was served with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. no seasoning or depth of flavor to the oil, just straight olive oil (sad) .. I had the crab pasta, yikes... pasta was absolutely not homemade, the crab was dry shredded and Im about 99.9% positive it was from a can... there was little to no sauce that tasted like straight olive oil. more than just a little disappointing. Forced myself to eat half, left half on the plate because it just wasnt edible if you were trying to enjoy it...Husband had the veal, although cooked properly (not overcooked), again not homemade pasta, store bought egg noodles, sauce on his veal was worse than my canned mock tuna noodle casserole. the sauce tasted like blended bland scrambled eggs.... terrible, absolutely discusting. They might have reduced the bill if we would have complained, but honestly everything was sooooooo far into the terrible range , I wouldnt even know where to begin. Prices range from $19 to $33 a plate.... total waste of time and money! Extremely Disappointing. ...... PS: the 1 star is for the flowers, Decor and soft guitar one man band,,,,, no points for food, terrible and colorless, unappealing to the eye and the taste buds...
Overall I’ve enjoyed the food at this restaurant. But I just had an unforgivable experience. They called and demanded a $25 payment just to hold an existing reservation. I’ve never had a restaurant in Columbus demand payment for a reservation. Especially not a suburban restaurant in a strip mall. I’ve eaten here for the last time.
We heard great things from friends, so I ordered dinner for us on doordash. It took about an hour to get the order and it wasnt pretty. We had the gnocchi with Gorgonzola which was good. We also ordered the truffled mushroom pasta, good but really oily and i could count the number of mushroom slices it contained on 1 hand. For appetizers we ordered the tomato caprese, carpaccio, and the sausage with polenta. They of course called back and said no sausage, what else would you like I left it up to them (mistake). I got the bruscetta as a suprise pick since we already had a tomato dish why not another? The Tomato capresse was the worst. It was exactly 1 small unripe bitter greenish p.o.s of a tomato and a wad of tasteless cheese, but the pesto was good. The carpaccio was basic and drowned in some sort of vinaigrette. It more than likely just did not travel well, but if that is what comes at the restaurant its a sloppy mess of blah, I would have used some bread to sop this up but no! They send 3 dinky ass pieces of bread. For 2 pasta dinners and 3 apps why would you only send 3 dinky pieces of bread?Maybe this was one of those bad days we all tend to have but if it isnt this place is headed south. I found the portions to be very small and this is fine, but I would definitely plan on ordering multiple courses if your hungry. They may even give you some bread if ask.
The Frutti di Mare was unbelievable. Its not on the menu, but I was there with a friend who knew about it. This version features calamari, clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and sea bass tossed in a linguine with light tomatoes sauce. Sounds good, doesnt it? Well, it is. One of the best renditions of this dish Ive ever had; it even trumps many of the trattorias sprinkled along the Southern California and Gulf coasts.great atmosphere, year long...great authentic tuscan cuisine.... a considerate, extensive wine list with a nice corkage policy...great wait staff....an overall pleasure worth repeating many times....i hope success doesnt spoil this operation...one of the best in the town
The food was great. The only reason why this is a 1 star is because they are being racist and requiring high tips for ONLY OTHER RACES. We never had required tip before at this restaurant, and if we did, it shouldnt be more than 20%. But this time, we were forced to tip 30%. Unbelievable. Dont expect me to come back if they are racist.
This was my third visit to NICOLA. This has become one of my favorite restaurants. The service was hands down one of the best I have ever received. We always get the Veal Tonnado. No need for a knife. The Calamari Fritti, Mista salad and Gamberi al Vapore are also amazing apps.Next we had the Spaghetti. You cant go wrong with this. The pasta is fresh homemade daily and cooked al dente. The sauce is delicious. We also have had the meat Ravioli which were out of this world. As a main dish, we have had the Lamb, Sea bass and Cioppino.. no comments....EXCELLENT. Every dish better than the next. They have a fabulous cocktail list and wine list too.The ambiance specially in their PATIO,service and food are all terrific!
I have been here a few times. Unfortunately, my most recent experience will be my last. Though the food was fine (not great), the service was terrible. It took over 20 minutes for our order to be taken and almost 40 for our food to arrive. Received no comments from the staff/owner regarding the delay despite inquiring several times.
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous dinner on the patio, thanks to excellent service by MaryAnn, and impeccable and authentic cuisine. Beef Carpaccio, Veal & Scallops, Duck Ragu Pappardelle, a delicious bottle of wine, and homemade Limoncello. Esparanza and her team never disappoint. If you havent been to Nicolas, you are missing out on one of Columbus hidden gems!
Our group came here for my girlfriends birthday on 11/14/15. The food was some of the best Italian I have had in Columbus, but the owner managed to ruin our evening before we left. One of our guests ordered a rabbit dish with pasta and a red sauce. Each of his first three bites contained bits of cartilage and bone, which he set aside on his bread plate. He politely alerted the server of the issue, who offered him another dish, but he declined. The waitress removed the dish from the table, but returned later to take the evidence from the bread plate back to the kitchen. The rest of the group completed our meals, and the waitress brought the bills. She informed our guest that he would only be charged half the cost of his rabbit dish. However, we all felt that the dish should be comped, considering there was clearly an issue and he barely ate any. After mentioning this displeasure to the waitress, she left and returned with the dish removed from the bill.At this time, we thanked her but also politely expressed our displeasure that that the manager had not visited the table to address the issue. She apologized, and we proceeded to sign our bills and prepare to leave. This is when the manger/owner showed up at the table. One would expect her to be apologetic about our experience, but instead she was very confrontational and rude. This is where everything fell apart. She asked us what we expected from her and said that she was too busy to deal with the situation, because she works from 9am to 9pm. She also said that they only offered half off because the dish was expensive; an expensive dish that no one ate! Then she says that she isnt going to kiss [up to] anyone.Ive run out of room here to describe anything further, but this escalated to her yelling at us and me cursing her out. As good as the food was, I could never support an owner with such contempt for her customers and lack of understanding as to what is customary in the industry.
This place is a waste of money and time the food i thought was ok and for a 30 to 35 dollar plate ok is not acceptable in my book.My server was dressed nice but had no personality very dull I had better service at McDonalds I would never recommend this place to no one I go out a lot and this is not fine dining take my word for it or dont go waste your money on lousy food....2thumbs down my neighbor didnt listen to me and went he said same thing.....place is a joke I see them going out of business soon also I give one star for flowers but I came to eat good food not look at flowers
Another of those hidden gems in Columbus Ohio. I chauffeured clients of my service Luken Limousine to this restaurant and they invited me in for their birthday dinner. Excellent authentic Italian restaurant. Chef Nicola prepares all the dishes himself. His wife greeted us and seated us. The restaurant itself is beautiful with plantings all over the front, a patio and a really nicely laid out interior. The employees look like they actually enjoyed working there and our server was outstanding. They started off with an excellent bottle of Italian wine and I had a nice iced tea. We began with my suggestion of Polpo and another dish of calamari. The octopus and Squid were fresh and perfectly done not chewy or overcooked like every other place you get these things. I asked if they could do the calamari a more traditional way simply sauteed with olive oil and a bit of salt and pepper which they had no problem doing, instead of the light breading which Im sure would have been great as well. Fresh bread and olive oil with Cracked Pepper. I ordered the Filetto di Maiale in Salsa di Fichi Pan seared rosemary and thyme rubbed pork tenderloin, Tuscan faro, cannellini beans & arugula warm salad, fig reduction. The others had the soup of the day which looked excellent, lasagna, risotto which was a huge pile mixed with pulled short ribs, daily special fresh fish and a fresh sea scallop dish that looked outstanding. The scallops were wrapped in prosciutto ham which is probably more expensive than the scallops!I had espresso and ordered cannolis after and could not resist the corny line telling the waitress leave the gun take the cannolis. She said almost everybody does that which is pretty silly. The others tried the gelato and an ice cream cake that is literally called brick in Italian. The espresso was perfect whereas most places dont really understand how to make it. The cannolis were actually three separate pieces which I shared also fantastic. The chef sent out a round of limoncellos which were perfect. An Italian aperitif creamy and authentic. All in all an excellent experience and as I said one of those rare gems which I strongly urge everyone to try. You could easily miss it as its in one of those tiny strip malls just south of Henderson Road on Reed.

2022-08-12They did such a great job creating the atmosphere, you can’t tell you’re right next to a busy road or that the parking lot is right next to their outside area! The patio is surrounded by trees and flowers, umbrellas! The string lights are a cherry on top! Service was amazing and so was the food! You can tell it’s all made from scratch! I had a huge lasagna but it wasn’t heavy!

2022-07-29This was our anniversary and we wanted to celebrate with fine tasting Italian food. This was it! Outside on their patio, sipping a tasty, tart cocktail and a nice Barbera red. We love caprese and adding basil pesto is a keeper. The Tuscan Nido was perfect-handmade and hands down the largest ravioli-the added surprise of an egg yolk hidden inside was genius! The Filetto Di Maiale(pork tenderloin) was perfectly cooked and the flavor was mouth watering, even as I ate it! We wrapped it up with their lemon cake. Oh, man, so light and lemony. We took smaller and smaller bites so it would last longer. Give them a go, we’ll certainly be back!

2022-05-18I had the pleasure of working with this venue for a wedding recently and cannot say enough good things about them. Staff was kind, fun, and easy to work with. All of the wine, appetizers, food, and desserts were delicious and came out SO fast. This venue was one of the best I have been to so far. Extremely smooth and quick with room transitions and cleanup, and extremely accommodating of guests. I would recommend this place for any event!

2022-01-30Ill be honest I havent eaten at Nicolas restaurant in many years. As I remember it, it was delicious then and after so long I was delighted and surprised to find it just as amazing. Their wine list is still well stocked, I had a red Bruni and we ended up ordering the whole bottle after the first glass. We started with the calamari, then I ordered a rack of lamb. It was all absolutely delightful. I promise not to wait so long until my next visit.

2022-02-20I really wanted to give 3.5 stars but google doesnt allow that. When in doubt round up, especially for a small mom and pop spot. The people are very nice and the atmosphere was good. The owner came around and checked on us which was a nice touch. The food was pretty good, not great, but I do agree with other comments that the portion size was very small. Rarely do you go to an Italian restaurant where no one leaves with a doggie bag. Also, when you order pasta it should come with a spoon to twirl it, cheese and/or pepper should be on the table or offered, and bread should be on the table at a nice restaurant. The limoncello was clearly straight out of a box and still partially frozen. I wouldnt rush back to this restaurant but i wouldnt be opposed to going if someone else really liked it and wanted to go.

2022-07-17The server in the restaurant are nice and the atmosphere was good. However, The dishes at average level, though the plate size was small and very expensive. there are also much better Italian restaurants out there, I’d skip this place FOR SURE.

2022-07-02After having been to Nicola many times for good though pricey dinners, we decided to have our anniversary meal there tonight. It was a TERRIBLE dining experience. My veal was cold and my partners chicken was undercooked. After having sent the chicken back, the second piece was also undercooked. When we told this to John, our waiter he just said, “we tried”. He was indifferent to annoyed about our concerns from the moment we sat down. This is our last visit to this restaurant.

2022-05-07Celebrated birthdays at Nicola. We each had a different dish and were all satisfied with the quality, deliciousness, and portions. Their lasagna is a huge portion too. All pasta is made in house.

2022-04-10We ate here to celebrate my daughters birthday on Saturday night. This is the 4th time weve eaten here. It is my fault that I didnt ask, but I got stopped from bringing in a cake in, citing some Covid restrictions. All restrictions have been lifted, but OK. The food was Meh. I ordered the Braciole special. I have eaten Braciole many times in my life (including making it myself), and this version was passable at best. I couldnt get over how lumpy the polenta it was served on! Service was slow, though we did not punish our server, we tipped her 30% and with cash.
