I love Tansuke! It provides what I look for: delicious inari, along with many other options for sushi and bento. The fresh veggies are wonderful too. I can also find various snacks from Japan, also other Japanese food (frozen but are still good). The packaging is legit, youll know that everything is well prepared. And also clean!
Ive only had the opportunity to come to Japan Market market once but it was such a great experience! My young daughter enjoyed this very much, especially the curry samples.Japan Marketplace is an enormous store with almost anything you could possibly need to make Japanese food. They have nice take-away sushi options as well. The prices were reasonable and I will definitely return. Highly recommended!
Best Japanese market in Ohio. Besides fresh grocery, they sell tasty carry-out bento boxes for sushi, chirashi, rolls, donburi and Korean kimchi fried rice at reasonable price, and prepare party trays full of sushi and rolls. They also carry popular Japanese over-the-counter drugs such as Otha Isan, Cabbagin and Pabron S Cold.
Great store and friendly staff. Best place to go if youre cooking a Japanese dish and need that one ingredient you just cant seem to find elsewhere. The bakery is just the absolute best, and the restaurants are amazing. Best sushi available anywhere in Columbus, in my opinion.
Im so glad I found this complex. I never would have thought this existed in Ohio. Im used to Mitsuwa Marketplace in Chicago, which I dearly miss, but Tensuke has almost everything I want (even fresh vegetables and meats) for cooking Japanese meals. Its a very clean store as well, with good lighting and no unusual or offputting smells. They have a fantastic selection of sake as well, with a depth and variety that I havent seen anywhere else in this state. They also have delicious fresh bento boxes and sushi (though youll want to get there early for the best selection). And they put wasabi on their sushi! Most restaurants dont even do that anymore, but Tensuke provides an authentic sushi experience. Beyond the grocery store is a bakery, a gift shop, and three restaurants. The bakery has a lovely selection of Japanese confections, drinks, and baked goods. I suggest anything with Matcha, especially the soft serve. The gift store was much larger than I thought it would be and had a good variety of products including incense, anime paraphernalia, stationary, charms, books, Sanrio goods, and kitchen tools. Honestly, the only thing that could make me happier is if there were a Japanese bookstore like Kinokuniya in this complex.
My daughter and I get sushi here at least once a week. The quality is excellent, spectacular flavor and the price cannot be beat. They have a rather extensive selection of Asian foods for such a small space. The staff are all very friendly as well. By far the best sushi around.
My wife and I love this market. I lived in Japan twice in my life, for a total of 8 years. While its not my home, I sometimes feel something akin to homesickness and wish I could return. My weekly trip to Tensuke Market, and Tensuke Express for lunch, eases that longing a little bit. Its always a pleasure shopping here. The staff is, as is appropriate for Japanese culture, very courteous. The quality and variety of the products offered is outstanding. For those who enjoy sake, they have a very good selection from which to choose.
I have been shopping here for well over 20 years, they have expanded their store over the years and the selections for Japanese groceries are vast. Their fresh seafood is fresh, sashimi is always fresh and of very good quality that shines through. The staff there are all very friendly. Highly recommend this place.
If you are looking for incredible sushi at an amazing price, then make the drive to Tensuke Market! Not only is their sushi extremely high-grade, but its actually cheaper than the garbage rolls you would get at Giant Eagle, Kroger or Luckys. I just bought a Spicy Crunchy Salmon roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll today for less than $10. They had huge pieces of sushi-grade fish in them and were absolutely delicious.I havent had much dine-in sushi around Columbus, but I really cant imagine it being any better than here.
The sushi market inside is incredible. They have the freshest fish in Columbus by far. The salmon on the Rainbow roll was the softest I had ever experienced. Called ahead and it was ready when I got there. going back soon to try their cafe which serves authentic traditional Japanese dishes.
This place has a great selection of imported foods including macha powders and soy sauces. It also has fresh mad sushi trays....read the trays carefully because some rolls are spicy! There is also a great selection of fresh sashimi quality fish and tamago. The staff has always always been friendly.
This market is just like getting on a plane and transporting yourself half the world away! This is authentic as it gets, without the language or currency exchange issues. If you want sushi, otopus and squid this is it. You can also find Japanese food and liquors that you normally only find in country. I have been to Japan twice and find this place a lovely reminder of these travels. If you need a can of coffee, this is the only place to go.
Fresh meats and seafood products as well as interesting treats. I like to think this is my regular place of business for grocery shopping and my goal is to try to find something new each time I get in there. Staff is very pleasant. Prices are great for their quality (though sometimes I catch myself comparing to Wal-Mart, but thats more of a me thing). Also connected to a sushi bar and noodle shop which are quite possibly the best in town.
A great experience that doesn’t scale well. I try to avoid this place during traditional meal times as it can get very busy. That being said you should sample something from every area, Tensuke Express, Sushi Ten, the grocery store, J Avenue, Belles Bread and Akai Hana.
You will find everything you need to cook Japanese cuisine is here, and many other Asian cuisines for that matter. Abundant variety Asian snacks and candy too. The best part about this place is the prepared foods though - sushi, rolls, bento boxes, rice bowls, and more made daily. REALLY good food. High quality. Connected to the market is a sushi/poke bowl fast casual restaurant where you can get sushi made to order if you prefer. And there is a ramen and rice bowl place next to this. Come shopping and stock up on ingredients or premade meals, and stay for a meal next door. Thats how roll every time.
This market is so cool. They carry many snacks and dried items in the market and the sushi from the restaurant is great. My husband stops in frequently to get the ingredients for homemade Miso Soup. My younger brother is very interested by Japanese culture and he loved Tensuke Market.
This is really the one store, in the shopping center, as a customer where I can find little to zero flaws in the grocery store setup. Its always an exciting trip to be made, when the inventory is low on certain items. This grocery store is basically close to flawless. Thats about it.
This is one of my favorite places to shop and have a Sunday lunch. Not only is there a Japanese market but also a gift shop, steak house, sushi restaurant, Bells bakery/cafe, and noodle restaurant. On the other side of the shopping center is Kung Fu tea and a more traditional bakery. If you are so inclined theres a Martial arts class there too.
Tensuke Market is a great place to get some Asian food and cooking essentials. While primarily a Japanese market they also sell items from China and Korea. They have a good selection of sushi and bento if youd like to grab lunch to go. The area around it has grown over the years and theyll soon be opening Tensuke Express for quick hot meals.
My grandmother, her kids, grandkids and now great grandkids have been going here since this market has opened. I believe over 50 years. (When it used to be called seafood japan) love this market. More so now because my grandmother is no longer living and we dont get food shipped to us from Japan anymore. Everyone here is always helpful and very friendly.
This is a very nice place to get japanese sweets. i went here and found tons of goodies that are now my favorite. it was a clean place and very organized. service was excellent and the people were very nice. it had a somewhat wide variety of foods and drinks. the only thing is i was expecting a wider variety of pocky. otherwise, this place was very nice, i recommend it!
I have cooked, pretty much my entire life. In that time, Ive learned dishes from the world over; living on military bases kinda helped that along. I recently discovered a delight in Japanese dishes, and am ecstatic that this superb market is here, with traditional Japanese foods available. My most recent endeavor was Tonjiru soup, prepared with all the ingredients purchased at Tensuke. It was amazing! I look forward to many more cooking explorations, and spending much time perusing the shelves at this lovely market! Oh, and eating at the cafe, too!
The lighthouse of the oriental civilization of Columbus, Ohio. Where hosts the great Honda Motor Vehicle manufactory in North America with the lovely midsized Japanese community. Variety of selections from freshly made sushi, Sashimi(well sliced raw seafood dish) Bento box, Japanese ingredients, snacks, Sake(Japanese wine usually made from rice)and more delicates from the beautiful island. The staff here are well trained, and treat customers in a civilized manner, extremely polite Japanese style. They always put their own feet in the customer’s shoes, willing to help as the customer needed. I would rate them overall for 6 stars if I could.
Decent selection. Slightly overpriced. However, just know that once you pick up a hand basket, you officially become their employee; once you reach the checkout, if you dont unload your basket, theyll point to a sign that says you must unload your own basket before theyll ring you up. In the amount of time it took them to do that, they could have been--you know--helping you to unload the basket. Unless Im over on that side of town, Ill just go to the Korean store closer to me since they seem to understand that I have something they want (money) and in order to get that thing, theyll need to put themselves in a position to get it (i.e. check out my stuff). Its too bad that, for Tensukes employees (especially one particular bob-haired B), they dont seem to understand the basic economics of customer service.
If you need blue fin tuna by the pound or that only in Japan kids soda then this is the place for you.High quality fish from otoro to octopus they have it all and pretty much anything else you would need, including premade daily bento boxes. Just fun to wander around and see the unusual foodstuffs.
Tensuke Market has delicious to-go sushi, maki, and sashimi and the prices are inexpensive. The variety is nice but its capricious and fickle. Tensukes onigiri Salmon and other fillings are $1.75 and its pretty consistent with making them fresh everyday. What I really enjoy is the karaage filling and Tuna Mayo Onigiri but Tensuke doesnt always make it everyday. I asked a couple of employees if they would be willing to make more of the Tuna Mayo Onigiris and others but they declined. The employees said that the Tensuke Market Express Restaurant makes them and its dependent upon them and their whimsical inclinations on whether or not theyll make the Onigiris. So I asked a few of the Tensuke Express employees, and they said that they werent making it that day, and I asked why, and they said they just didnt feel like.In my opinion, Tensuke Market and its restaurant needs more competition in the area. Consumers like consistency and excellent service. The employees are polite but obviously because they dont have any competition, they can be capricious in their items of what they are offering to customers without concern that the customers will go elsewhere. I go to Ariang Korean Market for a lot of my Asian items, because the kimchee and side dishes are cheaper plus the purchase of rice is significantly cheaper at the Korean market than at Tensuke.
The staff here is super helpful, and all the products are very high quality. The produce here is very fresh but a bit pricey; if you take the time to look, you can get similar quality produce at CAM for much less, but Tensuke is my go to for learning what the different products are and knowing Im getting the best quality goods.
Definitely a welcome place in Columbus if not all of Ohio. This someplace different that refuses to do anything less than and satisfy whatever craving you maybe having for Japanese food. Those small it is not to be underestimated because what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in just charm and overall cleanliness and organization.
A small almost strip mall/shopping center style Japanese market with an array of shops and restaurants: Bakery, souvineer shop, supermarket, ramen bar and sushi restaurants to name a few. Having lived in Japan the produce and items sold seem to be the authentic Japanese experience, the food flavour pallets are all what to expect from a typical restaurant in Japan and the supermarket is representative of what is available in Japan. If youre either a gaijin returnee to the west or Japanese looking for a bit of home, you can probably find it here.
I was on vacation in Ohio and traveling from Cleveland area to Cincinnati. I had done some research before leaving and really wanted to stop by Tensuke, because I had recently started Bento-ing, and we dont have any Japanese shops by us. We stopped into the market, and I was so excited about the quality and variety. My favorite part was their selection of furikake rice seasoning, I bought several kinds and packed them in my suitcase. We went over to Tensuke Express afterwards for lunch. My boyfriend and I both got the combination which came with tempura shrimp, rice, and soba. Everything was perfect. The shrimp were fried perfectly, the rice soft and sticky, and the soba was umami! I am looking forward to another trip to Ohio, and will have to stop again!
I had a good experiences at Tensuke Market in a past but lately, store of the owner hireing inexperienced teen age American girl who even do not say hi or greet to the coustomers! I go to any Kroger or Meijer and they greet us therefore we used to be greeted in daily interaction with people. My recent encounter at Tensuke Market was very disappointed one, even I felt it was offense not to be greeted. I wish the store owner hire back original Japanese ladies who were so pleasant and had a good manner and had a sense of being appreciation of me being their coustomers just like the ones in Japan!!! Fire the rotton teenagers, I dont like to see those butt faces. Its not just look of her face but it appears to be there is something she keeps inside of her( maybe complaining the cheap wages or something) and I dont like the feel of it!!!!!
Wow what an amazing little market, staff are very friendly and willing to help you if you dont know what something is because some of it is listed in Japanese, they have a ton of authentic food including native sodas and a saki selection with a lot to choose from, they even have premade binto boxes and sushi to take home and eat and offer a service to cut any meat or fish you buy sashimi style...will definitely be back
Good place to buy Japanese products, but typically speaking only fresh product is available on Saturday mornings (as opposed to weekdays --- I have never gone on a Sunday though.) So, if you are going to go and are planning on buy any fresh product (non-frozen fish, et al) be sure to get there early on Saturday morning.

2020-09-27Its a blessing to have a store like this in town. Good atmosphere and right now they limit to 28 people in the store which you can shop in a comfortable atmosphere. Also, they have a take-out sushi bar which is from the store next door (sushi ten) and they taste superb + good price too. I really want to move to Columbus.

2021-04-02Lots of fresh vegetables, meat and seafood, a variety of frozen food, all the sauce and ingredients youll ever need to make Japanese food. They also have some Japanese kitchen tools and small kitchen appliances like rice cooker etc. Enormous amount of sushi and sashimi take out and premade bento food boxes, great price and quality (usually sold out by end of day so go early for more choices). Belles Japanese Bakery items also available here. There is a sushi place (Sushi Ten) and ramen restaurant (Tensuke Express) right next door, both great!

2022-03-21The older cashier is fabulous, hence 5 stars. The younger people are not so nice. But the older lady was full of information and ideas for the items I purchased. Other than that it is just a market.

2022-01-30Nice little shopping area. I hope they will continue to add stores and expand to be like Little Tokyo in L.A.Belle bakery is amazing, kung fu tea is always great. The small market is very convenient and they carry a decent amount of quality foods. The Japanese store around the corner is very cute, unfortunately, a lot of the merchandise is very overpriced. There is another bakery that is a great backup if you cant get Belles. The Pepperidge farm store (think thats it ) seems very out of place. There are 3 or 4 restaurants but I, unfortunately, havent tried any of them yet. All my visits are concentrated on getting into Belles before they run out of cake and buns 😊

2017-07-11Love the new interior! Bright, clean, fresh look and food is as delicious as ever. Not too greasy or heavy, but still flavorful and satisfying. A top among asian restaurants in Columbus and will go back again and again!

2018-10-24A hidden gem in the middle of Columbus. The tensuke market is affordable and because its not too big, its not overwhelming. I love that you can buy a bento box from the market and eat at the adjacent restaurant sushi ten.Theres a gift store and a bakery place too.
