I had to rush my very sick dog early Sunday morning after she suddenly started throwing up pure blood. Turns out she had a foreign object stuck in her intestine and was severely dehydrated. The ER doctor and staff were great, as was the surgeon who operated on her that evening. Obviously not anything I would want to go through again, but very grateful for the service and care at MedVet. As to price, of course it is more expensive than a regular vet, but it was open and available at dawn on Sunday. Taking that into account, I believe the cost of emergency care, surgery, and hospitalization was relatively reasonable and they were entirely transparent about it throughout the process.
I brought my black lab in for a seizure and let me just say the girls here went above and beyond for not only me but for him. Heather , Molly , and Mary all made me feel extremely comfortable and calm. These people really truly care about our animals and they also really truly care about how we feel. Veterinarians, vet techs, and the secretaries all do not get enough credit for what they do. I have never been anywhere where they have made me feel like my voice and my opinion matters when it comes to my animal. This is the best place to bring your animal if an emergency ever does happen!
All of the staff were very professional and most of all compassionate I unfortunately had to put my best friend down so he could stop suffering which was the hardest thing Ive ever had to do. But the staff and Dr. were amazing and understanding with my emotions I would never go anywhere else. And were going to start using them as a new veterinarian for our other cats as a result of their professionalism and compassion
Hello. Best service, nicest staff and doctors. Communication was great and as their message says, they want pet owners to feel comfortable taking care of their animals, like they are their own. I truly believe they do! Our girl needed surgery and they helped us navigate the system, answered all our questions, and put us at ease during this stressful time. They forgot to give us some medications to return home with, when I called they took immediate action and fixed the issue. The doctor even called to speak with me about it. The orthopedic team is amazing. I am thankful beyond words for this team of individuals. They do amazing things, including caring for our fur baby. I’m excited to continue to see our girl progress and see what the doc says at the time of rechecks. ❤️ Thank you medvet team!
Everyone from the reception staff to the surgeon we spoke with was incredibly kind. There was no condescension when describing our dogs condition or treatment plan. There was genuine care for my dog from every single person we encountered. Thank you. Kindness goes a long way in such stressful situations.
Took my cat there after she had breathing issues. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They made sure to answer all my questions even if it ment taking 5 more minutes to talk to me. Unfortunately my cat did have to be put down but the vet and staff were so amazing. They really care about their patients and the families. I have 2 other cats and a dog and I will definitely take them here if they are needing medical attention.
While it was not the outcome I had hoped for, MedVet Akron took amazing care if my baby. He originally had a 5% chance to survive, and they gifted me with hope. Unfortunately, love did all it could, as did the doctors and techs...was a miracle, but sadly only for 9 days. They gave me 9 days to learn how lucky I truly was. Thank you Dr Callard for gifting me for 9 more days than we believed we had.
While I feel as though my cat definitely needed his vomiting and dehydration treated immediately and would not have survived until his vet reopened on Monday, they couldn’t find what was wrong with him after some expensive tests and sent him home without a diagnosis, fleas (10 years old and had NEVER had fleas) and a $1500 bill. My vet found the problem in less than 10 mins and confirmed with testing in less than an hour and sent me home with a treatment plan. The staff/techs/docs were friendly at least.
I am not one to leave reviews like I should, but I really felt I needed to for this place! I brought my English Bulldog, Rosie, to Dr. Snowdon for a screw tail surgery. I was extremely nervous going in to it and he was very patient with me. He did a great job explaining the procedure and making sure I understood what would happen and that she was in good hands. I couldn’t be more thankful for him and his staff for their kindness and patience with me and most importantly their care for Rosie. She is doing so well and it turned out great. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome!
We had to take our dog up there for thyroid cancer. After meeting with the once we felt like we made the best decision to bring him there for his surgery and for his follow up with chemo. The staff is very caring and we called up there several time after his surgery. They are there 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Like I said this is the best of the best place to take your pets.
We love the whole Akron MedVet team! Everyone is so nice and friendly and their doctors are top notch! We’ve used their emergency services and follow up with Dr. Crandall with internal medicine. Awesome experience every time and Dr. Crandall has been a literal life saver for our cat! Love that they go over all the details in a way we can understand and are always happy to answer questions! They really do treat each pet like they are their own! Our cat actually looks forward to vet visits because of all the love they give him! Can’t recommend MedVet enough!! They’re just the best!
Our dog had stepped on a thorn the night before and it had gotten extremely swollen/infected and she was in a lot of pain. We just needed an antibiotic and anti- inflammatory (not a doctor, just using common sense) but we were told the doctor couldn’t just look at her paw and call in the prescription for 4-5 hours. As they were telling me this the doctor (who in all fairness was busy) walked by 5 times. We ended up leaving but live close. 2 hours later they called my cell asking where I was. I told them I would be back in 5 minutes and I did. Once we got to the doctor she seemed extremely inconvenienced with us, was rude, and was even more obviously annoyed when we said we would just get our pups meds at our normal pharmacy instead of through them (I’m sure bc of the mark up). I feel awful for the people that have even worse emergencies…I get it’s a money driven business but when people are paying you $122 just to walk in the door maybe at least pretend you care about their pets a tiny bit. Also, consider not driving people away by saying it is a 4-5 hour minimum but then call me 2 hours later asking where I am. Maybe communicate it as “there is probably around a 2 hour wait”. A 3 our gap in time communicated vs actually needed is crazy. I appreciate the fact this place is open when it is for these true “emergencies”, but this is our second time having to go here in the last 5 years and each time it was an awful experience. Unfortunately given the timing of our emergencies we had no other options…
I am very grateful that they were able to help my sick cat. She is doing much better. Everyone I talked to was very polite to be and seemed to have both my and my cats best interest at heart. That said, due to the COVID policies you do a lot of waiting in the car and are separated from your pet, but I understand this is being done for everyones safety so I am not holding this against them. One thing I will say is that taking a pet to the ER is expensive, and I do understand there are reasons for that, but it got to the point where if they did not send my cat home when they did I was going to have to make a very hard decision about trying to save my pet or being able to pay my mortgage and utilities this month and when they started throwing around terms like this can be an expensive test I tried to remain calm but on the inside I was panicking at the prospect of having to refuse my cat care because I couldnt afford it. Unfortunately I could not get hr into a regular ER vet as she got Ill over a holiday weekend followed by a snow storm and availability was limited. I will say this to MedVets credit they were VERY transparent about costs. They did not do any test or treatment without asking me and reviewing the pricing with me first so there was no sticker shock at checkout. It was still expensive but at least I already knew what I was in for because they explained it very well over the phone. Indo not know if they work with pet insurance as I had not yet made a decision on whether to get that for my pet (she is recently adopted and at the time was in good health). If I had it all to do again, I would still take her to MedVet. They did a great job with her and no one else would take her. I called Akron Metro and they told me dont bother, we dont have space now. The only thing that would give me pause about returning is the cost of care, but again, I understand this is an emergency vet and that comes with the territory.
One of the best experiences I have had considering the circumstances. My 13 year old St Bernard, Ella, needed to go to her final resting place and Medvet was there to assist. Even though I was a mess they were there and very supportive. Special thanks to Dr. Wilson and team for being so compassionate.
Great place to take your pet for an emergency! The prices are decently low! The service was pretty quick considering that they are understaffed. I took my cat to 4 places before being recommend to this place because every place seems to be understaffed lately. They did a great job and were very professional. Pretty clean too. They even have a cafe station while you wait. If they can just get more staff their service will be top tier!
MedVet Akron saved our little dog Tini from paralysis and maybe death when about a year ago she suddenly slipped a disc from IVDD. She was paralyzed and in so much pain but thanks to the whole medical team and especially Dr. Proventure doing quick back surgery on her we have our beloved dog back and shes made a full recovery..she runs, walks, and plays again! They called us and updated frequently. One sweet night tech even FaceTimed with us when we called in for an update which was sooo appreciated! Now that shes better she even has become a big sister to our new human baby! Thank you MedVet for taking care of our dog. Even though back surgery is understandably expensive generally speaking, its worth it to have our sweet little dog back in the family!!! Thank you!
I so hate having to come here but when you need emergency care this is where I bring my baby..I only wish we could go in with them!! They really are a very caring hospital..Abbierose went in with hurt back legs..the fitted her with an outfit to help us move her around until she heals which was a great help..
I brought in my 12-year-old cat Toki in for concerns of chronic sneezing. He had a CT, biopsies and nasal flushing all in one day. The receptionists, Dani the RVT and Dr. Brooks were all absolutely wonderful! From making the initial appointment to taking my Toki home, they communicated very well and gave me comfort in knowing my baby was taken care of. Thank you all for what you do, he is happy and resting comfortably!
By far the best ER ive ever been too I wish human hospitals were just as nice. These ladys were so kind and gentle and really took my little kitten into there arms as if it was there own pet. Then called me two days later to see how she was doing. If I could give more then 5 stars I would. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Took such kind and attentive care to our pup who recently showed signs of elbow displaysia. The surgeon was clear and kind with his explanations/diagnosis and nurses and staff super kind and thorough the entire time. Thoughtful covid-19 system that also made entering/exiting with a hurt or nervous dog easy for all.
If I could give zero, I would.Took our dog, who couldnt walk. Had to drop her off because facility closed off to parents because of covid (I get it). They called and said to come get her.Picked her up, no answers as to whats wrong. Take her home, give her these meds, and tell us if she improves. I called back to see if they gave her meds while she was there, put on hold for 15 minutes for someone to find out? If not improved, upwards of $5000 for tests and such.$170 to have her babysat for a few hours. I could have watched her myself for nothing.
I cannot express how grateful I am to this organization and its members. We took my beloved doggie there when she was severely ill. She was quite unwell and the employees there were comforting, patient, and kind. After bloodwork, it became apparent that my dog Sophia would not live a full, happy, or healthy life much longer. Although heartbreaking, our vet, Dr. Losey was deeply empathetic. She calmly discussed treatments and options, but was completely honest in her assessment. Unfortunately, treatment would only buy our four legged friend a few more months if we were lucky and our vet helped us put her to sleep in an area surrounded by her loved ones. Following this loss, Dr. Losey sent us a condolence card with several laminated copies of Sophias pawprint, a clipping of her hair, and her sincerest condolences. For anyone who needs an emergency vet, I highly recommend this location. We were there 4+ hours crying, weighing options, and saying goodbye to our beloved pet. And no matter what, the staff was so kind and sympathetic. It made the whole process so much more bearable. Thank you MedVet for helping our furry friend until the very end.
Dr Davis and his team took excellent care of our Black Lab, Mason, who had torn his meniscus and ACL (CCL). Communication was clear and recurring throughout the whole experience. Everyone we encountered was patient, friendly, and answered all our questions. Our happy, active, energetic hunting dog is now on the road to recovery!
I waited 4 hours at metro hospital and still wasnt able to be seen. MedVet put this sweetheart right in and in less than a week she looks and acts as if it was just a dream. It was slightly more costly, however the quickness and compassion easily made that margin up for me. Both hospitals asked where I found her in hopes of saving more kittens which I thought was a very kind extra step.
I must have caught them on several bad days. This was the most cold experience I have ever had with vets and vet techs. My dog of 6 1/2 was diagnosed with mega esophagus by my vet. When he wasn’t able to keep food or fluid down for several days I took him there during the week after being there on the weekend and told he was not “critical” enough to be seen. He was regurgitating huge amounts of saliva. Like cup fulls. Needless to say I was back 2 days later. Dr. Cohan saw him and basically said there was nothing they could do and shrugged her shoulders saying your just going to have to deal with it. Very little explanation except to tell me there was a 1% chance he had myasthenia gravis which is inaccurate(25%). I went ahead and got the lab test to see if he had it and after calling multiple times to speak to her I have been completely ignored. She has never returned my calls and it has been 10 days. Poor bedside manner and completely no compassion or caring of the outcome of his death. She is inconsiderate and down right rude to not return calls as I would like to be able to let the people know we got him from. Working with people in stressful times takes a special person and she just doesn’t have it. I would never entrust my pet’s life to them and am sorry I couldn’t find anywhere else.
My dog Coby had a bi-lateral (both back legs) CCL surgery. Dr. Callard did a wonderful job! He was transparent and great to work with the entire way. If I could give 10 stars, I would. The procedure was expensive, but I feel like it was some of the best money Ive ever spent. Before the surgery my dog could barely walk and never wagged his tail. We are now 8 weeks after the surgery and he runs full speed and jumps (probably better than before he blew his knees out), he also frequently wags his tail now. Its one of the few times in my life that I feel like I have witnessed something miraculous!
Although I had to say goodbye to my sweet girl, I had the best experience with MedVet Akron and I highly recommend them. This is was an excellent ER! The staff was kind, caring, transparent, and the rationale behind everything they did was explained to me. They made me and my girl comfortable as she crossed the rainbow bridge. ~ Pumpkin Pie, 04/15/06 - 05/19/21 ~
Dont go here unless you have 10s of thousands of dollars. They want all the money up front and will not do anything if you do not have enough. (Even if your pet is dying). Walk ins will wait 3+ plus hours to have your pet seen. Exotic pets are 10xs as expensive just to walk in the door. Go to your local vet if your able and save yourself the hassle.
We are extremely pleased with the surgery Dr. Snowdon performed on our dog. He and his team communicated clearly. They told us what they were going to do, when they were going to call. They called as they said they would and answered all the follow up questions we had.Thank you to Dr. Snowdon and the entire MedVet Akron team for helping make a stressful time seem smooth and uneventful.
They literally saved this foster dogs life! Ronan was there from Tuesday-Friday and from what I can observe they took excellent care of him! He had surgery to remove infected abscesses around his prostate. He was critical Tuesday and the quickly brought him back around to stable by Wednesday morning. Surgery was done Thursday morning and he was also neutered at the same time to prevent reoccurring. I would highly recommend them as they are extremely professional and talented surgeon and staff! Thanks to them Ronan will live a long loving life with a loving forever home!
I wouldnt be able to say enough wonderful things about MedVets Akron if I wrote a novel. The staff/ nurses/Drs are ALL exceptional & caring & compassionate. I will never go to another vet again. Not only are they an emergency, but they have regular appts available as well...the ONLY downfall which REALLY isnt because if you have a heart, youll understand..if another emergency comes in after you that is more severe or life threatening, you get bumped back a little...but, thats ok, it is TOTALLY understandable. Love these ladies... Thank you all so much...
Horrible experience. Vet techs are extremely rude & incompetent. DO NOT take your animal here if you are looking for compassion, they wasted my time, money, and cost me my dogs life!! They use your vulnerability as a tool to make money. If I could give negative stars I would.
Waited over 7 hours. Till we had to leave. Their all smiles. Came for dog care not smiles. Shame on them.Your staff, told everyone it was because of staffing problems. So either the employees are told to lie, or corporate bs after the facts. Either way, this place is not to be trusted.
Took my Luci in a couple weeks ago with breathing issues. It took FOREVERRRRR for her to be seen, but it was also a crazy day for them (they did keep in contact the entire time to let me know the status). I was pleased that depending on the issue, they see your pet right away to be sure theyre stable before putting them in line. With breathing issues, they did just that: confirmed it was OK for her to wait, and also gave her oxygen for good measure, given her respiratory rate. It turns out she has a pretty serious condition and I went from knowing she had breathing issues, to a list of possible conditions and euthanasia being offered as an option. Obviously I was in shock and that last option didnt help, but the ER doctor seemed to genuinely care and didnt rush me off the phone as I asked him for a little time to process what he said and collect myself. He went on to discuss if its the rare condition that was unlikely, they have surgeons who are very good and would increase chances of survival and even took more time to explain how much it could cost and possible finance options to consider (hes the Dr, definitely didnt need to take his time explaining that to me, but he did). I went ahead with X-ray, ultrasound, bloodwork, and a chest tap to remove fluid. I decided to go forward with surgical consult (he offered to speak with the surgeons personally to see if they could get me in as soon as possible). Following initial evaluation of fluid drawn by the doctor, he guessed it was actually the rare condition, chylothorax; fluid analysis confirmed.Fast forward to the surgical consult with Dr Davis, I couldnt be happier! Although the CT was down and we couldnt go forward with any treatment as a result, he evaluated Luci, checked the fluid in her chest to be sure waiting a little longer was safe (along with offering to remove any fluid if needed), and went thru the surgical procedure in minute detail. I had questions as well based on research I did on the condition to understand what Im dealing with, and our discussion made me a LOT more comfortable with deciding to go forward. Dr Davis said in the time leading up to the surgery, Im free to contact him with any questions or concerns. Also shout out to Melissa (I think his surgical tech??) for keeping in contact with me as we tried to figure out options with the CT being down for a while.None of this will be cheap, but most importantly, I know my kitty will be in good hands ❤
Our kitten Fikiri got his foot caught in something at our house, needed an emergency vet, these kind doctors took great care of our little boy and everyone was super nice and very professional, from check-in to discharge we were kept notified of every step in his care while here. And they even put a heart on his splint.....Thanks so very much....!!!!
Weve had our cats here a couple times and one of our dogs here when he decided to eat half of a tennis ball.My wife and I rushed our cat Willow to MedVet in Akron because she sliced her leg open on a piece of shattered glass, tearing the muscle underneath (we found out about the muscle later - we originally just saw the cut). We called on our way and they put Willow on the emergency list so she could be taken care of as soon as we got there. We got to MedVet around 7:45/8 PM and they did a quick visual assessment to see if Willow was stable enough to sit in the waiting room with us (both the vet tech and ourselves determined she was). Within 10 minutes we were in a room with a vet tech who examined Willow. Willow was bleeding more than she originally was when we got to MedVet so they immediately took her into the back to start working on her.Although Willows condition was serious it was not life or death. During our time in the waiting room that night, around 10 people came rushing in with their pets who were having more serious health problems (seizures, couldnt breathe, fainting, etc.). MedVet continued to monitor Willow to make sure she was stable and they stopped the bleeding while they attended to the more serious animals to make sure they were stable before they could get to Willow. MedVets ER center is similar to a human ER center. They are constantly updating a priority list of animals, to attend to the more critical life or death cases while they work on attending the less serious issues at the same time. Let me make it clear that they were NOT ignoring Willow or any other animal during the time we were there. They have a limited amount of staff but I felt like they were professional and doing everything that they could to take care of Willow and the other animals in a safe, professional, and timely matter. Every staff member, from the receptionists to the vet techs and doctors worked together to attend to the animals and their owners. Staff were constantly coming out to update owners while they attended to the animals. Its scary and heartbreaking when something happens to one of your animals and MedVet always takes care of them. While we were waiting MedVet provided us with phone chargers, coffee and tea, and even though they were busy the receptionist made time to go back and see how Willow was doing. I really appreciated this because we were terrified that Willow wouldnt make it. We were worried about Willow but the way they handled the situation made us feel more calm and confident in Willows surgery, recovery and MedVet altogether.Around 11 PM the vet tech came out and told us that Willow was stitched up and ready to go home. She went over all of the paperwork with us, the medicine and treatment that Willow was given during the surgery, and what medicine she was sending home with us. The vet also sent us home with a free surgery cone to help Willow not pick at her wound. Willow decided to destroy her surgery cone, but what can you expect?I would not hesitate to bring Willow or any of my other animals to MedVet in a case of emergency. They handled Willow and every other animal that came rushing in, in a professional and timely manner. MedVet truly does care about our animals.
This is a review for my little girl. She passed away November 20th in Medvet’s “care”.I will say, Dr. Callard was an amazing surgeon. He performed a surgery because she had a colonic torsion (twisted colon). He met with us before the surgery, told us what he was going to do, and how serious the issue was. The surgery was successful, we were told she should live a normal life if she recovers. We had 2 follow up X-rays to make sure everything was sitting as it should be, and everything was great.Cost: $5,700.2 months later, she’s throwing up, has diarrhea, etc. We take her to Medvet, and meet with Dr. Brooks. They run every test they have. Bloodwork, tested her for Addisons, EPI, etc. Everything came back fine, so they decided she probably has a food allergy. She was prescribed a special diet and should be good to go.Cost: $2,400.4 weeks later she’s we go through a drive through by the house on the way home to grab a few drinks, and she eats a few milk bone treats. Once we get home about 5 minutes later she throws up 3 times in the yard. We thought maybe the milk bone treats messing with her food allergies. We put her on a fasting period and give her some Cerenia to help with the vomiting. She seems to be doing OK, but the next day she seemed somewhat lethargic. I check her gums and notice that they’re a light grayish color. I panic and we take her to Stow Kent Animal Hospital. Dr Paroff checks her out and says that her gums felt somewhat tacky, and so they gave her fluids and a Cerenia injection to help with the vomiting. Around 5AM she throws up. We take her back to Dr. Paroff who was so kind to come in early and meet us before any of her appointments. She says her gums look worse than they did before, they do X-rays, and she says she noticed fluid in her abdomen, as well as some swelling in either her colon, or her small intestine. She refers us to Medvet. We arrive at Medvet and Dr. Garr tells us she sees no issues with her X-rays, and they’re going to do ultrasounds. She says her gums look fine (keep in mind, her gums are light black at this point, they used to be pink). She gave some attitude towards us, and tells us that there’s nothing to worry about, and she doesn’t believe there’s any fluid because the X-rays can’t be trusted because she’s a skinny dog. We leave her overnight per her recommendation. I’m crying in the middle of the consultation and she’s blowing it all off.We get a call at 6AM telling us that our dog went into cardiac arrest. She’s currently on machines breathing for her. She’s not responsive I am told she has a 1% chance of survival. Less than 24 hours ago I was told she’d be completely fine, and she just “felt like crap” according to Dr. Garr. I’m told the surgery will be $3,500 but they don’t know what’s wrong, they need to open her up and figure it out. I get off the phone to wait for the surgeons to come in, which is about 20 minutes. They call me back and the surgeons give her less than a 10% survival rate, and even if she does survive they’re not even sure if she’ll be able to even walk due to the loss of brain function. I make the hard choice to put my little girl down. They tell me that I need to go on hold to confirm with one of the techs my wishes. As I’m crying telling them to put her down, they respond quickly with “OK, someone will reach out to you with arrangements” and immediately hung up on me.Cost: $1910This would be a completely different situation if she were 10+ years old. She was one year, and a month old. She passed away November 20th, of 2019. She was born October 13th of 2018. Yes, she had issues, but I 100% believe that if I had taken her to a different veterinarian off she would still be alive. Dr Garr - if you ever read this review, please know that every night I go to sleep, I blame you that my little girl passed away under your incompetent care. You need to resign. I will never take any of my animals to Medvet ever again.I included a picture of my beautiful girl so you can have a reminder of the face that was robbed from me.
All the staff is super friendly. Due to covid the tech will come out to your car. Cannot go inside with pet... not sure if that is policy with all emergency services. The girl that answers phones is so courteous. My dog was seen for picture wounds from possible racoons in our back property. We also had them hospitalized for monitoring her breathing and IV therapy. Dr. Smith always called at end of her shift to give us updates. I highly recommend this vet hospital!
My dog recently had a mast cell tumor removed. Over the holiday weekend the the wound partially opened up and became infected. I called to discuss the situation and the insisted that I send photos to them before coming in despite describing her recent medical history in detail and describing the wound. This clinic is over an hour away and I was already driving there. The wound was bleeding and exposed. They insisted that I stop, take pictures, and wait before proceeding. I took a photo and emailed it as instructed. They called ten minutes later and advised that I not make the trip, saying they would likely refuse service if I showed up.I took her to our vet this morning. She required antibiotics to treat infection and staples to close the wound back. The issues was serious, as I said it was. I wont consider this clinic again. They dont listen and they did not take pets health into consideration.
I had a mixed experience with Akron Medvet. I brought in my 5YO Great Pyrenees for IMHA. My vet had advised her to be admitted to the Medvet ER for monitoring and possibly a transfusion. It was Friday 7/2, and finding weekend vet care over the holiday didn’t give me many options. The facility was not completely prepared to handle the case. The ER staff was there for her care but the internal medicine specialist was not. Unfortunately, the transfusion was unsuccessful and we opted to let her go peacefully.Akron Medvet provides a service for all of the area vets who no longer staff the weekends or bear the liability burden of caring for sick animals with minimal staffing. They fill an unfortunate gap in care at a premium price for all loving, caring pet owners who are faced with heart-wrenching situations at inopportune times. The staff is pleasant but not overly compassionate ( hopefully that is a coping mechanism and not their usual state). I will likely explore a different facility if an emergency need arises in the future.
Brought our sweet Pomeranian puppy in when he fell off the couch and fractured his leg. Everyone was so caring and thorough I felt confident my puppy was in great hands. Prices were very reasonable for being an emergency provider. We really appreciate their good work!
The staff at MedVet was wonderful. They came out to get our dog in a short period of time. They assured us Rocky was in the best of hands. We were able to pick him up later that evening in good shape. For having been an emergency, the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend using their services and putting your complete trust in a talented, compassionate group of awesome people.
Rogers story continued, As I had to edit the original review for space limitations and the team at medvet has reached out in a public platform to appear interested in making something right here I am to call out your B.S. I have emailed billing twice requesting a review of this case. No reply. Our local vet has emailed requesting probono on time incurred due to noncompliance with original work to be performed (that you refused initially). You have my address, my cell, my wifes cell, my email, my wifes email and the referring vets contact information. You never had an issue calling me for the two deposits I provided. You should now have the credit card dispute I opened requesting a portion of the bill be adjusted. So please medvet feel free at any point to do anything right instead of showing face to appear good hearted. STEP UP!
Rogers story-Roger is a 2 ½ yr old German shorthair pointer. Roger had gotten into some trash (6-26-21) and ate some aluminum foil, by mid week I knew something wasn’t right and got him to our vet Dr Scott Johns on Thurs (7-1-21) It was confirmed a FB was indeed stuck but not blocking but clearly time was of the essence. An endoscopy to remove was the diagnosis from radiology and Dr Scott agreed. He then found an emergency hospital for us that had an endoscope technician available for Saturday (7-3-21) and sent all pertinent information via email with his referral. We arrived at Medvet in Akron around 12 noon Saturday. Dr Griffith requested another set of xrays and we consented. Results were granules in the stomach and the endoscope tech simply refused to scope roger as we were told there was no medical reason to do so. We were flabbergasted that the scope was refused to be done but respected a second (third) opinion. We then consented to a tick borne disease test and pancreas test. Both came back normal. At this point Dr. Griffith asked to do another set of xrays. We declined and requested an ultrasound or scope as that’s what we were there for to begin with. I questioned Dr Griffith as to what harm could be done by scoping as at this point 9 xrays show something is in there. It seemed as if all the chips were on pancreas and no other option when that came back ok there was nothing else to do but xrays which was ridiculous. Not having someone to do an ultrasound was ridiculous..Sunday-Dr Scott has been with this all along and had placed a call to speak with the medical supervisor. Dr vogt informed dr scott they now believed that roger may have a tear in his intestine and that is causing the infection. We were never told this, now knowing the state roger was in by not eating for several days I consented to surgery. I contacted the hospital 3 times during the day to see if roger was on the schedule and when it would happen I never received an answer. Monday-Dr Smith called and requested to do an ultrasound before surgery we consented. It came back ok but they wanted a better one so I consented. Nothing was found wrong in his intestine. We were given the options of surgery or unbelievably endoscope. At this point I have zero faith in an inept person with an attitude performing a procedure on my pet that should of been done days ago. Surgery was finally performed midday and a ball of grass was removed. (Yes it likely would have been successfully scoped out) Roger was stable. Tuesday- No antibiotics were sent home and we questioned that. Dr davis the surgeon felt unnecessary. We contacted dr scott and we were told to keep a close eye on roger as that seemed wrong. When doing discharge & seeing the final bill we told them we will dispute this. Roger seemed as well as he could and ate a handful of rice & burger and was drinking water. Thursday- temperature has gone to 103. New round of antibiotics, Roger has lost 20# at this point & is starting to decline rapidly. ate a little drank a little fever down to 101.8 @9pmTuesday 7/13/21-The new antibiotics did nothing in fact his white count was higher today. Decision was made to stop his suffering. Now to the disgust I feel. At what point does an animal have to suffer because of somebody’s ego? Roger was forced to agonizingly wait while unneeded testing was done for DAYS. All the humans involved were forced to go through Days of unneeded anxiety due to one person not doing their job. At what point is that behavior unethical? To the endoscope technician (I would appreciate a name greatly)-If you have any sense of right and wrong I have a bill that is far higher than it ever should have been and welcome you to step up and make it right. We have all suffered mentally, physically and emotionally for days due to your callous disregard for other professionals and their assessments. I strongly encourage you to step away from the medical field and go earn a living where you can not induce suffering at such a scale.
Absolutely worse pet hospital Ive ever been to. We take our little kitten there because he was obviously sick. Hed lost a lot of weight and wouldnt eat anything. The vet looked at him and said that they couldnt see anything wrong with him. They said they could do x-rays and blood work but it would be expensive and just recommended waiting a few days to see if he got better.A few days later my kitten couldnt even walk and was meowing painfully all day. Took him back and they said I could pay them $5,000 to maybe save him with surgery, or $1,000 to put him down. They dont care about your pets here. Theyre ok with your pets getting really sick and in pain if it makes them more money. My poor kitten was a week away from his first birthday and I still get sad thinking about him to this day.Unless you have no other option, take your pet anywhere else but here. Theyre just going to let them suffer so that they can make more money off of them.
I accidentally called THE OTHER ER vet. They only asked if it was critical and said 6 to 8 hour wait. No medication advise nothing. So went I called MED VET they were great. Actually see a specialist there. But they looked her up in computer, asked the vet on duty and called back with advise, medication info, and offered to see her even though they were full..thank you so much. My vet no longer has 24 her service. Med vet was great. Thank you❤
They are so far out of COVID protocol its laughable. They keep you away from your dieing pets because of COVID. They do let you in at the end to spend time with your pet meanwhile no one there is wearing any masks..... until the doctor comes around fully gowned, gloved, masked as if they are going to a gas chamber. The IV connected to your pet has to be stretched to the hallway outside of your room so they can practice social distancing all the while no one is practicing any COVID related measures except the Dr. Keeping you away from your dieing pet is the part that is so upsetting for the sherade from the doctor is a joke. Save yourself the anguish and go somewhere that cares.
It was my first time here and the staff here are amazing. My dog had a seizure this morning, I called them they answered immediately and told me I can bring him in. I got there and they came out fast, it does stink I cant go in but it is understandable. they are quick to answer any questions you have and are honest about the services needed and how much they will be. 10/10 fingers crosses I dont have to come back with an emergency but if I do this is where I will be going.
The entire staff there was very professional and very patient. Unfortunately, there was nothing that we could do for my precious dog. Euthanasia was our only option at that time. They took their time, explained everything to us, and let us have special time with our pet before that time came. I thank them so much for their compassion and understanding. Also for their professionalism and patience.
Recently my dog had become very sick out of the blue. Was not acting like himself and ultimately started having seizures. MedVet was able to work with him to get MRI scans to diagnose him. Unfortunately he had an inoperable progressed brain tumor. It was comforting to have this information and know there was nothing I could have done to save him. If he would have passed for unknown reasons I would have beat myself up for not knowing why. While I am grateful for their help I am also upset about the current COVID policy the hospital has. You can only come inside you you are euthanizing your pet or if they passed during hospital care. I think it is cruel to not allow people to see their pets who have an extended stay and are in critical condition, exceptions should be made. The day I dropped my dog off for testing was the last day I ever saw him alive. His last 3 days he was alone and probably afraid without me by his side. This is horrific for people and animals to experience and they need to seriously rethink this policy and the emotional trauma it causes. People should not have to choose between life saving care of their pet or being able to see them for the last time alive. There is no compassion with this policy. Prepare yourself if you are in a similar situation.***reply to MedVet response: so it’s was safe for me to come inside to see my dead pet but it would not have been safe to go in and see him when he was alive? No validity to this policy. No compassion. You don’t think anything was wrong with these actions and you stand by this policy.***
This was my first time coming here. Four weeks ago my cat passed away from old age, possible cancer. After $2500+ in vet bills and losing my baby life has not been easy. Someone gifted me with lilies. I should have thrown them away knowing how poisonous they are to cats. I still have my cat Arnie. I kept the flowers in a vase in the kitchen. I decided to take them out yesterday and put them out of Arnie’s reach, so I thought. He ended up eating the leaves. Not the actual flower. He vomited the leaves and had pollen on his face. I called poison control, opened a case, and brought him to MedVet. The experience was wonderful until they told me it would be anywhere from $1800-$2400 to treat Arnie. Being that I just spent so much money on my other cat I unfortunately do not have the funds to treat Arnie. I told them I couldn’t afford treatment. The doctor asked what I could do. I said around $500. She was like ok let me give you call back. I decided not to go through with any treatment being that even $500 was out of range after checking my credit card. I called back and whomever I spoke with had an attitude. As if she was upset with me for not getting him treated. Hung up the phone without even saying goodbye and had a terrible attitude. Like excuse me? You’re upset!? Lady I’m more upset than you I promise. I’m grieving my other cat and just found out that not only can I not afford to have Arnie treated, he might be dead in the morning or in 48 hours. I am so disgusted with how I was treated once I expressed that I couldn’t afford for Arnie to be treated. Do not recommend…
Our dog graduated from his recovery yesterday. He had surgery for a ruptured spinal cord last month. Dr. Provencher was the neurologist who performed the surgery. She and the other staff members were nothing but friendly and helpful during such a hard time. It was quite expensive but worth it for the care and service they provided. We would not hesitate to return if we ever ran into any future emergency situations.
Had to bring our cat here for an emergency on a Saturday. They took good care of her, but the price was exorbitant and they failed to give us our after care instructions. We received a call from someone the next day, and our cats after care instructions had been stapled to her pets by mistake. Thankful she was nice enough to call and read them to us, but our personal information was given out to a stranger by Medvet. Glad that the person that got them was an honest person and good Samaritan.
We always used to go to the other emergency vet nearby to this one, but a bad experience there forced us to look elsewhere and we found MedVet. We have used them for 3 kitties now and I wouldnt hesitate to take kitties there in the future. Our most recent experience involved my 6 month old kitten being admitted (a first) and she was there for 4 days. They left the choice to me, take her home and care for her or admit her. I never felt pressure to admit her but I felt it was best. I received phone call updates twice a day. They were very forthcoming with the updates and transparent with cost. She has completely bounced back so I am very pleased with the care she received.
My yellow lab was coughing up blood so I took her to MedVet at 4 AM on Sunday. Due to protocol, I had to wait in my car, but they came out quickly to get my dog. They were friendly with me and my pet. They took X-rays and unfortunately found her lungs full of nodules. I talked to the vet by phone from my car, and she laid out my options with compassion. They took 5 X-rays of her lungs, so I wish they had x-rayed her tummy (where the source tumor might be) while they were there, but they did not. Anyway, they were nice and competent and responsive.
Dr. Garr at Medvet was absolutely amazing to work with. She listened to my concerns and didnt judge when I asked about pricing or other options / tests. She explained everything that was found and what our next course of action should be. She explained everything in detail. She made me feel at ease leaving my pet there to be treated. I would recommend this hospital and Dr. Garr.
Thank you. I cannot express the amount of gratitude my husband and I have for this clinic. We, unfortunately, had to make the decision to put our dog down last night. She was 16.5 years old, we knew it was getting close to end. We tried to make appointments at several different vet offices but no one could take her. Then in a matter of hours, she started showing a severe decline to the point she could not even stand up.We knew it was time. We called MedVet, Lola answered. Lola is an absolute sweetheart. She guided me through all our options and told us to call when we were coming. Lola continued to help us by checking us in and out while we were in the parking lot. The vet tech who explained everything was a comfort and sweetheart as well. Even the vet was comforting to us. We appreciate everything you have done for our dog. We know she is now resting without anymore pain.
The staff at Med Vet were extremely compassionate when working with my cat (Pebbles). She unfortunately passed away during this visit, however, each staff member made this loss just a little bit easier. I highly recommend this emergency room as they cared for my little one as if she was their own.
These people are amazing, especially being a very worried owners. They kept us up to date on everything that was going on with our dog. If we had any worries they told us to call them and they would update us. Truly amazing and very professional staff. With their second opinion our fur baby did not need surgery! Such a relief. Definitely would recommend.
My dog come up sick we went to medvet 3:00am sat in parking lot for 2 hrs and they called said my dog was doing good she was standing up by here self now when I have taking her they she was running a temp of 106 and she could not stand up after getting blood tests and exray at 780. Dollars they bring her out and she was carried out was not walking told us they will check on her in 3 days she should be ok .Then took her home payed not even 24 hrs she die could not breath they didnt even tell me that she was not going to make it or we would have put her down so she didnt suffer they only want your money they dont care about you or youre pet they lied to us
Unfortunately had to utilize their service but, the staff was great, caring, and very respectful to our needs and those of our 4 legged child. I am very thankful to MedVet after being turned down by 7 other vets in my local area. It is truly the most difficult thing you have to do but, everyone was awesome! I just went and picked up our urn and it was gorgeous. Our boy is home again! Thank you to all the staff for being so caring and understanding, it was a very difficult time for us and your staff made it more bearable. Thank you. Highly reccomend.

2021-11-17My Leo is home happy and healthy. I brought him in on a Sunday night around 3 in the morning after I had called medvet and the lady on the phone immediately diagnosed him before I even explained what all was going on. My poor baby was in so much pain and after a 40 minute drive they got him in immediately. They let me know the price up front and were very kind and compassionate. Although expensive it was worth it to save my baby. He’s only 4 years old and had a urinary blockage. The closer emergency vet that I called had told me there was a 5 to 10 hour wait which I’m sure by then my kitty would have passed. I am so appreciative of med vet and how well they took care of my child. They called multiple times a day to keep me updated and I also got to go in and visit him. He was there for 3 days and I knew what was happening all three days. After he was released they gave me all of his post care instructions and medications and I felt safe. This place is really amazing and they made me and my baby feel safe. They saved him and made him feel as comfortable as he could. He is home now and eating so much food and peeing a lot. I’m so happy he’s okay. I hope this never happens again. Thank you medvet.

2022-05-19My corgi Sam was bit on his back by a much bigger dog on a Sunday afternoon. It was really scary and he was bleeding but we couldn’t see much of the damage. We called the stark county emergency vet and they didn’t have any room to even observe him. So we went to MedVet and they were able to house him immediately to make sure he was okay. It was a long wait until he was able to see the vet. Sam needed staples and stitches. He was seen by Dr Kacey cohen and I’m very thankful for her and the MedVet team for taking care of Sam. The price was reasonable. He has recovered well and did not have any complications from the attack. All his hair has grown back too!

2022-06-04Just like a human ER we did have a wait, which everyone needs to understand. Our dog is our child; so we were very stressed. The staff was great, very friendly. Our vet answered all our questions and made us feel comfortable going home with our fur baby. The staff also made sure we understood the medication instructions and to call if we had any questions. Hopefully we don’t have any more trips to the ER but if we do it will be to MedVet!

2022-06-24This is my Mikey, he was 11 years old. He meant everything to our family! We inherited him from my mother in law several years ago when he was a very different cat. He didnt care for people, always hid when people came over, but after coming to our home he became the most lovable fur baby. He would climb on my lap, knead and lay down and purr so loud you could hear him from across the room. He became big brother to my other babies, always cleaning them and laying with them to keep them warm. But he was especially close to our youngest fur baby Pumpkin, our marmalade cat who is blind. Mikey was his seeing eye cat, Pumpkin could always follow him because Mikey walked rather heavily and he could hear him anywhere. And Mikey let him follow, he was very accepting and loving towards Pumpkin and poor Pumpkin has felt his loss more than any of the others. He walks through the house mewing looking for him, he is so lost.We have always tried to take good care of our babies, they are up to date with all their shots and have regular check ups, especially Mikey because of his urinary blockage. He was on a special diet which we followed closely until a recent supply issue prevented us from getting his food. When his issues started to arise again we called his vet and rather than taking the time to see him they deferred Mikeys care to med-vet, knowing that we could never afford it. And sure enough it was going to cost thousands to save him, a cost that was totally unreasonable much akin to price gouging. It is horrible that people are being taken advantage of at an emotional time and I find that greed more motivates these vets more than wanting to help animals because they play on peoples heartstrings knowing that if people could, they would pay anything to save their fur baby. Please do not respond, I do not wish to hear any condolences they ring very hollow and they wont do anything to make us feel better.Mikey is resting peacefully by his big sister Lucy, together again... We miss them both terribly and their loss has left a hole in our family that can never again be filled! 🥺

2022-01-19My lab has now been here twice but this last time was a very long 24 hour visit which is heartbreaking as a pet owner especially with curbside service and not being able to be with your pet. The staff and especially Dr. Wilson were absolutely incredible. Not only am I confident that they treated my pet with great care but the reassurance Dr. Wilson provided was above and beyond. Not only did she provide updates on his care but was totally willing to answer all my questions without making me feel rushed off the phone. I am very pleased with this facility and their staff.

2022-01-14MedVet saw my dog after a seizure this week and I was very happy with Dr. Gontarz. She was very kind and explained everything to me about his condition. She didn’t rush through talking with me about what next steps to take. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost too. I was expecting a high bill with little sympathy from staff and received the exact opposite. The young lady that walked Toby out to me was so sweet and patient as well.Well done everyone!

2022-02-07The day that I had to put my dog down was the hardest day of my life. But taking Zeus to this place was the best decision I ever had. The vet and lady that was in the room with me when they had to put him down made it a little bit easier it was hard because that was my first baby. Ive been dealing with a wide array of emotions because of what I had to do. I would highly recommend this place because they will work with you and thats the only thing I can say about this place is theyre willing to work with somebody who is poor. Even though they deal with Regency crematorium and theyre not willing to work with you the vet does her best to work with you.

2022-06-07My little dog had been seen there 3 different times. They are really great, their interactions, compassion, kindness and timeliness. My little guy was seen on a Friday night after falling, sadly he just couldnt recover and 6 days later, we had to put him down. The compassion by all involved was utterly amazing, its been 2.5 weeks and I am still telling people how kind, empathetic each person was. Approximately 8 days later, I received a handwritten note from the staff and the 2 different vets involved. While I know theres something bigger close by...I would totally recommend MedVet over any other 24 hour center.

2022-06-09Very professional and compassionate staff. My first experience with MedVet was due to the need to unfortunately put my cat to sleep, but I couldn’t have asked for a better place to take her. The vet and the techs were understanding and explained the process the entire way through. I’ll definitely use MedVet for all my veterinary needs going forward.

2021-11-27I would tell everyone to come here for their pets medical needs! No one wanted to operate on my Tana, shell be 15 in February, Dr. Callard did !! He saved my dogs life, I will be eternally grateful to him and of course all of the wonderful staff. Everyone was so caring, they all treated my pet as if she were their own.
