Today, they performed a trip safety inspection for an upcoming road trip. They have been working on both of my vehicles for awhile now and I trust them to handle all necessary repairs and preventive maintenance. A truly honorable and trustworthy group of people.Highly recommend.Fred Ray
Extremely customer oriented, with very reasonable pricing. Even the actual mechanic who worked on my vehicle was very friendly and informative. The analysis of my vehicle and the recommended repairs was quite thorough; there were no surprises. The shop owner called and discussed items at every stage, and was always friendly and willing to answer my (seemingly endless) questions. Its a combination of qualities which is extremely rare these days!
My wife took her car to this shop for a simple oil change. I usually change our oil myself but we moved and don’t have a garage anymore so taking it to a shop was more convenient. She was very nervous being a woman and knowing shops can take advantage of her not knowing a whole lot about cars. They would not give a price estimate up front. Once she took it in the service was relatively quick, about an hour. She said the employees were very nice. However, they charged her $120 for the service with a $65 labor charge. She was there for an hour so something doesn’t add up. Once she left and started on the highway she noticed a pretty significant wobble and called the shop. She went back and they told her it was because she had one different tire than the rest (flat replacement) and that it should be fine. She was there for 15 minutes. They did not check the balance or offer any tests to see where the wobble was coming from. We will not be going back to this shop for any service at all.
I am consistently impressed with the service I receive from Japanese Automotive Services. David and Andrew are always friendly, prompt, honest, detail oriented and fair. I 100% trust them and will not go anywhere else with my Honda Pilot. They use mobile quoting and invoicing that is simple and easy to use on your phone. I really like that they communicate via text to provide timely updates. The Covid contactless experience is super easy and seamless.
92 Mazda MiataAndrew and his team have been extremely helpful in getting my 78k mile miata into ship shape.Never pushy on getting work done unless it is a safety hazard or an absolute must. Very responsive to questions and inquiries. Fair prices. Wide bredth of services offered. They have even provided consultation on replacing an alternator pivot bolt free of charge. Saved me having to get the miata towed up to them after it threw a belt due to that particular bolt backing out and being lost on the road somewhere. If you need work done on your Miata, this is a top notch shop for the job.Ill being doing business with them for the foreseeable future.
When I scheduled an appointment here, my 2012 Toyota Yaris was badly in need of service. Squealing sounds from the engine and nearly 100k miles on the car. Making the appointment was easy. I also requested for a rental car because I needed to get to work. I have previously serviced my car at big dealerships. The last few service requests were at a Toyota dealership and the quality of service commensurate to the price were mediocre at best. This place, however is an independent small business and I decided to take a chance on them. The staff are very kind and professional. I spoke at length with Andrew who had the patience and kindness to break it down for me. He helped situate me in the rental car and told me that hed text me with a quote for the service. A few hours later I received the estimate for $100k mile service and the replacement of the alternator belt. At that time, I felt that this quote was on the higher side and about 20% above my expectation. Against my initial gut feel, I decided to go with the service and price because of the courtesy afforded during drop-off. And in the evening I picked up my car after paying them. When I turned on the car, the price justified the service. At nearly 100k miles my car feels as fresh as it was when I initially bought it. The motor runs silent and I feel like I can take this machine on a cross country trip without breaking a sweat. The quality of workmanship is second to none! This business knows what theyre doing and they know it well! Professional, honest, courteous and skilled technicians. Needless to say, this business will be my choice and my familys choice and I will constantly recommend them to anyone in need to great automotive service!
I moved to the area last year and I have 3 Japanese vehicles. I needed to find an independent mechanic; someone who I could trust. I worked with David on my recently purchased vehicle, and couldnt be more happy with the quality of service and wealth of knowledge he has. As an added bonus, he has a vehicle similar to mine with well over 200k miles, so he knows what hes doing. If youre looking for a top quality, fairly priced, and honest shop for your vehicles, then this is the one for you!
Fast, efficient, helpful service. They are a NAPA location and provide detailed electronic vehicle reports and online payment options which is awesome. Friendly staff, very competitive and fair pricing, highly recommended! (They provide service for my Subaru and Toyota)
David and Ivan have taken excellent care of my daughter and me for years now. They have been great about making sure only the necessary maintenance and repairs are performed and always take the time to explain what they are doing. Prices are reasonable and the work is always done right. We have an 02 Camry that runs like a champ and an 09 Corolla that does the same. I wouldnt go anywhere else.Last summer, my daughter got in an accident. I was on a trip and could not make it to her accident scene. I was able to contact David and he was able to quickly help us with an auto body recommendation so we could have the car towed. The first thing he asked me was Is she OK? That kind of personal interaction and character is exactly why I am a customer for life. The body shop did great work and David made a very stressful situation a lot easier.
This Car repair service is the most reliable, honest and friendly company I have ever used. They are willing to explain what needs to be repaired and why, and they have even kept me from spending extra money, and have discovered times when I needed repeat repairs and told me about it. Dave Waits and Ivan are great people, and lets face it. When you need your car repaired you want it done by someone who you can count on and treats you in the most cordial way.
My sister referred me to JAS because she was more than satisfied with the service that they provided to her. Dave, who I believe is the owner is awesome. I have a 18 year old Honda Accord and he took really good care of my car and recommended the work that needed to be performed now and in the future. I am very pleased with the service so far and I am sure, just like my sister, I will be a customer FOREVER!!!! In addition, I like the fact that rental cars are available for a nominal fee. Thanks Dave and the rest of the staff. You guys are all great !!!!
Weve been taking our Lexus cars here for years. They help me keep my 04 in tip top shape - still going strong! They also work on my husbands 07. Prices are very reasonable. Years ago, my husbands car needed a good amount of work - the dealer quoted roughly $4k for everything. We got it all done at Japanese Automotive for around $1k. We dont trust anyone else to touch our cars. I happen to know a lot about cars - I could work on our cars myself if I had the time and equipment. I know when an automotive place is trying to BS me or sell me on something that isnt necessary. Japanese Automotive does not do this! They are stand up guys who care about customers and repeat business. Ignore the haters and give them a try yourself!
Created a safety hazard! Wont come back and cant recommend. As our Honda Odyssey could be counted as a Japanese car, we thought this local mechanic would be a good place to do a standard B15 service (oil and filter change, coolant replacement) and get additionally the summer tires off in exchange for our set of winter tires. My wife picked up the car and I was surprised by the price tag of $250 for this standard work which we get cheaper at the Honda dealership in Marysville where we usually go to. OK, they also replaced a total of 11 breaking lights (??) so I thought it might have been a little more expensive but at least they saved me a trip to Marysville.Well, I was wrong. When I came home I directly noticed that they forgot to change the tires which my wife did not notice when picking up the car in between picking up the kids. For the mechanic it probably seems perfectly normal to drive around with 4 tires flying around inside the vehicle or how can one miss that???So my wife went back to get the tires changed and all seemed fine. After unloading the summer tires it turns out that the pressure sensors of the new tires where not registered to the cars TPMS. Asking them about it they say that this is the first time they hear about the requirement to register the TPMS of the changed tires. So much for being specialized on Japanese Automobiles....So here comes the third trip but now they tell us to go to Discount Tires to get the tires registered. Fine I thought, at least we get the job done now and indeed, they fixed the problem in minutes. But they also saw that the specialists at Japanese Auto mounted the winter tires the wrong way such that the rotation direction was going backwards instead of forwards. This is the reason Im writing this review, as I just cant have any trust in a mechanic who is not even capable of correctly mounting the tires. This definitely would have created a safety issue during the first snow!Bottom line they get a one star rating for not confusing the engine oil with coolant fluid.
I have been to many car repair shops in Columbus. Now that I have found Japanese Automotive Service, I will not be going anywhere else. They were very honest and upfront with me regarding my car repairs. I was informed of repairs that needed to be done now and those that could wait. The estimate to repair my car was the actual amount I paid when the service was complete.
I’ve been taking my car here for probably close to 8 years, it can be scary being a girl taking your car to a shop & they’ve always been so nice to me and gone out of their way to help me. All of the guys who work their are super friendly, I will take all my cars here & recommend anyone who needs work done!
Hi,Ive been to Japanese Automotive twice. The are knowledgeable and I like supporting local businesses.Recently I needed an alternator and timing belt changed and took the car to them without asking quotes from other companies (my mistake).Unfortunately their price point was few hundred dollars more than dealership in town. I ended up getting the car towed to dealer repair shop and get the exact same service for a much lower cost. Its surprising but its good to ask ahead. Hope this helps others out.
My Toyota FJ had a very confusing electrical issue and I could not figure it out, Japanese Automotive was referred to me by a friend. They were quick to figure the issue out and let me know what it was, turned out to be multiple issues. Outstanding customer service and their rates were even better than I was told, Highly recommend!! I will be a repeat customer.
As a young female going alone to car repair shops, I’ve been treated badly at other places (Goodyear and Jiffy Lube). But Japanese Automotive Service is far different, for the better. They save me money and treat me and my car with respect. I recommend this car shop to everyone!
Service: 10/10Honesty: 10/10I had an A14 code on the dash of my Acura TL-S. A14 = timing belt, check water pump, spark plugs, check valves, tire rotation, oil change + filter. I first called Lindsay Acura and they quoted me $1750.. which was insane. JAS quoted me $1250, and seeing that they had great reviews: I knew it would be a good place to take my car. Im careful about where I take my car to get worked on and JAS met, and exceeded all expectations.Fortunately for me, I found out the prior owner of my car (my friend) replaced the timing belt and water pump recently before I bought the car.I only needed the oil change, spark plugs, and valve adjustments (had tire rotation recently). When I got there, they figured out with me that I probably didnt need valve adjustments - but they would check. How awesome is that? Turns out I didnt need it.That right there solidified all of the great reviews I read online. They could have easily taken the extra money from me and I wouldnt have known. They are a very honest shop, the 2 owners are great guys. They will get my and my familys business from now on. I will spread the word about them. I also want to add they offer car rental for only $25/day!
Great experience! The mechanics are very knowledgeable and the owner David Waits is very trustworthy and honest. They definitely only fix what is wrong and they NEVER tell you that you should fix something else just to make more money. I will never take my car anywhere else.
Best Auto repair service Hands down. The owner /Manager is very honest nice gentleman. They will give you very honest opinion and get your work done in reasonable price. Since i found them in google i am super happy with their service and communication. try once you wont regret in life.
NOT HONEST, VERY SHADYPreface: Before I brought my vehicle to them, the tow truck driver drove it onto and off the bed of the tow truck. My clutch was intermittently not disengaging. Had them check out my clutch cuz it wasnt disengaging all the time. They said It had no hydraulics and the clutch is bad so it needed a new clutch kit, master & slave cylinder, and that alone would cost $1500. They also said the transmission would need to be checked because there were broken pieces of metal found near the bottom of the shifter, but only after I agreed to let them start the repair because dropping the transmission alone would cost $900 (tranny needs to b dropped to change clutch). He said its a 9hr job dropping the transmission alone. Screw that! Maybe for someone doing it the 1st time reading a manual. That was the 1st indication they were scammers. The 2nd thing that alerted me was realizing he said it had no hydraulics. BS the tow truck driver drove it down his truck bed. I didnt know the extent of what he meant by no hydraulics until I picked it up. I thought he meant that it was just leaking fluid which is why the clutch was intermittently disengaging. I told him to hold off cuz Im getting a 2nd opinion and asked if its in the same condition it was in when I dropped it off. I was planning on driving it a few miles to the other shop. He said yes; there wasnt anything they needed to reassemble. When I went to pick it up I asked him how he knew the master and slave cylinder were bad and he says he didnt. He just gave me an estimate for worst case cuz it had no hydraulics. BS AGAIN! I told him that before I brought it in I had someone push the clutch pedal in while I confirmed the slave cylinder was working. So I debated with him for a while and then left expecting to drive the 3 miles to the other shop. Thats when I found out what he meant by no hydraulics. He really meant NO HYDRAULICS! The clutch pedal had ZERO PRESSURE. I went back in and told him his shop sucked and I was glad I didnt let them do the work.So... the other shop put in a clutch kit and said only the slave cylinder needed to be replaced-$1150 and dropping the transmission was $$$ cheaper.DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS UR A FRIEND OR RELATIVE Cuz theyre ripping people off
Let me say that I initially had a positive experience. Had my head gasket changed (plus timing belt, water pump etc). It was expensive, but that is par for the course. To my chagrin a crucial pulley was not properly tightened. My car ended up breaking down in the middle of Nevada on a cross country drive because of this. This ended up costing cost me circa $800 in the end.
Left a store today in Mill run and while getting in my car I heard a hissing noise coming from my back tire! Called Japanese Automotive and couldnt believe they not only could get me right in , but fixed it within 30 minutes of my sensor going off in my car and before I had to drive on a flat to then have to pay for a room also👍👍 Thanks Japanese

2022-02-24We were looking for a second opinion on a used Mazda3 we were purchasing. Japanese Automotive was super helpful in setting up our appointment for a road test & overall check up for the car. Their Condition Report came the same day and they took time to explain all issues and what needed to be addressed now vs. later. They made communication of their process and our car status easy throughout the process. They were responsive, helpful and displayed a tremendous amount of expertise & integrity. A great business!

2022-03-26These guys have always been great. I can always count on them to be upfront and honest, they would never recommend you do any repair if they didn’t think it was necessary. Also, their prices are more than fair for the high quality of service they provide. I don’t see why i would ever take my vehicle anywhere else in this city.

2022-03-25Andrew and David are great. They sent detailed photos. They advised me of what pitfalls there might be in repairing a car with 290,000 miles on it. Andrew kept in touch with me regarding the delivery of parts ordered and the progress of my repairs. Their estimates were accurate. My car runs like a dream, and Ill definitely go back to them.

2022-02-19I brought my Honda Civic in on Saturday, by Monday morning I got a notification that they were looking at it, and by that evening they had a diagnostic done and multiple options layed out by price. The ended up going under cost on the one we selected and saved me a huge chunk of money, and I had the car back by the end of the week with a super painless payment promise. These guys are my new go to mechanic in Columbus, the whole process was super streamlined, well priced, and painless. Shout out to Andrew for his work!

2022-08-04This small shop treated me so well and spent a lot of time talking with me about my questions/concerns and gave me a second opinion from a dealership for free. They sent me a text with a report and photos and then Andrew followed up with a phone call. I will definitely be back. Great service.

2022-05-02Exceptional! Felt they cared about me and my vehicle not just about my wallet like the dealerships. Already referred my son and he is picky! Lol . I plan to be a long time customer!

2020-10-28Simply amazing. I will never take our two cars anywhere else for service. The new system for dropping off, reviewing service needs and picking up the car blew me away. All through text and emails, super simple and how I want to communicate. Very customer focused. I have worked with David and his team for years and they honest, fair, do get work and get our cars back on the road. If you are looking for a trustworthy shop who knows how to service your Infiniti, Acura, Honda, etc than look now further. Thank Japanese Automotive!!!

2022-02-10Anthony always does a great job with our vehicles, I wouldn’t take them anywhere else. Japanese Automotive Service has by far been the most trustworthy mechanic shop I’ve been to. You come in and don’t have to worry about anything other than fixing what truly needs fixed.

2022-01-31I contacted them via text through their website a few months ago as I was unable to call and assumed they were already busy doing repairs for others. I was pleasantly surprised with the rapid response via text and how they understood my inability to speak with them over phone at that time. I was treated with professionalism and impressed at their ability to communicate via text alone at that time. Unfortunately for them (fortunately for me) I was able to resolve my issue on my own and let them know such. I thanked them for their time and let them know based simply on their communication and that particular experience, I would be sending my next vehicle repair needs their way. It was replied with courtesy.Several months later I need their help again with a broken axle and power steering issue. I had car towed to them on a Saturday morning in which the dont work weekends which is absolutely fine by me. I text them again and let them know my Vin number, name and likely issues with expectations they would contact me Monday morning. I received a text within an hour on the same Saturday and the process was started to qoute a diagnosis and price for repairs after their assessment. As of today, Tuesday, less than 3 days after having vehicle dropped in their lot without them knowing, they quoted me a very fair price, I feel comfortable with the diagnosis and they are beginning the repair.I will follow up this review after repair but I can say with much experience it is very hard to find a business model like I have experienced in the automotive world. Im confident in the expectations and the final repair and costs and felt it necessary to review them pre and post fix. I take online reviews to heart seriously as you can mostly identify those who are out to degrade an operation or business so its imoroti follow up after the repair or if I experience any unforseen issues. Congrats to their team!Follow up - expectations exceeded on quality of work, communication on services performed and additional services recommended. I was sent pictures along with vehicle assessment to ensure their recommendations were valid. Its hard to find businesses like this anymore and you can be sure that your going to get quality service, excellent and timely communication as well as fair pricing. Thanks to the team at Japanese for your professional support and I will continue to send my business and recommendations your way!
