We’ve adopted two wonderful dogs from the Pit Crew. In the past we have gone through border collie boarders. This time we decided to save puppies. Our first, Gracie, was adopted to be a sister to our older border collie. She was wonderful. She added spunk to Tricia in her last days with us. Our second adopted, Smitty, has been a joy as Gracie’s brother. We have been amazed how we’ll the Pit Crew takes these puppies and provides excellent care until these puppies find their forever home. Thank you for all the love!
Believe the bad reviews about this organization. I wish I could give them 0 stars. I am very grateful there are organizations out there that want to screen the adopters before just letting animals go to any home. I do believe that is very important especially in this society. However, they are extremely unprofessional and EXTREMELY judgemental towards adopters. They do not care at all about hearing any story out or understanding how you would plan to take care of your new pet that you are wanting to give a home. 0/10. Would not recommend at all.

When we decided to start fostering again I reached out to the pit crew. And I have been so impressed with the whole process of rescuing, fostering, and adoption. They take some of the most neglected animals in this city and go to amazing lengths to help them. They have also done so much to educate our community and to work to end animal cruelty in our community. We have also adopted two dogs from LCPC and are incredibly happy :)
The Pit Crew is an amazing organization! They have the best interest of the dogs/cats to find them their purrfect furever home 🥰 My husband and I got both of our dogs from the Pit Crew and couldn’t be any more happier with them. We recommend them to everyone and will always get our dogs through them. The Pit Crew makes the process easy for you and your new pet. The amazing foster families who care for the animals do such a great job and are very helpful with the transition. When you adopt they offer classes to help with socializing and good manners. Definitely look here when you are looking for a new dog or cat to add to your family.
My husband and I are proud owners of three healthy animals. Two rescue cats and one puppy that we received from a family member who had a litter. While waiting for our puppy to get her nails trimmed at PetSmart we decided to take a look at cats that were up for adoption. A friendly cat caught our attention by pawing at the glass and meowing at us. His card said that he was affectionate, loved other cats, and liked dogs. We instantly fell in love and wanted to adopt him. I reached out to LCPC about adopting this cat through their email. I quickly received the application to complete, which I did that day and returned it. The following day I was told that I couldnt adopt the cat because my puppy isnt fixed. I replied by restating that while my puppy isnt fixed, my two cats are, thinking that it was simply a mixed up while reading my application. They replied with a one line excuse - Our organizations policy is that we adopt to people who spay/neuter all of their pets. No phone call, no explanation, just a one line excuse. They dont have a phone number listed anywhere, which I find unprofessional. These policies are not listed anywhere on their website or on the application. I have respectfully asked for an explanation (via email) as to why that is their policy but have received nothing in return. I simply want a logical reason why my dog has to be fixed when Im looking to adopt a cat that is already fixed and the two cats I have at home are already fixed. I understand that shelters are full and overpopulation of cats is a problem. But in this situation a litter of kittens isnt even possible. So, instead of this cat getting a loving home it is sitting in a tiny cage alone. I urge you, read through the reviews for LCPC before adopting, ensure you meet all of their strict, unexplainable, criteria and if you do, PLEASE adopt so that these animals are not alone forever. And please, if you need to drop off an animal that you can no longer care for, find another organization, there are many in the area that would take in the animal and actually find it a loving home.
I’ve adopted from this group and found their process to be top notch. They always have the best interest of the dog/cat and the adoptive family as the first priority. Their training classes which are included in the adoption fee for puppies/dogs provide the opportunity for assistance in making a successful transition for the family and the dog.
Lucas County Pit Crew is amazing. The love and care shown to the animals is beyond what I have seen any other organization provide. We found the process to be very easy and all the staff/volunteers to be kind and helpful. I LOVE that you cant just walk in off the street and adopt a dog or cat on a whim as so many do. LCPC has guidelines and standards in place to protect each animal being considered for adoption. I will definitely be adopting my next pet from LCPC and I highly recommend this organization to anyone who is serious about adopting a dog or cat.
Made one call to my vet and decided I wasnt fit to own a dog. I mean I raised a child and am currently raising two children but cant have a dog because my indoor cat (who runs the other direction if the door is open) hasnt had her rabies shot in 3 years. What a joke. We picked out a new puppy and the kids were so excited then we got home and found out a family member had passed away so my kids really needed that good news. Looks like I will go Lc4 where they treat people with respect.
We have 2 dogs from LCPC and cant imagine life without them. The adoption process was smooth, we love the fact that the dogs were up to date on vaccines and microchipped. And, we love the fact that they dont adopt to just anyone and truly want the adopter as well as the dog to be happy and make sure its a good fit.
I decided to come here and leave a review after being denied an adoption for a cat. I am so glad I did because now I see that I am not the only one who has been denied for such redic reasons! At least I wasn’t accused of not owning my home…..how shameful of these people! It’s incredible how they would rather let these poor animals sit inside Petsmart’s cages instead of giving them to people that want to provide a loving home!
Emailed this place about a cat 2 weeks ago for my friend. They took forever to reply. When they did it was unprofessional and rude. They claimed my friend didnt own the house they owned and refused to reply or call the number of the other home owner. Then the other home owner applied and they told us they gave the cat to someone else. After we applied two weeks ago and were waiting for a reply. This place is awful and doesnt care about the animals wellbeing. The house was perfect for the cat and Ive never known a better pet owner than my friend. Extremely unprofessional and rude with the emails and the timing of them.
Everyone in this organization has the animals best interests in mind. They respond to calls and fb messages very promptly...they go above and beyond to make sure fosters and adopters have all the resources they need to acclimate the new member to the family. They screen fosters/adopters and living situations to make sure the animals chance to remain in the home is high. In my situation they even provided a local home inspection for an out of town rescue group that was looking to adopt outside their area.
I appreciate the application process that Lucas County Pit Crew requires for the adoption of their dogs or cats. For the dog adoptions the process includes follow up training classes which offer the forever family basic training or socialization for puppies along with support from the LCPC trainer. We adopted our dog from LCPC in 2012 and she has been a perfect addition to our family.
Ive adopted both of my dogs through the pit crew. I love that they have puppy classes as part of the adoption, and how thorough they are to make sure the dogs are going to responsible owners. Also impressed with the work theyve done to have legislation changed in Ohio for pitbull-type dogs.
Wonderful organization that works very hard to overcome myths and stereotypes while trying their best to save as many fantastic rescues as humanly possible. The vet their adoptive parents very carefully to make sure their animals have every possible chance at a loving home. Both my rescues from them are absolutely fantastic dogs. Liz their “trainer” does a great job helping both dogs and parents adjust to each other. I can’t recommend this organization enough!
The people who volunteer really care about the animals as their own. I do not think people even realize how much effort and time goes into helping these animals . There are rules to adoptions for a reason...they do not want the animals abandoned or returned or sold to someone who does not have the animals best interest in mind. Every decision made is in the best interest for the animals.
I cannot say enough good things about LCPC. They do amazing work within the community and they ensure that each and every animal is going to a happy & safe home. The volunteers are so kind and caring and the foster parents treat their foster babies as if they are their own. I’m so beyond thankful we have an organization as wonderful as LCPC in our community!
I own my own home , have a fully fenced in backyard and have experience with pit bulls. I sent them so many photos of my family and my dog that had passed and how I would love to give another dog a good home and I was denied because I live too far away even when I offered to pay for their gas to do a home inspection. No thank you for your interest but unfortunately nothing it was so rude and it was we do not adopt farther out. So sad that we couldnt open our home to a deserving dog because we like an hour away.
I just pulled my application because they seem very unprofessional and dont seem to know what they are doing. First, they couldnt open the application I sent them. It was a link that I sent to other emails first to make sure it worked ok. But anyways, they are telling me I only opted for a rabbies vaccine and declined everything else. I told them I only declined for my cat was to be chipped... Then they responded with the vet saying I had a dog and my kitten isnt vaccinated. I literally have the vet bill in my hand... But instead of a asking me, they were telling me. This has been such a poor experience that I pulled my application. I understand being thorough but they arent interacting WITH me, they are not asking for proof of vaccines or anything, they are going off of an obvious mix up with my vet. Most likely seeing a dog under my mother in laws name who used to have the same address. So Im just not interested in working with people who seem just pretty unprofessional and dont ask questions. Good luck to the poor dogs who cant get homes because they dont have their stuff together.
Just adopted my first pitbull 3 days ago. Great experience with this organization. Love how they care for their animals. My son and I was looking for just a family dog and came across Ace adorable face. Everyone treated us so good, even made the adoption process smooth.. Thanks again Pit Crew!! Promise you Mr. Ace has found a loving home
The pit crew is a caring group of people committed to helping dogs (and cats) in need. They take placing rescues in the right home with the right people very seriously. Its refreshing to know that Toledo has such an excellent organization dedicated to the health and wellbeing of animals!
I put in an application to adopt a four month old kitten and was denied solely on the basis that I am not 21 years old. A majority of shelters in the Toledo area only require you to be 18+. I tried to talk to them about it since I will be turning 21 in under 4 months and my reason for adopting is so that I can have a companion (registered emotional support animal with paperwork from my doctor). But they didn’t care and turned me away immediately. The adoption process has been a lot more complicated now since we are in the midst of a pandemic and this has got me feeling really defeated.
Lucas County Pit Crew is a great organization that has done a lot for Pit Bull type dogs (and now cats too) in the community; from saving lives and providing needed medical care, to finding good homes, to providing training so new pets can be well-mannered, lifelong companions. I adopted one of my dogs through them, and I had no issues with the process - they are very careful to ensure their adoptees go to good, humane homes where they will get along with other pets you may have (of note, sometimes you just wont have a good match).LCPC is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization, so they do not operate a shelter and all adoptables live in foster homes (the fosters are wonderful people, for sure). Still, I did not have any trouble getting in touch with LCPC by email (Facebook is also an option). I am very glad to have them in the Lucas County community.
Terrible at communicationWanted to adopt a puppy and they said due to the ages of my children they weren’t completely comfortable adopting to me. Very understandable , except the puppy we were interested in was adopted out to a family with children younger than my own.Kind of wondering what’s the reasoning for the lame excuse ? Piss poor communication
Not informative or helpful. I was denied adoption of a cat to give it safe loving home due to my dog not being fixed. Their response when I asked why was because “there’s too many animals residing in shelters waiting for homes” which clearly does not make sense. So to anybody wanting to help home their animals make sure you go check out the Toledo humane society, as it would be a lot less strict and ridiculous!
The person who responded to my email and application did not read my application before they reached out. Even if you are a volunteer and not paid, you should read the application to at least know what dog is being requested for adoption. If an application is required and one takes the time to complete it in its entirety at least read it. Professionalism definitely lacking. Nevermind the non responsiveness to questions.Should be zero stars.
This is really a great organization, it was so nice to see that there are people out there helping pitbulls, a breed that is widely criticized and euthanized just because they are pitbulls. I wish i didnt work so much because i would love to become a foster and help out. if you are thinking about adopting a pitbull please call the Lucas county pit crew and give one of these awesome dogs a good loving home. I have a couple friends who have adopted through them and they have great additions to their families.
Found a puppy on pet finder that i wanted and Lucas County Pit Crew had it. I contacted them and it took 2 days for them to respond. Then they tell me to fill out an application. After I take the time to fill out the application she tells me that this puppy would see my other dog as prey and try to eat him. Then when I responded I just wanted them to meet first I got no response. So what kind of dogs are they fostering that a puppy would see another dog as prey🤔
I wouldn’t bother adopting from this group, they don’t understand that my father is who we are renting our house from and that we arent going anywhere and I want to adopt shadow but clearly thats not going to happen, I didn’t know that we didn’t own our house with a huge fenced in yard cause I thought we did and it’s not like they are going to kick us out or my SOON TO BE WIFE will split up, also because I have a baby on the way like i’m not going to be around it 24/7 because I’ll be a stay at home parent training a puppy and a baby, It’s not hard at all to train a dog I’ve trained 3 in my life and they are the sweetest, these people are judgemental !!!!!

2022-02-17I would give negative stars if I could. These people are AWFUL. We asked for a calm and kind dog fully trained. They gave us one that had medical and health issues and was not fully trained. We had to surrender her- which broke our hearts- but she was almost uncontrollable and put one of us in the hospital. They REFUSED to listen to our reasons and told us they basically didnt have to tell us anything about her at all or did it have to be correct (its in their contract!) Her profile was put back up the same day we returned her!My aunt also got a dog from them. They didnt tell her about its health issues. She spent thousands in vet bills for 10 months until he passed away. These people are crooked and disgusting! KEEP AWAY!

2021-11-21This rescue is great! I adopted my puppy from here a couple weeks ago and the entire process from meet n greets, home check, to adoption was within a week. This organization and fosters truly care about the dogs and where they go to live. The trainers they use for the 4 free puppy classes are all great. I would definitely adopt from them again.

2021-02-21Best rescue! We adopted a puppy & she was so easy to train because she had been living in a foster home with other animals & going to puppy classes. They do such a wonderful job making sure your new addition is a perfect fit.

2022-03-07🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨Never will I recommend Lucas County Pit Crew to anyone who wants a pet. If you recall, we were chosen as fosters for sweet Wispy December 26th. We loved and cared for her until Deans massive heart attack and emergency triple bypass surgery Jan 10th. I did the right thing and informed the organization that I was going to have to travel daily to and from Cleveland for a while as he had many complications and was transferred there from Toledo. They picked her up and my children didnt even get to say goodbye.Fast forward to now and Dean is home and in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation and I see that Wispy is listed as up for adoption. This is a copy of the correspondence after I had initially text the owner, Jeans personal cell phone and received zero response. So, shed rather have this dog with multiple senior dogs, than be a single dog with a family filled with love who already bonded with her.Additionally, Wispy was selected to be an emotional support dog for my eldest daughter who suffers from ptsd and adhd. Already had medical records and documents for her. Not to mention everything else we bought for OUR dog.I would give zero stars if possible.

2021-06-24SEARCH ELSEWHERE, DO NOT BOTHER! ZERO STARS!!!I was turned down because they said, my dog was not up to date on vaccines/neutered and he is up to date and has been fixed. I even called my vet to see if I was missing anything and I was not. They said that I lied about multiple pets simply because I am allowed to pick up flea/tea medications for my daughters dogs. Which do not live in my household. However, the best part was that they accused me of lying about owning my home. I know I own my home because I make a mortgage payment every month!

2021-02-22My husband and I adopted a wonderful rescue puppy from Lucas County Pit Crew. The volunteers were wonderful and provided support during the entire application process. They made helpful recommendations on how to create a safe home environment for our new family addition and the process included free socialization classes for our puppy (which was super fun to attend)! We both love that we can still connect with our dogs LCPC foster family! My husband and I were blown away by the support we received even after the adoption was final. I called the team with questions, concerns, or just to swap photos! They do so much within the community and I enjoy all the fun events they host with.for the dogs. For example, dog photo shoots, live puppy cams, creative fundraisers, and best of all - the attention they provide to dogs who need their forever family! We highly recommend this location if you are seeking to adopt, volunteer, and/or donate!
