Magnuson Hotel East Sandusky in Sandusky

Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio, US
Very outdated. The bed slept better than I imagined. The table set in our suite should really be tossed because its apparent that it has been soiled many times and the table has build-up in the grooves. Our bathroom door would not close, and the a/c in one room did not work. Staff was nice.
When i just came to front desk smell so bad. But i don’t think rooms are same smell. That smell made me allergy, i felt uncomfortable 5 minuts later in room. The guy reccomended me another room it was same smell too. I did cancellation but they charged half price of that room. I just stay 5 -10 minuts paid half price.
Nice place reasonable rate was close cedar point the staff was friendly. Could use a few fixes was a couple soft spots on the balcony outside the rooms the tub didnt have a drainstop which was a bit disappointing but overall not a bad place would stay ahain and also recommend the morning coffee was delicious
It was a nice place, kinda sketchy area. The whole outside had the most horrible odor of weed filling the air. Which in my opinion was disgusting. None of the vending machines would dispense our change. So we lost out on $5 in change. lol but Id stay again. Staff was very nice and helpful
I have fond memories of this place. We got a room for a week because we were going to be spending most of the time at put in bay. Ended up spending most of the week sipping whiskey and in the pool. Happened to meet the restaurant manager at the pool on the second day and for the rest of the week the food was top notch. Didnt even want to go out to eat because it was so good. The room was actually a living room and a bedroom. TVs in each room. Cleaned every day. The tub didnt have a stopper, but we went to Target for some stuff and bought one and left it. I loved this place.
The location is perfect for those going to Cedar Point. The hotel was clean except the carpets in the hallway looked like they could be deep cleaned. Everyone we met was very nice. My kids enjoyed the pool area. My only negative would be the breakfast, it consisted of coffee and mini donuts. Overall nice hotel at a nice price.
Stayed here twice and never had any real issue. Great staff, rooms are clean, easy check in & out, quiet and pool was nice.Yes there are a few things that need a little work but its also not a 5 star. Great place to crash after a long day at Cedar Point, great location near the causeway. Already booked for Halloweends and ready to book for next Summer!See ya next month!
Although this place had bad reviews, we knew after a day at Cedar Point wed be exhausted. Wanting a place close to the park, they were the only place with vacancies when I called so we decided to give it a try. Check in was very easy, the lobby area was beautiful, the staff was very friendly and the place was very secure. Our room was very clean, no signs of bugs, the beds were comfortable and it was quiet. Very safe and peaceful place to stay. We didnt have any bad experiences, would definitely stay again and highly recommend this place.
If you just need a place to rest your head, cheat on your spouse (kidding... dont do that for real), and shower, then go for it.Our first room housed a couple of large spiders, the coffee pot had coffee still in it with mold floating at the top, paint was peeling off the bathroom walls, and there was some kind of orange substance sprayed on the ceiling. We asked for a new room over the phone... they initially told us they were all booked (literally about 8 cars in the parking lot). When we actually went to the front desk, they gave us a new room... (I thought you were booked)...This one smelled like mildew. We asked if they could spray the room with some kind of air freshener. We were told that the room was cleaned and it couldnt smell like mildew. So I ended up buying carpet freshener myself just to deal with it.But its a nice place otherwise.
Zero stars! Do not stay here! The parking lot is in horrible condition. Went to check in and the lobby is run down. Still keeping a open mind went to our room and was shocked to find it in the condition it was in. Dirty, Dirty! The place is so run down it truly felt like a place people would use to do shady behavior. Beds were Dirty! The pictures on the website are misleading. Pool is in bad shape and dirty as well. I went down to the lobby to inform them that I would not be staying and was treated horribly! They gave me the run. Wanted to charge me for being in the room 5 minutes. Do not stay here. There was shady people in the parking lot they were looking into cars and the smell of weed was all over the place. I felt completely unsafe with my two little girls and will never be back!
This is a pretty nice hotel, its pretty fancy inside, the rooms are fine, housekeeping comes everyday. The biggest attraction obviously being that cedar point is only 5 minutes away by car. Now I would have given this place a higher rating, but on there website they say they have a nice big breakfast in the morning and a pool. This big voluptuous breakfast consists of the following, mini store bought donuts and the pool they advertise was closed, keep in mind people this was in june.
The building overall is extremely dated, its kind of surreal. The front lobby wreaks like a litter box and the building itself is not air conditioned. When we got to our room it was hot and muggy and took a few hours to cool down. No microwave/fridge/breakfast here and the adjoining tavern is not even open. Aside from that the room is clean and the beds are comfy though. Overall it was no where near the worth the price for the stay, you could pay the same amount to stay at a local Holiday Inn instead. Will update review with with pics when we leave.
Just what I expected for the price. The rooms were relatively clean. Not perfect. The bathrooms were clean but old. I heard others complain about the towels and I did have a couple with hair on them but the other towels and bedding were clean. The hotel pool and patio are nice. Maggie the manager is really nice. The location is close enough to Cedar point. The free coffee for breakfast is good. The donuts are not. All in all if you are looking for a decent place at a decent price then this is for you.
Not impressed at all. They make the place look 5 star in the photo’s online. The owners can hardly speak English. Premium pricing for very low budget rooms. Entering the room , A/C was cranking and room smelled musty. Cobwebs on the ceiling, lights not working in bathroom, rooms are very , very outdated, sinks are at least 6” below code, non of the drains worked properly, mold on the ice bucket lid, etc.........Advertised free breakfast; ended up being coffee and donuts and everything was gone by 9 am, basically told us us your S.O.L.I will never stay there again! Could have saved a lot of money and had a much nicer room down the road. Sadly the location is premium, but they put no money into upkeep.
Zero Stars!!! We need a zero stars option for places like this! This is the absolute worst hotel I *tried* to stay in. My daughter and I had brought lunch and wanted to eat at the hotel. We got some stupid looking keys to begin with. It wasnt a card, but some sort of chip system. No big, headed to the room. Walking into the building with our room, I immediately noticed an outdated dirty ice machine. The stairs were old and dirty. And then the carpet through the hall looked stained and old. Our room ended up on the balcony. We got to the room, and an immediate smell gagged us. It was musty and I can best describe the smell as an elderly mans bathroom. The bathroom toilet had rings. There wasnt a Fridge or microwave. The sheets were off-white. The duvet was old, outdated, musty, and scratchy. My daughter and I decided to eat in the courtyard. While there, I decided to cancel my booking and booked at the Hampton instead. This hotel had the vibe of being a rent by the hour type of place. Being here made the Hampton look like a Hyatt. The hotel refused to give a refund and said I needed to contact my booking agent. I contacted the agency and they also had incredible difficulty trying to get the hotel to refund the fee. The hotel had told the company that I hadnt made a complaint (I had), and then that I didnt request a refund (I did). They settled on a quarter of the cost and hotels.com reimbursed the rest. By far, the most disgusting and poor service Ive ever had to experience. Please dont stay here! You can get a much better place for just a little more!
The staff (very friendly) and property layout are excellent, but the rooms need serious updating/remodeling. They need to at least deep clean the carpet and use bleach in the bathrooms to rid the place of mold, if renovating is too expensive. Spraying fragrance only adds to problem and is not a solution to rid the room of odors..Bed was comfortable, but the bed spread had an unusually, unpleasant smell. I was forced to remove it, just to sleep.I wouldnt greatly recommend this hotel, but I its not the worse either. Id still may consider using it again next year...
Free wifi that did not work and called several times. Using my own data to post this. No elevator and did not mention in website. Priced too high for what it is all and all. Bad smell in the rooms and hallway . No food served at the sports tavern even though the website stated it served food. I paid 145.00 for our one night and was ripped off I feel. Felt like a very cheaply ran place. Will never stay here again. Do not recommend, maybe if only 40.00 a night. Outdated and dirty. Not to mention a soft spot on the balcony and water stations.
The room I had was decent for a one night stay. As a housekeeper myself I went through the WHOLE room before bringing in our luggage. For most motels I do this. The bedding was clean and the bathroom was clean. Only downfall this motel was ultimately no breakfast. I do not consider mini donuts and coffee being breakfast. All in all I was very pleased. Personal photos attached.
The location to Cedar Point is amazingly close which is very convenient. I hotel is very outdated and definitely needs a face lift. The room itself was big but kind of dirty. Found a few hairs in the wrapped up towels which was very disgusting. The light bulb in the entry way was missing and the light above the vanity did not work. The service was fine and the food in the restaurant was OK.
In agreement with another rater... meh. Not too bad, but not too good. Clean, for the most part. Nice pool. The a/c in the room they originally put us in didnt work. They moved us right away. The rooms had a smell to them. They need updating; new rugs, new bedspreads, etc. Personnel was friendly.
Manager was nice. There is a bar attached to this hotel, and Saturday night there was an event that brought inconsiderate people who were doing drugs in the parking lot, playing loud music with bass in their cars, and yelling outside in the parking lot right outside my window. The rest of the week was quiet. There are no elevators, so dragging heavy luggage upstairs is very tricky. Located right next to Cedar Point.
After having a horrible experience with Wolf Inn, we stayed here with no notice. They graciously let us view the rooms before we even stayed. They got us two rooms which were remarkably clean. The staff also left us a note offering their condolences for our awful experience at a different hotel and hoped we had a wonderful stay. Very generous and kind staff. The pool was clean and the location is pretty central. Would recommend and will be back for the next Cedar Point trip!
Made reservations it was in her budget her room playing disappointed we couldnt get her refrigerator and very disappointed that their bar wasnt opened I didnt think to ask upon making reservations if they were but we made do by putting more ice in our coolers so the things we did bring would stay cold therefore very friendly and knowledgeable and they work hard I read some of the other reviews and they were just downright nasty my experience was nothing like this my room was actually quite clean no complaints there I just thought with the bar in a pool that would be great to get away from our state and relax but you just make do with what you have and I appreciate all the hard work the staff does would work eat and stay here again if I had to
Okay, before I start this review, I would just like to say, only come here if you NEED just stay somewhere for a night. Now, hear my feelings about the place. We came to this hotel after we had visited Cedar Point, so we had a place to stay for the night when we would go back to Cedar Shores. We come in, the lobby smells of a funeral home. As we walked up the stairs, there was a smell of cigarettes, though there were no smoking signs on every door in the hotel. On a window in the hallway, there was spider webs, something that looks to be bird poop, and other stains. In our room, there was mold in our bathtub. The sink was stained, and a towel I grabbed off the shelf had a stain on it. The beds were comfortable and surprisingly clean, so thats a plus about it, hence why I said only come here if you NEED a place to stay for the night. The room door was hard to open, and there was no sign of room service.
Close to Cedar Point. but no refrigerator or microwave. Staff is friendly. But he said that if I paid for the rooms with cash there would be a$50.00 deposit. The back downstairs door to the parking lot didnt lock when closed. Other than that it was a decent and reasonable place.
The location (not even 5 mins from cedar point) and service were amazing, the staff were very friendly but the hotel is very out dated and old and it smells like it. One of the blankets we had was a fleece blanket. It had long black hairs embedded in it. The beds were comfortable. The free continental breakfast was coffee and little Debbies donuts.
Place is awful. Overpriced for the quality of the room you get. It smells awful, like a bunch of dirty litter boxes in the lobby and the people next door were loud and fighting with each other. My mother found drugs laying in the parking lot. Bugs everywhere. Mold on walls. Place is disgusting. I would pay a little extra to stay somewhere else or sleep in your car. All of the rooms smell like mildew. Their breakfast consists of tiny cups of coffee and little donuts that look like they come from the value boxes of mini donuts at Walmart. Pool is heated. But whether or not its safe to swim in I cant say. I did not enjoy my experience staying here and wont be staying again. Its ideally placed very close to cedar point but I wont mind driving a few extra miles to have my moneys worth.
The worst! The entire hotel smells like a musty wet dog, Our room was gross and smelled of cigars and bad decisions! The night stand light and the door lock were broken and the carpet was wet we had to keep on our shoes. OH and wait for it, the sheets had blood on them! No elevators to the second floor, not cool with a cooler! The pool had so many bugs I thought it was a plague. Bad thing was it was not cheap! Do not stay here folks!
Dirty, very dirty. I am definitely NOT the type to have a low threshold for cleanliness, and I don’t complain at all - but this place is just plain bad. The coffee pot was not clean, I found a comb at the end of the bed, and pool was not cleaned and burned my skin so bad I had to get out after 5 minutes. My guess is they over loaded on chlorine instead of properly cleaning. Anyway, I won’t be staying here again.
The front desk was always very helpful with any needs we had! When walking in we were greeted and made to feel right at home! Room was great! Bed was comfy and soft. A/C worked fantastic! Didnt use the pool because we didnt have time due to our busy schedule. Will definately be looking forward to staying again! Lobby is also beautiful!
The place stinks.. literally like bug chemical spray or something. The phones dont work in the room.. its rather run down and the twin size beds are uncomfortable..Woke up with a nice back ache, hope all the bug spray worked, as long as we dont get lung cancer ..Front desk was pleasant .. The pool was decent, a little foggy...
Great hotel for the price. My wife was looking for a hotel near Cedar Point (for us and our kids). Most places were over $175 a night. She found Magnuson hotel for under $100 (which is located really close to Cedar Point). The hotel is clean, rooms are big, staff is friendly. We werent expecting a world class hotel but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was for the money. Theres a heated pool and game room for the kids. HBO and a restaurant/ bar for the adults. Overall a decent family place.
I stayed for one night. The staff is courteous and the place is clean. They only have double beds which gets kind of tight. Rooms are big enough. They have hbo, although TV in one of the rooms I booked was not working. No breakfast which could be justified through low rates. Very close to cedar point.
We stayed at this hotel for one night after spending the day at Cedar Point. The entire place smells “old” and the rooms are severely outdated/gross feeling. It reminds me more of a sketchy motel. Dingy carpet, very uncomfortable beds, outlets didn’t work in multiple spots and the bathroom was the size of a tiny closet. We also picked up some bed bugs from this place! 2/4 of our friends had multiple bites on them and now we have to deal with the possibility that we brought some back with us. The price is okay for what you pay considering it’s extremely close to CP but beware. Would not stay here again!
First of all, I was told when I got there that my card had declinedand they didnt think they had a room for me. I called previously to ask if they would charge my card. I was told not until I got there. I use a card specifically for travel and put my net on as needed. Why would they charge my card before 9 card before 9 am anyway? I put money in the bank at exactly 9 am. I was told it would be done when I get there! They gave us a room in a small unit building that we thought wasnt even part of the hotel. Infested with spiders and cob webs! Yes, this is the Cleveland Rd location, to be clear! I called and they sent an elderly gentleman with a broom. I called and asked for the manager to come to the room. I was told they would give me another room. It was a little better. Im very unhappy with my experience here. Wake up to little Debbie donuts and mediocre coffee. . I would never choose this hotel again.
We stayed here on 10/22/16. The front desk staff member was friendly but not in a hurry to get off the phone from what seemed to be a personal call. The lobby area is spotless and welcoming. Sadly, when we checked into our room we were greeted by a pungent, heavy musty smell. Its apparent that there has been water damage to the building. The pillows are overstuffed and the beds are fairly squishy (as opposed to a firmer bed). Our stay wasnt entirely unpleasant, but we will consider another location the next time we come to Sandusky for Cedar Point.
Really enjoyed my weekend stay here. Very clean and homely. Amenities are sufficient if you just need a place to rest for Cedar Point as it is only a couple min away. Best part is the free HBO channels! They have a restaurant within the hotel Sportsmans Tavern but there are a couple more restaurants in walking distance from here. They let me check in early for a small fee and early check out, both were a breeze. Also, big props to the friendly desk attendant that tried to help me find a taxi cab at 4 AM. Thank you!
I can only assume that because I got a smoking room that the quality of the room was not important. The room was damp and although the sheets were clean they felt damp. So did the carpet. The room needed a good cleaning INCLUDING the walls. Customer service at front desk was great.
Hotel was decent especially considering the price from Priceline Express. Room was on the small side and the bathroom was outdated but overall it was decent. The pool however was filled with dead bugs floating around and was pretty much unusable. The breakfast was toast, cereal, some fruit and yogurts. Not amazing but was good enough for me.For being a fairly low-end hotel, there are a lot of rules which include dress code for walking through the lobby and to breakfast and a fairly inflexible late checkout time.
Worst place i have ever stayed.. Horrible service. Alarms in empty room started going off at 6am and the funt office said to deal with it. Spots of mold and dead bugs in the corners of the bathroom as well as a hole in the wall, ceiling paint was chiped and falling on the floor, the joined room door wouldnt close an lock. My ice bucket had door hinges rote on the side. Really the only thing this place is missing is the roaches. Wouldnt recommend even if it was the only place on earth. Would rather sleep out in the gutter.
This hotel was very nice, my room was very comfortable for my granddaughter & I. Very clean & the staff was very friendly & polite, we were right next to the pool. We also had a microwave & fridge in the room so I just put food in the fridge for us & heated it up. The game room was a little noisy, but once it was 11pm it was closed which was nice. The water pressure in the room was not good & if you want breakfast this is not the place, they only offer donuts & coffee :( Over all this was a nice place to stay, I will stay again
Room and bathroom were clean and front desk staff were friendly and pleasant. The hotel room doors slammed shut and could hear guest coming and going. Walls were thing and lobby smelled funky, but price was reasonable since it is close to Cedar Point and we were only there to sleep. Location is close to downtown Sandusky and is convenient.
Nice clean bed and good customer service however the smoking rooms were separate from the actual hotel. The rooms were damp, had a moisture in them, the walls had hand prints and dirt on them. Outdated other than a flat screen TV, no place to keep beverages cold and was not informed of where ice was available. The hotel was beautiful, its sad that just bc I smoke I didnt get to enjoy it.
We were given a room with a ceiling that clearly had water damage and the room smelled so bad of mildew and I hope we werent exposed to black mold. Severely disappointed when we saw such good reviews . Oh and then found the bedding hadnt actually been changed because it had hair in it that did not belong to me in it. Staff was courteous. That was the only good thing.
If you like filthy walls, black mold, blood stains on your bed sheets, disgusting carpets and furniture, several species of bugs and horrific odors that you can not describe, THEN THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU-!!!!As you walk into the lobby, you will catch a lovely whiff of musty mildew and 20 dirty litter boxes. You will check in anyway because the tile on the floor is pretty, it’s extremely late, and you need a place to sleep. You’ve read the reviews online and think “oh c’mon, it can’t be that bad”, and decide to give it a go. As you walk to your room, through the parking lot, you begin to notice how it has more of a “3 hour special” motel rather than a Hotel, complete with a group of hoodlums carrying on with their very own “fight club” right outside your bedroom door. You open your door and it only gets WORSE. You child starts to gag and cough from the odor. You can almost feel your lungs fill with spores from the unimaginable. The air conditioner is pumping more stagnant smells into the room. The smell, the sight, the feel, the sounds... it’s all just hard to describe, unless you’ve been there. So, if you’re looking to save a few dollars; and Cleanliness, Safety, and your Families Health are not on the top of your priority list, then BOOK YOUR ROOM TODAY-!
The hotel is conveniently located close to Cedar point and the waterfront. Our room was clean but could have used some TLC. The lobby and onsite bar is kinda quaint because its a bit dated. Its a good option for a lower price place to stay. *****I must edit my review after a few instances. The first was not really the hotels fault, but nonetheless it put a slight damper on our nights sleep when a truck was playing their music loud enough to wake us up and it didnt stop from 12:15 to 12:40. The second is allowing a pool party on Sunday evening right under rooms in the courtyard with loud music that would not be considered family friendly. How an establishment allows this that caters to tourists that are usually on family vacation visiting Cedar Point is beyond me. The next time we visit Sandusky, well pay a little more and stay somewhere that is a little more suited to our needs.
It was a very nice hotel, although not as nice as we we expected. The lobby is amazing, but the rooms could be modernized and improved a little. Worth the money though, and for how close it is to cedar point! Also a bowling alley down the street and can easily get to the main strip!
We got to the hotel and our sheets were already dirty. There were dead mosquitoes everywhere. It was disgusting. I also needed to leave for a family emergency and was told if I was provided with information about it they would apply a refund. Well I applied all the information I could without violating family privacy, and they kept asking for more, and ignored my emails and have not refunded. Do not stay here. Pictures are deceiving.
This place needs an over haul, the pictures that were taken, were quite a while ago. It needs a very good cleaning, the carpets are filthy. The owners are taking in a lot of people and not maintaining the development. There is no microwave or refridgerater. They dont serve breakfast. Its ran by indians, they dont do like the other motels. And hotels do, they might not mind the filth, we had to clean our own room in order to be able to sleep in it because the carpet and the air conditioner had such an odor. We did this because we were stuck, on the contract it stated that you couldnt get your money back.
My parents stayed here last night and they had two men trying to break into their hotel room at 2:30 AM. The men had a key card that unlocked my parents door to the room and if it wasn’t for the security latch who knows what would of happened. The manager on site was absolutely rude and when my dad thought he saw one of the men who tried breaking in the manager said that he was a guest staying there. Not sure how someone gets a key card and the room number to break into but the whole situation was extremely sketchy and the police haven’t been much help either. After that let’s not even get into how freaking disgusting this place is. I would never wish my worst enemy stays here and hopes to god this review saves everyone else who is thinking of staying here. DO NOT STAY HERE. PAY MORE MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
If you staying for 1 night it will do. Nothing fancy. Its close to cedar point is its advantage. The bar and grill was closed for the season already. The web site did not mention that. 1 of the toilet paper rolls had dried blood on it. We had to walk outside to get to our room. The rooms seem old and out dated.
The room was poorly maintained; the toilet paper holding was falling out of the counter, there was a hole in the wall behind the door, the door was filthy and did not fit the doorframe very well. The bed frame cover/dust ruffle was dirty and when checking under the mattress, was covered with dirt and hair. While the sheets seemed clean, there were many stains on those as well. there were also stains on the blanket. The carpet had many noticeable stains. We requested and were given a non-smoking room however, cigarette smell was obvious and repugnant. The room needed to be painted and updated. The windows could not be opened because they were screwed shut. We went to the lounge in the evening which was fine, except the music was the most offensive type; cursing and descriptions of violence against women. We did mention this to someone behind the bar and there was no response. When we are next in town we will not be staying here.
First thing we noticed is the musty smell and dirty pool. We left and came back to ants all over the place. They changed us rooms but the bathroom light and the air wasnt working. We asked for clean sheets and they couldnt help us. Moved us to a 3rd room which wasnt much better. The photos are deceiving. We got the king suite and thought there were two sofas, a full fridge and a stove to find only one sofa so one person had to sleep in a chair. Also a mini fridge and small microwave is all we got. Not happy at all.
For the price and location, this is a good option! I read some of the other reviews and got a little nervous, but our experience was nothing but pleasant. The manager was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and well kept and the beds were nice and soft. This is a great, affordable place for people who don’t mind not staying in a five star hotel.
Stayed here two nights for a Cedar Point trip. The room was clean (bug-free to our knowledge), staff was friendly, and its not bad. Everything worked fine and the shower even had good pressure. The location was excellent, its a short 6-min drive to Cedar Point. However, there is a train track nearby and there are trains that run quite often, honking their horns the entire time they pass through. I had a very difficult time sleeping through it, and it woke me up quite early in the morning and kept me from going back to sleep since it seemed to run every hour. We also had noisy neighbors but once I called down to the front desk with a noise complaint, they quieted down shortly thereafter. We tried going down to the tavern for breakfast, and waited 30+ minutes before anybody gave us a menu. Then it was taking forever for the food to come out even though there were only two other tables besides us. We had to leave on an empty stomach...I would recommend this place to anyone on a budget. Bring earplugs and go elsewhere for food.
Stay away from this hotel!-Club inside hotel brings shady visitors that damage hotel guests cars and leave glass all over parking lot-Aforementioned club and the ensuing hundreds of party goers in the parking lot are so noisy, you will not sleep all night-Unsafe due to club guests and lack of proper hotel supervision-Bloody mattresses and dirty rooms-No elevators meaning carrying luggage up uneasy to manage stairs to room-Breakfast is only powdered donuts and coffee-Management is extremely unkind
The hotel doesnt have a elevator, and the room smelled like stale urine. There were cigarette burns in the sheets and there is a restaurant which turns into a club after hours. You can hear the music through the walls and it didnt stop until early into the morning. I paid $130 and it wasnt worth it.
The lobby/halls smelled like a funeral home and our room smelt even worse. 2 of the 4 guests who stayed have developed bedbug rash/bites. We didn’t find any evidence of them when we first arrived but the following morning one person had a bite and several days after our departure a multitude showed up on another. DO NOT STAY HERE!! BED BUGS!!The staff was nice and friendly though
Rooms were clean. Everywhere we looked staff was cleaning. The outside of hotel needs to be updated, so dont let that throw you. Staff was very accommodating. The onsite restaurant/bar was open. Breakfast & Dinner was very good. Close to the attractions. I will stay here again.
3rd year staying here. Stayed here to go to Cedar Point for Halloweekends. I dont like that the hotel is only open Friday till noon Sunday cause its very affordable and we wouldve liked to stay till Monday to have fun in Ohio some more. Im always happy with the hotel staff and how nice the hotel is for the price. I used to be a housekeeper at a high class hotel, I always take a look around at my room and make sure its clean to me. This is a great place and Im already excited for next years visit! Never ate breakfast there or went to the restaurant in it. I heard the restraunt closed.
The rooms were absolutely disgusting if you looked anywhere that wasnt in plain sight, like under the shower rug. The breakfast was woefully unequipped, a single waffle maker does not sufficiently feed an entire hotel. Did I mention there were bugs in the breakfast area? Because there were plenty. The pool area is in general disarray. The rooms costed much more than we were told they were when we made our reservations, and there was a 50 dollar deposit PER ROOM that we were also not told about. The TV was broken, and even after calling up there, no one came to fix it during our entire stay. They never told us about the person limit until we got there, and they charged us extra money (which we were, again, NOT told about until we were there) for every person after the initial 2. And to top it all off? They charged our card over 800$ (which is not how much the rooms cost, so I have no idea what theyre supposedly charging for) after we payed, in full, in cash when we got there. They also failed to provide a receipt. I cannot express how absolutely terrible this establishment is, and would in fact, recommend literally anywhere else, as the sheer scope of the mismanagement this hotel has displayed is astonishing. Easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in my life, and the many people on my trip who stayed with me agree completely.
This hotel is a bit run down. The floor was wet, and the room smelled like urine. House keeping did not change the bedding for FOUR whole nights! The manager on duty Maggie, was very dismissive. She brushed it off and handed us washcloths and bath towels. Still no new sheets. If I choose to come back and see if the room still smells like urine, that’s on me.
Its not that bad as the other people said about this place. I stayed 4 days and theres no refridgerator, microwave but still soft bed with pillow, stable connection of Wifi, Nice and hospitable front, clean restroom, low price, near to cedar point. Smells bit oudated but Im not a picky person so it wasnt big deal for me.
My over all experience with this hotel was not great. Immediately when I walked into the lobby I smelled a weird funk. Then when my friend and I got to our room I found some kind of animal or bug droppings under my pillow. I went to to front desk to ask for new sheets. Meanwhile, my friend continued to investigate the beds. I received a new key to a different room. I decided to check out the other room. So I pulled back the blanket and sheet. And moved a few pillows. Looked ok...so I thought. When I arrived back to my original room my friend informed me that she found evidence of bed bugs. My friend had just finished getting rid of bedbugs that she had gotten from her old apartment. So she was my onsite expert. So that was that. We decided not to stay at this hotel. Too gross and too high of a chance to take home unwanted house guests i.e. The bedbugs. Mind you, I had just driven 3 1/2+ hours to get to Sandusky. And spent ALL day at Cedar Point. So my friend and I were very tired and ready to go to bed. I was very upset that now I had to make the choice to drive home or chance getting bedbugs. I went back to the front desk and respectfully took the front desk clerk aside in private, as to not alert any new guests checking in about what I had found. Did I mention I took pictures of all we found?? So I showed him the pictures and explained that we were not going to stay and that I expected a full refund. Since we had only been there a mere 30 mins or so. The clerk did not appear surprised when he saw the photos. I fact he seemed like a child that had been caught stealing. Not one time did I receive an apology nor did I receive a full refund. The clerk said it was their policy to keep $50 of my money because I accepted the other room and i tore the room apart. Like I said. I moved the blanket, sheet and maybe two pillows. He continued to argue with me. I am not a very aggressive person. I do not like confrontation. And this experience has really haunted me. Its been a week and I still can not get that experience out of my head. Everything from the bugs, poop, and the awful desk clerk. Oh, and our toilet did not work properly. That was just annoying. So I would for sure NEVER recommend this hotel. NEVER!!
So, I went to stay at the hotel for the Cedar Point Halloweekends. When we arrived I had doubts, but I work for a Property Management Firm and Ive learned to check for bedbugs. After paying, before bringing anything in, I checked for bedbugs and immediately found dead bugs, bloody sheets, and then, of course, the bedbug. I captured the little critter and rolled on down to the lobby. I talked to the gentleman, explained what I do, and showed him what I had found. He was not surprised at all upon seeing the bedbugs which leads me to believe that they know that there is a bedbug problem in the rooms. Check yours.
Basic 1-2 star hotel... The only good thing is the proximity to Cedar Point. Regardless of proximity should never be more than $60/night... Outdated beds and decor. No microwave or refrigerator... Moldy caulking in bathrooms, dirty carpets, some towels had stains. Basically comparable to a motel 6...
I said thia place was nice i was wrong. We had mice in our room and a bunch of people was half naked partying at the bar till late in the night couldnt sleep even if i stayed another night . but after we seen 3 mice we packed up and left. I will never go to this place and stay again. I recommend the hotel 6 down the way. They are clean and no MICE that i saw.
The place was good for the price. There are flat screen televisions there now the bed was extremely comfortable got 2 good nights sleep to me thats the main thing cause thats all I get a room for. The breakfast could be better but there working on it. Would definitely stay again
For starters, men and women were standing at the front door and lobby in their underware having a party. I thought i was at a brothel. Loud music played through out the night and the rooms were not kept up. There were cracks in the walls and ceilings and the walls were dirty. I felt like i was at a pay by the hour motel. Overall it was a unsanitary place. I would not recommend this place to others unless your desperate
I checked their website before leaving Cedar Point, it showed walk in rates of $89+tax od standard room. By the time I arrive, less than a half hour, there is 1 King @$179! I was tired and paid cash, sight unseen🤬I couldnt get a deal worked out, no discounts for AAA, AARP or military. Plus $25 per person charge, $5 key charge. At this point, I ask if its a f..k me hotel. And take my card info!Upon walking up, open door to awful smells. Light switch doesnt work. There is no fridge or microwave. The next morning, coffeemaker doesnt work. Outlet no good? Maggie makes it in the lobby to give to me to carry upstairs.Go to load up stuff, vomit is on the walkway🤢The shampoo bottle was half empty, like really?I think this place has seen some things through time. Maggie was a great one who has probably seen alot go down here. But she was great.I wish I had booked the next nearest place at cheaper rate with indoor pool. Their pics were odd but place was way more reasonable. My fault I ended up here but live and learned an expensive mistake.
BE CAUTIOUS-they scammed me out of $250.00-Never again! Stayed here for two nights-the price was reasonable until I went to check out and found an EXTRA $250.00 charge on my account. My girlfriend had food poisoning and I attempted to do the right thing and went to the front desk to ask for paper towels so I could clean it up and they said somebody will bring them to me-in the end they said the charge was for the man who came up to the room-BE AWARE of incidental charges!!!!!!! At this price I couldve stayed at a FIVE star resort!
We stayed for three nights. Our family had a great time and most of the bad reviews are unfounded. Our room was very clean and large enough to have plenty of room to play a game on the floor. They did have a tube-style TV but it worked fine and has hookups for a game player. The bath has one sink outside of the shower which was convenient. No fridge or micro, but we used a cooler. The wifi was working, but intermittent and slow, so I would not depend on it for important computing. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was a bit repetitive, as the selection was small--no meat or waffles. The line got long near the end of breakfast, so arrive early for the least hassle. The pool was heated and clean. The surrounding courtyard was nice. The location of this hotel compared to others was nice because it stands alone on the way to Cedar Point, and is not crowded by other noisy stores and fun centers. We found the nights to be very quiet after a long vacation day. The disadvantage might be that food is not nearby so you would have to drive to get something to eat, but not very far. Overall, we found the hotel to be what we wanted at the right price.
Pretty no frills hotel that was fine for the cost of the room. Comparable to a motel 6 out similar budget hotel. Rooms seemed a bit outdated, but beds were comfortable, bathrooms were clean, staff was nice, and a healthy television selection! Breakfast was just donuts (if any left) and coffee, so you might plan on having morning grub elsewhere if this isnt enough for you.
This is not a hotel. Its a motel. In hotels, you dont have to exit the building to get your room. Free breakfast is its not breakfast, its coffee and donuts quoted by the receptionist. On a positive note, the staff was helpful, however I only stayed one night and didnt need a lotta help. Its clean; the rooms were clean; lotta channels for cable television. Its OKAY not the best. Not sure how Id feel if I had to stay multiple days.
Website made the place look alot nicer then it was but i guess you get what you pay for. They are definitely not handicap accessible i couldnt even fit through the bathroom door in my wheelchair it was too narrow of a door way. The walls in the bathroom were dirty and looked like there was blood on it. The carpet was wet by the dresser, very disappointed in the room.
I would never recommend this place to anyone. They over charge booked a family room got a regular room. Asked for a roll a-way bed crazy the dont have one but want to charge for extra $15 per night for another bed. They charge for extra towels and place needs to be updated.
My hotel smelled like bug spray so bad. Found dead roaches in the corner. Wasn’t even raining and they wouldn’t open the pool. Around all the night stands was nasty a bunch of dirt other peoples hair ties it was gross will never stay there again. They need to renovate that’s for sure don’t stay here
Poor guy at the front didnt speak English well and didnt know how to do the upcharge for extra people. Additionally, on the travel website (where yes, they can control what is displayed information wise) there was no mention about a per person upcharge or deposit for those under 21. And it had to be cash! They didnt have cash and couldnt get it that late at night. Rude management, gross hotel. I know its cheap but do yourself a favor and find somewhere else.
I’m supposed to be saying here July 13 -15 I don’t think that will be happening will all the reviews I’ve seen from multiple websites. People say about the mold, bug problems specifically bed bugs apparently, spiders misquotes etc. how they didn’t have ac there to the horrible smells that reek of piss and chemicals.., the “owner” responded to one review saying how they couldn’t have house keeping if there were personal belongings out so you have to ask for your sheets to be washed and made. Honestly then I heard about these “parties” and the bar or restaurant whatever it is how it’s so loud some nights and you can’t sleep! I was coming here to go to cedar point but I think I for sure will be staying else where.
WHATEVER U DO DONT PAY ATTENTION TO THE BOGUS REVIEWS...I took a gamble and decided not to listen to reviews and gave the hotel a chance since we were on a budget and im sooo very glad i did...its alil dated but the hotel was CLEAN and BUG free and thats all i needed. I will be back next year and recommend to friends! Dont go broke and caught up in the hype of the expensive hotels they arent worth thousands like they charge. Magnuson on Cleveland Road was just as good!
My girlfriend and I called to ask what the hotel name was so we could get the taxi to go there, and we really could not hear or understand what the man was saying, after saying numeral times “I’m sorry what’d you say” he then told my girlfriend “STFU or hang up”.... we then get there and he first does the person in front of us, booking wrong and lost her paperwork for there, then when we got up I did ask him why he was talking to my girlfriend that way..... and long story short we didn’t stay. He was completely rude about the whole situation and then lied about what he said to my girlfriend! Very poor staff and very unhappy with my purchase!
This place was horrible!!!!! Our room was not clean! It smelled horrific and I tried to take my kids to the pool and there were some young people playing very vulgar music F** this B** that it was pretty bad so I told the manager and he said he wasnt going to take care of it! And the breakfast is a joke its just donuts and coffee!!! So PLEASE DONT STAY HERE!!!! The manager obviously doesnt care!!
If you stay hear stay at you own riskWe came in last night from cedars point and there was no parking had a huge party down stairs at sport bar and had to search and metal detect everyone coming inWhen we woke up peoples cars was damaged, broken bottles all over parking lot and drug paraphernaliaAlso had loud music keeping everyone up and the crowd in the parking lot wasnt the friendliest crowd and Im from Cincinnati so thats saying a lotSo spend the extra 20 to 50 dollars and sleep with piece of mind your car wont be damaged when you wake up

2021-08-04This place lures you in with their beautiful newly remodeled entry way, but when you get to the rooms it’s a totally different story. There were stains on the sheets. We requested new sheets and those were stained as well. The towels were dingy and dirty as well. The floor was really nasty and not well cleaned or maintained well. There was also other little things to as seen in the video that was just plain gross. Don’t utilize the top comforter in this place they never wash them. It’s obvious. This place needs a complete overhaul and should be reported to the health department. Anyone giving this place a good rating must not be used to being in a nice hotel or they were paid to do so. If you plan of booking with this place proceed with caution.

2021-07-09Cant complain considering the cost. You get what you pay for. It was a pretty clean but outdated room. The initial smell was strange but after a little you stop smelling it. Bed was clean and comfortable and everything in the room worked. The people at the desk were nice too. Wont catch a complaint out of me, and if I needed a hotel to stay at in the area I wouldnt hesitate to stay again.

2021-07-21Hotel was nice and clean. Friendly staff. No breakfast but coffee was good. 😊 there is lots of places to eat. And just around the corner was the best brickoven stone pizza restaurant! The hotel could use a little fixing up in the rooms. ( Lobby was really pretty and loved the floors) but were not in the room much so it was great for the price and close to Cedar Point and anything you wanted to do. Id stay there again!😁

2021-06-28Upon reviewing past year reviews, it seems this hotel only used to charge $89/night. I assume because of covid prices had gone up, but we paid over $200 for the room! We were in a pinch, little was available, and its a great location to Cedar Point, so we booked. This is NOT a $200+ place, thats for sure. The outside is fine and they have a cute courtyard and pool. We walked into the room and it had a weird unpleasant smell. The blankets were stained, as well as the only chair. Its not a place I felt comfortable being barefoot. Somewhat clean is the best I can describe it. I would not stay again. Oh, and the hotel bar was closed. This is what I would expect for an $89 stay, but not a $200 stay.

2021-06-06Very nice surprise! The outside looks like your typical older hotel but then you walk into the lobby and Wow! So beautiful, like a five-star fancy hotel. Rooms were very clean. Easy check in and price was reasonable. The only thing I thought was odd was there was no mini fridge. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!

2021-07-25First time staying here with family on a cedar point weekend trip and I can say I’m pleased! The room we had was spacious and the bed was comfortable… Staff was friendly and the bar was cool 😎 and had a good chill vibe to it (bar opens at 8:30 🕣 pm…. Literally like 5 minutes from cedar point so will definitely stay again

2021-06-13Friendly staff. Quick service, roomnwas reasonable for the price and the beds were surprisingly good. I slept well. The entryway and Hallway areas need a face-lift but other than that I thought this place was good. I would stay again if I needed a cheap and comfortable place to stay.

2021-08-23The staff was very kind and helpful. Its very nice inside the lobby. The rooms were clean but outdated for the price and it was a little confusing to get to the hotel so we had to go around the block (no big deal). The coffee and doughnuts in the morning was 8oz Styrofoam cups and hostess prepackaged mini doughnuts out of a vending machine. On a brighter note, the pool was very nice and the courtyard was pretty. We paid for a suite but there was only a mini fridge and a microwave/coffee maker. Nothing else.

2021-07-18We did not have a bad experience. The reason it is getting 3 stars is because it just needs to be updated. The room served the purpose we needed which was for us to sleep and shower for 2 days. It would have been nice if they had a breakfast of some sort. For what was paid it was a little high priced because it is not a fancy hotel by any means.
