This Chipotle style sushi bar was very tasty and the ingredients, very fresh. I enjoyed the poke bowl with spicy tuna and shrimp. There were many offerings of cold and hot tea; the winter melon was very good. Not cheap fast food however, two poke bowls and two teas were $30. Trendy, Urban decor.
Long time no bubble tea, feel my blood flows again. I like the poke bowl they really put in a poke ball that’s cute. Minus one star for the teriyaki rice, too much rice too less meat, and it’s not steak meat. But the cabbage soaked in the meat sauce is very yummy.ordered again!so yummy!
The tuna here is not stored correctly. The reason I know this is because 10-20 minutes after eating it, my girlfriend and I got Scombroid food poisoning, which causes your skin to flush, headaches, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea. Scombroid food poisoning is caused when eating tuna that has been improperly stored, usually left out in room temperature for a few hours.
Tasty choices made fresh and fast. The Teriyaki bowl with noodles was delicious. Build your own sushi was good but can definitely get expensive if you dont keep the menu with you to see how much the extras are. The grilled chicken tasted boiled not grilled (my only critique). But we will definitely try again! Tried again and it was great.
Overall really great!! They’re online order & doordash only currently which makes things so easy.I got a lychee black tea with mango bubbles which was BOMB. Probably the best bubble tea I’ve had.I also got a crab poke bowl with carrots, green onion, avocado, sweet corn, fried onions, topped with spicy Mayo and eel sauce. The packaging is SO cute but incredibly hard to open.In my opinion they give way too much rice, probably about half of their normal serving would be perfect. Even though I mixed everything together, I ended up with a lottt of rice left with no sauce. Overall I’ll definitely order from here again 🥰
UUUUUGGGHHH.I have a bias with a favorite Japanese eatery, but this is RIGHT behind it on my list of favorite places. There are other Japanese eateries much closer to my residence, but Im more than happy to drive the extra distance to eat here instead. Its nice to order takeout rather than stick around, though. The atmosphere - particularly the music - is downright awful, and you do need to shout to speak over it. I feel so bad for the people who work here and have to endure that all day.
My favorite place to eat in Kent, hands down. The teriyaki bowls here are absolutely wonderful, the atmosphere is fantastic, the employees are great, and the chopsticks almost never have splinters! I am enough of a fan that I have recommended/brought multiple friends and family members to eat here, as well.
Don’t listen to that Dave guy up there^^^ This place was delicious. The Sushi was amazing and well worth the price. I have never had bubble tea before and the cashier was nice and informative. They are in a soft-opening and still getting things running. Totally recommend over any other sushi place in Kent.
Amazing and fresh approach to sushi in downtown Kent! Their teas are done the traditional and right way, this is the best bubble tea in Kent! Take it from someone who worked at a tea salon in Columbus!I’m so glad this place is here, it is extremely clean and the workers are nice. Of course as with any new restaurant there are kinks to work out. I find that patience goes a long way and I will be coming here all the time!
Incredibly overpriced. Build your Sushi rolls are a good concept in theory except they dont instruct you on what extra charges there are. Rice machine sucks. Basically its patchy on the seaweed wrap so already you are getting less rice than paid for. You get two veggies included and then its $1 each additional veggie you order. Let me repeat... One dollar for a few strands of carrot. What a joke. At least be upfront and advise the customer that its going to be extra as I continue to pile on the veggies. Ever heard of Fusion out of Cinci/Dayton/Columbus? Same build your own sushi restaurant, 1000 times better. Stay away from this place. Apparently profits are more important than a satisfied customer.
Very disappointed. I ordered the beef teriyaki with fried rice for me and the chicken teriyaki with udon noodles for my girlfriend. There was no teriyaki sauce in either dish as well as no teriyaki flavor. The fried rice was mushy and clumpy. There was nothing that resembled fried rice like Im used to. The udon noodles were wet and flavorless. I paid $2.00 extra for the noodles and fried rice. There was very little meat or veggies in either dish. So I basically paid $24.00 for a bowl of rice and a bowl of noodles with very little meat or veggies. Theres plenty of other options for good asian food in Kent. I would avoid this place.
Its okay for what it is. I wouldnt go back or recommend to anyone. Food was fine, but forgettable. Fast food on demand sushi made right in front of you Subway style just feels criminally unauthentic. The menu was difficult to navigate and was not explained very well. The atmosphere was probably the worst part: Hard surfaces everywhere, many sounds bouncing around, loud music, you cant hear the food preparers, much less the people you sit down to eat with at a table afterwards. If you get food here, take it to go.
Fantastic service, food is VERY well priced! Consider that Im a college student that is trying to not spend a lot of my companys money! Been there 2X and ordered variety of food and havent been let down. Ordered an item with a long cook time according to the cashier and was out in 10 minutes. Atmosphere is like Chipotle and I reccommend the Teriyaki bowl. Edit: Id like to add that I did not order the sushi because it looked overpriced. Do not get extras, too much $$ for small portions.
Such a cool place! I got an Ohio roll and it was delicious. I also got a green oolong tea which I had to wait for them to make which is kinda cool because it was fresh but kinda not cool because I was almost done with my sushi by the time it was done and because it was really expensive. But I would go here again if I have the money for it.
It was my first time ordering today and I got chicken teriyaki bowls. It was super good and really well proportioned - but the only downside was the veggie ratio. I looooove carrots and broccoli in my teriyaki! But there was literally a single carrot slice, and a single tiny floret of broccoli in my bowl. I wish I was exaggerating. Don’t get me wrong, I love cabbage and it was fresh cabbage so it wasn’t unpleasant to eat. Just a little disappointing, that’s all.
A new, very modern sushi place in line with the likes of Chipotle with how you order and make your own food.It was my first time here and entering it gave me a very industrial, modern vibe which I liked. There is standing eating and you can sit down as well. Looking at the menu was daunting at first until I realized it was the sort where you can make your own types of sushi or order any pre-made sushi off of the menu.I ended up ordering the Kent Roll and it was very delicious. Sushi ended being bigger than I thought and that was a big plus especially considering the price. I also ordered a side of the gyoza to try them out - bit on the smaller side, but delicious as well! With the create your own sushi, my friend ended up creating his own with beef, mayo, and some other weird additions to make a concoction of sorts. I ended up trying it and it was rather delicious - I was surprised. It caters more to the younger crowd, especially with Kent State University being so close. However, if you like sushi, dont let it deter you since this is an awesome place to go!
Absolutely love the fried rice and their yum yum sauce its yummy. I gave only 3 stars hoping someone will read this...The yum yum sauce containers are only filled halfway some less than. You guys charge .50 for an extra one thats half filled:/Only one yum yum per rice maybe consider giving an extra for free or filling them up 3/4 of the way...
I love this location! Staff is always friendly & polite & ensures that my order is accurate. Food is always hot, delicious & made quickly. I love the wide variety of options, making it exciting every time I come in. It’s refreshing having a restaurant take pride in their service & products. I recommend this Kenko to anyone in Kent!
Milk tea....YUM. Everything else....I am very confused. We door dashed our order so I am very confused on why you would ever put sushi on top of soup? NO ONE likes warm sushi. We bought two of the teriyaki bowls....1) Where is the teriyaki? 2) What kind of beef and chicken are you using to make them taste exactly the same? 3)Why so much cabbage? Its literally the never ending bowl of cabbage. Also Yum Yum sauce is needed for your food because the taste is not amazing its good but not great. If I had a large cup of YUM YUM sauce it might be better. Last thing put utensils and napkins on carry out orders. We are at work and I prefer chopsticks! Get it together Kenko SMH
Weve been to this place a few times and enjoy it. You get freedom to make your own food and drinks, but that comes with the risk of you making bad decisions. But with ingredients like salmon, advocadoes and cucumber how wrong can you really go?The staff were really kind and gave us pointers when we were ordering, and its in a great part of town to hang out in. Id recommend checking this place out
Youre not gonna find much better sushi than Kenkos around Kent, or the state of Ohio for that matter. Ive been to Japan and lived on the coasts, I know what decent sushi is. This is truly the only decent sushi Ive had in Ohio. Why any Ohio resident rated this below 5 stars is beyond me. And whoever says its overpriced is wrong, this is very reasonably priced for what you get.
Odd ordering process, trying to be like Chipotle with Sushi. Not my cup of bubble tea. Pretty much limited to rolls as far as sushi goes. The young girl at the checkout was unaware of what nigiri even was and it isnt available here, odd for a sushi place. Quality ok but not going to blow you away if you really enjoy sushi. I think they should be more concerned with focusing on one thing and doing it very well instead of trying to just be hip. I think if you enjoy serious sushi you might be better off with Pacific East if you are hungry within the hours they are open or a trip to Akron may provide more serious choices as well.
Facility is clean and new. Wifi and outlets with USB charging ports are available. The food here is on par or just below what you expect to find in a mall food court. If you are on foot and craving some rice and teriyaki chicken, and price isnt a concern, then this place might fit the bill. But if you are looking for a good bang for your buck, or to fill your tummy with large portions of food, this place wont cut it. A bowl with two protein choices, two veggies (a tablespoons worth of veggies each) and one sauce and one sprinkle on topping is $11 dollars. I got avocado, and they gave me three thin slices of avocado. I asked for more, and they said that three more slices (about a tablespoons worth) will cost another $1-ish. I asked for sprouts, and without exaggeration they gave me 12 alfalfa like sprouts (about 1/2 a teaspoon). The teriyaki was good but again, about half the quantity you would get for the same price at the mall. The sushi was again, about mall food court quality. In their defense, we came the 2nd day they were open, and Im guessing they havent ironed out the kinks in the system. The chicken and tofu udon, and white squares of chicken were dry and flavorless and honestly hard to tell apart from the tofu. The tapioca balls in the bubble tea had not been boiled soft, and the Taro came out with dry uncooked tapioca balls.
Total rip. Maybe my expectations are too high because I frequent sushi bars that are actually a good value. Kenko will try to charge $1 extra for EACH veggie after your second one. Yes, EACH. Seriously? How much does a cucumber cost? A few jalapeños? Really... $1 extra for some carrot strips. And the sushi is bland. The rice is mush. The veggies aren’t very fresh. And the sauces are pretty much flavorless.Kenko’s only saving grace is that its staff is very friendly! Hopefully the owner pays them well, because he’s racking up a huge profit selling below-average sushi at an above-average price.
Order the Miso Udon Soup with beef and shrimp tempura with a very berry green tea and grape boba and the wife got Onion Udon Soup with shrimp with milk black tea and boba. Food was good, beef tender drink not as good as Mings in kent. Would come back for more noodles. Definitely want to try the sushi, it looks super fresh. Seen them cutting up a giant side of Tuna. Only thing I wish is they had soup spoons for the Udon, these tiny spoons are just a pain.
I go to the Kenko in Cleveland all the time and was estatic when the Kent one finally opened. Ordered my usual drink, Oolong milk tea with boba and it was made just right! I decided to get some sushi and chicken teriyaki for the first time and it was so good!! Definitely go to Kenko if you have a tea craving, sushi craving, or chicken teriyaki craving!!

2021-10-19I used to love Kenko and it was good but just on Sunday i found THREE piece of plastic rolled into my sushi. Im hoping i haven’t consumed any plastic before i found the first piece. I tried calling Kenko several times and no answer. Their mailbox is full so i cannot leave a message. I left a comment on their page with no answer from them. Will not be eating here again.

2021-07-17Sorry to say this, but I had the worst sushi ever at this place. I ordered Ohio roll and crab roll takeout. When I opened the sushi box when I came back home, I was very surprised to see how the sushi looks like. I uploaded photos here and you can judge by yourself. This was my first time ordering sushi at Kenko and I dont think I will go back.

2022-03-02I love this place but they really need a working phone and to refrigerate peoples orders. I unfortunately was very late getting my order due to a situation with work. I tried to let the store know that I would be a few hours late...I cannot get through to the store. No one answers the phone. When I came to pick up my food, it seemed like it had just been sitting out for that entire time. It cannot be sanitary to have raw fish sitting out at room temperature for that long. I understand i shouldnt have been late but I feel like not having a phone isnt good at all. Sometimes life happens and customers need to call your store. This is not the fault of the employees.

2022-04-26Been here twice and still havent figured out how to get food. Employees wouldnt make eye contact and there are no signs posted with instructions. I assume its online order?... Dont really care when Im stood up that bad by 3 line cooks that arent busy. I guess Ill never know if they are any good. The other time I tried to go in during the 2nd year of the pandemic and you couldnt even enter to pick up. Their approach of the customer doesnt exist unless theyre virtual if f-ing mind boggling.

2021-03-23This place definitely satisfies my need for boba tea and sushi! The rolls are fresh and so delicious. We have mobile ordered a few times through the website and it’s always correct, on time, and tastes good! Not expensive, simple, and easily accessible. My suggestions for teas would be the Thai tea with extra sweetness, and the honey oolong tea with extra sweetness and added boba! They are so good. Our favorites for the sushi were the spider roll with added yum yum sauce and the Ohio roll :)

2022-04-26Tried to go here twice. The second time, we actually managed to get inside. Of the three employees working the line, no one spoke to us, looked at us, or otherwise acknowledged our presence. Apparently, youre supposed to scan a QR code to order online when youre standing in front of them, but thats purely speculation because again, they wouldnt acknowledge we were there and no instructions were posted. They will not get a third try.

2019-09-30Best sushi, teriyaki, and boba in town 😍. You can custimze every order! Service is great and the employees are always friendly. They have wifi and plenty of outlets. Its also across from the Police station, near the Architecture building at Kent State.
